RESUMEN

Cassava bacterial blight significantly affects cassava yield worldwide, while major cassava cultivars are susceptible to this disease. Therefore, it is crucial to identify cassava disease resistance gene networks and defence molecules for the genetic improvement of cassava cultivars. In this study, we found that MeHB16 transcription factor as a differentially expressed gene in cassava cultivars with contrasting disease resistance, positively modulated disease resistance by modulating defence molecule lignin accumulation. Further investigation showed that MeHB16 physically interacted with itself via the leucine-Zippe domain (L-Zip), which was necessary for the transcriptional activation of downstream lignin biosynthesis genes. In addition, protein kinase MeKIN10 directly interacted with MeHB16 to promote its phosphorylation at Ser6, which in turn enhanced MeHB16 self-association and downstream lignin biosynthesis. In summary, this study revealed the molecular network of MeKIN10-mediated MeHB16 protein phosphorylation improved cassava bacterial blight resistance by fine-tuning lignin biosynthesis and provides candidate genes and the defence molecule for improving cassava disease resistance.

Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is the leading cause of gynecologic malignant tumors. The role of necroptosis-related lncRNAs (NRLs) in OC remains unclear. This study aims to explore the association between NRLs and prognosis in OC patients. Methods: The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and GTEx datasets were used to obtain OC's data. A NRLs signature associated with overall survival (OS) was constructed by Cox-LASSO regression analysis in training cohort for calculating risk score and then validated in testing cohort. Subsequently, the area under the curve (AUC) and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were used to evaluate the predictive accuracy of the risk score. Finally, the immune infiltration and functional enrichment were compared between different risk groups. Results: A 8-NRLs signature including AC245128.3, AL355488.1, AC092794.1, AC068888.2, AL590652.1, AC008982.2, FOXP4-AS1, and Z94721.1 was identified to assess the OS of OC. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis, AUC value, and Cox regression analysis confirmed its predictive value and showed that the clinical outcomes were worse for high-risk patients. There were also differences in immunological functioning and immune pathways between the high-risk and low-risk groups. Conclusions: The signature based on eight NRLs has significant values in predicting prognostic prediction in OC, as well as providing a new sight for targeted therapies.

van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) overcoming the lattice and processing limitations of conventional heterostructures provide an opportunity to develop high-performance 2D vdWH solar cells and photodiodes. However, it is challenging to improve the sensitivity and response speed of 2D vdWH photovoltaic devices due to the low light absorption efficiency and electron/hole traps in heterointerfaces. Here, we design a PbS/MoS2/WSe2 heterostructure photodiode in which a light-sensitive PbS quantum dot (QD) layer combined with a MoS2/WSe2 heterostructure significantly enhances the photovoltaic response. The electron current in the heterostructure is increased by the effective collection of photogenerated electrons induced by PbS QDs. The device exhibits a broadband photovoltaic response from 405 to 1064 nm with a maximum responsivity of 0.76 A/W and a specific detectivity of 5.15 × 1011 Jones. In particular, the response speed is not limited by multiple electron traps in the PbS QDs/2D material heterointerface, and a fast rising/decaying time of 43/48 µs and a -3 dB cutoff frequency of over 10 kHz are achieved. The negative differential capacitance and frequency dependence of capacitance demonstrate the presence of interface states in the MoS2/WSe2 heterointerface that hamper the improvement of the response speed. The scheme to enhance photovoltaic performance without sacrificing response speed provides opportunities for the development of high-performance 2D vdWH optoelectronic devices.

Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures can combine properties of individual materials to enable high-performance photodetection. Here, a novel ReS2/graphene/WSe2heterostructure, prepared by dry transfer, demonstrates air-stable, high-performance, polarization-sensitive, and broadband photodetection. Dark current can be strongly suppressed by the built-in electric field of the heterostructure. The specific detectivities are up to 1010Jones and 109Jones under zero and reverse bias, respectively. Response time is on the order of a millisecond. The polarization-sensitive photodetection has been observed in the heterostructure due to the low lattice symmetry of ReS2. Broadband photoresponse from visible to infrared range has been demonstrated. A high photoresponsivity of 1.02 A W-1is achieved for illumination at the wavelength of 785 nm. This work provides a viable approach toward future high-performance, air-stable, and polarization-sensitive broadband photodetectors.

People often use concrete spatial terms to represent abstract time. Previous studies have shown that mental timeline (MTL) is represented along a horizontal axis. Studies of the mental timeline have demonstrated that compared with English speakers, Mandarin speakers are more likely to think about time vertically (up-down) than horizontally (left-right/front-back). Prior studies have suggested that MTL in the up and down dimensions originated from temporal-spatial metaphors in language. However, there are still a large number of perceptual experiences in the up and down dimensions, such as visual and sensorimotor experience. Then does the visual experience in daily life affect the MTL in the vertical dimension? This study is aimed to investigate whether visual experience can promote or activate the opposite direction of MTL from implicit and explicit levels. The results showed that when the time information in the task was not prominent, the direction of vertical MTL cannot be affected by ascending or descending perceptual experience. While when the time information was prominent, whether the task was implicit or explicit, compared with the control group, watching the top-down scene significantly increased the top-down direction selection, while in the implicit task, watching the bottom-up scene made the top-down MTL disappear. To the best of our knowledge, our study provides the first evidence that the flexibility of space-time associations in vertical dimension extends beyond explicit and embraces even implicit levels. This study shows that the vertical MTL is activated in certain conditions and could be affected by the visual experience.

The results of studies on the relationship between cytokine polymorphisms and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have been controversial. This meta-analysis was thus designed to more precisely assess the relationship between TNF-α/IL-1/IL-6/IL-10 polymorphisms and PCOS by pooling the results of published studies. A search of PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CNKI databases turned up 23 studies that were pooled and analyzed in this meta-analysis. The overall results showed that the distributions of TNF-α -238 G/A, TNF-α -857 C/T, and IL-1B -51 C/T polymorphisms among patients and controls differed significantly. Additionally, the distributions of TNF-α -308 G/A and IL-1B -51 C/T polymorphisms among patients and controls from Asian populations differed significantly, whereas the distributions of IL-6 -174 G/C and IL-1A -889 C/T polymorphisms among patients and controls from Caucasian populations also differed significantly. In conclusion, our meta-analysis demonstrated that TNF-α -238 G/A, TNF-α -857 C/T, and IL-1B -51 C/T polymorphisms might influence susceptibility to PCOS in the overall pooled population. Moreover, TNF-α -308 G/A and IL-1B -51 C/T polymorphisms might influence susceptibility to PCOS in Asians, whereas IL-6 -174 G/C and IL-1A -889 C/T polymorphisms might influence susceptibility to PCOS in Caucasians.
