RESUMEN

Anoplophora glabripennis (Motschulsky), the Asian longhorned beetle, is a serious wood-boring pest of hardwood trees. There have been records that suggest Elaeagnus angustifolia L. (Elaeagnaceae) might be an "attract and kill" tree species for A. glabripennis, i.e., a tree that is attractive to A. glabripennis adults but kills their oviposited eggs. To evaluate the possibility of E. angustifolia as a control measure for A. glabripennis, we carried out a series of behavioral experiments in the laboratory and in the field. Results showed that: (i) A. glabripennis females preferred E. angustifolia branches and leaves over poplar tree species evaluated; the weight of feces from both female and male A. glabripennis feeding on E. angustifolia was significantly higher than from those feeding on Populus deltoides 'Shalinyang' or Populus alba. L. var. pyramidalis; (ii) the average lifespan of females and males feeding on E. angustifolia was significantly longer than those feeding on other host trees evaluated; (iii) in the laboratory oviposition choice experiment, there were significantly fewer egg notch grooves on E. angustifolia than on P. deltoides 'Shalinyang', and those made in E. angustifolia were without eggs; (iv) in the field, the number of egg notch grooves on E. angustifolia was 43.6 ±â€…18.1 per stem, but the number of eggs laid was only 14.4 ±â€…6.4 per stem; and (v) Field surveys of existing mixed forests showed that when E. angustifolia was planted with P. alba. var. pyramidalis or Populus simonii × (Populus pyramidalis + Salix matsudana) 'Poparis' in the mixed forest, both poplar varieties suffered greater infestation than E. angustifolia. Therefore, E. angustifolia is not a suitable attract and kill tree to be extensively planted in mixed forests for control of A. glabripennis.

The biosynthesis of fatty acids constitutes a critical metabolic pathway in bacterial organisms. Prior investigations have highlighted the synthesis of antimicrobial compounds anchored in the benzodioxepin scaffold, noted for their pronounced antibacterial properties. Leveraging this foundational knowledge, the current research endeavors to meticulously engineer and synthesize a series of eight innovative benzodioxepin amide-biphenyl derivatives. This achievement was realized through the sophisticated optimization of synthetic methodologies. The scope of this study extends to a rigorous evaluation of the antibacterial prowess and biocompatibility of the aforementioned novel derivatives. Notably, Compound E4 emerged as a supremely potent antimicrobial agent. A detailed elucidation of the crystalline architecture of Compound E4 was conducted, alongside a thorough docking study to explore its interactions with the FabH enzyme.

LSD1 (histone lysine-specific demethylase 1) has been gradually disclosed to act as an immunomodulator to enhance antitumor immune response. Despite the identification of numerous potent LSD1 inhibitors, there remains a lack of LSD1 inhibitors approved for marketing. Novel LSD1 inhibitors with different mechanisms are therefore needed. Herein, we reported a series of novel quinazoline-based LSD1 inhibitors. Among them, compound Z-1 exhibited the best LSD1 inhibitory activity (IC50 = 0.108 µM). Z-1 also acted as a selective and cellular active as an LSD1 inhibitor. Furthermore, Z-1 promoted response of gastric cancer cells to T-cell killing effect by decreasing PD-L1 expression and further attenuated the PD-1/PD-L1 interaction. In vivo, Z-1 exhibited significant suppression effect on the growth of gastric cancer cells without obvious toxicity. Therefore, Z-1 represents a potential novel immunomodulator that targets LSD1, providing a lead compound with new function mechanism for gastric cancer treatment.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the expression level of small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) SNORA63 in bone marrow of patients with acute leukemia (AL) and its significance in the clinical diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of AL patients. METHODS: Bone marrow samples of 53 newly diagnosed AL patients and 29 healthy subjects in the Affiliated Hospital of Guangdong Medical University from March 2018 to December 2021 were collected. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to detect the relative expression level of SNORA63 in bone marrow mononuclear cells of the two groups. The median expression level of SNORA63 in AL patients was used as the boundary value to divide the patients into SNORA63 high and low expression groups, and the relationship between the expression level of SNORA63 and the clinical characteristics, clinical indicators and prognosis of AL patients was analyzed and discussed. RESULTS: The relative expression level of SNORA63 in AL patients was significantly lower than that in healthy control group [0.3018 (0.0244-1.2792) vs 1.0882 (0.2797-1.9889)] (P < 0.01). The expression level of SNORA63 in AL patients without remission after initial treatment was significantly lower than that in healthy controls and the patients who received complete remission (CR) (P < 0.01), while there was no statistical difference in the expression level of SNORA63 between AML and ALL groups (P >0.05). The abnormal low expression of SNORA63 was closely related to fever, hemorrage, poor prognosis, efficacy, platelets (PLT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), albumin (ALB), and molecular biological abnormalities of AL patients (P < 0.05), but not significantly correlated with sex, age, AL subtype, pallor, fatigue, extramedullary infiltration, white blood cell count (WBC), hemoglobin (HGB), C-reactive protein (CRP), procalcitonin (PCT), fibrinogen (FIB) or chromosome karyotype (P >0.05). Meanwhile, overall survival (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) of AL patients in SNORA63 high-expression group were significantly higher than those in SNORA63 low-expression group (P < 0.05). Univariate Cox regression analysis showed that SNORA63, molecular biological abnormalities, fever, PLT and LDH were the factors influencing OS and EFS in AL patients (P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis indicated that fever, molecular biological abnormalities and LDH were independent factors associated with OS and EFS in AL patients (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: SNORA63 is significantly down-expressed in AL patients, which is a molecular marker of great clinical value for disease monitoring and prognosis evaluation in AL patients.

Bisphenol S (BPS) is extensively utilized in various industries such as plastic manufacturing, food packaging, and electronics. The release of BPS into aquatic environments has been observed to have negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems. Research has shown that exposure to BPS can have adverse effects on the health of aquatic animals. This study aimed to explore the mechanism of oxidative stress and endoplasmic reticulum stress induced in freshwater crayfish (Procambarus clarkii) by exposure to BPS (0 µg/L, 1 µg/L, 10 µg/L, and 100 µg/L) for 14 days. The results showed that BPS exposure resulted in elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA) and severe intestinal histological damage. In addition, oxidative stress can occur in the body by inhibiting the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the expression of related genes. BPS exposure induced a significant increase in the relative mRNA expression levels of inflammatory cytokines (NF-κB and TNF-α) and key unfolded protein response (UPR) related genes (Bip, Ire1, and Xbp1). At the same time, BPS exposure also induced up-regulation of apoptosis genes (Cytc and Casp3), suggesting that UPR and Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathways may play a protective role in the process of apoptosis and oxidative stress. In conclusion, Our findings present the initial evidence that exposure to environmentally relevant levels of BPS can lead to intestinal injury through various pathways, highlighting concerns about the potential harm at a population level from BPS and other bisphenol analogs.

Spin and mass properties provide essential clues in distinguishing the origins of coalescing black holes (BHs). With a dedicated semiparametric population model for the coalescing binary black holes (BBHs), we identify two distinct categories of BHs among the GWTC-3 events, which is favored over the one population scenario by a logarithmic Bayes factor (lnB) of 7.5. One category, with a mass ranging from ∼25M_{⊙} to ∼80M_{⊙}, is distinguished by the high spin magnitudes (∼0.75) and consistent with the hierarchical merger origin. The other category, characterized by low spins, has a sharp mass cutoff at ∼40M_{⊙}, which is natural for the stellar-collapse origin and in particular the pair-instability explosion of massive stars. We infer the local hierarchical merger rate density as 0.46_{-0.24}^{+0.61} Gpc^{-3} yr^{-1}. Additionally, we find that a fraction of the BBHs has a cosine-spin-tilt-angle distribution concentrated preferentially around 1, and the fully isotropic distribution for spin orientation is disfavored by a lnB of -6.3, suggesting that the isolated field evolution channels are contributing to the total population.

Colorectal cancer is frequently diagnosed in advanced stages, highlighting the need for developing approaches for early detection. Liquid biopsy using cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragmentomics is a promising approach, but the clinical application is hindered by complexity and cost. This study aimed to develop an integrated model using cfDNA fragmentomics for accurate, cost-effective early-stage colorectal cancer detection. Plasma cfDNA was extracted and sequenced from a training cohort of 360 participants, including 176 patients with colorectal cancer and 184 healthy controls. An ensemble stacked model comprising five machine learning models was employed to distinguish patients with colorectal cancer from healthy controls using five cfDNA fragmentomic features. The model was validated in an independent cohort of 236 participants (117 patients with colorectal cancer and 119 controls) and a prospective cohort of 242 participants (129 patients with colorectal cancer and 113 controls). The ensemble stacked model showed remarkable discriminatory power between patients with colorectal cancer and controls, outperforming all base models and achieving a high area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.986 in the validation cohort. It reached 94.88% sensitivity and 98% specificity for detecting colorectal cancer in the validation cohort, with sensitivity increasing as the cancer progressed. The model also demonstrated consistently high accuracy in within-run and between-run tests and across various conditions in healthy individuals. In the prospective cohort, it achieved 91.47% sensitivity and 95.58% specificity. This integrated model capitalizes on the multiplex nature of cfDNA fragmentomics to achieve high sensitivity and robustness, offering significant promise for early colorectal cancer detection and broad patient benefit. Significance: The development of a minimally invasive, efficient approach for early colorectal cancer detection using advanced machine learning to analyze cfDNA fragment patterns could expedite diagnosis and improve treatment outcomes for patients. Existing methods for the mass detection of viruses are limited to the registration of small amounts of a viral genome or specific protein markers. In spite of high sensitivity, the applied methods cannot distinguish between virulent viral particles and non-infectious viral particle debris. We report an approach to solve this long-standing challenge using the SARS-CoV-2 virus as an example. We show that wide-field optical microscopy with the state-of-the-art mesoscopic fluorescent labels, formed by a core-shell plasmonic nanoparticle with fluorescent dye molecules in the core-shell that are strongly coupled to the plasmonic nanoparticle, not only rapidly, i.e. in less than 20 minutes after sampling, detects SARS-CoV-2 virions directly in a patient sample without a pre-concentration step, but can also distinguish between infectious and non-infectious virus strains by counting the spikes on the lipid envelope of individual viral particles.

Since the first mouse induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) was derived, the in vitro culture of domestic iPSCs functionally and molecularly comparable with mouse iPSCs has been a challenge. Here, we established dairy goat iPSCs (giPSCs) from goat ear fibroblast cells with mouse iPSCs morphology, the expression of pluripotent markers and differentiation ability in vitro delivered by piggyBac transposon with nine Dox-inducible exogenous reprogramming factors. These reprogramming factors were bOMSK (bovine OCT4, CMYC, SOX2, and KLF4), pNhL (porcine NANOG and human LIN28), hRL (human RARG and LRH1), and SV40 Large T. Notably, AF-giPSCs (induced in activin A and bFGF condition) were capable of differentiation in embryoid bodies in vitro and could contribute to interspecies chimerism in mouse E6.5 embryos in vitro, demonstrating that AF-giPSCs have the developmental capability to generate some embryonic cell lineages. Moreover, Wnt/ß-catenin signaling has an important role in driving goat induced trophoblast-like stem cells (giTLSCs) from Dox-independent giPSCs. This study will support further establishment of the stable giPSC lines without any integration of exogenous genes.

In response to the critical challenges of interfacial impedance and volumetric changes in Li(1+x)AlxTi(2­x)(PO4)3 (LATP)-based lithium metal batteries, an elastomeric lithium-conducting interlayer fabricates from fluorinated hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (F-HNBR) matrix is introduced herein. Owing to the vulcanization, vapor-phase fluorination, and plasticization processes, the lithium-conducting interlayer exhibits a high elasticity of 423%, exceptional fatigue resistance (10 000 compression cycles), superior ionic conductivity of 6.3 × 10-4 S cm-1, and favorable lithiophilicity, rendering it an ideal buffer layer. By integrating the F-HNBR interlayer, the LATP-based lithium symmetric cells demonstrate an extended cycle life of up to 1600 h at 0.1 mA cm-2 and can also endure deep charge/discharge cycles (0.5 mAh cm-2) for the same duration. Furthermore, the corresponding lithium metal full cells achieve 500 cycles at 0.5 C with 98.3% capacity retention and enable a high-mass-loading cathode of 11.1 mg cm-2 to operate at room temperature.

BACKGROUND: Budesonide, capable of reducing vascular permeability, suppressing mucus secretion, and alleviating edema and spasms, is widely used in China for combined infectious disease treatment. This study assesses budesonide's efficacy and safety as an adjunct to azithromycin in pediatric Mycoplasma pneumonia management in China, aiming to establish a strong theoretical foundation for its clinical application. METHODS: We conducted a comprehensive search for qualifying studies across 5 English databases and 4 Chinese databases, covering publications until October 31, 2023. Endpoint analyses were performed using standard software (Stata Corporation, College Station, TX). This study was conducted in compliance with the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses. RESULTS: A total of 24 randomized controlled trials were involved in the current study, including 2034 patients. Our findings indicate that the combination of budesonide with azithromycin for the treatment of pediatric Mycoplasma pneumonia delivers superior therapeutic efficacy (Intravenous: odds ratio [OR], 0.156, P < .001; Sequential: OR, 0.163, P = .001; Oral: OR, 0.139, P < .001), improved pulmonary function (Forced expiratory volume in 1 second: weighted mean differences [WMD], -0.28, P = .001; Peak expiratory flow: WMD, -0.554, P = .002; Forced vital capacity: WMD, -0.321, P < .001), diminished lung inflammation (IL-6: WMD, 4.760, P = .002; c-reactive protein: WMD, 5.520, P < .001; TNF-α: WMD, 9.124, P < .001), reduced duration of fever, faster resolution of cough and rales, all without increasing the occurrence of adverse events. CONCLUSION: The combination of budesonide and azithromycin demonstrates enhanced therapeutic effectiveness, promotes improved pulmonary function, shortens the duration of symptoms, and effectively mitigates the overexpression of inflammatory factors like c-reactive protein, TNF-α, and IL-6, all without an associated increase in adverse reactions in pediatric mycoplasma pneumonia.

PURPOSE: To differentiate mixed epithelial and stromal tumor family (MESTF) of the kidney from predominantly cystic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) using the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based Bosniak classification system version 2019 (v2019). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 36 consecutive patients with MESTF and 77 with predominantly cystic RCC who underwent preoperative renal MRI. One radiologist evaluated and documented the clinical and MRI characteristics (age, sex, laterality, R.E.N.A.L. Nephrometry Score [RNS], surgical approach, the signal intensity on T2-weighted imaging, restricted diffusion and enhancement features in corticomedullary phase). Blinded to clinical and pathological information, another two radiologists independently evaluated Bosniak category of all masses. Interobserver agreement based on Bosniak classification system v2019 was measured by the weighted Cohen/Conger's Kappa coefficient. Furthermore, predominantly cystic RCCs and MESTFs were divided into low (categories I, II, and IIF) and high-class (categories III, and IV) tumors. The independent sample t test (Mann-Whitney U test) or Pearson Chi-square test (Fisher's exact probability test) was utilized to compare clinical and imaging characteristics between MESTFs and predominantly cystic RCCs. The performance of the Bosniak classification system v2019 in distinguishing MESTF from predominantly cystic RCC was investigated via receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. RESULTS: MESTF and predominantly cystic RCC groups significantly differed in terms of age, lesion size, RNS, restricted diffusion, and obvious enhancement in corticomedullary phase, but not sex, laterality, surgical approach, and the signal intensity on T2WI. Interobserver agreement was substantially based on the Bosniak classification system v2019. There were 24 low-class tumors and 12 high-class tumors in the MESTF group. Meanwhile, 13 low-class tumors and 64 high-class tumors were observed in the predominantly cystic RCC group. The distribution of low- or high-class tumors significantly differed between the MESTF and predominantly cystic RCC groups. Bosniak classification system v2019 had excellent discrimination (cutoff value = category III), and an area under curve value was 0.81; accuracy, 80.5%; sensitivity, 87.0%; and specificity, 66.7%. CONCLUSION: The MRI-based Bosniak classification system v2019 can effectively distinguish MESTF from predominantly cystic RCC if category III was used as a cutoff reference.

Grime's competitive, stress-tolerant, ruderal (CSR) theory predicts a shift in plant communities from ruderal to stress-tolerant strategies during secondary succession. However, this fundamental tenet lacks empirical validation using long-term continuous successional data. Utilizing a 60-year longitudinal data of old-field succession, we investigated the community-level dynamics of plant strategies over time. Our findings reveal that while plant communities generally transitioned from ruderal to stress-tolerant strategies during succession, initial abandonment conditions crucially shaped early successional strategies, leading to varied strategy trajectories across different fields. Furthermore, we found a notable divergence in the CSR strategies of alien and native species over succession. Initially, alien and native species exhibited similar ruderal strategies, but in later stages, alien species exhibited higher ruderal and lower stress tolerance compared to native species. Overall, our findings underscore the applicability of Grime's predictions regarding temporal shifts in CSR strategies depending on both initial community conditions and species origin.

RESUMEN

In real terrain and dynamic obstacle scenarios, the complexity of the 3D UAV path planning problem greatly increases. Thus, to procure the optimal flight path for UAVs in such scenarios, an augmented Artificial Gorilla Troops Optimizer, denoted as OQMGTO, is proposed. The proposed OQMGTO algorithm introduces three strategies: combination mutation, quadratic interpolation, and random opposition-based learning, aiming to enhance the ability to timely escape from local optimal path areas and rapidly converge to the global optimal path. Given the flight distance, smoothness, terrain collision, and other five realistic factors of UAVs, specific constraint conditions are proposed to address complex scenarios, aiming to construct a path planning model. By optimizing this model, OQMGTO algorithm solves the path planning problem in complex scenarios. The extensive validation of OQMGTO algorithm on CEC2017 test suite enhances its credibility as a powerful optimization tool. Comparison experiments are conducted in simulated terrain scenarios, including six multi-obstacle terrain scenarios and three dynamic obstacle scenarios. The experimental findings validate OOMGTO algorithm can assist UAV in searching for excellent flight paths, featuring high safety and reliability characteristics, which confirms the superiority of OOMGTO algorithm for path planning in simulated terrain scenarios. Furthermore, in four flight missions carried out in real terrains, OQMGTO algorithm demonstrates superior search performance, planning smooth trajectories without mountain collision.

The pumpkin leaf was extracted by the decoction method, and it was used as an eco-friendly, nontoxic inhibitor of copper in 0.5 M H2SO4 corrosion media. To evaluate the composition and protective capacity of the pumpkin leaf extract, Fourier infrared spectroscopy, electrochemical testing, XPS, AFM, and SEM were employed. The results showed that the pumpkin leaf extract (PLE) is an effective cathode corrosion inhibitor, exhibiting exceptional protection for copper within a specific temperature range. The corrosion inhibition efficiency of the PLE against copper reached 89.98% when the concentration of the PLE reached 800 mg/L. Furthermore, when the temperature and soaking time increased, the corrosion protection efficiency of 800 mg/L PLE on copper consistently remained above 85%. Analysis of the morphology also indicated that the PLE possesses equally effective protection for copper at different temperatures. Furthermore, XPS analysis reveals that the PLE molecules are indeed adsorbed to form an adsorption film, which is consistent with Langmuir monolayer adsorption. Molecular dynamics simulations and quantum chemical calculations were conducted on the main components of the PLE.

Introduction: During the global COVID-19 pandemic, densely populated megacities engaged in active international exchanges have faced the most severe impacts from both the disease and the associated infodemic. This study examines the factors influencing public participation behavior on government microblogs in these megacities during the pandemic. It guides megacities in disseminating epidemic information, promoting knowledge on epidemic prevention, managing public opinion, and addressing related matters. Methods: Utilizing the elaboration likelihood model's central and peripheral routes, drawing on an empirical analysis of 6,677 epidemic-related microblogs from seven Chinese megacities, this study analyses the influence mechanisms influencing public participation behavior and reveals the regulatory role of confirmed case numbers. Meanwhile,a qualitative comparative analysis examines and discusses diferent confgurations of ixn fuential factors. Results: The study reveals that microblog content richness demonstrates a U-shaped impact on public participation behavior. Conversely, content interaction, content length, and the number of fans positively impact participation, while update frequency has a negative impact. Additionally, the number of new confrmed cases positively regulates the impact of microblog content and publisher characteristics on public participation behavior. Public participation behavior also varies based on publishing time and content semantic features. This study further revealed the different confgurations of influential factors by QCA method. Conclusion: This study reveals the impact mechanism of the microblog content and publisher characteristics on public participation behavior. It also demonstrates the regulatory role of newly confrmed cases in the way content and publishers' characteristics influence public participation behavior. This study is of great significance for the operation of government microblogs, the release of emergency information, and the promotion of public participation.

To improve the mess-specific activity of Co supported on zeolite catalysts in Fischer-Tropsch (FT) synthesis, the Co-MCM-22 catalyst was prepared by simply grinding the MCM-22 with nanosized Co3O4 prefabricated by the thermal decomposition of the Co(II)-glycine complex. It is found that this novel strategy is effective for improving the mess-specific activity of Co catalysts in FT synthesis compared to the impregnation method. Moreover, the ion exchange and calcination sequence of MCM-22 has a significant influence on the dispersion, particle size distribution, and reduction degree of Co. The Co-MCM-22 prepared by the physical grinding of prefabricated Co3O4 and H+-type MCM-22 without a further calcination process exhibits a moderate interaction between Co3O4 and MCM-22, which results in the higher reduction degree, higher dispersion, and higher mess-specific activity of Co. Thus, the newly developed method is more controllable and promising for the synthesis of metal-supported catalysts.

The concentrations, spatial-temporal distribution, and influencing factors of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the sediments of Poyang Lake were studied, and a quantitative source analysis of PAHs in different areas of the lake was conducted. PAHs were widespread within the sediments. The concentrations of ∑16PAHs in the surface sediments of all sites ranged from 203 to 2 318 µg·kg-1. The concentrations of PAHs in the surface sediments of the lake body were higher than those in the surface sediments of the inlet rivers. The ratio of PAHs in Poyang Lake was 4 rings > 5 rings > 6 rings > 3 rings > 2 rings; the composition of 4-ring PAHs was dominant, and its content accounted for 86.11% of ∑16PAHs. The 2- and 3-ring and some 4-ring PAHs, including Flua and Pyr, were more susceptible to SOM, and the 4 through 6-ring PAHs were more susceptible to ORP and heavy metals and other environmental factors. Spatially, the higher concentration of ∑16PAHs occurred in the area of the lake adjacent to Duchang County and Poyang County, where the terrain was relatively closed, and the water exchange with the surrounding area was less than that in other sections, which was not conducive to the migration, transformation, and degradation of pollutants. In the temporal distribution, the changes in PAHs concentration level and the development of GDP in Jiangxi Province showed high consistency, and the influence of economic development and human activities might have been the main reason for the increasing PAHs concentration level. The main sources of PAHs in surface sediments of Poyang Lake included petroleum pollution and oil and coal and biomass combustion sources, and there were some spatial differences in PAHs sources in different regions. This study can provide a reference for PAHs pollution in surface sediments of Poyang Lake, which is important for the ecological environmental protection and management of Poyang Lake.
