BACKGROUND: This study aimed to explore the effects of the titanium dioxide (TiO2) concentration and particle size in hydrogen peroxide (HP) on tooth bleaching effectiveness and enamel surface properties. METHODS: TiO2 at different concentrations and particle sizes was incorporated into 40% HP gel to form an HP/TiO2 gel. The specimens were randomly divided into 8 groups: C1P20: HP + 1% TiO2 (20 nm); C3P20: HP + 3% TiO2 (20 nm); C5P20: HP + 5% TiO2 (20 nm); C1P100: HP + 1% TiO2 (100 nm); C3P100: HP + 3% TiO2 (100 nm); C5P100: HP + 5% TiO2 (100 nm); C0: HP with LED; and C0-woL: HP without LED. Bleaching was conducted over 2 sessions, each lasting 40 min with a 7-day interval. The color differences (ΔE00), whiteness index for dentistry (WID), surface microhardness, roughness, microstructure, and composition were assessed. RESULTS: The concentration and particle size of TiO2 significantly affected ΔE00 and ΔWID values, with the C1P100 group showing the greatest ΔE00 values and C1P100, C3P100, and C5P100 groups showing the greatest ΔWID values (p < 0.05). No significant changes were observed in surface microhardness, roughness, microstructure or composition (p > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Incorporating 1% TiO2 with a particle size of 100 nm into HP constitutes an effective bleaching strategy to achieve desirable outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Although liver metabolic dysfunction has been found to potentially elevate susceptibility to cognitive impairment and dementia, there is still insufficient evidence to explore the non-linear association of liver enzymes with cognitive performance. Therefore, we aimed to elucidate the non-linear relationship between liver enzymes and cognitive performance. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, 2764 individuals aged ≥ 60 who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHANES) between 2011 and 2014 were included. The primary data comprised liver enzyme levels (alkaline phosphatase (ALP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), AST/ALT ratio, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT)), and cognitive performance was the major measured outcome. The associations were analyzed using weighted multivariate logistic regression, subgroup analysis, a generalized additive model, smooth fitting curves, and threshold effects. RESULTS: The results of the fully adjusted model indicated that ALP was negatively associated with the animal fluency test (AFT) score (OR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.11-1.98), whereas ALT demonstrated a positive association with the consortium to establish a registry for Alzheimer's disease (CERAD) test score (OR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.53-0.97). Additionally, the AST/ALT ratio was negatively associated with the global cognitive test (OR = 2.39, 95% CI: 1.53-3.73), CERAD (OR = 2.61, 95% CI: 1.77-3.84), and digit symbol substitution test (DSST) scores (OR = 2.51, 95% CI: 1.57-4.02). GGT was also negatively associated with the AFT score (OR = 1.16, 95% CI: 1.01-1.33) in unadjusted model. A non-linear relationship was observed between liver enzymes and the risk of cognitive impairment as assessed by the global cognitive test. Specifically, when ALP > 60 U/L, 0.77 < AST/ALT < 1.76, and 25 < GGT < 94 U/L, higher liver enzyme levels were significantly associated with an elevated cognitive impairment risk, while a lower cognitive impairment risk when ALT level was > 17 U/L. CONCLUSIONS: There is a non-linear relationship between liver enzymes and cognitive performance, indicating that liver enzyme levels should be maintained within a certain level to mitigate the risk of cognitive impairment.

BACKGROUND: Clinical evidence suggests that Esketamine (ESK) is an effective treatment for depression. However, the effects of Esketamine in treating depression-like behavior induced by neuropathic pain is unclear. The underlying molecular mechanisms require further investigation to provide new therapeutic targets for the treatment of clinical neuropathic pain-related depression. METHODS: A neuropathic pain-related depression model was established in rats with spared nerve injury (SNI). Male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups: Sham Group, SNI group, SNI + Normal Saline (NS) Group and SNI + ESK5mg/kg Group. Mechanical pain thresholds were measured to assess pain sensitivity in SNI rats. On the 14th day after surgery a forced swim test and sucrose preference test were used to evaluate the depressive-like behavior of rats in each group. Further, a proteomic analysis was used to quantify differentially expressed proteins. The Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways were analyzed to explore the main protein targets of SNI in the medial prefrontal cortex. The expression of proteins was detected by Western blotting. RESULTS: A neuropathic pain-related depression model was established. Compared with the Sham group, the mechanical pain threshold was decreased significantly (13.2 ± 1.0 vs. 0.7 ± 0.01 g n = 8), while immobility on the forced swim test was also decreased (93.1 ± 7.4 vs. 169.5 ± 9.6 s n = 8), and sucrose preference rate was significantly increased (98.8 ± 0.3 vs. 73.1 ± 1.4n = 7) in SNI group rats. Compared with the SNI + NS group, the mechanical pain threshold was not statistically significant, while immobility on the forced swim test was clearly decreased (161.1 ± 11.6 vs. 77.9 ± 5.0 s n = 8), and sucrose preference rate was significantly increased (53.1 ± 8.9 vs. 96.1 ± 1.4n = 7) in SNI + ESK5mg/kg group rats. To further investigate the underlying mechanism, we employed proteomics to identify proteins exhibiting more than a 1.2-fold difference (P < 0.05) in expression levels within each group for subsequent analysis. Relative to the Sham group, 88 downregulated and 104 up-regulated proteins were identified in the SNI group, while 120 and 84 proteins were up- and down-regulated in the Esketamine treatment group compared with the SNI + NS group. Compared with Sham group, the expressions of mGluR5 and Homer1a were up-regulated in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) in SNI group (mGluR5:0.97 ± 0.05 vs 1.47 ± 0.15, Homer1a:1.03 ± 0.06 vs 1.46 ± 0.16n = 6), and down-regulated after intervention with Esketamine (mGluR5:1.54 ± 0.11 vs 1.06 ± 0.07, Homer1a:1.51 ± 0.13 vs 1.12 ± 0.34n = 6). CONCLUSIONS: Low-dose Esketamine appeared to relieve depression-like behavior induced by neuropathic pain. The Homer1a-mGluR5 signaling pathway might be the mechanism of antidepressant effect of Esketamine.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: While repurposing waste materials into zirconia blocks presents a promising avenue, uncertainty remains regarding whether the bonding properties of recycled zirconia align with those of commercially available zirconia. PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the bonding affinity and durability of composite resin to recycled zirconia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A series of processing steps were performed with recycled zirconia residuals (Lava Plus; 3M Oral Care), including pulverization, sieving, heating, compaction, isostatic pressing, and presintering. The presintered blocks of recycled zirconia (Group R) and commercially available zirconia (Group C) were sectioned and sintered to create test specimens (10×10×1.5 mm). After polishing and airborne-particle abrasion, specimens within each group were bonded to composite resin cylinders using a resin cement (Multilink Speed; Ivoclar AG). The specimens were then divided into 3 subgroups for shear bond strength (SBS) testing: no further treatment, 10 000 thermocycles, and 30 000 thermocycles (n=10). X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), surface roughness, and contact angle were used to analyze the surface physicochemical differences between Groups C and R. Data were analyzed with 2-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey post hoc test for SBS values, Pearson chi-squared test for failure modes, and independent t test for grain size, surface roughness, and wettability (α=.05). RESULTS: No significant difference was found in the SBS values between Group R and Group C (P=.403), while thermocycling significantly affected the SBS values (P<.05). Group R showed significantly greater Ra, Rz, and Rq values (P<.05) than did Group C. SEM analysis revealed that Group R exhibited more prominent grooves than Group C, while the XRD and EDS patterns exhibited similarities in both the crystalline phase and elemental composition. No significant difference was observed in the water contact angle between the 2 groups (P=.196). CONCLUSIONS: The bonding protocol established for commercially available zirconia was comparable with that of recycled zirconia, but both decreased after thermocycling. The recycling process did not affect the crystalline phase or elemental composition of the zirconia, but it induced alterations in the surface roughness.

Exploiting high-performance magnetic beads for specific enrichment of ribonucleic acid (RNA) has important significance in the biomedical research field. Herein, a simple strategy was proposed for fabricating boronate-decorated polyethyleneimine-grafted magnetic agarose beads (BPMAB), which can selectively isolate cis-diol-containing substances through boronate affinity. The size of the basic magnetic agarose beads was controlled through the emulsification of the water-in-oil emulsion with a high-speed shear machine, which enhanced the specific surface area of BPMAB. Subsequently, to modify more boronic acid ligands, branched PEI with excellent hydrophilicity and numerous reaction sites was grafted. 2,4-Difluoro-3-formylphenyl boronic acid (2,4-DFPBA) was covalently immobilized for selectively capturing cis-diol-containing substances under physiological condition (pH 7.4). The BPMAB with a diameter range from 1.86 µm to 11.60 µm possessed clearly spherical structure, and excellent magnetic responsiveness and suspension ability in aqueous solution. ß-Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (ß-NAD), a short-chain cis-diol carrying agent, was selected as a target molecule for evaluating the adsorption property of BPMAB and the maximum adsorption capacity of BPMAB for ß-NAD could reach 205.11 mg g-1. In addition, the BPMAB as adsorbent was used to selectively enrich RNA from mammalian cells. The maximum adsorption capacity of BPMAB for RNA was 140.50 mg g-1. Under optimized conditions, the BPMAB-based MSPE successfully enriched the high-quality total RNA with 28S to 18S ribosomal RNA ratios ranging from 2.06 to 2.16. According to the PCR analysis of GADPH gene, the extracted total RNA was successfully reverse transcribed into cDNA. Therefore, we believe that the BPMAB-based MSPE could be applicable for the specific enrichment of RNA from complex biological systems.

Pollutants often exist as mixtures in environmental settings, creating a challenge in selecting the most effective combination of biomarkers for routine monitoring. This study was conducted seasonally in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, to compare the responses of nine biomarkers in the green-lipped mussel Perna viridis with respect to its tissue levels of persistent organic pollutants and heavy metals. Multivariate statistical techniques were utilised to determine the single best predictor and optimal subset of biomarkers in P. viridis for each of the four scenarios: representing overall biomarker responses in the dry season, and wet season, as well as correlating tissue levels of mixed pollutants in the dry season, and wet season. Our findings recommend lysosomal destabilisation, and the nucleic acid ratio of RNA to DNA, as the core biomarkers in P. viridis for marine pollution monitoring. The non-specificity of these biomarkers allows effective identification of pollution hotspots and guides further detailed assessment.

PURPOSE: To investigate the association between lifestyle and atypical antipsychotic drug use in patients with schizophrenia and the risk of constipation and to assess the impact of anxiety and depressive symptoms on constipation risk. METHODS: Cross-sectional convenience sampling was employed, and 271 participants aged 20-65 were enrolled. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire comprising participants' demographic data, medication information, dietary behavior assessment, and the Baecke Physical Activity Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory-II, and Beck Anxiety Inventory. IBM SPSS 24.0 with multivariate logistic regression was used for data analysis. We performed a subgroup analysis of anticholinergic drugs via multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: In total, 180 participants had functional constipation; risk factors included female sex, anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and quetiapine and aripiprazole use. Patients who drank more than 3,000 cc of water daily or used risperidone were less likely to have functional constipation. Depressive and anxiety symptoms were risk factors even after adjusting for sex, use of anticholinergics and laxatives, consuming two servings of fruit, consuming three servings of vegetables, consuming more than 3,000 cc of water daily, physical activity, medical comorbidity, chlorpromazine equivalent dose, and atypical antipsychotic use. Similar associations were found for two affective symptoms and functional constipation in the subgroup analysis of anticholinergic drugs. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of functional constipation in patients with schizophrenia was 66.4%. The risk factors included female sex, anticholinergics, aripiprazole, quetiapine, and depressive and anxiety symptoms. Risperidone users and those who drank 3000 cc of water daily were less likely to have constipation.

BACKGROUND: Evaluating the risk of relapse is a pivotal step in the treatment of patients with methamphetamine use disorder (MUD). The 30-item Stimulant Relapse Risk Scale (SRRS) was originally developed in Japan to meet the demand. This study examined the reliability, validity, and factor structure of the Chinese version of the SRRS for patients with MUD. METHODS: 247 patients with MUD self-rated the Chinese version of the SRRS. Cronbach's alpha coefficients and inter-item correlation analysis were used to assess the internal consistency reliability. Construct validity was determined through confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and concurrent validity was examined using the visual analogue scale (VAS) for drug craving and the severity of dependence scale (SDS). We followed the participants for 1 year and assessed the predictive validity based on the correlation of the scores of the Chinese version of the SRRS with the relapse rate within 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up. RESULTS: CFA revealed satisfactory model fit estimates for the 22-item Chinese version of the SRRS that consisted of four subscales. The four-factored 22-item Chinese version of the SRRS had adequate internal consistency with Cronbach's alphas ranging from 0.76 to 0.92. The 22-item Chinese version of the SRRS scores were significantly correlated with the VAS and SDS scores as well as the relapse rate within 3, 6, and 12 months, indicating good concurrent and predictive validity of this scale. The receiver operating characteristic curve revealed a cutoff score of 40 could discriminate between participants with (SDS score ≥ 4) and without (SDS score < 4) methamphetamine dependence (area under the curve = 0.71, p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The 22-item Chinese version of the SRRS that consists of four subscales is a valid and reliable instrument to assess the relapse risk in patients with MUD.

The advancement of the Penaeus vannamei industry in a sustainable manner necessitates the creation of eco-friendly and exceptionally effective feed additives. To achieve this, 720 similarly-sized juvenile shrimp (0.88 ± 0.02 g) were randomly divided into four groups in this study, with each group consisting of three replicates, each tank (400 L) containing 60 shrimp. Four experimental diets were formulated by adding 0, 500, 1000, and 1500 mg kg-1 glycerol monolaurate (GML) to the basal diet, and the feeding trial lasted for 42 days. Subsequently, a 72-h White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV) challenge test was conducted. Polynomial orthogonal contrasts analysis revealed that with the increase in the concentration of GML, those indicators related to growth, metabolism and immunity, exhibit linear or quadratic correlations (P < 0.05). The results indicate that the GML groups exhibited a significant improvement in the shrimp weight gain rate, specific growth rate, and a reduction in the feed conversion ratio (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the GML groups promoted the lipase activity and reduced lipid content of the shrimp, augmented the expression of triglyceride and fatty acid decomposition-related genes and lowered the levels of plasma triglycerides (P < 0.05). GML can also enhanced the humoral immunity of the shrimp by activating the Toll-like receptor and Immune deficiency immune pathways, improved the phagocytic capacity and antibacterial ability of shrimp hemocytes. The challenge test revealed that GML significantly reduced the mortality of the shrimp compared to control group. The 16S rRNA sequencing indicates that the GML group can increases the abundance of beneficial bacteria. However, 1500 mg kg-1 GML adversely affected the stability of the intestinal microbiota, significantly upregulating intestinal antimicrobial peptide-related genes and tumor necrosis factor-alpha levels (P < 0.05). In summary, 1000 mg kg-1 GML was proven to enhance the growth performance, lipid absorption and metabolism, humoral immune response, and gut microbiota condition of P. vannamei, with no negative physiological effects.

The use of invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) is crucial in rescuing patients with respiratory dysfunction. Accurately predicting the demand for IMV is vital for clinical decision-making. However, current techniques are invasive and challenging to implement in pre-hospital and emergency rescue settings. To address this issue, a real-time prediction method utilizing only non-invasive parameters was developed to forecast IMV demand in this study. The model introduced the concept of real-time warning and leveraged the advantages of machine learning and integrated methods, achieving an AUC value of 0.935 (95% CI 0.933-0.937). The AUC value for the multi-center validation using the AmsterdamUMCdb database was 0.727, surpassing the performance of traditional risk adjustment algorithms (OSI(oxygenation saturation index): 0.608, P/F(oxygenation index): 0.558). Feature weight analysis demonstrated that BMI, Gcsverbal, and age significantly contributed to the model's decision-making. These findings highlight the substantial potential of a machine learning real-time dynamic warning model that solely relies on non-invasive parameters to predict IMV demand. Such a model can provide technical support for predicting the need for IMV in pre-hospital and disaster scenarios.

The major symptoms of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) are low back pain, radiative lower extremity pain, and lower limb movement disorder. Patients with LDH suffer from great distress in their daily life accompanied by severe economic hardship and difficulty in self-care, with an increasing tendency in the aging population. PubMed and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched for relevant studies of spontaneous resorption or regression in LDH after conservative treatment and for other potential studies, which included those from inception to June 30, 2023. The objective of this narrative review is to summarize previous literatures about spontaneous resorption in LDH and to discuss the mechanisms and influencing factors in order to assess the probability of spontaneous resorption by conservative treatment. Spontaneous resorption without surgical treatment is influenced by the types and sizes of the LDH, inflammatory responses, and therapeutic factors. If the lumbar disc herniated tissue comprises a higher percentage of cartilage or modic changes have been shown on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), resorption in LDH is prevented. The bull's eye sign on enhanced MRI, which is a ring enhancement around a protruding disc, is a vital indicator for easy reabsorption. In addition, the type of extrusion and sequestration in LDH could forecast the higher feasibility of natural reabsorption. Moreover, the higher the proportion of protrusion on the intervertebral disc tissue within the spinal canal, the greater the likelihood of reabsorption. Therefore, which illustrates the feasibility of conservative treatments for LDH. Nonsurgical management of LDH with clinical symptoms is recommended by the authors.

INTRODUCTION: Children and adolescents, after natural and man-made disasters, often exhibit various psychological, emotional, and behavioral issues, showing a range of clinical symptoms related to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression. This review used a network meta-analysis (NMA) approach to compare and rank psychological interventions for PTSD and depression in children and adolescents after exposure to natural and man-made disasters. METHODS: Randomized studies of psychosocial interventions for PTSD and depression in children and adolescents exposed to natural and man-made disasters were identified. PTSD and depression symptoms at postintervention and 1-12 month follow-up are the outcomes. The standardized mean differences (SMDs) between pairs of interventions at postintervention and follow-up were pooled. Mean effect sizes with 95% credible intervals (CI) were calculated, and the ranking probabilities for all interventions were estimated using the surface under the cumulative ranking curve. Study quality was assessed with version 2 of the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool for randomized trials (RoB 2). RESULTS: In total, 26 studies with 4331 participants were included in this NMA. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) (SMD = - 0.67; 95% CI - 1.17 to - 0.17), exposure therapy (ET) (SMD = - 0.66; 95% CI - 1.11 to - 0.22), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) (SMD = - 0.62; 95% CI - 0.90 to - 0.34) were significantly more effective for PTSD at postintervention than inactive intervention. EMDR (SMD = - 0.72; 95% CI - 1.11 to - 0.33) and ET (SMD = - 0.62; 95% CI - 0.97 to - 0.27) were associated with a higher reduction in PTSD symptoms at follow-up than inactive intervention. EMDR (SMD = - 0.40; 95% CI - 0.78 to - 0.03) and play therapy (PT) (SMD = - 0.37; 95% CI - 0.62 to - 0.12) were significantly more effective for depression at postintervention than inactive intervention. For all psychological interventions in reducing depression symptoms at follow-up compared with inactive intervention, the differences were not significant. CONCLUSION: EMDR appears to be most effective in reducing PTSD and depression in children and adolescents exposed to natural and man-made disasters. In addition, ET and CBT are potentially effective in reducing PTSD symptoms at postintervention, while PT is beneficial in managing depression symptoms at the treatment endpoint.

INTRODUCTION: To determine risk factors associated with postoperative cerebrospinal fluid leaks (CSFLs) after intrathecal drug delivery system (IDDS) and external pump implantation. METHODS: The clinical data of 248 patients with advanced cancer who underwent IDDS implantation from January 2021 to December 2022 at the Department of Pain Medicine at the Hunan Cancer Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Information regarding age, gender, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), tumour type, albumin levels, haemoglobin levels, history of diabetes and pre- and postoperative anti-tumour therapy was collected and analysed. RESULTS: Postoperative CSFLs occurred in 7 of 231 patients (3.30%). Statistical analysis indicated that gender, age, height, weight, BMI, tumour type, albumin levels, haemoglobin levels, history of diabetes, pre- and postoperative chemotherapy, pre- and postoperative radiotherapy, preoperative immunotherapy and postoperative targeted therapy were not independent factors for CSFLs. Preoperative targeted therapy [odds ratio (OR): 16.64; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.42, 195.56; P = 0.01] and postoperative immunotherapy (OR: 13.38; 95% CI: 1.60, 111.65; P = 0.017) were factors associated with an increased postoperative CSFL rate. Of the two locations where CSFLs can occur, the back (puncture site of catheter, n = 4) and the hypochondriac region (location of infusion port implanted, n = 3), back CSFLs occurred earlier than in the hypochondriac region (18.25 ± 6.45 vs 115 ± 62.02 days, P = 0.032). CONCLUSION: Based on the data from our study, the timing of preoperative targeted therapy and postoperative immunotherapy should be considered to prevent the occurrence of CSFLs in cancer pain patients who have an IDDS and external pump.

Cardiac discomfort has been reported periodically in COVID-19-vaccinated individuals. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the role of myocardial strains in the early assessment of the clinical presentations after COVID-19 vaccination. Totally, 121 subjects who received at least one dose of vaccine within 6 weeks underwent laboratory tests, electrocardiogram (ECG), and echocardiogram. Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) was implemented to analyze changes in the left ventricular myocardium. After vaccination, 66 individuals (55.4 ± 17.4 years) developed cardiac discomforts, such as chest tightness, palpitations, dyspnea, and chest pain. The ECG readings exhibited both premature ventricular contractions and premature atrial contractions (n = 24, 36.4%), while none of the individuals in the control group manifested signs of cardiac arrhythmia. All had normal serum levels of creatine phosphokinase, creatine kinase myocardial band, troponin, N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide, platelets, and D-dimer. Left ventricular ejection fraction in the symptomatic group (71.41% ± 7.12%) and the control group (72.18% ± 5.11%) (p = 0.492) were normal. Use of 2D-STE presented global longitudinal strain (GLS) and global circumferential strain (GCS) was reduced in the symptomatic group (17.86% ± 3.22% and 18.37% ± 5.22%) compared to the control group (19.54% ± 2.18% and 20.73% ± 4.09%) (p = 0.001 and p = 0.028). COVID-19 vaccine-related cardiac adverse effects can be assessed early by 2D-STE. The prognostic implications of GLS and GCS enable the evaluation of subtle changes in myocardial function after vaccination.

Numerous previous studies have shown the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing cognitive functions in patients with dementia. Despite this, robust evidence in this field, especially concerning the comparison of different music therapy types, is lacking. Therefore, randomized controlled trials (RCTs) focusing on music therapy and cognitive functions in dementia patients, termed by "music" AND "dementia" OR "Alzheimer's disease" AND "cognitive", were identified from primary electronic databases to conduct this network meta-analysis (NMA). The primary outcome focused on the impact on cognitive functions, and the secondary outcome was the comparison of dropout rates between the intervention groups and the usual care control groups. Standardized mean difference (SMD) values and the corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed for effect evaluation. This study protocol has been registered in IPLASY (INPLASY202430082). A total of 14 RCTs with 1056 participants were enrolled, examining interventions including Active Music Therapy (AMT), Active Music Therapy with Singing (AMT + Sing), Rhythmic Music Therapy (RMT), Listening to Music (LtM), and Singing (Sing). The results indicated that RMT, AMT + Sing, and AMT all significantly improve cognitive functions in dementia patients, of which the SMD were 0.76 (95% CI = 0.32-1.21), 0.79 (95% CI = 0.03-1.49), and 0.57 (0.18-0.96), respectively. Compared with the control group (usual care), no music therapy type was associated with an increased dropout risk. In conclusion, music therapy can improve cognitive functions in patients with dementia without increasing the risk of dropout, particularly RMT, AMT + Sing, and AMT.

The significant volume change experienced by silicon (Si) anodes during lithiation/delithiation cycles often triggers mechanical-electrochemical failures, undermining their utility in high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we propose a sub micro-nano-structured Si based material to address the persistent challenge of mechanic-electrochemical coupling issue during cycling. The mesoporous Si-based composite submicrospheres (M-Si/SiO2/CS) with a high Si/SiO2content of 84.6 wt.% is prepared by magnesiothermic reduction of mesoporous SiO2submicrospheres followed by carbon coating process. M-Si/SiO2/CS anode can maintain a high specific capacity of 740 mAh g-1at 0.5 A g-1after 100 cycles with a lower electrode thickness swelling rate of 63%, and exhibits a good long-term cycling stability of 570 mAh g-1at 1 A g-1after 250 cycles. This remarkable Li-storage performance can be attributed to the synergistic effects of the hierarchical structure and SiO2frameworks. The spherical structure mitigates stress/strain caused by the lithiation/delithiation, while the internal mesopores provide buffer space for Si expansion and obviously shorten the diffusion path for electrolyte/ions. Additionally, the amorphous SiO2matrix not only servers as support for structure stability, but also facilitates the rapid formation of a stable solid electrolyte interphase layer. This unique architecture offers a potential model for designing high-performance Si-based anode for LIBs.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is characterized by rapid onset and high chance of metastasis. Therefore, identification of novel therapeutic targets is imperative. E26 transformation-specific homologous factor (EHF), a member of the E26 transformation-specific transcription factor family, plays a pivotal role in epithelial cell differentiation and cancer progression. However, its precise role in CCA remains unclear. In this study, through in vitro and in vivo experiments, we demonstrated that EHF plays a profound role in promoting CCA by transcriptional activation of glioma-associated oncogene homolog 1 (GLI1). Moreover, EHF significantly recruited and activated tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) through the C-C motif chemokine 2/C-C chemokine receptor type 2 (CCL2/CCR2) axis, thereby remodeling the tumor microenvironment. In human CCA tissues, EHF expression was positively correlated with GLI1 and CCL2 expression, and patients with co-expression of EHF/GLI1 or EHF/CCL2 had the most adverse prognosis. Furthermore, the combination of the GLI1 inhibitor, GANT58, and CCR2 inhibitor, INCB3344, substantially reduced the occurrence of EHF-mediated CCA. In summary, our findings suggest that EHF is a potential prognostic biomarker for patients with CCA, while also advocating the therapeutic approach of combined targeting of GLI1 and CCL2/CCR2-TAMs to inhibit EHF-driven CCA development.

Fibroblast growth factor receptor 2 (FGFR2) represents an appealing therapeutic target for multiple cancers, yet no selective FGFR2 inhibitors have been approved for clinical use to date. Here, we report the discovery of a series of new selective, irreversible FGFR2 inhibitors. The representative compound LHQ490 potently inhibited FGFR2 kinase activity with an IC50 of 5.2 nM, and was >61-, >34-, and >293-fold selective against FGFR1, FGFR3, and FGFR4, respectively. LHQ490 also exhibited high selectivity in a panel of 416 kinases. Cell-based studies revealed that LHQ490 efficiently suppressed the proliferation of BaF3-FGFR2 cells with an IC50 value of 1.4 nM, and displayed >70- and >714-fold selectivity against BaF3-FGFR1 and the parental BaF3 cells, respectively. More importantly, LHQ490 potently suppressed the FGFR2 signaling pathways, selectively inhibited FGFR2-driven cancer cell proliferation, and induced apoptosis of FGFR2-driven cancer cells. Taken together, this study provides a potent and highly selective FGFR2 inhibitor for further development of FGFR2-targeted therapeutic agents.
