Background: The aim of this study was to classify distinct subgroups of adolescents based on the severity levels of their mobile phone addiction and to investigate how these groups differed in terms of their psychosocial characteristics. We surveyed a total of 2,230 adolescents using three different questionnaires to assess the severity of their mobile phone addiction, stress, anxiety, depression, psychological resilience, and personality. Latent class analysis was employed to identify the subgroups, and we utilized Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves and multinomial logistic regression for statistical analysis. All data analyses were conducted using SPSS 26.0 and Mplus 8.5. Methods: We classified the subjects into subgroups based on their mobile phone addiction severity, and the results revealed a clear pattern with a three-class model based on the likelihood level of mobile phone addiction (p < 0.05). We examined common trends in psychosocial traits such as age, grade at school, parental education level, anxiety levels, and resilience. ROC analysis of sensitivity versus 1-specificity for various mobile phone addiction index (MPAI) scores yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.893 (95% CI, 0.879 to 0.905, p < 0.001). We also determined diagnostic value indices for potential cutoff points ranging from 8 to 40. The optimal cutoff value for MPAI was found to be >14, which corresponded to the maximum Youden index (Youden index = 0.751). Results: The latent classification process in this research confirmed the existence of three distinct mobile phone user groups. We also examined the psychosocial characteristics that varied in relation to the severity levels of addiction. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the categorization of adolescents based on the severity of mobile phone addiction and sheds light on the psychosocial characteristics associated with different addiction levels. These findings are expected to enhance our understanding of mobile phone addiction traits and stimulate further research in this area.

Based on a typical ozone (O3) pollution process in Jinan City from June 16 to 26, 2021, the variation characteristics of O3 and its precursor volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during different pollution periods (clean period (CP), pollution rise period (PRP), heavy pollution period (HPP), and pollution decline period (PDP)) in the urban area were analyzed. Both positive matrix factorization (PMF) and an observation-based model (OBM) were used to identify the main sources of VOCs, O3 production mechanisms, and sensitive species. The results showed that the average value of ρ(O3-8h) during the HPP period in the urban area was (246.67±11.24) µg·m-3, and ρ(O3-1h) had a peak value of 300 µg·m-3. The volume fractions of VOCs and NO2 concentration were affected by the decrease in planetary boundary layer and wind speed, which were 76.99%-145.36% and 127.78%-141.18% higher than those in the other three periods, respectively, and were the main reasons for the aggravation of O3 pollution. Alkanes, oxygenated volatile organic compounds (OVOCs), and halogenated hydrocarbons accounted for 43.81%, 20.98%, and 17.43% of VOCs in urban areas, respectively. All of them showed significant growth during the HPP period, with acetone, propane, and ethane being the top three species by volume in each stage and isopentane showing the highest growth during the HPP period. Alkene, alkanes, and aromatic hydrocarbons accounted for 40.19%, 28.06%, and 21.92% of the ozone generation potential (OFP). 1-butene, toluene, isopentane, and isoprene were the species with higher OFP. Isoprene had the highest OFP during the PRP phase, and 1-butene had the highest OFP during the HPP phase. The volume fraction of isopentane significantly increased OFP. The correlation coefficient between VOCs and CO preliminarily indicated that motor vehicle exhaust and oil and gas volatilization were the main sources of VOCs during the HPP period. Further use of PMF revealed that solvent use sources, combustion sources, motor vehicle exhaust+oil and gas volatilization sources, industrial emission sources, and plant sources were important sources of VOCs in urban areas. The contribution of motor vehicle exhaust+oil and gas volatilization sources in the HPP period to VOCs was 3.09-14.72 times higher than that in other periods. The contribution of solvent use sources to VOCs was approximately 2.50 times higher than that in the CP and PRP periods. The main sources of VOCs volume fraction increase were motor vehicle exhaust, oil and gas volatilization sources, and solvent use sources. Potential sources and concentration weight analysis found that VOCs were also affected by the transmission of VOCs to Binzhou and Dongying in the northeast direction. The OBM results indicated that the main pathway of O3 formation in urban areas was the reaction of peroxide hydroxyl radicals (HO2·ï¼‰ and methyl peroxide radicals (CH3O2·ï¼‰ with NO, and the net ozone generation rate during the HPP phase [P(O3)net] was 24×10-9 h-1. Based on the sensitivity experiment results, the alkene components of 1-butene, propylene, cis-2-butene, and ethylene were the dominant species for O3 production.

Knowledge about the effect of different prostate biopsy approaches on the prostate cancer detection rate (CDR) in patients with gray-zone prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is limited. We performed this study to compare the CDR among patients who underwent different biopsy approaches and had rising PSA levels in the gray zone. Two hundred and twenty-two patients who underwent transrectal prostate biopsy (TRB) and 216 patients who underwent transperineal prostate biopsy (TPB) between June 2016 and September 2022 were reviewed in this study. In addition, 110 patients who received additional targeted biopsies following the systematic TPB were identified. Clinical parameters, including age, PSA derivative, prostate volume (PV), and needle core count, were recorded. The data were fitted via propensity score matching (PSM), adjusting for potential confounders. TPB outperformed TRB in terms of the CDR (49.6% vs 28.3%, P = 0.001). The clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) detection rate was not significantly different between TPB and TRB (78.6% vs 68.8%, P = 0.306). In stratified analysis, TPB outperformed TRB in CDR when the age of patients was 65-75 years (59.0% vs 22.0%, P < 0.001), when PV was 25.00-50.00 ml (63.2% vs 28.3%, P < 0.001), and when needle core count was no more than 12 (58.5% vs 31.5%, P = 0.005). The CDR ( P = 0.712) and detection rate of csPCa ( P = 0.993) did not significantly differ among the systematic, targeted, and combined biopsies. TPB outperformed TRB in CDR for patients with gray-zone PSA. Moreover, performing target biopsy after systematic TPB provided no additional benefits in CDR.

It is unclear whether cognitive impairment and the longitudinal change in cognition are associated with the risk of fatal stroke in aging populations. Based on the Guangzhou Biobank Cohort Study data a sum of 26,064 participants at baseline and all deaths caused by stroke in a mean follow-up of 14.3 years (standard deviation = 3.2) were included, and the Cox proportional hazard regression was used in this prospective cohort study. Cognitive impairment was respectively associated with an increased risk of fatal strokes (the adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 1.38, 95% CI1.16-1.64, P < 0.001) and fatal ischaemic stroke (aHR = 1.39, 95% CI1.10-1.77, P = 0.007), compared to median cognition; the Delayed Word Recall Test (DWRT) score was associated with a decreasing trend for the risk of fatal strokes in a restricted cubic spline analysis; the longitudinal DWRT score decline was associated with the increased risks of fatal strokes (aHR = 1.42, 95% CI 1.11-1.82, P = 0.006) and fatal haemorrhagic stroke (aHR = 1.75, 95% CI 1.10-2.78, P = 0.02), compared to the longitudinal DWRT score rise. In summary, cognitive impairment and the longitudinal decline in DWRT scores were associated with the increased risk of fatal strokes; early screening of cognitive function should be conducive to predictive intervention in fatal stroke among relatively healthy middle-aged to older populations.

The effect of microplastics (MPs) retained in waste activated sludge (WAS) on anaerobic digestion (AD) performance has attracted more and more attention. However, their effect on thermophilic AD remains unclear. Here, the influence of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) MPs on methanogenesis and active microbial communities in mesophilic (37 °C) and thermophilic (55 °C) AD was investigated. The results showed that 1, 5, and 10 mg/L PVC MPs significantly promoted the cumulative methane yield in mesophilic AD by 5.62%, 7.36%, and 8.87%, respectively, while PVC MPs reduced that in thermophilic AD by 13.30%, 18.82%, and 19.99%, respectively. Moreover, propionate accumulation was only detected at the end of thermophilic AD with PVC MPs. Microbial community analysis indicated that PVC MPs in mesophilic AD enriched hydrolytic and acidifying bacteria (Candidatus Competibacter, Lentimicrobium, Romboutsia, etc.) together with acetoclastic methanogens (Methanosarcina, Methanosaeta). By contrast, most carbohydrate-hydrolyzing bacteria, propionate-oxidizing bacterium (Pelotomaculum), and Methanosarcina were inhibited by PVC MPs in thermophilic AD. Network analysis further suggested that PVC MPs significantly changed the relationship of key microorganisms in the AD process. A stronger correlation among the above genera occurred in mesophilic AD, which may promote the methanogenic performance. These results suggested that PVC MPs affected mesophilic and thermophilic AD of WAS via changing microbial activities and interaction.

BACKGROUND: Low physical activity (LPA) is linked to the risk of stroke, but the disease burden of stroke attributable to LPA needs to be understood to develop effective preventive strategies. We aim to assess spatiotemporal trends in the global burden of stroke attributable to LPA from 1990 to 2019. METHODS: Based on the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study, our research examined deaths, the Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), the Age-Standardized Mortality Rate (ASMR), the Age-Standardized DALY Rate (ASDR), and the Estimated Annual Percentage Change (EAPC) for stroke attributable to LPA. RESULTS: Deaths and DALYs were on the rise worldwide from 1990 to 2019, with increases of 72.72% for the former and 67.41% for the latter; ASMR and ASDR decreased, with the ASMR-related EAPC of -1.61 (95% CI:-1.71--1.5) and ASDR-related EAPC of -1.35 (95% CI:-1.43--1.27); females had more numbers of deaths and DALYs, and the majorities of deaths and DALYs were shared by those aged ≥ 70. The highest burden rates were shared by North Africa, the Middle East, and Tropical Latin America; the ASMR-related EAPC was associated with the ASMR in 1990 (R = -0.26, P < 0.001) and the Socio-Demographic Index (SDI) across different countries in 2019 (R = -0.61, P < 0.001), respectively, and such patterns were similar to what ASDR and the ASDR-related EAPC had; the Human Development Index (HDI) in 2019 was associated with the ASMR-related EAPC (R = 0.63, P < 0.001) and the ASDR-related EAPC across different countries (R = -0.62, P < 0.001), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Globally, deaths and DALYs of stroke attributable to LPA were on the rise, although their age-standardized rates presented downward over the past three decades; the burden of stroke attributable to LPA showed upward trends especially in those aged ≥ 70 and females in the regions of East Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East, which need more attention to the effects of physical activity on health interventions.

Morchella esculenta is an edible fungus with a uniquely delicious flavor and remarkable benefits for health. Herein, the molecular mechanism underlying the anti-inflammatory effects of Morchella esculenta was elucidated using molecular docking and network pharmacology. NPASS, Super-pred, SEA, Swiss Target Prediction, GeneCards, DisGeNET, Omim database, and STRING platform were used to select anti-inflammatory targets and construct target protein interaction networks using the active ingredients of Morchella esculenta. The OmicShare cloud platform was used to analyze GO functions and KEGG pathways related to the target, and the AutoDock Vina software was used to perform molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation on the main target. Based on Cytoscape's "Network Analysis", the degree was used to identify potential key targets, and different inflammatory transcriptome data sets were used to evaluate core targets showing clinical significance. The active ingredient of Morchella esculenta identified from the NPASS database was EOYA, which had 43 anti-inflammatory targets, including NR1I2, PTGS1, PTGS2, CYP4F2, CYP3A4, TLR4, MAPK1, PLA2G4A, and PTPN11, and was mainly implicated in arachidonic acid metabolism, vascular endothelial growth factor signal pathway, and sphingomyelin signal transduction pathway, indicating that the anti-inflammatory effects of EOYA were mainly related to these biological processes. The degree was used to select 9 potential effective targets, namely NR1I2, PTGS1, PTGS2, CYP4F2, CYP3A4, TLR4, MAPK1, PLA2G4A, and PTPN11, among which NR1I2, PTGS1, PTGS2, PLA2G4A, MAPK1, CYP3A4, and TLR4 showed clinical significance. Molecular docking results showed that (E)-Octadec-11-En-9-Ynoic Acid (EOYA) could spontaneously bind to the 9 core targets, and the binding fractions of NR1I2, PTGS1, PTGS2, CYP4F2, and CYP3A4 were the highest. The MD simulation results showed that EYOA did indeed bind well NR1I2 to PTGS2, and the complex has high stability. Morchella esculenta can regulate the activity of prostaglandin endoperoxide synthetase, and affect the biosynthesis of prostaglandins, thereby impacting the metabolic pathway of arachidonic acid.

OBJECTIVES: Traditional preoperative reminding services have been applied to enhance the quality of bowel preparation for colonoscopy. In this study we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an automated electronic reminder system (E-reminder) on improving bowel preparation and the quality of preoperative education before colonoscopy. METHODS: From August 2021 to March 2022, 833 outpatients aged 50-75 years who underwent colonoscopy were included and randomly assigned to the E-reminder group and the control group. While the control group received routine preoperative education. The E-reminder group received automatic phone call, text message reminders and web services regarding the details of bowel preparation before the colonoscopic examination. The quality of bowel preparation was evaluated by the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS) score and the previously validated objective evaluation scale of automatic BBPS (e-BBPS). RESULTS: In manual assessment, the rate of adequate bowel preparation was improved in the E-reminder group of intention-to-treat population using BBPS (60.7% vs 54.5%, P = 0.01). The percentage of objective evaluated adequate bowel preparation using e-BBPS in the E-reminder group of per-protocol population was significantly higher than that in the control group (76.9% vs 69.2%, P = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: E-reminder was an effective tool to improve the quality of bowel preparation and compliance with medical instructions. It may be regarded as an efficient and convenient education tool, improving the quality of medical service.

A 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole (HBI)-based ratiometric fluorescent probe, known as BTEP, was synthesized using 5-bromosalicylaldehyde as the raw material via Sonogashira coupling and condensation reaction. This probe was designed for rapid detection of boron trifluoride solutions and gases. The N and O coordination atoms in the probe undergo a boron difluoride addition with BF3, which affects the process of excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) leading to a blue shift of fluorescence emission. Obvious changes in the fluorescence signal can be observed within 60 seconds. The introduction of an acetylene trimethylsilane fragment increases the conjugate plane and is beneficial to improving the selectivity of the probe. The I408/I479 fluorescence ratio of the probe displays a linear relationship with the concentration of BF3 in the range of 5-50 µM, with a detection of limit as low as 69.5 nM. Furthermore, the probe demonstrates specific and selective recognition of BF3 among eight common interference substances. Test strips prepared using BTEP have the capability of real-time naked-eye detection of trace BF3 gas.

Background and Objectives: Osteoblasts are derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs) and play important role in bone remodeling. While our previous studies have investigated the cell subtypes and heterogeneity in osteoblasts and BMMSCs separately, cell-to-cell communications between osteoblasts and BMMSCs in vivo in humans have not been characterized. The aim of this study was to investigate the cellular communication between human primary osteoblasts and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Methods and Results: To investigate the cell-to-cell communications between osteoblasts and BMMSCs and identify new cell subtypes, we performed a systematic integration analysis with our single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) transcriptomes data from BMMSCs and osteoblasts. We successfully identified a novel preosteoblasts subtype which highly expressed ATF3, CCL2, CXCL2 and IRF1. Biological functional annotations of the transcriptomes suggested that the novel preosteoblasts subtype may inhibit osteoblasts differentiation, maintain cells to a less differentiated status and recruit osteoclasts. Ligand-receptor interaction analysis showed strong interaction between mature osteoblasts and BMMSCs. Meanwhile, we found FZD1 was highly expressed in BMMSCs of osteogenic differentiation direction. WIF1 and SFRP4, which were highly expressed in mature osteoblasts were reported to inhibit osteogenic differentiation. We speculated that WIF1 and sFRP4 expressed in mature osteoblasts inhibited the binding of FZD1 to Wnt ligand in BMMSCs, thereby further inhibiting osteogenic differentiation of BMMSCs. Conclusions: Our study provided a more systematic and comprehensive understanding of the heterogeneity of osteogenic cells. At the single cell level, this study provided insights into the cell-to-cell communications between BMMSCs and osteoblasts and mature osteoblasts may mediate negative feedback regulation of osteogenesis process.

The discovery of spin-transfer torque (STT) enabled the control of the magnetization direction in magnetic devices in nanoseconds using an electrical current. Ultrashort optical pulses have also been used to manipulate the magnetization of ferrimagnets at picosecond timescales by bringing the system out of equilibrium. So far, these methods of magnetization manipulation have mostly been developed independently within the fields of spintronics and ultrafast magnetism. Here we show optically induced ultrafast magnetization reversal taking place within less than a picosecond in rare-earth-free archetypal spin valves of [Pt/Co]/Cu/[Co/Pt] commonly used for current-induced STT switching. We find that the magnetization of the free layer can be switched from a parallel to an antiparallel alignment, as in STT, indicating the presence of an unexpected, intense and ultrafast source of opposite angular momentum in our structures. Our findings provide a route to ultrafast magnetization control by bridging concepts from spintronics and ultrafast magnetism.

PURPOSE: It has been proven that fibrinogen deposition exists in IgA nephropathy (IgAN), but its clinical significance has not been identified. We aim to investigate the clinical implication of fibrinogen deposition in evaluating the activity and prognosis of IgA nephropathy. METHODS: In this cohort, 935 adult IgAN patients were divided into 3 groups according to the intensity of glomerular fibrinogen deposition. Primary outcome refers to a composite event of either a ≥ 50% reduction in eGFR or ESRD (eGFR < 15 ml/min/1.73m2, dialysis, or renal transplantation). Factors associated with fibrinogen deposition and prognosis were identified. RESULTS: The results showed that the intensity of fibrinogen deposition was positively correlated with eGFR (P < 0.001), serum albumin (P = 0.041), and hemoglobin levels (P < 0.05), but negatively correlated with age (P = 0.04), serum fibrinogen levels (P < 0.001), serum C4 (P = 0.023), the proportion of patients with hypertension (P = 0.003), and the percentage of glomeruli sclerosis (P < 0.001). The prognostic analyses identified that fibrinogen deposition was an independent predictor for the progression of IgAN (P = 0.033). CONCLUSION: Our study indicated that the deposition of renal fibrinogen can predict the prognosis of IgAN with high reliability.

BACKGROUND: We compare the differences in the efficacy of percutaneous transforaminal endoscopic diskectomy (PTED) between the younger (age <60 years) and older (age ≥60 years) patients with lumbar disk herniation (LDH). METHODS: From December 2016 to December 2017, 128 patients with symptomatic LDH underwent PTED and were followed up. Forty-four 60 years old and above, including 19 males and 25 females with an average age of 68.7 (61-82) years, were classified as the elderly age group. Eighty-four patients younger than 60 years were classified as the young age group, which included 48 males and 36 females with an average age of 44.7 (16-58) years. The visual analog scale (VAS) scores, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores, and satisfaction rates of the two groups before and after surgery were compared. RESULTS: The operation was completed successfully in both groups. The average follow-up times of the elderly and young age groups were 18.47 ± 2.62 (12-23) and 17.90 ± 3.27 (12-23) months, respectively. One patient in the young age group had recurrence 7 months after surgery, and the symptoms were relieved after PTED was performed again. Two patients with nerve root injury after surgery in the young age group completely recovered after 2 months of conservative treatment. There were no significant surgical complications in the elderly age group. There was no significant difference in postoperative VAS, JOA, and MacNab scores between the two groups. The MacNab scores in the elderly age group were excellent for 28 patients, good for 10 patients, and fair for 6 patients; the satisfaction rate was 86.3%. In the young age group, scores were excellent for 63 patients, good for 14 patients, fair for 5 patients, and poor for 2 patients; the satisfaction rate was 91.7%. CONCLUSION: The clinical effectiveness of PTED for treatment of LDH in both elderly and young patients is satisfactory. Age is not a predictor of poor outcomes of PTED.

BACKGROUND: Recently, single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology was increasingly used to study transcriptomics at a single-cell resolution, scRNA-seq analysis was complicated by the "dropout", where the data only captures a small fraction of the transcriptome. This phenomenon can lead to the fact that the actual expressed transcript may not be detected. We previously performed osteoblast subtypes classification and dissection on freshly isolated human osteoblasts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Here, we used the scImpute method to impute the missing values of dropout genes from a scRNA-seq dataset generated on freshly isolated human osteoblasts. RESULTS: Based on the imputed gene expression patterns, we discovered three new osteoblast subtypes. Specifically, these newfound osteoblast subtypes are osteoblast progenitors, and two undetermined osteoblasts. Osteoblast progenitors showed significantly high expression of proliferation related genes (FOS, JUN, JUNB and JUND). Analysis of each subtype showed that in addition to bone formation, these undetermined osteoblasts may involve osteoclast and adipocyte differentiation and have the potential function of regulate immune activation. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings provided a new perspective for studying the osteoblast heterogeneity and potential biological functions of these freshly isolated human osteoblasts at the single-cell level, which provides further insight into osteoblasts subtypes under various (pathological) physiological conditions.

BACKGROUND: Endoscopy artifacts are widespread in real capsule endoscopy (CE) images but not in high-quality standard datasets. AIM: To improve the segmentation performance of polyps from CE images with artifacts based on ensemble learning. METHODS: We collected 277 polyp images with CE artifacts from 5760 h of videos from 480 patients at Guangzhou First People's Hospital from January 2016 to December 2019. Two public high-quality standard external datasets were retrieved and used for the comparison experiments. For each dataset, we randomly segmented the data into training, validation, and testing sets for model training, selection, and testing. We compared the performance of the base models and the ensemble model in segmenting polyps from images with artifacts. RESULTS: The performance of the semantic segmentation model was affected by artifacts in the sample images, which also affected the results of polyp detection by CE using a single model. The evaluation based on real datasets with artifacts and standard datasets showed that the ensemble model of all state-of-the-art models performed better than the best corresponding base learner on the real dataset with artifacts. Compared with the corresponding optimal base learners, the intersection over union (IoU) and dice of the ensemble learning model increased to different degrees, ranging from 0.08% to 7.01% and 0.61% to 4.93%, respectively. Moreover, in the standard datasets without artifacts, most of the ensemble models were slightly better than the base learner, as demonstrated by the IoU and dice increases ranging from -0.28% to 1.20% and -0.61% to 0.76%, respectively. CONCLUSION: Ensemble learning can improve the segmentation accuracy of polyps from CE images with artifacts. Our results demonstrated an improvement in the detection rate of polyps with interference from artifacts.

Matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2) was previously reported to play important role in the process of stem cell migration and various differentiation behaviors of muscle-derived mesenchymal stem cells (M-MSCs). However, its role and regulatory mechanism in the osteoblast differentiation and calcification of M-MSCs remain unclear. In the current study, we found that MMP2 could facilitate the osteoblast differentiation and calcification of muscle-derived mesenchymal stem cells by up-regulating the expression of some typical osteogenic differentiation phenotype markers, such as runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and osteocalcin (OCN). Besides, we further demonstrated that MMP2 could be directly targeted by miRNA-29b-3p, which was validated by dual luciferase reporter gene and rescue assays. Moreover, increased expression of MMP2 could contribute to forming more calcium nodules representative for osteoblast calcification verified by the alizarin red staining, vice versa. In conclusion, we identified the role of miRNA-29b-3p/MMP2 relationship in regulating osteoblast differentiation and calcification of M-MSCs, which may complement the effect of MMPs family on the osteoblast differentiation to some extent, providing some potential clinical application value in the promotion of bone formation in the future.

The emergence of drug resistance highlights the importance of new drug discovery. Microbial secondary metabolites encoded in biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) are a prolific source of drugs, whereas most of these BGCs are cryptic. Thus, taking strategies to activate these cryptic BGCs is of great importance for potential drug discovery. In this work, three novel pentangular polyphenols lanthomicin A-C were identified by activating a cryptic aromatic polyketide BGC through promoter engineering combined with optimization of fermentation conditions. We further confirmed the involvement of lanthomicin (ltm) BGC in biosynthesis by CRISPR-Cpf1-assisted gene editing. Based on functional analysis of homologous genes, a putative biosynthetic pathway was proposed for the three lanthomicins. Particularly, lanthomicin A showed antiproliferative activity with IC50 0.17 µM for lung cancer cell line A-549. The discovery of lanthomicins brings new members to the pentangular polyphenol subclade of aromatic polyketide and demonstrates the potential of Streptomyces as a source for drug discovery.

Background: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging as key players in the development and progression of cancer. Several malignancies involve dysregulated long noncoding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) in non-small cell lung cancer cell growth and their aggressive phenotypes. LncRNA B4GALT1-AS1 is important in the advancement of various malignancies, although its contribution to non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unexplored. Methods: LncRNA B4GALT1-AS1 in NSCLC tissues was detected and further validated in a cohort of non-small cell lung cancer tissues. The effects of lncRNA B4GALT1-AS1 on proliferation were determined by in vitro experiments. The B4GALT1-AS1-miR-144-3p-ZEB1 axis was assessed by dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays. Furthermore, the mechanism of B4GALT1-AS1 was investigated using loss-of-function assays in vitro. Results: We showed significant upregulation of B4GALT1-AS1 in cell lines and tissues of NSCLC. B4GALT1-AS1 knockdown impeded the in vitro proliferation-related characteristics of the NSCLC cells. The demonstration of the binding capacity of B4GALT1-AS1 and miR-144-3p was predicted by bioinformatics and luciferase reporter activity assay. The B4GALT1-AS1 and miR-144-3p interaction was shown by using rescue experiments. NSCLC has a positive association with its target, zinc finger e-box binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1). Conclusions: In summary, the progression of NSCLC was facilitated by lncRNA B4GALT1-AS1 via interaction with miR-144-3p and positive regulation of ZEB1 expression.

In this study, benzocyclobutene-functionalized organic-inorganic hybrid spherical silicon nanoparticles (BCBNPs) with controllable size (200-600 nm) and good dispersion were synthesized by a one-step sol-gel method in aqueous solution. The effect of the reaction conditions (time, precursor concentration, pH value and temperature) on the particle size of the BCBNPs and the formation mechanism of the BCBNPs were studied. What is more, homogeneously dispersed BCBNPs/divinyltetramethyldisiloxane-bis(benzocyclobutene) (BCBNPs/PDVSBCB) nanocomposites were prepared and the influence of the incorporation of BCBNPs on the properties of the nanocomposites was investigated. The dielectric constants of the BCBNPs/PDVSBCB nanocomposites were drastically reduced relative to neat PDVSBCB, and were as low as 2.25 (30 MHz). Besides, the thermal and mechanical properties of the BCBNPs/PDVSBCB nanocomposites were significantly improved, evidencing their potential applications in the field of high-performance dielectric materials.
