RESUMEN

The aim of the investigation is to study structural alterations of autologous omental adipose tissue in a silicon conduit and to evaluate its possible use for regeneration of the sciatic nerve in diastasis. Materials and Methods: Mature outbred male Wistar rats have been used in the study. The animals were divided into 7 experimental groups with complete transection of the sciatic nerve on the right side at the mid-third level of the thigh. The ends of the transected nerve were pulled apart, inserted into a silicon conduit, and secured to the epineurium. The conduit of group 1 (control) was filled with a saline solution; in group 2, it was filled with an autologous omental adipose tissue with saline solution. Intravital labeling of the omental adipose tissue with the lipophilic PKH 26 dye (in group 3) was used for the first time to find out whether the omental cells were involved in formation of the regenerating nerve. Diastasis in groups 1-3 was 5 mm, the postoperative period was 14 weeks. The dynamics of the omental adipose tissue changes in groups 4-7 was assessed by placing the omental tissues into the conduit covering 2 mm of diastasis. The postoperative period was 4, 14, 21, and 42 weeks. Results: In group 2 (omental adipose tissue + saline), the clinical condition of the damaged limb after 14 weeks may be evaluated as satisfactory and approximating to the intact parameters as compared to group 1 where the conduit was filled with a saline solution only. The sum of large and medium-sized nerve fibers in group 2 was 2.7 times greater than that in group 2. The milled omental adipose tissue inside the conduit changed its volume and structure in nerve diastasis and was constantly utilized up to complete elimination over time. The omental cells integrated into the newly formed nerve in the graft area. Conclusion: As a graft, the adipose tissue of the autologous omentum produces a stimulating effect on the post-traumatic regeneration of the sciatic nerve.

RESUMEN

The number and specification of radionuclide examinations, administrated activity and effective doses were collected during 2011-13 for 4944 paediatric patients from 10 nuclear medicine (NM) departments of some Russian regions. The kidney examinations account for about 70 % of paediatric NM examinations in general hospitals. Diagnostics of all other organs contribute from 2 to 8 % each in the total number of paediatric examinations. Administrated activities of radiopharmaceuticals are approximately proportional to the child's age, and variations between different hospitals usually are within the factor of 3-4 and for some types of examination up to 10. The range of the effective dose due to paediatric NM examinations is roughly estimated as 2-6 mSv per examination, approximately the same as in adults. Some examinations (heart, thyroid, whole body) result in doses of younger children that are 2-3 times higher than the doses of adults. Effective doses in paediatric positron emission tomography (PET) diagnostics are in the range of 4-10 mSv per examination and are higher compared with the dose of adult patients. The application of combined radiodiagnostic technologies (single photon emission computer tomography with roentghen computer tomography [SPECT/CT] or PET with roetghen computer tomography [PET/CT]) increases the effective dose of patients by the factor of 1.5-2 for the skeleton or whole body examinations.

RESUMEN

With the use of histological, morphometric and statistical methods there was shown a gonadotropic effect of chromium, benzene and also their mixtures in male mice (CBA x C57Bl6) F1. The established structural changes in the testes of exposed animals showed the suppression of their germinative and endocrine functions. The response of Leydig cells in the chromium group expresses a development of the compensatory process in the relation with the destruction of seminiferous epithelium.

RESUMEN

Morphological features of the thymus, spleen and lymph nodes on the 45th--and 90th day of oral exposure to benzene, potassium dichromate and their mixtures were studied in 40 Wistar rats. A strong trend to a decrease in the activity of T lymphocytes has been established. Apoptotic thymocytes and lymphocytes in the T-dependent areas of spleen and lymph nodes have been revealed.

RESUMEN

In the framework of density functional theory the equilibrium geometry of the ground electronic state of monoamine tetraphenylporphyrin with the complexon of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid was found using B3LYP functional and 6-31G(d,p) basis set. Electronic absorption spectrum of this molecule in ethanol solution was measured in the range of 300-600nm and interpreted using the PCM/TDDFT method (with the B3LYP, CAMB3LYP, M06-2X functionals) with 6-31G(d,p) and 6-31++G(d,p) basis sets. The observed and calculated line positions and intensities are well agreed.

RESUMEN

The impact of long-term intake of drinking water containing the high level of chromium and benzene or their mixture on navigation learning and long-term spatial memory was studied in a Morris water maze. The chronic neurotoxic effect of benzene was characterized by worse long-term memory, which upon its exposure in combination with chromium remained unchanged and failed to block the realization of a positive effect of chromium on the mechanism of navigation learning.

RESUMEN

The effects of potassium bichromate, benzene, and their mixture on cell immunological parameters and the blood content of trace elements were studied in Wistar rats. Oral administration of benzene, potassium bichromate, and their mixture to Wistar rats was found to result in reductions in cell immunological parameters (the count of leukocytes, thymocytes, splenocytes, myelokaryocytes, the level of phagocytic indices) and the levels of copper, iron, nickel, and, on the contrary, increases in the concentrations of zinc and chromium in blood.

RESUMEN

The association of a ratio of blood porphyrin fraction concentrations in pregnant women with hyperandrogenism (HA) with the osmoresistance of red blood cells and the microviscosity of their membranes was studied. A cohort examination was made in parallel groups of 64 pregnant women aged 20 to 30 years at 28-36 weeks gestation. The levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and testosterone were measured. External cardiotocography, ultrasonography, and Doppler study were conducted. The blood concentrations of endogenous protoporphyrin (PP) and coproporphyrin (CP) were estimated by the spectral fluorescence technique. Erythrocytic membrane microviscosity was determined from the degree of pyrene eximeration, by measuring the fluorescence spectra; erythrocytic osmoresistance was ascertained by the procedure developed by N. L. Vasilevskaya. The pregnant women with placental insufficiency in the presence of HA were found to have an altered ratio of the concentrations of erythrocytic porphyrin fractions, which enhanced the microviscosity and resistance of red blood cell membranes, causing worse microcirculation. There was an inverse correlation between the level of DHEAS and the ratio of the concentrations of endogenous PP to CP. It is concluded that the development of placental insufficiency in pregnant women with HA is attended by the decreased ratio of PP to CP along with the higher microviscous characteristics of erythrocytic membranes and the lower amplitude of their osmoresistance, by increasing the lower osmoresistance range.

RESUMEN

Dosimetric data obtained experimentally and needed in calculating the efficient irradiation doses applicable to patients in film mammography are elucidated in the paper. The values of individual effective doses are defined with respect to the sizes of the mammary gland, regimes of X-ray examinations and sensitivity of the "screen-film" system. Recommendations are provided for choosing the optimal regimes ensuring high-quality images and for minimal dose loads of patients' irradiation.
