RESUMEN

Conductive agro-industrial wastes as accelerants in the anaerobic digestion (AD) of organic waste is a good technique for developing a rural circular economy, such as producing bioenergy and biofertilizer. This study disclosed the a role of sugar cane bagasse ash (SCBA) in enhancing the bioenergy (biogas) yield and digestate fertility via anaerobic co-digestion (AcoD) of buffalo dung (BD) and vegetable residue (VR) under mesophilic conditions (37 á´¼C). Firstly, an optimal BD/VR ratio (1:3) was determined based on biogas yield by introducing five different BD/VR ratios (1:0, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, and 0:1) into AcoD systems. Secondly, the biogas yield was increased further by adding SCBA at five different concentrations (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 wt%). Experimental results disclosed that the 1.5 wt% of SCBA gave the highest cumulative biogas yield (153.67 mL/g VS), COD removal rate (31.18%), and fertility (5.08%). Moreover, a framework is suggested to understand the role of SCBA in the enhanced DIET mechanism. This work documents an environmentally friendly and economical technique for developing a rural circular bioeconomy via the AD of organic agro-waste.

RESUMEN

At the dawn of the next-generation wireless systems and networks, massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) in combination with leading-edge technologies, methodologies, and architectures are poised to be a cornerstone technology. Capitalizing on its successful integration and scalability within 5G and beyond, massive MIMO has proven its merits and adaptability. Notably, a series of evolutionary advancements and revolutionary trends have begun to materialize in recent years, envisioned to redefine the landscape of future 6G wireless systems and networks. In particular, the capabilities and performance of future massive MIMO systems will be amplified through the incorporation of cutting-edge technologies, structures, and strategies. These include intelligent omni-surfaces (IOSs)/intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), artificial intelligence (AI), Terahertz (THz) communications, and cell-free architectures. In addition, an array of diverse applications built on the foundation of massive MIMO will continue to proliferate and thrive. These encompass wireless localization and sensing, vehicular communications, non-terrestrial communications, remote sensing, and inter-planetary communications, among others.

RESUMEN

The developments on next generation IoT sensing devices, with the advances on their low power computational capabilities and high speed networking has led to the introduction of the edge computing paradigm. Within an edge cloud environment, services may generate and consume data locally, without involving cloud computing infrastructures. Aiming to tackle the low computational resources of the IoT nodes, Virtual-Function-Chain has been proposed as an intelligent distribution model for exploiting the maximum of the computational power at the edge, thus enabling the support of demanding services. An intelligent migration model with the capacity to support Virtual-Function-Chains is introduced in this work. According to this model, migration at the edge can support individual features of a Virtual-Function-Chain. First, auto-healing can be implemented with cold migrations, if a Virtual Function fails unexpectedly. Second, a Quality of Service monitoring model can trigger live migrations, aiming to avoid edge devices overload. The evaluation studies of the proposed model revealed that it has the capacity to increase the robustness of an edge-based service on low-powered IoT devices. Finally, comparison with similar frameworks, like Kubernetes, showed that the migration model can effectively react on edge network fluctuations.

RESUMEN

This paper aims the development of a new reduced-cost algorithm for a multi-objective robust transmitter placement under uncertainty. Toward this end, we propose a new hybrid Kriging/Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) approach combined with robust design optimization to estimate the set of Pareto frontier by searching robustness as well as accuracy (lower objective function) in a design space. We consider minimization of the energy power consumption for transmitting as well as maximization of signal coverage in a multi-objective robust optimization model. The reliability of the model to control signal overlap for multiple transmitting antennas is also provided. To smooth computational cost, the proposed method instead of evaluating all receiver test points in each optimization iteration approximates signal coverages using Kriging interpolation to obtain optimal transmitter positions. The results demonstrate the utility and the efficiency of the proposed method in rendering the robust optimal design and analyzing the sensitivity of the transmitter placement problem under practically less-expensive computational efforts (350% and 320% less than computational time elapsed using standalone GWO and NSGAII respectively).

RESUMEN

Narrowband internet of things (NB-IoT) is a recent cellular radio access technology based on Long-Term Evolution (LTE) introduced by Third-Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN). The main aim of NB-IoT is to support massive machine-type communication (mMTC) and enable low-power, low-cost, and low-data-rate communication. NB-IoT is based on LTE design with some changes to meet the mMTC requirements. For example, in the physical (PHY) layer only single-antenna and low-order modulations are supported, and in the Medium Access Control (MAC) layers only one physical resource block is allocated for resource scheduling. The aim of this survey is to provide a comprehensive overview of the design changes brought in the NB-IoT standardization along with the detailed research developments from the perspectives of Physical and MAC layers.

RESUMEN

Tracking people's behaviors is a main category of cyber physical social sensing (CPSS)-related people-centric applications. Most tracking methods utilize camera networks or sensors built into mobile devices such as global positioning system (GPS) and Bluetooth. In this article, we propose a non-intrusive wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi)-based tracking method. To show the feasibility, we target tracking people's access behaviors in Wi-Fi networks, which has drawn a lot of interest from the academy and industry recently. Existing methods used for acquiring access traces either provide very limited visibility into media access control (MAC)-level transmission dynamics or sometimes are inflexible and costly. In this article, we present a passive CPSS system operating in a non-intrusive, flexible, and simplified manner to overcome above limitations. We have implemented the prototype on the off-the-shelf personal computer, and performed real-world deployment experiments. The experimental results show that the method is feasible, and people's access behaviors can be correctly tracked within a one-second delay.
