RESUMEN

The practical implementation of the lithium metal anode (LMA) has long been pursued due to its extremely high specific capacity and low electrochemical equilibrium potential. However, the unstable interfaces resulting from lithium ultrahigh reactivity have significantly hindered the use of LMA. This instability directly leads to dendrite growth behavior, dead lithium, low Coulombic efficiency, and even safety concerns. Therefore, artificial solid electrolyte interfaces (ASEI) with enhanced physicochemical and electrochemistry properties have been explored to stabilize LMA. Polymer materials, with their flexible structures and multiple functional groups, offer a promising way for structurally designing ASEIs to address the challenges faced by LMA. This Concept demonstrates an overview of polymer ASEIs with different functionalities, such as providing uniform lithium ion and single-ion transportation, inhibiting side reactions, possessing self-healing ability, and improving air stability. Furthermore, challenges and prospects for the future application of polymeric ASEIs in commercial lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are also discussed.

RESUMEN

The development of lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) has been limited by problems, such as severe dendrite growth, drastic interfacial reactions, and large volume change. Herein, an LMB (8AP@LiB) combining agraphene oxide-poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) functionalized polypropylene separator (8AP) with a lithium-boron (LiB) anode is designed to overcome these problems. Raman results demonstrate that the PEO chain on 8AP can influence the Li+ solvation structure in the electrolyte, resulting in Li+ homogeneous diffusion and Li+ deposition barrier reduction. 8AP exhibits good ionic conductivity (4.9 × 10-4 S cm-1), a high Li+ migration number (0.88), and a significant electrolyte uptake (293%). The 3D LiB skeleton can significantly reduce the anode volume changes and local current density during the charging/discharging process. Therefore, 8AP@LiB effectively regulates the Li+ flux and promotes the uniform Li deposition without dendrites. The Li||Li symmetrical cells of 8AP@LiB exhibit a high electrochemical stability of up to 1000 h at 1 mA cm-2 and 5 mAh cm-2. Importantly, the Li||LiFePO4 full cells of 8AP@LiB achieve an impressive 2000 cycles at 2C, while maintaining a high-capacity retention of 86%. The synergistic effect of the functionalized separator and LiB anode might provide a direction for the development of high-performance LMBs.

RESUMEN

Photosensitizers have emerged as cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) activators in photodynamic therapy (PDT), which induced cell apoptosis. As the major contributors to ROS and oxidative stress, mitochondria play an important role in cell apoptosis. Although there are many reports about near-infrared 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) as photosensitizers (PSs) for PDT, this kind of PS has rarely been used for treating mitochondrial function and choroidal neovascularization application at the same time. Herein, a novel near-infrared PS (BDP2) characterized by good water solubility, long wavelength excitation, and high ROS quantum yield has been made. Under near-infrared light irradiation, BDP2 would generate ROS with high yield, induce a mitochondrial morphology change, and trigger cell apoptosis by changing the fusion protein level. Deep investigation revealed that BDP2 can cause oxidative stress, break the balance between fusion and fission of mitochondrial dynamics protein through decreasing fusion protein MFN2 and OPA1 expression, and finally cause cell apoptosis. Due to these characteristics, the BDP2 PS was used to treat choroidal neovascularization in animal models and can inhibit neovascularization.

RESUMEN

Prunus is an economically important genus widely distributed in the temperate Northern Hemisphere. Previous studies on the genus using a variety of loci yielded conflicting phylogenetic hypotheses. Here, we generated nuclear reduced representation sequencing data and plastid genomes for 36 Prunus individuals and two outgroups. Both nuclear and plastome data recovered a well-resolved phylogeny. The species were divided into three main clades corresponding to their inflorescence types, - the racemose group, the solitary-flower group and the corymbose group - with the latter two sister to one another. Prunus was inferred to have diversified initially in the Late Cretaceous around 67.32 million years ago. The diversification of the three major clades began between the Paleocene and Miocene, suggesting that paleoclimatic events were an important driving force for Prunus diversification. Ancestral state reconstructions revealed that the most recent common ancestor of Prunus had racemose inflorescences, and the solitary-flower and corymb inflorescence types were derived by reduction of flower number and suppression of the rachis, respectively. We also tested the hybrid origin hypothesis of the racemose group proposed in previous studies. Prunus has undergone extensive hybridization events, although it is difficult to identify conclusively specific instances of hybridization when using SNP data, especially deep in the phylogeny. Our study provides well-resolved nuclear and plastid phylogenies of Prunus, reveals substantial cytonuclear discord at shallow scales, and sheds new light on inflorescence evolution in this economically important lineage.

RESUMEN

A nickel-catalyzed direct cross-coupling of unactivated aryl fluorides with aryl bromides is realized. The one-pot reaction, which avoids the use of preformed and sensitive organometallic reagents, proceeds effectively via C-F bond cleavage at room temperature in THF in the presence of the phosphine ligand and magnesium powder (with or without TMSCl) to produce the desired biaryls in modest to good yields.

RESUMEN

The commercialization pace of aqueous zinc batteries (AZBs) is seriously limited due to the uncontrolled dendrite growth and severe corrosion reaction of the zinc anode. Herein, a universal and extendable saturated fatty acid-zinc interfacial layer strategy for modulating the interfacial redox process of zinc toward ultrastable Zn metal anodes is proposed. The in situ complexing of saturated fatty acid-zinc interphases could construct an extremely thin zinc compound layer with continuously constructed zincophilic sites which kinetically regulates Zn nucleation and deposition behaviors. Furthermore, the multifunctional interfacial layer with internal hydrophobic carbon chains as a protective layer is efficient to exclude active water molecules from the surface and efficiently inhibit the surface corrosion of zinc. Consequently, the modified anode shows a long cycle life of over 4000 h at 5 mA cm-2. In addition, the assembled Zn||V2O5 full cells based on modified zinc anodes have excellent rate performance and long cycle stability.

RESUMEN

Lithium (Li) metal anodes have the highest theoretical capacity and lowest electrochemical potential making them ideal for Li metal batteries (LMBs). However, Li dendrite formation on the anode impedes the proper discharge capacity and practical cycle life of LMBs, particularly in carbonate electrolytes. Herein, we developed a reactive alternative polymer named P(St-MaI) containing carboxylic acid and cyclic ether moieties which would in situ form artificial polymeric solid electrolyte interface (SEI) with Li. This SEI can accommodate volume changes and maintain good interfacial contact. The presence of carboxylic acid and cyclic ether pendant groups greatly contribute to the induction of uniform Li ion deposition. In addition, the presence of benzyl rings makes the polymer have a certain mechanical strength and plays a key role in inhibiting the growth of Li dendrites. As a result, the symmetric Li||Li cell with P(St-MaI)@Li layer can stably cycle for over 900 h under 1 mA cm-2 without polarization voltage increasing, while their Li||LiFePO4 full batteries maintain high capacity retention of 96 % after 930 cycles at 1C in carbonate electrolytes. The innovative strategy of artificial SEI is broadly applicable in designing new materials to inhibit Li dendrite growth on Li metal anodes.

RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Plasmacytoma is a rare plasma cell dyscrasia that grows within the axial skeleton or soft tissue structures as solitary or multiple masses. The primary types are solitary plasmacytoma, including solitary bone plasmacytoma (SBP) and solitary extramedullary plasmacytoma, and multiple solitary plasmacytomas. SBP is characterized by localized proliferation of monoclonal plasma cells and is rare. However, SBP with chronic osteomyelitis is even rarer. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 47-year-old man previously diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis presented with repeated discharge and ulceration in the front of his right tibia. DIAGNOSIS, INTERVENTIONS AND OUTCOMES: Lower extremity magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) examinations showed dead bone formation and surrounding inflammatory edema. Thus, the patient underwent dead bone excision and fenestration of the bone marrow cavity. The histopathologic examination results indicated plasmacytoma. Therefore, we administered radiotherapy with satisfactory results. LESSONS: Physicians should pay close attention to chronic osteomyelitis because it may be accompanied by plasmacytoma. Postoperative pathological and immunohistochemical examinations are crucial, and surgical resection of the lesion and local radiotherapy are effective treatment methods.

RESUMEN

A novel single camera combined with Risley prisms is proposed to achieve a super-resolution (SR) imaging and field-of-view extension (FOV) imaging method. We develop a mathematical model to consider the imaging aberrations caused by large-angle beam deflection and propose an SR reconstruction scheme that uses a beam backtracking method for image correction combined with a sub-pixel shift alignment technique. For the FOV extension, we provide a new scheme for the scanning position path of the Risley prisms and the number of image acquisitions, which improves the acquisition efficiency and reduces the complexity of image stitching. Simulation results show that the method can increase the image resolution to the diffraction limit of the optical system for imaging systems where the resolution is limited by the pixel size. Experimental results and analytical verification yield that the resolution of the image can be improved by a factor of 2.5, and the FOV extended by a factor of 3 at a reconstruction factor of 5. The FOV extension is in general agreement with the simulation results. Risley prisms can provide a more general, low-cost, and efficient method for SR reconstruction, FOV expansion, central concave imaging, and various scanning imaging.

RESUMEN

Background: Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) depletion is reported to be a potential treatment for B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL), but the mechanism of NAD metabolism-related genes (NMRGs) in B-ALL relapse remains unclear. Methods: Transcriptome data (GSE3912), and single-cell sequencing data (GSE130116) of B-ALL patients were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. NMRGs were sourced from Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Reactome databases. Further, the differentially expressed NMRGs (DE-NMRGs) were selected from the analysis between initial diagnosis and relapse B-ALL samples, which further performed functional enrichment analyses. The biomarkers were obtained through random forest (RF) algorithm and repeated cross validation. Additionally, cell type identification by estimating relative subsets of RNA transcripts (CIBERSORT) algorithm was used to evaluate the immune cell differences between the initial diagnosis and relapse samples, and the correlations between biomarkers and gene markers of differential immune cells were analyzed. Furthermore, single cell RNA sequencing was conducted in the GSE130116 dataset to find key cell clusters. In addition, according to biomarkers expressions, cell clusters were categorized into high and low biomarker expression groups, and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (GSEA) analysis was performed on them. Finally, the cell clusters with the highest expression of biomarkers were selected to explore the roles of biomarkers in different cell clusters and identify transcription factors (TFs) influencing biological markers. Results: 23 DE-NMRGs were screened out, which were mainly enriched in nucleoside phosphate metabolic process, nucleotide metabolic process, and Nicotinate and nicotinamide metabolism. Moreover, 3 biomarkers (NADSYN1, SIRT3, and PARP6) were identified from the machine learning. CIBERSORT results demonstrated that four types of immune cells (B Cells naive, Monocyte, Neutrophils, and T cells CD4 memory Activated) were significantly different between the initial diagnosis and the relapse B-ALL samples, and there were strong correlations between biomarkers and differential immune cells such as positive correlation between NADSYN1 and B Cells naive. The single cell analyses showed that the biomarkers were highly expressed in common myeloid progenitors (CMP), granulocyte-macrophage progenitor (GMP), and megakaryocyte-erythroid progenitor (MEP) cell clusters. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) results indicated that 55 GO terms and 3 KEGG pathways were enriched by the genes in high and low biomarker expression groups. It was found that TF CREB3L2(+) was significantly reduced in the high expression group, which may be the TF affecting biomarkers in the high expression group. Conclusion: This study identified NADSYN1, SIRT3, and PARP6 as the biomarkers of B-ALL, explored biological significance of NMRGs in the initial diagnosis and relapse of B-ALL, and revealed mechanism of biomarkers at the level of the single cell.

RESUMEN

Lumbar facet osteoarthritis (FJOA) is a major cause of severe lower back pain and disability worldwide. However, the mechanism underlying cartilage degeneration in FJOA remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the regulation and mechanism of P2Y12 on chondrocyte apoptosis in FJOA. The experimental rats were randomly divided into non-operation (n = 20) and operation groups (n = 20). In the operation group, Sodium iodoacetate (MIA, Sigma, 200 mg/mL) was injected into the right L4/5 facet process using a blunt nanoneedle 26 (WPI, Sarasota, FL, USA) under the control of an injection pump. The final injection volume was 5µL and the injection rate was 2µL/min. The facet joint was removed four weeks after surgery. After the operation, samples were stored at -80 °C until further use, whereby the right facet joints in each group were tested. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) and iron-red solid green staining were used to observe the degeneration of articular chondrocytes in rats. Immunohistochemistry and western blotting were used to observe the expressions of P2Y12, Matrix metalloproteinase 13 (MMP13), Collagen II (COL2), and other cartilage degeneration and apoptosis-related genes. Co-localization of P2Y12-cleaved caspase-3 in the apoptosis model was detected by dual-standard immunofluorescence staining. Apoptosis was also detected by flow cytometry and TUNEL assay.P2Y12 is highly expressed in OA cartilage tissue, and inhibits IL-1ß -induced chondrocyte apoptosis through PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, thus playing a certain protective role on cartilage.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Neuronal apoptosis after spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to sensorial and motorial dysfunction. Exosomes are vesicles that contain many cellular components, including microRNA, and the role of miR-429 in plasma exosomes in this process after SCI requires further investigation. METHODS: The New York University impactor was used to create a rat model of SCI. We used SH-SY5Y cells to construct a neuronal apoptotic cell model and extracted plasma exosomes from rats in a stimulation. A miR-429 mimic and inhibitor were transfected, and the apoptosis-related indicators of the SH-SY5Y cells were detected by using western blot, cell-counting kit-8 and immunofluorescence. The possible targets of miR-429 were examined to verify the pathway of action. We then used the dual-luciferase reporter assay to verify the binding of miR-429 with downstream molecules and speculate the mechanism of action. RESULTS: We successfully isolated and identified exosomes from plasma. Both the mean of adding exosomes extracted from SCI-patients' plasma and knockdown of miR-429 in the culture of SH-SY5Y cells promoted their apoptosis. Dual luciferase assays confirmed the interaction of miR-429 and 3'-UTR region of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN), which is the downstream target gene of miR-429, and the knockdown of miR-429 inhibits the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B pathway by upregulating PTEN. CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that the decreased expression of miR-429 in SCI rat plasma exosomes promotes the apoptosis of nerve cells, which may be achieved by miR-429 interacting with PTEN and then affecting the PI3K/Akt pathway. This can be a possible mechanism of damage caused by SCI.

RESUMEN

The spin-dependent polaron dynamics in organic ferromagnets under driven electric fields are investigated by using the extended Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model coupled with a nonadiabatic dynamics method. It is found that the spin-down polaron with the same spin orientation as the radicals drifts faster than the spin-up one under the same driven electric field. In an applicable range of driven electric fields, the velocity of the spin-down polaron is about 3.4 times that of the spin-up one. The dynamical property of the polaron with each spin (up or down) is asymmetric upon the reversal of the driven electric fields. The diverse dynamical properties of polarons with specific spins can be attributed to the spin nondegenerate polaron energy levels, the dipole moment generated by the asymmetrical polaron charge distributions and the strong electron-lattice coupling in organic ferromagnets. Our findings are expected to be useful for improving organic ferromagnet based spintronic devices.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Substantial evidence has demonstrated that tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are correlated with patient prognosis. The TIL-based immune score (IS) affects prognosis in various cancers, but its prognostic impact in gastric cancer (GC) patients treated with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy remains unclear. METHODS: A total of 101 GC patients who received chemoradiotherapy after gastrectomy were retrospectively analyzed in this study. Immunohistochemistry staining for CD3+ and CD8+ T-cell counts in both tumor center (CT) and invasive margin (IM) regions was built into the IS. Patients were then divided into three groups based on their differential IS levels. The correlation between IS and clinical parameters was analyzed. The prognostic impact of IS and clinical parameters was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional hazard regression analysis. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted to compare the area under the curve (AUC) of IS with other clinical parameters. Nomograms for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) prediction were constructed based on the identified parameters. RESULTS: Finally, 20 (19.8%), 57 (56.4%), and 24 (23.8%) GC patients were identified with low, intermediate, and high IS levels, respectively. GC patients with higher IS levels exhibited better DFS (p < 0.001) and OS (p < 0.001). IS was an independent prognostic factor for both DFS (p < 0.001) and OS (p < 0.001) in multivariate analysis. IS presented a better predictive ability than the traditional pathological tumor-node-metastasis (pTNM) staging system (AUC: 0.801 vs. 0.677 and 0.800 vs. 0.660, respectively) with respect to both DFS and OS. The C-index of the nomograms for DFS and OS prediction was 0.737 and 0.774, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: IS is a strong predictive factor for both DFS and OS in GC patients treated with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy, which may complement the traditional pTNM staging system.

RESUMEN

Two kinds of 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) dyads BDP-OH containing 4-hydroxystyrene groups and BDP-PY bearing pyridinyl units were prepared. In addition, a naphthalene derivative NAP-PY modified by pyridinyl moieties substituent was made. The above three dyads could be used to construct white-light emission (WLE) material by a supramolecular engineering strategy due to their three primary colors of blue, green and red. The supramolecular correlations between the hydroxyl group of BDP-OH and the pyridinyl groups of NAP-PY and BDP-PY were confirmed by 1 H NMR titration, 2D NOESY and FTIR. A fluorescence monitor application was carried out based on the realization of WLE. This work might be useful for designing other WLE supramolecular systems and image display.

RESUMEN

In this work, a high-performance cathode material was achieved by using SeS2 post-functionalization of a fluorinated covalent organic framework (COF) through SNAr chemistry. The chemical and physical confinement of polysulfides and polyselenides combined with enhanced conductivity boosted its electrochemical performance as a cathode material for lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). COF-F-SeS2 delivered a discharge capacity of 1633 mA h g-1 at 0.1C, an excellent C-rate performance of 1163 mA h g-1 at 1C and favorable long cycle performance. This work provides a feasible strategy to overcome the bottlenecks of LSBs for high capacity, excellent C-rate performance and enhanced cycle performance.

RESUMEN

Sulfanilamide (SA) is an effective broad-spectrum antibacterial agent in human and veterinary medicine. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of SA on boar sperm quality during liquid storage at 17°C and determine the optimal concentration of SA and its effects on bacterial growth, microbial composition, and maternal fertility. Boar ejaculates were diluted with a basic extender, containing different concentrations of SA, and stored in a 17°C incubator for 6 days. The sperm motility, plasma membrane integrity, and acrosome integrity were measured daily. The results showed that when the concentration of SA was 0.02 g/L, the sperm quality parameters were significantly higher than those of all other treatment groups (p < .05). We also monitored the bacterial growth and compared the differences in the microbial species between the 0.02 g/L SA group and the control by 16S rDNA sequencing. The results revealed that some bacteria, such as Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas, were considerably lower in the 0.02 g/L SA group than in the control group (p < .05). In addition, preserved semen was used for artificial insemination, and results showed that 0.02 g/L SA group had a higher litter size, and its pregnancy rate was 92.5%.

RESUMEN

Purpose: N3 gastric cancer (GC) is characterized by a heavy burden of lymph node metastasis and a high postoperative recurrence rate. The role of radiotherapy in this group of patients remains undetermined. The purpose of this study was to compare the effectiveness of adjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and adjuvant chemotherapy (ChT) for N3 GC after D2/R0 resection. Patients and methods: From January 2004 to December 2015, patients with N3 GC in the database of Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center were retrospectively reviewed. The eligible patients were enrolled in an adjuvant CRT group and an adjuvant ChT group. Four different methods based on a propensity score model were used to balance the baseline characteristics. Then, survival analyses between the two groups were performed in addition to patterns of recurrence and subgroup analyses. Results: In total, 175 and 365 eligible patients were enrolled into the CRT and ChT groups, respectively. After balancing, the disease-free survival (DFS) of patients in the CRT group was significantly better than that of patients in the ChT group (p=0.021). Subgroup analyses showed that patients with N3a GC benefitted from adjuvant CRT. Conclusion: Compared with adjuvant ChT, adjuvant CRT can further improve the DFS of patients with N3 GC after D2/R0 resection. Patients with lymph node metastases should be further stratified when selecting patients for adjuvant CRT.

RESUMEN

The aggregate morphologies of 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) main chain supramolecular polymer amphiphiles (SPA) are tunable by a fine balance of different non-covalent interactions. When the BODIPY segments and sodium cholate are mixed in aqueous solution, they form SPA by electrostatic attraction and hydrogen-bonds. This SPA displays helical nanowires' morphology. After the third component dimeric ß-cyclodextrin (ß-CD-C) is added, the hydrogen bonds between the cholate are substituted by the host-guest interaction between cholate and ß-CD-C. Therefore, these SPA transform their aggregate morphologies into nanosheets' architecture. Therefore, a simple and effective way to regulate self-assembly by non-covalent forces is developed. This supramolecular method may provide an effective way to prepare various nanostructures in aqueous solution and show promising application in the future.

RESUMEN

Adding a certain amount of antioxidants to semen extender has been shown to improve semen quality. The aim of present study was to elucidate whether the supplementation of melatonin to the Tris-based extender (CTR) could enhance the quality of ram spermatozoa during storage at 4°C. Ram semen samples were collected and diluted with CTR extender containing different concentrations (0, 0.05 (M 0.05), 0.1 (M 0.1), 0.2 (M 0.2) or 0.4 (M 0.4) mM) of melatonin. Sperm routine indicators, mitochondrial activity, total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content were analysed in control and melatonin treatment groups. The higher per cent of motility, plasma membrane integrity, mitochondrial activity and T-AOC activity was observed in M 0.05, M 0.1 and M 0.2 groups compared to control group at 5 days of storage (p < 0.05), while lower percentage of MDA content was observed among these groups (p < 0.05). In addition, there were no significant differences in acrosome integrity among the control and M 0.05, M 0.1 and M 0.2 groups during the experiment. The above results show that the addition of 0.05, 0.1, 0.2 mM of melatonin is beneficial to the preservation of ram semen during liquid storage at 4°C mainly through antioxidative stress.
