BACKGROUND: Highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) has been able to improve the immune system function and survival of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients. However, Patients coinfected with HIV and hepatitis B virus (HBV) are more likely to develop end-stage liver disease (ESLD) than those infected with HBV alone. Consequently, liver transplantation is often required for these patients. This study evaluates the outcomes of orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) of HIV-HBV coinfected patients in China. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective analysis on all HIV-HBV coinfected patients that underwent OLT from April 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 and their outcomes were compared to all HBV monoinfected patients undergoing OLT during the same period. Patient outcomes were determined, including cumulative survival, viral load, CD4 T-cell count and postoperative complications. RESULTS: The median follow-up of HIV recipients was 36 months after OLT (interquartile range 12-39 months). Almost all patients had stable CD4 T-cell count (> 200 copies/ul), undetectable HBV DNA levels, and undetectable HIV RNA load during follow-up. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year posttransplant survival rates were 85.7% for the HIV group (unchanged from 1 to 3 years) versus 82.2%, 81.2%, and 78.8% for the non-HIV group. Cumulative survival among HIV-HBV coinfected recipients was not significantly different from the HBV monoinfected recipients (log-rank test P = 0.692). The percentage of deaths attributed to infection was comparable between the HIV and non-HIV groups (14.3% vs. 9.32%, P = 0.665). Post OLT, there was no significant difference in acute rejection, cytomegalovirus infection, bacteremia, pulmonary infection, acute kidney injury, de novo tumor and vascular and biliary complications. CONCLUSIONS: Liver transplantation in patients with HIV-HBV coinfection yields excellent outcomes in terms of intermediate- or long-term survival rate and low incidence of postoperative complications in China. These findings suggest that OLT is safe and feasible for HIV-HBV coinfected patients with ESLD. TRIAL REGISTRATION: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2300067631), registered 11 January 2023.

BACKGROUND: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients coinfected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) are eligible for liver transplantation (LT) in Africa and Southeast Asia, particularly China. However, the outcome of HIV-HBV coinfected patients referred for ABO-incompatible LT (ABOi-LT) is unknown. AIM: To clarify the outcome of ABOi-LT for HIV-HBV coinfected patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD). METHODS: We report on two Chinese HIV-HBV coinfected patients with ESLD who underwent A to O brain-dead donor LT and reviewed the literature on HIV-HBV coinfected patients treated with ABO-compatible LT. The pretransplantation HIV viral load was undetectable, with no active opportunistic infections. Induction therapy consisted of two sessions of plasmapheresis and a single dose of rituximab in two split doses, followed by an intraoperative regimen of intravenous immunoglobulin, methylprednisolone, and basiliximab. Post-transplant maintenance immunosuppressive agents consisted of tacrolimus and mycophenolate mofetil, and prednisone. RESULTS: At the intermediate-term follow-up, patients showed undetectable HIV viral load, CD4(+) T cell counts greater than 150 cells/µL, no HBV recurrence, and stable liver function. A liver allograft biopsy showed no evidence of acute cellular rejection. Both patients survived at 36-42 mo of follow-up. CONCLUSION: This is the first report of ABOi-LT in HIV-HBV recipients with good intermediate-term outcomes, suggesting that ABOi-LT may be feasible and safe for HIV-HBV coinfected patients with ESLD.

BACKGROUND: Thrombectomy and anatomical anastomosis (TAA) has long been considered the optimal approach to portal vein thrombosis (PVT) in liver transplantation (LT). However, TAA and the current approach for non-physiological portal reconstructions are associated with a higher rate of complications and mortality in some cases. AIM: To describe a new choice for reconstructing the portal vein through a posterior pancreatic tunnel (RPVPPT) to address cases of unresectable PVT. METHODS: Between August 2019 and August 2021, 245 adult LTs were performed. Forty-five (18.4%) patients were confirmed to have PVT before surgery, among which seven underwent PV reconstruction via the RPVPPT approach. We retrospectively analyzed the surgical procedure and postoperative complications of these seven recipients that underwent PV reconstruction due to PVT. RESULTS: During the procedure, PVT was found in all the seven cases with significant adhesion to the vascular wall and could not be dissected. The portal vein proximal to the superior mesenteric vein was damaged in one case when attempting thrombolectomy, resulting in massive bleeding. LT was successfully performed in all patients with a mean duration of 585 min (range 491-756 min) and mean intraoperative blood loss of 800 mL (range 500-3000 mL). Postoperative complications consisted of chylous leakage (n = 3), insufficient portal venous flow to the graft (n = 1), intra-abdominal hemorrhage (n = 1), pulmonary infection (n = 1), and perioperative death (n = 1). The remaining six patients survived at 12-17 mo follow-up. CONCLUSION: The RPVPPT technique might be a safe and effective surgical procedure during LT for complex PVT. However, follow-up studies with large samples are still warranted due to the relatively small number of cases.

BACKGROUND: Split liver transplantation (SLT) is a complex procedure. The left-lateral and right tri-segment splits are the most common surgical approaches and are based on the Couinaud liver segmentation theory. Notably, the liver surface following right tri-segment splits may exhibit different degrees of ischemic changes related to the destruction of the local portal vein blood flow topology. There is currently no consensus on preoperative evaluation and predictive strategy for hepatic segmental necrosis after SLT. AIM: To investigate the application of the topological approach in liver segmentation based on 3D visualization technology in the surgical planning of SLT. METHODS: Clinical data of 10 recipients and 5 donors who underwent SLT at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital from January 2020 to January 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Before surgery, all the donors were subjected to 3D modeling and evaluation. Based on the 3D-reconstructed models, the liver splitting procedure was simulated using the liver segmentation system described by Couinaud and a blood flow topology liver segmentation (BFTLS) method. In addition, the volume of the liver was also quantified. Statistical indexes mainly included the hepatic vasculature and expected volume of split grafts evaluated by 3D models, the actual liver volume, and the ischemia state of the hepatic segments during the actual surgery. RESULTS: Among the 5 cases of split liver surgery, the liver was split into a left-lateral segment and right tri-segment in 4 cases, while 1 case was split using the left and right half liver splitting. All operations were successfully implemented according to the preoperative plan. According to Couinaud liver segmentation system and BFTLS methods, the volume of the left lateral segment was 359.00 ± 101.57 mL and 367.75 ± 99.73 mL, respectively, while that measured during the actual surgery was 397.50 ± 37.97 mL. The volume of segment IV (the portion of ischemic liver lobes) allocated to the right tri-segment was 136.31 ± 86.10 mL, as determined using the topological approach to liver segmentation. However, during the actual surgical intervention, ischemia of the right tri-segment section was observed in 4 cases, including 1 case of necrosis and bile leakage, with an ischemic liver volume of 238.7 mL. CONCLUSION: 3D visualization technology can guide the preoperative planning of SLT and improve accuracy during the intervention. The simulated operation based on 3D visualization of blood flow topology may be useful to predict the degree of ischemia in the liver segment and provide a reference for determining whether the ischemic liver tissue should be removed during the surgery.

Orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT), as one of the curative methods for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), has brought hope to patients with HCC. However, treatment options for HCC recurrence and metastasis after liver transplantation are limited. Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI), such as programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitor, have been successfully used in advanced or metastatic HCC, but the data on the safety of PD-1 inhibitor after liver transplantation is limited. In this article, we report a 47-year-old patient with acute-on-chronic liver failure and multiple HCC who was successfully treated with liver transplantation. On the 45th day after OLT, the patient's alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and lens culinaris agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP (AFP-L3) were increased, and imaging examination showed no residual tumor. The patient had high risk factors for tumor recurrence before operation, so the possibility of tumor recurrence was considered. When the tumor markers showed an upward trend, we immediately treated the patient with lenvatinib 8 mg, after half a month, the AFP and AFP-L3 continued to increase compared with before. Then we used low-dose nivolumab 40mg, the patient's AFP and AFP-L3 gradually decreased. One month later, a second low-dose nivolumab 40mg was given, and the patient's tumor markers gradually decreased to normal. No acute rejection and other complications occurred during the treatment. So far, we have followed up this patient for 2 years, and no tumor recurrence was observed. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case using a low dose of nivolumab in combination with lenvatinib to prevent recurrence of HCC after liver transplantation.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are non-coding RNAs with covalently closed structures that modulate the progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we explored whether circ_0008043 regulated the biological function of HCC cells. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) was used to detect circ_0008043, microRNA (miR)-326, and RAB21 levels. Expression of E-cadherin, N-cadherin, and vimentin was assessed using qPCR. Cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were evaluated using 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, colony formation, and transwell assays. Xenograft tumors were used to evaluate cell growth in vivo. The interaction between miR-326 and circ_0008043 or RAB21 was assessed using dual-luciferase reporter analysis and RNA pull-down analysis. The data illustrated that circ_0008043 and RAB21 were highly expressed, while miR-326 was expressed at less levels in HCC tissues and cells. Interfering with circ_0008043 suppressed cellular proliferation, migration, invasion, and cell growth. Circ_0008043 was confirmed to be an miR-326 sponge that targets RAB21. Rescue experiments showed that inhibiting miR-326 abrogated the effect induced by knockdown of circ_0008043, and overexpressed RAB21 abolished the effect induced by miR-326 overexpression. In summary, silencing of circ_0008043 impeded HCC progression by regulating the miR-326/RAB21 axis. These data suggest that circ_0008043 may have clinical value in the treatment of HCC.

Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitor as an attractive drug target with promising antitumor effects has been widely investigated. High quality clinical trial has been conducted in liver transplant (LT) recipients in Western countries. However, the pertinent studies in Eastern world are paucity. Therefore, we designed a clinical trial to test whether sirolimus can improve recurrence-free survival (RFS) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients beyond the Milan criteria after LT. This is an open-labeled, single-arm, prospective, multicenter, and real-world study aiming to evaluate the clinical outcomes of early switch to sirolimus-based regimens in HCC patients after LT. Patients with a histologically proven HCC and beyond the Milan criteria will be enrolled. The initial immunosuppressant regimens are center-specific for the first 4-6 weeks. The following regimens integrated sirolimus into the regimens as a combination therapy with reduced calcineurin inhibitors based on the condition of patients and centers. The study is planned for 4 years in total with a 2-year enrollment period and a 2-year follow-up. We predict that sirolimus conversion regimen will provide survival benefits for patients particular in the key indicator RFS as well as better quality of life. If the trial is conducted successfully, we will have a continued monitoring over a longer follow-up time to estimate indicator of overall survival. We hope that the outcome will provide better evidence for clinical decision-making and revising treatment guidelines based on Chinese population data. INTRODUCTION: Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) is implicated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but whether transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß)-metastasis associated 1 (MTA1)-SMAD7-SMAD3-SRY-Box Transcription Factor 4 (SOX4)-EZH2 signaling axis, in which EZH2 participates, is also involved in HCC remained unknown. METHODS: Data on EZH2 expression in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) and its relation with prognosis of HCC patients were predicted and analyzed using online databases. Following transfection with or without TGF-ß1, HCC cell viability, migration and invasion were determined with MTT, Scratch and Transwell assays. Relative expressions of epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related factors (N-Cadherin, Vimentin, and E-Cadherin) and TGF-ß-MTA1-SMAD7-SMAD3-SOX4-EZH2 signaling axis factors (TGF-ß, MTA1, SMAD7, phosphorylated-SMAD3, SOX4 and EZH2) were calculated via reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and Western blot. RESULTS: EZH2 was upregulated in HCC, which was related to poor prognosis. Silencing EZH2 suppressed EZH2 expression and HCC cell viability, migration, and invasion, and increased E-Cadherin expression yet decreased N-Cadherin and Vimentin expression, whereas EZH2 overexpression did conversely. Also, silencing EZH2 reversed the effects of TGF-ß1 on promoting viability, migration, and invasion, as well as N-Cadherin and Vimentin expressions, yet suppressing E-Cadherin expression in HCC cells. In addition, TGF-ß1 promoted TGF-ß, MTA1, SOX4 and EZH2 expressions and p-SMAD3/SMAD3 ratio yet suppressed SMAD7, whereas silencing EZH2 solely reversed the effects of TGF-ß1 on EZH2 expression in HCC cells. CONCLUSION: The present study provides a theoretical basis for TGF-ß-MTA1-SMAD7-SMAD3-SOX4-EZH2 signaling cascade in viability, migration, invasion, and EMT of HCC cells. Inhibiting these signals may represent a therapeutic pathway for the treatment of metastatic HCC.

BACKGROUND: Regulatory B cells are a newly discovered B cell subset that suppresses immune responses. Recent studies found that both anti-CD45RB and anti-Tim-1 treatments regulate immune responses by inducing regulatory B cells; however, the role of these cells in renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is unknown. METHODS: Using mouse models, including T cell-deficient (RAG1 knockout and TCRα knockout) mice and B cell-deficient (µMT) mice, we investigated the effects of regulatory B cells and anti-CD45RB on IRI and the mechanisms underlying these effects. RESULTS: Adoptive transfer of regulatory B cells before or after IRI attenuated renal IRI. Anti-CD45RB treatment with or without anti-Tim-1 before IRI increased renal infiltration of CD19+Tim-1+ regulatory B and regulatory T cells. Anti-CD45RB decreased serum creatinine levels, pathologic injury score, tubular apoptosis, and proinflammatory cytokines levels, whereas IL-10 levels increased. Following IRI, anti-CD45RB with or without anti-Tim-1 also induced regulatory B cells, improving renal function and tubular regeneration. In RAG1 knockout mice with B cell transfer, TCRα knockout mice, and wild-type mice with T cell depletion, anti-CD45RB increased regulatory B cells and attenuated IRI. However, anti-CD45RB did not attenuate IRI in RAG1 knockout mice with T cell transfer or µMT mice and induced only mild improvement in wild-type mice with B cell depletion. Furthermore, B cell-deficient mice receiving B cells from IL-10 knockout mice (but not from wild-type mice) did not show renal protection against IRI when treated with anti-CD45RB. CONCLUSIONS: Anti-CD45RB treatment attenuated acute renal injury and facilitated renal recovery after IRI through induction of IL-10+ regulatory B cells, pointing to anti-CD45RB as a potential therapeutic strategy in renal IRI.

Human B-1 cells have been proposed to be CD20+CD27+CD43+CD1c- B cells found in the umbilical cord and adult peripheral blood, but their regulatory mechanisms have not been well elucidated. Previously, we reported that mouse CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells could enhance the secretion of natural antibodies by B-1 cells. In this study, we aimed to investigate the presence and helper functions of the human equivalents of murine CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells. Here, we showed that human CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells found in the peritoneal cavity (PEC), spleen, and peripheral blood can enhance the production of IgM antibodies by B-1 cells. As revealed in mouse, CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells were more abundant in the PEC and showed a higher tendency to form conjugates with B cells than CD49dlow CD4+ T cells. Moreover, CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells showed a Th1-like memory phenotype, characterized by high expression of CD44 and CXCR3; low expression of CD62L and CCR7; rapid production of IFN-γ, tumor necrosis factor-α, and IL-2 upon stimulation with phorbol myristate acetate and ionomycin; and rapid proliferation upon stimulation with anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 antibodies. These cells also expressed high levels of PD-1, ICOS, and CD5, suggesting that they are undergoing chronic stimulation. Remarkably, CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells specifically helped B-1 cells, but not follicular memory B cells (CD27+ CD43-CD1c-) or marginal zone B cells (CD27+CD43-CD1c+), produce IgM and IgG antibodies. In parallel, the titer of human anti-blood group A IgM was positively correlated with the frequency of CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells. In conclusion, we identified human CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells with a Th1-like memory phenotype that secrete Th1 proinflammatory cytokines and help B-1 cells secrete antibodies, thereby aiding in primary defense. We suggest that these CD49dhigh CD4+ T cells are a unique type of B-cell helper T cells distinct from follicular helper T cells.

BACKGROUND: Macrophages play important roles in xenograft rejection. Here, we investigated whether overexpression of human CD200 or CD47 in porcine endothelial cells (PEC) can suppress macrophages activation in xenogeneic immune responses. METHODS: PECs and human macrophages were incubated together, harvested, and analyzed for in vitro macrophage phagocytic and cytotoxicity activity, and cytokine release. Next, PECs were injected into renal subcapsular space of humanized mice. On day 10 posttransplantation, we analyzed xenograft survival and perigraft inflammatory cell infiltrations in PEC-to-humanized mouse transplantation. RESULTS: PECs highly expressing human CD200, CD47, or both CD47/CD200 were established by lentiviral vector transduction. Both CD200 and CD47 suppressed in vitro macrophage phagocytic and cytotoxic activity against PECs; decreased TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 secretion; and increased IL-10 secretion. However, simultaneous overexpression of CD200 and CD47 did not show additive effects. Next, PECs were transplanted into NOD-scid IL-2Rg null mice, and human monocytes and lymphocytes were adoptively transferred 1 day after xenotransplantation. PEC xenograft cell death and apoptosis were decreased in the CD200-PEC and CD47/CD200-PEC groups. Perigraft infiltration of human T cells was suppressed by CD47; CD200 suppressed infiltration of human macrophages to a greater extent than CD47; and the CD47/CD200-PEC group exhibited the lowest level of leukocyte infiltration. In summary, overexpression of CD200 in PECs suppressed xenogeneic activation of human macrophages and improved survival of PEC xenografts in humanized mice; however, coexpression of CD200 and CD47 did not show additive effects. CONCLUSIONS: Therefore, overexpression of human CD200 in donor pigs could constitute a promising strategy for overcoming xenograft rejection.

BACKGROUND: Studies on B-cell subtypes and V(D)J gene usage of B-cell receptors in kidney transplants are scarce. This study aimed to investigate V(D)J gene segment usage in ABO-incompatible (ABOi) kidney transplant (KT) patients compared to that in ABO-compatible (ABOc) KT patients. METHODS: We selected 16 ABOi KT patients with accommodation (ABOiA), 6 ABOc stable KT patients (ABOcS), and 6 ABOi KT patients with biopsy-proven acute antibody-mediated rejection (ABOiR) at day 10, whose graft tissue samples had been stored in the biorepository between 2010 and 2014. Complete transcriptomes of graft tissues were sequenced and analyzed through RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The international ImMunoGeneTics information system (IMGT®) was used for in-depth comparison of V(D)J gene segment usage. RESULTS: The mean age of the 28 KT recipients was 43.3 ± 12.8 years, and 53.6% were male. By family, IGHV3, IGHJ4, IGLV2, and IGLJ3 gene segments were most frequently used in all groups, and their usage was not statistically different among the three patient groups. While IGKV3 was most frequently used in both the ABOiA and ABOiR groups, IGKV1 was most commonly used in the ABOcS group. In addition, while IGKJ1 was most commonly used in the ABOiA and ABOcS groups, IGKJ4 was most frequently used in the ABOiR group. According to individual gene segments, IGHV4-34 and IGHV4-30-2 were more commonly used in the ABOiR group than in the ABOiA group, and IGHV6-1 was more commonly used in the ABOcS group than in the ABOiR group. IGLV7-43 was more commonly used in the ABOcS group than in the ABOi group. However, technical variability, small sample size, and potential confounding effects of Rituximab or HLA mismatching are limitations of our study. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest that RNA-seq transcriptomic analyses can provide information on the V(D)J gene usage of B-cell receptors and the mechanisms of accommodation and immune reaction in ABOi KT.

RESUMEN

Staged hepatectomy, particularly associating liver partition and portal vein ligation for staged hepatectomy (ALPPS) is a recently developed advanced surgery for resecting liver tumors. However, large wound surfaces, incomplete drainage and high rates of mortality are vital limitations of ALPPS. The present case study describes a patient with liver cancer who underwent ALPPS surgery combined with negative pressure wound therapy. A 46-year-old male patient was hospitalized due to right upper abdominal pain. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography scan results indicated gallbladder cancer, accompanied by multiple liver metastases. Resection of the right trisegment and partial resection of metastatic nodules in the left outer lobe were performed. Vacuum sealing drainage was pre-implanted at liver cross-sections with drainage tubes to drain the bile. The patient exhibited improved wound healing compared with conventional ALPPS.

Fragile X-related gene 1 (FXR1) is deregulated in a variety of human disorders including cancer. However, there is relatively little evidence concerning the relationship between FXR1 and colorectal cancer. Western blot, immunohistochemistry (IHC), and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) were adopted to detect the FXR1 protein and messenger RNA (mRNA) expression, respectively. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to evaluate the plasma FXR1 expression in our study. MTT assay and colony formation assay were used to examine the proliferation ability of cells in vitro. In addition, Transwell assays were performed to test the migration and invasion abilities of cancer cells. We found that the average plasma FXR1 level in CRC was significantly higher than that in healthy controls (P < 0.001). Moreover, the plasma expression of FXR1 in stage IV patients was dramatically higher than that in stage I, stage II, and stage III patients (P < 0.001). Consistently, FXR1 mRNA expression levels were much higher in cancer tissues than that in normal tissues. Moreover, IHC results showed that cancer tissues possessed higher FXR1 expression (P = 0.027). What's more, plasma FXR1 was a risk factor of colorectal cancer indicated by univariate survival analysis (P = 0.021, HR = 1.685, 95 % CI 1.336-1.927). Multivariate analysis suggested that FXR1 was an independent risk factor of colorectal cancer (P = 0.008, HR = 1.381, 95 % CI 1.119-1.741). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed that the patients with higher plasma FXR1 expression had a poorer outcome (P < 0.001). Besides, FXR1 acted as an oncogene which could increase the proliferation, migration, and invasion of cancer cells. All these data indicate that FXR1 might act as a tumor promoter. Future investigations are warranted to explore whether FXR1 may represent a novel therapeutic target.

Sorafenib is the standard first-line therapeutic treatment for patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its use is hampered by the development of drug resistance. The activation of Akt by sorafenib is thought to be responsible for this resistance. Bufalin is the major active ingredient of the traditional Chinese medicine Chan su, which inhibits Akt activation; therefore, Chan su is currently used in the clinic to treat cancer. The present study aimed to investigate the ability of bufalin to reverse both inherent and acquired resistance to sorafenib. Bufalin synergized with sorafenib to inhibit tumor cell proliferation and induce apoptosis. This effect was at least partially due to the ability of bufalin to inhibit Akt activation by sorafenib. Moreover, the ability of bufalin to inactivate Akt depended on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress mediated by inositol-requiring enzyme 1 (IRE1). Silencing IRE1 with siRNA blocked the bufalin-induced Akt inactivation, but silencing eukaryotic initiation factor 2 (eIF2) or C/EBP-homologous protein (CHOP) did not have the same effect. Additionally, silencing Akt did not influence IRE1, CHOP or phosphorylated eIF2α expression. Two sorafenib-resistant HCC cell lines, which were established from human HCC HepG2 and Huh7 cells, were refractory to sorafenib-induced growth inhibition but were sensitive to bufalin. Thus, Bufalin reversed acquired resistance to sorafenib by downregulating phosphorylated Akt in an ER-stress-dependent manner via the IRE1 pathway. These findings warrant further studies to examine the utility of bufalin alone or in combination with sorafenib as a first- or second-line treatment after sorafenib failure for advanced HCC.

RESUMEN

Total laparoscopic abdominal aortic aneurysm resection with tube graft interposition was performed in a 53-year-old woman diagnosed with an infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm. The operation was accomplished by a method using three trocars. The operation took 240 minutes. Blood loss was 600 mL. No complications occurred in 13 months of postoperative follow-up. These results show that total laparoscopic abdominal aortic aneurysm repair with three trocars is feasible and worthwhile.
