Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of a new tibial plateau posterolateral column universal locking anatomical plate (hereinafter referred to as "new universal locking anatomical plate") in the treatment of tibial plateau posterolateral column fractures. Methods: Between October 2020 and December 2021, 14 patients with tibial plateau posterolateral column fracture were treated with a new universal locking anatomical plate. There were 7 males and 7 females with an average age of 59 years ranging from 29 to 75 years. There were 5 cases on the left side and 9 cases on the right side. The causes of injury included falling from height in 5 cases, traffic accident in 7 cases, and other injuries in 2 cases. The time from injury to operation ranged from 3 to 10 days, with an average of 6 days. According to Schatzker classification, there were 4 cases of type Ⅱ, 8 cases of type Ⅴ, and 2 cases of type Ⅵ. All fractures involved the posterolateral tibial plateau. Three column classification: two columns (anterolateral column+posterior column) in 4 cases, three columns in 10 cases. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, fracture healing, and complications were recorded. The reduction of tibial plateau fracture was evaluated by Rasmussen radiographic score, and the recovery of knee function was evaluated by Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score. Results: All 14 cases completed the operation successfully. The operation time was 95-180 minutes, with an average of 154 minutes, and the intraoperative blood loss was 100-480 mL, with an average of 260 mL. All patients were followed up 6-19 months, with an average of 12.5 months. All fractures healed, and the healing time was 15-24 weeks, with an average of 18.7 weeks. During the follow-up, there was 1 case of common peroneal nerve palsy and 1 case of traumatic osteoarthritis. There was no other complication such as vascular injury, incision infection, deep venous thrombosis of lower limbs, heterotopic ossification, bone nonunion, and failure of internal fixation. The reduction of tibial plateau fractures was good immediately after operation, and the Rasmussen radiological score was 10-18, with an average of 15.7; 3 cases were excellent, 10 cases were good, and 1 case was fair, with an excellent and good rate of 92.9%. The scores and grades of HSS at 3 months after operation and at last follow-up significantly improved when compared with those before operation ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference between 3 months after operation and last follow-up ( P>0.05). Conclusion: For the fractures involving the posterolateral column of the tibial plateau, the new universal locking anatomical plate can provide strong fixation, satisfactory postoperative fracture reduction, and good recovery of knee function.

Sympathectomy of arteries has been adopted for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease and Raynaud's disease. However, the exact route for sympathetic axons to reach peripheral arteries awaits further investigation that could pave the way for development of new surgical strategies. In this study, saphenous neurovascular bundles from 10 neonatal Sprague-Dawley rats first were harvested for whole-mount immunostaining to show sympathetic innervation pattern of the artery. Secondly, 40 Sprague-Dawley male rats weighing 350 to 400 g were assigned to five groups, receiving either sham, perivascular sympathectomy, nerve-artery separation, nerve transection in the saphenous neurovascular bundle, or lumbar sympathectomy surgery that removes the lumbar sympathetic trunks. Immediately after surgery, the arterial perfusion and diameter were measured using laser speckling contrast imaging, and 1 week later the saphenous neurovascular bundles were harvested for immunostaining using antibodies against TH, neuron-specific ß-tubulin (Tuj 1), and α-SMA to show the presence or absence of the TH-immuopositive staining in the adventitia. The differences among the five groups were determined using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). We found that an average of 2.8 ± 0.8 branches with a diameter of 4.8 ± 1.2 µm derived from the saphenous nerve that morphed into a primary and a secondary sympathetic trunk for innervation of the saphenous artery. Nerve-artery separation, nerve transection, and lumbar sympathectomy could eradicate TH-immunopositive staining of the artery, resulting, respectively, in a 12%, 36%, and 59% increase in diameter (P < .05), and a 52%, 63%, and 201% increase in perfusion compared with sham surgery (P < .01). In contrast, perivascular sympathectomy did not have a significant impact on the TH-immunopositive staining, the diameter, and perfusion of the distal part of the artery (P > .05). We conclude that the sympathetic innervation of an artery derives from segmental branches given off from its accompanying nerve. Nerve-artery disconnection is a theoretic option in sympathectomy of an artery.

Structural remodeling of pulmonary artery plays an important role in maintaining sustained pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). The anti-remodeling effects of statins have been reported in systemic hypertension. In this study, we studied the effects of atovastatin (Ato) or losartan (Los) in monocrotaline (MCL)-induced pulmonary artery remodeling using a rat model. Forty Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly assigned into four groups (n = 10): normal control (Ctr), PAH, PAH treated with Los, and PAH treated with Ato. We found that in the Los- or Ato-treated group, the mean pulmonary arterial pressure, right heart hypertrophy index, ratio of wall/lumen thickness (WT%), as well as the wall/lumen area (WA%) were significantly reduced compared to the PAH group. Also in pulmonary arteries dissected from rats in the Ato- or Los-treated group, in both mRNA and protein levels, the expression of α1C subunit of voltage-gated calcium channel (Ca(v)α1c) was downregulated, while sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum calcium-ATPase (SERCA-2a) and inositol 1,4,5 triphosphate receptor 1 (IP3R-1) upregulated. However, the mRNA level of RyR-3 subunit of calcium regulating channel was increased, whereas its protein level was reduced in the treated groups. Our results suggest that atorvastatin or losartan may regress the remodeling of the pulmonary artery in pulmonary hypertensive rats, with differential expression of calcium regulating channels.
