RESUMEN

ABSTRACT: Schwannoma is a benign tumor originating from Schwann cells. It commonly occurs in the head, neck, and extremities, but rarely occurs in the trachea. Tracheal schwannoma is usually asymptomatic. We reported the 18F-FDG PET/CT findings of a 61-year-old man with bronchoscopically biopsy-proven schwannoma, which presented challenges in differentiation from certain benign tumors and low-grade malignancies in the trachea.

RESUMEN

Designing antibacterial agents with rapid bacterial eradication performance is paramount for the treatment of bacteria-infected wounds. Metal nanoclusters (NCs) with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) have been considered as novel photodynamic antibacterial agents without drug resistance, but they suffer from poor photostability and low charge carrier separation efficiency. Herein, we report the design of a photodynamic antibacterial agent by encapsulating AIE-type AgAu NCs (Ag28Au1 NCs) into a zeolitic Zn(2-methylimidazole)2 framework (ZIF-8). The encapsulation of AIE-type Ag28Au1 NCs into porous ZIF-8 could not only enhance the photostability of Ag28Au1 NCs by inhibiting their aggregation but also promote the separation of photoinduced charge carriers, resulting in the rapid generation of destructive reactive oxygen species (ROS) for bacterial killing under visible-light irradiation. Consequently, the as-designed photodynamic Ag28Au1 NCs@ZIF-8 antibacterial agent could rapidly eliminate 97.7% of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and 91.6% of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) within 5 min in vitro under visible light irradiation. Furthermore, in vivo experimental results have highlighted the synergistic effect created by AIE-type Ag28Au1 NCs and ZIF-8, enabling Ag28Au1 NCs@ZIF-8 to effectively eradicate bacteria in infected areas, reduce inflammation, and promote the generation of blood vessels, epithelial tissue, and collagen. This synergistic effect promoted the healing of S. aureus-infected wound, with nearly 100% of wound recovery within 11 days. This work may be interesting because it sheds light on the design of metal NC-based photodynamic nanomedicine for bacteria-infected disease treatment.

RESUMEN

A novel fluorimetric ratiometric probe of green and eco-friendily nitrogen-enriched, oxygen-doped carbon nanodots (Cnanodots) was prepared for the quantitative analysis of mercury(II) (HgII) and nitrofurantoin (Nit) in the environmental sewage. The Cnanodots exhibits dual-emission peaks respectively at 345 and 445 nm under 285 nm excitation, with excitation-independent properties. Unexpectedly, this Cnanodots displays two obvious ratiometric responses to HgII and Nit through decreasing the signal at 345 nm and remaining invariable at 445 nm. Experimental results confirm that the highly sensitive analysis of HgII and Nit are achieved respectively based on matching energy-level electron transfer and inner filter effect mechanisms. The fluorescence (FL) ratiometric intensity of [FL345nm/FL445nm] expresses a good linear relationship with the concentration of HgII in the scope of 0.01-20 µM, while the logarithm of [Log(FL0345nm-FL345nm)] on the quenching degree of the probe by Nit also shows a good linear correlation within the range of 0.01-100 µM. The detection limits were calculated to be 4.14 nM for HgII, and 7.84 nM for Nit. Moreover, recovery experiments of Cnanodots for HgII and Nit sensing in real sewage samples obtained satisfactory results, comfirming the feasibility of practical application.

RESUMEN

Diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-based polymer semiconductors have drawn great attention in the field of organic electronics due to the planar structure, decent solubilizing capability, and high crystallinity. However, the electron-deficient capacity of DPP derivatives are not strong enough, leading to relatively high-lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels of the corresponding polymers. As a result, n-type and ambipolar DPP-based polymers are rare and their electron mobilities also lag far behind the p-type counterparts, which limits the development of important p-n-junction-based electronic devices. Therefore, new design strategies have been proposed recent years to develop n-type/ambipolar DPP-based polymers with improved performances. In this view, these molecular design strategies are summarized, including copolymerization of DPP with different acceptors and weak donors, DPP flanked aromatic ring modification, DPP-core ring expansion and DPP dimerization. The relationship between the chemical structures and organic thin-film transistor performances is intensively discussed. Finally, a perspective on future trends in the molecular design of DPP-based n-type/ambipolar polymers is also proposed.

RESUMEN

Thyroid-like follicular renal cell carcinoma (TLFRCC), also known as thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney or thyroid follicular carcinoma like renal tumor, is an exceedingly rare variant of renal cell carcinoma that has only recently been acknowledged. This neoplasm exhibits a distinct follicular morphology resembling that of the thyroid gland. Immunohistochemical analysis reveals positive expression of PAX8, Vimentin, and EMA, while thyroid-specific markers TG and TTF1 are consistently absent. Furthermore, there is a notable absence of any concurrent thyroid pathology on clinical evaluation. Previous reports have suggested that TLFRCC is an indolent, slow-growing malignancy with infrequent metastatic potential. In this report, we present a case of TLFRCC characterized by remarkable ossification and widespread metastasis, including multifocal pulmonary lesions, involvement of the abdominal wall, and infiltration into the psoas muscle. To our knowledge, this represents only the third documented instance of distant metastasis in thyroid follicular renal carcinoma. The current case demonstrates a therapeutic approach that combines radiotherapy with the utilization of toripalimab, a programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) receptor inhibitor, and pazopanib. This treatment regimen was tailored based on comprehensive genomic profiling, which identified mutations in the POLE (catalytic subunit of DNA polymerase epsilon) and ATM (ataxia-telangiectasia mutated) genes, both of which have been implicated in the pathogenesis of various malignant tumors. These findings represent a novel discovery, as such mutations have never been reported in association with TLFRCC. Thus far, this therapeutic approach has proven to be the most efficacious option for treating metastatic TLFRCC among previously reported, and it also marks the first mention of the potential benefits of radiotherapy in managing this particular subtype of renal cell carcinoma.

RESUMEN

A new class of three-charge (0, -1, -2) ligand-based binuclear and mononuclear iridium complexes bearing benzo[d]oxazole-2-thiol ligand have been synthesized. Notably, the binuclear complexes (IrIr1 and IrIr2) can be generated at low temperatures by reacting the iridium complex precursors (2a and 2b) with equal amounts of the benzo[d]oxazole-2-thiol ligands, while the corresponding mononuclear complexes (Ir1 and Ir2) are formed at high temperatures. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the benzo[d]oxazole-2-thiol ligand plays an unusual and interesting bridging role in binuclear complexes and induces rich intermolecular and intramolecular interactions, while in mononuclear complexes, it forms an interesting four-membered ring coordination. More importantly, all complexes experienced efficient deep-red emission in the 628-674 nm range, and the mononuclear complexes have higher luminescent efficiency and longer excited state lifetime than the binuclear complexes. As a result, organic light-emitting diode devices incorporating two mononuclear complexes (Ir1 and Ir2) as guest material of the light-emitting layer can obtain good maximum external quantum efficiency (3.5% and 5.5%) in the deep-red region (629 and 632 nm) with CIE coordinates (0.61, 0.33) and (0.62, 0.34), along with a low turn-on voltage (2.8 V).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Few studies have investigated the feasibility of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) using a free-breathing golden-angle radial stack-of-stars volume-interpolated breath-hold examination (FB radial VIBE) sequence in the lung. PURPOSE: To investigate whether DCE-MRI using the FB radial VIBE sequence can assess morphological and kinetic parameters in patients with pulmonary lesions, with computed tomography (CT) as the reference. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In total, 43 patients (30 men; mean age = 64 years) with one lesion each were prospectively enrolled. Morphological and kinetic features on MRI were calculated. The diagnostic performance of morphological MR features was evaluated using a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Kinetic features were compared among subgroups based on histopathological subtype, lesion size, and lymph node metastasis. RESULTS: The maximum diameter was not significantly different between CT and MRI (3.66 ± 1.62 cm vs. 3.64 ± 1.72 cm; P = 0.663). Spiculation, lobulation, cavitation or bubble-like areas of low attenuation, and lymph node enlargement had an area under the ROC curve (AUC) >0.9, while pleural indentation yielded an AUC of 0.788. The lung cancer group had significantly lower Ktrans, Ve, and initial AUC values than the other cause inflammation group (0.203, 0.158, and 0.589 vs. 0.597, 0.385, and 1.626; P < 0.05) but significantly higher values than the tuberculosis group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Morphology features derived from FB radial VIBE have high correlations with CT, and kinetic analyses show significant differences between benign and malignant lesions. DCE-MRI with FB radial VIBE could serve as a complementary quantification tool to CT for radiation-free assessments of lung lesions.

RESUMEN

Introduction: In order to enhance the effectiveness of resource allocation, regions must tailor their responses to their specific epidemiological and economic situations. Methods: Utilizing Spectrum software, we projected the cost-effectiveness of 10 chosen HIV interventions in six cities in eastern China from 2019 to 2028. We assessed three scenarios - Base, Achievable, and Idealized - for each city. The analysis included the projected number of HIV infections and deaths averted, as well as the incremental cost-effectiveness ratios for each intervention in the six cities. Results: In Shijiazhuang, Wuxi, Yantai, and Zhenjiang, cities with initially low antiretroviral therapy (ART) coverage, ART showed significant effectiveness, especially for males. Conversely, in Foshan and Ningbo, where ART coverage was notably high, oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for men who have sex with men (MSM) proved effective in the Idealized scenario. MSM outreach, ART for males, and ART for females demonstrated cost-effectiveness across all six cities in both Achievable and Idealized scenarios at the predefined thresholds for each city. Discussion: Maintaining an appropriate coverage rate for outreach to MSM can lead to cost-effectiveness. In cities with low ART coverage, scaling up ART remains a crucial intervention. In regions with high ART coverage, consideration may be given to the utilization of oral PrEP for MSM individuals, requiring budget allocation.

RESUMEN

Plant-derived PA10T is regarded as one of the most promising semi-aromatic polyamides; however, shortcomings, including low dimensional accuracy, high moisture absorption, and relatively high dielectric constant and loss, have impeded its extensive utilization. Polymer blending is a versatile and cost-effective method to fabricate new polymeric materials with excellent comprehensive performance. In this study, various ratios of PA10T/PPO blends were fabricated via melt blending with the addition of a SEBS-g-MAH compatibilizer. Molau test and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to study the influence of SEBS-g-MAH on the compatibility of PA10T and PPO. These studies indicated that SEBS-g-MAH effectively refines the domain size of the dispersed PPO phase and improves the dispersion stability of PPO particles within a hexafluoroisopropanol solvent. This result was attributed to the in situ formation of the SEBS-g-PA10T copolymer, which serves as a compatibilizer. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) results showed that the melting-crystallization behavior and thermal stability of blends closely resembled that of pure PA10T. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) revealed that as the PPO content increased, there was a decrease in the glass transition temperature and storage modulus of PA10T. The water absorption rate, injection molding shrinkage, dielectric properties, and mechanical strength of blends were also systematically investigated. As the PPO content increased from 10% to 40%, the dielectric loss at 2.5 GHz decreased significantly from 0.00866 to 0.00572, while the notched Izod impact strength increased from 7.9 kJ/m2 to 13.7 kJ/m2.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To explore the feasibility of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) in regenerative endodontics by comparing the effect of i-PRF and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on the biological behavior and angiogenesis of human stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs). METHODOLOGY: i-PRF and PRF were obtained from venous blood by two different centrifugation methods, followed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was conducted to quantify the growth factors. SCAPs were cultured with different concentrations of i-PRF extract (i-PRFe) and PRF extract (PRFe), and the optimal concentrations were selected using the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assay. The cell proliferation and migration potentials of SCAPs were then observed using the CCK-8 and Transwell assays. Mineralization ability was detected by alizarin red staining (ARS), and angiogenesis ability was detected by tube formation assay. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was performed to evaluate the expression of genes related to mineralization and angiogenesis. The data were subjected to statistical analysis. RESULTS: i-PRF and PRF showed a similar three-dimensional fibrin structure, while i-PRF released a higher concentration of growth factors than PRF ( P <.05). 1/4× i-PRFe and 1/4× PRFe were selected as the optimal concentrations. The cell proliferation rate of the i-PRFe group was higher than that of the PRFe group ( P <.05), while no statistical difference was observed between them in terms of cell mitigation ( P >.05). More importantly, our results showed that i-PRFe had a stronger effect on SCAPs than PRFe in facilitating mineralization and angiogenesis, with the consistent result of RT-qPCR ( P <.05). CONCLUSION: This study revealed that i-PRF released a higher concentration of growth factors and was superior to PRF in promoting proliferation, mineralization and angiogenesis of SCAPs, which indicates that i-PRF could be a promising biological scaffold for application in pulp regeneration.

RESUMEN

Strain S30A2T, isolated from the acid mine drainage sediment of Mengzi Copper Mine, Yunnan, is proposed to represent a novel species of the sulphur-oxidizing genus Acidithiobacillus. Cells were Gram-stain-negative, non-endospore forming, highly motile with one or two monopolar flagella and rod-shaped. The strain was mesophilic, growing at 30-50 °C (optimum, 38 °C), acidophilic, growing at pH 2.0-4.5 (optimum, pH 2.5), and tolerant of 0-4 % (w/v; 684 mol l-1) NaCl. The 16S rRNA gene-based sequence analysis showed that strain S30A2T belongs to the genus Acidithiobacillus and shows the largest similarity of 96.6 % to the type strain Acidithiobacillus caldus KUT. The genomic DNA G+C content of strain S30A2T was 59.25 mol%. The average nucleotide identity ANIb and ANIm values between strain S30A2T and A. caldus KUT were 70.95 and 89.78 %, respectively and the digital DNA-DNA hybridization value was 24.9 %. Strain S30A2T was strictly aerobic and could utilize elementary sulphur and tetrathionate to support chemolithotrophic growth. The major cellular fatty acid of S30A2T was C19 : 1ω7c. The respiratory quinones were ubiquinone-8 and ubiquinone-7. Based upon its phylogenetic, genetic, phenotypic, physiologic and chemotaxonomic characteristics, strain S30A2T is considered to represent a novel species of the genus Acidithiobacillus, for which the name Acidithiobacillus acidisediminis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is S30A2T (=CGMCC 1.17059T=KCTC 72580T).

RESUMEN

Diniconazole is a chiral pesticide that exists in two enantiomers, R-(-)-diniconazole and S-(+)-diniconazole, with the R-enantiomer being much more active than the S-enantiomer. Previous enantioselective toxicology studies of diniconazole focused mostly on simple environmental model organisms. In this study, we evaluated the toxicokinetics of the two diniconazole enantiomers in rats and mice to provide a more comprehensive risk assessment. The two enantiomers displayed clear differences in their stereoselective contents in vivo. The t1/2 of R-(-)-diniconazole was 7.06 ± 3.35 h, whereas that of S-(+)-diniconazole was 9.14 ± 4.60 h, indicating that R-(-)-diniconazole was eliminated faster in vivo. The excretion rates of R-(-)-diniconazole and S-(+)-diniconazole were 4.08 ± 0.50 % and 2.68 ± 0.58 %, respectively, indicating more excretion of R-(-)-diniconazole. S-(+)-diniconazole had a higher bioavailability than R-(-)-diniconazole (52.19 % vs. 42.44 %). S-(+)-Diniconazole was also found in relatively high abundance in tissues such as the stomach, large intestine, small intestine, cecum, liver, kidney, brain, and testes, with the abundance being 1.71-2.48-fold that of R-(-)-diniconazole. The selective degradation of both enantiomers in the tissues and their mutual conversion in vivo were not observed, and this could indicate that configuration conversion did not contribute to the differences in the content of enantiomers in the tissues. Instead, such differences were mainly caused by the differences in affinity of each enantiomer for the tissues. Furthermore, investigation of the interconversion between optically pure R-(-)-diniconazole and S-(+)-diniconazole monomers in soil revealed no interconversion. All of the above results indicated no interconversion between R-(-)-diniconazole and S-(+)-diniconazole in vivo and in the soil, and that S-(+)-diniconazole tends to have a greater potential to accumulate in vivo. Thus, if only R-(-)-diniconazole is used as a pesticide, the negative impact on mammals and the environment will be reduced, suggesting that in agriculture, the application of optically pure R-(-)-diniconazole may be a better strategy.

RESUMEN

Recently, many topological materials have been discovered as promising electrocatalysts in chemical conversion processes and energy storage. However, it remains unclear how the topological electronic states specifically modulate the catalytic reaction. Here, the two-dimensional metal phthalocyanine-based covalent organic framework (MPc-COF) is studied by ab initio thermodynamic calculations to clearly reveal the promotional effect on the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) induced by topological gapless bands (TGBs). We find that the prehydrogenated (and fluorinated) H4CdPc-COF(F) shows the best HER performance, with 0.016 V (near zero) overpotential. By tracking changes to the electronic structure and free energy as the prehydrogenation and HER processes occur, we are able to separately attribute the high HER efficiency in part due to the increase of the electron bath by donating electrons to the conjugated π bonds and also to the existence of TGBs. Specifically, the significant catalytic promotion by TGBs is proven to decrease the free energy by 0.218 eV to near zero. When the TGBs are destroyed, e.g., by replacing N with P and opening a band gap, the HER efficiency is reduced. This study opens avenues for deterministically harnessing topological band features to improve electrocatalysis.

RESUMEN

Tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl (TTM) group has been widely used for constructing organic radicals, but the poor optical stabilities limit the application prospects of the TTM radicals. In this work, the rigid B- and N-embedded dioxygen-bridged (BO and NO) units were attached to the TTM skeleton as the strong electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups, respectively. The rigidity and strong electronic effect of the BO and NO units contribute to the high chemical and optical stability of BO-TTM and NO-TTM radicals. Notably, NO-TTM exhibits near-infrared emission at 830 nm with a narrow full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 55 nm (100 meV), while BO-TTM shows blue-shifted luminescence at 635 nm and a narrower FWHM of merely 43 nm (130 meV). This study has developed a methodology to produce highly efficient and enduring luminescent radicals, which could tune emission properties such as wavelength and FWHM.

RESUMEN

Helicid (HEL) has been found to possess antidepressant pharmacological activity. The paper was to testify to the precise molecular mechanism through which HEL regulates lncRNA-NONRATT030918.2 to exert an antidepressant impression in depression models. A depression model stimulated using chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) was created in rats, and the depressive state of the rats was assessed through behavioral experiments. Additionally, an in vitro model of PC12 cells induced by corticosterone (CORT) was established, and cytoactive was tested using the CCK8. The subcellular localization of the NONRATT030918.2 molecule was confirmed through a fluorescence in situ hybridization experiment. The relationship between NONRATT030918.2, miRNA-128-3p, and Prim1 was analyzed using dual-luciferase reporter gene assay, RNA Binding Protein Immunoprecipitation assay, and RNA pull-down assay. The levels of NONRATT030918.2, miRNA-128-3p, and Prim1 were tested using Q-PCR. Furthermore, the levels of Prim1, Bax, Bcl-2, and caspase3 were checked through Western blot. The HEL can alleviate the depression-like behavior of CUMS rats (P < 0.05), and reduce the mortality of hippocampal via downregulating the level of NONRATT030918.2 (P < 0.05). In CORT-induced PC12 cells, intervention with HEL led to decreased expression of NONRATT030918.2 and Prim1 (P < 0.05), as well as increased expression of miRNA-128-3p (P < 0.05). This suggests that HEL regulates the expression of NONRATT030918.2 to upregulate miRNA-128-3p (P < 0.05), which in turn inhibits CORT-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells by targeting Prim1 (P < 0.05). The NONRATT030918.2/miRNA-128-3p/Prim1 axis could potentially serve as a crucial regulatory network for HEL to exert its neuroprotective effects.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Brachial plexus injury is recognized as one of the most severe clinical challenges due to the complex anatomical configuration of the brachial plexus and its propensity for variation, which complicates safe clinical interventions. This study aimed to ascertain the prevalence and characterize the types of brachial plexus variations, and to elucidate their clinical implications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted meticulous dissections of 60 formalin-fixed cadavers' upper arm, axilla and lower neck to reveal and assess the roots, trunks, divisions, cords, and branches of the brachial plexus. The pattern of branching was noted by groups of dissecting medical students and confirmed by the senior anatomists. The variations discovered were record and photographed using a digital camera for further analysis. RESULTS: Variations in the brachial plexus were identified in 40 of the 60 cadavers, yielding a prevalence rate of 66.7%. These variations were classified into root anomalies (2.1%), trunk anomalies (8.5%), division anomalies (2.1%), and cord anomalies (4.3%). Notably, anomalies in communicating branches were observed in 39 cadavers (83.0%): 14 with bilateral anomalies, 14 with anomalies on the left side, and 11 on the right side. These communicating branches formed connections between the roots and other segments, including trunks, cords, and terminal nerves, and involved the median, musculocutaneous, and ulnar nerves. CONCLUSION: The frequency and diversity of brachial plexus variations, particularly in communicating branches, are significant in cadavers. It is imperative that these variations are carefully considered during the diagnostic process, treatment planning, and prior to procedures such as supraclavicular brachial plexus blocks and nerve transfers, to mitigate the risk of iatrogenic complications.

RESUMEN

A novel acidophilic, aerobic bacterium strain, MYW30-H2T, was isolated from a heap of polymetallic mine. Cells of strain MYW30-H2T were Gram-stain-positive, endospore-forming, motile, and rod-shaped. Strain MYW30-H2T grew at a temperature range of 30-45 °C (optimum 40 °C) and a pH range of 3.5-6.0 (optimum 4.0) in the presence of 0-0.5% (w/v) NaCl. Strain MYW30-H2T could grow heterotrophically on yeast extract and glucose, and grow mixotrophically using ferrous iron as an electron donor with yeast extract. Menaquinone-7 (MK-7) was the sole respiratory quinone of the strain. Iso-C15:0 and anteiso-C15:0 were the major cellular fatty acids. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that MYW30-H2T was phylogenetically affiliated with the family Alicyclobacillaceae, and the sequence similarity with other Alicyclobacillaceae genera species was below 91.51%. The average amino acid identity value of the strain with its phylogenetically related species was 52.3-62.1%, which fell into the genus boundary range. The DNA G+C content of the strain was 44.2%. Based on physiological and phylogenetic analyses, strain MYW30-H2T represents a novel species of a new genus of the family Alicyclobacillaceae, for which the name Fodinisporobacter ferrooxydans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is MYW30-H2T (=CGMCC 1.17422T = KCTC 43278T).

RESUMEN

The applications of organic-amine desulfurization have steadily increased owing to its high efficiency, low cost, and low energy consumption. Different proportions of organic amines exert different effects on sulfur dioxide removal. Therefore, the accurate determination of different organic amines in the desulfurization solution is of great importance. The ion-chromatographic method for the detection of organic amines does not require a derivatization step, has simple pretreatment procedures, and allows for the simultaneous determination of many types of organic amines. In this study, a method based on ion chromatography was developed for the simultaneous determination of ethanolamine (MEA), diethylethanolamine (DEEA), n-methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), hydroxyethylethylenediamine (AEEA), piperazine (PZ), n-hydroxyethylpiperazine (HEPZ), and diethylenetriamine (DETA). The separation efficiency of the eight organic amines in different types of columns, leaching solutions, and column temperatures were compared. The determination was performed using an IonPac CS17 column with column temperature of 35 ℃ and gradient leaching with methyl sulfonic acid (MSA) solution via the inhibition conductance method. Samples of the desulfurization solution were analyzed using ultrapure water filtered through a 0.22 µm nylon microporous filter membrane and an OnGuard Ⅱ RP column; thus, the pretreatment steps are simple. The eight organic amines showed a good linear relationship within a certain concentration range, and the coefficient of determinations (R2) were greater than 0.998. The limits of detection (LODs) and quantification (LOQs) were determined from the mass concentrations of the organic amines corresponding to signal-to-noise ratios (S/N) of 3 and 10, respectively. LODs of 0.02-0.08 mg/L and LOQs of 0.07-0.27 mg/L were determined from a 1.0 µL sample injection. The actual recoveries ranged from 93.0% to 111%, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs, n=5) ranged from 0.31% to 1.2%. The results indicated that the proposed method has good accuracy and precision; thus, it is suitable for the determination of various organic amines in desulfurization solution.

RESUMEN

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) and ferroptosis show significant potential in tumor treatment. However, their therapeutic efficacy is often hindered by the oxygen-deficient tumor microenvironment and the challenges associated with efficient intracellular drug delivery into tumor cells. Toward this end, this work synthesized perfluorocarbon (PFC)-modified Pluronic F127 (PFC-F127), and then exploits it as a carrier for codelivery of photosensitizer Chlorin e6 (Ce6) and the ferroptosis promoter sorafenib (Sor), yielding an oxygen self-supplying nanoplatform denoted as Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127. The PFCs on the surface of the micelle play a crucial role in efficiently solubilizing and delivering oxygen as well as increasing the hydrophobicity of the micelle surface, giving rise to enhanced endocytosis by cancer cells. The incorporation of an oxygen-carrying moiety into the micelles enhances the therapeutic impact of PDT and ferroptosis, leading to amplified endocytosis and cytotoxicity of tumor cells. Hypotonic saline technology was developed to enhance the cargo encapsulation efficiency. Notably, in a murine tumor model, Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127 effectively inhibited tumor growth through the combined use of oxygen-enhanced PDT and ferroptosis. Taken together, this work underscores the promising potential of Ce6-Sor@PFC-F127 as a multifunctional therapeutic nanoplatform for the codelivery of multiple cargos such as oxygen, photosensitizers, and ferroptosis inducers.

RESUMEN

Constructing soft robotics with safe human-machine interactions requires low-modulus, high-power-density artificial muscles that are sensitive to gentle stimuli. In addition, the ability to resist crack propagation during long-term actuation cycles is essential for a long service life. Herein, a material design is proposed to combine all these desirable attributes in a single artificial muscle platform. The design involves the molecular engineering of a liquid crystalline network with crystallizable segments and an ethylene glycol flexible spacer. A high degree of crystallinity can be afforded by utilizing aza-Michael chemistry to produce a low covalent crosslinking density, resulting in crack-insensitivity with a high fracture energy of 33 720 J m-2 and a high fatigue threshold of 2250 J m-2. Such crack-resistant artificial muscle with tissue-matched modulus of 0.7 MPa can generate a high power density of 450 W kg-1 at a low temperature of 40 °C. Notably, because of the presence of crystalline domains in the actuated state, no crack propagation is observed after 500 heating-cooling actuation cycles under a static load of 220 kPa. This study points to a pathway for the creation of artificial muscles merging seemingly disparate, but desirable properties, broadening their application potential in smart devices.
