RESUMEN
A gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor is one of the most promising materials integrated into biomedical devices to play the roles of connecting, monitoring, and manipulating the activity of biological components, due to its excellent photoelectric properties, chemical stability, and biocompatibility. In this work, it was found that the photogenerated free charge carriers of the GaN substrate, as an exogenous stimulus, served to promote neural stem cells (NSCs) to differentiate into neurons. This was observed through the systematic investigation of the effect of the persistent photoconductivity (PPC) of GaN on the differentiation of primary NSCs from the embryonic rat cerebral cortex. NSCs were directly cultured on the GaN surface with and without ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, with a control sample consisting of tissue culture polystyrene (TCPS) in the presence of fetal bovine serum (FBS) medium. Through optical microscopy, the morphology showed a greater number of neurons with the branching structures of axons and dendrites on GaN with UV irradiation. The immunocytochemical results demonstrated that GaN with UV irradiation could promote the NSCs to differentiate into neurons. Western blot analysis showed that GaN with UV irradiation significantly upregulated the expression of two neuron-related markers, ßIII-tubulin (Tuj-1) and microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP-2), suggesting that neurite formation and the proliferation of NSCs during differentiation were enhanced by GaN with UV irradiation. Finally, the results of the Kelvin probe force microscope (KPFM) experiments showed that the NSCs cultured on GaN with UV irradiation displayed about 50 mV higher potential than those cultured on GaN without irradiation. The increase in cell membrane potential may have been due to the larger number of photogenerated free charges on the GaN surface with UV irradiation. These results could benefit topical research and the application of GaN as a biomedical material integrated into neural interface systems or other bioelectronic devices.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly prevalent cancer with a significant impact on human health. Curcumin, a natural compound, induces cytoskeletal changes in liver cancer cells and modifies the distribution of lipids, proteins, and polysaccharides on plasma membranes, affecting their mechanical and electrical properties. In this study, we used nanomechanical indentation techniques and Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) to investigate the changes in surface nanomechanical and electrical properties of nuclear and cytoplasmic regions of HepG2 cells in response to increasing curcumin concentrations. CCK-8 assays and flow cytometry results demonstrated time- and concentration-dependent inhibition of HepG2 cell proliferation by curcumin. Increasing curcumin concentration led to an initial increase and then decrease in the mechanical properties of nuclear and cytoplasmic regions of HepG2 cells, represented by the Young's modulus (E), as observed through nanoindentation. KPFM measurements indicated decreasing trends in both cell surface potential and height. Fluorescence microscopy results indicated a positive correlation between curcumin concentration and phosphatidylserine translocation from the inner to the outer membrane, which influenced the electrical properties of HepG2 cells. This study provides valuable insights into curcumin's mechanisms against cancer cells and aids nanoscale evaluation of therapeutic efficacy and drug screening.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra (SN). Microglia-mediated neuroinflammation has been largely considered one of main factors to the PD pathology. MicroRNA-218-5p (miR-218-5p) is a microRNA that plays a role in neurodevelopment and function, while its potential function in PD and neuroinflammation remains unclear. METHODS: We explore the involvement of miR-218-5p in the PD in a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced mouse model. The miR-218-5p agomir used for overexpression was delivered into the substantia nigra (SN) by bilateral stereotaxic infusions. The loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons and microglial inflammation in the SN was determined using Western blotting and immunofluorescence. Motor function was assessed using the rotarod test. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) was performed to explore the pathways regulated by miR-218-5p. The target genes of miR-218-5p were predicted using TargetScan and confirmed using dual luciferase reporter assays. The effects of miR-218-5p on microglial inflammation and related pathways were verified in murine microglia-like BV2 cells. To stimulate BV2 cells, SH-SY5Y cells were treated with 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+) and the conditioned media (CM) were collected. RESULTS: MiR-218-5p expression was reduced in both the SN of MPTP-induced mice and MPP+-treated BV2 cells. MiR-218-5p overexpression significantly alleviated MPTP-induced microglial inflammation, loss of DA neurons, and motor dysfunction. RNA sequence and gene set enrichment analysis showed that type I interferon (IFN-I) pathways were upregulated in MPTP-induced mice, while this upregulation was reversed by miR-218-5p overexpression. A luciferase reporter assay verified that Ddx41 was a target gene of miR-218-5p. In vitro, miR-218-5p overexpression or Ddx41 knockdown inhibited the IFN-I response and expression of inflammatory cytokines in BV2 cells stimulated with MPP+-CM. CONCLUSIONS: MiR-218-5p suppresses microglia-mediated neuroinflammation and preserves DA neurons via Ddx41/IFN-I. Hence, miR-218-5p-Ddx41 is a promising therapeutic target for PD.

Fast increased amount of excess activated sludge (EAS) from wastewater treatment plants has aroused universal concerns on its environmental risks and demands for appropriate treatments, while effective treatment is dependent upon proper pretreatment. In this study, air-supplied microbubbles (air-MBs) with generated size of 25.18 to 28.25 µm were used for EAS pretreatment. Different durations (30, 60, 90, and 120 s) yielded sludge with varied physiochemical conditions, and 60 s decreased sludge oxidation status and significantly increased adenosine triphosphate (ATP) content. Soluble, loosely-bound, and tightly-bound extracellular polymeric substances (SEPS, LB-EPS, and TB-EPS) were extracted from the sludge through a stepwise approach and examined through three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix (3D-EEM) and quantitative analysis. The results showed that 60- and 120-s treatments generated stronger fluorescence intensities on dissolved organic matters (DOMs) of protein-like and fulvic acid in LB-EPS and TB-EPS, which indicated the decrease of counterparts in EAS, and therefore facilitated sludge dewaterability and reduction. The dominant microbial communities in EAS, including Proteobacteria, Bacteroidota, Chloroflexi, and Actinobacteriota, were not significantly affected by MB pretreatment. The results collectively revealed the effects of MB pretreatment on EAS and indicated that MBs could be an effective pretreatment technique for EAS treatment process.

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD), which is associated to autoimmune disorders, is characterized by the pathological deposition of alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) and loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons. Th17 cells are thought to be responsible for the direct loss of DA neurons. C-C chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5) specifically induces Th17 cell infiltration into the SN. However, the specific effect of CCL5 on Th17 cells in PD and the relationship between CCL5 and lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) expression in Th17 cells are unknown. Methods: We evaluated the effects of CCL5 on LFA-1 expression in Th17 cells in mice treated with 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) and examined Th17 cell differentiation upon CCL5 stimulation in vitro. Furthermore, we assessed the effects of CCL5 on tyrosine kinase zeta-chain-associated protein kinase 70 (ZAP70) and lymphocyte-specific protein tyrosine kinase (LCK) activity in CCL5-stimulated Th17 cells in vivo and in vitro. Results: CCL5 increased the proportion of peripheral Th17 cells in MPTP-treated mice, LFA-1 expression on Th17 cells, and Th17 cell levels in the SN of MPTP-treated mice. CCL5 promoted Th17 cell differentiation and LFA-1 expression in naive T cells in vitro. Moreover, CCL5 increased Th17 cell differentiation and LFA-1 expression by stimulating LCK and ZAP70 activation in naive CD4+ T cells. Inhibiting LCK and ZAP70 activation reduced the proportion of peripheral Th17 cells and LFA-1 surface expression in MPTP-treated mice, and Th17 cell levels in the SN also significantly decreased. Conclusion: CCL5, which increased Th17 cell differentiation and LFA-1 protein expression by activating LCK and ZAP70, could increase the Th17 cell number in the SN, induce DA neuron death and aggravate PD.
RESUMEN
Backgrounds: The relationship between kidney function and cognitive impairment in Parkinson's disease (PD) is poorly understood and underexplored. This study aims to explore whether renal indices can serve as indicators to monitor the cognitive impairment of PD. Methods: A total of 508 PD patients and 168 healthy controls from the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) were recruited, and 486 (95.7%) PD patients underwent longitudinal measurements. The renal indicators including serum creatinine (Scr), uric acid (UA), and urea nitrogen, as well as UA/Scr ratio and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), were measured. Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between kidney function and cognitive impairment were evaluated using multivariable-adjusted models. Results: eGFR was associated with lower levels of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) Aß1-42 (p = 0.0156) and α-synuclein (p = 0.0151) and higher serum NfL (p = 0.0215) in PD patients at baseline. Longitudinal results showed that decreased eGFR predicted a higher risk of cognitive impairment (HR = 0.7382, 95% CI = 0.6329-0.8610). Additionally, eGFR decline was significantly associated with higher rates of increase in CSF T-tau (p = 0.0096), P-tau (p = 0.0250), and serum NfL (p = 0.0189), as well as global cognition and various cognitive domains (p < 0.0500). The reduced UA/Scr ratio was also linked to higher NfL levels (p = 0.0282) and greater accumulation of T-tau (p = 0.0282) and P-tau (p = 0.0317). However, no significant associations were found between other renal indices and cognition. Conclusion: eGFR is altered in PD subjects with cognitive impairment, and predict larger progression of cognitive decline. It may assist identifying patients with PD at risk of rapid cognitive decline and have the potential to monitoring responses to therapy in future clinical practice.
RESUMEN
Neuroinflammation plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD), but controversies persist. Studies reporting concentrations of blood or cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) markers for patients with PD and controls were included and extracted. Pooled Hedges'g was adopted to illustrate comparisons, and covariates were used to explore sources of heterogeneity. Finally, 152 studies were included. Increased IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1ß, STNFR1, CRP, CCL2, CX3CL1, and CXCL12 levels and decreased INF-γ and IL-4 levels were noted in the PD group. In addition, increased CSF levels of IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1ß, CRP and CCL2 were revealed in patients with PD compared to controls. Consequently, significantly altered levels of inflammatory markers were verified between PD group and control, suggesting that PD is accompanied by inflammatory responses in both the peripheral blood and CSF. This study was registered with PROSPERO, CRD42022349182.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons (DA) and the accumulation of Lewy body deposits composed of alpha-Synuclein (α-Syn), which act as antigenic epitopes to drive cytotoxic T-cell responses in PD. Increased T helper 17 (Th17) cells and dysfunctional regulatory T cells (Tregs) have been reported to be associated with the loss of DA in PD. However, the mechanism underlying the Th17/Treg imbalance remains unknown. METHODS: Here, we examined the percentage of Th17 cells, the percentage of Tregs and the α-Syn level and analysed their correlations in the peripheral blood of PD patients and in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) and spleen of MPTP-treated mice and A53 transgenic mice. We assessed the effect of α-Syn on the stability and function of Tregs and the differentiation of Th17 cells and evaluated the role of retinoid-related orphan nuclear receptor (RORγt) upregulation in α-Syn stimulation in vivo and in vitro. RESULTS: We found that the α-Syn level and severity of motor symptoms were positively correlated with the increase in Th17 cells and decrease in Tregs in PD patients. Moreover, α-Syn stimulation led to the loss of Forkhead box protein P3 (FOXP3) expression in Tregs, accompanied by the acquisition of IL-17A expression. Increased Th17 differentiation was detected upon α-Syn stimulation when naïve CD4+ T cells were cultured under Th17-polarizing conditions. Mechanistically, α-Syn promotes the transcription of RORC, encoding RORγt, in Tregs and Th17 cells, leading to increased Th17 differentiation and loss of Treg function. Intriguingly, the increase in Th17 cells, decrease in Tregs and apoptosis of DA were suppressed by a RORγt inhibitor (GSK805) in MPTP-treated mice. CONCLUSION: Together, our data suggest that α-Syn promotes the transcription of RORC in circulating CD4+ T cells, including Tregs and Th17 cells, to impair the stability of Tregs and promote the differentiation of Th17 cells in PD. Inhibition of RORγt attenuated the apoptosis of DA and alleviated the increase in Th17 cells and decrease in Tregs in PD.

BACKGROUNDS: Freezing of gait (FOG) and cognitive impairment are serious symptoms of Parkinson's disease (PD). Understanding the association between FOG and cognition may help formulate specific interventions for PD individuals. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to investigate the associations of cognitive impairment in different domains with FOG status using multiple neuropsychological tests. METHODS: Two cohorts including 691 and 104 participants were recruited from Parkinson's progression markers initiative (PPMI) and central China, respectively. All participants underwent FOG assessment and neuropsychological tests, and 595 individuals from PPMI and 51 from central China were enrolled for longitudinal observation. Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between cognition and FOG status were evaluated using multivariable-adjusted models. RESULTS: Worse cognitive performances were observed in patients with FOG compared to those without FOG in both cohorts (ß = - 0.020, p < 0.001) using multivariate-adjusted models. Moreover, patients with progressive FOG during follow-up manifested more serious cognitive declines (HR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.07-1.80). The FOG was mainly associated with the decline of executive, attention, and orientation. Furthermore, FOG was associated with higher levels of cognition-related biomarkers including T-tau, P-tau, and NfL in cerebrospinal fluid (p < 0.050). CONCLUSIONS: FOG is a risk factor for cognitive decline in PD, which emphasizes the need for early detection and monitoring of cognitive changes and interventions on cognitive impairments in PD patients with FOG.

Background: Soluble fragment of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a biomarker of microglial activation and increased in several neurodegenerative diseases. However, the role of sTREM2 in Parkinson's diseases (PDs) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate whether CSF sTREM2 is changed during the pathology of PD and its association with cognitive decline. Methods: We recruited 219 de novo patients with PD and 100 healthy controls from Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI). Cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between cognition and CSF sTREM2 were evaluated using multivariable-adjusted models. To assess the changes in CSF sTREM2 during the pathology of PD, patients were classified through the A/T classification framework with addition of α-synuclein (α-syn), which we implemented based on the CSF amyloid ß-peptide 1-42 (A) and phosphorylated tau (T) and α-syn (S). Results: The CSF sTREM2 did not differ between healthy controls and patients with PD or between PD clinical subgroups (p > 0.05). However, higher baseline CSF sTREM2 predicted greater global cognitive decline in patients with PD (ß = -0.585, p = 0.039). Moreover, after a mean follow-up of 5.51 ± 1.31 years, baseline CSF sTREM2 that elevated in the middle tertile (HR = 2.426, 95% CI: 1.023-5.754, p = 0.044) and highest tertile (HR = 2.833, 95% CI: 1.226-6.547, p = 0.015) were associated with a future high risk of cognitive decline. Additionally, CSF sTREM2 decreased in abnormal Aß pathology (A+) and α-syn pathology (S+) but normal tau pathology, while increased in abnormal phosphorylated tau (T+) (p < 0.05). Conclusion: CSF sTREM2 may be a promising predictor for the cognitive decline in PD rather than a diagnostic biomarker. The dynamic change in CSF sTREM2 in PD may help to the monitor of neuronal injury and microglial activity.

Backgrounds: Apathy is common in Parkinson's disease (PD) but difficult to identify. Growing evidence suggests that abnormal iron metabolism is associated with apathy in PD. We aimed to investigate the clinical features and iron metabolism of apathetic patients with PD, and construct a nomogram for predicting apathy in PD. Methods: Data of 201 patients with PD were analyzed. Demographic data, Apathy Scale (AS) assessments, and serum iron metabolism parameters were obtained. Spearman correlations were used to assess relationships between AS scores and iron metabolism parameters, separately for male and female patients. Additionally, a nomograph for detecting apathetic patients with PD was built based on the results of logistic regression analysis. Results: The serum transferrin (TRF, pâ<â0.0024) concentration and total iron binding capacity (TIBC, pâ<â0.0024) were lower in the apathetic group after Bonferroni correction, and they were negatively associated with AS scores in male participants with PD (TRF, r = -0.27, p = 0.010; TIBC, r = -0.259, p = 0.014). The nomogram was developed by incorporating the following five parameters: age, sex, serum iron concentration, TIBC and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD) scores, which showed good discrimination and calibration, with a consistency index of 0.799 (95% confidence interval = 0.732-0.865). Conclusion: Abnormal iron metabolism may contribute to apathy in PD, especially among men. TIBC levels in combination with HAMD scores can be effectively used for the prediction of apathetic patients with PD.
RESUMEN
We introduce an alternative distribution to the gamma-gamma (GG) distribution, called inverse Gaussian gamma (IGG) distribution, which can efficiently describe moderate-to-strong irradiance fluctuations. The proposed stochastic model is based on a modulation process between small- and large-scale irradiance fluctuations, which are modeled by gamma and inverse Gaussian distributions, respectively. The model parameters of the IGG distribution are directly related to atmospheric parameters. The accuracy of the fit among the IGG, log-normal, and GG distributions with the experimental probability density functions in moderate-to-strong turbulence are compared, and results indicate that the newly proposed IGG model provides an excellent fit to the experimental data. As the receiving diameter is comparable with the atmospheric coherence radius, the proposed IGG model can reproduce the shape of the experimental data, whereas the GG and LN models fail to match the experimental data. The fundamental channel statistics of a free-space optical communication system are also investigated in an IGG-distributed turbulent atmosphere, and a closed-form expression for the outage probability of the system is derived with Meijer's G-function.
RESUMEN
Orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode crosstalk induced by atmospheric turbulence is a challenging phenomenon commonly occurring in OAM-based free-space optical (FSO) communication. Recent advances have facilitated new practicable methods using abruptly autofocusing light beams for weakening the turbulence effect on the FSO link. In this work, we show that a circular phase-locked Airy vortex beam array (AVBA) with sufficient elements has the inherent ability to form an abruptly autofocusing light beam carrying OAM, and its focusing properties can be controlled on demand by adjusting the topological charge values and locations of these vortices embedded in the array elements. The performance of a tailored Airy vortex beam array (TAVBA) through atmospheric turbulence is numerically studied. In a comparison with the ring Airy vortex beam (RAVB), the results indicate that TAVBA can be a superior light source for effectively reducing the intermodal crosstalk and vortex splitting, thus leading to improvement in the FSO system performance.
RESUMEN
Based on the complex-source-point method and the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory, the scattering properties and polarization of aerosol particles by a Hermite-Gaussian (HG) beam in marine atmosphere is investigated. The influences of beam mode, beam width, and humidity on the scattered field are analyzed numerically. Results indicate that when the number of HG beam modes u (v) increase, the radar cross section of aerosol particles alternating appears at maximum and minimum values in the forward and backward scattering, respectively, because of the special petal-shaped distribution of the HG beam. The forward and backward scattering of aerosol particles decreases with the increase in beam waist. When beam waist is less than the radius of the aerosol particle, a minimum value is observed in the forward direction. The scattering properties of aerosol particles by the HG beam are more sensitive to the change in relative humidity compared with those by the plane wave and the Gaussian beam (GB). The HG beam shows superiority over the plane wave and the GB in detecting changes in the relative humidity of marine atmosphere aerosol. The effects of relative humidity on the polarization of the HG beam have been numerically analyzed in detail.
RESUMEN
The probability densities of orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes of the autofocusing Airy beam (AAB) carrying power-exponent-phase vortex (PEPV) after passing through the weak anisotropic non-Kolmogorov turbulent atmosphere are theoretically formulated. It is found that the AAB carrying PEPV is the result of the weighted superposition of multiple OAM modes at differing positions within the beam cross-section, and the mutual crosstalk among different OAM modes will compensate the distortion of each OAM mode and be helpful for boosting the anti-jamming performance of the communication link. Based on numerical calculations, the role of the wavelength, waist width, topological charge and power order of PEPV in the probability density distribution variations of OAM modes of the AAB carrying PEPV is explored. Analysis shows that a relatively small beam waist and longer wavelength are good for separating the detection regions between signal OAM mode and crosstalk OAM modes. The probability density distribution of the signal OAM mode does not change obviously with the topological charge variation; but it will be greatly enhanced with the increase of power order. Furthermore, it is found that the detection region center position of crosstalk OAM mode is an emergent property resulting from power order and topological charge. Therefore, the power order can be introduced as an extra steering parameter to modulate the probability density distributions of OAM modes. These results provide guidelines for the design of an optimal detector, which has potential application in optical vortex communication systems.

BACKGROUND: Sodium copper chlorophyllin (SCC), as one of the derivatives of chlorophyll - with its inherent green features; good stability for heat, light, acids and alkalies; unique antimicrobial capability; and particular deodori zation performance - is widely applied in some fields such as the food industry, medicine and health care, daily cosmetic industry etc. SCC, as one of the metal porphyrins, has attracted much attention because of its unique electronic band structure and photon conversion performance. To promote the application of SCC in materials science; energy research and photonics, such as fast optical communications; and its use in nonlinear optical materials, solar photovoltaic cells, all-optical switches, optical limiters and saturable absorbers, great efforts should be dedicated to studying its nonlinear optical (NLO) properties. METHODS: In this study, the absorption spectra and NLO properties of SCC in aqueous solution at different concentrations were measured. The Z-scan technique was used to determine NLO properties. RESULTS: The results indicated that the absorption spectra of SCC exhibit 2 characteristic absorption peaks located at the wavelengths 405 and 630 nm, and the values of the peaks increase with increasing SCC concentration. The results also showed that SCC exhibits reverse saturation absorption and negative nonlinear refraction (self-defocusing). CONCLUSIONS: It can be seen that SCC has good optical nonlinearity which will be convenient for applications in materials science, energy research and photonics.

An anisotropic power spectrum of the refractive-index fluctuation in hypersonic turbulence was obtained by processing the experimental image of the hypersonic plasma sheath and transforming the generalized anisotropic von Kármán spectrum. The power spectrum suggested here can provide as good a fit to measured spectrum data for hypersonic turbulence as that recorded from the nano-planar laser scattering image. Based on the newfound anisotropic hypersonic turbulence power spectrum, Rytov approximation was employed to establish the wave structure function and the spatial coherence radius model of electromagnetic beam propagation in hypersonic turbulence. Enhancing the anisotropy characteristics of the hypersonic turbulence led to a significant improvement in the propagation performance of electromagnetic beams in hypersonic plasma sheath. The influence of hypersonic turbulence on electromagnetic beams increases with the increase of variance of the refractive-index fluctuation and the decrease of turbulence outer scale and anisotropy parameters. The spatial coherence radius was much smaller than that in atmospheric turbulence. These results are fundamental to understanding electromagnetic wave propagation in hypersonic turbulence.
RESUMEN
Rytov theory was employed to establish the transmission model for the optical vortices carried by Bessel-Gaussian (BG) beams in weak anisotropic turbulence based on the generalized anisotropic von Karman spectrum. The influences of asymmetry anisotropic turbulence eddies and source parameters on the signal orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode detection probability of partially coherent BG beams in anisotropic turbulence were discussed. Anisotropic characteristics of the turbulence could enhance the OAM mode transmission performance. The spatial partially coherence of the beam source would increase turbulent aberration's effect on the optical vortices. BG beams could dampen the influences of the turbulence because of their nondiffraction and self-healing characteristics.
RESUMEN
The analytical formulas for the orbital angular momentum (OAM) mode probability density, signal OAM mode detection probability, and spiral spectrum of partially coherent Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beams with optical vortices propagation in weak horizontal oceanic turbulent channels were developed, based on the Rytov approximation theory. The effect of oceanic turbulence and beam source parameters on the propagation behavior of the optical vortices carried by partially coherent LG beams was investigated in detail. Our results indicated that optical turbulence in an ocean environment produced a much stronger effect on the optical vortex than that in an atmosphere environment; the effective range of the signal OAM mode of LG beams with a smaller ratio of the mode crosstalk was limited to only several tens of meters in turbulent ocean. The existence of oceanic turbulence evidently induced OAM mode crosstalk and spiral spectrum spread. The effects of oceanic turbulence on the OAM mode detection probability increased with the increase of radial and azimuthal mode orders, oceanic turbulent equivalent temperature structure parameter, and temperature-salinity balance parameter. The spatial partial coherence of the beam source would enhance the effect of turbulent aberrations on the signal OAM mode detection probability, and fully coherent vortex beams provided better performance than partially coherent ones. Increasing wavelength of the vortex beams would help improve the performance of this quantum optical communication system. These results might be of interest for the potential application of optical vortices in practical underwater quantum optical communication among divers, submarines, and sensors in the ocean environment.
RESUMEN
We demonstrated an asymmetric 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine betaines with alkylidene malonates by using a chiral N,N'-dioxide-Ni(II) complex as a catalyst. Both aromatic- and aliphatic-substituted alkylidene malonates were found to be suitable for the reaction. A range of trans-pyrazolone derivatives was exclusively obtained with excellent yields (up to 99% yield) and good enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee) under mild reaction conditions. The reaction could be carried out on a gram scale with the good results being maintained. Control experiments were performed to elucidate the specific diastereoselectivity of the reaction. The formation of single trans isomers was dominated by secondary orbital interactions between the ester groups of the dipolarophile and the azomethine imine. On the basis of the experimental results and previous reports, a possible catalytic model was assumed.
