RESUMEN

In this study, multivesicular liposomes (MVLs) were prepared by microfluidic technology and used for delivering gastrodin (GAS), a water-soluble drug, across the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The formulations and preparation parameters in preparing gastrodin multivesicular liposomes (GAS-MVLs) were both optimized. Some properties of GAS-MVLs including morphology, particle size, encapsulation efficiency, and in vitro release were evaluated. An in vitro BBB model was established by coculturing mouse brain endothelial cells (bEnd.3) and astrocytes (C8-D1A). The permeability of GAS-MVLs across the BBB model was evaluated. Finally, the permeability of GAS-MVLs across BBB was evaluated by in vivo pharmacokinetics in mice. The concentrations of GAS in the blood and brain were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and then brain-targeting efficiency (BTE), relative uptake rate (Re), and peak concentration ratio (Ce) were calculated. The results showed that, using a Y-type microfluidic chip and setting the flow rate ratio of the second aqueous phase to the W/O emulsion phase at 23, with a total flow rate of 0.184 m/s, the prepared GAS-MVLs showed an obvious multivesicular structure and a relatively narrow distribution of particle sizes. The prepared GAS-MVLs were spherical with a dense structure. The average particle size was 2.09 ± 0.17 µm. The average encapsulation rate was (34.47 ± 0.39)%. The particle size of MVLs prepared by the microfluidic method was much smaller than that prepared by the traditional method, which was usually larger than 10 µm. After 6 h from the beginning of the administration, the apparent transmittance of GAS-MVLs in the in vitro BBB model was 67.71%, which was 1.92 times higher than that of the GAS solution. In vivo pharmacokinetic study showed that the intracerebral area under curve (AUC) of GAS-MVLs was 5.68 times higher than that of the GAS solution, and the e peak concentration (Cmax) was 2.036 times higher than that of the GAS solution. BTE was 1.945, intracerebral Re was 5.688, and Ce was 2.036. Both in vitro and in vivo experiment results showed that GAS-MVLs prepared by microfluidic technology in this study significantly delivered GAS across BBB and enriched GAS in the brain. It provides a possibility for brain-targeting delivery of GAS in the prevention and treatment of central nervous system diseases by oral administration and lays the foundation for further development of oral brain-targeted preparations of GAS.

RESUMEN

AIMS: Participants with cardiovascular diseases (CVD) often exhibit liver function abnormalities, hepatic fibrosis and cirrhosis. The extent of liver fibrosis is closely related to the prognosis of CVD. However, the association between the liver fibrosis-8 (FIB-8) index, a marker of liver fibrosis, and all-cause mortality in CVD participants remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the FIB-8 index and all-cause mortality among individuals with CVD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 1727 CVD American participants were enrolled from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 1999 to 2018. Initially, we constructed weighted COX regression models and performed sensitivity analyses to examine the correlation between the FIB-8 index and all-cause mortality in CVD participants. Subsequently, we employed restricted cubic spline (RCS) to visualize their linear relationship. Finally, the stratified analyses and interaction tests of covariates were performed and presented in the forest plot. RESULTS: A total of 1727 participants were included in our study, with a mean age of 61.68 ± 0.47 years, with men accounting for 59.19%. After adjustment for relevant covariables, weighted COX regression models indicated that the hazard ratio (HR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for the association between the FIB-8 index and all-cause mortality in CVD participants was 1.21 (1.12, 1.30). Sensitivity analysis was then conducted, revealing that the results remained stable. In fully adjusted model, individuals in quartiles 3 and 4 demonstrated significant statistical differences compared to the lowest FIB-8 index quartile, with HR (95% CI) values of 1.88 (1.23, 2.87) and 2.17 (1.33, 3.53), respectively. Subsequently, RCS showed a linear relationship between the FIB-8 index and all-cause mortality among CVD participants. Finally, the interaction test revealed that no other covariables had significant interactions with the FIB-8 index in this study. CONCLUSIONS: A positive and linear correlation was observed between the FIB-8 index and all-cause mortality among CVD adult participants in NHANES from 1999 to 2018. Our findings indicated that the FIB-8 index could serve as an excellent indicator for assessing all-cause mortality within the CVD population. The lower the FIB-8 index, the lower the all-cause mortality among CVD participants.

RESUMEN

The purpose of this study was to develop a nomogram using hemogram inflammatory markers to predict the risk of infertility in patients with varicocele (VC). Patients with VC from March 2022 to June 2024 were retrospectively investigated. We divided the patients into two groups based on their fertility status. A total of 162 patients were enrolled: 81 in the infertile group and 81 in the fertile group. Statistical differences were observed between the two groups in lymphocyte, monocyte, erythrocyte, red cell distribution width (RDW), mean erythrocyte volume (MCV), mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet distribution width (PDW), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), MPV/platelet ratio (MPVPR), and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) (p < .05). The 162 patients were divided into a modeling cohort and a validation cohort in a 7:3 ratio. A predictive nomogram was constructed based on independent influencing factors identified through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis were used to assess the model's performance. Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that erythrocyte count, PDW, NLR, and SIRI were independent influencing factors. The area under the curve for the nomogram predicting the risk of infertility in patients with VC was 0.869 in the validation cohort. The nomogram demonstrated good predictive performance. In this study, we developed an effective predictive nomogram for assessing the risk of infertility in VC patients using inflammatory markers. However, further external validation is crucial.

RESUMEN

Some skin wounds often have many exudate. Ordinary single layer electrospunning nanofiber wound dressings often don't have enough capacity to absorb them. Therefore, a separable double layer electrospunning nanofiber dressing was developed in this work. The dressing had a separable feature that allowed the upper layer to be separated and removed after it had absorbed a significant amount of wound exudate. This dressing consisted of an upper layer of super hydrophilic sodium polyacrylate nanofibers and a bottom layer of 3D-structure coaxial nanofibers with encapsulated Astragaloside (AS). The results showed that nanofibers had better morphology. The water absorption rate, water vapor transmission rate and free radical scavenging rate of the double-layer dressings were 1461.71 ±â€¯39.72 %, 1193.63 ±â€¯134 g·m-2·day-1, and 63.35 ±â€¯3.65 %, respectively. The double-layer nanofiber dressing achieved 65.69 ±â€¯2.62 % and 75.10 ±â€¯6.26 % inhibition against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, respectively. The double-layer dressing had proliferative, migratory, and adhesive effects on L929 fibroblasts. And the double-layer dressing resulted in a 96.78 ±â€¯1.0 % wound healing rate in rats after giving a 14 days treatment. Therefore, the 3D-structure separable double-layer wound dressing designed and prepared in this study was effective in promoting wound healing.

RESUMEN

Varicocele (VC) is the most frequent and reversible cause of male infertility. One of the preferred management strategies to alleviate this problem is varicocelectomy. However, there are no researchers who have explored the relationship between better timing and postoperative sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) improvement in patients. We conducted this meta-analysis by enrolling published studies to find out the best waiting time after varicocelectomy to wait for better improvement of sperm DFI. A literature search was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases. The data from the pooled analysis were presented as mean difference (MD) along with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Heterogeneity was evaluated using I2. Four studies were included after screening relevant literature. Statistical analysis revealed that after varicocelectomy, follow-up results within 3 months showed a significant improvement in sperm DFI compared with the preoperative period (MD: -3.66, 95% CI = [-5.17, -2.14], p < .00001), and follow-up results with 6 months showed a significant improvement in sperm DFI compared with the postoperative 3 months as well (MD: -1.51, 95% CI = [-2.73, -0.29], p = .02). Notably, no further improvement in sperm DFI was observed when the follow-up period reached 12 months (MD: -1.59, 95% CI = [-3.22, 0.05], p = .06). Six months after varicocelectomy may be the optimal time for sperm DFI compared with 12 months or even longer, which means it is also the preferable time for conception. However, more well-designed prospective studies are needed in the future to validate our conclusion.

RESUMEN

Ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO) is a rare but treatable cause of male infertility. This case report describes a 28-year-old male with obstructive azoospermia. The patient came to our hospital after a fertility check-up revealed azoospermia. A subsequent semen analysis confirmed azoospermia. Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed bilaterally enlarged seminal vesicles and thickened, calcified ejaculatory duct walls. The patient underwent transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and transurethral resection of the ejaculatory ducts (TURED) for presumed partial EDO. Despite two transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy and TURED procedures, postoperative semen analysis still showed azoospermia. TRUS indicated non-contractile seminal vesicles and an unobstructed ejaculatory duct. The patient ultimately underwent percutaneous epididymal sperm aspiration for assisted reproductive technology and his spouse got pregnant. We identified a case of azoospermia caused by a rare combination of partial and functional ejaculatory duct obstruction. There are currently no reports of similar cases. This case report aims to provide valuable insights for diagnosing and treating EDO.

RESUMEN

Pelvic fracture is a serious injury, which has a profound impact on sexual function due to concurrent nervous and urethral injuries. In this case report, we describe a 29-year-old single man who had retrograde ejaculation as a result of a pelvic fracture-related posterior urethral stricture. The patient wanted to improve his ejaculatory ability after experiencing urethral stricture for 8 years and retrograde ejaculation for 3 years following the pelvic fracture. We precisely located and measured the patient's urethral stricture using a retrograde urethrogram, and we used transrectal color Doppler ultrasound to track the patient's ejaculation process in real time. Next, we used urethral balloon dilatation to relieve the urethral stricture. Urinary obstruction symptoms have completely resolved, and the patient was able to urinate without any obstructions. Meanwhile, the real-time transrectal color Doppler ultrasound result showed that some semen might ejaculate externally by passing through the initial stricture area, while some semen continued to flow retrogradely into the bladder.

RESUMEN

Our research focused on the integration of Flammulina velutipes soluble dietary fiber (Fv-SDF) into wheat flour during the production of dried noodles, delving into the impact of different addition ratios of Fv-SDF on both dough processing characteristics and the quality of the micro-fermented dried noodles. The viscometric and thermodynamic analyses revealed that Fv-SDF notably improved the thermal stability of the mix powder, reduced viscosity, and delayed starch aging. Additionally, Fv-SDF elevated the gelatinization temperature and enthalpy value of the blend. Farinograph Properties and dynamic rheology properties further indicated that Fv-SDF improved dough formation time, stability time, powder quality index, and viscoelasticity. Notably, at a 10% Fv-SDF addition, the noodles achieved the highest sensory score (92) and water absorption rate (148%), while maintaining a lower dry matter loss rate (5.2%) and optimal cooking time (142 s). Gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) analysis showed that 67 volatile substances were detected, and the contents of furfural, 1-hydroxy-2-acetone, propionic acid, and 3-methylbutyraldehyde were higher in the Fv-SDF 10% group. These 10% Fv-SDF micro-fermented noodles were not only nutritionally enhanced, but also had a unique flavor. This study provides a valuable theoretical basis for the industrial application of F. velutipes and the development of high-quality dried noodles rich in Fv-SDF.

RESUMEN

Transcranial photoacoustic computed tomography presents challenges in human brain imaging due to skull-induced acoustic aberration. Existing full-wave image reconstruction methods rely on a unified elastic wave equation for skull shear and longitudinal wave propagation, therefore demanding substantial computational resources. We propose an efficient discrete imaging model based on finite element discretization. The elastic wave equation for solids is solely applied to the hard-tissue skull region, while the soft-tissue or coupling-medium region that dominates the simulation domain is modeled with the simpler acoustic wave equation for liquids. The solid-liquid interfaces are explicitly modeled with elastic-acoustic coupling. Furthermore, finite element discretization allows coarser, irregular meshes to conform to object geometry. These factors significantly reduce the linear system size by 20 times to facilitate accurate whole-brain simulations with improved speed. We derive a matched forward-adjoint operator pair based on the model to enable integration with various optimization algorithms. We validate the reconstruction framework through numerical simulations and phantom experiments.

RESUMEN

The onset of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) is strongly associated with persistent infection caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV). ZiGongDing (ZGD), a traditional Chinese medicine, has progressed to clinical application in HPV-induced CIN treatment, yet the underlying mechanism remains unclear. The objective of this paper is to explore the mechanism of ZGD in treating HPV-induced CIN by integrating a combination of network pharmacology and experimental validation. The active ingredients and targets of ZGD were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP) database. CIN-related targets were sourced from GeneCards and the Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) database. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) and functional enrichment analyses were conducted to determine the potential molecular mechanism. The herb-active ingredient-target network was constructed by Cytoscape software. To further validate the therapeutic mechanism, molecular docking and in vitro experiments were performed. In this study, we identified 60 active ingredients in ZGD and 46 common targets in of CIN treatment. The PPI network analysis revealed estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) as a pivotal target in ZGD against CIN. Functional enrichment analysis showed that the estrogen signaling pathway was mostly enriched, and ESR1 was involved. The herb-active ingredient-target network and relative literature identified cnidimol B as the primary active ingredient. Molecular docking demonstrated a strong binding affinity between ESR1 and cnidimol B. Cellular experiments revealed that cnidimol B could significantly decrease the viability of HeLa and CaSki cells. Moreover, the expression of ESR1 was notably upregulated in HeLa and CaSki cells after treatment with cnidimol B. Our study proposes a novel mechanism underlying ZGD against CIN, which involves the modulation of ESR1. This insight lays a solid foundation for further exploring and optimizing ZGD's therapeutic potential.

RESUMEN

EGFR-TKIs have been used as frontline treatment in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) suffering from the EGFR mutation. Gefitinib, the first-generation EGFR-TKI, has greatly improved survival rates in lung cancer patients, whereas acquired gefitinib resistance is still a critical issue that needs to be overcome. In our research, high expression levels of CIB2 were found in gefitinib-resistant lung cancer cells. CIB2 knockout rendered gefitinib-resistant cells more sensitive to gefitinib, and overexpression of CIB2 in parental cells was sufficient to induce more resistance to gefitinib. Inhibition of CIB2 in gefitinib-resistant lung cancer cells significantly induced cell apoptosis. To clarify the major molecular mechanism by which CIB2 increases gefitinib resistance, we demonstrated that raised CIB2 in lung cancer cells promoted epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) through upregulation of ZEB1. Moreover, FOSL1 transcriptionally regulated CIB2 expression. Finally, CIB2 rendered tumors resistant to gefitinib treatment in vivo. Our results explored a new mechanism: upregulated CIB2 promoted EMT through ZEB1 to regulate gefitinib resistance, which could be a candidate therapeutic target for overcoming acquired resistance to EGFR-TKIs in NSCLC patients.

RESUMEN

Fertilization significantly affects the growth and development of wheat. However, the precise mechanisms underlying gene regulation during flowering in response to fertilization deficiency remain elusive. In this study, fertilization (F) and non-fertilization (CK) ) treatments were set up to reveal examine the effect of fertilization on the photosynthetic capacity of winter wheat during the flowering period through physiological, biochemical, and transcriptome analyses. Upon analyzing analysing their yield, leaf photosynthetic system exchange parameters during flowering, antioxidant enzyme activity, and endogenous hormone parameters, we found that the F treatment resulted in higher net photosynthetic rates during flowering periods than the CK treatment. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) (83.92%), peroxidase (POD) (150.75%), and catalase (CAT) (22.74%) activities of leaves in treated with F during the flowering period were notably elevated compared to those of CK-treated leaves. Abscisic acid (ABA) (1.86%) and gibberellin acid (GA3) (33.69%) levels were reduced, whereas Auxin auxin (IAA) (98.27%) content was increasedwas increased under F treatment compared to those the results under the CK treatment. The chlorophyll a (32.53%), chlorophyll b (56%), total chlorophyll (37.96%), and carotenoid contents (29.80%) under F treatment were also increased compared to CK., exceeded exceeding those obtained under the CK treatment. Furthermore, transcriptional differences between the F and CK conditions were analyzed, and key genes were screened and validated by using q-PCR. Transcriptome analysis identified 2281 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), with enriched pathways related to photosynthesis and light harvesting. DEGs were subjected to cluster simulation, which revealed that 53 DEGS, both up- and down-regulated, responded to the F treatment. qRT-PCR-based validation confirmed the differential expression of genes associated with carbohydrate transport and metabolism, lipid transport, and signal transduction. This study revealed distinctive transcriptional patterns and crucial gene regulation networks in wheat during flowering under fertilization, providing transcriptomic guidance for the precise regulation of wheat breeding.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To explore the relationship between Red cell distribution width/albumin ratio (RAR) and vascular complications, including atherosclerosis of the lower limbs, diabetic nephropathy(DN), and diabetic retinopathy(DR), in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). Patients and Methods: The study included 427 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who were hospitalized in the Department of Endocrinology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University (Guangzhou, China) between April 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023. Baseline characteristics were displayed according to the quartiles of the RAR. Logistic regression analysis and receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) were used to analyze the data. Results: After adjusting for confounders, a higher RAR quartile(the fourth quartile) was associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis of the lower limbs(OR: 2.973, 95% CI 1.281-6.906, p = 0.011), and diabetic nephropathy(OR: 2.876, 95% CI 1.315-6.287, p = 0.008) compared to the lowest RAR quartile. The patients were further divided into two groups according to urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR≥30mg/g and UACR < 30mg/g) and Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR<60 mL·min⁻¹ (1.73 m²) ⁻¹ and eGFR≥60 mL·min⁻¹ (1.73 m²) ⁻¹). Similar results were observed. However, We found that RAR quartile did not significantly increase the likelihood of developing diabetic retinopathy(OR: 1.183, 95% CI 0.633-2.211, p = 0.598). Conclusion: The RAR ratio is associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis of the lower limbs and diabetic nephropathy in patients with T2DM. The RAR ratio may be an important clinical marker of vascular complications in T2DM.

RESUMEN

Short texts on social platforms often suffer from insufficient emotional semantic expressions, sparse features, and polysemy. To enhance the accuracy achieved by sentiment analysis for short texts, this paper proposes an emoji-based multifeature fusion sentiment analysis model (EMFSA). The model mines the sentiments of emojis, topics, and text features. Initially, a pretraining method for feature extraction is employed to enhance the semantic expressions of emotions in text by extracting contextual semantic information from emojis. Following this, a sentiment- and emoji-masked language model is designed to prioritize the masking of emojis and words with implicit sentiments, focusing on learning the emotional semantics contained in text. Additionally, we proposed a multifeature fusion method based on a cross-attention mechanism by determining the importance of each word in a text from a topic perspective. Next, this method is integrated with the original semantic information of emojis and the enhanced text features, attaining improved sentiment representation accuracy for short texts. Comparative experiments conducted with the state-of-the-art baseline methods on three public datasets demonstrate that the proposed model achieves accuracy improvements of 2.3%, 10.9%, and 2.7%, respectively, validating its effectiveness.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between breastfeeding duration and neurodevelopment in children aged 2 to 3 years in a Chinese population. METHODS: This study was based on a cross-sectional survey. The data were from the National Nutrition and Health Systematic Survey for children in China which was conducted from 2019 to 2020. Characteristics of parents and children and the breastfeeding duration were obtained using interview-administered questionnaires. Children's neuropsychological development was assessed by a trained child health care physician using the Child Psychological Development Scale. A multivariable linear regression model was used to analyze the association between breastfeeding duration and neuropsychological development. RESULTS: A total 1290 children aged 2-3 years were included in the present analysis. In multivariable linear regression models, after adjustment for potential confounders, children who were breastfed for 7-12 months had a 3.59-point increase in gross motor development (ß = 3.59; 95 % confidence interval [CI]: 1.23 to 6.34), a 3.73-point increase in fine motor development (ß = 3.73; 95 % CI: 1.09 to 6.47), and a 2.87-point in language development (ß = 2.87; 95 % CI: 1.12 to 5.31) compared with those who were never breastfed. Children who were breastfed for > 12 months had a 3.77-point increase in fine motor development (ß = 3.77; 95 % CI: 0.98 to 6.86) compared with those who were never breastfed. CONCLUSIONS: Longer breastfeeding duration was associated with increased gross motor, fine motor, and language scores in our study population. Mothers in China should be encouraged to initiate and continue breastfeeding.

RESUMEN

The creation of carbonaceous nanoparticles and their dynamics in hydrocarbon flames are still debated in environmental, combustion, and material sciences. In this study, we introduce single-pulse femtosecond laser sheet-compressed ultrafast photography (fsLS-CUP), an ultrafast imaging technique specifically designed to shed light on and capture ultrafast dynamics stemming from interactions between femtosecond lasers and nanoparticles in flames in a single-shot. fsLS-CUP enables the first-time real-time billion frames-per-second (Gfps) simultaneous two-dimensional (2D) imaging of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and laser-induced heating (LIH) that are originated from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and soot particles, respectively. Furthermore, fsLS-CUP provides the real-time spatiotemporal map of femtosecond laser-soot interaction as elastic light scattering (ELS) at an astonishing 250 Gfps. In contrast to existing single-shot ultrafast imaging approaches, which are limited to millions of frames per second only and require multiple laser pulses, our method employs only a single pulse and captures the entire dynamics of laser-induced signals at hundreds of Gfps. Using a single pulse does not change the optical properties of nanoparticles for a following pulse, thus allowing reliable spatiotemporal mapping. Moreover, we found that particle inception and growth are derived from precursors. In essence, as an imaging modality, fsLS-CUP offers ultrafast 2D diagnostics, contributing to the fundamental understanding of nanoparticle's inception and broader applications across different fields, such as material science and biomedical engineering.

RESUMEN

Photocatalysis is one of the most effective ways to solve environmental problems by solving pollutants. This article designed and prepared a conjugated system of 2,4,6-triaminopyrimidine-g-C3N4 (TAP-CN) to modify ZnO NWs. We systematically studied the photocatalytic performance of ZnO NWs modified with different ratios of TAP-CN. The results showed that 9 wt% TAP-CN-30/ZnO NWs had the best degradation effect on Rhodamine B dye. The degradation rate was 99.36% in 80 min. The excellent degradation performance was attributed to the TAP-CN conjugated system promoting photo-generated charge transfer. RESUMEN

RATIONALE: Congenital sensorineural hearing loss is a significant global health issue, primarily driven by genetic factors, such as mutations in the GJB2 gene. This report presents a Chinese girl with congenital deafness and a novel mutation of the GJB2 gene. PATIENT CONCERNS: A newborn Chinese girl exhibited signs of congenital deafness. DIAGNOSIS: Congenital deafness was confirmed through comprehensive newborn hearing screenings that included otologic, audiologic, and physical examinations. Genetic analysis revealed a compound heterozygous mutation involving c.188delT and c.235delC in the GJB2 gene, indicating a genetic basis for her hearing loss. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent cochlear implantation, which resulted in stable auditory outcomes. OUTCOMES: Despite follow-up difficulties, stable auditory outcomes were achieved post-cochlear implantation, highlighting the potential efficacy of this intervention in GJB2-related hearing loss. LESSONS: This case study enriches our understanding of GJB2 mutations and underscores the critical role of genetic testing in diagnosing congenital sensorineural hearing loss. It emphasizes the necessity for early intervention and sustained interdisciplinary care to enhance the quality of life for patients with genetic hearing impairment.

RESUMEN

Multi-Modal Entity Alignment (MMEA), aiming to discover matching entity pairs on two multi-modal knowledge graphs (MMKGs), is an essential task in knowledge graph fusion. Through mining feature information of MMKGs, entities are aligned to tackle the issue that an MMKG is incapable of effective integration. The recent attempt at neighbors and attribute fusion mainly focuses on aggregating multi-modal attributes, neglecting the structure effect with multi-modal attributes for entity alignment. This paper proposes an innovative approach, namely TriFac, to exploit embedding refinement for factorizing the original multi-modal knowledge graphs through a two-stage MMKG factorization. Notably, we propose triplet-aware graph neural networks to aggregate multi-relational features. We propose multi-modal fusion for aggregating multiple features and design three novel metrics to measure knowledge graph factorization performance on the unified factorized latent space. Empirical results indicate the effectiveness of TriFac, surpassing previous state-of-the-art models on two MMEA datasets and a power system dataset.
