OBJECTIVES: Functional dyspepsia (FD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are prevalent functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs). In this study we aimed to explore the causal association between physical activity or sedentary behavior and the risk of FD and IBS. METHODS: Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was employed. Candidate genetic instruments for physical activity and sedentary behavior were retrieved from the latest published Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS), which included up to 703,901 participants. Summary-level GWAS data for FD (8 875 cases and 320 387 controls) and IBS (9 323 cases and 301 931 controls) were obtained from the FinnGen study. The causal effects were mainly estimated by inverse variance weighted (IVW) method. Sensitivity analyses were implemented with Cochran's Q test, MR-Egger intercept test, leave-one-out analysis, and the funnel plot. RESULTS: No significant association of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity (MVPA), leisure screen time (LST), sedentary behavior at work (SDW), and sedentary commuting (SDC) with the risk of FD was found. However, there was a suggestive correlation between MVPA and the decreased risk of FD (odds ratio [OR] 0.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.39-0.99, P = 0.047). Genetically predicted MVPA decreased the risk of IBS (OR 0.58, 95% CI 0.40-0.84, P = 0.004), while increased LST was positively associated with IBS risk (OR 1.33, 95% CI 1.15-1.53, P < 0.001). No causal effects of SDW or SDC on IBS risk were observed. CONCLUSION: MVPA and LST are causally linked to the development of IBS, which will facilitate primary prevention of IBS.

Chitin nanofibrils (ChNF) sourced from discarded marine biomass are shown as effective stabilizers of carbon nanomaterials in aqueous media. Such stabilization is evaluated for carbon nanotubes (CNT) considering spatial and temporal perspectives by using experimental (small-angle X-ray scattering, among others) and theoretical (atomistic simulation) approaches. We reveal that the coassembly of ChNF and CNT is governed by hydrophobic interactions, while electrostatic repulsion drives the colloidal stabilization of the hybrid ChNF/CNT system. Related effects are found to be transferable to multiwalled carbon nanotubes and graphene nanosheets. The observations explain the functionality of hybrid membranes obtained by aqueous phase processing, which benefit from an excellent areal mass distribution (correlated to piezoresistivity), also contributing to high electromechanical performance. The water resistance and flexibility of the ChNF/CNT membranes (along with its tensile strength at break of 190 MPa, conductivity of up to 426 S/cm, and piezoresistivity and light absorption properties) are conveniently combined in a device demonstration, a sunlight water evaporator. The latter is shown to present a high evaporation rate (as high as 1.425 kg water m-2 h-1 under one sun illumination) and recyclability.

Objective: Moderate-to-severe pain is the most common clinical symptom in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).This trial aimed to analyze the clinical efficacy of Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) in patients of HCC with severe pain and provide a reliable reference for optimizing the clinical diagnostic and therapeutic strategies of HCC. Methods: A total of 104 eligible patients were randomly allocated to experimental and control groups in a ratio of 1:1.The treatment was administered for 1 week continuously. Patients in both groups were followed up 1 week after the end of the treatment.The primary outcome measure was the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) score, whereas the secondary outcome measures included Brief Pain Inventory BPI-Q3, Q4, Q5 scores, analgesic dose, frequency of opioid-induced gastrointestinal side effects, Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS), Quality of Life Scale - Liver Cancer (QOL-LC), and Brief Fatigue Inventory (BFI) scores. Results: The NRS scores of experimental group was significantly lower after treatment and at the follow-up than baseline (average P<0.01), there were also statistical differences between the groups at the above time points (average P<0.01). BPI-Q3, -Q4, and -Q5 scores in the experimental group were decreased after treatment when compared with those before treatment (average P<0.01). Furthermore, there were significant improvements of gastrointestinal side effects, KPS, QOL-LC and BPI in the experimental group after treatment, and the above results were statistically significant compared to the control group. Conclusion: 7-day TEAS treatment can significantly enhance the analgesic effect and maintain for the following week, also reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects caused by opioids, and improve the quality of life of patients with moderate-to-severe HCC-related pain, which has reliable safety and certain clinical promotion value.

Diverse quinazolinone-[2,3]-fused polycyclic skeletons occupy a prominent position in drug discovery. Even with currently available methods there still remain unmet needs for flexible access to such structures. Herein, we have explored a mild "one pot" procedure for the construction of various quinazolinone-[2,3]-fused polycycles. The procedure involves Pd-catalyzed carbonylation of N-(2-iodophenyl)acetamides, release of the masked terminal amine, and two sequential and spontaneous cyclizations. This generally applicable approach features easy assembly of precursors from readily available starting materials, mild reaction conditions, non-cumbersome operation, and polycyclic diversity.

Carexduanensis Z.C.Lu, Y.F.Lu & X.F.Jin, a new species in limestone areas of Guangxi, China, was discovered and described. The morphology showed that C.duanensis is similar to C.calcicola, but differs in having culms central, leaf blades 3-5.5 mm wide, bracts longer than spikes, utricles 4-5 mm long, shorter, and nutlets abruptly contracted into an erect beak at apex. SEM microphotographs of utricles and nutlets are provided for the new and related species, C.calcicola.

Thyroxine receptor beta (TRß) is a ligand-dependent nuclear receptor that participates in regulating multiple biological processes, particularly playing an important role in lipid metabolism regulation. TRß is currently a popular therapeutic target for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), while no drugs have been approved to treat this disease. MGL-3196 (Resmetirom) is the first TRß agonist that has succeeded in phase III clinical trials for the treatment of NASH; therefore, studying its molecular mechanism of action is of great significance. In this study, we employed molecular dynamic simulation to investigate the interaction mode between MGL-3196 and TRß at the all-atom level. More importantly, by comparing the binding patterns of MGL-3196 in several prevalent TRß mutants, it was identified that the mutations R243Q and H435R located, respectively, around and within the ligand-binding pocket of TRß cause TRß to be insensitive to MGL-3196. This indicates that patients with NASH carrying these two mutations may exhibit resistance to the medication of MGL-3196, thereby highlighting the potential impact of TRß mutations on TRß-targeted treatment of NASH and beyond.

BACKGROUND: Intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) is a premalignant biliary-type epithelial neoplasm with intraductal papillary or villous growth. Currently reported local palliative therapeutic modalities, including endoscopic nasobiliary drainage, stenting and biliary curettage, endoscopic biliary polypectomy, percutaneous biliary drainage, laser ablation, argon plasma coagulation, photodynamic therapy, and radiofrequency ablation to relieve mechanical obstruction are limited with weaknesses and disadvantages. We have applied percutaneous transhepatic cholangioscopy (PTCS)-assisted biliary polypectomy (PTCS-BP) technique for the management of IPNB including mucin-hypersecreting cast-like and polypoid type tumors since 2010. AIM: To assess the technical feasibility, efficacy, and safety of PTCS-BP for local palliative treatment of IPNB. METHODS: Patients with mucin-hypersecreting cast-like or polypoid type IPNB and receiving PTCS-BP between September 2010 and December 2019 were included. PTCS-BP was performed by using a half-moon type snare with a soft stainless-steel wire, and the tumor was snared and resected with electrocautery. The primary outcome was its feasibility, indicated by technical success. The secondary outcomes were efficacy, including therapeutic success, curative resection, and clinical success, and safety. RESULTS: Five patients (four with mucin-hypersecreting cast-like type and one with polypoid type IPNB) were included. Low- and high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGIN) and recurrent IPNB with invasive carcinoma were observed in one, two, and two patients, respectively. Repeated cholangitis and/or obstructive jaundice were presented in all four patients with mucin-hypersecreting cast-like type IPNB. All five patients achieved technical success of PTCS-BP. Four patients (three with mucin-hypersecreting cast-like type and one with polypoid type IPNB) obtained therapeutic success; one with mucin-hypersecreting cast-like type tumors in the intrahepatic small bile duct and HGIN had residual tumors. All four patients with mucin-hypersecreting IPNB achieved clinical success. The patient with polypoid type IPNB achieved curative resection. There were no PTCS-BP-related serious adverse events. CONCLUSION: PTCS-BP appears to be feasible, efficacious, and safe for local palliative treatment of both mucin-hypersecreting cast-like and polypoid type IPNB.

Microwave ablation (MWA) is recognized as a novel treatment modality that can kill tumor cells by heating the ions and polar molecules in these cells through high-speed rotation and friction. However, the size and location of the tumor affect the effective ablation range of microwave hyperthermia, resulting in residual tumor tissue and a high recurrence rate. Due to their tunable porous structure and high specific surface area, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can serve as microwave sensitizers, promoting microwave energy conversion owing to ion collisions in the porous structure of the MOFs. Moreover, iron-based compounds are known to possess peroxidase-like catalytic activity. Therefore, Fe-doped Cu bimetallic MOFs (FCMs) were prepared through a hydrothermal process. These FCM nanoparticles not only increased the efficiency of microwave-thermal energy conversion as microwave sensitizers but also promoted the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by consuming glutathione (GSH) and promoted the Fenton reaction to enhance microwave dynamic therapy (MDT). The in vitro and in vivo results showed that the combination of MWA and MDT treatment effectively destroyed tumor tissues via microwave irradiation without inducing significant side effects on normal tissues. This study provides a new approach for the combined application of MOFs and microwave ablation, demonstrating excellent potential for future applications.

BACKGROUND: Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS) is a rare progressive degenerative disorder of unknown etiology. Here we report a rare case of PRS combined with lens subluxation in Eye and ENT hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai. To our knowledge, it is the first reported case of PRS combined with lens subluxation that has been managed surgically with phacoemulsification and CTR placement and IOL implantation in Shanghai. CASE PRESENTATION: A 60-year-old woman was referred for "right visual blur for 2 years" and had persistent right facial paralysis of unknown etiology since the age 12. She had right facial muscle atrophy and paralysis. Eye examination also showed the right eyelid pseudoptosis, enophthalmos, age-related cataract combined with lens subluxation existed in the right eye. The patient was diagnosed as age-related cataract and lens subluxation in the right eye and progressive hemifacial atrophy (Parry-Romberg syndrome). We conducted a combined phacoemulsification, IOL and CTR implantation and pupilloplasty surgery for the patient under general anesthesia and the postoperative UCVA was 20/30 and remained for 1 year's follow up. CONCLUSIONS: Here we reported a rare case of PHA combined with lens subluxation in China. After appropriate eye surgery, the patient achieved satisfying vision result in the right eye.

BACKGROUND: There have been few longitudinal studies on Chinese bus drivers and the individual differences in the relationships between organizational justice and job satisfaction. This study examined the organizational justice and job satisfaction in bus drivers and the individual differences in this relationship. METHODS: A two-wave longitudinal study design was employed. A first survey was conducted on 513 Chinese bus drivers in October 2021 that collected socio-demographic information and asked about their perceptions of organizational fairness. A second survey was conducted six months later that asked about role overload and job satisfaction and assessed their proactive personality type. An effect model was then used to explore the moderating effects of role overload and proactive personality type on the relationships between organizational justice and job satisfaction. RESULTS: Both procedural and interactive justice predicted the bus drivers' job satisfaction. Proactive personalities and role overload were found to enhance this relationship. CONCLUSIONS: Organizations could benefit from screening at the recruitment stage for drivers with highly proactive personalities. Relevant training for drivers with low proactive personalities could partially improve employee job satisfaction. When viewed from a Chinese collectivist cultural frame, role overload could reflect trust and a sense of belonging, which could enhance job satisfaction. Finally, to improve employee job satisfaction, organizations need to ensure procedural and interactive justice.

In this paper, we report an innovative method for synthesizing 1-benzyl-2,4-diarylimidazole utilizing 1-phenylethanone-2-(2-pyridinyl) hydrazine and benzylamine, catalyzed by an I2/CuI system. This approach represents a significant departure from traditional methods for synthesizing polysubstituted imidazoles; it employs the I2/CuI catalyst to replace rare metal catalysts, thereby achieving high yields of substitution products (≤85%). This method for the generation of 1,2,4-triimidazole derivatives is characterized by its exceptional chemical selectivity and extensive substrate compatibility.

Gut microbiota can influence host gene expression and physiology through metabolites. Besides, the presence or absence of gut microbiome can reprogram host transcriptome and epitranscriptome as represented by N6-methyladenosine (m6A), the most abundant mammalian mRNA modification. However, which and how gut microbiota-derived metabolites reprogram host transcriptome and m6A epitranscriptome remain poorly understood. Here, investigation is conducted into how gut microbiota-derived metabolites impact host transcriptome and m6A epitranscriptome using multiple mouse models and multi-omics approaches. Various antibiotics-induced dysbiotic mice are established, followed by fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) into germ-free mice, and the results show that bile acid metabolism is significantly altered along with the abundance change in bile acid-producing microbiota. Unbalanced gut microbiota and bile acids drastically change the host transcriptome and the m6A epitranscriptome in multiple tissues. Mechanistically, the expression of m6A writer proteins is regulated in animals treated with antibiotics and in cultured cells treated with bile acids, indicating a direct link between bile acid metabolism and m6A biology. Collectively, these results demonstrate that antibiotic-induced gut dysbiosis regulates the landscape of host transcriptome and m6A epitranscriptome via bile acid metabolism pathway. This work provides novel insights into the interplay between microbial metabolites and host gene expression.

OBJECTIVE: Comorbid anxiety occurs often in MS and is associated with disability progression. Polygenic scores offer a possible means of anxiety risk prediction but often have not been validated outside the original discovery population. We aimed to investigate the association between the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 2-item scale polygenic score with anxiety in MS. METHODS: Using a case-control design, participants from Canadian, UK Biobank, and United States cohorts were grouped into cases (MS/comorbid anxiety) or controls (MS/no anxiety, anxiety/no immune disease or healthy). We used multiple anxiety measures: current symptoms, lifetime interview-diagnosed, and lifetime self-report physician-diagnosed. The polygenic score was computed for current anxiety symptoms using summary statistics from a previous genome-wide association study and was tested using regression. RESULTS: A total of 71,343 individuals of European genetic ancestry were used: Canada (n = 334; 212 MS), UK Biobank (n = 70,431; 1,390 MS), and the USA (n = 578 MS). Meta-analyses identified that in MS, each 1-SD increase in the polygenic score was associated with ~50% increased odds of comorbid moderate anxious symptoms compared to those with less than moderate anxious symptoms (OR: 1.47, 95% CI: 1.09-1.99). We found a similar direction of effects in the other measures. MS had a similar anxiety genetic burden compared to people with anxiety as the index disease. INTERPRETATION: Higher genetic burden for anxiety was associated with significantly increased odds of moderate anxious symptoms in MS of European genetic ancestry which did not differ from those with anxiety and no comorbid immune disease. This study suggests a genetic basis for anxiety in MS.

Gizzerosine is a biogenic amine produced in fish meal drying process and posted higher mortality due to gizzard erosion in poultry than histamine. However, it is difficult to obtain gizzerosine and achieve sensitive practical detection due to its simple structure. Herein, a monoclonal antibody (mAb) specific to gizzerosine was generated based on the new structural design and a fluorescence immunosensor for sensitive and on-site detection of gizzerosine in feed was first established. Molecular modeling of the three-dimensional (3D) structure and surface electrostatic potential of gizzerosine indicated that the carbonyl group of gizzerosine hapten might affect the important sites of antigen-antibody interactions. The proposed structure was used to obtain the sensitive and specific mAb with IC50 of 3.88 ng/mL in indirect competitive ELISA which was approximately 100-fold lower than that of direct competitive ELISA. Considering the practical application scenarios, a fluorescence immunosensor based on microporous dry method integrated with independent quality control line was established to improve detection stability. Under the optimum conditions, the proposed immunosensor showed a good linear relationship from 1.10 to 19.78 ng/mL and provided a low detection limit of 50 ng/g which was approximately 80-fold lower than the maximum recommended amount (0.4 mg/kg) of gizzerosine in feed. The recoveries of 6 kinds of feed ranged from 83.1 % to 114.3 %, which was in good consistence with that of UHPLC-MS/MS. Overall, this work provides a fast, cost-effective and reliable on-site tool for rapid screening of gizzerosine residues in feed samples.

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: To develop an efficient machine-learning model using pituitary MRI radiomics and clinical data to differentiate growth hormone deficiency (GHD) from idiopathic short stature (ISS), making the diagnostic process more acceptable to patients and their families. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cohort of 297 GHD and 300 ISS children (4-12 years) were enrolled as training and validation cohorts (8:2 ratio). An external cohort from another institution (49 GHD and 51 ISS) was employed as the testing cohort. Radiomics features extracted from the anterior pituitary gland on sagittal T1-weighted image (1.5 T or 3.0 T) were used to develop a radiomics model after feature selection. Hematological biomarkers were selected to create a clinical model and combine with the optimal radiomics features to create a clinical-radiomics model. The area under the receive operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Delong test compared the diagnostic performance of the previously mentioned three models across different validation and testing cohorts. RESULTS: 17 radiomics features were selected for the radiomics model, and total protein, total cholesterol, free triiodothyronine, and triglyceride were utilized for the clinical model. In the training and validation cohorts, the diagnostic performance of the clinical-radiomics model (AUC=0.820 and 0.801) was comparable to the radiomics model (AUC=0.812 and 0.779, both P >0.05), both outperforming the clinical model (AUC=0.575 and 0.593, P <0.001). In the testing cohort, the clinical-radiomics model exhibited the highest AUC of 0.762 than the clinical and radiomics model (AUC=0.604 and 0.741, respectively, P <0.05). In addition, the clinical and radiomics models demonstrated similar diagnostic performance in the testing cohort (P >0.05). CONCLUSION: Integrating radiomics features from conventional pituitary MRI with clinical indicators offers a minimally invasive approach for identifying GHD and shows robustness in a multicenter setting.

Gastric cancer (GC) exhibits significant heterogeneity and its prognosis remains dismal. Therefore, it is essential to investigate new approaches for diagnosing and treating GC. Desmosome proteins are crucial for the advancement and growth of cancer. Plakophilin-2 (PKP2), a member of the desmosome protein family, frequently exhibits aberrant expression and is strongly associated with many tumor types' progression. In this study, we found upregulation of PKP2 in GC. Further correlation analysis showed a notable association between increased PKP2 expression and both tumor stage and poor prognosis in individuals diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma. In addition, our research revealed that the Yes-associated protein1 (YAP1)/TEAD4 complex could stimulate the transcriptional expression of PKP2 in GC. Elevated PKP2 levels facilitate activation of the AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin signaling pathway, thereby promoting the malignant progression of GC. By constructing a mouse model, we ultimately validated the molecular mechanism and function of PKP2 in GC. Taken together, these discoveries suggest that PKP2, as a direct gene target of YAP/TEAD4 regulation, has the potential to be used as an indication of GC progression and prognosis. PKP2 is expected to be a promising therapeutic target for GC.

Implantable neural electrodes are indispensable tools for recording neuron activity, playing a crucial role in neuroscience research. However, traditional neural electrodes suffer from limited electrochemical performance, compromised biocompatibility, and tentative stability, posing great challenges for reliable long-term studies in free-moving animals. In this study, a novel approach employing a hybrid film composed of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/functional gold nanoparticles (PEDOT/3-MPA-Au) to improve the electrode-neural interface is presented. The deposited PEDOT/3-MPA-Au demonstrates superior cathodal charge storage capacity, reduced electrochemical impedance, and remarkable electrochemical and mechanical stability. Upon implantation into the cortex of mice for a duration of 12 weeks, the modified electrodes exhibit notably decreased levels of glial fibrillary acidic protein and increased neuronal nuclei immunostaining compared to counterparts utilizing poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(styrene sulfonate). Additionally, the PEDOT/3-MPA-Au modified electrodes consistently capture high-quality, stable long-term electrophysiological signals in vivo, enabling continuous recording of target neurons for up to 16 weeks. This innovative modification strategy offers a promising solution for fabricating low-impedance, tissue-friendly, and long-term stable neural interfaces, thereby addressing the shortcomings of conventional neural electrodes. These findings mark a significant advancement toward the development of more reliable and efficacious neural interfaces, with broad implications for both research and clinical applications.

OBJECTIVE: Although glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is known to regulate feeding, the central mechanisms contributing to this function remain enigmatic. Here, we aim to test the role of neurons expressing GLP-1 receptors (GLP-1R) in the dorsolateral septum (dLS; dLSGLP-1R) that project to the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) on food intake and determine the relationship with feeding regulation. METHODS: Using chemogenetic manipulations, we assessed how activation or inhibition of dLSGLP-1R neurons affected food intake in Glp1r-ires-Cre mice. Then, we used channelrhodopsin-assisted circuit mapping, chemogenetics, and electrophysiological recordings to identify and assess the role of the pathway from dLSGLP-1R →LHA projections in regulating food intake. RESULTS: Chemogenetic inhibition of dLSGLP-1R neurons increases food intake. LHA is a major downstream target of dLSGLP-1R neurons. The dLSGLP-1R→LHA projections are GABAergic, and chemogenetic inhibition of this pathway also promotes food intake. While chemogenetic activation of dLSGLP-1R→LHA projections modestly decreases food intake, optogenetic stimulation of the dLSGLP-1R→LHA projection terminals in the LHA rapidly suppresses feeding behavior. Finally, we demonstrate that the GLP-1R agonist, Exendin 4 enhances dLSGLP-1R →LHA GABA release. CONCLUSIONS: Together, these results demonstrate that dLS-GLP-1R neurons and the inhibitory pathway to LHA can regulate feeding behavior, which might serve as a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of eating disorders or obesity.

Background and aims: Cap polyposis (CP) is a rare kind of benign disease, and the majority of previously published relevant articles involve a small number of patients. Hence, we summarized our experience to contribute additional data, hoping to raise awareness of this disease. Methods: From 1 January 2017 to 1 November 2021, consecutive patients diagnosed with CP were retrospectively reviewed. Their medical histories, and laboratory, imaging, endoscopic, and pathology results were analyzed. We made telephone calls to the patients and searched for the information in our electronic medical records to obtain the follow-up results. Results: Forty-one patients were chosen for analysis. The median age of the patients was 20 years old, and 90.24% (37 patients) of the patients were male. The majority of the patients presented with hematochezia. The rectum was the most commonly affected site, and the Helicobacter pylori infection rate was high. There were multiple and combined treatments for these patients. These treatments can be divided into 3 main categories: medical therapy, endotherapy and surgery. Medical therapy helped to diminish the size of but the polyps were difficult to resolve; however, the patients' symptoms could be diminished. Twenty-three patients underwent surgical resection, and 12 patients received endotherapy. We further compared the two methods of polyp resection. Both endotherapy and surgery were safe, and the recurrence risk was not significantly different between the two kinds of therapy (p = 0.321). Conclusion: The clinical improvement of medical treatments was not satisfactory, and endotherapy or surgical resection could remove the polyposis and provide temporary relief, but the recurrence rates were high.

The traditional plasma etching process for defining micro-LED pixels could lead to significant sidewall damage. Defects near sidewall regions act as non-radiative recombination centers and paths for current leakage, significantly deteriorating device performance. In this study, we demonstrated a novel selective thermal oxidation (STO) method that allowed pixel definition without undergoing plasma damage and subsequent dielectric passivation. Thermal annealing in ambient air oxidized and reshaped the LED structure, such as p-layers and InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells. Simultaneously, the pixel areas beneath the pre-deposited SiO2 layer were selectively and effectively protected. It was demonstrated that prolonged thermal annealing time enhanced the insulating properties of the oxide, significantly reducing LED leakage current. Furthermore, applying a thicker SiO2 protective layer minimized device resistance and boosted device efficiency effectively. Utilizing the STO method, InGaN green micro-LED arrays with 50-, 30-, and 10-µm pixel sizes were manufactured and characterized. The results indicated that after 4 h of air annealing and with a 3.5-µm SiO2 protective layer, the 10-µm pixel array exhibited leakage currents density 1.2 × 10-6 A/cm2 at -10 V voltage and a peak on-wafer external quantum efficiency of ~6.48%. This work suggests that the STO method could become an effective approach for future micro-LED manufacturing to mitigate adverse LED efficiency size effects due to the plasma etching and improve device efficiency. Micro-LEDs fabricated through the STO method can be applied to micro-displays, visible light communication, and optical interconnect-based memories. Almost planar pixel geometry will provide more possibilities for the monolithic integration of driving circuits with micro-LEDs. Moreover, the STO method is not limited to micro-LED fabrication and can be extended to design other III-nitride devices, such as photodetectors, laser diodes, high-electron-mobility transistors, and Schottky barrier diodes.
