RESUMEN

Background: Initial randomised controlled trials (RCTs) showed that prophylactic azithromycin in pregnant women improved maternal and neonatal outcomes; however, the recent evidence did not show any benefit to neonatal survival. There is conflicting evidence over the role of azithromycin prophylaxis in antenatal and intrapartum periods. We explored whether azithromycin prophylaxis in pregnant women improves maternal and neonatal outcomes. Methods: For this systematic review and meta-analysis registered on PROSPERO [CRD42023411093], we searched seven databases (PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane Library, EBSCOHost, ProQuest, and Web of Science) and clinical trial registries until 04/23/2024, for RCTs evaluating antenatal/intrapartum azithromycin prophylaxis against placebo/routine care in pregnant women. The primary outcome was neonatal mortality. Intrapartum and antenatal administration were assessed separately. We used random-effects meta-analysis. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane RoB 2 tool. The GRADE approach was used to evaluate the certainty of the evidence. Findings: Screening 2161 records retrieved 20 RCTs (56,381 participants). Intrapartum azithromycin may make little or no difference to neonatal mortality [5 RCTs, 44,436 participants; Risk Ratio (RR): 1.02, 95% CI 0.86-1.20, I 2  = 0%, very low certainty], and maternal mortality [3 RCTs, 44,131 participants, RR: 1.26, 0.65-2.42, I 2  = 0%, low certainty]. Similarly, antenatal azithromycin may have little or no effect on neonatal mortality [3 RCTs; 5304 participants; RR: 0.74, 0.35-1.56, I 2  = 43%, very-low certainty] and maternal mortality [3 RCTs; 8167 participants RR: 1.62, 0.67-3.91, I 2  = 0%, low certainty]. There is no data on long-term adverse outcomes and antimicrobial resistance. Interpretation: Low to very low certainty evidence suggests that intrapartum or antenatal azithromycin prophylaxis in pregnant women might not reduce maternal or neonatal mortality. Funding: None.

In the current scenario, obesity is a stimulating health problem and is growing very rapidly in the world. It is a complex disease caused by the imbalance between the energy intake and the energy expenditure. There are various diseases associated with obesity, i.e., diabetes, hypertension, cancer, atherosclerosis, and other cardiovascular problems, which produce a serious impact on the social and financial system of the population. Moreover, changing the lifestyle and other behavioral changes might help in decreasing weight loss, but it is quite challenging to achieve. Nearly 10-20% of males and 20-30% of females come under the obese condition. The most convenient therapy for treating obesity is the use of synthetic drugs available in the markets, like orlistat and sibutramine, but these drugs have serious side effects, along with this surgical procedure, and are also not safe. Various herbal medicines and bioactives are preferred as game changers. Many herbal plants and their bioactive compounds have recently demonstrated promising effects in treating obesity. They achieve this by acting on various signaling pathways, reducing the levels of hormones associated with obesity, and regulating the abundance and composition of gut microbiota. This review concludes by highlighting the potential role of various herbal plants in managing obesity.

Residue behaviour and dietary risk assessment of cyantraniliprole, flubendiamide and acetamiprid in broccoli were carried out using the QuEChERS (quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged and safe) technique coupled with LC-MS/MS. The QuEChERS technique was validated on parameters such as linearity, accuracy, precision, robustness, matrix effects, limit of quantification (LOQ), specificity, retention time and ion ratio as per SANTE (Directorate General for Health and Food Safety) guidelines to attest to the specificity, accuracy and precision of the analytical method in estimating insecticide residues in and on broccoli heads and cropped soil. The LOQ of the method for all three insecticides was 0.01 mg/kg. The initial deposits of cyantraniliprole, flubendiamide and acetamiprid reduced to half of its concentration in 1.873-2.354, 1.975-2.484 and 1.371-1.620 days, respectively. No residues were detected in broccoli-cropped soil at harvest time (30 days after last spray). The proposed maximum residue limits (MRLs) of 1.5, 0.5-0.9 and 2.0-3 mg/kg for cyantraniliprole, flubendiamide and acetamiprid were calculated using the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development MRL calculator. The acute and chronic dietary risk assessment of the tested insecticides identified no appreciable dietary risk to the Indian population from the consumption of broccoli heads. The findings of no dietary risk highlight the importance of informed pesticide usage in broccoli and the proposed MRL derived from this study offers crucial guidelines for the regulatory authorities, ensuring the safety of broccoli consumption.

Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) causes a debilitating fever and joint pain, with no specific antiviral treatment available. Halogenated secondary metabolites from plants are a promising new class of drug candidates against chikungunya, with unique properties that make them effective against the virus. Plants produce these compounds to defend themselves against pests and pathogens, and they are effective against a wide range of viruses, including chikungunya. This study investigated the interactions of halogenated secondary metabolites with nsP2pro, a therapeutic target for CHIKV. A library of sixty-six halogenated plant metabolites screened previously for ADME properties was used. Metabolites without violation of Lipinski's rule were docked with nsP2pro using AutoDock Vina. To find the stability of the pipoxide chlorohydrin-nsP2pro complex, the GROMACS suite was used for MD simulation. The binding free energy of the ligand-protein complex was computed using MMPBSA. Molecular docking studies revealed that halogenated metabolites interact with nsP2pro, suggesting they are possible inhibitors. Pipoxide chlorohydrin showed the greatest affinity to the target. This was further confirmed by the MD simulations, surface accessible area, and MMPBSA studies. Pipoxide chlorohydrin, a halogenated metabolite, was the most potent against nsP2pro in the survey.

RESUMEN

Direct installation of key functionalities in a molecule through C-H bond activation is one of the thrust areas as well as challenging task in organic synthesis. Particularly, introduction of chlorine in a molecule imparts additional benefits for further functionalizations as well as improves the electronic behaviour such as lipophilicity and polarity towards drug development process. The chlorinated molecules have also been established as efficient biologically relevant scaffolds. Current manuscript has been focused on the direct installation of the chlorine atom at various aromatic and aliphatic positions to produce functional molecules. The key highlight of the manuscript belongs to the site selectivity (regioselectivity) for the installation of chlorine functionality. Manuscript describes the advanced methods developed for the direct C-H chlorination reactions and further simplified for the chlorination reactions at various positions including aromatic (o-, m-, and p-), benzylic, heteroaromatic, and aliphatic positions. Directing groups (DGs) and the coordination with the catalyst is the key for the enhancement of regioselectivities during direct C-H chlorination reactions.

BACKGROUND: The tumor microenvironment of solid tumors governs the differentiation of otherwise non-immunosuppressive macrophages and gamma delta (γδ) T cells into strong immunosuppressors while promoting suppressive abilities of known immunosuppressors such as myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) upon infiltration into the tumor beds. RECENT FINDINGS: In epithelial malignancies, tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), precursor monocytic MDSCs (M-MDSCs), and gamma delta (γδ) T cells often acquire strong immunosuppressive abilities that dampen spontaneous immune responses by tumor-infiltrating T cells and B lymphocytes against cancer. Both M-MDSCs and γδ T cells have been associated with worse prognosis for multiple epithelial cancers. CONCLUSION: Here we discuss recent discoveries on how tumor-associated macrophages and precursor M-MDSCs as well as tumor associated-γδ T cells acquire immunosuppressive abilities in the tumor beds, promote cancer metastasis, and perspectives on how possible novel interventions could restore the effective adaptive immune responses in epithelial cancers.

A new approach to control the n-doping reaction of organic semiconductors is reported using surface-functionalized gold nanoparticles (f-AuNPs) with alkylthiols acting as the catalyst only upon mild thermal activation. To demonstrate the versatility of this methodology, the reaction of the n-type dopant precursor N-DMBI-H with several molecular and polymeric semiconductors at different temperatures with/without f-AuNPs, vis-à-vis the unfunctionalized catalyst AuNPs, was investigated by spectroscopic, morphological, charge transport, and kinetic measurements as well as, computationally, the thermodynamic of catalyst activation. The combined experimental and theoretical data demonstrate that while f-AuNPs is inactive at room temperature both in solution and in the solid state, catalyst activation occurs rapidly at mild temperatures (~70 °C) and the doping reaction completes in few seconds affording large electrical conductivities (~10-140 S cm-1). The implementation of this methodology enables the use of semiconductor+dopant+catalyst solutions and will broaden the use of the corresponding n-doped films in opto-electronic devices such as thin-film transistors, electrochemical transistors, solar cells, and thermoelectrics well as guide the design of new catalysts.

A field experiment following good agricultural practices was laid out to study the dissipation of spirotetramat (90 g a.i. ha-1 and 180 g a.i. ha-1) and chlorpyrifos (400 g a.i. ha-1 and 800 g a.i. ha-1) on cabbage heads and soil. Samples were processed using quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe (QuEChERS) method for residue estimation of spirotetramat and chlorpyrifos, which were further detected using HPLC-PDA and GC-FPD respectively. The residues of spirotetramat on cabbage heads reached below detection limit (BDL) (< 0.05 mg kg-1) on 7th and 10th day and for chlorpyrifos, BDL (< 0.01 mg kg-1) was achieved on 10th and 15th day for X and 2X dose, respectively. On 20th day after second spray, residues in soil were found to be BDL for both the pesticides. Half-life of spirotetramat and chlorpyrifos was found to be 3 and 2 days, respectively while a safe pre-harvest interval (PHI) of 9 days for spirotetramat and 10 days for chlorpyrifos is suggested on cabbage. The dietary risk assessment studies for various age groups of Indian population, ascertained safety of treated cabbage heads for consumption, as current study revealed that hazard quotient (HQ) < 1 and theoretical maximum dietary intake (TMDI) < maximum permissible intake (MPI) for both the pesticides at respective PHI.

This study explores how individuals who have experienced COVID-19 share their stories on YouTube, focusing on the nature of information disclosure, public engagement, and emotional impact pertaining to consumer health. Using a dataset of 186 YouTube videos, we used text mining and video analytics techniques to analyze textual transcripts and visual frames to identify themes, emotions, and their relationship with viewer engagement metrics. Findings reveal eight key themes: infection origins, symptoms, treatment, mental well-being, isolation, prevention, government directives, and vaccination. While viewers engaged most with videos about infection origins, treatment, and vaccination, fear and sadness in the text consistently drove views, likes, and comments. Visuals primarily conveyed happiness and sadness, but their influence on engagement varied. This research highlights the crucial role YouTube plays in disseminating COVID-19 patient narratives and suggests its potential for improving health communication strategies. By understanding how emotions and content influence viewer engagement, healthcare professionals and public health officials can tailor their messaging to better connect with the public and address pandemic-related anxieties.

Instant rice is well-suited for ready-to-use applications as low-moisture, light-weight military ration and emergency food for our Armed Forces, offering longer shelf life with rapid rehydration characteristics. Present investigation demonstrated the effect of different salt pretreatment during soaking as precooking operation on the physico-chemical, cooking and rehydration kinetics of instant rice. Application of salt pretreatment reduced bulk density and damaged grain percentage, while enhanced the porosity, volume expansion percent, weight gain percentage, and rehydration characteristics. The grain elongation ratio was not affected significantly by the application of salt pretreatments; however, water uptake and chemical composition were significantly affected. Soaking pretreatment with 1% calcium chloride, followed by open pan cooking and subsequently freeze-thaw-dehydrating until attainment of 5-6% moisture content was found to be the optimal processing condition for developing instant rice with less than 2 min of rehydration time by mere addition of hot water. Modelling of water absorption behaviour revealed that both Peleg (R2 0.980-0.999) and Singh and Kulshrestha (R2 0.966-0.999) models fitted well. Colorectal cancer affects 1 in 25 females and 1 in 24 males, making it the third most frequent cancer with over 6,08,030 deaths worldwide, despite advancements in detection and treatments, including surgery, chemotherapeutics, radiotherapy, and immune therapeutics. Novel potential agents have increased survival in acute and chronic disease conditions, with a higher risk of side effects and cost. However, metastatic disease has an insignificant long-term diagnosis, and significant challenges remain due to last-stage diagnosis and treatment failure. Early detection, survival, and treatment efficacy are all improved by biomarkers. The advancement of cancer biomarkers' molecular pathology and genomics during the last three decades has improved therapy. Clinically useful prognostic biomarkers assist clinical judgment, for example, by predicting the success of EGFR-inhibiting antibodies in the presence of KRAS gene mutations. Few biomarkers are currently used in clinical settings, so further research is still needed. Nanocarriers, with materials like Carbon nanotubes and gold nanoparticles, provide targeted CRC drug delivery and diagnostics. Light-responsive drugs with gold and silica nanoparticles effectively target and destroy CRC cells. We evaluate the potential use of the long non-coding RNA (non-coding RNA) oncogene plasmacytoma variant translocation 1 (PVT1) as a diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic biomarker, along with the latest nanotech breakthroughs in CRC diagnosis and treatment.

Fahr syndrome is a rare neurologic disorder, usually affecting young and middle-aged adults, that can present with symptoms ranging from extrapyramidal to neuropsychiatric abnormalities. Pseudohypoparathyroidism (PHP), characterized by parathyroid hormone (PTH)-resistance or PTH-unresponsiveness at target organs, is associated with Fahr syndrome and typically presents with hypocalcemia. The following case presents a 39-year-old-woman with PHP complicated by symptomatic hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, and movement disturbances, who had computed tomography imaging showing basal ganglia calcifications consistent with Fahr syndrome. She initially presented with headache and was hospitalized for hypertensive emergency and severe hypocalcemia. Examination, including the neurologic examination, was unrevealing aside from hypertension and central adiposity. Laboratory tests were consistent with PHP, showing hypocalcemia with elevated PTH, and negative for hyperaldosteronism. Management of hypocalcemia consisted of intravenous calcium infusion, oral calcium carbonate, oral vitamin D3, and oral calcitriol. Patients with severe hypocalcemia and elevated PTH who present with new neurological symptoms despite normal general neurologic examination may warrant consideration for brain imaging to evaluate for Fahr syndrome. Further investigations are necessary to determine the prevalence of Fahr syndrome and hypokalemia in patients with PHP, explore if these findings are significantly associated with PHP-1b subtype, and ultimately inform potential new screening pathways for these patients.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Cadherin13 (CDH13) is an uncommon cadherin family member, lacking a transmembrane domain, and attaches via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchor to the peripheral surface of the cell membrane. CDH13 plays an important role in the development and maintenance of axonal growth cones, synapse morphogenesis, and the embryonic neural tube. Cadherin superfamily genes have been associated with many neuropsychiatric diseases. Studies have shown the Cadherin13 gene as a risk locus for Schizophrenia (SCZ). In this study, we investigated CDH13 gene variants rs7204454 in the promotor region and rs9940180 in the intronic region of the gene with susceptibility to SCZ risk in the population of Jammu region of J&K, India. METHODS: The genotyping was performed using TaqMan assay, where 560 individuals, comprising 164 patients and 396 healthy controls, were genotyped. RESULTS: The result of the study suggested rs9940180 was significantly found to be associated with Schizophrenia and the "C" allele of rs9940180 was associated with increased risk for SCZ (P = 0.03817; OR = 1.527; 95% CI, 1.022-2.28) whereas the other variant rs7204454 of CDH13 gene did not show significant association with schizophrenia risk with P = 0.8827, OR = 0.582-1.33 at 95% CI. CONCLUSION: This is the first report suggesting a significant association of polymorphism at CDH13 rs9940180 with Schizophrenia in the Dogra population group of the Jammu region. The current study offers a piece of important information on the genetic reason for CDH13 in the Jammu population of J&K. Also, it supports the GWAS findings on the correlation of CDH13 in schizophrenia.

Mancozeb residue estimation was done using second derivative ultraviolet spectroscopy by Shimadzu ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometer, and chlorpyrifos was estimated by QuEChERS technique using GC-FPD. The persistence for chlorpyrifos was carried out at two locations, and for mancozeb, persistence studies were carried out at four locations. Initial deposits of mancozeb on apple fruits ranged from 1.33 to 1.63 mg/kg at the recommended dose and from 2.55 to 3.26 mg/kg at double the recommended dose at all four locations. Chlorpyrifos residues in apple fruits had an initial deposit of 0.94-0.99 mg/kg at recommended dose and 1.75-1.92 mg/kg at double the recommended dose. Mancozeb residues in apple fruit were below the detection limit (BDL) after 20 days at recommended dose and after 25 days at double the recommended dose at two locations, while mancozeb residue at the other two locations and the residues of chlorpyrifos at all locations reached BDL after 15 and 20 days at recommended and double the recommended doses, respectively. Half-life of mancozeb varied from 3.07 to 4.02 days at recommended dose and from 3.30 to 4.32 days at double the recommended dose, whereas chlorpyrifos residues dissipated to half their initial concentration on 2.33-2.35 days at recommended dose and 2.89-2.90 days at double the recommended dose. The soil samples showed no presence of residues of chlorpyrifos and mancozeb at harvest. The risk assessment revealed that hazard quotient for the intake of mancozeb was in the range of 0.06-0.13% and 0.20-0.44% for rural and urban population, while for the intake of chlorpyrifos, hazard quotient was in the range of 0.10-0.12% for rural population and 0.33-0.38% for urban population, and theoretical maximum dietary intake (9.67 × 10-5 mg/person and 3.18 × 10-4 mg/person for rural population and urban population in case of mancozeb and 3.22 × 10-5 mg/person and 1.06 × 10-4 mg/person for rural population and urban population in case of chlorpyrifos) was also found to be less than maximum permissible intake (1.38 mg/kg for mancozeb and 0.60 mg/kg for chlorpyrifos). The results of risk assessment thereby indicated that apple consumption does not pose a risk to human health.

Immature teratoma is a rare type of germ cell tumor containing embryonic tissues that may be malignant. It usually occurs in young women and affects the ovaries. Teratomas exhibit benign clinical behavior, but they can return as teratomas or with malignant components, and in a small subset of individuals, the prognosis may be deadly. We will discuss a case of a 9-year-old female child who presented with pain and a huge lump in the lower abdomen that was suggestive of an ovarian dermoid cyst or a germ cell tumor on computed tomography (CT) abdomen pelvis and underwent exploratory laparotomy and debulking surgery. Histopathology results indicated that she had a grade 3 immature teratoma. Postoperatively, the patient received 3 cycles of bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin (BEP) as adjuvant chemotherapy with a good response. She is currently under regular follow-up and has no evidence of recurrence or metastasis. This case illustrates the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of immature teratoma, which can be cured with surgery and chemotherapy. It also highlights the challenges of managing such a large tumor in a pediatric patient.

Placental abruption, a rare but life-threatening obstetric emergency, presents substantial risks to maternal and fetal well-being. This case report documents the clinical journey of a 35-year-old woman with multiple risk factors who presented at 30 weeks gestation with symptoms suggestive of placental abruption, including colicky lower abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding. Notably, her late initiation of prenatal care and a history of pregnancy-induced hypertension added complexity to the clinical picture. The case revealed a Couvelaire uterus, an uncommon and challenging complication of placental abruption, further emphasizing the need for early recognition and swift intervention. A multidisciplinary approach played a pivotal role in managing this high-risk obstetric case. Imaging and laboratory tests facilitated diagnosis and assessment, guiding surgical intervention and post-operative care. Despite the severity of the condition, the patient experienced a positive outcome for herself and her fetus, highlighting the critical importance of timely and comprehensive medical care. This case report contributes to medical knowledge by shedding light on the rare Couvelaire uterus. It underscores the significance of early diagnosis, coordinated healthcare teams, and patient education in mitigating risks associated with placental abruption. Ultimately, it reinforces the vital role of healthcare providers in safeguarding the lives of expectant mothers and their infants in obstetric emergencies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The topical drug delivery system has gained more attention in recent years as compared to oral and parenteral drug delivery. However, owing to the barrier function of the skin's topmost layer, only a few drug molecules can be administered by this route. Therefore, encapsulating the drugs in glycerosomes is one potential solution to this problem. Glycerosomes are vesicular drug delivery systems primarily made up of large concentrations of glycerol, phospholipid, water, and other active ingredients. OBJECTIVE: The main aim of this review is to summarize the most recent information on the encapsulated vesicular system used in cosmetic preparations, specifically glycerosomes made from both synthetic and naturally occurring plant bioactive substances. PURPOSE: Glycerosomes offer many benefits, including increased efficacy, better stability, improve absorption, drug targeting at specific sites, and delivering the same at a predetermined rate. METHOD: The mechanism behind the penetration of glycerosomes is the hydration and lipid fluidization of skin, fabricated by glycerol. RESULT: Numerous methods have been reported for the formulation of glycerosomes, including the thin film hydration method, reverse-phase evaporation, solvent spherule, detergent removal method, and so on. CONCLUSION: Researchers are currently investigating the potential of glycerosomes as nanocarriers for natural bioactive and synthetic drugs. This review describes the structure of glycerosomes, preparation techniques, applications, distinctions from liposomes, and benefits of glycerosomes.

The Indian Punjab state is drained by the four rivers, along with a well-connected network of canals, and is now dealing with a slew of water quality issues and problems. In this study, basin-wise hydrogeochemical modelling of 323 groundwater samples and identification of NO3- and F- enrichment pathways in aquifer systems of Punjab were studied using different plots and multivariate statistics. To evaluate the groundwater quality and human health risks, an entropy-based water quality index and Monte Carlo simulation were used, respectively. Spatial distribution of NO3- indicated that its very high values were prominent in parts of southwestern Punjab falling under LSRB, along with few pockets in eastern and northeastern Punjab falling under MSRB and GRB. High NO3- values (> 45.0 mg/L) were found in 15.0% of Ravi River Basin (RRB) groundwater samples, 22.86% of Beas River Basin (BRB), 23.52% of Middle Sutlej River Basin (MSRB), 36.9% of Lower Sutlej River Basin (LSRB), and 21.31% of Ghaggar River Basin (GRB). The spatial distribution of NO3- revealed elevated concentrations (> 100 mg/L) in the southwestern part of Punjab, particularly in LSRB and localized pockets in the eastern and northeastern areas of Punjab within MSRB and GRB. High F- concentration (> 1.5 mg/L) was observed in 15.12% and 21.31% groundwater samples of LSRB and GRB, respectively. Spatially southern parts falling under LSRB and GRB reflected high F- content (> 1.5 mg/L) in groundwater. In LSRB, evaporative and anthropogenic processes influence the groundwater quality. The results of interionic relationships and statistical analysis revealed that NO3- has anthropogenic origin and that is being aggravated by leaching, the evaporation processes, animal excreta, septic tanks and irrigation return flows in LSRB and GRB, while F- is geogenic in nature. Hazard index (HI) values in 14.63%, 22.2%, 24.6%, 49.58%, and 34.42% samples for adults and 21.95%, 27.7%, 42.0%, 72.3%, and 52.46% samples for children were higher than unity in RRB, BRB, MSRB, LSRB, and GRB, respectively. The basin-wise demarcation of various groundwater quality parameter and assessment of human health risk would be of significance for the management of water resources.

AIM: This qualitative study explores with health professionals the provision of, and challenges for, postdischarge stroke care, focussing on eating, drinking and psychological support across India. DESIGN: Qualitative semistructured interviews. SETTING: Seven geographically diverse hospitals taking part in a Global Health Research Programme on Improving Stroke Care in India. PARTICIPANTS: A purposive sample of healthcare professionals with current experience of working with patients who had a stroke. RESULTS: Interviews with 66 healthcare professionals (23 nurses (14 staff nurses; 7 senior nurse officers; 1 intensive care unit nurse; 1 palliative care nurse)); 16 doctors (10 neurologists; 6 physicians); 10 physiotherapists; 5 speech and language therapists; 4 occupational therapists; 4 dieticians; 2 psychiatrists; and 2 social workers resulted in three main themes: integrated inpatient discharge care planning processes; postdischarge patient and caregiver role and challenges; patient and caregiver engagement post discharge. CONCLUSIONS: Discharge planning was integrated and customised, although resources were limited in some sites. Task shifting compensated for a lack of specialists but was limited by staff education and training. Caregivers faced challenges in accessing and providing postdischarge care. Postdischarge care was mainly hospital based, supported by teleservices, especially for rural populations. Further research is needed to understand postdischarge care provision and the needs of stroke survivors and their caregivers.

There is sufficient scientific evidence that quality pre-conceptional care and antenatal care can improve newborn survival. This review was conducted to understand the concept of pre-conceptional care and its implementation status in India. The review documents the specific interventions that have been proven to effectively improve pregnancy outcome when provided as pre-conception care. Healthcare providers, particularly obstetricians/gynecologists and general physicians, should prioritize pre-conception care as an essential component of healthcare for women. However, the lack of continuum of care and program linkages are some of the key barriers in ensuring pre-conceptional and ante-natal care in India. Culturally and linguistically appropriate care should be provided to ensure that all women can access and understand the information and services needed to optimize their reproductive health and improve pregnancy outcomes. Prioritizing pre-conception and prenatal care, healthcare providers can improve maternal and fetal outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and promote lifelong health for women and their families. The primary healthcare reforms being done in India can be and should be used to strengthen pre-conceptional and ante-natal care services and quality.
