RESUMEN

Background and aims: Substance use among adolescents is one of the most challenging behavioral disorders with direct consequences. It is of the essence (that) the prevalence of substance use is investigated among Iranian male adolescents. Methods: The present study is a systematic review and meta-analysis. All published articles titled "prevalence of substance use among Iranian adolescents" authored in Persian and English from 2004 to 2020 on Pub Med, Scopus, SID, and Google Scholar, a top list of academic research databases, were reviewed. Thirty-three out of 805 articles, hinge on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, were eligible. Statistical analysis carried out in STATA 14.0.Q index, I2 index, and χ 2 test were applied. Results: Overall prevalence reported with (95% confidence interval) for substance use 7% (4%-11%), methamphetamine 4% (3%-6%), tobacco 10% (3%-19%), and any addictive substances 4% (2%-7%) among male adolescents respectively. Besides, overall prevalence of alcohol consumption reported 10% (8%-11%). Conclusion: The prevalence of substance use among male adolescents is high, so it is indispensable for researchers to pay special attention to this issue.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is the most prevalent medical complication in pregnancy. Early diagnosis of GDM can influence maternal/neonatal outcomes. To assess the association between platelet and blood inflammatory indices and the risk of GDM occurrence using the complete blood count (CBC) test. We also aimed to determine the sensitivity of each parameter for an early screening of this disorder during pregnancy. METHODS: This case-control study included 2 groups of 110 pregnant women with and without GDM. The women in each group were compared after the routine screening for GDM and after the CBC test at 24-28 weeks' gestation after being matched according to the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 16 and Medcalc version 14.8.1 software. RESULTS: There were statistically significant intergroup differences in white blood cell (WBC) count, platelet count, mean platelet volume (MPV), plateletcrit (PCT), MPV to platelet ratio, platelet to lymphocyte ratio, and Rh values. The values of lymphocyte count, neutrophil count, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and blood group were not significantly different between groups. The logistic regression analysis showed the predictive values of WBC, platelet, MPV, and PCT in GDM. According to the receiver operating characteristic curve for all 3 variables, the level below the PCT chart was more than that of the others. CONCLUSION: Increasing platelet and inflammatory indices on the CBC test in the second trimester of pregnancy seemed to be associated with the probability of GDM occurrence.

RESUMEN

Due to the morbidity and mortality of mothers and fetuses developed by preeclampsia, preventive approaches have always been taken into account in high risk individuals. Systematic review studies contribute to make a better decision about the results of such studies. Accordingly, this study strived to systematically study the factors effective in the prevention of preeclampsia. The MEDLINE, ISI Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Proquest databases were systematically reviewed between January 2000 and May 2019. The quality of the studies was analyzed using the CONSORT checklist. A study was conducted on 29 quality interventional studies; 28 of which were RCT type, and on various factors such as anticoagulants (heparin, enoxaparin, Dalteparin and Nadroparin), aspirin, paravastatin, nitric oxide, yoga, micronutrients Such as l-Arginine, Folic Acid, Vitamin E and C, Phytonutrient, Lycopene and Vitamin D alone or in combination with Calcium. The results of this study showed that low molecular weight heparin, enoxaparin, PETN, yoga, L arginine, folic acid, vitamin D prevented preeclampsia alone or combined with calcium.
