RESUMEN

As a highly aggressive tumor, the pathophysiological mechanism of primary liver cancer has attracted much attention. In recent years, factors such as ferroptosis regulation, lipid peroxidation and metabolic abnormalities have emerged in the study of liver cancer, providing a new perspective for understanding the development of liver cancer. Ferroptosis regulation, lipid peroxidation and metabolic abnormalities play important roles in the occurrence and development of liver cancer. The regulation of ferroptosis is involved in apoptosis and necrosis, affecting cell survival and death. Lipid peroxidation promotes oxidative damage and promotes the invasion of liver cancer cells. Metabolic abnormalities, especially the disorders of glucose and lipid metabolism, directly affect the proliferation and growth of liver cancer cells. Studies of ferroptosis regulation and lipid peroxidation may help to discover new therapeutic targets and improve therapeutic outcomes. The understanding of metabolic abnormalities can provide new ideas for the prevention of liver cancer, and reduce the risk of disease by adjusting the metabolic process. This review focuses on the key roles of ferroptosis regulation, lipid peroxidation and metabolic abnormalities in this process.

Hairy tofu is a famous Chinese snack that is made from soybeans and rich in various nutrients. In order to further explore the antioxidant peptides of hairy tofu hydrolysates, seven proteases were used to hydrolyze hairy tofu. The results of in vitro radical scavenging activity showed that hairy tofu hydrolysates obtained by pancreatin exhibited the highest antioxidant activity. After Sephadex G-25 gel filtration and reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC), 97 peptides were identified in the most antioxidant fraction using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Among them, nine peptides were synthesized and their antioxidant activities were assessed using a H2O2-induced oxidative 293T cell model. Finally, four peptides (QCESHK, LAWNEGR, NLQGENEWDQK, and FTEMWR) at concentrations of < 50 µg/ml significantly decreased the malondialdehyde content compared with the model group, displaying in vivo antioxidant activity and low cytotoxicity. Overall, this research provided the choice of using hairy tofu peptides as antioxidant products in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

The aim of this study was to investigate the muscle fiber types and meat quality in four populations and estimate the heritability and correlation coefficients of those traits in Shanxia long black pig (SX). In this study, a total of 318 pigs were recorded for 16 traits of the muscle fiber types and meat quality in four populations, including 256 individuals from the new breed SX. The population had a significant effect on all recorded traits, and the meat quality of the Lulai black pig was better than the remaining populations. The heritability (h2 ) of meat quality traits was from 0.06 (pH at 24 h) to 0.47 (shearing force), and the muscle fiber types belonged to the traits with low to medium heritability. The density of total fiber had the highest h2 (0.40), while the percentage of type IIA had the lowest h2 (0.04). Most traits are phenotypically correlated with each other, but only a small proportion of traits are genetically correlated with each other. None fiber type genetically correlated with meat quality significantly, because the genetic correlation coefficients had large standard errors. These results provided some insights into genetic improvements for the meat quality in pig breeds and also indicated that the parameters of muscle fiber characteristics can explain parts of the variation in meat quality.

BACKGROUND: Oguchi disease is a rare autosomal recessive form of congenital quiescent night blindness. Oguchi disease has been found to be associated with gene mutations in SAG and GRK1, which are vital factors in the recovery phase of phototransduction after light stimuli. We report a case of Oguchi disease with novel heterozygous mutations in SAG. CASE PRESENTATION: A 7-year-old girl with a history of night blindness since childhood, was referred to our hospital. Ophthalmologic examinations included visual acuity, fundus examinations, fundus photography, spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, electroretinographic (ERG). Mutation screening of the SAG and GRK1 genes was performed. This patient exhibited typical clinical characteristics of Oguchi disease, including night blindness, golden fundus with the Mizuo-Nakamura phenomenon, packed structure of the parafovea in optical coherence tomography and reduced a-waves and b-waves in scotopic 3.0 ERG. Genetic testing revealed a heterozygous change in nucleotide c.72_75+15delATCGGTGAGTGGTGCACAA in exon 2 of the SAG gene in this patient, her unaffected mother and younger brother. A splicing alteration of nucleotide c.376-2A>C was identified in exon 6 of the SAG gene with heterozygous status in this patient and her unaffected father. CONCLUSIONS: Compound heterozygosity of a nonsense p.S25X mutation in exon 2 and a splicing alteration in exon 6 of the SAG gene is the cause of this patient with Oguchi type 1 disease in China.

The distribution and source of mercury (Hg) and zinc (Zn) in surface sediments from East China Sea (ECS) were studied using stable isotopes. Hg concentrations in surface sediments varied from 12.6 to 133.2 ng g-1. Zn concentrations ranged between 45.9 and 133.6 ng g-1. Hydrodynamic circulation and sedimentary process within the ECS were the dominant factors controlling the distribution and fate of heavy metals, referring from relationships of Hg and Zn concentrations and total organic carbon (TOC) and clay contents. Spatial variations in Hg isotopic compositions (δ202Hg) were observed in the ECS, with δ202Hg ranging from -1.86 to -0.83‰ and Δ199Hg ranging from -0.07 to +0.26‰. The high δ202Hg values and relatively negative Δ199Hg values in estuarine and inner shelf sites indicated that the riverine inputs from Yangtze River played an important role in delivering Hg to ECS. In contrast, Hg isotopic signatures in outer shelf sediments had relatively low δ202Hg and positive Δ199Hg, implying that atmospheric Hg deposition could be relatively dominant source for Hg. Moreover, application of zinc isotopes to trace anthropogenic sources has been tested, with δ66Zn ranging from 0.20 to 0.67‰. The results showed significant variations of δ66Zn in the ECS, implying that Zn isotope compositions can be tracers of anthropogenic sources. Using these Hg isotope compositions, the source attributions of sediments in ECS were estimated based on a mixing model, suggesting that river-dominated inputs, discharging pollutants from industrial sources, and atmospheric deposition could dominate in the occurrence and fate of Hg in sediments of ECS.

In order to investigate the historical records of lead contamination and source in coastal region of Haizhou Bay, Yellow Sea, a sediment core was collected from tidal flat, dated by (210)Pb and (137)Cs. Lead and its stable isotopic ratios were determined. The profiles of enrichment factor (EF) and Pb isotope ratios showed increasing trend upward throughout the core, correlating closely with the experience of a rapid economic and industrial development of the catchment. According to Pb isotopic ratios, coal combustion emission mainly contributed to the Pb burden in sediments. Based on end-member model, coal combustion emission dominated anthropogenic Pb sources in recent decades contributing from 48% to 67% in sediment. And the contribution of leaded gasoline was lower than 20%. A stable increase of coal combustion source was found in sediment core, while the contribution of leaded gasoline had declined recently, with the phase-out of leaded gasoline in China.

The history records of lead and its stable isotopic ratios were determined in a sediment core to receive anthropogenic impacts on the Lake Hailing in eastern China. The sediment core was dated based on (210)Pb, (137)Cs, and (239+240)Pu. The historical changes of Pb/Al and Pb isotope ratios showed increasing trend upward throughout the core, suggesting changes in energy usage and correlating closely with the experience of a rapid economic and industrial development of the catchment, Linyi City, in eastern China. Based on the mixing end member model of Pb isotope ratios, coal combustion emission dominated anthropogenic Pb sources in the half part of the century contributing 13 to 43 % of total Pb in sediment. Moreover, contributions of chemical and organic fertilizer were 1-13 and 5-14 %, respectively. In contrast, the contribution of leaded gasoline was low than 8 %. The results indicated that historical records of Pb contamination predominantly sourced from coal combustion and chemical and organic fertilizer in the catchment. In addition, an increase of coal combustion source and fertilizers was found throughout the sediment core, whereas the contribution of leaded gasoline had declined after 2000s, which is attributed to the phaseout of leaded gasoline in China.
