RESUMEN

In the context of peaking carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality, development of feasible methods for converting CO2 into high value-added chemicals stands out as a hot subject. In this study, P[D+COO-][Br-][DBUH+], a series of novel heterogeneous dual-ionic poly(ionic liquid)s (PILs) were synthesized readily from 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate (DMAEMA), bromo-substituted aliphatic acids, organic bases and divinylbenzene (DVB). The structures, compositions and morphologies were characterized or determined by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopes (SEM), and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis (BET), etc. Application of the P[D+COO-][Br-][DBUH+] series as catalysts in converting CO2 into cyclic carbonates showed that P[D+COO-][Br-][DBUH+]-2/1/0.6 was able to catalyze epiclorohydrin-CO2 cycloaddition the most efficiently. This afforded chloropropylene carbonate (CPC) in 98.4% yield with ≥ 99% selectivity in 24 hr under solvent- and additive-free conditions at atmospheric pressure. Reusability experiments showed that recycling of the catalyst 6 times only resulted in a slight decline in the catalytic performance. In addition, it could be used for the synthesis of a variety of differently substituted cyclic carbonates in good to excellent yields. Finally, key catalytic active sites were probed, and a reasonable mechanism was proposed accordingly. In summary, this work poses an efficient strategy for heterogenization of dual-ionic PILs and provides a mild and environmentally benign approach to the fixation and utilization of carbon dioxide.

Introduction: Peritoneal dialysis (PD) shows promise for urgent-start dialysis in end-stage renal disease (ESRD), with automated PD (APD) having advantages. However, there is limited multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) evidence comparing APD with temporary hemodialysis (HD) for this indication in China. Methods: This multicenter RCT enrolled 116 patients with ESRD requiring urgent dialysis from 11 hospitals, randomized to APD or HD. Patients underwent a 2-week treatment with APD or HD via a temporary central venous catheter (CVC), followed by a maintenance PD. Outcomes were assessed over 12 months during 8 visits. The primary outcome was dialysis-related complications. Results: The 1-year incidence of dialysis-related complications was significantly lower in the APD group than in the HD group (25.9% vs. 56.9%, P = 0.001). No significant differences were found between the groups in terms of PD catheter survival rates (P = 0.388), peritonitis-free survival rates (P = 0.335), and patient survival rates (P = 0.329). In terms of health economics, the total direct medical cost of the initial hospitalization for patients with ESRD was significantly lower in the APD group (27,008.39 CNY) than in the HD group (42,597.54 CNY) (P = 0.001), whereas the duration of the first hospital stay showed no significant difference (P = 0.424). Conclusion: For patients with ESRD needing urgent initiation of dialysis, APD was associated with a lower incidence of dialysis-related complications and lower initial hospitalization costs compared with HD, with no significant differences in PD catheter survival rate, peritonitis-free survival rates, or patient survival rates. These findings can guide clinical decision-making for the optimal dialysis modality for patients requiring urgent dialysis initiation.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Dalitong Granules (DLT), a potent Traditional Chinese Medicine known for its ability to promote gastrointestinal motility, is widely used in clinical practice for the treatment of Functional Dyspepsia (FD). Despite the remarkable clinical efficacy of DLT, the specific components responsible for its effectiveness remains unclear. AIM OF THE STUDY: The study aimed to identify potential active ingredients of DLT for treating FD through spectrum-effect relationship analysis, multivariate statistical analysis and network pharmacology analysis. The efficacy of these identified compounds was subsequently validated using the zebrafish intestinal peristalsis model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The fingerprints of various solvent-extracted DLT were analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography coupled with tandem high-resolution mass spectrometry. The intestinal motility-promoting activities of DLT extracted by different solvents were evaluated through an intestinal propulsion test in mice. Potential therapeutic substances in DLT for treating FD were screened via chemometric analysis based on spectrum-effect relationship analysis. The correlation between the intensity of common peaks in the total ion chromatogram and the pharmacodynamic indices was assessed using multivariate statistical analysis. Additionally, given the complexity of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which comprises multiple components and targets, a network pharmacology analysis was performed to investigate the potential active ingredients in DLT. Finally, the pharmacological effects of these compounds in DLT were validated using a zebrafish intestinal motility model. RESULTS: Through spectral-effect relationships analysis and network pharmacology analysis, it was determined that ten ingredients in DLT contribute to the promotion of intestinal motility. In a zebrafish intestinal motility model, it was observed that eight chemicals (excluding tetrahydropalmatine) demonstrate favorable activity of promoting gastrointestinal motility. These findings suggest that these ingredients may serve as potential therapeutic agents for improving gastric motility disorders. CONCLUSIONS: This study employed spectral-effect relationship and network pharmacology analysis to identify the active ingredients in DLT. The findings were then validated using a zebrafish intestinal peristalsis model. These results provide a scientific foundation for the clinical application of DLT as a key traditional herbal formula for managing FD.

BACKGROUND: Among sexually transmitted infection (STI) pathogens, UU, CT, NG, and MG are very commonly detected. A retrospective study was conducted to analyze the clinical situations and laboratory data of patients in-fected with the four pathogens in Hangzhou city, Zhejiang Province, China. METHODS: For this study, 4,716 female outpatients and inpatients of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Hangzhou Third People´s Hospital were randomly selected from January 2019 to December 2023. Multiple types of specimens were collected and four STI pathogens were detected. Data collection was taken from the hospital's electronic medical records and statistical analysis was processed with SPSS 25.0 software. RESULTS: In the past five years, year by year, the positive rate presented an increasing trend. Out of 4,716 patients, 2,931 were positive, and the positive rate was 62.15%. The positive rate of single infection was significantly higher than of co-infection (p < 0.05). The highest positive rate of all STI patients was found in the  20 age group, and the rate was significantly different between each age group (p < 0.05). Single infection with UU occurred significantly more often than with the other three pathogens (p < 0.05), and co-infection with UU and CT and UU, CT, and MG were significantly dominating (p < 0.05). Only three patients had an infection with all four pathogens, and it was extremely rare. The 21 - 30 and 31 - 40 age groups had high incidences of infection, with a significant difference compared with other age groups (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The positive rate shows an increasing trend in Hangzhou in the past five years. More single infection than co-infection and more younger patients were detected. Single infection with UU was dominant in all positive patients. The publicity and more screening testing items of STI for younger people should be strengthened in Hangzhou, and the people of Hangzhou should be made more aware that information technology is helpful in aiding the control of STI diseases.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The role of gender in decision-making for oral anticoagulation in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) remains controversial. METHODS: The population cohort study used electronic healthcare records of 16 587 749 patients from UK primary care (2005-2020). Primary (composite of all-cause mortality, ischaemic stroke, or arterial thromboembolism) and secondary outcomes were analysed using Cox hazard ratios (HR), adjusted for age, socioeconomic status, and comorbidities. RESULTS: 78 852 patients were included with AF, aged 40-75 years, no prior stroke, and no prescription of oral anticoagulants. 28 590 (36.3%) were women, and 50 262 (63.7%) men. Median age was 65.7 years (interquartile range 58.5-70.9), with women being older and having other differences in comorbidities. During a total follow-up of 431 086 patient-years, women had a lower adjusted primary outcome rate with HR 0.89 vs. men (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.87-0.92; P < .001) and HR 0.87 after censoring for oral anticoagulation (95% CI 0.83-0.91; P < .001). This was driven by lower mortality in women (HR 0.86, 95% CI 0.83-0.89; P < .001). No difference was identified between women and men for the secondary outcomes of ischaemic stroke or arterial thromboembolism (adjusted HR 1.00, 95% CI 0.94-1.07; P = .87), any stroke or any thromboembolism (adjusted HR 1.02, 95% CI 0.96-1.07; P = .58), and incident vascular dementia (adjusted HR 1.13, 95% CI 0.97-1.32; P = .11). Clinical risk scores were only modest predictors of outcomes, with CHA2DS2-VA (ignoring gender) superior to CHA2DS2-VASc for primary outcomes in this population (receiver operating characteristic curve area 0.651 vs. 0.639; P < .001) and no interaction with gender (P = .45). CONCLUSIONS: Removal of gender from clinical risk scoring could simplify the approach to which patients with AF should be offered oral anticoagulation.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus (DM) and sarcopenia are bidirectionally linked and commonly co-occur among middle-aged and elderly individuals. This study aims to examine the combined effect of DM and sarcopenia on depressive symptoms and cognitive function. METHODS: This was a nationwide cohort study using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study. The definition of DM was self-reported and based on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) ≥ 6.5% or fasting blood glucose (FBG) ≥ 126 mg/dL. The diagnosis of sarcopenia was based on the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 algorithm. The outcomes included depressive symptoms assessed using the 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D-10) and cognitive function. Multi-adjusted linear and logistic regression models were conducted to evaluate the combined effect of DM and sarcopenia on depression and cognitive performance. RESULTS: 9148 participants were included in the longitudinal analysis, with 45.5% being men and an average age of 57.4 years. 6987 (76.4%) participants had neither DM nor sarcopenia, 1076 (11.8%) had DM only, 983 (10.8%) had sarcopenia only, and 102 (1.1%) had both DM and sarcopenia. In the cross-sectional analysis, the DM (+)/Sarcopenia (+) group exhibited the highest CES-D-10 score (ß: 2.23, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.26, 3.19) and the lowest cognitive score (ß: - 1.02, 95% CI - 1.79, - 0.26) (P for trend < 0.05). In the longitudinal analysis, individuals in the DM (+)/Sarcopenia ( +) group had higher risks of moderate-to-severe depression (odds ratio (OR): 2.09, 95% CI 1.18, 3.71) and cognitive decline (OR: 1.87, 95% CI 1.19, 2.95) compared to the DM (-)/Sarcopenia (-) group. The population attributable fractions of DM and sarcopenia were 42.2% (95% CI 6.3, 90.4) for moderate-to-severe depression and 23.0% (95% CI 8.6, 39.3) for cognitive decline. CONCLUSION: DM and sarcopenia additively increase the risk of moderate-to-severe depression and cognitive impairment, highlighting the importance of vigilant monitoring and management of these conditions to preserve mental health in middle-aged and elderly individuals.

The synthesis of complex polysubstituted aromatic molecules from simple precursors is a central goal in organic chemistry. In this study, we developed an approach for the ortho-alkylation of iodoarenes utilizing a dual ligand catalytic system. By combining Pd/olefin ligand cooperative catalysis with bulky trialkylphosphine ligand-promoted C(sp2)-I reductive elimination, we have established an ortho-alkylative Catellani-type reaction with the aryl-iodine bond reconstruction as the final step, which opens new synthetic opportunities within the Catellani-type reactions. Through in-depth mechanistic investigations, we have isolated and characterized key organopalladium intermediates, revealing the synergistic interaction of the dual ligands in merging the Catellani-type process with C(sp2)-I reductive elimination. The present study showcases the unique advantages of Pd/olefin ligand catalysis and emphasizes the effectiveness of the dual ligand system in expanding the chemical space of the Catellani chemistry.

A multimodal exercise training program might be the best way to improve motor and cognitive function in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), but this has yet to be fully proven in PD patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). This study aims to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of a theory-based, multi-component exercise intervention in older people with PD-MCI. Participants were randomized into an intervention group (n=23) and an active control group (n=23), receiving the theory-based multi-component exercise intervention and Parkinson's health exercises, respectively. All participants performed 60-minute exercise training sessions three times a week over a 12-week period. The retention rate at post-intervention was 95.7% (42/46) for the entire cohort. The attendance rates were 99.6% in the intervention group and 99.5% in the control group. No adverse events occurred. The intervention group showed significantly greater improvements than the control group in global cognitive function, executive function, physical motor function, balance and gait, depression, and quality of life. This study indicates that the theory-based multi-component exercise intervention demonstrates high feasibility in promoting exercise adherence and is an effective treatment option for older adults with PD-MCI.

Rapid urbanization increases the densely built-up blocks, the population and vehicles. Large amounts of particulate matter (PM), especially PM2.5 (PM with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5µm or less), from vehicle exhaust are critical to human health. In typical street canyons in hot and humid regions, traffic-source PM usually diffuses to the densely built-up blocks through roadside trees. Roadside trees are a double-edged sword, serving as "guards" to absorb PM2.5 while may lead to PM2.5 gathering in street levels, thereby influencing the PM2.5 dispersion in the densely built-up blocks. To quantify the dispersion process, this study proposed traffic-source PM2.5 dynamic dispersion models considering the capture capability of roadside trees and built-up blocks based on the OSPM model. Due to the difficulty in obtaining the adsorption and deposition rate of the proposed models, the numerical simulations by ENVI-met software were used to solve and obtain the relationship between capture capability and characteristic index of roadside trees. Subsequently, The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed traffic-source PM2.5 dynamic dispersion models were verified through field experimental data. Results show that the calculated PM2.5 concentration significantly linearly increased with the measured values with the determined coefficient (R2) of 0.98, and the first-order coefficient close to 1. It indicates that the proposed traffic-source PM2.5 dispersion model accurately quantified the impact of roadside trees on PM2.5 and its concentration dispersion process to the built-up blocks. This study provides suggestions for designing characteristic indexes of roadside trees and built-up blocks to improve the air quality of urban street canyons.

ortho-Quinone methides (o-QMs) are a class of highly reactive intermediates that serve as important nonisolable building blocks (NBBs) in organic synthesis and small-molecule library construction. Because of their instability and nonisolability, most reported o-QMs are generated through in situ chemical synthesis, and only a few natural o-QMs have been reported due to the lack of directed discovery strategies. Herein, a new natural o-QM precursor (trichophenol A, 2) was identified from the fungal strain of Trichoderma sp. AT0167 through genome mining, which was generated by trilA (nonreducing polyketide synthase) and trilB (2-oxoglutarate dependent dioxygenase). Combinatorial biosynthesis via two other known NRPKS genes with trilA and trilB was performed, leading to the generation of five new trichophenol o-QM oligomers (trichophenols D-H, 5-9). The strategy combining genome mining with combinatorial biosynthesis not only targetedly uncovered a new natural o-QM precursor but also produced various new molecules through oligomerization of the new o-QM and its designated o-QM acceptors without chemical synthesis and isolation of intermediates, which was named NBB genome mining-combinatorial biosynthesis strategy for o-QM molecule library construction. This study provides a new strategy for the targeted discovery of natural o-QMs and small-molecule library construction with natural o-QMs.

Purpose: Chemotherapy mediated by Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive drug delivery systems can potentially mitigate the toxic side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs and significantly enhance their therapeutic efficacy. However, achieving precise targeted drug delivery and real-time control of ROS-responsive drug release at tumor sites remains a formidable challenge. Therefore, this study aimed to describe a ROS-responsive drug delivery system with specific tumor targeting capabilities for mitigating chemotherapy-induced toxicity while enhancing therapeutic efficacy under guidance of Fluorescence (FL) and Magnetic resonance (MR) bimodal imaging. Methods: Indocyanine green (ICG), Doxorubicin (DOX) prodrug pB-DOX and Superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO, Fe3O4) were encapsulated in poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) by double emulsification method to prepare ICG/ pB-DOX/ Fe3O4/ PLGA nanoparticles (IBFP NPs). The surface of IBFP NPs was functionalized with mammaglobin antibodies (mAbs) by carbodiimide method to construct the breast cancer-targeting mAbs/ IBFP NPs (MIBFP NPs). Thereafter, FL and MR bimodal imaging ability of MIBFP NPs was evaluated in vitro and in vivo. Finally, the combined photodynamic therapy (PDT) and chemotherapy efficacy evaluation based on MIBFP NPs was studied. Results: The multifunctional MIBFP NPs exhibited significant targeting efficacy for breast cancer. FL and MR bimodal imaging clearly displayed the distribution of the targeting MIBFP NPs in vivo. Upon near-infrared laser irradiation, the MIBFP NPs loaded with ICG effectively generated ROS for PDT, enabling precise tumor ablation. Simultaneously, it triggered activation of the pB-DOX by cleaving its sensitive moiety, thereby restoring DOX activity and achieving ROS-responsive targeted chemotherapy. Furthermore, the MIBFP NPs combined PDT and chemotherapy to enhance the efficiency of tumor ablation under guidance of bimodal imaging. Conclusion: MIBFP NPs constitute a novel dual-modality imaging-guided drug delivery system for targeted breast cancer therapy and offer precise and controlled combined treatment options.

To more greenly and efficiently utilize the abundant lignite resources and explore the microbial degradation and transformation potential of lignite for its environmentally friendly and resourceful utilization, Shengli lignite from the Hulunbuir region of Inner Mongolia, China, was selected as the research subject. Through the dilution plating method and streaking method, 31 native microorganisms were successfully isolated from the Shengli lignite, including 16 bacteria and 15 fungi. After microbial coal dissolution experiments, it was found that certain microorganisms have a significant dissolving effect on lignite, with some bacterial and fungal strains showing strong dissolution capabilities. In particular, the bacterium SH10 Lysinibacillus fusiformis and the fungus L1W Paecilomyces lilacinus demonstrated the best coal-dissolving abilities, with dissolution rates both reaching 60%. The products of microbial dissolution of lignite were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) technology, identifying a variety of small molecular organic compounds, including alkanes, alcohols, esters, and phenols. The results of this study provide a new perspective on the biodegradation of lignite and lay the foundation for the development of new lignite treatment and utilization technologies.

Rationale: Adult neurogenesis in the subventricular zone (SVZ) is essential for maintaining neural homeostasis, and its dysregulation contributes to anosmia and delayed tissue healing in neurological disorders, such as Parkinson's disease (PD). Despite intricate regulatory networks identified in SVZ neurogenesis, the molecular mechanisms dynamically maintaining neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) in response to physiological and pathological stimuli remain incompletely elucidated. Methods: We generated an RNA binding motif protein 24 (Rbm24) knockout model to investigate its impact on adult neurogenesis in the SVZ, employing immunofluorescence, immunoblot, electrophysiology, RNA-sequencing, and in vitro experiments. Further investigations utilized a PD mouse model, along with genetic and pharmacological manipulations, to elucidate Rbm24 involvement in PD pathology. Results: Rbm24, a multifaceted post-transcriptional regulator of cellular homeostasis, exhibited broad expression in the SVZ from development to aging. Deletion of Rbm24 significantly impaired NSPC proliferation in the adult SVZ, ultimately resulting in collapsed neurogenesis in the olfactory bulb. Notably, Rbm24 played a specific role in maintaining Notch1 mRNA stability in adult NSPCs. The Rbm24/Notch1 signaling axis was significantly downregulated in the SVZ of PD mice. Remarkably, overexpression of Rbm24 rescued disruption of adult neurogenesis and olfactory dysfunction in PD mice, and these effects were hindered by DAPT, a potent inhibitor of Notch1. Conclusions: Our findings highlight the critical role of the Rbm24/Notch1 signaling axis in regulating adult SVZ neurogenesis under physiological and pathological circumstances. This provides valuable insights into the dynamic regulation of NSPC homeostasis and offers a potential targeted intervention for PD and related neurological disorders.

BACKGROUND: Abiotic stress seriously affects the growth and yield of crops. It is necessary to search and utilize novel abiotic stress resistant genes for 2.0 breeding programme in quinoa. In this study, the impact of drought stress on glucose metabolism were investigated through transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses in quinoa seeds. Candidate drought tolerance genes on glucose metabolism pathway were verified by qRT-PCR combined with yeast expression system. RESULTS: From 70 quinoa germplasms, drought tolerant material M059 and drought sensitive material M024 were selected by comprehensive evaluation of drought resistance. 7042 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were indentified through transcriptomic analyses. Gene Ontology (GO) analysis revealed that these DEGs were closely related to carbohydrate metabolic process, phosphorus-containing groups, and intracellular membrane-bounded organelles. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis detected that DEGs were related to pathways involving carbohydrate metabolisms, glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Twelve key differentially accumulated metabolites (DAMs), (D-galactose, UDP-glucose, succinate, inositol, D-galactose, D-fructose-6-phosphate, D-glucose-6-phosphate, D-glucose-1-phosphate, dihydroxyacetone phosphate, ribulose-5-phosphate, citric acid and L-malate), and ten key candidate DEGs (CqAGAL2, CqINV, CqFrK7, CqCELB, Cqbg1x, CqFBP, CqALDO, CqPGM, CqIDH3, and CqSDH) involved in drought response were identified. CqSDH, CqAGAL2, and Cqß-GAL13 were candidate genes that have been validated in both transcriptomics and yeast expression screen system. CONCLUSION: These findings provide a foundation for elucidating the molecular regulatory mechanisms governing glucose metabolism in quinoa seeds under drought stress, providing insights for future research exploring responses to drought stress in quinoa.

Head-direction (HD) cells are a fundamental component in the hippocampal-entorhinal circuit for spatial navigation and help maintain an internal sense of direction to anchor the orientation in space. A classical HD cell robustly increases its firing rate when the head is oriented toward a specific direction, with each cell tuned to only one direction. Although unidirectional HD cells are reported broadly across multiple brain regions, computation modelling has predicted the existence of multiple equilibrium states of HD network, which has yet to be proven. In this study, a novel HD variant of bipolar HD cells in the medial entorhinal cortex (MEC) are identified that exhibit stable double-peaked directional tuning properties. The bipolar patterns remain stable in the darkness and across environments of distinct geometric shapes. Moreover, bipolar HD cells co-rotate coherently with unipolar HD cells to anchor the external visual cue. The discovery reveals a new spatial cell type of bipolar HD cells, whose unique activity patterns may comprise a potential building block for a sophisticated local neural circuit configuration for the internal representation of direction. These findings may contribute to the understanding of how the brain processes spatial information by shedding light on the role of bipolar HD cells in this process.

Aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a key transcription factor that modulates the differentiation of T helper 17 (Th17) cells. How AhR is regulated at the post-translational level in Th17 cells remains largely unclear. Here we identify USP21 as a newly defined deubiquitinase of AhR. We demonstrate that USP21 interacts with and stabilizes AhR by removing the K48-linked polyubiquitin chains from AhR. Interestingly, USP21 inhibits the transcriptional activity of AhR in a deubiquitinating-dependent manner. USP21 deubiquitinates AhR at the K432 residue, and the maintenance of ubiquitination on this site is required for the intact transcriptional activity of AhR. Moreover, the deficiency of USP21 promotes the differentiation of Th17 cells both in vitro and in vivo. Consistently, adoptive transfer of USP21 deficient naïve CD4+ T cells elicits more severe colitis in Rag1-/- recipients. Therefore, our study reveals a novel mechanism in which USP21 deubiquitinates AhR and negatively regulates the differentiation of Th17 cells.

Acne is a chronic inflammatory skin disease that primarily affects adolescents and is attributed to various factors, including hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and environmental influences. It typically manifests in areas rich in sebaceous glands such as the face, chest, and back. Symptoms of acne can range from mild to severe and may present as pimples, pustules, nodules, cysts, and scarring. The appearance of acne can significantly impact both the physical and mental well-being of patients, potentially leading to feelings of anxiety, depression, and social withdrawal. The pathogenesis of acne is multifaceted involving genetic predisposition as well as environmental factors such as hormonal imbalances, inflammation, abnormal follicular sebaceous unit keratinization, proliferation of follicular microorganisms like Propionibacterium acnes, increased sebum production, and dietary influences. Traditional treatment methods for acne include topical drug therapy, oral drug therapy, photoelectric therapy, and chemical peeling. With ongoing research into the pathogenesis of acne, treatment methods are rapidly evolving with novel antibiotics, probiotics, biological agents, topical anti-androgen drugs, topical vitamin A acid metabolism blockers, antimicrobial peptides, immunotherapy, micro-needling, and micro-needling patches. This article aims to provide a comprehensive review of recent advancements in acne treatment.

Renal primitive neuroectodermal tumor(rPNET) is an extremely rare and distinct entity that can be mistaken for a variety of other round cell tumors. Findings from fine needle aspiration cytology have been reported, but there have been no reports of PNET cytomorphological features in urine cytology specimen. Here, we report a case of PNET characterized by urine cytology. A 24-year-old girl presented with hematuria for half a month. Computed tomography showed a large tumor involving the upper pole of the right kidney. Urinary cytology exhibited highly cellular clusters composed of small, round, atypical cells with little cytoplasm and a high nuclear/cytoplasmic ratio. Following a right nephrectomy, the biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of rPNET. Additionally, immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining of the decolorized liquid-based cytology slide was positive for CD99, further confirming the diagnosis through urine cytology. Our observations suggest that urinary cytology in combination with cytological morphology and immunocytochemistry may be a potentially useful method for the detection of PNET.

BACKGROUND: Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) increase gradually and have become a public health problem in the world. UU, CT, NG, and MG are four common STI pathogens. Our retrospective study analyzed the clinical situation and the laboratory data of patients infected with the four pathogens. The prevalence of the four pathogens, detected in urine and genital tract secretion, was studied in Hangzhou, China. METHODS: A total of 3,168 male and female patients were randomly selected from February 2023 to February 2024. Urine and genital secretions were collected, and four STI pathogens were controlled for detection. Data were collected from the hospital's electronic medical records, and SPSS 25.0 software was used to perform a statistical analysis. RESULTS: Among 3,168 patients, a total of 1,527 were detected as positive, and the positive rate was 48.20%. The age of patients ranged from 13 - 98 years, with an average age of 45.6. The total of patients consisted of 2,191 males and 977 females, which had a significant difference (p < 0.05). Specimens were mainly collected from the Department of Dermatovenerology, Urological Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and so on. The positive rate was statistically different between male and female patients (p < 0.05). Single infection performed a main role and accounted for 79.57% of all of the positive patients. In the ≤ 20 age group, the positive rate was the highest and was as high as 77.65%. In detail, single infection caused by UU dominated, especially in the 21 - 30 age group. Double infection caused by UU and CT and triple infection caused by UU, CT, and NG were the majority, both especially in the 21 - 30 age group. There were significant differences in the positive rates in the different age groups and in the four pathogens (p < 0.05). Quadruple infection was very rare and had only been detected in one patient. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of the four pathogens in Hangzhou was different from other regions. More male than female patients, more single than multiple infections, and more single and multiple infections occurring in young people were the features in Hangzhou. The study would provide reference for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of STI.
