RESUMEN

The present study investigated the operational conditions for different pretreatment approaches and subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis of cauliflower wastes (stalk and leaf) for better release of fermentable sugars. The structural analysis of raw and pretreated lignocellulosic biomasses was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transforms infrared (FTIR) analysis. Results demonstrated that the highest cellulose conversion rate and removal of most of the hemicellulose and lignin were obtained with organosolvent pretreatment. Using methanol in presence of sodium (Na) acetate was most effective in delignification of cauliflower wastes. In the present study, methanol (100% v/v) in presence of 0.1 M Na-acetate at 121 °C for 45 and 60 min for stalk and leaf, respectively, gave maximum reducing sugar yield. Response surface methodology was used to optimize different process parameters for enzymatic saccharification using microbial cellulase and xylanase. The optimum operation condition of enzymatic hydrolysis of organosolvent pretreated cauliflower wastes were substrate loading (2.5% w/v for both stalk and leaf), enzyme loading (15 and 10 U/g for stalk and leaf, respectively), pH (4.46 and 5.48 for stalk and leaf, respectively), at 60 °C and for 180 min.

RESUMEN

In this paper, the design of a complete instrumentation system to detect different types of milk adulteration has been reported. A simple to use indicator type readout device is reported which can be used by milk community people. A low cost microcontroller based automatic sensing system is also reported to detect 'synthetic milk', which has been reconstructed after adulterating the milk with 'liquid-whey'.

RESUMEN

The effect of exposing 2'-deoxyadenosine (dA), 5'-dAMP, 3'-dAMP, dApA, dA(pdA)(19,) and poly(dA): oligo(dT) to iron/H(2)O(2) in the presence and absence of ethanol or NADH has been studied. HPLC retention times, enzyme treatments, radio-labeled substrates, UV absorption spectra, and fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry (FABMS) have been used to distinguish 20 products arising from the reaction, of which 16 have been identified and four anomers proposed by comparison with earlier gamma radiation studies. The radical responsible for the reactions seems to be analogous to radiation-derived [Formula: see text], has many products in common, but has some novel ones probably specific for Fenton-induced damage. Two new dimeric adducts arising from the generation of hydroxylamine at N7 and its subsequent condensation with two known sugar damage products, dR-adenine-N1-oxide, and two isomers of dR-FAPy arising from radical attacks at C4 and C5, may be considered novel in the present study. Unlike radiation-derived [Formula: see text], the radical under study is difficult to eliminate due to its generation in the proximity of the substrate molecules. It is proposed that the iron binds to the phosphate group and generates the radical in its vicinity. Strand breaks in dA(pdA)(11) resulting from the Fenton reaction are of two types, spontaneous and alkali-labile. Duplex DNA is less sensitive to attack by this radical, as its various degradation products are a subset of those obtained with monomer substrates and only dR-FAPy production is relatively enhanced for poly (dA): oligo (dT) as compared to those from other substrates.

RESUMEN

The phase curve of an open loop system is flat in nature if the derivative of its phase with respect to frequency is zero. With a flat-phase curve, the corresponding closed loop system exhibits an iso-damped property i.e. maintains constant overshoot with the change of gain. This implies enhanced parametric robustness e.g. to variation in system gain. In the recent past, fractional order (FO) phase shapers have been proposed by contemporary researchers to achieve enhanced parametric robustness. In this paper, a simple methodology is proposed to design an appropriate FO phase shaper to achieve phase flattening in a control loop, comprising a plant controlled by a classical Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controller. The methodology is demonstrated with MATLAB simulation of representative plants and accompanying PID controllers.
