RESUMEN

Fish health, growth and disease is intricately linked to its associated microbiome. Understanding the influence, source and ultimately managing the microbiome, particularly for vulnerable early life-stages, has been identified as one of the key requirements to improving farmed fish production. One tropical fish species of aquaculture importance farmed throughout the Asia-Pacific region is the giant grouper (Epinephelus lanceolatus). Variability in the health and survival of E. lanceolatus larvae is partially dependent on exposure to and development of its early microbiome. Here, we examined the development in the microbiome of commercially reared giant grouper larvae, its surrounding environment, and that from live food sources to understand the type of bacterial species larvae are exposed to, and where some of the sources of bacteria may originate. We show that species richness and microbial diversity of the larval microbiome significantly increased in the first 4 days after hatching, with the community composition continuing to shift over the initial 10 days in the hatchery facility. The dominant larval bacterial taxa appeared to be predominantly derived from live cultured microalgae and rotifer feeds and included Marixanthomonas, Candidatus Hepatincola, Meridianimaribacter and Vibrio. In contrast, a commercial probiotic added as part of the hatchery's operating procedure failed to establish in the larvae microbiome. Microbial source tracking indicated that feed was the largest influence on the composition of the giant grouper larvae microbiome (up to 55.9%), supporting attempts to modulate fish microbiomes in commercial hatcheries through improved diets. The marked abundances of Vibrio (up to 21.7% of 16S rRNA gene copies in larvae) highlights a need for rigorous quality control of feed material.

Many active materials, such as bacteria and cells, are deformable. Deformability significantly affects their collective behaviors and movements in complex environments. Here, we introduce a two-dimensional deformable active vesicle (DAV) model to emulate cell-like deformable active matter, wherein the deformability can be continuously adjusted. We find that changes in deformability can induce phase separation of DAVs. The system can transition between a homogeneous gas state, a coexistence of gas and liquid, and a coexistence of gas and solid. The occurrence of deformation-induced phase separation is accompanied by nonmonotonic changes in effective concentration, particle size and shape. Moreover, the degree of deformability also impacts the motility and stress within the dense phase following phase separation. Our results offer new insights into the role of deformability in the collective behavior of active matter.

Background: The prediction of response to immunotherapy mostly depends on the programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunohistochemistry (IHC) status, and the 22C3 pharmDx assay has been approved in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). However, the widespread use of the 22C3 pharmDx assay is limited due to its availability. Thus, alternative PD-L1 assays are needed. We aimed to investigate the analytical and clinical diagnostic performances of four PD-L1 assays and to compare their concordances with the 22C3 pharmDx assay. Methods: The PD-L1 22C3 pharmDx assay was performed on the Dako Autostainer Link 48 platform, three testing assays (PD-L1 E1L3N XP antibody [Ab], PD-L1 BP6099 Ab and PD-L1 CST E1L3N Ab) on the Leica BOND-MAX/III platform, and one testing assay (PD-L1 MXR006 Ab) on the Roche VENTANA Benchmark Ultra platform. A total of 218 ESCC cases from four centers were included in this retrospective study. Professionals from each center stained and read the IHC slides independently and determined the combined positive score (CPS) and the tumor proportion score (TPS). Results: Regarding analytical performance, the four testing assays demonstrated good correlations with the 22C3 pharmDx assay when evaluated by the TPS or CPS (ρ > 0.8 for all four assays). Regarding diagnostic performance (CPS ≥ 10 was used as the cutoff), the four testing assays showed moderate concordances with the 22C3 pharmDx assay (kappa > 0.7 for all four assays). The overall percent agreements between each testing assay and the 22C3 pharmDx assay was at least 87.2 %. Conclusion: This study provides insight into the potential interchangeability of the four PD-L1 assays with the 22C3 pharmDx assay.

Dysfunction of group II innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) plays an important role in the development of type II inflammation-related diseases such as asthma and pulmonary fibrosis. Notably, neural signals are increasingly recognized as pivotal regulators of ILC2s. However, how ILC2s intrinsically modulate their responsiveness to these neural signals is still largely unknown. Here, using single-cell RNA sequencing, we found that the immune regulatory molecule PAC1 (phosphatase of activated cells 1) selectively promotes the signaling of neuropeptide CGRP (calcitonin gene-related peptide) in ILC2s through a cell-intrinsic manner. Genetic ablation of PAC1 in ILC2s substantially impaired the inhibitory effect of CGRP on proliferation and IL-13 secretion. PAC1 deficiency significantly exacerbated allergic airway inflammation induced by Alternaria alternata or papain in mice. Moreover, in human circulating ILC2s, the expression level of PAC1 was also significantly negatively correlated with the cell amount and the expression level of IL13. Mechanistically, PAC1 was necessary for ensuring the expression of CGRP-response genes by influencing chromatin accessibility. In summary, our study demonstrated that PAC1 is an important regulator of ILC2 responses and we proposed that PAC1 is a potential target for therapeutic interventions of type II inflammation-related diseases.

Glomus tumor (GT) is a neoplastic lesion of mesenchymal origin arising from the neuromyoarterial canal or glomus body. Although most GT occur in the peripheral soft tissue and extremities, these tumors can grow anywhere in the body. Here, we describe an uncommon case of GT involving the prostate.

Background and Objectives: Excessive Manganese (Mn) exposure is neurotoxic and can cause Mn-Induced Parkinsonism (MnIP), marked by cognitive and motor dysfunction. Although metabolomic and lipidomic research in Parkinsonism (PD) patients exists, it remains limited. This study hypothesizes distinct metabolomic and lipidomic profiles based on exposure status, disease diagnosis, and their interaction. Methods: We used a case-control design with a 2×2 factorial framework to investigate the metabolomic and lipidomic alterations associated with Mn exposure and their link to PD. The study population of 97 individuals was divided into four groups: non-exposed controls (n=23), exposed controls (n=25), non-exposed with PD (n=26) and exposed with PD (n=23). Cases, defined by at least two cardinal PD features (excluding vascular, iatrogenic, and traumatic origins), were recruited from movement disorder clinics in four hospitals in Brescia, Northern Italy. Controls, free from neurological or psychiatric conditions, were selected from the same hospitals. Exposed subjects resided in metallurgic regions (Val Camonica and Bagnolo Mella) for at least 8 continuous years, while non-exposed subjects lived in low-exposure areas around Lake Garda and Brescia city. We conducted untargeted analyses of metabolites and lipids in whole blood samples using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) and mass spectrometry (MS), followed by statistical analyses including Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Partial Least Squares-Discriminant Analysis (PLS-DA), and Two-Way Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Results: Metabolomic analysis revealed modulation of alanine, aspartate, and glutamate metabolism (Impact=0.05, p=0.001) associated with disease effect; butanoate metabolism (Impact=0.03, p=0.004) with the exposure effect; and vitamin B6 metabolism (Impact=0.08, p=0.03) with the interaction effect. Differential relative abundances in 3- sulfoxy-L-Tyrosine (ß=1.12, FDR p<0.001), glycocholic acid (ß=0.48, FDR p=0.03), and palmitelaidic acid (ß=0.30, FDR p<0.001) were linked to disease, exposure, and interaction effects, respectively. In the lipidome, ferroptosis (Pathway Lipids=11, FDR p=0.03) associated with the disease effect and sphingolipid signaling (Pathway Lipids=9, FDR p=0.04) associated with the interaction effect were significantly altered. Lipid classes triacylglycerols, ceramides, and phosphatidylethanolamines showed differential relative abundances associated with disease, exposure, and interaction effects, respectively. Discussion: These findings suggest that PD and Mn exposure induce unique metabolomic and lipidomic changes, potentially serving as biomarkers for MnIP and warranting further study.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mothers' knowledge about asthma management on quality of life and asthma control among children with asthma in Palestine. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was carried out by mothers of children with asthma in Palestine in four major public hospitals. Mothers of a total of 220 were selected randomly via a computerized system. Data were collected using Pediatric Asthma Quality of Life (PAQLQ), an Asthma Control Test (ACT), and the mothers' Self-Practices and Knowledge (SPK) of asthma management questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS (V25). RESULTS: A total of 220 mothers of children with asthma were randomly selected and invited to participate but 182 agreed to participate, with a response rate of 83%. The mean age of participant children was 9.7 ± 2.72 years, and the mean age of mothers was 34.5 ± 9.6 years. The mean score of the QoL was 3.91(SD ± 1.61) out of 7. Most participant children had uncontrolled asthma with a total mean score of 14.13(SD ± 5.23) on the ACT. The mean score of mothers' SPK level was 2.12(SD ± 0.83) with a total mean score of 42.13 ± 3.68 out of 68, which indicated a moderate level of knowledge and there was a strong correlation between mothers' SPK and children's QoL. CONCLUSIONS: The investigation showed that mothers of children with asthma had moderate SPK, and the children had uncontrolled asthma with poor QoL. These findings suggest developing educational initiatives to enhance parents' asthma-related knowledge and skills to improve their children's asthma-related quality of life and asthma control.

Reliable blood-based tests for identifying early-stage breast cancer remain elusive. Employing single-cell transcriptomic sequencing analysis, we illustrate a close correlation between nucleotide metabolism in the breast cancer and activation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the tumor microenvironment, which shows distinctions between subtypes of patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and non-TNBC, and is likely to impact cancer prognosis through the A2AR-Treg pathway. Combining machine learning with absolute quantitative metabolomics, we have established an effective approach to the early detection of breast cancer, utilizing a four-metabolite panel including inosine and uridine. This metabolomics study, involving 1111 participants, demonstrates high accuracy across the training, test, and independent validation cohorts. Inosine and uridine prove predictive of the response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with TNBC. This study deepens our understanding of nucleotide metabolism in breast cancer development and introduces a promising non-invasive method for early breast cancer detection and predicting NAC response in patients with TNBC.

Escherichia coli, a rod-shaped Gram-negative bacterium, is a significant causative agent of severe clinical bacterial infections. This study aimed to analyze the epidemiology of extended-spectrum ß-lactamase (ESBL)-producing mcr-1 -positive E. coli in Shandong, China. We collected 668 non-duplicate ESBL-producing E. coli strains from clinical samples at Shandong Provincial Hospital between January and December 2018, and estimated their minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) using a VITEK® 2 compact system and broth microdilution. Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatic analyses identified the mcr-1 gene and other resistance genes in the polymyxin B-resistant strains. The conjugation experiment assessed the horizontal transfer capacity of the mcr-1 gene. Of the strains collected, 24 polymyxin B-resistant strains were isolated with a positivity rate of 3.59% and among the 668 strains, 19 clinical strains carried the mobile colistin resistance gene mcr-1, with a positivity rate of approximately 2.8%. All 19 clinical strains were resistant to ampicillin, cefazolin, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, and polymyxin B. Seventeen strains successfully transferred the mcr-1 gene into E. coli J53. All transconjugants were resistant to polymyxin B, and carried the drug resistance gene mcr-1. The 19 clinical strains had 14 sequence types (STs), with ST155 (n = 4) being the most common. The whole-genome sequencing results of pECO-POL-29_mcr1 revealed that no ISApl1 insertion sequences were found on either side of the mcr-1 gene. Our study uncovered the molecular epidemiology of mcr-1-carrying ESBL-producing E. coli in the region and suggested horizontal transmission mediated by plasmids as the main mode of mcr-1 transmission.

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of violence against children is alarmingly high, with millions facing violent discipline and physical punishment. In Mongolia, domestic violence-related criminal offenses have sharply increased, with a 46.92% surge in the first quarter of 2020 compared to 2019. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of and identify factors associated with physical punishment and/or psychological aggression experienced by children under 5 years old from their caregivers. METHODS: We used data from the nationally representative 2018 MICS6 dataset. To examine the association between independent and dependent variables, we used multilevel Poisson regression because it provides a better estimate and is more interpretable when the prevalence is relatively high. RESULTS: The prevalence of psychological aggression was reported at 32.3% and physical punishment at 31.6%, including severe forms. Nonviolent techniques were common, with 77.5% exclusively using nonviolent discipline. Psychological aggression was more likely to occur in older children (3 and 4 years old) and in households with Buddhist heads. Additionally, 3-year-olds are more likely to experience physical punishment compared to 2-year-olds. CONCLUSION: These findings underscore the need for targeted policy interventions, including age-sensitive parental education programs and religious and cultural sensitivity measures. Comprehensive educational and awareness programs are essential to foster a culture of nonviolence across all educational levels, highlighting the need for context-specific policies to safeguard the well-being of children in Mongolia.

This study investigates the efficacy of a novel tissue-engineered scaffold for nerve repair and functional reconstruction following injury. Utilizing stable jet electrospinning, we fabricated aligned ultrafine fibers from dopamine and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), further developing a biomimetic, oriented, and electroactive scaffold comprising poly(pyrrole) (PPy), polydopamine (PDA), and PLLA through dual in situ polymerizations. The scaffold demonstrated enhanced cell adhesion and reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging capabilities and promoted the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) into Schwann-like cells, essential for nerve regeneration. In vivo assessments revealed significant peripheral nerve regeneration in 10 mm sciatic nerve defects in rats, with observations made 12 weeks post-transplantation. This included facilitated myelination and increased muscle density on the injured side, leading to improved motor function recovery. Our results suggest that the aligned PPy/PDA/PLLA fibrous scaffold offers a promising approach for promoting the differentiation of MSCs into Schwann-like cells conducive to nerve regeneration and represents a significant advancement in nerve repair technologies. This study provides a foundational basis for future research into tissue-engineered solutions for nerve damage, potentially impacting clinical strategies for nerve reconstruction.

In recent decades, global aquaculture has expanded rapidly, raising concerns about coastal environmental degradation due to unregulated or poorly regulated discharge of aquaculture tailwater. Despite the crucial role of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in biogeochemical processes and aquatic biodiversity, the influence of aquaculture type on the molecular characteristics of DOM remains largely unexplored. Herein, this study investigated the variations in chemical and spectroscopic properties as well as molecular characteristics and composition of DOM across different aquaculture types including crustacean, fish and shellfish. Our findings revealed notable differences in DOM quantities among different aquaculture types, with crustacean and fish aquaculture water containing higher DOM amount compared to shellfish aquaculture water. This disparity can be attributed to the more frequent formulated feeds of crustacean and fish in contrast to shellfish aquaculture. Furthermore, distinct differences were also observed in the characteristics and composition of DOM among the different aquaculture waters. Specifically, DOM in shellfish aquaculture water exhibited a higher abundance of unsaturated and reduced molecules as well as increased aromaticity compared to the other two aquaculture waters. Conversely, DOM from fish aquaculture water showed a greater contribution from terrestrial origin characterized by elevated levels of plant-based components such as lignin-like and tannin-like compounds. Interestingly, DOM from shellfish aquaculture water contained lower levels of microbial-derived components such as lipid-like and protein-like compounds, likely due to reduced microorganism populations resulting from lower nutrients availability and higher salinity. Overall, these significant variations in characteristics and composition of DOM underscore the potential impacts of aquaculture type on the DOM biogeochemical cycle and the environmental quality in aquatic ecosystems.

Background: Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC), which includes major nosocomial pathogens, causes urinary, respiratory, and bloodstream infections in humans, for which colistin is one of the last-line drugs. Objective: This study aimed to analyse the epidemiology and resistance mechanisms of colistin-resistant Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC) strains isolated from Shandong, China. Methods: Two hundred non-repetitive ECC strains were collected from a tertiary hospital in Shandong Province, China, from June 2020 to June 2022. Whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed to understand the molecular epidemiology of the colistin-resistant ECC strains. The nucleotide sequences of heat shock protein (hsp60) were analyzed by using BLAST search to classify ECC. The gene expression levels of ramA, soxS, acrA, acrB, phoP, and phoQ were assessed using RT-qPCR. MALDI-TOF MS was used to analyse the modification of lipid A. Results: Twenty-three colistin-resistant strains were detected among the 200 ECC clinical strains (11.5%). The hsp60 cluster analysis revealed that 20 of the 23 ECC strains belonged to heterogeneous resistance clusters. Variants of mgrB, phoPQ, and pmrAB, particularly phoQ and pmrB, were detected in the 23 ECC strains. The soxS and acrA genes were significantly overexpressed in all 23 colistin-resistant ECC strains (P < 0.05). Additionally, all 23 ECC strains contained modified lipid A related to colistin resistance, which showed five ion peaks at m/z 1876, 1920, 1955, 2114, and 2158. Among the 23 ECC strains, 6 strains possessed a phosphoethanolamine (pETN) moiety, 16 strains possessed a 4-amino-4-deoxy-L-arabinose (-L-Ara4N) moiety, and one strain had both pETN and -L-Ara4N moieties. Conclusion: This study suggests that diverse colistin resistance existed in ECC, including unknown resistance mechanisms, exist in ECC. Mechanistic investigations of colistin resistance are warranted to optimise colistin use in clinical settings and minimise the emergence of resistance.

Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common malignant tumor of the urinary system in children. Though the traditional treatment of surgery plus radiotherapy and chemotherapy achieves exciting clinical efficacy, in relapsed and refractory cases, the long-term overall survival rates are poor. Besides, chemotherapy and radiation have serious long-term toxic side effects on children. Cancer immunotherapy is a new tumor therapy that works by activating the body's immune system to allow immune cells to kill tumor cells more efficiently. Currently, cancer immunotherapy has been tested in clinical trials or basic studies in WT. This article reviews the current status of clinical trials and basic research of cancer immunotherapy in WT to promote the application of cancer immunotherapy in WT patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the value of intraoperative assessment of spread through air spaces (STAS) on frozen sections (FS) in peripheral small-sized lung adenocarcinoma. BACKGROUND: Surgical decision-making based on FS diagnosis of STAS may be useful to prevent local control failure after sublobar resection. METHODS: We conducted a multicenter prospective observational study of consecutive patients with cT1N0M0 invasive lung adenocarcinoma to evaluate the accuracy of FS for the intraoperative detection of STAS. The final pathology (FP) diagnosis of STAS was based on corresponding permanent paraffin sections. RESULTS: This study included 878 patients with cT1N0M0 invasive lung adenocarcinoma. A total of 833 cases (95%) were assessable for STAS on FS. 26.4% of the cases evaluated positive for STAS on FP, whereas 18.2% on FS. The accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity of FS diagnosis of STAS were 85.1%, 56.4%, and 95.4%, respectively, with moderate agreement (κ=0.575). Inter-observer agreement was substantial (κ=0.756) among the three pathologists. Subgroup analysis based on tumor size or consolidation-to-tumor ratio all showed moderate agreement for concordance. After rigorous reassessment of false-positive cases, the presence of artifacts may be the main cause of interpretation errors. Additionally, true positive cases showed more high-grade histological patterns and more advanced p-TNM stages than false negative cases. CONCLUSIONS: This is the largest prospective observational study to evaluate STAS on FS in patients with cT1N0M0 invasive lung adenocarcinoma. FS is highly specific with moderate agreement, but is not sensitive for STAS detection. While appropriately reporting STAS on FS may provide surgeons with valuable information for intraoperative decision-making, better approaches are needed.

Apoptotic proteins play a crucial role in the apoptosis process, ensuring a balance between cell proliferation and death. Thus, further elucidating the regulatory mechanisms of apoptosis will enhance our understanding of their functions. However, the development of computational methods to accurately identify positive and negative regulation of apoptosis remains a significant challenge. This work proposes a machine learning model based on multi-feature fusion to effectively identify the roles of positive and negative regulation of apoptosis. Initially, we constructed a reliable benchmark dataset containing 200 positive regulation of apoptosis and 241 negative regulation of apoptosis proteins. Subsequently, we developed a classifier that combines the support vector machine (SVM) with pseudo composition of k-spaced amino acid pairs (PseCKSAAP), composition transition distribution (CTD), dipeptide deviation from expected mean (DDE), and PSSM-composition to identify these proteins. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was employed to select optimized features that could yield the maximum prediction performance. Evaluating the proposed model on independent data revealed and achieved an accuracy of 0.781 with an AUROC of 0.837, demonstrating our model's potent capabilities.

Background: Gallbladder mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasm generally consists of a gallbladder neuroendocrine tumor and a non-neuroendocrine component. The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019 established a guideline requiring each component, both neuroendocrine and non-neuroendocrine, to account for a minimum of 30% of the tumor mass. Methods: Patients after surgery resection and diagnosed at microscopy evaluation with pure gallbladder neuroendocrine carcinoma (GBNEC), gallbladder mixed adeno-neuroendocrine carcinoma (GBMANEC, GBNEC≥30%), and gallbladder carcinoma mixed with a small fraction of GBNEC (GBNEC <30%) between 2010 and 2022 at West China Hospital of Sichuan University were collated for the analyses. Demographic features, surgical variables, and tumor characteristics were evaluated for association with patients' overall and recurrence-free survival (OS and RFS). Results: The study included 26 GBNEC, 11 GBMANEC, 4 gallbladder squamous-cell carcinoma (GBSCC), and 7 gallbladder adenocarcinoma (GBADC) mixed with a small fraction of GBNEC. All patients had stage III or higher tumors (AJCC8th edition). The majority of included patients (79.17%) underwent curative surgical resection (R0), with only ten patients having tumoral resection margins. In the analysis comparing patients with GBNEC percentage (GBNEC≥30% vs. GBNEC<30%), the basic demographics and tumor characteristics of most patients were comparable. The prognosis of these patients was also comparable, with a median OS of 23.65 months versus 20.40 months (P=0.13) and a median RFS of 17.1 months versus 12.3 months (P=0.24). However, patients with GBADC or GBSCC mixed with GBNEC <30% had a statistically significant decreased OS and RFS (both P<0.0001)) compared with GBNEC and GBMANEC. Patients with GBNEC who exhibited advanced tumor stages and lymphovascular invasion had a higher risk of experiencing worse overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). However, a 30% GBNEC component was not identified as an independent risk factor. Conclusion: Patients with GBNEC were frequently diagnosed at advanced stages and their prognosis is poor. The 30% percentage of the GBNEC component is not related to the patient's survival.

BACKGROUND: The National Chest Pain Center Program (NCPCP) is a nationwide, quality enhancement program aimed at raising the standard of care for patients experiencing acute chest pain in China. The benefits of chest pain center (CPC) accreditation on acute coronary syndrome have been demonstrated. However, there is no evidence to indicate whether CPC accreditation improves outcomes for patients with acute aortic dissection (AAD). METHODS: We conducted a retrospective observational study of patients with AAD from 1671 hospitals in China, using data from the NCPCP spanning the period from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2022. The patients were divided into 2 groups: pre-accreditation and post-accreditation admissions. The outcomes examined included in-hospital mortality, misdiagnosis, and Stanford type A AAD surgery. Multivariate logistic regression was employed to explore the relationship between CPC accreditation and in-hospital outcomes. Furthermore, we stratified the hospitals based on their geographical location (Eastern/Central/Western regions) or administrative status (provincial/non-provincial capital areas) to assess the impact of CPC accreditation on AAD patients across various regions. RESULTS: The analysis encompassed a total of 40,848 patients diagnosed with AAD. The post-accreditation group exhibited significantly lower rates of in-hospital mortality and misdiagnosis (12.1% vs. 16.3%, P < 0.001 and 2.9% vs. 5.4%, P < 0.001, respectively) as well as a notably higher rate of Stanford type A AAD surgery (61.1% vs. 42.1%, P < 0.001) compared with the pre-accreditation group. After adjusting for potential covariates, CPC accreditation was associated with substantially reduced risks of in-hospital mortality (adjusted OR 0.644, 95% CI 0.599-0.693) and misdiagnosis (adjusted OR 0.554, 95% CI 0.493-0.624), along with an increase in the proportion of patients undergoing Stanford type A AAD surgery (adjusted OR 1.973, 95% CI 1.797-2.165). Following CPC accreditation, there were significant reductions in in-hospital mortality across various regions, particularly in Western regions (from 21.5 to 14.1%). Moreover, CPC accreditation demonstrated a more pronounced impact on in-hospital mortality in non-provincial cities compared to provincial cities (adjusted OR 0.607 vs. 0.713). CONCLUSION: CPC accreditation is correlated with improved management and in-hospital outcomes for patients with AAD.

CO poisoning in Pt-based anode catalysts significantly hampers the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) performance. Despite great advances in CO-tolerant catalysts, their effectiveness is often limited to fundamental three-electrode systems, which is inadequate for practical PEMFC applications. Herein, we present a straightforward thermal oxidation strategy for constructing a Ru oxide blocking layer on commercial PtRu/C through a one-step Ru-segregation-and-oxidation process. The resulting 0.7 nm thick Ru oxide layer effectively inhibits CO adsorption while maintaining hydrogen oxidation activity. PtRu@RuO2/C demonstrates exceptional CO tolerance, enduring 1% CO in rotating disk electrode tests, an ∼10-fold improvement compared to that of PtRu/C. Crucially, it retains high HOR activity and CO tolerance in PEMFC, with negligible polarization curve loss in the presence of 100 ppm CO. Notably, 85% HOR activity is retained after a 4 h stability test. This enhancement contributes to the Ru oxide layer decelerating CO adsorption kinetics, rather than promoting CO oxidation via the classic bifunctional mechanism.

This study thoroughly examines three cetacean monitoring methods and assessing their advantages and limitations, establishing a foundational basis for comprehensive information on composition, distribution, and behavior. While real-time and non-invasive, visual surveys favor surface-active cetaceans and are weather-dependent. Local ecological knowledge supplements insights into group behavior. Environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis efficiently detects species like the narrow-ridged finless porpoise (Neophocaena asiaeorientalis) and common bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus), offering non-invasive, and spatially adept monitoring. Furthermore, eDNA provides prey species information, revealing the narrow-ridged finless porpoise's winter migration to deeper waters due to prey distribution. The study identifies prevalent prey species, like the Japanese Anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) and Osbeck's grenadier anchovy (Coilia mystus), offering insights into the porpoise's feeding ecology and adaptation to changing prey availability in winter. This study systematically compares diverse methodologies employed in cetacean surveys, thereby yielding a comprehensive understanding of cetacean distribution, behavior, and feeding ecology.
