In recent years, the continuous expansion of Spartina alterniflora (S. alterniflora) has caused serious damage to coastal wetland ecosystem. Mapping the coverage of S. alterniflora by remote sensing and analyzing its growth pattern pose great importance in controlling the expansion and maintaining the biodiversity of coastal wetlands in Guangxi. This study aimed to use harmonic regression to fit time series data of vegetation indices based on Landsat images, and the phenological features were extracted as the input of random forest model to distinguish S. alterniflora in coastal zone of Guangxi from 2009 to 2020. The influence of natural environmental factors on the distribution of S. alterniflora was evaluated by Maxent model, and the potential distribution was analyzed. The results showed that: (1) Based on the time series data of characteristic indices fitted by harmonic regression, the extraction of phenological features of S. alterniflora identification effect exhibited high accuracy (in the result of 2009, Overall Accuracy [OA] = 97.33%, Kappa = 0.95). (2) During 2009-2020, the S. alterniflora in coastal zone of Guangxi kept proliferating and expanding from east to west. The total area of S. alterniflora continued to increase while the growth rate showed a trend that increased first and then decreased. (3) The Maxent model shows good accuracy in simulating the habitat of S. alterniflora, with a potential distribution area of 14,303.39 hm2. The findings will be beneficial to the understanding of dynamic changes of S. alterniflora in coastal zone of Guangxi and provide a scientific reference for other coastal wetland studies on S. alterniflora expansion.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a significant precursor to cerebral embolism. Our study sought to unearth new diagnostic biomarkers for atrial fibrillation-related cerebral embolism (AF-CE) by meticulously examining multiple GEO datasets and meta-analysis. The gene expression omnibus (GEO) database provided RNA sequencing data associated with AF and stroke. We began by pinpointing genes with varied expressions in AF-CE patient blood samples. A meta-analysis was subsequently undertaken using several RNA sequencing datasets to verify these genes. LASSO regression discerned key genes for AF-CE, with their diagnostic prowess verified through ROC curve examination. Active signaling pathways within stroke patients were discerned via GO and KEGG enrichment, with PPI interactions detailing gene interplay. Differential gene analysis revealed an upregulation of sixteen genes and a downregulation of four in stroke patient blood samples. Eight genes showcased varied expression in the meta-analysis. LASSO regression zeroed in on five of these, culminating in HIST1H2BH's identification as a characteristic gene. HIST1H2BH's prowess in predicting AF-CE was confirmed through ROC. Integrin signaling, platelet activation, ECM interactions, and the PI3K-Akt pathway were found active in stroke victims. HIST1H2BH's interaction with the notably upregulated ITGA2B was spotlighted by PPI. Additionally, HIST1H2BH exhibited links with NK cells and eosinophils. HIST1H2BH emerges as an insightful diagnostic beacon for AF-CE. Its presence, post AF, potentially modulates pathways, accentuating platelet activation and consequent thrombus generation, leading to cerebral embolism.

Lithium (Li) is an important resource that drives sustainable mobility and renewable energy. Its demand is projected to continue to increase in the coming decades. However, the risk of Li pollution has also emerged as a global concern. Here, we investigated the pollution characteristics, sources, exposure levels, and associated health risks of Li in the Jinjiang River basin, the largest area for Li2CO3 production in China. Our results revealed the dominant role of Li extraction activities in the pollution of the river, with over 95% of dissolved Li in downstream river water being emitted from this source. Moreover, the Li concentration in aquatic plants (i.e., water hyacinth) and animals (i.e., fish) significantly increased from upstream to downstream areas, indicating a significant risk to local aquatic ecosystems. More importantly, our study found that local residents were suffering potential chronic noncarcinogenic health risks primarily from consuming contaminated water and vegetables. We also investigated the pollution characteristics of associated elements present in Li ores (e.g., Rb, Cs, Ni, and F-). By uncovering the remarkable impact of Li extraction activities on the Li content in ecosystems for the first time, our study emphasizes the importance of evaluating Li pollution from Li-related industrial activities, including mining, extraction, and recovery.

Recent theoretical studies have suggested that transition metal perovskite oxide membranes can enable surface phonon polaritons in the infrared range with low loss and much stronger subwavelength confinement than bulk crystals. Such modes, however, have not been experimentally observed so far. Here, using a combination of far-field Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and near-field synchrotron infrared nanospectroscopy (SINS) imaging, we study the phonon polaritons in a 100 nm thick freestanding crystalline membrane of SrTiO3 transferred on metallic and dielectric substrates. We observe a symmetric-antisymmetric mode splitting giving rise to epsilon-near-zero and Berreman modes as well as highly confined (by a factor of 10) propagating phonon polaritons, both of which result from the deep-subwavelength thickness of the membranes. Theoretical modeling based on the analytical finite-dipole model and numerical finite-difference methods fully corroborate the experimental results. Our work reveals the potential of oxide membranes as a promising platform for infrared photonics and polaritonics.

OBJECTIVE: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous and aggressive cancer. Although our previous study classified primary TNBC into four subtypes, comprehensive longitudinal investigations are lacking. METHODS: We assembled a large-scale, real-world cohort comprised of 880 TNBC patients [465 early-stage TNBC (eTNBC) and 415 metastatic TNBC (mTNBC) patients] who were treated at Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. The longitudinal dynamics of TNBC subtypes during disease progression were elucidated in this patient cohort. Comprehensive analysis was performed to compare primary and metastatic lesions within specific TNBC subtypes. RESULTS: The recurrence and metastasis rates within 3 years after initial diagnosis in the eTNBC cohort were 10.1% (47/465). The median overall survival (OS) in the mTNBC cohort was 27.2 months [95% confidence interval (CI), 24.4-30.2 months], which indicated a poor prognosis. The prognostic significance of the original molecular subtypes in both eTNBC and mTNBC patients was confirmed. Consistent molecular subtypes were maintained in 77.5% of the patients throughout disease progression with the mesenchymal-like (MES) subtype demonstrating a tendency for subtype transition and brain metastasis. Additionally, a precision treatment strategy based on the metastatic MES subtype of target lesions resulted in improved progression-free survival in the FUTURE trial. CONCLUSIONS: Our longitudinal study comprehensively revealed the clinical characteristics and survival of patients with the original TNBC subtypes and validated the consistency of most molecular subtypes throughout disease progression. However, we emphasize the major importance of repeat pathologic confirmation of the MES subtype.

BACKGROUND: Protein posttranslational modifications (PTMs) are fast and early responses to environmental changes, including pathogen infection. Jujube witches' broom (JWB) is a phytoplasma disease causing great economic loss in jujube production. After phytoplasma infection, the transcriptional, translational, and metabolic levels in jujube were activated, enabling it to survive during phytoplasma invasion. However, no study has yet reported on PTMs in jujube. Lysine crotonylation (Kcr) and lysine succinylation (Ksu) have been popular studies in recent years and their function in plant phytoplasma-stress responses remains unclear. RESULTS: Here, 1656 crotonylated and 282 succinylated jujube proteins were first identified under phytoplasma-stress, of which 198 were simultaneously crotonylated and succinylated. Comparative analysis revealed that 656 proteins, 137 crotonylated and 43 succinylated proteins in jujube were regulated by phytoplasma infection, suggesting that Kcr was more universal than Ksu. Kcr differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were related to ribosomes, photosynthetic and carbon metabolism, while Ksu DEPs were mainly involved in carbon metabolism, the TCA cycle and secondary metabolite biosynthesis. The crosstalk network among proteome, crotonylome and succinylome showed that DEPs related to ribosomal, peroxidases and glutathione redox were enriched. Among them, ZjPOD51 and ZjPHGPX2 significantly increased at the protein and Kcr level under phytoplasma-stress. Notably, 7 Kcr sites were identified in ZjPHGPX2, a unique antioxidant enzyme. After inhibitor nicotinamide (NAM) treatment, GPX enzyme activity in jujube seedlings was reduced. Further, site-directed mutagenesis of key Kcr modification sites K130 and/or K135 in ZjPHGPX2 significantly reduced its activity. CONCLUSIONS: This study firstly provided large-scale datasets of Kcr and Ksu in phytoplasma-infected jujube and revealed that Kcr modification in ZjPHGPX2 positively regulates its activity.

Coal seam spontaneous combustion fire is not only one of the main forms of the five major mine disasters, but also the main cause of secondary disasters such as mine gas and coal dust explosions. In recent years, with the advancement of mechanization, automation, and intelligent mine construction, spontaneous coal fires in mines have presented a series of new characteristics, and the prevention and control of spontaneous coal fires are also facing new challenges. On the basis of literature research, this paper summarizes and discusses the basic theory of coal spontaneous combustion, monitoring and early warning methods, and prevention and control technology, summarizes the development process of coal spontaneous combustion theory, reviews the research progress of coal spontaneous combustion monitoring and early warning methods and prevention and control technologies, and discusses the future development direction. In terms of the basic theory of spontaneous combustion of coal, from the initial hypothesis of spontaneous combustion of multielement coal to the unified understanding of coal-oxygen composite theory, a complete set of theoretical systems have been established, and a lot of macro and micro studies have been carried out and analyzed from multiple perspectives. In terms of coal spontaneous combustion monitoring and early warning, from the initial single indicator gas early warning to the construction of gas index system, the hierarchical early warning system is studied, and gradually tends to be perfect. With the development of automation and intelligence technology, the monitoring of coal spontaneous combustion disasters has also formed a new monitoring technology with beam tube monitoring as the traditional method, distributed optical fiber, wireless AD hoc network temperature measurement, and a coal spontaneous combustion multiparameter wireless monitoring system. In terms of fire prevention and control, the traditional "prevention" and "treatment" have changed to the "prevention-control-extinction" technical system based on hierarchical early warning, and the focus has gradually shifted to "prevention", and a large number of antifire materials have been developed, including blocking materials and fire-fighting materials. However, the precise inhibition and control of coal spontaneous combustion disasters, the evolution model of coal spontaneous combustion under the conditions of multifactor coupling in the field, the reliability and stability of intelligent monitoring system, the noncontact detection method of fire source, and the collaborative adaptation of multiple prevention and control techniques are not yet clear. In the future development, the mechanism of spontaneous coal combustion and its evolution process and other basic theories should be deeply studied. On the basis of the mechanism optimization early warning method of spontaneous coal combustion process, flame retardant and fire prevention materials should be targeted and developed. On the basis of the spatiotemporal evolution of spontaneous coal combustion, monitoring and monitoring system equipment with high speed, high precision, and high stability should be developed, which should accelerate the realization of accurate dynamic sensing and intelligent early warning of coal spontaneous combustion, and form an active hierarchical collaborative prevention and control system based on the trinity of "prevention-control-extinction" of coal spontaneous combustion. The conclusions and prospects of this paper can be used for reference in the future research direction, and have a certain role in promoting the exchange of research results of coal science and technology workers.

Significance: Pulsed infrared neural stimulation (INS, 1875 nm) is an emerging neurostimulation technology that delivers focal pulsed heat to activate functionally specific mesoscale networks and holds promise for clinical application. However, little is known about its effect on excitatory and inhibitory cell types in cerebral cortex. Aim: Estimates of summed population neuronal response time courses provide a potential basis for neural and hemodynamic signals described in other studies. Approach: Using two-photon calcium imaging in mouse somatosensory cortex, we have examined the effect of INS pulse train application on hSyn neurons and mDlx neurons tagged with GCaMP6s. Results: We find that, in anesthetized mice, each INS pulse train reliably induces robust response in hSyn neurons exhibiting positive going responses. Surprisingly, mDlx neurons exhibit negative going responses. Quantification using the index of correlation illustrates responses are reproducible, intensity-dependent, and focal. Also, a contralateral activation is observed when INS applied. Conclusions: In sum, the population of neurons stimulated by INS includes both hSyn and mDlx neurons; within a range of stimulation intensities, this leads to overall excitation in the stimulated population, leading to the previously observed activations at distant post-synaptic sites.

Ataxin-2 (Atx2) is a polyglutamine (polyQ) tract-containing RNA-binding protein, while its polyQ expansion may cause protein aggregation that is implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 (SCA2). However, the molecular mechanism underlying how Atx2 aggregation contributes to the proteinopathies remains elusive. Here, we investigated the influence of Atx2 aggregation on the assembly and functionality of cellular processing bodies (P-bodies) by using biochemical and fluorescence imaging approaches. We have revealed that polyQ-expanded (PQE) Atx2 sequesters the DEAD-box RNA helicase (DDX6), an essential component of P-bodies, into aggregates or puncta via some RNA sequences. The N-terminal like-Sm (LSm) domain of Atx2 (residues 82-184) and the C-terminal helicase domain of DDX6 are responsible for the interaction and specific sequestration. Moreover, sequestration of DDX6 may aggravate pre-mRNA mis-splicing, and interfere with the assembly of cellular P-bodies, releasing the endoribonuclease MARF1 that promotes mRNA decay and translational repression. Rescuing the DDX6 protein level can recover the assembly and functionality of P-bodies preventing targeted mRNA from degradation. This study provides a line of evidence for sequestration of the P-body components and impairment of the P-body homeostasis in dysregulating RNA metabolism, which is implicated in the disease pathologies and a potential therapeutic target.

BACKGROUND: Emodin, a natural anthraquinone derivative found in various Chinese medicinal herbs, has been proved to be an effective therapeutic agent in the treatment of many diseases. However, its effect on lung injury after intestinal ischemia/reperfusion injury remains unknown. This research was designed to investigate whether emodin protects against intestinal ischemia/reperfusion-induced lung injury and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms in vivo and in vitro. METHODS: Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion injury was induced by occluding the superior mesenteric artery in mice, and mouse lung epithelial-12 cells were subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation and reoxygenation to establish an in vitro model. RESULTS: Our data indicated that emodin treatment reduced intestinal ischemia/reperfusion-induced oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis in lung tissues and alleviated lung injury. However, the protective effects of emodin on intestinal ischemia/reperfusion-induced lung injury were reversed by the protein kinase B inhibitor triciribine or the heme oxygenase-1 inhibitor tin protoporphyrin IX. The protein kinase inhibitor triciribine also downregulated the expression of heme oxygenase-1. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, our data suggest that emodin treatment protects against intestinal ischemia/reperfusion-induced lung injury by enhancing heme oxygenase-1 expression via activation of the PI3K/protein kinase pathway. Emodin may act as a potential therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of lung injury induced by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion.

Accumulating evidence has demonstrated that high-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPVs) are involved in the etiology of a subset of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). In this regard, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has recommended direct molecular HPV testing. So far, there is no agreement on the most appropriate method for HPV detection on OPSCC formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) materials. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the performance of the high-sensitive SureX HPV assay in OPSCC FFPE tissues compared with LiPA-25 and p16ink4a immunostaining. A retrospective series of FFPE primary OPSCC cases were diagnosed between 2008 and 2019 and provided by the Henan Cancer Hospital, China. The level of agreement of two assays was determined using Cohen's Kappa (κ) statistics. A total of 230 FFPE OPSCC samples from tumor resections (n = 160) and diagnostic biopsies (n = 70) were detected. Sixty-six (28.7%) and 70 (30.4%) samples were identified as HPV-DNA-positive by LiPA-25 and SureX, respectively, of which HPV16 was largely the most common type (95.5% vs 94.3%). We found a perfect concordance between LiPA-25 and SureX for HPV-DNA status (κ = 0.906, 95% CI: 0.875-0.937) and for HPV16 (κ = 0.925, 95% CI: 0.897-0.953). In addition, SureX and p16ink4a immunostaining had a perfect concordance (κ = 0.917, 95% CI: 0.888-0.946). Moreover, the HPV-driven fraction, based on double positivity for HPV-DNA and p16ink4a, was similar between SureX (63 of 230, 27.4%) and LiPA-25 (60 of 230, 26.1%). Similar results were found in samples from resections and biopsies. SureX and LiPA-25 are comparable. SureX could be used for routine HPV-DNA detection and genotyping on archival OPSCC FFPE tissues.

Chaihu-jia-Longgu-Muli decoction (CLMD) has been proven clinically effective in treating vertigo with anxiety disorder. However, the mechanism is not clear. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of CLMD in treating vertigo with anxiety disorder based on ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight/mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF/MS) and network pharmacology. UPLC-Q-TOF/MS was performed to identify the compounds in blood and the targets of compounds of CLMD in vertigo and anxiety were searched using databases. A protein-protein interaction network was built to screen the core targets. The core targets were analyzed by Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses. In addition, the vertigo with anxiety rat model was used to verify the results. A total of 22 compounds were absorbed into the blood. Eighty-one potential targets associated with CLMD for vertigo with anxiety disorder were identified through network pharmacological analysis. Subsequently, GO and KEGG analysis showed that CLMD treatment for vertigo with anxiety disorder is associated with neurotransmitter levels and other pertinent physiological processes. The results of the animal experiments showed that CLMD decreased the levels of serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, alleviating the symptoms of vertigo and anxiety disorder in model rats. The study revealed CLMD could alleviate vertigo and anxiety symptoms through reducing the levels of neurotransmitters.

Short-chain and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs) have garnered significant attention because they have persistence and potential toxicity, and can undergo long-distance transport. Chlorinated paraffins (CPs) inhaled in the size-fractionated particulate phase and gas phase can carry different risks to human health due to their ability to accumulate in different regions of the respiratory tract and exhibit varying deposition efficiencies. In our study, large-volume ambient air samples in both the size-fractionated particulate phase (Dp < 1.0 µm, 1.0-2.5 µm, 2.5-10 µm, and Dp ≥ 10 µm) and gas phase were collected simultaneously in Beijing using an active sampler. The overall levels of SCCPs and MCCPs were relatively high, the ranges being 57-881 and 30-385 ng/m3, respectively. SCCPs tended to be partitioned in the gas phase (on average 75% of the ΣSCCP concentration), while MCCPs tended to be partitioned in the particulate phase (on average 62% of the ΣMCCP concentration). Significant correlations were discovered between the logarithm-transformed gas-particle partition coefficients (KP) and predicted subcooled vapor pressures (PL0) (p < 0.01 for SCCPs and MCCPs) and between the logarithm-transformed KP values and octanol-air partition coefficients (KOA) (p < 0.01 for SCCPs and MCCPs). Thus, the slopes indicated that organic matter absorption was the dominant process involved in gas-particle partitioning. We used the ICRP model to calculate deposition concentrations for particulate-associated CPs in head airways region (15.6-71.4 ng/m³), tracheobronchial region (0.8-4.8 ng/m³), and alveolar region (5.1-21.9 ng/m³), then combined these concentrations with the CP concentrations in the gas phase to calculate estimated daily intakes (EDIs) for inhalation. The EDIs for SCCPs and MCCPs through inhalation of ambient air for the all-ages group were 67.5-184.2 ng/kg/day and 19.7-53.7 ng/kg/day, respectively. The results indicated that SCCPs and MCCPs in ambient air do not currently pose strong risks to human health in the study area.

Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive brain tumor with poor prognosis despite surgery and chemoradiation. The visual sequelae of glioblastoma have not been well characterized. This study assessed visual outcomes in glioblastoma patients through neuro-ophthalmic exams, imaging of the retinal microstructures/microvasculature, and perimetry. A total of 19 patients (9 male, 10 female, average age at diagnosis 69 years) were enrolled. Best-corrected visual acuity ranged from 20/20-20/50. Occipital tumors showed worse visual fields than frontal tumors (mean deviation - 14.9 and - 0.23, respectively, p < 0.0001). Those with overall survival (OS) < 15 months demonstrated thinner retinal nerve fiber layer and ganglion cell complex (p < 0.0001) and enlarged foveal avascular zone starting from 4 months post-diagnosis (p = 0.006). There was no significant difference between eyes ipsilateral and contralateral to radiation fields (average doses were 1370 cGy and 1180 cGy, respectively, p = 0.42). A machine learning algorithm using retinal microstructure and visual fields predicted patients with long (≥ 15 months) progression-free and overall survival with 78% accuracy. Glioblastoma patients frequently present with visual field defects despite normal visual acuity. Patients with poor survival duration demonstrated significant retinal thinning and decreased microvascular density. A machine learning algorithm predicted survival; further validation is warranted.

Objective: Diabetes mellitus is the leading cause of death worldwide, and multiple risk factors associated with diabetes mortality. Methods: Employing spatial statistics, we characterized the spatial distribution and patterns of diabetes mortality, and revealed the spatial relationship between diabetes mortality and 11 socioeconomic and environmental risk factors at the country level, from 1990 to 2019. Results: Globally, significantly high rates of diabetes mortality were primarily clustered in countries with limited land areas or located on islands, such as Fiji, Kiribati, Eswatini, and Trinidad and Tobago. Countries with weaker economic independence are more likely to have higher diabetes mortality rates. In addition, the impact of socioeconomic and environmental factors was significant at the country level, involving health expenditure, number of physicians, household and ambient air pollution, smoking, and alcohol consumption. Notably, the spatial relationship between diabetes mortality and ambient air pollution, as well as alcohol consumption, showed negative correlations. Countries with high diabetes mortality rates generally had lower levels of ambient air pollution and alcohol consumption. Conclusion: The study highlights the spatial clustering of diabetes mortality and its substantial variation. While many risk factors can influence diabetes mortality, it's also essential to consider the level of these factors at the country level. Tailoring appropriate interventions based on specific national circumstances holds the potential to more effectively mitigate the burden of diabetes mortality.

OBJECTIVE: Body mass index (BMI) trajectories are associated with night-time sleep, but it is not clear how they relate to daytime sleepiness in population data. This study aimed to examine longitudinal associations between levels and changes in daytime sleepiness and BMI trajectories among men and women. METHODS: We estimated growth curve models among 827 participants in the Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study (mean [sd] age = 55.2 [8.0] years at baseline). The outcome variable was BMI (kg/m2) and the key predictor was daytime sleepiness measured by Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) scores. Covariates included demographics, health behaviors, retirement status, stimulant use, and depressive symptoms. In sensitivity analyses, we evaluated the potential effects of cardiovascular disease, shift work status, and sleep apnea on the robustness of sleepiness and BMI associations. RESULTS: At the between-person level, men who were sleepier had higher BMI levels. At the within-person level, age moderated the positive association between sleepiness and BMI among women. Specifically, young women who became sleepier over time gained more BMI than older women with comparable increases in sleepiness. Furthermore, while BMI tended to increase with age among women, BMI trajectories were steeper among sleepy women than among well-rested women, who experienced less increase in BMI over time. CONCLUSION: The study suggested that levels and changes in daytime sleepiness as objectively measured by MSLT scores are associated with body mass among adults.

Coal gangue spontaneous combustion has caused serious environmental and ecological problems. To investigate the reaction kinetic parameters of the gangue and the exothermic characteristics of the spontaneous combustion of the influence of the law, this study employs the thermogravimetric method to explore the characteristic parameters of the pyrolysis and oxidative combustion process of the gangue from the perspective of thermodynamics, and, at the same time, using the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) on the exothermic effect of the gangue to explore the gangue to obtain the gangue and the original coal TG/DTG/DSC curves to be compared and from the perspective of thermodynamics. The change rule and potential parameters in the pyrolysis and oxidative combustion process of coal gangue (CG) were analyzed, the oxidation kinetic properties of CG were studied, and the reaction mechanism of oxidative spontaneous combustion of CG was further explained. The results show that the TG/DTG/DSC curves of CG in different gas atmospheres will have significant differences in all stages, and in the process of pyrolysis and oxidative combustion, the thermogravimetric curves of CG and those of the original coal show a consistent trend, except for the large difference in peak amplitude in different stages; in different gas atmospheres, as the rate of warming increases, the TG/DTG/DSC curves of the gangue are tilted toward the high-temperature region, they are inclined to the high-temperature region with the increase of the heating rate, and the phenomenon of "hysteresis" of characteristic temperature occurs. The research results provide a theoretical basis for the construction of a spontaneous combustion early warning system based on the fine division of gangue pyrolysis and oxidation combustion stages.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical significance of the creatine kinase (CK)-MB/total CK ratio, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and red blood cell distribution width in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted of 196 AMI cases from our hospital's cardiology department; healthy people were selected over the same period as the control. The two groups' test indexes were compared through multivariate logistic regression analysis to screen for AMI risk factors; the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to evaluate their AMI predictive values. RESULTS: The serum CK, CK-MB, CK index, neutrophils and NLR values in the AMI group were significantly higher compared with those in the control group (p < 0.05); however, the levels of serum lymphocytes were significantly lower compared with those in the control group (p < 0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that elevated CK-MB and NLR levels were risk factors for AMI (p < 0.05). The ROC curve showed that the area under the curve of the NLR and CK levels were 0.917 and 0.594, respectively. CONCLUSION: The CK index and NLR have a clinical predicting value for AMI and could be used as a clinical auxiliary diagnostic index for the assessment of patients with AMI.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC, diagnosed in patients under the age of 50 years) has been increasing around the world. Here, we aimed to systematically identify distinctive features of EOCRC. METHODS: From 2020 to 2021, we conducted a nationwide survey in 19 hospitals, collecting data on advanced CRC patients' demographics, clinical features, disease knowledge, medical experiences, expenditures, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). We compared these features between EOCRC and late-onset colorectal cancer (LOCRC, ≥ 50 years old) groups and analyzed the association between EOCRC and HRQOL using multivariate linear regression. FINDINGS: In total, 991 patients with EOCRC and 3581 patients with LOCRC were included. Compared to the LOCRC group, the EOCRC group had higher levels of education, were more informed about the risk factors for CRC, were more likely to have widespread metastases throughout the body, were more inclined to undergo gene testing, and were more likely to opt for targeted therapy, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. However, HRQOL in the EOCRC group was similar to that of the LOCRC group, and no significant association was observed between EOCRC and HRQOL (beta: -0.753, P value: 0.307). INTERPRETATION: In Chinese patients, EOCRC patients had more aggressive features. Despite undergoing more intensified treatments and gene testing, they had similar HRQOL compared with LOCRC. These findings advocate for a more tailored approach to treatment, especially for young CRC patients with advanced TNM stages and metastasis.
