RESUMEN

Nowadays, due to lifestyle changes, the number of young people suffering from chronic non-specific low back pain (CNLBP) is gradually increasing. The recent guidelines for the treatment of low back pain emphasize that exercise therapy is the preferred treatment method for CNLBP. This study take ordinary college male students with CNLBP as objective of the study, focused into how core stability training affected the pain and muscle function of the CNLBP of youth. Herein, 60 male subjects were randomly divided into a control group and an experimental group, and conducted a randomized control trial in the Sports Rehabilitation Laboratory of Guangxi Normal University from September to October 2023. The control group received traditional waist strength training, while the experimental group received core stability training. VAS scores, pain symptoms scores and clinical efficacy grades were evaluated. Waist muscles fitness was evaluated, including back muscle strength, the prone upper body up's static holding time, 1-min modified sit-ups' pcs, the supine abdominal curling's static holding time and the supine leg raising's static holding time. Waist movement function was also evaluated using oswestry disability index (ODI) questionnaire. Surface electromyographic (EMG) signals were collected from rectus abdominis, erector spinae and multifidus. The independent sample t-test was used to compare groups, and the paired sample t-test was used for the data comparison before and post-exercise within the group. The results of the study found that CNLBP was improved in both the experimental and control groups in the post-exercise. Compared to pre-exercise, there are significant decrease in the VAS scores (95%CI: 2.51 to 6.51, p = 0.000), pain symptoms scores (95%CI: 2.95 to 3.55, p = 0.000), waist movement function's evaluation scores for ODI (95%CI: 2.23 to 4.31, p = 0.000), rectus abdominis' IEMG values (95%CI: 2.29 to 4.39, p = 0.000), erector spinae and multifidus' IEMG values (95%CI: 2.18 to 4.45, p = 0.000) of experimental group in the post-exercise. Compared to pre-exercise, there are significant improvement in the back muscle strength (95%CI: 12.85 to 19.49, p = 0.000), the prone upper body up's static holding time (95%CI: 9.67 to 19.17, p = 0.000), the 1-min modified sit-ups' pcs (95%CI: 8.56 to 18.12, p = 0.000), the supine abdominal curling's static holding time (95%CI: 6.73 to 19.14, p = 0.000), and the supine leg raising's static holding time (95%CI: 8.21 to 18.35, p = 0.000) of experimental group in the post-exercise. In the post-exercise,there are significant lower in the VAS scores (95%CI: 1.41 to 4.98, p = 0.000), pain symptoms scores (95%CI: 1.14 to 1.79, p = 0.011), waist movement function's evaluation scores for ODI (95%CI: 1.13 to 2.25, p = 0.000), rectus abdominis' IEMG values (95%CI: 2.36 to 4.47, p = 0.000), erector spinae and multifidus' IEMG values (95%CI: 2.24 to 4.23, p = 0.017) of experimental group than those of control group. In the post-exercise, there are significant higher in the recovery rate (p = 0.000), the prone upper body up's static holding time (95%CI: 4.16 to 8.32, p = 0.008), and the supine abdominal curling's static holding time (95%CI: 3.89 to 7.44, p = 0.000) of experimental group than those of control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that core stability training is significantly effective in treating CNLBP in youth, enhancing lower back muscle function. This therapeutic effect is primarily attributed to the improvement in muscle function.

BACKGROUND: Core strength training (CST) has been shown to improve performance in several sports disciplines. CST is recognized as one of the crucial elements that enhance athletic performance, particularly impacting badminton skills. Despite its popularity as a strength training method among badminton players, there is a lack of comprehensive studies examining the effectiveness of CST on the performance of these athletes. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to ascertain CST's effects on badminton players' performance. METHOD: This study followed PRISMA principles and conducted comprehensive searches in well-known academic databases (SCOPUS, Pubmed, CNKI, Web of Science, Core Collection, and EBSCOhost) up to August 2023. The inclusive criteria were established using the PICOS framework. Following their inclusion based on PICOS criteria, the selected studies underwent literature review and meta-analysis. The methodological quality of the assessments was evaluated using Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tools bias risk tools and recommendations for a graded assessment, development, and evaluation. RESULTS: The analysis included participants aged 10-19 years from 13 studies of moderate quality, totaling 208 individuals. The CST intervention s lasted between 4 to 16 weeks, with a frequency of 1 to 4 sessions per week and each session lasting 20 to 120 minutes. Sample sizes across these studies ranged from 8 to 34 participants. According to the meta-analysis, CST significantly influenced badminton performance, particularly in areas of explosive power (ES = 0.03 P = 0.04), front-court skill (ES = 2.53, P = 0.003), and back-court skill (ES = 2.33, P = 0.002). CONCLUSION: CST enhances badminton players' fitness (strength, power, balance, and stability), in situ (front/back-court) skills, and movement position hitting. However, its effects on speed, endurance, agility, flexibility, and coordination are unclear, revealing a research gap. The precise benefits of CST, especially on flexibility and specific hitting skills (smashes, clears, drives, net shots, crosscourt, push, and lift shots), need more investigation. Additionally, research on CST's impact on female athletes is significantly lacking.

BACKGROUND: Despite frequent discussions on the link between physical and mental health, the specific impact of physical fitness on mental well-being is yet to be fully established. METHOD: This study, carried out between January 2022 and August 2023, involved 4,484 Chinese University students from eight universities located in various regions of China. It aimed to examine the association between physical fitness on psychological well-being. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and logistic regression were used to analyze the association between physical fitness indicators (e.g., Body Mass Index (BMI), vital capacity, and endurance running) and mental health, assessed using Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90). All procedures were ethically approved, and participants consented to take part in. RESULTS: Our analysis revealed that BMI, vital capacity, and endurance running scores significantly influence mental health indicators. Specifically, a 1-point increase in BMI increases the likelihood of an abnormal psychological state by 10.9%, while a similar increase in vital capacity and endurance running decreases the risk by 2.1% and 4.1%, respectively. In contrast, reaction time, lower limb explosiveness, flexibility, and muscle strength showed no significant effects on psychological states (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Improvements in BMI, vital capacity, and endurance running capabilities are associated with better mental health outcomes, highlighting their potential importance in enhancing overall well-being.

BACKGROUND: The physical and mental health of college students is often mentioned, but there is limited research on a direct relationship between the mental health status of college students and their physical fitness level. This study mainly proves the relationship between Chinese college students' mental health and physical fitness indicators. METHOD: This study collected SCL-90 Scale test results from 5262 students (4012 boys and 1250 girls) through a questionnaire survey and conducted a Sport Quality Test on these students. Statistical software SPSS was applied for differential analysis and logistic regression analysis. Specifically, the differences in sport quality indicators between normal and abnormal mean total scores of psychological tests were analyzed first. Then, the binary logistic regression model was used to explore the impacts of sports quality indicator scores on students' psychological fitness. RESULTS: There are differences in the results of physical fitness tests between students with abnormal psychology and students with normal psychology. The four indexes of students' vital capacity, speed, explosive power of lower limbs, and endurance running are effective in improving students' psychologically abnormal state, and endurance running and improving vital capacity are the most effective methods to improve students' psychologically abnormal state. In the physical tests of Chinese college students, the risk of psychological abnormalities was reduced by 9% for every one-point increase in lung capacity and 10.4% for every one-point increase in endurance running performance. CONCLUSIONS: Chinese college students' physical fitness and mental health are related. The best methods for treating psychological disorders are lung capacity improvement and endurance running. According to the physical test results of Chinese college students, for every 1-point increase in lung capacity and endurance running, the risk of psychological abnormalities decreased by 9% and 10.4%, respectively.

Water splitting using transition metal sulfides as electrocatalysts has gained considerable attention in the field of renewable energy. However, their electrocatalytic activity is often hindered by unfavorable free energies of adsorbed hydrogen and oxygen-containing intermediates. Herein, phosphorus (P)-doped Co3S4/NiS2 heterostructures embedded in N-doped carbon nanoboxes were rationally synthesized via a pyrolysis-sulfidation-phosphorization strategy. The hollow structure of the carbon matrix and the nanoparticles contained within it not only result in a high specific surface area, but also protects them from corrosion and acts as a conductive pathway for efficient electron transfer. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the introduction of P dopants improves the conductivity of NiS2 and Co3S4, promotes the charge transfer process, and creates new electrocatalytic sites. Additionally, the NiS2-Co3S4 heterojunctions can enhance the adsorption efficiency of hydrogen intermediates (H*) and lower the energy barrier of water splitting via a synergistic effect with P-doping. These characteristics collectively enable the titled catalyst to exhibit excellent electrocatalytic activity for water splitting in alkaline medium, requiring only small overpotentials of 150 and 257 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2 for hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions, respectively. This work sheds light on the design and optimization of efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting, with potential implications for renewable energy production.

Background: NSAIDs are one of the most frequently used medications and a risk factor for AKI. However, the optimal time of NSAIDs in patients with AKI is unknown. Methods: A secondary analysis of a multicenter, randomized clinical trial including adult inpatients with acute kidney injury was performed. Univariate, multivariate, and subgroup analyses were used to explore the impact of NSAIDs during the early onset of AKI on the outcome of patients with AKI. Results: A total of 6,030 patients with AKI were enrolled in the study. Following are the findings of the multi-factor analysis: NSAID treatments within 72 and 24 h before the onset of AKI were not associated with AKI progression, dialysis, or discharge from dialysis; only NSAID treatment within the 24-h onset of AKI was associated with these outcomes, and their OR values were independently 1.50 (95% CI: 1.02-2.19, p = 0.037), 4.20 (95% CI: 1.47-11.97, p = 0.007), and 0.71 (95% CI: 0.54-0.92, p = 0.011); only NSAID treatment within the 24-h onset of AKI would decrease the 14-day mortality, and the OR value was 0.52 (95% CI: 0.33-0.82, p = 0.005). The subgroup analysis revealed that in patients with age ≥65 years, CKD (chronic kidney disease), congestive heart failure, hypertension, and liver disease, NSAID treatments within the 24-h onset of AKI would deteriorate the outcome of patients with AKI. Conclusion: Before an early onset of AKI, NSAID treatment might be safe, but during the onset of AKI, even early NSAID treatment would deteriorate the outcome of patients with AKI.

Junctional adhesion molecule-like protein (JAML), a newly discovered junctional adhesion molecule (JAM), mediates the adhesion and migration processes of various immune cells and endothelial/epithelial cells, ultimately regulating inflammation reaction. However, its role in tumors remains to be determined. The expression of JAML was examined in gastric cancer (GC) and peritumoral tissues from 63 patients. The relationship between JAML expression and clinical characteristics was also observed. In vitro, GC cell migration and proliferation were assessed by wound healing assay, transwell migration assay and EdU incorporation assay. Immunohistochemical staining results showed that JAML expression level was higher in GC tissues than in peritumoral tissues. High expression of JAML in cancer tissues was associated with worse cell differentiation, local lymph node involvement, deep infiltration, and advanced stage. In vitro, we found that JAML silencing inhibited GC cell migration and proliferation, while JAML overexpression promoted GC cell migration and proliferation, partially via p38 signaling. Taken together, our study revealed a critical role for JAML to promote GC cell migration and proliferation. JAML might be a novel diagnostic biomarker and therapeutic target for GC.

While cancer is often related to hyperfibrinogenemia, it is rarely related to hypofibrinogenemia. Specifically, gastric cancer concomitant with unprovoked hypofibrinogenemia and the corresponding treatment approach have been rarely reported. We presented a case of gastric cancer in a 78-year-old Chinese woman in whom sudden, unprovoked refractory hypofibrinogenemia had been found during the whole brain radiotherapy despite stable clinical condition. Fibrinogen supplementation was not useful for controlling her level of fibrinogen. However, when she received sintilimab, an immunotherapy drug acting as programmed death receptor 1 inhibitor, to treat her gastric cancer, fibrinogen rose to the normal level. We also reviewed the literature to explore the causes of hypofibrinogenemia in tumor patients. This case suggests that we need to pay attention to tumor-related coagulation disorders, and monitoring coagulation indicators is essential. Treating primary disease by immunotherapy drugs may be an important method to improve the level of coagulation factors. This is the first report of sintilimab reversing a rare refractory hypofibrinogenemia in a patient with gastric cancer.

OBJECTIVE: The previous studies on angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) insertion/deletion (I/D) genetic polymorphism and glioma risk were inconsistent. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis to assess the association between ACE I/D polymorphisms and glioma risk. METHODS AND RESULTS: In total, four populations (1110 cases and 1335 controls) on ACE I/D polymorphism were included. Overall, the meta-analysis demonstrated no significant association between ACE I/D polymorphism and glioma risk. In addition, the analysis of the association of ACE I/D polymorphism and clinical grade also showed no significant association. CONCLUSION: Our meta-analysis didn't find a significant association between ACE I/D polymorphism glioma risk. However, further studies with larger sample size and more ethnic groups are required to confirm the results.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Acinetobacter baumannii is an aerobic and Gram-negative bacterial pathogen with high morbidity and mortality. It remains a serious public health problem arising from its multidrug-resistant and extensive antibiotic resistance spectrum. METHODS: In the present study, iTRAQ coupled with 2D LC-MS/MS was used to evaluate the proteome in standard Acinetobacter baumannii standard strains and tigecycline-resistant strains. RESULTS: A total of 3639 proteins were identified and 961 proteins were identified to be differentially expressed in tigecycline-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii strains compared to the standard strains. 506 (52.6%) proteins were up-regulated and 455 (47.4%) proteins were down-regulated. Based on the GO enrichment analysis and KEGG pathway analysis, we concluded that most differentially expressed proteins were associated with stress responses, cellular component organization, proteins synthesis, degradation and function. Moreover, ß-lactam resistance, the longevity regulating pathway and other related pathways were also involved in the regulation of tigecycline-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii. The differential expression of key proteins were evaluated by transcript analysis using quantitative RT-PCR. CONCLUSION: These results may provide new insights into the mechanisms of drug resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii.

The clinical significance of tumor markers after radical gastrectomy has not been well characterized. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of early postoperative tumor marker normalization in N3 stage gastric cancer (GC) patients. A total of 259 N3 stage GC patients with preoperatively elevated carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA, >5 ng/mL) or carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9, >37 U/mL) levels underwent radical gastrectomy were analyzed retrospectively. Early postoperative tumor marker response was considered as a normalization of CEA or CA19-9 levels 4 weeks after surgery. The disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were analyzed. N3 stage GC patients were divided into N3a (n = 157) and N3b (n = 102) groups according to the 8th TNM stage system. Early tumor marker response was identified in 96 of 157 N3a patients (61.15%) and 57 of 102 N3b patients (55.88%). In N3 stage GC patients with a tumor marker response, significant increase was observed in both DFS (25.2 months vs 12.5 months, P < .001) and OS (32.5 months vs 18.5 months, P < .001) compared with those without tumor marker response. N3b patients with a tumor marker response showed more favorable DFS (19.2 months vs 13.6 months, P = .019) and OS (25.8 months vs 19.0 months, P = .013) compared with N3a patients lacking a tumor marker response. Multivariate analysis revealed that early tumor marker response was an independent factor for DFS and OS in N3 stage GC, as well as for depth of invasion and metastatic lymph node rate (P < .05). Early postoperative CEA or CA19-9 normalization serves as a strong prognostic indicator in N3 stage GC. Both N3a and N3b patients with increased early postoperative tumor marker levels showed poor outcomes.

In this paper, Au/CuS composites were fabricated by a two-step method based on a facile solvothermal approach combined with the in situ reduction. It was demonstrated that the Au/CuS composite not only exhibited excellent peroxidase-like catalytic activity in the oxidation of the typical peroxidases (o-phenylenediamine and diaminobenzidine), but also showed promising SERS performance with remarkable sensitivity and high reproducibility. Based on these properties, the bi-functional Au/CuS composite was employed both as a catalyst for degrading a pollutant (Rhodamine 6G) and a SERS substrate for real-time monitoring of the degradation process quantitatively.

From three interferograms with unknown phase shifts, an innovative phase retrieval approach based on the normalized difference maps is proposed. Using the subtraction operation between interferograms, two difference maps without background can be achieved. To eliminate the amplitude inequality of difference maps, normalization process is employed so that two normalized difference maps are obtained. Finally, combining two normalized difference maps and two-step phase retrieval algorithm, the measured phase with high precision can be retrieved rapidly. Comparing with the conventional two-step phase retrieval algorithm with high-pass filtering, the accuracy and processing time of the proposed approach are greatly improved. Importantly, when the phase shift is close to π, almost all two-step algorithms become invalid, but the proposed approach still performs well. That is, the proposed normalized difference maps approach is suitable for the phase retrieval with arbitrary phase shifts.

To study on the 10-deacetyl baccatin III extract from the leaves and branches of Taxus mairei. A new method was proposed to extract and purify 10-DAB III, which was adopted as the parent nucleus of the high efficacious antitumour drug-taxol and docetaxel in the compositive synthesis. Optimization selection was also made in the extraction and purification conditions of taxol. The purity quotient of 10-DAB III obtained via this technics could reach 91%, with the yield above 70%. It has been testified that the technics was feasible in industrial practice.

The gastrointestinal epithelium is known to undergo constant and rapid renewal resulting in millions of cells being shed into the fecal stream every day. The conventional wisdom was that these cells disintegrate upon exfoliation and will not survive the transit through the intestinal tract. In 1990, we (P.N.) made the discovery that a significant number of these cells remain intact and viable and that they can be isolated. The implications of this important discovery became apparent when we demonstrated that these cells are exclusively of colonic origin, are anatomically representative of the entire colon, and can be used for clinical investigations of disease processes. The term coprocytobiology (CCB) was coined to encompass the broad range of applications of this new technology. The somatic cell sampling and recovery (SCSR) process involves the isolation of exfoliated colonocytes from a small sample of stool ( approximately 1 g) collected and transported in a unique medium at ambient temperature, providing cells for the detection of a number of biomarkers of disease propensity. These exfoliated colonocytes express cytokeratins indicating epithelial lineage as well as colon-specific antigen. Over the years, the study of exfoliated colonocytes has provided striking new insights into the biology of colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, including detection of p53 gene mutations, reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction amplification, and identification of CD44 splice variants, neoplasia-associated specific binding of plant lectins, and expression of COX-2, the inducible form of cyclooxygenase. The functional diversity of cells isolated by SCSR is revealed by the demonstration of cell surface markers such as secretory component, IgA, and IgG on the one hand and the amplification and cloning of the human insulin receptor and the expression of the multidrug resistance gene mdr-1 on the other hand.
