BACKGROUND: Hydatidiform mole (HM), a subset of gestational trophoblastic disease, is considered precancerous and exhibits geographical variation. The incidence of HM is linked to nutritional factors. This study aimed to investigate the causal relationship between nutrients and HM using a bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. METHODS: We utilized publicly available genome-wide association study data to assess the causal associations between levels of specific vitamins (retinol, vitamins B12, B6, C, D, E, folate, and carotene) and minerals (iron, calcium, and magnesium) with HM. The MR analysis was conducted and reported following the STROBE-MR guidelines, employing MR Egger and inverse variance weighted (IVW) methods to estimate associations, with MR-PRESSO for pleiotropy testing. RESULTS: The study revealed vitamin B6 as a significant protective factor against HM (MR-Egger OR: 0.094, 95 % CI: 0.011-0.0778, P < 0.05; IVW OR: 0.365, 95 % CI: 0.142-0.936, P < 0.05). Folate and magnesium showed suggestive associations with HM, whereas most other nutrients did not exhibit a causal relationship. MR-PRESSO analysis supported the absence of horizontal pleiotropy of vitamin B6. Besides, reverse MR analysis did not reveal a significant causal association between HM and serum nutrient levels, suggesting that differences of nutrients in HM patients may not be directly attributed to the mole. CONCLUSION: This MR study provides evidence that vitamin B6 may protect against HM, and suggests potential roles for folate and magnesium in HM development, while highlighting the need for further research to confirm these findings.

Lacking of adequate knowledge is an obstacle to effective prevention of cervical cancer, yet factors that affect the information acquisition and seeking behavior as well as the information communication process are not well studied. We assessed information acquisition and seeking behavior, as well as perceived barriers of doctor-patient communication regarding human papilloma virus (HPV)-related information of infected women. Among 437 participants, 405 (93%) expressed demands for HPV-related information, while only a small proportion (100/437, 22.9%) actively sought information and felt obstacles comprehending. Web-based channels were most frequently utilized and medical personnel were the most trusted information source. Patients' satisfaction was significantly correlated with doctor's patience (r = 0.581, p < 0.001) and emotional caring (r = 0.555, p < 0.001). Compared to patients not actively seeking information, those actively seeking information were more likely to be single (p = 0.005), had higher education (p = 0.009) and monthly individual-level income (p = 0.023), and was more likely to undergo regular cervical cancer screening (p = 0.003), and were already or willing to be vaccinated (p = 0.008). The actively seeking information group also achieved higher scores in HPV knowledge test (p = 0.007). Public health interventions targeting HPV-infected women using specifically designed educational materials may influence information seeking behavior, increase HPV literacy and knowledge, which could potentially increase HPV vaccine uptake and cervical cancer screening rate.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) on the pregnancy outcome of infertility assisted by IVF/Micro-Insemination/Embryo Transfer Infertility Assistance (IVF/ICSI-ET). A total of 324 patients under the age of 35 who received IVF/ICSI-ET assistance in our center were included in this analysis. AMH levels of these patients were measured by chemiluminescence method and divided into clinical pregnancy group (175 cases) and non-pregnancy group (149 cases) according to the final pregnancy outcome. The relationship between the two groups' pregnancy outcomes and AMH levels was analyzed. The above association was re-evaluated after excluding patients with polycystic ovary syndrome. There was no significant difference in age, body mass index (BMI), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and 2 pronucleus (PN) between clinical and non-clinical pregnancy groups. Compared with the clinical pregnancy group, the level of AMH in the non-pregnancy group was significantly lower (p < 0.05). A higher AMH level was closely related to better IVF/ICSI-ET assisted pregnancy outcome in vitro. After excluding AMH abnormalities, the AMH level was still significantly associated with pregnancy outcomes of in vitro IVF/ICSI-ET-assisted pregnancy. Our results show a correlation between AMH level and pregnancy outcome of in vitro IVF/ICSI-ET assisted pregnancy. For women under age 35, lower AMH levels may be one of the predictors of adverse pregnancy outcomes. For patients with low AMH level, it is suggested to strengthen monitoring to ensure the safety and smoothness of the pregnancy process.
