RESUMEN

Aim: This case report aims to describe the importance of early diagnosis, clinical features, and timely management of multiple odontomas in pediatric patient. Background: Odontoma is a benign odontogenic tumor of epithelial and mesenchymal origin. Odontomas can occur in multiples and can be associated with other dental anomalies. It may adversely affect the normal development and eruption of the permanent succedaneous teeth. Case description: We report a case of multiple odontomas in association with unerupted permanent incisor and its surgical management. Conclusion: The efforts in diagnosing and managing odontomas at an early age hold a good impact on a child's oral health status. Clinical significance: Early diagnosis, proper treatment planning, appropriate management, and regular follow-ups of odontomas hold great importance for pediatric dentists as well as general dentists in routine dental practice. RESUMEN

Premature loss of primary teeth in children may lead to space loss in the arch, which leads to the collapse of vertical and horizontal occlusal relationships in primary and permanent dentitions. The ideal method to preserve the space in the arch in such a scenario is to use a space maintainer appliance. Conventionally, band and loop space maintainers are the most commonly used space maintainers. However, these are associated with certain drawbacks, such as multiple appointments and extended time for fabrication. A novel invention in the form of prefabricated bands and loops has been made to offset these disadvantages. Placement of prefabricated bands and loops decreases the chairside time and omits multiple visits, hence aiding in better behavior management for the child. RESUMEN

Odontomas are the most common tooth-like hamartomatous odontogenic tumours, which are usually asymptomatic and found on routine radiographs. Odontomas are commonly classified into two types: complex and compound odontomas. The most common consequences of odontoma are tooth impaction and/or delayed tooth eruption. The present report describes a unique case of multiple complex odontoma in the anterior maxillary region in a 12-year-old young patient, which is a rare occurrence. The uniqueness of this case report is in the location, number, and complexity of the complex tumours. Early diagnosis, proper treatment planning, appropriate management, and regular follow-ups of these odontomas helped in complete removal and prevented recurrence even after 12 months of follow-up.

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare the antimicrobial efficacy of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), Saline, and Er, Cr:YSGG laser-assisted disinfection through microbiological analysis in root canal treatment of primary molars. Materials and Methods: Forty-five primary teeth were selected for this study as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the age group of 4-8 years and then randomly allocated to Three Groups A, B, and C. In Group A, during root canal treatment, irrigation was done using NaOCl, in Group B, laser-assisted disinfection was done using Er, Cr:YSGG laser, and in Group C, saline was used as an irrigating agent. This was followed by obtaining pre- and postirrigation samples from the canals for microbiological investigation in all the groups. Data analysis was performed using Statistical Package for the Social Science-21 (SPSS-21). Results: NaOCl was more effective against aerobic bacteria while Er, Cr:YSGG laser was more effective against anaerobic bacteria when used for disinfection in root canal treatment. There was a significant difference among the three groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The study showed that NaOCl and Er, Cr:YSGG laser have antimicrobial effects when used for disinfection in root canal treatment of primary teeth. Moreover, the study also shows that Er, Cr:YSGG laser may be used as a valuable tool for laser-assisted disinfection in root canal treatment of primary teeth.

Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. Epilepsy generally begins in childhood, potentially impeding education, employment, social relationships, and the development of a sense of self-worth. The number of decayed and missing teeth, the degree of abrasion, and periodontal indices are significantly worse in patients with epilepsy. Epileptic patients require special care during dental treatment. A seizure episode in a dental clinic is a medical emergency, and it is imperative as an oral health care provider to have adequate knowledge about this condition in order to render safer dental care to epileptic patients. There is a paucity of information in the medical literature on the dental management of epileptic patients. The purpose of this case series is to elaborate on the oral health considerations in epileptic patients and educate oral healthcare providers on the diagnosis, treatment, and emergency management of epilepsy, along with special dental treatment needs in epileptic patients. The case series is a compilation of two cases of petit mal epilepsy and one case of generalized tonic-clonic seizure with detailed descriptions of preventive seizure measures and dental management undertaken during the treatment of patients. RESUMEN

Odontomas are the most common type of odontogenic tumors. During tooth development stages, any defect in the maturation phase of morphodifferentiation leads to such anomalies. Odontomas are benign, slow-growing, and non-aggressive clinically asymptomatic. This paper describes the case of complex odontoma. A 7-year-old male child reported an asymptomatic hard growth in the right anterior region of the mandible associated with impacted deciduous canine. Radiograph revealed an amorphous mass of calcified material with a radiodensity similar to the tooth structure, with anatomically no resemblance to the tooth, surrounded by a thin radiolucent rim, suggestive of odontoma. Under local anesthesia, access to the lesion was achieved via intraoral approach and surgical excision to enable the eruption of retained permanent canine to establish harmony in the development of dental arch. AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare caries removal by Er,Cr:YSGG Laser and conventional method using Air-rotor handpiece in primary teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 25 children with at least two class I carious lesions on primary teeth with Diagnodent readings not differing more than ± 10 for both teeth were included in the study. All 50 teeth in the study received treatment by the same operator. Time taken for caries removal was recorded using a timer. Pain assessment was done using Wong Baker Modified Faces Pain Rating Scale and Visual Analog Scale before and after the procedure. After caries removal, caries detection dye was applied to the prepared cavity to check the efficacy of the procedure. In addition, after completion of treatment, each child was asked to indicate which method of caries removal, Er,Cr:YSGG Laser or Air-rotor handpiece, was more comfortable. RESULTS: The difference between the mean values for post-procedural Wong Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale scores and Visual Analog Scale scores in Group A and Group B were compared, which showed that children experienced less pain during the caries removal procedure with Er,Cr:YSGG Laser than with Air-rotor handpiece. Time taken for caries removal procedure was more in Group A than in Group B. It was seen that in both the groups caries detection dye was completely removed and both the procedures were equally efficacious for caries removal. Children indicated caries removal procedure with Laser to be more comfortable. CONCLUSION: Within the parameters and limitations of the present study, it is suggested that Er,Cr:YSGG Laser seems to be an acceptable tool for caries removal in primary teeth. Children found caries removal with Er,Cr:YSGG Laser to be more comfortable even though time taken was more than the conventional method using Air-rotor handpiece.

BACKGROUND: Dental trauma is not uncommon. The initial management provided at the time of injury is critical in predicting prognosis. However, initial management depends on correct diagnosis. Recently an App named 'Injured Tooth' was made available to diagnose traumatic injuries to the teeth and supporting structures. AIM: To test the diagnostic ability of the Injured Tooth App compared with the conventional method of diagnosing traumatic injuries to the teeth. DESIGN: A cross-sectional study was conducted at three different centres with 176 patients aged 0-15 years, having 201 injured teeth. Diagnosis of the injured teeth in these children at every centre was done independently by one experienced faculty using the traditional method and by a student using the Injured Tooth App. RESULTS: Injured Tooth App gave a correct diagnosis for 197 teeth included in the study. Statistical analysis showed that there was good agreement (Kappa = 0.973) between the diagnosis given by the App and the experienced faculty. CONCLUSIONS: The study found that the diagnosis given by the Injured Tooth App was in good agreement with the diagnosis given by an experienced faculty. Hence, the App can be successfully used by dental students to arrive at diagnosis.
