RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The comprehensive understanding of microRNAs (miRNAs) in sheep milk during various lactation periods and their impact on milk yield and composition remains limited. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the expression patterns of four highly expressed miRNAs in sheep milk and their association with milk composition and yield parameters during peak and late lactation stages. METHODS: A total of 40 healthy 4-year-old Akkaraman (n = 20) and Awassi (n = 20) ewes registered with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye were used in the present study. For miRNA isolation from milk, the Qiagen miRNeasy Serum/Plasma Advanced Kit was utilised following the manufacturer's instructions. The expression levels of miRNAs were assessed using Qiagen miRNA PCR Assays. RESULTS: The significant fold changes in the expression levels of oar-miR-30a-5p, oar-miR-148a and oar-miR-181a were observed between peak and late lactation periods in the Awassi sheep breed. Conversely, only oar-miR-30a-5p and oar-miR-148a exhibited statistically significant changes in the Akkaraman sheep breed during the same lactation periods. Furthermore, oar-miR-21-5p demonstrated a significant fold change exclusively in peak lactation compared to Akkaraman and Awassi ewes. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that the expression of the analysed miRNAs is influenced by both the lactation stage and different sheep breeds. This study offers valuable insights into the relationship between key miRNA expressions in sheep milk and milk composition and yield parameters during peak and late lactation, contributing to the existing knowledge in this field.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Limited data exist on long-term follow-up of severe aortic stenosis (SAS) patients who have undergone transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) with a new generation, balloon expandable Myval transcatheter heart valve (THV). Thus, we sought to investigate the performance and 2-year clinical outcome of the Myval THV system based on Valve Academic Research Consortium-3 (VARC-3) criteria. Material and methods: A multi-centre, registry-based, observational study was conducted, which included 207 consecutive degenerative SAS patients, from Turkey (n = 128), Italy (n = 58), and Greece (n = 21) (mean [standard deviation] 81 (7) years, 94 [45%] men; 73% NYHA III or IV; EuroSCORE II 5.2% [2.4%]); all patients underwent TAVI with Myval. Patients were followed up at 1 year and 2 years after implantation. Clinical and procedural outcomes were defined according to VARC-3 criteria. Results: Technical success was observed in 204 (99%), device success was observed in 189 (91%), early safety was observed in 161 (78%), and clinical efficacy was observed in 163 (79%) patients. The 30-day death rate was 7.7%; of these, 3.4% were due to cardiovascular reasons. All-cause and cardiovascular mortality rates were 9.7% and 4.3% at 1-year follow-up, and 17.4% and 9.7% at 2-year follow-up, respectively. Incidence of ≥ moderate paravalvular leak (PVL) at 30 days, 1 year and 2 years of follow-up were 3.4%, 4.3% and 4.8%. A total of 11.1% of patients required a permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) at 30 days after implantation, while the cumulative rate of PPI at 2 years was 12.1%. Conclusions: In this cohort of patients with SAS, the Myval was found to be safe and effective in up to 2 years of follow-up.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: DNA repair mechanisms are essential for tumorigenesis and disruption of HR mechanism is an important predisposing factor of human breast cancers (BC). PALB2 is an important part of the HR. There are similarities between canine mammary tumours (CMT) and BCs. As its human counterpart, PALB2 mutations could be a predisposing factor of CMT. OBJECTIVES: In this study, we aimed to investigate the impacts of PALB2 variants on tumorigenesis and canine mammary tumor (CMT) malignancy. METHODS: We performed Sanger sequencing to detect germline mutations in the WD40 domain of the canine PALB2 gene in CMT patients. We conducted in silico analysis to investigate the variants, and compared the germline PALB2 mutations in humans that cause breast cancer (BC) with the variants detected in dogs with CMT. RESULTS: We identified an intronic (c.3096+8C>G) variant, two exonic (p.A1050V and p.R1354R) variants, and a 3' UTR variant (c.4071T>C). Of these, p.R1354R and c.4071T>C novel variants were identified for the first time in this study. We found that the p.A1050V mutation had a significant effect. However, we could not determine sufficient similarity due to the differences in nucleotide/amino acid sequences between two species. Nonetheless, possible variants of human sequences in the exact location as their dog counterparts are associated with several cancer types, implying that the variants could be crucial for tumorigenesis in dogs. Our results did not show any effect of the variants on tumor malignancy. CONCLUSIONS: The current project is the first study investigating the relationship between the PALB2 gene WD40 domain and CMTs. Our findings will contribute to a better understanding of the pathogenic mechanism of the PALB2 gene in CMTs. In humans, variant positions in canines have been linked to cancer-related phenotypes such as familial BC, endometrial tumor, and hereditary cancer predisposition syndrome. The results of bioinformatics analyses should be investigated through functional tests or case-control studies.

RESUMEN

In this study, the relationship between RORA 23bp indel genotype and allele frequency with twin pregnancy, fertility, live weight and milk yield in 106 female Akkaraman ewes raised in Elazig province was investigated. In the study conducted in Elâzig province, 10ml milk was collected from 106 Akkaraman sheep and DNA was extracted from these milk. In RORA 23bp indel genotype frequency, DD genotype was found more than ID and II genotypes and RORA 23bp indel in allele frequency, the D allele was found to be higher than the I allele. In both the first and second parity, the twinning rate was found to be lower. In both the first and second parity, the twinning rate was higher in the DD genotype, and it was observed that this genotype prominated middle livestock weight and milk yield. According to the results of our study, mutations in the RORA gene, which is a gene affecting reproductive efficiency in sheep, do not have a positive effect on fertility and twinning rate in Akkaraman sheep. To sum, this study provided theoretical references for the comprehensively research of the function of RORA gene and the breeding of Akkaraman Sheep. The 23-bp indel variants can be considered as molecular markers for litter size of sheep for marker-assisted selection breeding.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Substance P is a peptide from the tachykinin family, which is found in peripheral and central nervous systems, causing vasodilation and increased secretion in the nasal mucosa. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether the experimental model of allergic rhinitis will cause allergic changes in the larynx and to compare the effects of aprepitant, a substance P antagonist, on nasal symptoms in allergic rhinitis, and histopathological changes in the nasal and laryngeal mucosa with antihistamine and leukotriene receptor antagonists (LTRA). STUDY DESIGN: An experimental animal study. METHOD: The study was carried out on 34 healthy 8-12 weeks old female Sprague Dawley rats in 5 groups. The rats in which an experimental allergic rhinitis model was created with ovalbumin were scored by observing their nasal symptoms, and nasal and laryngeal mucous membranes included in the study were evaluated histopathologically after medications. RESULTS: As a result of the analysis of the data obtained from the study, antihistamine and LTRA significantly reduced the symptoms of nose scratching and sneezing, while aprepitant did not affect nasal symptoms. In the histopathological examination of the larynx, effects that would make a significant difference were found in the allergy group when compared to the control group. On the larynx, aprepitant reduced pseudostratification significantly compared to the allergy group. CONCLUSION: Aprepitant provides histopathological changes in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, but does not have sufficient effect on nasal symptoms. The effect of aprepitant on the larynx has not been clearly demonstrated. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: NA Laryngoscope, 133:2891-2897, 2023.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To screen psychological problems of patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) by utilizing the psychological symptom screening test Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and to evaluate the effect of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment. METHODS: The SCL-90-R and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) test were applied to 66 patients with Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI ≥ 30/h) using CPAP device and 20 healthy individuals; the test results were compared. RESULTS: The age of the patients ranged from 28 to 67 years, and the patient group comprised 54 males (81.8%) and 12 females (18.2%). The AHI scores ranged from 30.05 to 99.80, with a mean of 49.34 ± 21.40. Significant improvement was seen in 6 of the 11 SCL-90-R scores in CPAP-treated patients. CONCLUSION: The authors conclude that the SCL-90-R test may be appropriate for evaluating the response to CPAP treatment in OSAS patients and monitoring the psychosocial effects of treatment.

RESUMEN

Background: Evidence that individuals with excess fat in the pancreas have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease has been growing recently. Risk evaluation in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients plays a crucial role for both prognosis prediction and decision-making. Aim: The main aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease (NAFPD) and the complexity and severity of coronary artery disease as assessed using the SYNTAX score (SXscore) in ACS patients. Methods: A total of 99 consecutive patients with a first-time diagnosis of ACS were recruited. NAFPD was evaluated using transabdominal ultrasonography (TUS). SXscore was calculated using the SXscore algorithm. Results: The patients with NAFPD had a significantly higher SXscore than those without NAFPD (12.3 ± 6.4 and 8.2 ± 4.3, p < 0.001). Univariable analysis showed that hypertension (p = 0.033) and presence of NAFPD (p = 0.001) were associated with increased SXscore. Moreover, multivariable analysis showed that the presence of NAFPD (p = 0.002) was associated with increased SXscore. Conclusions: NAFPD is easily detected by TUS. The presence of NAFPD in ACS patients may be a warning signal of complexity and severity of coronary artery disease.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Blunted nocturnal blood pressure (BP) reduction, referred to as non-dipper hypertension, is a strong predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between non-dipper hypertension and the severity and complexity of coronary artery disease using SYNTAX score in hospitalized patients with acute coronary syndrome. METHODS: A total of 306 consecutive patients with acute coronary syndrome were screened. Patients who were clinically stable and admitted to the intermediate intensive care unit at least 24 hours after angiography and/or successful revascularization. After the exclusion criteria, 141 patients (34 female and 107 male; mean age 61 ± 11 years) were included. Non-dipper hypertension has been defined as a 0% to 10% decrease in average systolic BP at nighttime compared to daytime, measured at hourly intervals using the same automatic BP measuring device on bedside monitors (Vismo PVM-2701; Nihon Kohden Corp., Tokyo, Japan). SYNTAX score was calculated with an online calculator. The independent predictors of SYNTAX score were assessed using multivariable logistic regression analysis. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: The patients with non-dipper hypertension had higher SYNTAX score than the patients with dipper hypertension (11.12 ± 6.41 versus 6.74 ± 6.45, p < 0.0001). In a multivariable logistic regression model, non-dipper hypertension status (odds ratio: 5.159; 95% confidence interval: 2.246 to 11.852, p < 0.001), sex (p = 0.012) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (p = 0.008) emerged as independent predictors of high SYNTAX score. CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study provide a possible additional mechanism linking abnormal circadian BP profile with coronary artery disease severity and complexity in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

The characterization of miRNAs from sheep milk and their effect on milk yield and composition in sheep are remain unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the expression pattern of several important miRNAs, which are associated with lactation in the sheep milk between high and low lactating-yield ewe groups. In addition to experimentally obtained miRNA expression results, the miRNA target genes were determined by bioinformatics analysis to identify biological pathways involved. miRNAs found to differ significantly in the expression level between the groups were oar-miR-181a, oar-miR-23a, oar-miR-27a, oar-miR-16b and oar-miR-374. Also, oar-miR-27a was shown negative correlation with milk protein and lactose contents while oar-miR-16b was shown negative correlation with milk yield in the high milk yield group. The highest connected hub genes for miR-27a target genes were determined as MAPK14 and PPARG. Also, six genes (HSPA4L, DNAJA2, ATP6V1B2, PPP2R1A, PPP2R1B, and PRKAR2A) were detected as hub genes for miR-16b. In this study, the relationship between expression profiles of several important miRNAs in sheep milk and milk yield and milk composition were investigated for the first time in high and low lactating yield groups.

RESUMEN

The most common cause of complete atrioventricular block (CAVB) is age-related fibrotic degeneration and is referred to as primary idiopathic complete atrioventricular block (iCAVB). This study aims to investigate the relationship between iCAVB and arterial stiffness using the cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI).In this study, of 205 CAVB patients, 41 patients with iCAVB implanted with a dual-chamber permanent pacemaker and 40 age- and gender-matched controls were studied. Arterial stiffness was assessed by a VaSera VS-1000 CAVI instrument. The CAVI values of patients with iCAVB were significantly higher compared with the controls (9.63 ± 1.42 vs 8.57 ± 1.12, P < .001). Idiopathic complete atrioventricular block frequency was higher among patients with abnormal CAVI values than those with borderline and normal CAVI (P = .04). In multivariate analysis, only CAVI was an independent predictor of iCAVB after adjusting for other relevant factors (odds ratio, 2.575; 95% CI [1.390-4.770]; P = .003). The present study demonstrated that CAVI, as a marker of arterial stiffness, was increased among elderly patients with iCAVB. Thus, we provide a possible additional mechanism linking easily measured CAVI with iCAVB.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: In the present article, we present our first experiences with a new type of balloon-expandable Myval valve (Meril Life Sciences, Gujarat, India). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 25 consecutive patients who underwent transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) from June 2020 to November 2020 were included in the study. RESULTS: The mean age of the study population was 83 (75-87) years; 17 (68%) were female, and 20 (80%) had hypertension. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) score of the group was 5.4% ± 3.5%. TAVI was performed via the transfemoral route on all patients. In 19 (76%) cases, we started the procedure without predilation. In two (10.5%) cases performed without predilation, the prosthesis did not pass the native valve. We had to implant the valve from the descending aorta in one (4%) patient. We used Prostar XL (Abbott Vascular, Santa Clara, CA, USA) for six (24%) patients and ProGlide (Abbott Vascular) for 19 (76%) patients for vascular closure. Two (8%) in-hospital deaths occurred in our study but there were no deaths in the 30-day and 90-day follow-up. Vascular complications were observed in one (4%) patient. None of the patients in our study had severe paravalvular leak (PVL), while two (8%) patients had moderate PVL. A permanent pacemaker (PPM) was required in two (8%) patients for the indication of complete atrioventricular block. The mean hospital stay for the whole group was 4 (3-7) days. CONCLUSION: Based on our experiences, the new balloon-expandable valve Myval is easy to use, efficient, and has only a few negligible drawbacks such as the need for predilation of the sheath. While shaft flexibility may have advantages in some situations including in very tortuous arteries, it may cause some difficulties in alignment of the valves.

RESUMEN

The cardiac sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a worldwide global pandemic, are still uncertain, particularly in the asymptomatic, low cardiac risk outpatient population. This study aims to evaluate the asymptomatic, low cardiac risk out-patient population who recently recovered from COVID-19, using 2-D left ventricular-global longitudinal strain (LV-GLS) proven to be capable of detecting subclinical myocardial injury. Out of 305 COVID-19 positive patients, 70 asymptomatic out-patients were determined as the study group and 70 age and sex-matched healthy adults as the control group. The echocardiographic examination was performed with the Philips IE33 system, and LV-GLS was measured using commercially available software QLAB 9 (cardiac motion quantification; Philips Medical Systems). The absolute value of LV-GLS ≤ 18 did deem to be impaired LV-GLS. The absolute value of LV-GLS was statistically significantly lower in the COVID-19 group than in healthy controls (19.17 ± 2.65 vs. 20.07 ± 2.19, p = 0.03). The correlation between having recovered from COVID-19 and impaired LV-GLS (≤18) did detect with the Pearson correlation test (p = 0.02). Having recovered from COVID-19 was found as a predictor for detecting impaired LV-GLS (≤18) in the multivariable logistic regression analysis (odds ratio, 0.133 (0.038-0.461); 95% CI, p = 0.001). This study suggests that COVID-19 may cause subclinical LV dysfunction detected by LV-GLS during early recovery even in a population of patients at low cardiac risk, asymptomatic, and recovered with home quarantine. The study findings indicate that the long-term cardiovascular follow-up of these patients may be more important than thought.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Stiffness of large arteries has been related to cardiovascular mortality. Cardio-ankle vascular index (CAVI) is a novel marker of arterial stiffness. Herein, we aimed to study the relationship between fragmented QRS (fQRS) in electrocardiogram and CAVI. METHODS: Asymptomatic patients with fQRS and without fQRS were enrolled in the study consecutively. The fQRS complexes were analyzed in the 12-lead electrocardiogram. Arterial stiffness was assessed by using cardio ankle vascular index (CAVI). It was measured by a VaSera VS-1000 CAVI instrument. RESULTS: CAVI values of the patients with fQRS was significantly higher compared to those without fQRS (8.625 (7.9-9.2) versus 6.65 (6.7-8.4) p < .001). In a univariate analysis, it was revealed that there was a significant correlation between increased CAVI and fQRS, age, and epicardial fat thickness. Multiple binary logistic regression analysis revealed that age [95% confidence interval (CI): 1,068-1.214, p < .001] and fQRS [95% (CI): 1.766-23.117, p: 0.005] were the independent determinants of increased CAVI values. CONCLUSIONS: ECG is a widely and readily available, inexpensive, reproducible technique that can be examined by almost every physician. fQRS values in electrocardiogram may provide a significant predictive value for arterial stiffness in asymptomatic subjects.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: P-wave duration and P-wave dispersion (PWD) are thought to be the surrogate marker of devoloping atrial fibrillation (AF). The main purpose of present study was to investigate the association between presystolic wave (PSW), aortic valve sclerosis, and PWD. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with sinus rhythm admitted to the cardiology outpatient clinic were consecutively enrolled. Maximum (Pmax) and minimum (Pmin) P-wave duration and PWD were measured. Echocardiography was used to assess the aortic valve morphology and presence of PSW. The patients were divided into two groups according to presence or absence of AVSc and PSW. RESULTS: A total of 100 patients were enrolled consecutively. Patients with both PSW and AVSc had higher PWD values compared with those without PSW (42 ± 15 vs 65 ± 20) and AVSc (52 ± 21 vs 69 ± 19). The patients were categorized on the basis of median PWD values. According to univariate analysis, there was significant association between PWD and presence of PSW (P: .004), presence of AVS (P: .011), hypertension (P: .01) interventricular septal thickness (IVST) (P: .026), and posterior wall thickness (PWT) (P: .022). Multivariate logistic regression analyses demonstrated presence of PSW (95% confidence interval (1.058-6.505, P: .037) as an independent determinant of PWD. CONCLUSION: Assessment of presystolic A-wave on echocardiography examination may provide important information regarding the atrial conduction velocities that is a electrophysiological cause of AF. While there was a significant association between AVSc and PWD in univariate analysis, this significance disappeared in multivariate analysis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: New-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) is a frequent cause of presentation to the emergency department (ED). Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) is associated with the presence and recurrence of AF. However, no study has investigated the predictors of the time to conversion of AF to sinus rhythm with amiodarone therapy. The aim of this study was to investigate predictors of time to conversion of AF to sinus rhythm in patients with new-onset AF. METHODS: A total of 122 patients admitted to the ED with symptoms of hemodynamically stable new-onset AF (lasting <48 hours) were registered consecutively. These patients received intravenous amiodarone. EFT was measured using 2D echocardiography in parasternal long-axis views. RESULTS: A significant positive correlation was determined between EFT and conversion time (rho = 0.267, P = .017) in all patients. The median time for conversion from the start of amiodarone infusion was 410 min (150-830 minutes). Based on the median conversion time, patients were classified as early conversion (time < 410 minutes; n = 41) and late conversion (time > 410 minutes; n = 40). Multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated that EFT (P = .033, odds ratio [OR]: 1.68, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.6-2.7), higher troponin I level > 0.04 (P = .034, OR: 5.3, 95% CI: 1.1-24.8), and lower age (P = .003, OR: 0.8, 95% CI: 0.8-0.9) were significantly associated with longer conversion time. CONCLUSIONS: We determined that EFT and high troponin level affected the time to conversion to sinus rhythm in patients with new-onset AF.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Despite improvements in treatment of ST-segment myocardial infarction (STEMI), thrombus formation in the left ventricle is still a concerning complication that may lead to systemic thromboembolism and stroke. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the predictive value of estimated whole blood viscosity (WBV) for left ventricular thrombus development in patients surviving an acute anterior myocardial infarction (AAMI).MATERIALS \& METHODS:Seven hundred eighty AAMI patients who were treated percutaneously were enrolled consecutively. Serial echocardiographic examinations were performed within 24h of admission, before hospital discharge, and at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months following hospital discharge. WBV was calculated according to de Simones formula. RESULTS: One hundred patients (12.8%) developed thrombus formation within one year following AAMI. Patients with left ventricular thrombus (LVT) had significantly higher WBV values. Supramedian values of WBV at both low (0.5 sec-1) and high (208 sec-1) shear rates were found to be an independent predictor of LVT development. CONCLUSION: As an easily accessible parameter, WBV might be a useful predictor of LVT formation within one year following acute anterior myocardial infarction.

RESUMEN

The main aim of this study was to investigate the relation between anterior tragal crease (ATC) and coronary artery lesion complexity and severity assessed using the SYNTAX score (SXscore) in patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). A total of 121 patients with a first-time diagnosis of NSTEMI were consecutively enrolled. ATC was defined as ≥1 crease that was close to the tragus and descended anteriorly. SXscore was calculated using the SXscore algorithm. The SXscore was higher in the ATC-positive group than in the ATC-negative group (11.85 ± 8.20 vs 7.52 ± 6.38, P = .003). In the univariate analysis, hemoglobin (male: 11.7-17.4 g/dL, female: 11.7-16.1 g/dL; P = .006), diabetes mellitus (P = .031), current smoking (P = .022), and presence of ATC (P = .022) were significantly associated with increased SXscore. Multivariate analysis revealed ATC (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.313-7.800, P = .011), current smoking (95% CI: 2.034-13.893, P = .001), and hemoglobin (95% CI: 0.433-0.822, P = .002) as independent determinants of increased SXscore. Anterior tragal crease is easily detected by physical examination. Presence of ATC in patients with NSTEMI may be a warning signal of complexity and severity of coronary artery disease (CAD).

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Early diagnosis of diffuse alveolar haemorrhage (DAH) can be extremely difficult, as the common clinical picture is often attributed to more common clinical conditions. High degree of suspicion is key to diagnosis which can be much more difficult during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. CASE SUMMARY: A 61-year-old man with inferolateral ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction treated by a stent to the left circumflex artery and intravenous abciximab treatment was started for the high thrombus burden. Two hours later, the patient developed dyspnoea and hypoxaemia. Chest examination revealed diffuse rales over both lung fields. Chest X-ray revealed bilateral diffuse alveolar infiltrates, while the echocardiography was normal. Chest computed tomography (CT) was performed and the 'crazy paving appearance', which is the typical radiological finding of COVID-19, was reported. The patient was considered to be suspected of COVID-19 and was transferred to a quarantine unit. Real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was obtained and azithromycin and hydroxychloroquine were initiated. 48 h later, 2.6 mmol/L reduction was observed in haemoglobin levels and haemoptysis was developed. After the second negative RT-PCR with an interval of 24 h, CT was repeated and the patient was diagnosed to have abciximab-induced DAH. The patient was later followed up conventionally and discharged after two weeks without additional complications. DISCUSSION: DAH and COVID-19 might share common clinical and radiological findings during examination. The physicians must be aware of the high motivation of the COVID-19 pandemic which can lead to misdiagnosis by overlooking other important clinical conditions.

RESUMEN

Cardiac blood cysts are confirmed by autopsies in stillbirths but rarely detected in adults. Although cardiac blood cysts are common in newborns, they disappear within a few months after birth. These cysts are blood-filled diverticula surrounded by endothelium. Their possible etiology is invaginations of atrial endothelium into the stroma of atrioventricular valves. Most blood cysts originate from the left side of the heart and are located on the atrioventricular valves. Complication is followed in very little cases, such as embolic stroke, valvular dysfunction, and ventricular outflow system obstruction. The blood cysts leading to complications should be removed surgically.
