RESUMEN

The number of cases of pertussis has been increasing since 2014 in China, with high prevalence of macrolide resistance in ptxP1 isolates and low prevalence in ptxP3 isolates. This study aimed to investigate the dynamic changes in the B. pertussis population from paediatric patients and household contacts in Shanghai between 2018 and 2022. Clinical data of laboratory-confirmed cases of pertussis were analysed, while isolates recovered from hospitalized children and household contacts were characterized by antimicrobial susceptibility testing, whole-genome sequencing, vaccine antigen gene typing and phylogenetical analysis. Among 640 laboratory-confirmed cases, 340 (53.1%) were fully vaccinated with DTaP and 114 (17.8%) were hospitalized for treatment. The frequency of erythromycin resistance in the 103 B. pertussis isolates from inpatients (n=73) and household contacts (n=30) was 78.6% (81/103), increasing from 65% (13/20) in 2018 to 100% (26/26) in 2022. The proportion of ptxP3 isolates increased from 35% (7/20) in 2018 to 100% (26/26) in 2022. Based on genomic analysis, a novel ptxP3 clone (MT28-Shanghai) belonging to sublineage IVd was discovered and dominated in 2021-2022, which was characterized with ptxP3, erythromycin resistance and prn150. Twelve (11.7%) predicted pertactin-deficient isolates were found; of these, nine were ptxP3 isolates and three were ptxP1 isolates. A complete shift from ptxP1 to ptxP3 in Shanghai, China, which may have been accelerated by the domination of a novel erythromycin-resistant MT28 clone, challenges the pertussis vaccines used at present in China.

RESUMEN

Chinese red pepper (Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim.) leaf (ZML) extract was added to salted silver carp. The effect of ZML extract on volatile compounds formation of both dorsal and ventral muscle of salted fish was investigated. Lipid oxidation of salted fish with ZML extract was alleviated with lower peroxide value (PV) and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) values than that of the control. Therefore, the contents of some volatile compounds formed mainly by oxidation such as benzene, methylbenzene, 1-octene-3-ol, hexanal, and methyl ketone, which attributed off-odor of salted fish, were reduced. Principal component analysis results showed that the first principal component (PC1) and the second principal component (PC2) explained 62% and 31% of total variance, respectively, and volatile compounds of the dorsal and ventral of control group differentiated from treatment group. These results showed that ZML extract can be a source of natural antioxidants and food additives for improving flavor of salted fish.

RESUMEN

Merging of granular flows is ubiquitous in industrial, mining, and geological processes. However, its behavior remains poorly understood. This paper studies the phase transition and flow-rate behavior of two granular flows merging into one channel. When the main channel is wider than the side channel, the system shows a remarkable two-sudden-drops phenomenon in the outflow rate when gradually increasing the main inflow. When gradually decreasing the main inflow, the system shows obvious hysteresis phenomenon. We study the flow-rate-drop phenomenon by measuring the area fraction and the mean velocity at the merging point. The phase diagram of the system is also presented to understand the occurrence of the phenomenon. We find that the dilute-to-dense transition occurs when the area fraction of particles at the joint point exceeds a critical value ϕ(c)=0.65±0.03.

RESUMEN

This paper studies a bidisperse granular mixture consisting of two species of stainless steel spheres in a vertically vibrated compartmentalized container. The experiments show that with proper vibration acceleration, the granular clock stops when horizontal segregation of the large spheres residing in the far end from the barrier wall occurs. When the segregation is broken, the granular clock restarts. We present the phase diagrams of vibration acceleration versus container width and small particle number, which exhibits three different regions, namely, clustering state, stop-restart of the granular clock, and the granular clock. A generalized flux model is proposed to reproduce the phenomenon of stop and restart of the granular clock.

RESUMEN

This paper has studied spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB) phenomenon in two types of two-channel asymmetric simple exclusion processes (ASEPs). One common feature of the two systems is that interactions for each species of particle happen at only one site, and the system reduces to two independent ASEPs when interaction vanishes. It is shown that with the weakening of interaction, the SSB is suppressed. More interestingly, the SSB disappears before the interaction is eliminated. Our work thus indicates that local interaction has to be strong enough to produce SSB. The mean-field analysis has been carried out, and the results are consistent with the simulation ones.
