RESUMEN

PURPOSE: The composition and properties of resin-based composite materials could affect tooth wear and lead to clinical problems. Therefore, the study objective was to characterize human tooth wear behavior against a bulk-fill restorative (BF) compared to a conventional resin composite (RC) and a CAD/CAM resin nano ceramic (RN). METHODS: Square-shaped specimens of each material were prepared and sub-divided according to the number of testing cycles (n=8): 100,000, 250,000, and 500,000 cycles. An occlusal wear test was performed using a chewing machine with 49 N, 2 Hz, in 37°C distilled water. Human premolar cusps were used as antagonists. Micro-CT and laser scanner were used to scan antagonists and specimens, respectively. Wear volume was assessed using a software and the wear pattern was examined with SEM. Softening in solvent analysis was performed by measuring the materials' Knoop microhardness (KHN) before and after immersion in ethanol. Wear volume data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA and Student-Neuman-Keuls test (α=0.05). RESULTS: For tooth and specimen wear volume, there was statistical significance for material and number of cycles, but not for the interaction between factors. BF resulted in less tooth (p=0.008) and specimen (p=0.030) wear than RN and RC, which were similar (p⟩0.05). Volume loss increased from 100,000 to 500,000 cycles. BF showed the lowest microhardness (KHN1); and %ΔKHN similar to RC, but greater than RN. CONCLUSION: BF induced less volume loss to the tooth than RC and RN, while presenting greater wear resistance. The tooth wear pattern and damage progression were mild for all materials. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Resin composites show favorable wear behavior, leading to low volume loss and mild structural damage of the tooth. Regular bulk-fill resin composite stands out for its efficient restorative technique, low wear susceptibility and reduced capacity to wear down the tooth.

RESUMEN

A new species of Ancyracanthus, parasite of the electric eel Electrophorus varii, in the Brazilian Amazon, is described based on morphological and molecular characterization. Ancyracanthus electrophori n. sp. differs from the two congeners namely, Ancyracanthus pinnatifidus and Ancyracanthus schubarti, based on the structure of cephalic appendages, number and arrangement of caudal papillae in males, vulva very close to anus in females, eggs with smoothly mamillated shell, host taxon and geographical origin. Moreover, the new species is the first in the genus to be described with thorny cuticular rings and to be observed with the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The morphology of A. pinnatifidus and A. schubarti is still poorly-known and should be revised in details; however, the separation between them and the new species was clear. Genetic characterization based on 28S rDNA and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) mtDNA partial sequences, performed for the first time in Acyracanthus, along with phylogenetic reconstructions using both genetic markers, placed Ancyracanthus electrophori n. sp. in a suggestive basal position within Gnathostomatidae. Phylogenetic reconstructions using cox1 sequences also suggested lack of monophyly in the genera Gnathostoma and Spiroxys and, consequently, in the subfamilies Gnathostominae and Spiroxyinae. However, such results are preliminary. With the first genetic characterization and observations using SEM in Ancyracanthus, resulting in the discovery of a new species and in the expansion of the geographical occurrence of the genus to Amazonian fish, an important step towards a better understanding of these nematodes has been taken.

Soil hydrology, nutrient availability, and forest disturbance determine the variation of tropical tree species composition locally. However, most habitat filtering is explained by tree species' hydraulic traits along the hydrological gradient. We asked whether these patterns apply to lianas. At the community level, we investigated whether hydrological gradient, soil fertility, and forest disturbance explain liana species composition and whether liana species-environment relationships are mediated by leaf and stem wood functional traits. We sampled liana species composition in 18 1-ha plots across a 64 km2 landscape in Central Amazonia and measured eleven leaf and stem wood traits across 115 liana species in 2000 individuals. We correlated liana species composition, summarized using PCoA with the functional composition summarized using principal coordinate analysis (PCA), employing species mean values of traits at the plot level. We tested the relationship between ordination axes and environmental gradients. Liana species composition was highly correlated with functional composition. Taxonomic (PCoA) and functional (PCA) compositions were strongly associated with the hydrological gradient, with a slight influence from forest disturbance on functional composition. Species in valley areas had larger stomata size and higher proportions of self-supporting xylem than in plateaus. Liana species on plateaus invest more in fast-growing leaves (higher SLA), although they show a higher wood density. Our study reveals that lianas use different functional solutions in dealing with each end of the hydrological gradient and that the relationships among habitat preferences and traits explain lianas species distributions less directly than previously found in trees.

Periodontal disease (PD) is a polymicrobial chronic inflammatory condition of the supporting tissues around the teeth, leading to the destruction of surrounding connective tissue. During the progression of PD, osteoclasts play a crucial role in the resorption of alveolar bone that eventually leads to the loss of teeth if the PD is left untreated. Therefore, the development of antiresorptive therapies targeting bone-resorbing cells will significantly benefit the treatment of PD. Here, we demonstrate the inhibitory effect of CsinCPI-2, a novel cysteine peptidase inhibitor from the orange tree, on periodontitis-induced inflammation, alveolar bone loss, and osteoclast differentiation. Using the ligature-induced periodontitis model in mice, we show that treatment with CsinCPI-2 (0.8 µg/g of body weight) significantly reduced inflammatory cell infiltrate in the connective tissue and prevented the loss of alveolar bone mass (BV/TV) caused by PD, effects associated with diminished numbers of TRAP-positive multinucleated cells. Furthermore, CsinCPI-2 significantly downregulated the numbers of inflammatory cells expressing CD3, CD45, MAC387, and IL-1ß. In vitro, CsinCPI-2 inhibited RANKL-induced TRAP+ multinucleated osteoclast formation in mouse bone marrow macrophage cultures in a concentration-dependent manner. This effect was not due to cytotoxicity, as demonstrated by the MTT assay. CsinCPI-2 inhibited RANKL-induced mRNA expression of Acp5, Calcr, and Ctsk, as well as the RANKL-induced upregulation of Nfatc1, a crucial transcription factor for osteoclast differentiation. Based on our findings, CsinCPI-2 prevents bone loss induced by PD by controlling the inflammatory process and acting directly on osteoclastogenesis, suggesting an interesting potential for CsinCPI-2 in the strategy for PD treatment.

The COVID-19 global pandemic has had severe, unpredictable and synchronous impacts on all levels of perishable food supply chains (PFSC), across multiple sectors and spatial scales. Aquaculture plays a vital and rapidly expanding role in food security, in some cases overtaking wild caught fisheries in the production of high-quality animal protein in this PFSC. We performed a rapid global assessment to evaluate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and related emerging control measures on the aquaculture supply chain. Socio-economic effects of the pandemic were analysed by surveying the perceptions of stakeholders, who were asked to describe potential supply-side disruption, vulnerabilities and resilience patterns along the production pipeline with four main supply chain components: a) hatchery, b) production/processing, c) distribution/logistics and d) market. We also assessed different farming strategies, comparing land- vs. sea-based systems; extensive vs. intensive methods; and with and without integrated multi-trophic aquaculture, IMTA. In addition to evaluating levels and sources of economic distress, interviewees were asked to identify mitigation solutions adopted at local / internal (i.e., farm-site) scales, and to express their preference on national / external scale mitigation measures among a set of a priori options. Survey responses identified the potential causes of disruption, ripple effects, sources of food insecurity, and socio-economic conflicts. They also pointed to various levels of mitigation strategies. The collated evidence represents a first baseline useful to address future disaster-driven responses, to reinforce the resilience of the sector and to facilitate the design reconstruction plans and mitigation measures, such as financial aid strategies.

The sugarcane hairy borer, Hyponeuma taltula (Schaus, 1904), attacks the base of sugarcane and causes the death of the apical bud, a symptom known as "dead heart." In recent years, there has been significant infestation in Brazilian sugarcane crops. With the purpose of finding methods for controlling and/or monitoring the pest for the sustainable cultivation of sugarcane, we characterized the mating behavior of H. taltula and confirmed the release of a sex pheromone by this insect. Sexual activity was observed between the second and ninth hour of scotophase, during which female calling caused the onset of male courtship behaviors and increased their frequency. An ethogram was built showing that males perform seven observable steps: (1) wing flapping, (2) walking with wing flapping, (3) flying, (4) flying towards the female, (5) landing near the female and walking around her, (6) attempting copulation, and (7) copulation (mating). Female sex gland extracts also triggered attraction and male courtship behaviors. These results thus confirm that the female abdominal gland produces a sex pheromone and that the presence of this pheromone in the air is needed to initiate the male courtship sequence. The sexual behavior of H. taltula is compatible with control and/or monitoring methods using female sex pheromones.

PURPOSE: Orthodontic treatment is based on the principle of force application to teeth and subsequently to the surrounding tissues and periodontal cells. Sequestosome 1 (SQSTM1) is a well-known marker for autophagy, which is an important cellular mechanism of adaptation to stress. The aim of this study was to analyze whether biomechanical loading conditions regulate SQSTM1 in periodontal cells and tissues, thereby providing further information on the role of autophagy in orthodontic tooth movement. METHODS: Periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblasts were exposed to cyclic tensile strain of low magnitude (3%, CTSL), and the regulation of autophagy-associated targets was determined with an array-based approach. SQSTM1 was selected for further biomechanical loading experiments with dynamic and static tensile strain and assessed via real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and immunoblotting. Signaling pathways involved in SQSTM1 activation were analyzed by using specific inhibitors, including an autophagy inhibitor. Finally, SQSTM1 expression was analyzed in gingival biopsies and histological sections of rats in presence and absence of orthodontic forces. RESULTS: Multiple autophagy-associated targets were regulated by CTSL in PDL fibroblasts. All biomechanical loading conditions tested increased the SQSTM1 expression significantly. Stimulatory effects of CTSL on SQSTM1 expression were diminished by inhibition of the c­Jun N­terminal kinase (JNK) pathway and of autophagy. Increased SQSTM1 levels after CTSL were confirmed by immunoblotting. Orthodontic force application also led to significantly elevated SQTSM1 levels in the gingiva and PDL of treated animals as compared to control. CONCLUSIONS: Our in vitro and in vivo findings provide evidence of a role of SQSTM1 and thereby autophagy in orthodontic tooth movement.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Little is known about the quality of life (QoL) of adults with cerebral palsy (CP). This systematic review aimed to examine the extent to which methodological best practices have been applied to achieve valid and informative QoL assessments for this population. METHODS AND PROCEDURES: Systematic search identified 1097 non-duplicated, quantitative articles assessing self- and/or proxy-reported QoL in samples of adults with CP. Eighteen studies were included and data extraction was conducted for sampling characteristics, selection of informants (self- and proxy-reports), adequacy of administered measures, and examination of age-related specificities. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS: The results revealed discrepancies between conceptual definitions of QoL and their measurement approaches in CP. Most papers relied on self-reports. Most studies were cross-sectional and often based on relatively small samples; the variable of age was considered inconsistently in statistical analyses. CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS: Future strategies to improve the validity and applicability of QoL assessments of adults with CP would include: using a clear definition of QoL aligned with the measurement employed; considering proxy-reports whenever appropriate, to encompass larger samples and a wider range of ability; and using age-stratified analyses, in order to deepen understanding of potentially modifiable variables and paths linked to QoL outcomes.

Lead-based organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (OIHP) solar cells can attain efficiencies over 20%. However, the impact of ion mobility and/or organic depletion, structural changes, and segregation under operating conditions urge for decisive and more accurate investigations. Hence, the development of analytical tools for accessing the grain-to-grain OIHP chemistry is of great relevance. Here, we used synchrotron infrared nanospectroscopy (nano-FTIR) to map individual nanograins in OIHP films. Our results reveal a spatial heterogeneity of the vibrational activity associated to the nanoscale chemical diversity of isolated grains. It was possible to map the chemistry of individual grains in CsFAMA [Cs0.05FA0.79MA0.16Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3] and FAMA [FA0.83MA0.17Pb(I0.83Br0.17)3] films, with information on their local composition. Nanograins with stronger nano-FTIR activity in CsFAMA and FAMA films can be assigned to PbI2 and hexagonal polytype phases, respectively. The analysis herein can be extended to any OIHP films where organic cation depletion/accumulation can be used as a chemical label to study composition.

INTRODUCTION: Periodontitis is characterized by inflammatory mediators beyond T lymphocyte function and phenotype (Th1/Th2/Th17). The clinical diversity in periodontitis makes it difficult to characterize the immune response in patients. This study evaluated the profile of the adaptive immune response in the periodontal disease model. METHODS: 72 rats (Wistar) were divided into a control group (CTL/day 0) and periodontitis (PD15/15 days and PD60/60 days). In the PD15 and PD60 groups, periodontal disease was induced by ligature with a silk thread placed in the cervical region of the upper first molar. After euthanasia, the periodontal tissue was analyzed by flow cytometry (CD4, CD8, CD25, CD44), semi-quantitative RT-PCR (T-bet, GATA-3, RORγt), semi-quantitative RT-PCR and ELISA IFN-γ, TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17) and by Western blotting (Caspase-9, PCNA). RESULTS: The number of CD4+CD25+, CD4+CD44+, CD8+CD25+ and CD8+CD44+ cells and expression levels of T-bet and GATA-3 are increased in the PD60 group compared to PD15 and CTL. The RORγ-t gene transcript increased in the PD15 group in relation to PD60 and CTL. The cytokines IFN-γ, TNF-α and IL-17 increased in the PD60 group in relation to PD15. The expression of Caspase-9 was higher in the PD60 group than in PD15. CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the evolution of gingivitis to periodontitis is related to the accumulation of activated Th1 cells (IFN-γ and TNF-α) associated with the presence of increased IL-17. Studies with inhibitors of these cytokines in periodontal disease may lead to therapy directed at blocking the inflammatory process in this pathology, interrupting bone loss.

RESUMEN

The AQUACROSS project was an unprecedented effort to unify policy concepts, knowledge, and management of freshwater, coastal, and marine ecosystems to support the cost-effective achievement of the targets set by the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020. AQUACROSS aimed to support EU efforts to enhance the resilience and stop the loss of biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems as well as to ensure the ongoing and future provision of aquatic ecosystem services. The project focused on advancing the knowledge base and application of Ecosystem-Based Management. Through elaboration of eight diverse case studies in freshwater and marine and estuarine aquatic ecosystem across Europe covering a range of environmental management problems including, eutrophication, sustainable fisheries as well as invasive alien species AQUACROSS demonstrated the application of a common framework to establish cost-effective measures and integrated Ecosystem-Based Management practices. AQUACROSS analysed the EU policy framework (i.e. goals, concepts, time frames) for aquatic ecosystems and built on knowledge stemming from different sources (i.e. WISE, BISE, Member State reporting within different policy processes, modelling) to develop innovative management tools, concepts, and business models (i.e. indicators, maps, ecosystem assessments, participatory approaches, mechanisms for promoting the delivery of ecosystem services) for aquatic ecosystems at various scales of space and time and relevant to different ecosystem types.

INTRODUCTION: The lung transplantation (LTx) program began in Ceará in 2011 and the first LTx was performed on June 11, 2011. The aim of this study was to present the initial results of the 6-year experience of our program. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed our experience on LTx from June 2011 to August 2017. Data on recipients and transoperative and postoperative outcomes were recorded in a database. RESULTS: Twenty-two (56.4%) were single LTx, 15 (38.5%) were double, and 2 (5.1%) bilateral lobar. The mean age was 47.5 ± 15 years, and 26 (66.7%) were men. Twenty-eight (71.8%) had pulmonary fibrosis; 5 (12.8%) had pulmonary emphysema, 3 (7.7%) had bronchiectasis; 2 (5.1%) had pulmonary hypertension, and 1 (2.6%) had lymphangioleiomyomatosis. Complications occurred in 82% (32/39) and in-hospital mortality was 30.8% (single LTx = 27.8% and double LTx = 33.3%). The main complications were infection in 17 (43.5%) cases and primary graft dysfunction in 7 (17.9%). There was a significant improvement in pulmonary function in the first year of follow-up (forced expiratory volume pre-LTx = 37% ± 16% and 12 months post-LTx = 72% ± 22%, P = .001); and overall survival at 36 months was 59.0%, with no difference between single- and double-lung transplants. CONCLUSIONS: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis was the most common underlying disease and single LTx was the most commonly performed operation. There was a high incidence of postoperative complications and in-hospital mortality, but the 36-month follow-up showed a marked improvement in lung function and a global survival similar to the literature.

In this work we synthesized an activated carbon/magnetite composite by a simple co-precipitation method. The activated carbon (AC) was synthesized from the solid waste obtained in the extraction process of the peroxidase enzyme and the magnetic composite was used as support for the immobilization of soybean peroxidase (SP). After the determination of the optimal immobilization parameters, a 100% yield was achieved under the following conditions: support:enzyme proportion of 1.0:0.05 g, equilibration time of 7 h, pH 3.0 (citrate buffer phosphate 0.1 mol L-1) and temperature of 50 °C. The determination of pH to the point of zero charge was also done to assist in the understanding of the immobilization process at different pH values. Several characterization techniques were used, such as thermogravimetric analysis, elemental analysis composition, X-ray powder diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Scanning electron microscopy. The biocatalyst presented excellent operational stability and was reused for 11 consecutive cycles. The magnetic properties inserted in the AC contributed to the removal of the biocatalyst from the reaction medium without interfering in the adsorptive characteristics of the AC. Thus, the activated carbon/magnetite composite can be applied to different research fields with high performance.

OBJECTIVES: Damage-regulated autophagy modulator (DRAM) 1 is a p53 target gene with possible involvement in oral inflammation and infection. This study sought to examine the presence and regulation of DRAM1 in periodontal diseases. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In vitro, human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were exposed to interleukin (IL)-1ß and Fusobacterium nucleatum for up to 2 days. The DRAM1 synthesis and its regulation were analyzed by real-time PCR, immunocytochemistry, and ELISA. Expressions of other autophagy-associated genes were also studied by real-time PCR. In vivo, synthesis of DRAM1 in gingival biopsies from rats and patients with and without periodontal disease was examined by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry. For statistics, ANOVA and post-hoc tests were applied (p < 0.05). RESULTS: In vitro, DRAM1 was significantly upregulated by IL-1ß and F. nucleatum over 2 days and a wide range of concentrations. Additionally, increased DRAM1 protein levels in response to both stimulants were observed. Autophagy-associated genes ATG3, BAK1, HDAC6, and IRGM were also upregulated under inflammatory or infectious conditions. In vivo, the DRAM1 gene expression was significantly enhanced in rat gingival biopsies with induced periodontitis as compared to control. Significantly increased DRAM1 levels were also detected in human gingival biopsies from sites of periodontitis as compared to healthy sites. CONCLUSION: Our data provide novel evidence that DRAM1 is increased under inflammatory and infectious conditions in periodontal cells and tissues, suggesting a pivotal role of DRAM1 in oral inflammation and infection. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: DRAM1 might be a promising target in future diagnostic and treatment strategies for periodontitis.

OBJECTIVE: This study examines the electromyography pattern of abdominal trigger points developed after a caesarean section, and the association between clinical response and local anaesthetic injection. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: A tertiary university hospital. POPULATION: Twenty-nine women with chronic pelvic pain associated with trigger points after a caesarean section were included in the study. METHODS: Participants received needle electromyography before treatment, then underwent a treatment protocol consisting of trigger-point injection of 2 ml of 1% lidocaine. The protocol was repeated once a week for 4 weeks. The clinical responses of the patients were compared 1 week after and 3 months after treatment. The clinical trial is registered with the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry (REBEC) under RBR-42c6gz (www.ensaiosclinicos.gov.br/rg/RBR-42c6gz/). MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Needle electromyography and algometry results and pain reduction. RESULTS: Fifteen patients had abnormal electromyography findings; 14 had normal findings. The rates of response 1 week and 3 months after treatment within the abnormal electromyography group were 95 and 87%, respectively. In the normal group, the rate was 38% both 1 week after and 3 months after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Trigger points developed after caesarean section, even without clinical symptoms or signs of neuralgia, may originate from neuropathies. Electromyographic abnormalities were associated with pain remission after anaesthesia injection; normal electromyography findings were associated with undiagnosed causes of pain, such as adhesions. TWEETABLE ABSTRACT: Trigger points developed after caesarean section are neuropathies, even in the absence of classical neuralgia.

Objetivou-se avaliar resposta inflamatória e concentrações de proteínas em líquido peritonealde asininas submetidas à ovariectomia por laparotomia e laparoscopia. Foram utilizadas 18 fêmeas adultas, pesando em média 100kg, as quais foram divididas em dois grupos, de nove animais cada: o grupo I, em que foram ovariectomizadas por laparotomia, e o grupo II por laparoscopia. Após as cirurgias, em ambos os grupos foram avaliadas as seguintes variáveis no líquido peritoneal: pH, densidade, número de hemácias, leucócitos e proteínas de fase aguda (fibrinogênio, haptoglobina, albumina, antitripsina, alfa-1 glicoproteína ácida, ceruloplasmina, transferrina, imunoglobulinas A e G). Todas as variáveis foram analisadas antes das cirurgias, 12, 24, 48, 72 horas, oito e 16 dias após os procedimentos cirúrgicos. O número de hemácias e leucócitos aumentou 24 horas depois das cirurgias nos dois grupos. Haptoglobina, alfa-1 glicoproteína ácida,albumina, transferrina, gamaglobulinas A, G e proteínas totais aumentaram nos dois grupos. As concentrações de ceruloplasmina não variaram enquanto a antitripsina não foi detectada no líquido peritoneal de asininos.Foi identificada uma proteína com23.000kD, que não tem denominação nem descrição no líquido peritoneal de asininos.(AU)


The aim of this study was to evaluate the inflammatory response and protein concentrations in the peritoneal fluid of donkeys submitted to laparotomy and laparoscopic ovariectomy. Eighteen adult females, weighing on average 100kg, were divided into two groups, of 09 animals each, where in group I, they were ovariectomized by laparotomy and group II by laparoscopy. Following the surgeries, the following variables were evaluated in the peritoneal fluid: pH, density, number of red cells, leukocytes and acute phase proteins (fibrinogen, haptoglobin, albumin, antitrypsin, alpha-1 acid glycoprotein, ceruloplasmin, transferrin, Immunoglobulins A and G). All variables were analyzed before the surgeries, 12, 24, 48, 72 hours, 8 and 16 days after the surgical procedures. The number of red cells and leukocytes increased 24 hours after the surgeries in both groups. Haptoglobin, alpha-1 acid glycoprotein, albumin, transferrin, gammaglobulins A and G, and total proteins increased in both groups. Concentrations of ceruloplasmin did not change while antitrypsin was not detected in the asinine peritoneal fluid. A protein of 23,000kD, which has no name or description in the peritoneal liquid of donkeys, has been identified.(AU)

Lymphoma is a malignant tumor characterized by cell proliferation of lymphoid origin and corresponds to 90% of all hematopoietic neoplasms of dogs. Regulatory T cells (Tregs) have been the target of many investigations in oncology due to their potential of down-regulating immune responses, as well as ensuring the maintenance of active mechanisms of tumor suppression. The aims of the present study were to compare the percentage of Tregs in peripheral blood between dogs with multicentric lymphoma and healthy animals, together with the percentage of Tregs in peripheral blood and lymph nodes of dogs with multicentric lymphoma. Twenty-six animals were enrolled in the study: 10 healthy dogs comprised the control group (CG) and 16 dogs with multicentric lymphoma comprised the Lymphoma Group (LG). We observed that dogs in the LG showed a significantly higher Tregs expression in peripheral blood compared to the CG. No significant difference was observed between Tregs expression in lymph nodes and peripheral blood of the LG, however. With these results, it is possible to conclude that multicentric lymphoma is a neoplasm with high Tregs expression, which poses this as a condition of interest when investigating treatments that can suppress Regulatory T cells.(AU)


O linfoma é uma neoplasia maligna caracterizada pela proliferação neoplásica de células originadas de tecido linfoide e corresponde a cerca de 90% das neoplasias hematopoiéticas em cães. Células T reguladoras (Tregs) têm sido alvo de diversas investigações na área da oncologia devido ao potencial de regulação negativa da resposta do sistema imune e à manutenção ativa do mecanismo de imunossupressão tumoral. O objetivo do presente estudo foi a comparação da porcentagem de Tregs no sangue periférico entre cães com linfoma multicêntrico e animais saudáveis e a porcentagem de Tregs no sangue periférico e nos linfonodos de cães com linfoma multicêntrico. Foram utilizados 26 animais: 10 cães saudáveis, como grupo controle (CG), e 16 cães com linfoma multicêntrico, como grupo linfoma (LG). Observou-se maior expressão de Tregs no sangue periférico de cães do LG em comparação ao CG. Entretanto, não foi observada diferença significativa entre as expressões de Treg nos linfonodos e no sangue periférico do LG. Com esses resultados, foi possível concluir que o linfoma multicêntrico apresenta alta expressão de Tregs, tornando-se condição interessante para o estudo de tratamentos capazes de suprimir as células T reguladoras.(AU)

Defining selection criteria is important to obtain promising genotypes in a breeding program. The objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for agronomic traits and to perform soybean line selection using selection indices. The experiment was conducted at an experimental area located at Capim Branco farm, belonging to the Federal University of Uberlândia. A total of 37 soybean genotypes were evaluated in randomized complete block design with three replicates, in which twelve agronomic traits were evaluated. Analysis of variance, the Scott-Knott test at the 1 and 5% level of probability, and selection index analyses were performed. There was genetic variability for all agronomic traits, with medium to high levels of genotype determination coefficient. Twelve lines with a total cycle up to 110 days were observed and grouped with the cultivars MSOY 6101 and UFUS 7910. Three lines, UFUS FG 03, UFUS FG 20, and UFUS FG 31, were highlighted regarding grain yield with higher values than the national average of 3072 kg/ha. The direct selection enabled the highest trait individual gains. The Williams (1962) index and the Smith (1936) and Hazel (1943) index presented the highest selection gain for the grain yield character. The genotype-ideotype distance index and the index of the sum of ranks of Mulamba and Mock (1978) presented higher values of total selection gain. The lines UFUS FG 12, UFUS FG 14, UFUS FG 18, UFUS FG 25, and UFUS FG 31 were distinguished as superior genotypes by direct selection methods and selection indexes.
