RESUMEN

Background: The incidence of muscle atrophy or sports injuries is increasing with time and population aging, thereby attracting considerable attention to muscle generation research. Muscle satellite cells, which play an important role in this process, lack comprehensive literature regarding their use for muscle regeneration. Hence, this study aimed to analyze the hotspots and trends in satellite cell research from 2010 to 2023, providing a reference for muscle regeneration research. Methods: Studies on satellite cells' role in muscle regeneration from 2010 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, we analyzed annual publications, authors and co-citing authors, countries and institutions, journals and co-citing journals, co-citing references, and keywords. Results: From 2010 to 2023, 1468 papers were retrieved, indicating an overall increasing trend in the number of annual publications related to satellite cells in muscle regeneration. The United States had the highest number of publications, while the Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale was the institution with the most publications. Among journals, " PloS One" had the highest number of published papers, and "Cell" emerged as the most co-cited journal. A total of 7425 authors were involved, with Michael A. Rudnicki being the author with the highest number of publications and the most co-cited author. The most cited reference was "Satellite cells and the muscle stem cell niche." Among keywords, "satellite cells" was the most common, with "heterogeneity" having the highest centrality. Frontier themes included "Duchenne muscular dystrophy," "skeletal muscle," "in-vivo," "muscle regeneration," "mice," "muscle atrophy," "muscle fibers," "inflammation," " mesenchymal stem cells," and "satellite cell." Conclusion: This study presents the current status and trends in satellite cell research on muscle regeneration from 2010 to 2023 using bibliometric analyses, providing valuable insights into numerous future research directions.

RESUMEN

Sarcopenic obesity (SO) is a metabolic disorder with increasing prevalence. It is characterized by a reduction in skeletal muscle mass and strength. Resveratrol (RSV) is one of the most frequently used herbs in the treatment of skeletal muscle atrophy. However, the precise mechanism of the action of RSV in SO remains unclear. The objective of this study was to examine the pharmacological mechanism of RSV in the context of SO through the lens of network pharmacology, to validate these findings through in vivo experimentation. A list of potential RSV targets was compiled by retrieving the data from multiple databases. This list was then cross-referenced with a list of potential targets related to SO. The intersections of RSV- and SO-related targets were analyzed using Venn diagrams. To identify the core genes, a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of the intersection targets was constructed and subsequently analyzed. Molecular docking was used to predict RSV binding to its core targets. A high-fat diet was used to induce SO in mice. These findings indicated that RSV may prevent SO by acting on 11 targets. Among these, interleukin-6 (IL-6), C-reactive protein (CRP), and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) are considered core targets. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment results indicated that the anti-SO effect of RSV was predominantly linked to metabolic disease-related pathways, including those associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. The anti-inflammatory effects of RSV were confirmed in vivo in an SO mouse model. This study contributes to a more comprehensive understanding of the key mechanisms of the action of RSV against SO and provides new possibilities for drug development in the pathological process of SO.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Keen Osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common chronic disabling disease characterized by joint pain and dysfunction, which seriously affects patients' quality of life. Recent studies have shown that transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) was a promising treatment for KOA. PURPOSE: Investigate the effects of tDCS on pain and physical function in patients with KOA. METHODS: Randomized controlled trials related to tDCS and KOA were systematically searched in the PubMed, Embase, Medline, Cochrane Library, CINHL, and Web of Science databases from inception to July 23, 2024. The pain intensity was evaluated using the visual analog scale or the numeric rating scale, and the pain sensitivity was assessed using conditioned pain modulation, pressure pain threshold, heat pain threshold, or heat pain tolerance. The physical function outcome was evaluated using the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index or the Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score. Statistical analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.4. RESULTS: Seven studies with a total of 503 participants were included. Compared to sham tDCS, tDCS was effective in reducing the short-term pain intensity (SMD: -0.58; 95% CI: -1.02, -0.14; p = 0.01) and pain sensitivity (SMD: -0.43; 95% CI: -0.70, -0.16; p = 0.002) but failed to significantly improve the long-term pain intensity (SMD: -0.26; 95% CI: -0.59, 0.08; p = 0.13) in KOA patients. In addition, tDCS did not significantly improve the short-term (SMD: -0.13; 95% CI: -0.35, 0.08; p = 0.22) and long-term (SMD: 0.02; 95% CI: -0.22, 0.25; p = 0.90) physical function in patients with KOA. CONCLUSIONS: The tDCS can reduce short-term pain intensity and sensitivity but fails to significantly relieve long-term pain intensity and improve the physical function in patients with KOA. Thus, tDCS may be a potential therapeutic tool to reduce short-term pain intensity and pain sensitivity in patients with KOA.

RESUMEN

Background: Low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave therapy (Li-ESWT) is a new method for treating erectile dysfunction (ED), but there are no standards yet for its indications. Aim: The study aimed to suggest the early clinical efficacy of Li-ESWT and explore its related factors in young and middle-aged patients with ED who responded to phosphodiesterase type 5 Inhibitors (PDE5Is). Methods: Data from 61 patients with ED who had previously responded to oral PDE5Is and subsequently underwent Li-ESWT were collected. This included information on age, body mass index, total testicular volume, sex hormones, as well as IIEF-EF scores before treatment and at 1, 3, and 6 months after treatment. The treatment regimen involves a weekly session for four consecutive weeks, with each session administering 5000 shock wave pulses. Linear regression analysis was utilized to identify factors associated with the efficacy of Li-ESWT treatment. Additionally, the improvement in different severity groups of ED before and after treatment, along with their IIEF-EF scores, was compared. Outcomes: Li-ESWT was more targeted and effective for young and middle-aged patients with erectile dysfunction who responded to PDE5Is. Results: The age of enrolled patients ranges from 22 to 53 years old, and the IIEF-EF scores at 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after treatment were compared to baseline for efficacy assessment, showing significant improvements (P < .0001) in all instances. Linear regression analysis using baseline data revealed predictive factors associated with treatment efficacy: treatment efficacy was negatively correlated with baseline IIEF-EF scores (t = -2.599, P = .013) and positively correlated with baseline LH levels (t = 2.170, P = .036). Clinical Implications: Given the considerable cost of Li-ESWT treatment and the emphasis on treatment continuity, we hope to identify the most suitable candidates for Li-ESWT therapy, thereby optimizing its application. Strengths and Limitations: Our findings provide a better solution for nonelderly ED patients who are responsive to PDE5Is. This study was limited by our sample size and follow-up time. Conclusion: After 3 months of Li-ESWT, the IIEF-EF score gradually stabilizes and short-term maintenance of PDE5Is medication increases the responsiveness to shock wave therapy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a very common musculoskeletal disorder, and patients with KOA often exhibit significant quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy. It is well established that curcumin (CUR) exerts protective effects on skeletal muscle. However, the efficacy of CUR in treating KOA-induced quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy and its underlying mechanisms remain uncertain. In this study, we employed network pharmacology to investigate the mechanism by which CUR promotes regenerative repair of the quadriceps femoris muscle in rats with KOA. METHODS: The potential targets of CUR were obtained from Swiss Target Prediction. The targets of skeletal muscle regeneration were identified from GeneCard and OMIM. A Venn diagram was generated to visualize the intersection of CUR targets and skeletal muscle regeneration targets, and the core targets were identified using STRING. Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses were conducted using DAVID. Finally, the network pharmacology results were further validated by establishing a KOA rat model using the Hulth method. RESULTS: Network pharmacology analysis and molecular docking results revealed that CUR affects skeletal muscle regeneration through multiple targets and pathways. In vivo experimental results were validated by demonstrating that KOA causes atrophy and induces apoptosis in the quadriceps femoris muscle. Furthermore, CUR was shown to inhibit apoptosis in the quadriceps femoris muscle by regulating STAT3 and FOS, as well as the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS: Our study revealed the apoptosis-inhibiting effects of CUR and its underlying mechanisms. Consequently, CUR has the potential to improve quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy caused by KOA.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Microsurgical vasoepididymostomy is an effective surgical method for treating epididymal obstructive azoospermia but the surgical outcomes can be affected in some non-vasectomized epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with concurrent vas-deferens obstruction. This study aimed to explore the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes in non-vasectomized epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with versus without concurrent vas-deferens obstruction. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes in non-vasectomized epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with versus without concurrent vas-deferens obstruction, aiming to identify predictive factors for concurrent vas-deferens obstruction and evaluate the efficacy of microsurgical vasoepididymostomy in patients with epididymal obstructive azoospermia and concurrent short-segment vas-deferens obstruction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 225 epididymal obstructive azoospermia cases was conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University from November 2016 to March 2023. All patients underwent a comprehensive preoperative evaluation. During surgery, the vas deferens were assessed to determine the presence and extent of obstruction. Depending on the obstruction length, either a standard microsurgical vasoepididymostomy was performed, or the obstructed segment was resected followed by microsurgical vasoepididymostomy. If the remaining length post-resection was insufficient for anastomosis, the procedure was discontinued. Data on patient clinical characteristics, operative findings, and outcomes were collected and analyzed. Logistic regression was used to identify predictive factors for concurrent vas-deferens obstruction, and comparative analysis assessed patency and pregnancy rates between patients with and without concurrent vas-deferens obstruction. RESULTS: Of the 225 patients in the study, 77 (34.22%) presented with epididymal obstructive azoospermia and concurrent vas-deferens obstruction. Logistic regression analysis revealed that "the history of epididymitis" was a significant predictive factor for epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with concurrent vas-deferens obstruction (odds ratio = 9.06, p < 0.001). The average length of vas deferens obstruction amenable to microsurgical vasoepididymostomy post-resection was 1.31 ± 0.54 cm (range from 0.50 to 2.50 cm). In contrast, cases unsuitable for microsurgical vasoepididymostomy presented an average obstruction length of 15.26 ± 5.79 cm (p < 0.001). The patency rates were 82.17% in epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients without concurrent vas-deferens obstruction and 74.14% in those with concurrent vas-deferens obstruction. The pregnancy rates followed a similar trend, at 34.11% and 34.48%, respectively. These differences were not statistically significant (p > 0.05 for both). However, epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with vas-deferens obstruction exhibited a decreased likelihood of bilateral microsurgical vasoepididymostomy (p < 0.001). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Our study identifies a noticeable occurrence of concurrent vas-deferens obstruction in non-vasectomized epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients, with approximately one-third of the cases (34.22%) exhibiting vas-deferens obstruction during surgical interventions. Notably, a small fraction (6.67%) of these individuals chose not to proceed with any microsurgical vasoepididymostomy, even on one side, due to the extensive length of the obstruction. Through logistic analysis, we have demonstrated that "the history of epididymitis" is a critical predictive factor for the presence of vas-deferens obstruction, underscoring its significance in preoperative evaluations. Furthermore, our research confirms that microsurgical vasoepididymostomy is still an effective treatment for epididymal obstructive azoospermia patients with concurrent short-segment vas-deferens obstruction, achieving significant patency and favorable pregnancy rates compared to those patients without vas-deferens obstruction. These insights are pivotal for enhancing surgical strategies and improving fertility outcomes in this patient cohort.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Skeletal muscle injury is one of the most common sports injuries; if not properly treated or not effective rehabilitation treatment after injury, it can be transformed into chronic cumulative injury. Curcumin, an herbal ingredient, has been found to promote skeletal muscle injury repair and regeneration. The Wnt5a pathway is related to the expression of myogenic regulatory factors, and Ca2+ promotes the differentiation and fusion process of myoblasts. This study explored the effect and mechanism of curcumin on myoblast differentiation during the repair and regeneration of injured skeletal muscle and its relationship with the Wnt5a pathway and Ca2+ channel. METHODS: Myogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells was induced with 2% horse serum, and a mouse (male, 10 weeks old) model of acute skeletal muscle injury was established using cardiotoxin (20 µL). In addition, we constructed a Wnt5a knockdown C2C12 cell model and a Wnt5a knockout mouse model. Besides, curcumin was added to the cell culture solution (80 mg/L) and fed to the mice (50 mg/kg). Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the concentration of Ca2+. Western blot and RT-qPCR were used to detect the protein and mRNA levels of Wnt5a, CaN, NFAT2, MyoD, Myf5, Pax7, and Myogenin. The expression levels of MyoD, Myf5, Myogenin, MHC, Desmin, and NFAT2 were detected using immunofluorescence techniques. In addition, MyoD expression was observed using immunohistochemistry, and morphological changes in mouse muscle tissue were observed using HE staining. RESULTS: During myoblast differentiation and muscle regeneration, Wnt5a expression was upregulated (P < 0.001) and the Wnt5a signalling pathway was activated. Wnt5a overexpression promoted the expression of MyoD, Myf5, Myogenin, MHC, and Desmin (P < 0.05), and conversely, knockdown of Wnt5a inhibited their expression (P < 0.001). The Wnt5a pathway mediated the opening of Ca2+ channels, regulated the expression levels of CaN, NFAT2, MyoD, Myf5, Myogenin, MHC, and Desmin (P < 0.01) and promoted the differentiation of C2C12 myoblasts and the repair and regeneration of injured skeletal muscle. The expression of Wnt5a, CaN, NFAT2, MyoD, Myogenin, Myf5, and MHC in C2C12 myoblast was significantly increased after curcumin intervention (P < 0.05); however, their expression decreased significantly after knocking down Wnt5a on the basis of curcumin intervention (P < 0.05). Similarly, in Wnt5a knockout mice, the promotion of muscle regeneration by curcumin was significantly attenuated. CONCLUSIONS: Curcumin can activate the Wnt5a signalling pathway and mediate the opening of Ca2+ channels to accelerate the myogenic differentiation of C2C12 cells and the repair and regeneration of injured skeletal muscle.

RESUMEN

The Alpinia oxyphylla fruit (AOF) is a popular condiment and traditional Chinese medicine in Asia, known for its neuroprotective compound nootkatone. However, there has not been a comprehensive study of its flavor or the relationship between sensory and bioactive compounds. To address this issue, we examined AOF's microstructure, flavor, and metabolomic profiles during fruit maturation. The key markers used to distinguish samples included fruit expansion, testa pigmentation, aril liquefaction, oil cell expansion, peel spiciness, aril sweetness, and seed bitterness. A full-spectrum metabolomic analysis, combining a nontargeted metabolomics approach for volatile compounds and a widely targeted metabolomics approach for nonvolatile compounds, identified 1,448 metabolites, including 1,410 differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs). Notably, 31 DAMs, including nootkatone, were associated with spicy peel, sweet aril, and bitter seeds. Correlational analysis indicated that bitterness intensity is an easy-to-use biomarker for nootkatone content in seeds. KEGG enrichment analysis linked peel spiciness to phenylpropanoid and capsaicin biosynthesis, seed bitterness to terpenoid (especially nootkatone) biosynthesis, and aril sweetness to starch and sucrose metabolism. This investigation advances the understanding of AOF's complex flavor chemistry and underlying bioactive principle, encapsulating the essence of the adage: "no bitterness, no intelligence" within the realm of phytochemistry.

RESUMEN

Exosomes represent a type of extracellular vesicles derived from the endosomal pathway that transport diverse molecular cargoes such as proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. These cargoes have emerged as crucial elements impacting disease diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis, and are integral to the process of exosome formation. This review delves into the essential molecular cargoes implicated in the phases of exosome production and release. Emphasis is placed on their significance as cancer biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets, accompanied by an exploration of the obstacles and feasible applications linked to these developments.

RESUMEN

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) usually leads to quadriceps femoris atrophy, which in turn can further aggravate the progression of KOA. Curcumin (CUR) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and has been shown to be a protective agent for skeletal muscle. CUR has been shown to have a protective effect on skeletal muscle. However, there are no studies related to whether CUR improves KOA-induced quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy. We established a model of KOA in rats. Rats in the experimental group were fed CUR for 5 weeks. Changes in autophagy levels, reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and changes in the expression of the Sirutin3 (SIRT3)-superoxide dismutase 2 (SOD2) pathway were detected in the quadriceps femoris muscle of rats. KOA led to quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy, in which autophagy was induced and ROS levels were increased. CUR increased SIRT3 expression, decreased SOD2 acetylation and ROS levels, inhibited the over-activation of autophagy, thereby alleviating quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy and improving KOA. CUR has a protective effect against quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy, and KOA is alleviated after improvement of quadriceps femoris muscle atrophy, with the possible mechanism being the reduction of ROS-induced autophagy via the SIRT3-SOD2 pathway.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to determine risk factors for poor in-hospital outcomes in a large cohort of older adult patients with acute non-traffic traumatic spinal cord injury (tSCI). METHODS: This is a population-based, retrospective, observational study. Data of older adults ≥65 years with a primary discharge diagnosis of acute non-traffic tSCI were extracted from the US National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database 2005-2018. Traffic-related tSCI admissions or patients lacking complete data on age, sex and outcomes of interest were excluded. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to determine associations between variables and in-hospital outcomes. RESULTS: Data of 49,449 older patients (representing 246,939 persons in the US) were analyzed. The mean age was 79.9 years. Multivariable analyses revealed that severe International Classification of Disease (ICD)-based injury severity score (ICISS) (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 3.14, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.77-3.57), quadriplegia (aOR = 2.79, 95%CI: 2.34-3.32), paraplegia (aOR = 2.60, 95%CI:1.89-3.58), cervical injury with vertebral fracture (aOR = 2.19, 95%CI: 1.90-2.52), and severe liver disease (aOR = 2.33, 95%CI: 1.34-4.04) were all strong independent predictors of in-hospital mortality. In addition, malnutrition (aOR = 3.19, 95% CI: 2.93-3.48) was the strongest predictors of prolonged length of stay (LOS). CONCLUSIONS: Several critical factors for in-hospital mortality, unfavorable discharge, and prolonged LOS among US older adults with acute non-traffic tSCI were identified. In addition to the factors associated with initial severity, the presence of severe liver disease and malnutrition emerged as strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes, highlighting the need for special attention for these patient subgroups.

RESUMEN

To explore the effects of foot reflexology massage on anxiety, pain, duration of labor, labor satisfaction, blood pressure, pulse rate and respiratory rate in pregnant women. We systematically searched eight databases for randomized controlled studies on the effects of foot reflexology massage on pregnant women. The inclusion criteria were as follow: participants were pregnant woman; the intervention is foot reflexology or foot massage; the control intervention is placebo, usual care, or no intervention; outcome indicators included pain, anxiety, birth satisfaction, duration of labor, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration; and study type was randomized controlled study. Studies that did not meet the above requirements were excluded. We assessed the quality of the included studies using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale, the risk of bias using the Risk of Bias 2.0 tool, and the level of evidence for the outcomes using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation. We used Review Manager 5.3 for data analysis and generated funnel plots to assess publication bias. In addition, sensitivity analysis was used to test the stability of the results. A total of 13 randomized controlled studies with 1189 participants were included in this study. Compared to the control group, foot reflexology massage reduced anxiety and pain in pregnant women, shortened the three stages of labor, and increased birth satisfaction. In addition, it also reduced the pulse rate and respiratory rate of pregnant women, but not for blood pressure. Foot reflexology massage can significantly reduce anxiety and pain, shorten the duration of labor, increase birth satisfaction, and stabilize vital signs in pregnant women. It is a safe and non-invasive form of complementary therapy.PROSPERO registered number: CRD42022359641. URL: https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=359641 .

RESUMEN

To investigate the effects of rapeseed oil on body composition, blood glucose and lipid metabolism in people with overweight and obesity compared to other cooking oils. We searched eight databases for randomized controlled studies (including randomized crossover trials). The risk of bias for the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 tool. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment Development and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria were used to evaluate the quality of the outcomes. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) scale. Sensitivity analysis was used to check the stability of the pooled results. Statistical analysis was carried out using Review Manager 5.3 software. As a result, fifteen randomized controlled studies (including six parallel studies and nine crossover studies) were included in this study. Compared to other edible oils, rapeseed oil significantly reduced low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (MD = -0.14 mmol/L, 95% CI: -0.21, -0.08, I2 = 0%, P < 0.0001), apolipoprotein B (ApoB) (MD = -0.03 g/L, 95% CI: -0.05, -0.01, I2 = 0%, P = 0.0003), ApoB/ApoA1 (MD = -0.02, 95% CI: -0.04, -0.00, I2 = 0%, P = 0.02) and insulin (MD = -12.45 pmol/L, 95% CI: -19.61, -5.29, I2 = 37%, P = 0.0007) levels, and increased fasting glucose (MD = 0.16 mmol/L, 95% CI: 0.05, 0.27, I2 = 27%, P = 0.003) levels. However, the differences in body weight and body composition between rapeseed oil and control oils were not significant. In a word, rapeseed oil is effective in reducing LDL-C, ApoB and ApoB/ApoA1 levels in people with overweight and obesity, which is helpful in preventing and reducing the risk of atherosclerosis. RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is any spinal cord injury or affliction that results in temporary or permanent impairment of motor or sensory function. This study determined the prevalence of frailty and its impact on in-hospital outcomes of patients admitted with acute traumatic SCI (TSCI). METHODS: This retrospective study extracted data of adults 18 to 85 years with acute TSCI from the US Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) 2016 to 2018. Frailty status were assessed by the 11-factor modified Frailty Index (mFI-11) through claim codes. Patients with an mFI ≥3 were classified as frail. Associations between study variables and in-hospital mortality, discharge status, prolonged length of stay, severe infection, and hospital costs were determined by univariate and multivariable regression analyses. RESULTS: A total of 52,263 TSCI patients were identified, where 12,203 (23.3%) patients were frail. After adjusting for relevant confounders, frailty was independently associated with increased risk for in-hospital mortality [adjusted odds ratio (aOR) = 1.25, 95% CI:1.04-1.49], unfavorable discharge (aOR =1.15, 95% CI: 1.09-1.22), prolonged length of stay (aOR =1.32, 95% CI: 1.24-1.40), and severe infection (aOR =2.52, 95% CI: 2.24-2.83), but not hospital cost. Stratified analyses revealed frailty was associated with higher unfavorable discharge and severe infection regardless of age, Charlson Comorbidity Index, and injury level. CONCLUSIONS: In acute TSCI, frailty is independently associated with increased risk for adverse inpatient outcomes in terms of in-hospital mortality, prolonged hospital stays, unfavorable discharge, and particularly severe infection.

RESUMEN

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the use intention and influencing factors of telerehabilitation in people with rehabilitation needs. Methods: This cross-sectional survey recruited a total of 183 participants with rehabilitation needs from May 2022 to December 2022. Sociodemographic and medical data were collected by a structured questionnaire. The factors influencing the use intention of telerehabilitation were measured by the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. Multiple hierarchical regression analyses were performed. Results: A total of 150 valid questionnaires were included for analysis. The results indicated that the use intention of telerehabilitation was overall high in people with rehabilitation needs. Health condition (ß = -0.21, p = 0.03), performance expectancy (ß = 0.21, p = 0.01), facilitating conditions (ß = 0.25, p = 0.03), perceived trust (ß = 0.25, p < 0.01), and self-efficacy (ß = 0.19, p = 0.04) were significant factors influencing the use intention of telerehabilitation. Conclusion: Overall, the use intention of telerehabilitation is high in individuals with rehabilitation needs. Health conditions, performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, perceived trust, and self-efficacy are important factors influencing the use intention of telerehabilitation in individuals with rehabilitation needs.

RESUMEN

Callerya speciosa is a perennial edible and medicinal plant belonging to the family Fabaceae. This study was to reveal the similarities and differences between phytochemicals in different parts of C. speciosa using a combination of ultra-performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS), principal component analysis (PCA) and orthogonal projection to latent structures discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA). In addition, the anti-diabetic activity of C. speciosa extracts was explored. A total of 141 compounds were identified and 34 robustly known chemical markers were marked. PCA and heat map analyses revealed that the stems, leaves and pods had similar phytochemical compounds, while compounds in roots and flowers differed from each other and from those in the above ground parts. In addition, extracts of C. speciosa roots and flowers exhibited anti-diabetic activity, which can be applied to the development of anti-diabetic drugs.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: The pathogenesis of vaginal wind remains unclear. This study was aimed at assessing the association between functional constipation and vaginal wind in women at 6 weeks postpartum. METHODS: This is a multicenter cross-sectional study. We collected data, such as baseline demographic, clinical characteristics, pelvic organ prolapse quantification score. and surface electromyography parameters of pelvic floor muscles, of women at 6 weeks postpartum who visited the postpartum rehabilitation clinic between May 2022 and September 2022. The cohort data were from women who visited the postpartum rehabilitation clinic of the First Affiliated Hospital of Gannan Medical University and the Women and Children's Health Care Hospital of Yudu County. Follow-up for the control and study cohorts was conducted until 6 weeks postpartum. RESULTS: Among the 377 women, 101 (26.79%) reported vaginal wind. Multivariate regression analysis showed that postpartum women with functional constipation were at a higher risk for vaginal wind than women without functional constipation (odds ratio [OR], 2.41). The results remained stable across the propensity score analyses (OR, 1.86-2.30). In addition, we found age, body mass index, mode of delivery, changes in the anatomical location of Bp points, urinary incontinence, pelvic floor muscle strength, and birth weight of the neonate were not associated with increased odds of vaginal wind in women at 6 weeks postpartum. CONCLUSIONS: Vaginal wind is common among women at 6 weeks postpartum and is associated with functional constipation. Functional constipation may serve as a reference for the pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment of vaginal wind.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Since 2019, the COVID-19 outbreak has spread around the world, and health care workers, as frontline workers, have faced tremendous psychological stress. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to explore whether web-based mindfulness-based interventions continue to have a positive impact on anxiety, depression, and stress among health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) participants were frontline health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic; (2) the experimental group was a web-based mindfulness-based intervention; (3) the control group used either general psychological intervention or no intervention; (4) outcome indicators included scales to assess anxiety, depression, and stress; and (5) the study type was a randomized controlled study. Studies that did not meet the above requirements were excluded. We searched 9 databases, including Web of Science, Embase, PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, ScienceDirect, SinoMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang Database, for randomized controlled studies on the effects of web-based mindfulness-based interventions on common mental disorder symptoms among health care workers from January 1, 2020, to October 20, 2022. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the risk of bias. Subgroup analysis was used to look for sources of heterogeneity and to explore whether the results were the same for subgroups under different conditions. Sensitivity analysis was used to verify the stability of the pooled results. RESULTS: A total of 10 randomized controlled studies with 1311 participants were included. The results showed that web-based mindfulness-based interventions were effective in reducing the symptoms of anxiety (standard mean difference [SMD]=-0.63, 95% CI -0.96 to -0.31, P<.001, I2=87%), depression (SMD=-0.52, 95% CI -0.77 to -0.26, P<.001, I2=75%), and stress (SMD=-0.20, 95% CI -0.35 to -0.05, P=.01, I2=58%) among health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, but with wide CIs and high heterogeneity. CONCLUSIONS: Web-based mindfulness-based interventions may be effective in reducing the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress among frontline health care workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, this effect is relatively mild and needs to be further explored by better studies in the future. RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: With the development of noninvasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques, many researchers have turned their attention to NIBS as a promising treatment for cerebellar ataxia. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy and safety of NIBS in treating patients with cerebellar ataxia. METHODS: Databases, including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Medline, and Cochrane Library, were retrieved for relevant randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Two researchers conducted literature screening, data extraction, literature quality assessment, and heterogeneity analysis between RCTs. According to the magnitude of heterogeneity I2, an appropriate data analysis model was selected for meta-analysis. RESULTS: A total of 14 RCTs including 406 patients with cerebellar ataxia met the inclusion criteria. The included RCTs had an overall low-risk bias and an intermediate level of evidence recommendation for key outcome indicators, such as the scale for the assessment and rating of ataxia (SARA) and international cooperative ataxia rating scale (ICARS). The results of meta-analysis showed that cerebellar NIBS, including transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), was effective in reducing the SARA scores (MD = - 3.45, 95%CI = [- 4.85, - 2.50], P < 0.05) and ICARS scores (MD = - 10.87, 95%CI = [- 14.46, - 7.28], P < 0.05) in patients with cerebellar ataxia compared to controls. Subgroup analysis showed that the efficacy of tDCS and rTMS was statistically different in patients with cerebellar ataxia as assessed by the SARA scores, but not by the ICARS scores. There was statistically significant difference in the efficacy of NIBS for the treatment of cerebellar ataxia caused by different etiologies. As for safety, 8 of 14 included studies documented the adverse effects of NIBS, and only two studies reported the mild adverse events of NIBS. CONCLUSIONS: Cerebellar NIBS was safe and effective in improving the motor coordination of patients with cerebellar ataxia, and tDCS was better than rTMS in the treatment of cerebellar ataxia. In addition, the efficacy of NIBS was different in the treatment of different types of cerebellar ataxia.
