RESUMEN

The Vietnamese fauna of the genus Scolopocryptops Newport, 1844 was reviewed based on recently collected specimens and material from Zoological Museum of the Moscow Lomonosov State University (ZMMU) and Naturhistorisches Museum Wien (NHMW). As a result of study of 164 specimens from 13 sampling regions, four species have been recognized, of which S. rubiginosus C.L. Koch, 1878 and S. spinicaudus Wood, 1862 already reported from Vietnam, S. hoanglieni described as n. sp., and S. capillipedatus (Takakuwa, 1938) for the first time recorded for this country. S. broelemanni esulcata Attems, 1938 was redescribed and confirmed as a valid. The COI fragments were obtained for the above mentioned species and the K2P genetic divergence between Vietnamese Scolopocryptops species was preliminarily estimated. New data on intraspecific variations of spiracle number in Scolopocryptops, an identification key for East Asian species and the general list of species of Scolopocryptops are provided.

RESUMEN

Cormocephalus (C.) guildingii Newport, 1845one of the oldest names in this genusis described in detail for the first time, based on material from Western Mexico, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic; the range of this species is much expanded. Synonymy of C. impressus Porat, 1876 under C. guildingii is analyzed and confirmed. Relations between the latter and both C. ungulatus (Meinert, 1886) and C. andinus (Kraepelin, 1903) are analysed in detail. Both C. mundus Chamberlin, 1955 and C. (Cupipes) tingonus Chamberlin, 1957 are junior synonyms of C. ungulatus (Meinert, 1886). Cormocephalus mediosulcatus Attems, 1928 is suggested to be transferred to the genus Scolopendropsis as S. thayeri (Meinert, 1886) syn. nov. A new subclade (designated as the guildingii-subgroup) is established within the Neotropical clade of the genus Cormocephalus. It includes most Neotropical representatives of the gervaisianus species-group (sensu Schileyko Stagl 2004) united by nine diagnostic synapomorphies. Relations within the new subclade are analysed and its diagnosis is given.

RESUMEN

The extant genera and subgenera of the order Scolopendromorpha are critically reviewed and provided with updated diagnoses and a new identification key; the most recent revisions of scolopendromorph genera are concisely summarised. Rhoda Meinert, 1886 and Cryptops (Chromatanops) Verhoeff, 1906 are suggested to be a junior synonyms of Scolopendropsis Brandt, 1841 and Cryptops (Cryptops) Leach, 1814, respectively. The subgeneric status is formally fixed for Cryptops (Paracryptops) Pocock, 1891 and Cormocephalus (Campylostigmus) Ribaut, 1923; the taxonomic status of the former genus Kanparka Waldock Edgecombe, 2012 is discussed. As a result of synonymies, the number of scolopendromorph genera and subgenera is currently 37. The formal status of the former tribes Scolopendrini Leach, 1814, Asanadini Verhoeff, 1907 and Arrhabdotini Attems, 1930 is briefly discussed; the presence of the sexual dimorphism among the taxa of generic level is overviewed.

RESUMEN

The paper provides descriptions of three scolopendromorph centipede species collected in Saint Barthélemy Island. Two of them, Newportia heteropoda Chamberlin, 1918 and Cormocephalus impressus Porat, 1876 are redescribed and their systematic position is discussed. The taxonomic status of Newportia cubana Chamberlin, 1915 is revised, this nominal taxon being treated as the subspecies N. longitarsis cubana stat. nov. C. guildingii Newport, 1845 is confirmed as a valid species of which C. bonaerius Attems, 1928 is considered as a junior synonym. An identification key to the Scolopendromorpha of the island is presented.

RESUMEN

The centipede fauna of the second largest island in the world, New Guinea, and its adjacent islands, is poorly known, with most information deriving from the first half of the 20th century. Here we present new data on the order Scolopendromorpha based on material collected in the area in the last 40 years, mainly by Bulgarian and Latvian zoologists. The collections comprise eleven species of six genera and three families. The diagnosis of Cryptops (Trigonocryptops) is emended in the light of the recent findings. The old and doubtful record of Scolopendra multidens Newport, 1844 from New Guinea is referred to S. subspinipes Leach, 1815 and the species is here excluded from the present day list of New Guinean scolopendromorphs. Cryptops nepalensis Lewis, 1999 is here recorded from New Guinea for the first time. An annotated list and an identification key to the scolopendromorphs of the studied region are presented.

RESUMEN

The descriptions of twelve Venezuelan Scolopendromorpha, a list of species, identification key and detailed list of localities are presented. Cryptops (C.) venezuelae Chamberlin, 1939, known only from the holotype has been re-described and Scolopendra conjungens Muralewicz, 1913 reduced to a junior synonym of Scolopendra angulata Newport, 1844 syn. nov.

RESUMEN

A new species of the centipede genus Newportia, Newportia stoevi sp. n., is described from Rio Encantado Cave, Puerto Rico. It differs from all congeners by having sternites distinctly margined laterally and ultimate legs bearing 4 spinous processes on both prefemur and femur, and 2 on tibia. The value of some terms used in the taxonomy of the genus have been analyzed and an amended identification key to the species of Newportia is provided.
