RESUMEN

This study was designed to assess in vitro the effects of Thiopental alone and Thiopental--Dobutamine association on control and on Diltiazem pretreated papillary muscle. The Diltiazem treatment do not increase the negative inotropic effect of Thiopental but the effect of Dobutamine is less important in pretreated group. The Diltiazem treatment protect to arrhythmogenic action of Thiopental and Thiopental-Dobutamine association.

RESUMEN

The pharmacokinetic properties of propofol given at a constant rate, were studied in 10 children. Propofol was administered at a dose according to I.C.I. Pharma advices. For minor surgery, a low quality of general anesthesia was observed in correlation with low plasma levels of propofol. An increase in dosage would be necessary in children above 8 years old.

RESUMEN

The influence of 15 day's amiodarone administration (30 mg/kg/day) on myocardial uptake kinetics and electrocardiographic changes of disopyramide was examined on the isolated perfused rabbit heart (n = 24) under electrical stimulation. Amiodarone significantly reduced myocardial uptake and potentialized the effect of disopyramide on intraventricular conduction.

RESUMEN

Forty patients more than 65 years old were anaesthetized with propofol for cataract surgery. Patients were divided into two groups: those intubated after topical oropharyngeal anaesthesia and those intubated after muscle relaxation obtained with suxamethonium. Induction and maintenance of anaesthesia were carried out with 2.5 mg . kg-1 and 4 mg . kg-1 . h-1 respectively. Concurrent use of muscle relaxants had no effect on the action and characteristics of the general anaesthesia or recovery. Relative bradycardia (7%) and arterial hypotension (25%) occurred rapidly following induction and continued during the entire period of anaesthesia despite the systematic infusion of 500 ml of electrolyte solutions. Recovery was extremely rapid. The original Glasgow score was obtained within 20 min. The only negative side-effects were generally late occurring (4-6 h): postanaesthetic nausea or vomiting. Otherwise, tolerance was excellent. Use of propofol was ideal for this type of surgery due to its strong and durable ocular hypotensive effect.

RESUMEN

The contamination of air of a 50 m3 operating room has been analyzed after three and half hours of halothane enaesthesia with a closed circle system and an opened system. The analysis has been made by gaz chromatography. Concentrations of Halothane found during the use of an opened system are 100 to 120 times the allowable norms in U.S.A. After using the closed circle system, the analysis of air does not reveale any trace of Halothane.

RESUMEN

Abnormalities of lipid metabolism have never been shown in human leptospirosis. A prospective study of plasma lipids was performed in 10 consecutive patients with leptospirosis. Significant increase of triglycerides with low levels of the high-density lipoproteins and cholesterol fraction was observed in 8 patients. Electrophoresis of lipoproteins showed a fusion of beta and pre-beta lipoproteins and a marked decrease of alpha lipoproteins. The respective role of bacteria, liver and kidney could be suggested to explain these abnormalities of lipoproteins in leptospirosis.

RESUMEN

An anti-heart immune serum (IS) has been tested to prevent digitalis intoxication in guinea-pig atrial and papillary muscle. The results show a good protector effect of the IS against the cardiotoxic effects of digitoxin. The hypothesis of an interaction between the IS and the affinity binding sites of the cardiotonic glycosides can be retained.

RESUMEN

The object of Halothane Meter (HM) study is to estimate its reliability (accuracy and stability) and its possible effect on the degradation of the molecule by the action of the UV (254 nm). The zero instability of the apparatus, clinically evident, is due to the constructor who undertakes to modify it. The molecule analysis, treated in vivo (4 hours of anesthesia) and in vitro by irradiation respectively by the HM (cathodeon 254 nm) and a source of some wavelength UV is realised by UV spectrophotometry, IR spectrophotometry, RMN spectrometry. The results of all analysis allow to exclude the molecule degradation which could impede the recirculation of treated gas in a closed circle.

RESUMEN

Among twenty six patients who have got tetanus the movement of the IgG, IgA, IgM, the serum complement, the number of B end T lymphocytes do not change in a significant way during the illness. There is no abnormally that could be considered as a consequence or a favorable factor of tetanus. In a group of patients being vaccinated against tetanus it has been given evidence that the specific antibodies develop much later than in a group of non vaccinated blood givers. Such an abnormal response can be found also in a third group of individuals without tetanus but whose ages in the average are comparable to these of the patients (69 years old). Thus, it seems not to be connected with tetanus itself but with the old ages of the patients.

RESUMEN

The technic of intermittent mandatory ventilation assures automatically a fraction of ventilatory cycles on a patient who has a spontaneous ventilation. This mechanism used in medical and surgical resuscitation, on twenty one patients of different age-group, has allowed the objectivation of the following elements: - the clinical and the analysis of gaz results are found to be satisfactory at the end of the first hour; - one the contrary from then on, the results tend to differ on the basis of the periods of misadaptation which are more or less long and frequent. Looking after such a ventilatory devise demands as much intensing attention as that of any other artificial ventilation.

RESUMEN

The authors report a case of fatal pancytopenia associated with sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim therapy in a patient with folic acid deficiency. The mechanism is a matter of speculation, but the most attractive view is that the inhibiting effect of trimethoprim on dehydrofolate reductase can involve pancytopenia in patients with folic acid deficiency.
