Nowadays, the increasing electromagnetic waves generated by wearable devices are becoming an emerging issue for human health, so stretchable electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials are highly demanded. Elephant trunks are capable of grabbing fragile vegetation and tearing trees thanks not only to their muscles but also to their folded skins. Inspired by the wrinkled skin of the elephant trunks, herein, we propose a winkled conductive film based on single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) for multifunctional EMI applications. The conductive film has a sandwich structure, which was prepared by coating SWCNTs on both sides of the stretched elastic latex cylindrical substrate. The shrinking-induced winkled conductive network could withstand up to 200% tensile strain. Typically, when the stretching direction is parallel to the polarization direction of the electric field, the total EMI shielding effectiveness could surprisingly increase from 38.4 to 52.7 dB at 200% tensile strain. It is mainly contributed by the increased connection of the SWCNTs. In addition, the film also has good Joule heating performance at several voltages, capable of releasing pains in injured joints. This unique property makes it possible for strain-adjustable multifunctional EMI shielding and wearable thermotherapy applications.

RESUMEN

Sarcoma is a complex and heterogeneous cancer that has been difficult to study in vitro. While two-dimensional (2D) cell cultures and mouse models have been the dominant research tools, three-dimensional (3D) culture systems such as organoids have emerged as promising alternatives. In this review, we discuss recent developments in sarcoma organoid culture, with a focus on their potential as tools for drug screening and biobanking. We also highlight the ways in which sarcoma organoids have been used to investigate the mechanisms of gene regulation, drug resistance, metastasis, and immune interactions. Sarcoma organoids have shown to retain characteristics of in vivo biology within an in vitro system, making them a more representative model for sarcoma research. Our review suggests that sarcoma organoids offer a potential path forward for translational research in this field and may provide a platform for developing personalized therapies for sarcoma patients.

BACKGROUND: Solely relying on the tibial ankle surface (TAS) angle for determining the mechanical ankle axis might be insufficient. We introduce a novel method to determine the distance from the center of the talus to the tibial axis (TTD). This study aimed to investigate the association between clinical outcomes and radiological changes before and after supramalleolar osteotomy (SMO), including TAS angle, talar tilt (TT) angle, tibiotalar surface (TTS) angle and TTD. METHODS: Seventy patients who received SMO were enrolled. Radiological changes were measured using weight-bearing anteroposterior imaging. The percentage of talar center displacement (TTDP) was calculated as the difference between postoperative and preoperative TTD, divided by talar width (TW). Clinical assessments were performed using the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society ankle-hindfoot (AOFAS) scale. Differences in the aforementioned indicators before and after the operation were analyzed. We defined ΔAOFAS, ΔTAS, ΔTT and ΔTTS as the difference between postoperative and preoperative values. RESULTS: ΔTTS correlated with ΔAOFAS (r = 0.40, p = 0.008), as did TTDP (r = 0.32, p = 0.035). No correlation was observed between ΔAOFAS and ΔTAS. In the comparison between groups, patients with a TTDP greater than 26.19 exhibited a significantly greater ΔAOFAS. The high intraclass correlation coefficient indicated good reliability of the novel method. CONCLUSION: Solely relying on the TAS angle for tibial correction was insufficient. We found TTD as a novel method to evaluate mechanical ankle joint axis. TTDP and ΔTTS both positively correlated with ΔAOFAS, indicating the usefulness of these radiologic parameters.

BACKGROUND: The majority of the ankle osteoarthritis cases are posttraumatic and affect younger patients with a longer projected life span. Hence, joint-preserving surgery, such as supramalleolar osteotomy becomes popular among young patients, especially those with asymmetric arthritis due to alignment deformities. However, there is a lack of biomechanical studies on postoperative evaluation of stress at ankle joints. We aimed to construct a verifiable finite element model of the human hindfoot, and to explore the effect of different osteotomy parameters on the treatment of varus ankle arthritis. METHODS: The bones of the hindfoot are reconstructed using normal CT tomography data from healthy volunteers, while the cartilages and ligaments are determined from the literature. The finite element calculation results are compared with the weight-bearing CT (WBCT) data to validate the model. By setting different model parameters, such as the osteotomy height (L) and the osteotomy distraction distance (h), the effects of different surgical parameters on the contact stress of the ankle joint surface are compared. FINDINGS: The alignment and the deformation of hindfoot bones as determined by the finite element analysis aligns closely with the data obtained from WBCT. The maximum contact stress of the ankle joint surface calculated by this model increases with the increase of the varus angle. The maximum contact stresses as a function of the L and h of the ankle joint surface are determined. INTERPRETATION: The relationship between surgical parameters and stress at the ankle joint in our study could further help guiding the planning of the supramalleolar osteotomy according to the varus/valgus alignment of the patients.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical data of patients with end-stage ankle and hindfoot arthropathy who underwent tibiotalocalcaneal (TTC) arthrodesis by the same surgeon, explore the short- and mid-term clinical results, complications and functional improvement, and discuss the clinical prognosis and precautions of TTC arthrodesis. METHODS: Retrospective analysis was made on the clinical data of 40 patients who underwent TTC arthrodesis by the same surgeon from March 2011 to December 2020. In this study, 23 males and 17 females were included, with an average age of (49.1±16.0) years. All the patients underwent unilateral surgery. The clinical characteristics, imaging manifestations, main diagnosis and specific surgical techniques of the patients were recorded. The clinical outcomes were evaluated by comparison of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score and visual analogue scale (VAS) between pre-operation and at the last follow-up. The fusion healing time, symptom improvement (significant improvement, certain improvement, no improvement or deterioration) and postoperative complications were also recorded. RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 38.0 (26.3, 58.8) months. The preoperative VAS score was 6.0 (4.0, 7.0), and the AOFAS score was 33.0 (25.3, 47.3). At the last follow-up, the median VAS score was 0 (0, 3.0), and the AOFAS score was 80.0 (59.0, 84.0). All the significantly improved compared with their preoperative corresponding values (P < 0.05). There was no wound necrosis or infection in the patients. One patient suffered from subtalar joint nonunion, which was syphilitic Charcot arthropathy. The median bony healing time of other patients was 15.0 (12.0, 20.0) weeks. Among the included patients, there were 25 cases with significant improvement in symptom compared with that preoperative, 8 cases with certain improvement, 4 cases with no improvement, and 3 cases with worse symptoms than that before operation. CONCLUSION: TTC arthrodesis is a reliable method for the treatment of the end-stage ankle and hindfoot arthropathy. The function of most patients was improved postoperatively, with little impact on daily life. The causes of poor prognosis included toe stiffness, stress concentration in adjacent knee joints, nonunion and pain of unknown causes.

RAD51D mutations have been implicated in the transformation of normal fallopian tube epithelial (FTE) cells into high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC), one of the most prevalent and aggressive gynecologic malignancies. Currently, no suitable model exists to elucidate the role of RAD51D in disease initiation and progression. Here, we established organoids from primary human FTE and introduced TP53 as well as RAD51D knockdown to enable the exploration of their mutational impact on FTE lesion generation. We observed that TP53 deletion rescued the adverse effects of RAD51D deletion on the proliferation, stemness, senescence, and apoptosis of FTE organoids. RAD51D deletion impaired the homologous recombination (HR) function and induced G2/M phase arrest, whereas concurrent TP53 deletion mitigated G0/G1 phase arrest and boosted DNA replication when combined with RAD51D mutation. The co-deletion of TP53 and RAD51D downregulated cilia assembly, development, and motility, but upregulated multiple HGSOC-associated pathways, including the IL-17 signaling pathway. IL-17A treatment significantly improved cell viability. TP53 and RAD51D co-deleted organoids exhibited heightened sensitivity to platinum, poly-ADP ribose polymerase inhibitors (PARPi), and cell cycle-related medication. In summary, our research highlighted the use of FTE organoids with RAD51D mutations as an invaluable in vitro platform for the early detection of carcinogenesis, mechanistic exploration, and drug screening.

OBJECTIVE: Hip fracture patients are recommended to undergo surgery within 24-36 h. The present study aimed to analyze the current status of hip fracture surgery among the elderly in China. METHODS: The baseline information, such as the patient's age, gender, place of residence, place of treatment, fracture type, admission, and operation time, of hip fracture patients >65-years-old were retrieved from the hospital quality monitoring system (HQMS) database from 2013 to 2017 and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 304,279 patients >65-years-old with hip fractures were included in this study. The average length of hospital stay was 15 days, and the average waiting time for surgery after admission was 96 h. The average surgery rate of elderly hip fractures in China was 59.6 %, of which the lowest was recorded in the Northwest China (46.4 %). CONCLUSIONS: The major issues in diagnosing and treating elderly patients with hip fractures in China are the long waiting time for surgery and the low surgery rate.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes, patient-reported outcomes, and recurrence rate of patients diagnosed with ankle gouty arthritis who underwent arthroscopic surgery based on the new classification. METHODS: A total of 51 patients diagnosed with ankle gouty arthritis were included in this retrospective study. A new classification was proposed based on the location and extent of MSU crystal deposition under an arthroscopy view. Patients are classified into different types and underwent arthroscopic surgery accordingly. The primary outcome measure was the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score. The secondary outcomes included the visual analog pain scale (VAS), serum uric acid levels, and the recurrence rate of ankle gouty arthritis at one year postoperatively. RESULTS: Based on the new classification, five patients were Type I, 24 patients were Type II, five were Type III A, six were Type III B, and 11 were Type IV. The average follow-up time was 23.5 ± 10.9 months. The AOFAS hindfoot-ankle score improved significantly from 70.3 ± 15.9 to 85.6 ± 13.0 (p < 0.01). The mean serum uric acid level was significantly decreased from 442.0 ± 109.2 to 540.5 ± 132.4 (p < 0.01). The average VAS scale decreased from 3.8 ± 1.9 to 1.4 ± 1.7 (p < 0.01). The median of recurrences in one year postoperatively was significantly decreased from 1.5 (1, 3.75) to 0 (0, 0.75) (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION: A new classification strategy for ankle gouty arthritis based on arthroscopic view was proposed. Patients with ankle gouty arthritis showed significant improvement in ankle function and pain relief after undergoing arthroscopic surgery driven by the new classification.

Brain networks extracted by independent component analysis (ICA) from magnitude-only fMRI data are usually denoised using various amplitude-based thresholds. By contrast, spatial source phase (SSP) or the phase information of ICA brain networks extracted from complex-valued fMRI data, has provided a simple yet effective way to perform the denoising using a fixed phase change. In this work, we extend the approach to magnitude-only fMRI data to avoid testing various amplitude thresholds for denoising magnitude maps extracted by ICA, as most studies do not save the complex-valued data. The main idea is to generate a mathematical SSP map for a magnitude map using a mapping framework, and the mapping framework is built using complex-valued fMRI data with a known SSP map. Here we leverage the fact that the phase map derived from phase fMRI data has similar phase information to the SSP map. After verifying the use of the magnitude data of complex-valued fMRI, this framework is generalized to work with magnitude-only data, allowing use of our approach even without the availability of the corresponding phase fMRI datasets. We test the proposed method using both simulated and experimental fMRI data including complex-valued data from University of New Mexico and magnitude-only data from Human Connectome Project. The results provide evidence that the mathematical SSP denoising with a fixed phase change is effective for denoising spatial maps from magnitude-only fMRI data in terms of retaining more BOLD-related activity and fewer unwanted voxels, compared with amplitude-based thresholding. The proposed method provides a unified and efficient SSP approach to denoise ICA brain networks in fMRI data.

Cinnamomum camphora (camphor tree) is an important non-conventional edible plant species found in East Asia. Here, a detailed characterization for the chemical composition and nutritional value of C. camphora seed kernels (CCSKs) collected from different regions in China is provided. The results showed that there were significant differences among the CCSK samples in weights (1000 fruits, 1000 seeds and 1000 kernels), proximate composition, minerals, phenolics, flavonoids and amino acid contents. The highest contents of oil (62.08%) and protein (22.17%) were found in the CCSK samples collected from Chongqing and Shanghai, respectively. The highest content of mineral in the CCSK samples was K (4345.05-7186.89 mg/kg), followed by P (2735.86-5385.36 mg/kg), Ca (1412.27-3327.37 mg/kg) and Mg (2028.65-3147.32 mg/kg). The CCSK sample collected from Guizhou had the highest levels of total phenolic and flavonoid contents (TPC and TFC), while that from Chongqing had the lowest levels. In addition, the most abundant fatty acid in the CCSK samples was capric acid (57.37-60.18%), followed by lauric acid (35.23-38.29%). Similarities in the fatty acid composition among the CCSK samples were found. The CCSK sample collected from Guizhou had the highest percentage (36.20%) of essential amino acids to total amino acids, and Chongqing had the lowest value (28.84%). These results indicated that CCSK may be developed as an excellent source of plant-based medium-chain oil, protein, dietary fiber, minerals, phytochemicals and essential amino acids.

Objective: To evaluate the early effectiveness of a new minimally invasive plate in the treatment of varus-type ankle arthritis. Methods: A clinical data of 15 patients with varus-type ankle arthritis who met the selection criteria between March 2021 and October 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients were treated with medial open-wedge supramalleolar osteotomy and fibular osteotomy. The osteotomies were fixed with the new minimally invasive plate. There were 7 males and 8 females with an average age of 49.8 years (range, 16-71 years). The causes of ankle arthritis included post-fracture deformity in 1 case, sprain in 8 cases, and acquired clubfoot in 1 case; and 5 cases were without obvious factors. The disease duration ranged from 1 to 12 years, with an average of 4.1 years. Comparisons were made between pre-operation and the last follow-up in the Takakura staging, the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) ankle-hindfoot score, foot function index (FFI), visual analogue scale (VAS) score, tibial anterior surface angle (TAS), tibial lateral surface angle (TLS), and talar tilt (TT). Results: All incisions healed by first intention. All patients were followed up 7-18 months (mean, 12.8 months). At last follow-up, the AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score, FFI, VAS score, and Takakura staging significantly improved when compared with the preoperative ones ( P<0.05). X-ray films showed that the osteotomy healed at 3 months after operation. At last follow-up, TAS significantly increased and TT decreased when compared with the preoperative ones ( P<0.05), and the difference in TLS between pre- and post-operation was not significant ( P>0.05). Complications included 1 case of intraoperative screw breakage and 2 cases of nerve injury of the affected foot. None of the patients complained of significant discomfort at the plate placement during follow-up, and no loosening of the internal fixator occurred. Eleven patients were very satisfied with the effeectiveness, while 4 were relatively satisfied. Conclusion: The new minimally invasive plate for the varus-type ankle arthritis has good early effectiveness in relieving ankle pain, correcting deformity, improving limb alignment and ankle function, and reducing the incidence of postoperative incisional complications.

Interactions between plant-based proteins (PP) and phenolic compounds (PC) occur naturally in many food products. Recently, special attention has been paid to the fabrication of PP-PC conjugates or complexes in model systems with a focus on their effects on their structure, functionality, and health benefits. Conjugates are held together by covalent bonds, whereas complexes are held together by noncovalent ones. This review highlights the nature of protein-phenolic interactions involving PP. The interactions of these PC with the PP in model systems are discussed, as well as their impact on the structural, functional, and health-promoting properties of PP. The PP in conjugates and complexes tend to be more unfolded than in their native state, which often improves their functional attributes. PP-PC conjugates and complexes often exhibit improved in vitro digestibility, antioxidant activity, and potential allergy-reducing activities. Consequently, they may be used as antioxidant emulsifiers, edible film additives, nanoparticles, and hydrogels in the food industry. However, studies focusing on the application of PP-PC conjugates and complexes in real foods are still scarce. Further research is therefore required to determine the structure-function relationships of PP-PC conjugates and complexes that may influence their application as functional ingredients in the food industry.

Stretchable electrodes are highly demanded in various wearable and flexible electronic devices, whereas the efficient fabrication approach is still a challenge. In this work, an efficient shrinking method to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT)-based stretchable electrodes is proposed. The electrode is a layer of anisotropic CNT wrinkling film coated on a latex balloon substrate (CNT@latex), whose resistivity remains stable after 25 000 stretching cycles of 0 to 50% tensile strain, and can survive up to 500% tensile train. The highly conductive electrode can be used as the current collector of a stretchable Zinc-ion battery, maintaining an output voltage of 1.3 V during the stretching process of 0 to 100%. The applications of the electrode in flexible triboelectric nanogenerators and Joule heating devices are also demonstrated, further indicating their good prospects in the field of stretchable electronic devices.

The Cinnamomum camphora seed kernel (CCSK), with high contents of medium-chain oil (~59%) and protein (~19%), is an excellent source for a plant-based food ingredient. To broaden the application of the protein isolate (PI) from CCSK in the food industry, the Maillard reaction products (MRPs) were prepared by PI and dextran (DX) under mild wet-heating conditions (60 °C, 5 h), and the structural and functional properties of the PI-DX conjugates were investigated. The covalent bond between PI and DX was confirmed by the degree of grafting and sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Compared with the heated PI, the PI-DX conjugates had more ordered structure, with the decreased random coil content. The changes in tertiary structure of PI-DX conjugates were reflected by the results of intrinsic fluorescence and surface hydrophobicity. Moreover, PI-DX conjugates showed better solubility, emulsifying properties, thermal stability and antioxidant activities. These results provided a theoretical basis for the development of PI-based MRPs with desirable characteristics.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcomes of intermediate stage varus ankle arthritis treated by supramalleolar osteotomy. METHODS: Clinical data of 57 patients with varus arthritis who underwent supramalleolar osteotomy at our hospital between March 2018 and December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were grouped according to the Takakura classification, and assessed using the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) Ankle-Hindfoot Score and the Visual Analogue Score (VAS). Tibial anterior surface (TAS) angle and talar tilt (TT) angle were measured at the weight-bearing anteroposterior view. Tibial lateral surface (TLS) angle was measured at the weight-bearing lateral view. The differences in the above indicators of patients with different stages of varus ankle arthritis before and after treatment were analyzed. RESULTS: The patients were followed up for an average of 31.9 ± 5.8 months. Upon the last follow-up, the AOFAS score was 84.1 ± 9.7, the VAS score 2.2 ± 1.3, the TAS angle 92.4 ± 5.5°, the TLS angle 79.3 ± 5.3°, and the TT angle 3.7±3.4°, which were significantly different from the preoperative levels (64.2 ± 14.6, 4.5 ± 1.8, 80.5 ± 6.7°, 74.9 ± 4.6°, and 5.2 ± 64.1°, respectively) (p < .05). There were significant differences in AOFAS and VAS scores before surgery and upon the last follow-up in each group (p < .05). The postoperative TT angle was significantly different from the preoperative level in stage IIIb patients (p = .003). CONCLUSIONS: Supramalleolar osteotomy achieved good short-to mid-term clinical outcomes for intermediate stage varus ankle arthritis. This procedure could significantly improve the TAS and TLS angles of the patients at any stage and the TT angle of stage IIIb patients.

RESUMEN

Complex-valued shift-invariant canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) under a spatial phase sparsity constraint (pcsCPD) shows excellent separation performance when applied to band-pass filtered complex-valued multi-subject fMRI data. However, some useful information may also be eliminated when using a band-pass filter to suppress unwanted noise. As such, we propose an alternating rank- R and rank-1 least squares optimization to relax the CPD model. Based upon this optimization method, we present a novel constrained CPD algorithm with temporal shift-invariance and spatial sparsity and orthonormality constraints. More specifically, four steps are conducted until convergence for each iteration of the proposed algorithm: 1) use rank- R least-squares fit under spatial phase sparsity constraint to update shared spatial maps after phase de-ambiguity; 2) use orthonormality constraint to minimize the cross-talk between shared spatial maps; 3) update the aggregating mixing matrix using rank- R least-squares fit; 4) utilize shift-invariant rank-1 least-squares on a series of rank-1 matrices reconstructed by each column of the aggregating mixing matrix to update shared time courses, and subject-specific time delays and intensities. The experimental results of simulated and actual complex-valued fMRI data show that the proposed algorithm improves the estimates for task-related sensorimotor and auditory networks, compared to pcsCPD and tensorial spatial ICA. The proposed alternating rank- R and rank-1 least squares optimization is also flexible to improve CPD-related algorithm using alternating least squares.

Flexible, stretchable, wearable, and stable electronic materials are widely studied, owing to their applications in wearable devices and the Internet of Things. Because of the demands for both strain-insensitive resistors and high gauge factor (GF) strain-sensitive materials, anisotropic strain sensitivity has been an important aspect of electronic materials. In addition, the materials should have adjustable strain sensitivities. In this work, such properties are demonstrated in reduced graphene oxide (RGO) with hierarchical oriented wrinkle microstructures, generated using the two-step shrinkage of a rubber substrate. The GF values range from 0.15 to 28.32 at 100% strain. For device demonstrations, macrostructure patterns are designed to prepare patterned wrinkling graphene at rubber substrate (PWG@R). Serpentiform curves can be used for the constant-value resistor, combined with the first-grade wrinkles. Strip lines can increase the strain-sensing property, along with the second-grade wrinkles. The patterned sensor exhibits improved GF values range from 0.05 to 49.5. The assembled sensor shows an excellent stability (>99% retention after 600 cycles) with a high GF (49.5). It can monitor the vital signs of the throat and wrist and sense large motions of fingers. Thus, PWG@R-based strain sensors have great potential in various health or motion monitoring fields.

BACKGROUND: Total ankle replacement (TAR) is a viable option for the treatment of end-stage ankle arthritis. In China, the INBONE-II implant is the only total ankle prosthesis approved since 2016. The purpose of this study is to report a large sample of findings for the TAR with INBONE-II prosthesis. METHODS: A total of 64 patients with end-stage ankle arthritis, who underwent primary TAR using INBONE-II by the same surgeon from 2016 to 2019, at a single institution were included in this retrospective, single-center study. Clinical data, radiographic findings, survival rate, and complications were recorded and assessed pre-operatively and at the most recent follow-up. RESULTS: A total of 64 patients were available for follow-up at least 2 years after surgery; the mean follow-up duration for clinical outcomes was 37.9 months (24-59 months), and for radiographic findings was 22.8 months (12-59 months). There were significant improvements ( P  < 0.01) in the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society hindfoot scale, the visual analog scale for pain, and the Short Form-36. There were statistically significant differences between pre-operative and post-operative comparisons of the talar tilt angle (TT) and the tibial lateral surface angle (TLS) in the radiographic findings (TT from 4.7 ±â€Š4.3° to 1.3 ±â€Š1.3°, TLS from 80.4 ±â€Š7.7° to 87.4 ±â€Š2.3°, P  < 0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in improvement of the tibial anterior surface angle ( P  = 0.14). Ten complications (all low grade) were recorded according to the Glazebrook classification system. The survivorship of the prosthesis was 100% (64/64). CONCLUSION: Patients who underwent TAR with INBONE-II prosthesis demonstrated significant improvements in all measures of pain and function as well as in radiographic findings. High survival and a low incidence of complications were observed in this study.

OBJECTIVE: To explore whether modified Chevron osteotomy together with distal soft tissue release would correct moderate to severe HV deformity and what is the minimal clinical important difference (MCID) for objective and subjective evaluating parameters. METHODS: From March 2018 to January 2019, 40 hallux valgus patients (including moderate to severe) were enrolled in this retrospective study. The cohort included four males and 36 females. The average age at surgery was 50.95 (range 22-75) years. All patients underwent modified Chevron osteotomy together with distal soft tissue release and completed at least one follow-up at clinic. The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle forefoot score (AOFAS, forefoot), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and Foot Function Index (FFI) were all collected before and after surgery. Besides, the hallux valgus angle (HVA), 1st-2nd intermetatarsal angle (IMA) and distal metatarsal articular angle (DMAA) were measured both before surgery and at last follow-up. All MCID values were calculated by employing distribution-based method. RESULTS: Thirty-seven patients (92.5%) showed satisfied result at a mean 14.3-month follow-up (range 13-22 month). Two patients complained about residual pain at the bunion, and overcorrection (hallux varus) occurred in one patient. Meanwhile, no patient observed nonunion. Being female, age more than 60, residual HVA deformity (>15°), and post IMA more than 9° showed no statistical relationship with the post-operation residual pain (P > 0.05). However, high VAS score before surgery (more than 7) showed strong correlation with residual pain (P < 0.01). The subjective MCID value was 9.50 for AOFAS, 18.92 for FFI, and 1.27 for VAS, respectively. CONCLUSION: The modified Chevron osteotomy together with distal soft tissue release could achieve a satisfied result for moderate to severe HV deformity at early follow-up. The residual pain was associated with severe pain before surgery (VAS more than 7).

In this study, protein isolate (PI) and purified polyphenol extract (PPE) were prepared from Cinnamomum camphora seed kernel (CCSK). The effects of preheat treatment (50-90 °C) combined with polyphenol grafting (5 % PPE, w/w) on the structural, emulsifying and rheological properties of PI were investigated. Results demonstrated the preheat treatments at 80 and 90 °C significantly increased the extent of protein aggregation of PI. Fluorescence spectra and thermal behavior analysis revealed that preheat-treated PI exhibited more compact structure and higher thermal stability. Moreover, the emulsifying stability and apparent viscosity of PI were enhanced after preheat treatments at 50, 60 and 70 °C. After modification by PPE, the secondary structural changes of preheat-treated PI were confirmed by FTIR. PPE modification improved the thermal stability and antioxidant activities of preheat-treated PI. These results provide a novel way to combine the advantages of preheat treatment and polyphenol grafting in developing a novel protein ingredient.
