RESUMEN
The environmental fate of strontium (Sr) and cesium (Cs), as the critical radioactive fission products, have raised significant concerns regarding radioactive waste disposal and environmental protection. The current study investigated the distinction in the binding configurations of Sr2+ and Cs+ on various 2:1 phyllosilicate (illite, vermiculite, and montmorillonite) by combining batch adsorption, sequential extraction, and spectroscopic analyses. The results show that strontium adsorption is strongly influenced by pH as well as ionic strength, while there is no significant variability in strontium adsorption by different types of clay minerals. EXAFS analysis confirms the outer complexation of strontium on the planar sites of the clay minerals, i.e., Sr2+ is surrounded by ~8.0 O atoms, RSr-O ≈ 2.6 Å, and that process is mainly realized by ion exchange. In contrast, Cs+ adsorption was markedly influenced by the variety of clay minerals but less by pH and ionic strength, the presence of humic acid (HA) inhibited Cs+ adsorption. The inner-sphere complexation formed mainly at the frayed edge sites on illite, and interlayer sites on vermiculite and montmorillonite, was the dominant mechanism for Cs+ adsorption. In addition, the collapse of the interlayer space of vermiculite induced by Cs+ adsorption on the interlayer sites was responsible for the more stable and irreversible immobilization. The findings in present work highlighted the significance of prevailed mineral in governing environmental migration risk of radionuclides, the revealed adsorption mechanism and binding configuration of Sr2+ and Cs+ on typical phyllosilicates would be referable in constructing a reliable migration model of Sr2+ and Cs+ in natural media.

Co-culture of rice (Oryza sativa) and aquatic animals (CRAAs) is an efficient eco-agricultural model and has been widely implemented in many Asia countries. However, its impact on soil organic carbon (SOC) content has not been synthesized and the relative effects of different CRAAs practices on SOC have not been assessed. Our meta-analysis aims to synthesize the effect of diverse CRAAs regimes on SOC content based on results from 200 field experiments. Our results showed that overall, CRAAs significantly increased SOC content by 11.6 % (P < 0.05). The highest relative effect on SOC content was found under the rice and amphibian coculture (P < 0.05). Also, CRAAs increased SOC content more significantly in temperate regions (19.1 %) than in subtropical (9.7 %) and tropical (12.1 %) regions (P < 0.05). In addition, CRAAs were more effective in enhancing SOC content in paddy soils with high nitrogen content (total nitrogen [TN] >1.2 g·N kg-1 soil) or alkaline soils. Further, SOC increased more in the CRAAs with japonica than indica rice, increasing 17.8 % and 6.1 % as compared to their respective rice-monoculture controls. Random forest analysis revealed that animal type was the most important factor influencing SOC under CRAAs. Together, these results indicate that CRAAs can significantly enhance SOC, particularly in low-N, alkaline paddy soils. Our findings suggest that CRAAs with appropriate rice and animal varieties can provide unique opportunities for soil C sequestration, while enhancing farmers' profitability.
RESUMEN
INTRODUCTION: Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) is widely used off-label in patients with immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN), although the literature does not consistently agree on its efficacy and safety. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang Data, and SinoMed from their inception to August 2023. We included randomized controlled trials that enrolled patients of IgAN who received MMF treatment and compared effects with placebo or as an add-on therapy to usual care. Literature screening, risk of bias assessment, and data extraction were independently conducted in duplicate. Fixed-effects or random-effects meta-analyses were performed for pooling data where eligible. The primary outcomes were the composite kidney outcomes of major adverse kidney events (MAKDE) defined as doubling of serum creatinine, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), or death from a kidney disease-related or cardiovascular cause. RESULTS: Of 13 studies identified, 918 participants (463 [50.4%] treated with MMF) with IgAN were included in the analysis. MMF treatment in IgAN was associated with decreasing the occurrence of MAKDE (RR, 0.32; 95%CI, 0.13 to 0.77), reducing proteinuria (RR, 1.41; 95%CI, 1.22 to 1.64), and lessening the probability of doubling blood creatinine (RR, 0.32, 95% CI, 0.14 to 0.72). No significant differences were detected in the incidence of ESRD (RR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.38 to 2.03), or progression of chronic kidney disease (RR, 1.01; 95%CI, 0.22 to 4.57). Patients receiving MMF had a higher risk of infection (RR, 2.20; 95%CI, 1.21 to 4.00). CONCLUSION: MMF administration in IgAN indicates promising in decreasing the occurrence of MAKDE, reducing proteinuria level, and lessening the probability of doubling blood creatinine, but also comes with the risk of infection. These findings tend to be introduced to non-Caucasian population. The long-term favorable effects that MMF improved kidney outcomes still needs need further cross-regional and cross-ethnical verification.
RESUMEN
The systematic review aimed to investigate the associations between index-based dietary patterns and the risk and severity of periodontitis. Four public databases were searched for relevant published articles. Two independent researchers conducted the study selection, quality assessment, and data extraction. Methodological quality of the selected studies was evaluated using Joanna Briggs Institute Checklists. The review was registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023395049). Twenty-five studies were eligible for this review, including 23 cross-sectional studies and two prospective cohort studies. The most utilized dietary indices were the Healthy Eating Index (HEI), the Mediterranean Diet Score (MDS), and the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII). The results indicated a positive association between higher diet quality (i.e., higher HEI and MDSs and lower DII scores) and healthier periodontal status. Subgroup meta-analysis for four studies utilizing HEI and CDC/AAP case definition indicates the protective effect of higher HEI scores on the risk of periodontitis (OR [95% CI] = 0.77[0.68, 0.88]) with statistical significance (Z = 3.91 [p < 0.0001]). Dietary assessment was conducted by validated food frequency questionnaires (FFQ) in 52% of the studies and 24-h dietary recalls in 36% of the studies. One study utilized a validated 15-item questionnaire to measure patients' adherence to the Mediterranean Diet (QueMD). The quality assessment showed that all studies were of high quality. High HEI and MDSs and low DII scores were associated with a low risk of periodontitis and better periodontal conditions. The standardized and repeatable diet guidelines might be provided for preventing periodontitis. Future prospective studies and clinical trials are needed to confirm this causal association.
RESUMEN
Aim: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus LRa05 supplementation in enhancing Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication rate and alleviating the gastrointestinal side effects associated with bismuth quadruple therapy. Methods: H. pylori-positive patients were randomized to receive levofloxacin-based bismuth quadruple therapy combined either probiotic LRa05 or a placebo for two weeks, followed by LRa05 (1 × 1010 CFU) or maltodextrin for the next two weeks. H. pylori infection was detected by 13C breath test pre- and post-treatment. Blood and stool samples were collected at week 0 and week 4 for routine and biochemical analysis, and serum inflammatory markers. Gastrointestinal symptoms were evaluated using the gastrointestinal symptom rating scale (GSRS). Intestinal microbiota was analyzed using 16S rRNA sequencing. The research was listed under the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR2300072220), and written informed consent was obtained from all participants. Results: The LRa05 group exhibited a trend toward higher H. pylori eradication rates (86.11%) compared to the placebo group (82.86%), though the difference was not statistically significant. Significant reductions in neutrophil count, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, pepsinogen I, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) (p < 0.05) suggest that LRa05 supplementation may mitigate inflammation, enhance liver function, and potential aid in early cancer prevention. GSRS symptom scores showed that LRa05 alleviated abdominal pain, acid reflux, bloating, and diarrhea, enhancing patient compliance. Furthermore, 16S rRNA sequencing showed that LRa05 countered the antibiotic-induced disruption of gut microbiota diversity, primarily by increasing beneficial bacteria. Conclusion: Although LRa05 did not significantly improve the success rate of H. pylori eradication therapy, it has the potential to improve liver function and reduced levels of inflammatory markers such as IL-6 and TNF-α in the body, regulating the inflammatory response. In addition, it played a positive role in alleviating the adverse symptoms and gut microbiota disturbances caused by eradication therapy, providing a possible way to improve the overall health of patients and demonstrating promising clinical potential. Phototherapy has demonstrated substantial development because in the second near-infrared (NIR-II) window it has a larger tissue penetration and fewer adverse consequences. In this work, a particular kind of NIR-II responsive Fe-doped carbon nanoparticles (FDCNs) is synthesized using a one-pot hydrothermal method for combined photothermal and chemodynamic therapy. The mesoporous nanostructure of FDCN, which has a size distribution that exceeds 225 nm, allows for effective acidification. The iron ions released from these nanoparticles can catalyze the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into hydroxyl radical (â¢OH) for chemodynamic therapy (CDT). In addition to their CDT utility, FDCN can effectively adsorb and transform 1064 nm light into local heat, achieving a photothermal conversion efficacy (PCE) of 36.3%. This dual functionality not only allows for the direct eradication of cancer cells through photothermal therapy (PTT) but also enhances the chemodynamic reaction, creating a synergistic effect that amplifies the therapeutic outcome. The FDCN has demonstrated remarkable anticancer activity in both cellular and animal tests without incurring major systemic toxicity. This suggests that the compound has great promise for use in clinical cancer therapy.

BACKGROUND: Precision dosing in sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) has become a hotspot gradually, yet no standardized dose adjustment pattern for house dust mite (HDM)-SLIT. This study aims to investigate the clinical feasibility of the dynamic maintenance dose ascending regimen for individualized SLIT. METHODS: A total of 258 allergic rhinitis (AR) patients treated with HDM-SLIT were included in this retrospective study. Patients were divided into the regular dose (RD) group (n = 101) and the high dose (HD) group (n = 157) according to different maintenance dosages of SLIT. In the RD group, patients received the fixed dose recommended by the manufacturer. In the HD group, patients received a maximum tolerance dose determined by dynamic dose ascending. The clinical efficacy was evaluated by combined symptom and medication score (CSMS) and visual analogue scale score (VAS) at the baseline, 0.5-year, 1-year, and 2-year. The safety was evaluated by adverse events (AEs). RESULTS: Significant reductions of CSMS and VAS at 0.5-year, 1-year, and 2-year were observed in both the RD group and the HD group compared to the baseline (P < 0.05). In addition, greater improvements in these clinical parameters from 0.5- to 2-year were found in the HD group compared to the RD group (P < 0.05). For subgroup analysis in the HD group, no significant differences in CSMS and VAS were observed among subgroups of patients <14 years old and patients ≥14 years old (P > 0.05). No serious AEs in the two groups and no significant differences were observed between the AE incidence rate of the RD group and HD group during the incremental and maintenance phases. CONCLUSIONS: The 2-year HDM-SLIT with dynamic maintenance dose ascending regimen offers an "optimal" treatment for AR patients while maintaining safety. This study introduced a pattern for individualized dose adjustment in clinical practice, offering potential benefits for AR patients.
RESUMEN
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown contradictory results between early application of antiplatelet therapy and intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for mild acute ischaemic stroke (AIS), with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score 0-5. OBJECTIVE: To compare the benefits and risks of antiplatelet therapy and IVT in patients with mild AIS. METHODS: A systematic search of MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane Library was conducted from database inception until July 2023, without language restriction. Randomised clinical trials (RCTs) or observational studies were selected. The primary outcomes were 90-day functional outcomes, measured by the modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score. The protocol has been registered before data collection. RESULTS: Two RCTs and four observational studies with relatively low risk of bias that enrolled 3975 patients were analysed (2454 in antiplatelet therapy and 1521 in IVT therapy). There were no significant differences between antiplatelet therapy and IVT in 90-day functional outcomes (mRS 0-1, OR 1.08 (95% CI 0.73 to 1.58); mRS 0-2, OR, 1.04 (95% CI 0.63 to 1.73)), death (OR, 0.64 (95% CI 0.19 to 2.13)) and stroke recurrence (OR, 0.71 (95% CI 0.28 to 1.79)). Antiplatelet therapy was associated with a reduced risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage (sICH) compared with IVT (OR, 0.20 (95% CI 0.06 to 0.69)). CONCLUSIONS: Among patients with mild AIS, compared with IVT, early application of antiplatelet therapy was not significantly associated with improved functional outcomes, reduced death or stroke recurrence, but was significantly associated with a reduced risk of sICH. RESUMEN
INTRODUCTION: Effective risk communication is essential for achieving patient-centered oral health care, but the limited understanding of patients' subjective perceptions of orthodontic-related risks hinders this process. This study aimed to investigate adults' awareness, concerns, and risk-avoidance behaviors about long-term orthodontic risks, exploring their relationship with psychosocial factors. METHODS: We included 498 adult patients (mean age, 27.3 ± 6.8 years; women, 75.5%) during their initial visits to the orthodontic department at a hospital in Chengdu, China. Participants' understanding of orthodontic risks was gauged before and after exposure to the Oral Health Education Comics (OHEC), a specifically designed digital tool. Concurrently, we used logistic regression models to investigate the associations between patients' depression, anxiety, self-esteem, perfectionism, and dentofacial esthetics with risk perceptions. RESULTS: Approximately 79.5% of participants initially reported low awareness of orthodontic risks, with most knowledge from online sources. Notably, the percentage of participants with high awareness increased to 64.8% after OHEC. The negative facial soft-tissue change was most concerning for participants: 53.4% showed high concerns, and 28.1% showed high avoidance. Furthermore, linear regression indicated positive associations between depression (ß = 0.42 [95% confidence interval {CI}, 0.07-0.77]) and anxiety (ß = 0.76 [95% CI, 0.35-1.18]) with orthodontic risk concerns, whereas risk avoidance was positively associated with depression (ß = 0.62 [95% CI, 0.27-0.97]), anxiety (ß = 1.09 [95% CI, 0.68-1.50]), and perfectionism (ß = 0.24 [95% CI, 0.02-0.46]). CONCLUSIONS: Findings emphasize the imperative of streamlined risk communication in orthodontics. By incorporating comprehensible tools such as OHEC and integrating psychosocial evaluations, more refined patient-practitioner communication and psychosomatic-based dental care can be achieved.

Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive and challenging malignancy with limited treatment options, largely attributed to the dense tumor stroma and intrinsic drug resistance. Here, we introduce a novel iron-containing nanoparticle formulation termed PTFE, loaded with the ferroptosis inducer Erastin, to overcome these obstacles and enhance pancreatic cancer therapy. The PTFE nanoparticles were prepared through a one-step assembly process, consisting of an Erastin-loaded PLGA core stabilized by a MOF shell formed by coordination between Fe3+ and tannic acid. PTFE demonstrated a unique capability to repolarize tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) into the M1 phenotype, leading to the regulation of dense tumor stroma by modulating the activation of tumor-associated fibroblasts (TAFs) and reducing collagen deposition. This resulted in enhanced nanoparticle accumulation and deep penetration, as confirmed by in vitro multicellular tumor spheroids and in vivo mesenchymal-rich subcutaneous pancreatic tumor models. Moreover, PTFE effectively combated tumor resistance by synergistically employing the Fe3+-induced Fenton reaction and Erastin-induced ferroptosis, thereby disrupting the redox balance. As a result, significant tumor growth inhibition was achieved in mice-bearing tumor model. Comprehensive safety evaluations demonstrated PTFE's favorable biocompatibility, highlighting its potential as a promising therapeutic platform to effectively address the formidable challenges in pancreatic cancer treatment.
RESUMEN
Background: Untargeted metabonomics has provided new insight into the pathogenesis of sarcopenia. In this study, we explored plasma metabolic signatures linked to a heightened risk of sarcopenia in a cohort study by LC-MS-based untargeted metabonomics. Methods: In this nested case-control study from the Adult Physical Fitness and Health Cohort Study (APFHCS), we collected blood plasma samples from 30 new-onset sarcopenia subjects (mean age 73.2 ± 5.6 years) and 30 healthy controls (mean age 74.2 ± 4.6 years) matched by age, sex, BMI, lifestyle, and comorbidities. An untargeted metabolomics methodology was employed to discern the metabolomic profile alterations present in individuals exhibiting newly diagnosed sarcopenia. Results: In comparing individuals with new-onset sarcopenia to normal controls, a comprehensive analysis using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) identified a total of 62 metabolites, predominantly comprising lipids, lipid-like molecules, organic acids, and derivatives. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis indicated that the three metabolites hypoxanthine (AUC=0.819, 95% CI=0.711-0.927), L-2-amino-3-oxobutanoic acid (AUC=0.733, 95% CI=0.598-0.868) and PC(14:0/20:2(11Z,14Z)) (AUC= 0.717, 95% CI=0.587-0.846) had the highest areas under the curve. Then, these significant metabolites were observed to be notably enriched in four distinct metabolic pathways, namely, "purine metabolism"; "parathyroid hormone synthesis, secretion and action"; "choline metabolism in cancer"; and "tuberculosis". Conclusion: The current investigation elucidates the metabolic perturbations observed in individuals diagnosed with sarcopenia. The identified metabolites hold promise as potential biomarkers, offering avenues for exploring the underlying pathological mechanisms associated with sarcopenia.

BACKGROUND: Internet gaming disorder (IGD) becomes a growing concern during the digital era, especially with the pandemic's social distancing measures. It is essential to comprehend the psychosocial predictors and impacts of IGD. METHODS: A two-wave annual panel study was conducted in Zigong, China, utilizing regional sampling through school-based surveys involving upper primary school to high school students. Data were collected in October 2020 (T1, N = 94,020) and October 2021 (T2, N = 60,551). Self-report data were collected on demographic information, internet gaming behavior, and other mental health factors. Cross-lagged panel models (CLPM) were employed to estimate the bidirectional relationships between the variables. RESULTS: At T1, 65,643 (72.6 %) participants identified as gamers; at T2, this number decreased to 42,213 (69.7 %). T1 IGD symptoms demonstrated predictability for all T2 psychological variables. Within the framework of the CLPM examining the interplay between IGD symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and hyperactivity/inattention, we uncovered significant reciprocal cross-lagged effects between these variables over time. The relationship between T1 IGD symptoms and T2 anxiety symptoms had age-specific differences, with 13-15-year-old boys displaying the highest coefficient, which decreased for the 16-18 age group. LIMITATIONS: Our study is subject to potential recall bias associated with self-reported retrospective data. Additionally, our analysis assumes temporal ordering between variables, an assumption that may not always hold in complex systems. CONCLUSIONS: There are reciprocal relationships between IGD symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and hyperactivity/inattention in adolescents, underscoring the imperative need for comprehensive strategies aimed at addressing the impact of IGD on mental health and overall well-being.

BACKGROUND: Levels of self-management behaviors (SMB) and quality of life (QoL) are suboptimal in Chinese adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D), especially in rural China. Integrated health management within a county medical consortium, featuring multi-level teams of doctors, nurses, and other professionals offering follow-up services such as check-ups, assessments, treatment, and health education, is promising in improving this. This study aimed to assess the effect of integrated health management within a county medical consortium on the SMB and QoL of rural T2D patients in China. METHODS: Based on a survey conducted on the county medical consortium in Eastern China, this study initially employed propensity score matching (PSM), a nonparametric technique, to precisely estimate the average treatment effect on the treated (ATT) of integrated health management on SMB and QoL in rural T2D patients. Subsequently, quantile regression was also performed to estimate the relationship between the implementation of integrated health management, sociodemographic factors, follow-up services (offered during integrated health management) and both SMB and QoL. RESULTS: The ATT values for SMB and QoL, representing the net effect of integrated health management within a county medical consortium on SMB and QoL, were significantly positive. They ranged from 4.34 to 4.67 for SMB and from 0.89 to 1.06 for QoL, respectively, based on the four different PSM modalities. The results of quantile regression also revealed a statistically significant positive association between the implementation of integrated health management and both SMB (coef. = 4.15) and QoL (coef. = 1.54). These findings suggest that integrated health management within a county medical consortium can effectively improve SMB and QoL in rural T2D patients. Furthermore, frequency of follow-up service and health behavior guidance were positively associated with SMB and QoL. Conversely, on-call follow-up services, medication guidance and follow-up services at medical institutions were negatively correlated with SMB or QoL. CONCLUSIONS: The study highlights the effectiveness of integrated health management within a county medical consortium in improving SMB and QoL among individuals with T2D in rural China. The findings offer invaluable insights for the advancement of chronic disease management in rural areas of developing countries.

Exposure to disasters and public health emergencies negatively affects mental health. Research documenting the psychosocial responses to these calamities in China increased dramatically after the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. However, there is no comprehensive assessment of the available literature on China's mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) responses to these events. This scoping review systematically maps existing published research and grey literature sources regarding MHPSS to disasters and emergencies in China. We examined relevant literature in English and Chinese from six databases and official websites from Jan 1, 2000, to Aug 13, 2021, and included 77 full-text records in this review. The main types of interventions reported included a) stepped care intervention models, b) individual structured psychotherapy and pharmacotherapy, c) mental health education, d) psychological counselling, and e) government-based policy interventions. Most interventions were evaluated using quantitative methods that assessed the treatment of common mental disorders. The review found that rapid national mobilization, emphasis on resilience-strengthening interventions, and the widespread use of step-care models were essential components of reducing the adverse psychosocial effects of disasters. The review also identified remaining gaps, including a) a lack of integration of disaster-related services with the pre-existing health care system, b) inadequate supervision of MHPSS providers, and c) limited monitoring and evaluation of the services provided. These results show where additional research is needed in China to improve mental health services. It also provides a framework that other countries can adapt when developing and evaluating MHPSS policies and plans in response to disasters.
RESUMEN
Diffuse large Bcell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common pathological type of nonHodgkin's lymphoma. Although the development of monoclonal antibodies, smallmoleculetargeted drugs and novel chemotherapeutic agents, and the increased use of immunotherapy have markedly improved the outcomes of DLBCL, ~40% of patients cannot be cured following the use of standardized firstline treatment. In addition, the specific mechanisms of drug resistance and potential factors associated with a poor prognosis in these patients remain unclear. Proteomics research is used to determine potential associations between changes in DLBCL protein expression levels and different stages of disease occurrence and development. Proteomics may aid in the identification of novel molecular mechanisms and drug resistance mechanisms, through identifying multiple associated proteins and monitoring changes in expression levels. Thus, proteomics research may exhibit potential in the development of therapeutic targets and in improving prognostic evaluation in patients with DLBCL. The present study aimed to review the use of proteomic methods for the investigation of DLBCL, including the mechanisms underlying disease progression and drug resistance in DLBCL, and the function of the tumor microenvironment in lymphoma growth. The present review also demonstrated the potential of proteomicguided therapeutic strategies for DLBCL and discussed the synergistic benefits of using proteomic methods in DLBCL research.

Heavy metal pollution in farmland soil represents a considerable risk to ecosystems and human health, constituting a global concern. Focusing on a key area for the cultivation of special agricultural products in Cangxi County, we collected 228 surface soil samples. We analyzed the concentration, spatial distribution, and pollution levels of six heavy metals (Cr, Cu, Pb, Ni, Zn, and Hg) in the soil. Moreover, we investigated the sources and contribution rates of these heavy metals using Principal Component Analysis/Absolute Principal Component Scores (PCA/APCS) and Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) models. Our findings indicate that none of the six metals exceeded the pollution thresholds for farmland soils. However, the mean concentrations of Cr and Ni surpassed the background levels of Sichuan Province. A moderate spatial correlation existed between Pb and Ni, attributable to both natural and anthropogenic factors, whereas Zn, Cu, Hg, and Cr displayed a strong spatial correlation, mainly due to natural factors. The spatial patterns of Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb, and Ni were similar, with higher concentrations in the northern and eastern regions and lower concentrations centrally. Hg's spatial distribution differed, exhibiting a broader range of lower values. The single pollution index evaluation showed that Cr and Ni were low pollution, and the other elements were no pollution. The average value of comprehensive pollution index is 0.994, and the degree of pollution is close to light pollution. Predominantly, higher pollution levels in the northern and eastern regions, lower around reservoirs. The PCA/APCS model identified two main pollution sources: agricultural traffic mixed source (65.2%) and natural parent source (17.2%). The PMF model delineated three sources: agricultural activities (32.59%), transportation (30.64%), and natural parent sources (36.77%). Comparatively, the PMF model proved more accurate and reliable, yielding findings more aligned with the study area's actual conditions.

BACKGROUND: 18F-FDG PET/CT is performed for the assessment of radioactive iodine non-avid disease in patients with DTC. In patients prepared by THW, increased pituitary uptake of 18F-FDG in the absence of pituitary disease may reflect the physiological activation of pituitary thyrotroph cells by hypothyroidism. This study aimed to compare pituitary 18F-FDG uptake in patients with DTC under THW vs. rhTSH stimulation. METHODS: A total of 57 patients with DTC undergoing 18F-FDG PET/CT (40 under THW and 17 under rhTSH stimulation) were retrospectively analyzed. Pituitary metabolism was expressed as maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and as SUVratio using the right cerebellum as reference. RESULTS: Pituitary hypermetabolism (SUVmax ≥ 4.1) was present in more patients in the THW group compared to the rhTSH group (62.5% vs. 23.5%; p = 0.01). Pituitary metabolism was significantly higher in the THW group compared to the rhTSH group, as assessed by either SUVmax (mean ± SD: 4.61 ± 1.22, 95%CI: 4.22-5.00 vs. 3.34 ± 0.86, 95%CI: 2.9-3.8; p < 0.001) or SUVratio (0.52 ± 0.11, 95%CI: 0.49-0.56 vs. 0.42 ± 0.07, 95%CI: 0.38-0.46; p < 0.001). Serum TSH levels correlated positively with SUVmax (r = 0.41, p < 0.01) and SUVratio (r = 0.44, p < 0.01) in the THW group only. CONCLUSIONS: The present findings support the hypothesis that pituitary hypermetabolism on 18F-FDG PET/CT in patients with DTC undergoing THW is a common physiological response to hypothyroidism. Awareness of this physiological hypermetabolism is important to avoid potential pitfalls in image interpretation.
RESUMEN
Fluorescence nanothermometry based on quantum dots is a current research hotspot for novel non-contact temperature monitoring, and is of vital significance for the modulation and design of the sensing properties of sensors. Herein, a design strategy to modulate the temperature-sensing characteristics of quantum dots based on the thickness of a shell is proposed. In this study, CdSe/ZnS quantum dot/POSS-based temperature probe films with varying fluorescence characteristics were developed, and the influence of the ZnS shell on temperature sensing was examined by varying the thickness of the ZnS shell. The temperature dependency, linearity, range of applications, and reversibility of quantum dot thin film probes were all considerably regulated by the ZnS shell, according to research on quantum dot/POSS-based films coated with various shell thicknesses. The CdSe/ZnS temperature probe with 4 monolayers (MLs) stood out among the rest due to its strong thermal stability (at least 5 cycles), large usable temperature range (20-80 °C), and excellent temperature sensitivity (R2 > 0.994). The results demonstrated that the temperature sensing performance of quantum dots was the consequence of the combined effect of multiple temperature response properties induced by the thickness of the shell, and the shell control of quantum dots to optimize the temperature sensing performance was an essential approach for the design of temperature probes. This work demonstrates the great potential of the shell in tuning the temperature sensing performance of quantum dots and provides a viable approach for the design of quantum dot temperature probes.

The phosphorus-containing reagents have been proposed to remediate the uranium contaminated sites due to the formation of insoluble uranyl phosphate mineralization products. However, the colloids, including both pseudo and intrinsic uranium colloids, could disturb the environmental fate of uranium due to its nonnegligible mobility. In this work, the transport pattern and micro-mechanism of uranium coupled to phosphate and illite colloid (IC) were investigated by combining column experiments and micro-spectroscopic evidences. Results showed that uranium transport was facilitated in granular media by forming the intrinsic uranyl phosphate colloid (such as Na-autunite) when the pH > 3.5 and CNa+ < 10 mM. Meanwhile, the mobility of uranium depended greatly on the typical water chemistry parameters governing the aggregation and deposit of intrinsic uranium colloids. However, the attachment of phosphate on illite granule increased the repulsive force and enhanced the dispersion stability of IC in the IC-U(VI)-phosphate ternary system. The non-preequilibrium transport and retention profiles, HRTEM-mapping, as well as TRLFS spectra revealed that the IC enhanced uranium mobility by forming the ternary IC-uranyl phosphate hybrid, and acted as the coagulation preventing agent for uranyl phosphate particles. This observed facilitation of uranium transport resulted from the formation of intrinsic uranyl phosphate colloids and IC-uranyl phosphate hybrids should be taken into consideration when evaluating the potential risk of uranium migration and optimizing the in-situ mineralization remediation strategy for uranium contaminated environmental water.

Three undescribed sesquiterpenes, designed as pichinenoid A-C (1-3), along with nine known ones (4-12) were isolated from the stems and leaves of Picrasma chinensis. The new isolates including their absolute configurations were elucidated based on extensive spectroscopic methods, single crystal X-ray diffraction, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) experiments, as well as comparison with literature data. Structurally, compounds 1 and 2 are descending sesquiterpenes, while pichinenoid C (3) is a rare sesquiterpene bearing a 2-methylenebut-3-enoic acid moiety at the C-6 side chain. All the isolated compounds were tested for their neuroprotective effects against the H2O2-induced damage on human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells, and most of them showed moderate neuroprotective activity. Especially, compounds 1, 3-5, and 7 showed a potent neuroprotective effect at 25 or 50 µM. Moreover, the neuroprotective effects of compounds 1 and 4 were tested on a 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced Parkinson's disease (PD) mouse model. Results of western blot and immunofluorescence indicated that compound 4 significantly counteract the toxicity of MPTP, and reversed the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) in substantia nigra (SN) and striatum (ST) of the mouse brain. Interestingly, western blot data suggested compound 4 also enhanced B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) and heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1) expressions in the brain tissues from MPTP damaged mouse.
