Microbiologically contaminated water is a significant source of infections in humans and animals, with Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PSA) being particularly concerning due to its ability to thrive in water environments and its resistance to many disinfectants. Therefore, this study investigates the adhesion potential of PSA strains on various materials used in mineral water extraction wells, focusing on hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties. Mineral water samples were collected from three wells (P-01, P-07, and P-08) within the Guarani Aquifer System and Fractured Aquifer System (SAF) in Brazil. The physicochemical properties of the water, including concentrations of Sr (strontium), Fe (iron), Si (silicon), SO42- (sulfate ions), Cl- (chloride ions), and ORP (oxidation-reduction potential), were analyzed. Results indicated higher PSA adhesion on hydrophobic materials, particularly high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and geomechanically plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Multiple correlation analyses revealed positive correlations between PSA adhesion on hydrophilic materials and Sr, Fe, Si, SO42-, and Cl- concentrations. Conversely, ORP negatively correlated with bacterial adhesion on PVC surfaces, suggesting higher ORP values reduced PSA attachment. These findings highlight the importance of water composition and material properties in influencing bacterial adhesion and potential biofilm formation in mineral water extraction systems.

Anemia is highly prevalent globally, especially in young children in low-income countries, where it often overlaps with a high burden of diarrheal disease. Distribution of iron interventions (as supplements or iron-containing multiple micronutrient powders, MNPs) is a key anemia reduction strategy. Small studies in Africa indicate iron may reprofile the gut microbiome towards pathogenic species. We seek to evaluate the safety of iron and MNPs based on their effects on diversity, composition, and function of the gut microbiome in children in rural Bangladesh as part of a large placebo-controlled randomized controlled trial of iron or MNPs given for 3 months (ACTRN12617000660381). In 923 infants, we evaluate the microbiome before, immediately following, and nine months after interventions, using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and shotgun metagenomics in a subset. We identify no increase in diarrhea with either treatment. In our primary analysis, neither iron nor MNPs alter gut microbiome diversity or composition. However, when not adjusting for multiple comparisons, compared to placebo, children receiving iron and MNPs exhibit reductions in commensal species (e.g., Bifidobacterium, Lactobacillus) and increases in potential pathogens, including Clostridium. These increases are most evident in children with baseline iron repletion and are further supported by trend-based statistical analyses.

BACKGROUND: Interdisciplinary long-term health surveillance identifies opportunities to mitigate CDH-related multisystem morbidity, particularly in patients with neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI). However, no studies to date have assessed the impact of these morbidities on the patient/family. Our aim was to describe the clinical trajectory of patients with CDH and NDI (CDH-NDI), and to explore the lived experience and satisfaction of families with existing support resources. METHODS: A multi-phase explanatory study (REB 2023-8964) was conducted. Phase 1: Review of clinical data for CDH-NDI patients attending a longitudinal follow-up clinic; Phase 2: Satisfaction assessment of CDH-NDI families with existing hospital resources. Standard statistical analyses were performed for Phases 1 and 2, respectively. RESULTS: Of 91 patients included, 27 had NDI, stratified into mild (n = 2), moderate (n = 7), and severe (n = 18) cohorts. Ventilation (16 vs. 8; p < 0.001), ICU (34 vs. 18; p < 0.001) and hospital (41 vs. 22; p < 0.001) days were significantly longer in the severe cohort. The severe cohort required significantly more unscheduled visits, particularly in the first four years of life (p < 0.05). Despite high family satisfaction with existing resources, team communication during ICU-ward transfers could be improved. Parents also desired to share experiences with other CDH families. CONCLUSION: CDH children with NDI require increased support, particularly in the first four years of life. While clinic satisfaction is high, improvement of team communication and access to support resources remain high priorities for parents. Dogs are important reservoir hosts for Leishmania infantum, the causative agent of visceral leishmaniasis. The complement system, as part of the innate immune defense, is responsible for initiating the fight against pathogens that may invade an organism. A failure of the complement to combat L. infantum may explain, at least in part, why a mammal species is more or less susceptible to visceral leishmaniasis. The objective of this study was to compare the effectiveness of human and dog complement systems against L. infantum parasites. The results showed that dog serum was less effective than human serum at killing promastigote and amastigote-like forms. We also compared the efficiency of human and canine sera in classic and alternative hemolytic assays, as well as the serum efficiency of non-infected and Leishmania-infected dogs. Serum from dogs was less hemolytic than human serum in both pathways tested, but the efficiency of serum from infected dogs was higher than that of non-infected dogs. When testing C3b deposition assays on parasite surfaces, serum from infected dogs was more effective against amastigote-like forms than serum from non-infected dogs. However, both types of serum proved equally effective on promastigotes, while serum from infected dogs was more effective on amastigote-like forms. Considering the efficiency of the complement system, our results indicate that dogs are more susceptible to visceral leishmaniasis than humans are.

The genus Corynebacterium is the largest genera among corynebacteria and has a range of species widely spread in ecological niches, some with epidemic potential and capable of causing fatal diseases. In recent years, due to the reclassifications and discoveries of new potentially toxin-producing species, microbiological identification and epidemiological control have been compromised, becoming possible only with sequencing techniques. Two bacterial strains isolated from a cat were identified by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry as Corynebacterium diphtheriae and sent to the collaborating center of the Brazilian Ministry of Health for molecular identification and determination of toxigenicity potential, which were initially performed by multiplex PCR method. In addition, the antimicrobial susceptibility profile was determined according to BrCAST. Finally, for the final identification at the species level and effective epidemiological monitoring, the sequencing of the 16S rRNA and rpoB housekeeping genes was carried out. The isolates were identified as nontoxigenic C. diphtheriae strains by mPCR. Both strains were found susceptible to all antimicrobial agents. Although the identification at the species level was not possible through similarity analysis of  S rRNA and rpoB housekeeping genes, the phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolates belonged to the species Corynebacterium rouxii with a high value of reliability. This is the first report of the isolation of C. rouxii in Latin America. Molecular identification, whether by the MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry or PCR techniques, does not discriminate C. rouxii from C. diphtheriae, requiring gene sequencing and phylogenetic analysis for correct identification at the species level.

Tropical fruit juices produced from native fruits have been widely marketed by small agribusinesses in the Brazilian semiarid region, necessitating a deeper understanding of the impact of preservation methods on quality parameters. This study aimed to prepare myrtle (Eugenia gracillima Kiaersk.) tropical juice and investigate the effects of physical preservation (90 °C for 60 s) and chemical preservation (potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate) methods. Tropical juice formulations were evaluated after preparation and every 15 days during 60 days of storage in high-density polyethylene bottles at room temperature (25 ± 2 °C). Microbiological parameters, optical microscopy, physicochemical and bioactive parameters, antioxidant capacity, and color parameters were determined. Heat-treated tropical juice showed low counts of all microbiological parameters, but optical microscopy revealed the presence of filamentous fungi after 60 days of storage. Combined use of potassium sorbate and sodium benzoate effectively prevented the development of total yeasts and molds up to 28 days of storage. Bioactive compounds in myrtle pulp contribute to storage stability, mainly total phenolics, estimated at 855.86 mg gallic acid equivalents 100 g-1. The results suggest that it is possible to harness the economic and agroindustrial potential of E. gracillima Kiaersk. fruits for the production of tropical juices, but it is recommended that other technologies be explored, such as aseptic processing or the combined use of physical and chemical methods.

The genus Bothrops are considered Category 1 of medical importance by the World Health Organization, responsible for approximately 85 % of snakebites occurring throughout Brazil. Main factors determining snake venom variations can be genetics, diet, gender, geographic distribution, age, or even seasonality. In this study, we compared the composition of protein profile, biochemical activities, and immunorecognition of toxins present in the venom of eight adults of Bothrops species (B. alternatus, B. atrox, B. jararaca, B. jararacussu, B. leucurus, B. moojeni, B. neuwiedi and B. pauloensis). The following methods were used to analyze the venoms: protein dosage; electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel containing SDS; High Performance Liquid Chromatography - Reverse Phase; enzymatic activities, western blotting and Enzyme Linked Immuno Sorbent Assay. The results show inter and intraspecific differences in the electrophoretic profile. LAAO and PLA2 activities, in general, were higher in males than females and proteolytic activity was higher in females than males. The bothropic antivenom produced by Instituto Butantan recognized most of the protein bands in all Bothrops species analyzed, with only the regions between 37 and 25 kDa presenting lower intensity. A notable variability in the chromatograms was observed. Bothrops venom demonstrated inter-intraspecific disparities in protein composition and biochemical activity.

Introduction: Dengue is a public health challenge worldwide. Brazil registered about 70% of cases in Latin America in 2023; in 2024, the country is experiencing an unprecedented increase in the number of infected individuals. By May 2024, more than 4 million people were infected. Our goal was to: (1) determine the epidemiology of dengue cases and their spatiotemporal distribution and (2) carry out a survey of the storm drains and through a geospatial analysis to determine their possible correlation with cases of dengue in Presidente Prudente, São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Cases and information on the habitat of mosquito in the storm drain underground drainage system from 2020 to 2021 were obtained from public agencies. Larvae, pupae, and Ae. aegypti were identified according to species and described in taxonomic keys. Kernel density maps were constructed. Results: From 1996 to 2023, the prevalence of cases peaked in 2016 and 2019, and in 2023 reached alarming levels, and the city was considered hyperendemic. In 2021, 2,609 cases were registered with 2 clusters of high density. Of 5,492 storm drains analyzed, 18.0% were found to have water, 9.0% had larvae or pupae of Aedes aegypti and 91.0% were classified as dirty or damaged. A direct correlation between the kernel layer of cases in 2021 with the kernel layer of storm drains containing water (r = 0.651) and larvae and pupae (r = 0.576) was found, suggesting that storm drains are risk factors and have an impact on the maintenance of dengue endemicity. The high number of damaged units found demonstrated the lack of storm drain management, compromising the urban drainage system and possibly contributing to dengue outbreaks. Conclusion: Policymakers may use these findings to improve existing dengue control strategies focusing on the control of storm drains and increase local and global perspectives on reducing dengue outbreaks.

Objectives: Chagas disease (CD) is an infectious disease that predominantly affects poor and vulnerable populations. The last estimate conducted by the World Health Organization in Latin America regarding the prevalence of CD occurred more than 10 years ago. However, there is a scarcity of data assessing the magnitude of CD in populations residing in considered high-risk regions. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the seroprevalence of CD in an endemic region in Northern Minas Gerais through serologic screening. Methods: This is a prevalence study conducted in the municipalities of Catuti, Mato Verde, Mirabela, Montes Azul, and São Francisco, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collection occurred between December 2021 and December 2022, involving a questionnaire with closed-ended questions. The variables analyzed included serologic test results, stratified age groups, health indicators, and housing conditions. Results: Of the 2978 participants, 272 individuals (9.1%) tested positive for CD serology. In the age group of 4 to 14 years, 15 to 49 years, and 50 years or older, the prevalence of positive serology was 0.8% (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.16-1.43), 5.5% (95% CI 4.20-6.83), and 18.8% (95% CI 16.48-21.11), respectively. Among the participating municipalities, Mato Verde had the highest prevalence of positive serology for CD (17%). For participants aged 4 to 14 years with positive serology for CD, first-degree relatives were invited to undergo serologic testing. It was possible to collect samples from relatives of all participants in this age group. However, none of the relatives tested positive. Conclusion: This study identified a 9.1% prevalence of individuals affected by CD who were unaware of their condition. In addition, having infected children in the 4 to 14 age group with mothers with negative serology would rule out congenital transmission of the disease.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the photothermal effects of a subdermal high-power diode laser at a wavelength (λ) of 1470 nm in the skin of rats. Twenty male Wistar rats were used, divided into 2 groups: placebo laser (PL) and active laser (AL). A high-power diode laser equipment was applied to 5 subdermal vectors on the animal's back region. The results demonstrated that active laser animals showed a better arrangement of collagen fiber bands, an increase in the thickness of the dermis and the number of vessels. Furthermore, animals treated with active laser showed an increased immunoexpression of TGF-ß and VEGF compared to the placebo. The present work demonstrated that the subdermal high-power diode laser increases the vascularization and the expression of factors that enhance skin regeneration and may be promising resource in the esthetic and dermatology clinical treatment of skin rejuvenation.

In recent years, mostly spanning the past decade, the concept of immunometabolism has ushered with a novel perspective on carcinogenesis, tumor progression, and tumor response to therapy. It has become clear that the metabolic state of immune cells plays a significant role in shaping their antitumor or protumor activities within the cancer microenvironment. Consequently, the examination of tumor metabolic heterogeneity, including an exploration of immunometabolism, proves indispensable for enhancing prognostic tools and advancing the quest for personalized treatments. Here we have delved into how metabolic reprogramming profoundly influences the acquisition and maintenance of functional states, spanning from effector and cytotoxic profiles to regulatory and immunosuppressive phenotypes in both innate and adaptive immunity. These alterations wield considerable influence over tumor evolution and affect the outcome of cancer. Furthermore, we explore some of the cellular signaling mechanisms that underpin the metabolic and phenotypic flexibility of immune cells in response to external stimuli.

Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) that has gained recent popularity in its effective management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity. Minimal evidence has reported the link between Semaglutide use and acute pancreatitis. In this case report, we discuss the case of a 36-year-old female presenting to the Emergency Department with sudden-onset epigastric pain, subsequently diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Moreover, she had recently started subcutaneous semaglutide injections for weight loss, which she had procured from one of her acquaintances without seeking medical advice. Semaglutide was thus stopped and her lipase levels normalized with significant improvement of her symptoms, making semaglutide the likely causative factor for her acute pancreatitis. Given the increased use of GLP-1RA, we aim to increase awareness among patients taking this medication whether prescribed or not and increase clinician awareness when prescribing this medication.

Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), which is restricted to the mucosa (stage Ta, carcinoma in situ (CIS)) or submucosa (stage T1), comprises 75% of bladder cancer diagnoses. Intravesical bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) therapy is the standard-of-care initial treatment for high-risk NMIBC; however, a significant proportion of patients have BCG-unresponsive disease. While radical cystectomy is a definitive treatment in this setting, not all patients are willing or able to undergo this complex procedure associated with morbidity, mortality, and decreased quality of life. Bladder-preserving options for patients with BCG-unresponsive NMIBC represent an unmet need in this patient population. Nadofaragene firadenovec-vncg (Adstiladrin) is a nonreplicating adenoviral vector-based gene therapy indicated for the treatment of adult patients with high-risk BCG-unresponsive NMIBC with CIS with or without papillary tumors. The antitumor efficacy of nadofaragene firadenovec is driven by its local delivery of copies of the gene encoding for interferon alpha-2b (IFNα-2b) to urothelial cells. In the phase III CS-003 study, over half of participants with CIS exhibited a complete response by month 3 after instillation, with minimal serious adverse events. The favorable efficacy and safety profile, clinical utility, novel mechanism of action, and every 3-month dosing schedule give nadofaragene firadenovec a unique role in the treatment of high-risk BCG-unresponsive NMIBC. This review provides a practical approach to the effective clinical use of nadofaragene firadenovec regarding pre-instillation visit arrangements, storage, handling, instillation procedures, and post-instillation procedures. Implementation of these recommendations will ensure efficient real-world use of nadofaragene firadenovec and the development of useful training materials and relevant standard operating procedures to help support a clinic's treatment for patients with BCG-unresponsive NMIBC with CIS. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the diagnostic performance of ClinCheck, Dolphin Imaging orthodontic software, and 3D Slicer for the analysis of Bolton discrepancy (BD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-five pairs of early-stage digital models of patients treated with Invisalign were printed to measure the BD by manual method with a digital caliper (gold standard). The discrepancy values calculated by ClinCheck were obtained. In addition, the sample STL files were measured using Dolphin Imaging and 3D Slicer software to obtain BD values. To assess reliability, precision, and accuracy of the methods, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs), Dahlberg's formula, paired t-tests, and the Bland-Altman method were used, respectively. Repeated-measures analysis of variance with Bonferroni post hoc test was used to assess the difference between groups. RESULTS: The three methods showed reliable measurements (ICC ≥ 0.7), with the values of anterior Bolton slightly higher than overall Bolton. Measurements for the anterior Bolton showed higher precision (Dahlberg's formula 0.65, 0.70, and 0.55) than those for the overall Bolton. For anterior Bolton, only the measurements obtained by ClinCheck and Dolphin Imaging were accurate (P > .05, no proportion bias), while for overall Bolton, all groups had a significant difference. The Bland-Altman plots demonstrated no consistency for anterior Bolton measurements when 3D Slicer was used and for the overall Bolton. CONCLUSIONS: ClinCheck and Dolphin Imaging showed accuracy to quantify anterior BD. For the overall Bolton measurements, ClinCheck showed a statistical difference from the manual assessment but without relevant clinical significance.

OBJECTIVE: This network meta-analysis [NMA] investigated the efficacy of adjunctive use of subgingivally delivered antimicrobials to non-surgical periodontal therapy [NSPT] in the glycemic control and periodontal pocket depth (PPD) reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS: Seven databases, grey literature, and registry platforms were searched up to February 2024 to identify randomized clinical trials (RCT) fulfilling the eligibility criteria. The risk of bias was assessed through Cochrane's tool (RoB 2). Two frequentist NMA were performed using a random-effects model to calculate mean differences (MD) as an effect measure and to quantitatively evaluate the glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and PPD. The certainty of evidence was assessed through the GRADE approach in a partially contextualized framework for interpreting results. Ten RCTs were included. RESULTS: In total, 261 patients were treated with eight different local antimicrobials adjuvants to NSPT (azithromycin gel, clarithromycin gel, tetracycline fiber or ointment, chlorhexidine gel, doxycycline nanospheres, minocycline gel, and satranidazole gel), while 249 patients received NSPT alone or associated to placebo. Considering PPD reduction (8 included studies), the best results were found after six months for satranidazole gel (MD -2.64mm; 95%CI -3.56, -1.72; moderate evidence certainty). For HbA1c control (7 included studies), doxycycline gel (MD - 0.80%; 95%CI -1.70, 0.10), chlorhexidine gel (MD -0.68%; 95%CI -1.34, -0.02), and tetracycline fiber (MD -0.62%; 95%CI -0.85, -0.39) showed promising results after three months (low evidence certainty). CONCLUSION: The adjunctive use of satranidazole gel probably reduces PPD after a 6-month follow-up, while doxycycline gel, chlorhexidine gel, and tetracycline fiber may decrease HbA1c values in patients with T2D and periodontitis treated with NSPT after a 3-month follow up.

This study aimed to assess the impact of adaptation of ten strains of O157:H7 and non-O157 Escherichia coli to low pH (acid shock or slow acidification) and the effects of this exposure or not on the resistance of E. coli strains to UV radiation in orange juice (pH 3.5). The acid-shocked cells were obtained through culture in tryptic soy broth (TSB) with a final pH of 4.8, which was adjusted by hydrochloric, lactic, or citric acid and subsequently inoculated in orange juice at 4 °C for 30 days. No significant differences (p > 0.05) in survival in orange juice were observed between the serotypes O157:H7 and non-O157:H7 for acid-shocked experiments. After slow acidification, where the cells were cultured in TSB supplemented with glucose 1% (TSB + G), a significant increase (p < 0.05) in survival was observed for all strains evaluated. The D-values (radiation dose (J/cm2) necessary to decrease the microbial population by 90%) were determined as the inverse of the slopes of the regressions (k) obtained by plotting log (N/N0). The results show that among the strains tested, E. coli O157:H7 (303/00) and O26:H11 were the most resistant and sensitive strains, respectively. According to our results, the method of acid adaptation contributes to increasing the UV resistance for most of the strains tested.

This study aimed to assess the bacterial microbiota involved in the spoilage of pacu (Piaractus mesopotamics), patinga (female Piaractus mesopotamics x male Piaractus brachypomus), and tambacu (female Colossoma macropomum × male Piaractus mesopotamics) during ice and frozen storage. Changes in the microbiota of three fish species (N = 22) during storage were studied through 16S rRNA amplicon-based sequencing and correlated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and metabolites assessed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Storage conditions (time and temperature) affected the microbiota diversity in all fish samples. Fish microbiota comprised mainly of Pseudomonas sp., Brochothrix sp., Acinetobacter sp., Bacillus sp., Lactiplantibacillus sp., Kocuria sp., and Enterococcus sp. The relative abundance of Kocuria, P. fragi, L. plantarum, Enterococcus, and Acinetobacter was positively correlated with the metabolic pathways of ether lipid metabolism while B. thermosphacta and P. fragi were correlated with metabolic pathways involved in amino acid metabolism. P. fragi was the most prevalent spoilage bacteria in both storage conditions (ice and frozen), followed by B. thermosphacta. Moreover, the relative abundance of identified Bacillus strains in fish samples stored in ice was positively correlated with the production of VOCs (1-hexanol, nonanal, octenol, and 2-ethyl-1-hexanol) associated with off-flavors. 1H NMR analysis confirmed that amino acids, acetic acid, and ATP degradation products increase over (ice) storage, and therefore considered chemical spoilage index of fish fillets.

RESUMEN

Functional foods, and specifically probiotics, are important products present in retail worldwide. Probiotics comprise "live microorganisms that, when administered in adequate amounts, can confer a health benefit on the host". This study aimed to investigate the effect of culture on probiotic foods social representation. A total of 818 consumers from seven countries (Argentina, Brazil, Honduras, Mauritius, Mexico, Peru, and Slovenia) participated in the study. A free word association task was performed with the inductor term "probiotic food," followed by lemmatization, categorization, and prototypical analysis of the social representation. The results indicated that the term health was common in all countries studied, as well as other positive aspects such as benefits, well-being, and functional foods. This study helped to shed light and better understand the role of culture in the social representation of probiotics.

INTRODUCTION: Understand the cause of gastrointestinal symptoms compatible with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in remission is challenging. Those patients are known to show more anxiety, that may influence the course of IBD. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of IBS-like symptoms and anxiety by a questionnaire, and his association with subclinical inflammation using calprotectin levels (FC), Mayo Endoscopic Score (MES) and Geboes score (GS) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) in clinical remission. METHODS: Recruitment occurred between January 2020 and December 2021 and included UC patients scheduled for colonoscopy. Clinical remission was defined by stool frequency, ulcerative colitis activity index and serum C-reactive protein. IBS diagnosis was evaluated by Roma IV criteria. RESULTS: We included 106 patients (51.9% women; mean age 51 years ±14.8). Rome IV criteria were fulfilled by 29 patients (27.4%). In the UC+IBS group more individuals had calprotectin >100mg/Kg (58.6% vs 23.4%, P=0.001), MES≥1 (37.9% vs 16.9%, P=0.023) and GS>2 (69.0% vs 29.9%, P=0.000). Thirty-three patients reported anxiety (31.3%). UC+IBS group also showed higher anxiety rates (51.7% vs 23.4, P=0.006). In multivariate logistic regression analyses: FC>100mg/Kg, histological activity, and higher anxiety were associated with IBS-like symptoms. CONCLUSION: IBS-like symptoms are common in UC patients considered in clinical remission and relates with anxiety and subclinical inflammation. Our findings underscore the necessity for a comprehensive strategy for these patients, targeting not only inflammation but also psychological conditions.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has been the subject of study by several researchers worldwide since 2020; however, there are points to be clarified. This study aimed to analyze the clinical and nutritional aspects of hospitalized cancer and non-cancer pediatric patients and the association with COVID-19 outcomes. This is a cohort study of hospitalized children and adolescents with a laboratory diagnosis of COVID-19. Patients were assessed according to the presence or absence of previous oncological diseases. Sociodemographic, clinical and nutritional data were investigated during the course of the infection. Outcomes included Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission, longer length of stay (14 days), criticality, and death. Oncological disease was found in 16 (19.3%) patients, most of whom had B-type acute lymphoid leukemia. In Poisson regression, adjusted for age and comorbidity, an association was found between oncological disease and length of stay ≥14 days (RR 4.30; 95% CI 1.46 - 15.6; p = 0.013), COVID-19 criticality (RR 3.82; 95% CI 1.66 - 30.9; p = 0.010) and death (RR 3.42; 95% CI 0.94 - 9.96; p = 0.035). The research revealed that cancer patients had longer hospital stays, were more likely to have the severe form of COVID-19, and had a 3.42 times greater risk of dying.
