RESUMEN

The gyromagnetic factor of the low-lying E=251.96(9) keV isomeric state of the nucleus ^{99}Zr was measured using the time-dependent perturbed angular distribution technique. This level is assigned a spin and parity of J^{π}=7/2^{+}, with a half-life of T_{1/2}=336(5) ns. The isomer was produced and spin aligned via the abrasion-fission of a ^{238}U primary beam at RIKEN RIBF. A magnetic moment |µ|=2.31(14)µ_{N} was deduced showing that this isomer is not single particle in nature. A comparison of the experimental values with interacting boson-fermion model IBFM-1 results shows that this state is strongly mixed with a main νd_{5/2} composition. Furthermore, it was found that monopole single-particle evolution changes significantly with the appearance of collective modes, likely due to type-II shell evolution.

RESUMEN

We propose a system named AIGNET (Algorithms for Inference of Genetic Networks), and introduce two top-down approaches for the inference of interrelated mechanism among genes in genetic network that is based on the steady state and temporal analyses of gene expression patterns against some kinds of gene perturbations such as disruption or overexpression. The former analysis is performed by a static Boolean network model based on multi-level digraph, and the latter one is by S-system model. By integrating these two analyses, we show our strategy is flexible and rich in structure to treat gene expression patterns; we applied our strategy to the inference of a genetic network that is composed of 30 genes as a case study. Given the gene expression time-course data set under the conditions of wild-type and the deletion of one gene, our system enabled us to reconstruct the same network architecture as original one.

RESUMEN

A 48-year-old female presented with vertiginous feeling and behavior disturbance. Computed tomography showed an arachnoid cyst on the left cerebral convexity. Single photon emission computed tomography revealed decreased cerebral blood flow (CBF) in the left frontal lobe. The Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised test demonstrated memory dysfunction. The arachnoid cyst was partially removed. Disturbances in CBF and behavior disappeared postoperatively. Local ischemia induced by compression due to arachnoid cyst may cause memory dysfunction and behavior disturbance. Neuropsychometric examination is useful for the evaluation of such symptoms.

RESUMEN

A 27-year-old male presented with memory loss. With magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), enhanced masses on the right side of hypothalamus, right side of anterior basal ganglia, and left side of hypothalamus were found. Histological analysis of the tumor by stereotactic biopsy proved it to be a germinoma. When related to the map of the thalamic nuclei, the tumor involved anterior column of the fornix and anterior nuclei of the thalamus. Neuropsychological tests prior to radiation therapy disclosed only short-term memory disturbance. The patient received radiation therapy to a total dose of 55 Gy to the primary lesion. After the completion of radiation therapy, the enhanced effect disappeared on gadolinium enhanced T1-weighted MRI. Single photon emission computed tomography indicated improvement in blood flow in the anterior portion of the bilateral thalami. Neuropsychological tests after radiation therapy showed improvement in short-term memory compared with baseline. Test results have remained stable for two and half years. This case indicates the possibility of improvement in memory function by treatment for tumor when it involves part of Papez circuit. Nevertheless, a decrease in intellectual ability by irradiation remains the major problem. Better approaches not only for cure but also to reduce the late effects should be undertaken when radiation therapy is the treatment of choice.

RESUMEN

BEST-KIT is an efficient and user-friendly "biochemical engineering system analyzing tool-kit" integrated the following key modules: 1) mathematical modeling and editing of reaction-scheme, 2) automatic derivation of differential equations, 3) numerical calculation, 4) nonlinear optimization, 5) visualization, 6) retrieve the information on reaction mechanism and kinetic parameters from data-base of metabolic pathways. The users of this simulator are assumed to be unfamiliar with computer technology and with computer programming. The integrated interface (UNIX version) is based on Xlib, XToolkit and OSF/Motif Widget.
