Background: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a widely employed clinical procedure for treating various aortic pathologies. However, some patients require subsequent surgical interventions post-TEVAR, particularly due to life-threatening complications such as aortic dissection. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and prognosis associated with additional aortic surgeries following TEVAR. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 21 patients who underwent aortic surgery after TEVAR at Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital between September 2016 and August 2020. By compiling and reviewing perioperative data, we assessed surgical-related complications and survival rates. Results: Among the 21 patients, 95.2% were male, with an average age of 53 years. Preoperative comorbidities included hypertension in 15 individuals, abdominal aortic aneurysm in one patient, and coronary heart disease in two patients. The primary complications of TEVAR were stent leakage and retrograde aortic dissection, with the latter being the predominant type in subsequent aortic surgeries. The mean duration of aortic clamping during surgery was 130.0 minutes, with a deep hypothermic circulatory arrest time of 8.5 minutes. Postoperatively, two patients suffered in-hospital mortality, one developed renal dysfunction, four required re-entry into the operating room for further treatment, and the average length of hospital stay was 20 days. Following discharge, 14.3% of patients experienced complications, with central nervous system symptoms being the most prevalent. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis indicated a 5-year survival rate of 85.7%. Conclusions: Aortic surgical intervention following TEVAR is a safe therapeutic approach that can improve patient prognosis. However, meticulous management of the perioperative period is crucial for reducing the risk of complications and improving survival rates. This study provides valuable insights into aortic surgery post-TEVAR, but large-scale research is needed to validate these findings.

OBJECTIVE: Whole exome sequencing (WES) is becoming more widely used as a diagnostic tool in the field of medicine. In this article, we reported the diagnostic yield of WES and mitochondrial genome assessment in 2226 consecutive cases in a single clinical laboratory. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive WES reports from 2226 patients with various genetic disorders. WES-process was focused exclusively on the probands and aimed at a higher diagnostic capacity. We determined the diagnostic rate of WES overall and by phenotypic category, mode of inheritance, mitochondrial genome variant, and copy number variants (CNVs). RESULTS: Among the 2226 patients who had diagnostic WES proband-only, the overall diagnostic yield of WES was 34.59% (770/2226). The highest diagnostic yield was observed in autosomal dominant disorders, at 45.58% (351/770), followed by autosomal recessive at 31.95%(246/770), X-linked disorder at 9.61%(74/770), and mitochondrial diseases at a notably lower 0.65%(5/770). The 12.21% (94/770) diagnoses were based on a total of 94 copy number variants reported from WES data. CNVs in children accounted for 67.02% of the total CNVs. While majority of the molecular diagnoses were related to nuclear genes, the inclusion of mitochondrial genome sequencing in the WES test contributed to five diagnoses. all mitochondrial diseases were identified in adults. CONCLUSIONS: The proband-only WES provided a definitive molecular diagnosis for 34.59% of a large cohort of patients while analysis of WES simultaneously analyzed the SNVs, exons, mitochondrial genome, and CNVs, thereby improving the diagnostic yield significantly compared to the single-detection WES method; and facilitating the identification of novel candidate genes.

Small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) are a type of extracellular vesicle that carries many types of molecular information. The identification of sEVs is essential for the non-invasive detection and treatment of illnesses. Hence, there is a significant need for the development of simple, sensitive, and precise methods for sEV detection. Herein, a DNA tweezers-based assay utilizing a "turn-on" mechanism and proximity ligation was suggested for the efficient and rapid detection of sEVs through amplified fluorescence. The target facilitates the proximity combination of the C1 probe and C2 probe, resulting in the formation of a complete extended sequence. The elongated sequence can cyclically initiate the hairpin probe (HP), leading to the activation of DNA tweezers. An excellent linear correlation was achieved, with a limit of detection of 57 particles per µL. Furthermore, it has been effectively employed to analyze sEVs under intricate experimental conditions, demonstrating a promising and pragmatic prospect for future applications. Given that the identification of sEVs was successfully accomplished using a single-step method that exhibited exceptional sensitivity and strong resistance to interference, the proposed technique has the potential to provide a beneficial platform for accurate recognition of sEVs and early detection of diseases.

OBJECTIVES: Endocardial global longitudinal strain (endo-GLS) measured with echocardiography (echo) has been demonstrated to be associated with myocardial fibrosis (MF) and is a prognostic predictor in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Late gadolinium enhancement cardiac magnetic resonance (LGE-CMR) imaging showed that MF is primarily located in the myocardial layer of the extremely hypertrophic septal or ventricular wall. We hypothesized that GLS of the myocardial layer (myo-GLS) is more strongly correlated with the extent of LGE (%LGE) and is a more powerful prognostic factor than endo-GLS. METHODS: A total of 177 inpatients (54.0 [IQR: 43.0, 64.0] years, female 37.3%) with HCM were retrospectively included from May 2019 to April 2021. Among them, 162 patients underwent echocardiographic examination and contrast-enhanced CMR within 7 days. Myo-GLS and %LGE were blindly assessed in a core laboratory. All the patients were followed after they were discharged. RESULTS: During a mean follow-up of 33.77 [IQR 30.05, 35.40] months, 14 participants (7.91%) experienced major adverse cardiac events (MACE). The MACE (+) group showed lower absolute endo-GLS and myo-GLS than the MACE (-) group. Myo-GLS was more associated with %LGE (r = -.68, P < .001) than endo-GLS (r = -.64, P < .001). Cox multivariable analysis indicated that absolute myo-GLS was independently associated with MACE (adjusted hazard ratio = .75, P < .05). Myo-GLS was better than endo-GLS at detecting MACE (+) patients (-8.64%, AUC .939 vs. - 16.375%, AUC .898, P < .05). CONCLUSIONS: Myo-GLS is a stronger predictor of MACE than endo-GLS in patients with HCM and is highly correlated with %LGE.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) significantly impairs the functionality and number of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) and resident endothelial cells, critical for vascular repair and regeneration, exacerbating the risk of vascular complications. GLP-1 receptor agonists, like dulaglutide, have emerged as promising therapeutic agents due to their multifaceted effects, including the enhancement of EPC activity and protection of endothelial cells. This study investigates dulaglutide's effects on peripheral blood levels of CD34+ and CD133+ cells in a mouse model of lower limb ischemia and its protective mechanisms against high-glucose-induced damage in endothelial cells. Results demonstrated that dulaglutide significantly improves blood flow, reduces tissue damage and inflammation in ischemic limbs, and enhances glycemic control. Furthermore, dulaglutide alleviated high-glucose-induced endothelial cell damage, evident from improved tube formation, reduced reactive oxygen species accumulation, and restored endothelial junction integrity. Mechanistically, dulaglutide mitigated mitochondrial fission in endothelial cells under high-glucose conditions, partly through maintaining SIRT1 expression, which is crucial for mitochondrial dynamics. This study reveals the potential of dulaglutide as a therapeutic option for vascular complications in T2DM patients, highlighting its role in improving endothelial function and mitochondrial integrity.

The chemical form and physiological activity of iron (Fe) in soil are dependent on soil pH and redox potential (Eh), and Fe levels in soils are frequently elevated to the point of causing Fe toxicity in plants, with inhibition of normal physiological activities and of growth and development. In this review, we describe how iron toxicity triggers important physiological changes, including nitric-oxide (NO)-mediated potassium (K+) efflux at the tips of roots and accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen (RNS) in roots, resulting in physiological stress. We focus on the root system, as the first point of contact with Fe in soil, and describe the key processes engaged in Fe transport, distribution, binding, and other mechanisms that are drawn upon to defend against high-Fe stress. We describe the root-system regulation of key physiological processes and of morphological development through signaling substances such as ethylene, auxin, reactive oxygen species, and nitric oxide, and discuss gene-expression responses under high Fe. We especially focus on studies on the physiological and molecular mechanisms in rice and Arabidopsis under high Fe, hoping to provide a valuable theoretical basis for improving the ability of crop roots to adapt to soil Fe toxicity.

Ammonium (NH4+) concentrations in rice fields show heterogeneous spatial distribution under the combined influences of nitrogen fertilizer application and modern agronomic practices. However, the characteristics and mechanisms of rice roots in response to heterogeneous NH4+ supply are not well understood. Here, we found a systemic response of rice roots to heterogeneous and high (10 mM) NH4+ supply using a split-root experiment, and show root growth on the NH4+-free (NO3-) side was also inhibited by localized high-NH4+ supply. Moreover, OsEIL1 (encoding a core transcription factor in the ethylene signaling pathway) was found to be involved in the response of rice roots to heterogeneous NH4+. OsEIL1 mutation significantly increased the inhibitory effect of localized high-NH4+ on root growth of the NO3- side, as well as significantly increased NH4+ efflux there. Furthermore, our results indicate that the mitigating effect of OsEIL1 on NH4+ efflux is related to the regulated expression of OsVTC1-3 (encoding a GDP-mannose pyrophosphorylase). These findings provide insight into the mechanisms by which OsEIL1 responds to heterogeneous high NH4+ and contribute to our understanding of rice adaptation to heterogeneous NH4+ supply.

Improving nitrogen-use efficiency is an important path toward enhancing crop yield and alleviating the environmental impacts of fertilizer use. Ammonium (NH4+) is the energetically preferred inorganic N source for plants. The interaction of NH4+ with other nutrients is a chief determinant of ammonium-use efficiency (AUE) and of the tipping point toward ammonium toxicity, but these interactions have remained ill-defined. Here, we report that iron (Fe) accumulation is a critical factor determining AUE and have identified a substance that can enhance AUE by manipulating Fe availability. Fe accumulation under NH4+ nutrition induces NH4+ efflux in the root system, reducing both growth and AUE in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana). Low external availability of Fe and a low plant Fe status substantially enhance protein N-glycosylation through a Vitamin C1-independent pathway, thereby reducing NH4+ efflux to increase AUE during the vegetative stage in Arabidopsis under elevated NH4+ supply. We confirm the validity of the iron-ammonium interaction in the important crop species lettuce (Lactuca sativa). We further show that dolomite can act as an effective substrate to subdue Fe accumulation under NH4+ nutrition by reducing the expression of Low Phosphate Root 2 and acidification of the rhizosphere. Our findings present a strategy to improve AUE and reveal the underlying molecular-physiological mechanism.

INTRODUCTION: Aspergillus endocarditis is a rare fungal infection associated with a poor prognosis. Most cases of Aspergillus endocarditis involve prosthetic valves, with native valve involvement being rarely reported. CASE PRESENTATION: A 53-year-old asian female patient presented with fever, chills, dyspnea, generalized fatigue, and significant weight loss one month after undergoing left lower lobectomy for a pulmonary abscess. Echocardiogram showed a large mobile vegetation with a broad base on the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve, resembling atrial myxoma. Despite negative blood cultures, circulating DNA of Aspergillus fumigatus was detected by metagenome Next Generation Sequencing, prompting the initiation of empiric antifungal therapy with voriconazole. Emergency surgery, involving thorough debridement and mitral valve replacement, was successfully performed. Indefinite fungal suppression therapy with oral voriconazole is continued to mitigate the risk of recurrence. The patient survived with no signs of Aspergillus disease recurrence for four years. CLINICAL DISCUSSION: Diagnosis of Aspergillus endocarditis requires a high index of suspicion and is often delayed due to consistently negative results from blood cultures. Non-culture-based methods, particularly metagenome Next-Generation Sequencing, play a crucial role in early diagnosis and therapeutic decision-making. Surgical debridement and valve replacement are imperative for survival in cases of Aspergillus endocarditis. Voriconazole should be considered the primary fungicidal agent for its treatment. Moreover, lifelong fungal suppression therapy is strongly recommended for all survivors to ensure long-term survival and minimize the risk of recurrence. CONCLUSION: Despite grim prognosis associated with Aspergillus endocarditis, patients can attain long-term survival through meticulous surgical debridement and lifelong antifungal therapy.

Background: Intuition may play a role in clinical practice. This prospective cohort study aimed to explore whether surgeons' intuition is valid in predicting the operative mortality of acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). Methods: After admission (before surgery), attending surgeons were asked to rate the mortality on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 to 3 representing unlikely, 4-6 possible, and 7-10 very likely. The area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed to assess the accuracy of prediction models. Results: A significantly higher Surgeon's Score [5.0 (2.0, 8.0) vs. 8.0 (7.0, 10.0)] was observed in the mortality group, compared to the survival group. The odds ratio (OR) for Surgeon's Score was 1.32 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.09-1.66, P=0.009]. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression picked the following variables as significant predictors for early mortality of ATAAD: Surgeon's Score, Penn classification, age, aortic regurgitation, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, platelet count, and ejection fraction. The AUC for the German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A (GERAADA) score and Surgeon's Score were 0.740 (95% CI: 0.625-0.854), and 0.710 (95% CI: 0.586-0.833), respectively. The combined model of GERAADA score and Surgeon's Score yielded an AUC of up to 0.761 (95% CI: 0.638-0.884). Conclusions: Intuition certainly has a place alongside evidence-based medicine. The duet of intuition and statistics-based scoring systems allows us to make more accurate predictions, potentially resulting in more rational clinical decisions.

OBJECTIVES: We used the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) risk index to determine risk factors associated with surgical site infections (SSIs) following gynecologic surgeries. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted based on the medical records of 185 patients with SSIs, following gynecologic surgeries at a Grade A tertiary gynecologic and obstetric hospital in southwest China during September 2013-June 2021. RESULTS: Suspected risk factors associated with SSIs were: length of hospital stay, age, whether the patient had cancer, whether the patient had chemotherapy or high-dose antibiotic therapy before surgery, duration of surgery, amount of blood loss, and whether a blood transfusion was done. It was found that SSIs were more likely to occur in cancer patients with an NNIS risk index score of 1 and in patients with preoperative chemotherapy and an NNIS risk index score of 2. Among the patients with an NNIS risk index score of 2, the older the patient, the higher incidence of SSIs. CONCLUSIONS: Gynecologic surgery teams should pay more attention to the independent risk factors associated with SSIs determined by the NNIS risk index score to prevent SSIs following gynecologic surgeries, thus ensuring patient safety.

Background: Thoracic aortic dissection (TAD) is a very serious vascular condition that requires immediate treatment. Phenotypic conversion of human aortic smooth muscle cells (HASMCs) has been reported to be a causal factor for TAD development. Genetic variations affecting RNA modification may play a functional role in TAD. In this study, we aimed to explore the potential role of the methyltransferase like 3 (METTL3) and notch homolog 1 (NOTCH1) N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification mechanisms in HASMCs. Methods: HASMCs were cultured. METTL3 was knocked down and overexpressed. Then, both METTL3 and NOTCH1 were simultaneously knocked down in HASMCs. HASMC proliferation was determined using Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8). METTL3, NOTCH1, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA), smooth muscle protein 22-alpha (SM22α), and calponin expressions were monitored with quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blotting. An m6A dot blot assay was used to examine the m6A modification levels. The NOTCH1 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) m6A modification was analyzed using SRAMP and RMBase v. 2.0. A methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) assay was used to evaluate the METTL3 overexpression effect on m6A modification of NOTCH1 messenger RNA (mRNA). A dual-luciferase assay was used to investigate the effect of METTL3 binding of the NOTCH1 mRNA m6A modification site. YTH domain family 2 (YTHDF2)-RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) was used to detect the change in YTHDF2's ability to bind to NOTCH1 mRNA after METTL3 overexpression. Results: Overexpression of METTL3 inhibited α-SMA, SM22α, calponin, and NOTCH1 expressions and promoted HASMC proliferation. Knocking down METTL3 had the opposite effect. The cointerference of the METTL3 and NOTCH1 results suggested that METTL3 regulated NOTCH1, contributing to HASMC phenotypic changes. The MeRIP assay showed that the m6A modification of NOTCH1 mRNA increased after METTL3 overexpression. The dual-luciferase assay indicated that the NOTCH1 mRNA m6A modification site and METTL3 overexpression promoted NOTCH1 mRNA degradation. YTHDF2-RIP further demonstrated that the binding ability of YTHDF2 and NOTCH1 mRNA was enhanced after METTL3 overexpression. Conclusions: METTL3 regulated the phenotypic changes of HASMC by upregulating m6A modification of NOTCH1 and inhibiting NOTCH1.

Background: Existing reporting guidelines pay insufficient attention to the detail and comprehensiveness reporting of surgical technique. The Surgical techniqUe rePorting chEcklist and standaRds (SUPER) aims to address this gap by defining reporting standards for surgical technique. The SUPER guideline intends to apply to articles that encompass surgical technique in any study design, surgical discipline, and stage of surgical innovation. Methods: Following the EQUATOR (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research) Network approach, 16 surgeons, journal editors, and methodologists reviewed existing reporting guidelines relating to surgical technique, reviewed papers from 15 top journals, and brainstormed to draft initial items for the SUPER. The initial items were revised through a three-round Delphi survey from 21 multidisciplinary Delphi panel experts from 13 countries and regions. The final SUPER items were formed after an online consensus meeting to resolve disagreements and a three-round wording refinement by all 16 SUPER working group members and five SUPER consultants. Results: The SUPER reporting guideline includes 22 items that are considered essential for good and informative surgical technique reporting. The items are divided into six sections: background, rationale, and objectives (items 1 to 5); preoperative preparations and requirements (items 6 to 9); surgical technique details (items 10 to 15); postoperative considerations and tasks (items 16 to 19); summary and prospect (items 20 and 21); and other information (item 22). Conclusions: The SUPER reporting guideline has the potential to guide detailed, comprehensive, and transparent surgical technique reporting for surgeons. It may also assist journal editors, peer reviewers, systematic reviewers, and guideline developers in the evaluation of surgical technique papers and help practitioners to better understand and reproduce surgical technique. Background: We studied acute lung injury (ALI) in thoracic aortic disease (TAD) patients and investigated the predictive effect of interleukin-6 (IL-6) in acute lung injury after thoracic aortic disease. Methods: Data on 188 TAD patients, who underwent surgery between January 2016 to December 2021 at our hospital, were enrolled in. We analyzed acute lung injury using two patient groups. Patients with No-ALI were 65 and those with ALI were 123. Univariate logistic, LASSO binary logistic regression model and multivariable logistic regression analysis were performed for acute lung injury. Results: Preoperative IL-6 level was lower (15.80[3.10,43.30] vs. 47.70[21.40,91.60] pg/ml, p < 0.001) in No-ALI group than in ALI group. The cut-off points, determined by the ROC curve, were preoperative IL-6 > 18 pg/ml (area under the curve: AUC = 0.727). Univariate logistic regression analysis showed 19 features for TAD appeared to be early postoperative risk factors of acute lung injury. Using LASSO binary logistic regression, 19 features were reduced to 9 potential predictors (i.e., Scrpost + PLTpost + CPB > 182 min + D-dimerpost + D-dimerpre + Hypertension + Age > 58 years + IL6 > 18 pg/ml + IL6). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that Postoperative creatinine, CPB > 182 min and IL-6 > 18 pg/ml were early postoperative risk factors for ALI after TAD, and the odds ratios (ORs) of postoperative creatinine, CPB > 182 min and IL-6 > 18 pg/ml were 1.006 (1.002-1.01), 4.717 (1.306-19.294) and 2.96 (1.184-7.497), respectively. When postoperative creatinine, CPB > 182 min and IL-6 > 18 pg/ml (AUC = 0.819), the 95% confidence interval [CI] was 0.741 to 0.898. Correction curves were nearly diagonal, suggesting that the nomogram fit well. The DCA curve was then drawn to demonstrate clinical applicability. The DCA curve showed that the threshold probability of a patient is in the range of 30% to 90%. Conclusions: The inclusion of interleukin-6 demonstrated good performance in predicting ALI after TAD surgery.

Background: The weekend effect refers to the mortality difference for patients admitted/operated on weekends compared to those on weekdays. The study aimed to provide new evidence on the impact of the weekend effect on acute type A aortic dissection (ATAAD). Methods: Primary endpoints were operative mortality, stroke, paraplegia, and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). A meta-analysis of current evidence on the weekend effect was first conducted. Analyses based on single-center data (retrospective, case-control study) were further performed. Results: A total of 18,462 individuals were included in the meta-analysis. The pooled results showed that mortality was not significantly higher for ATAAD on weekends compared to that on weekdays [odds ratio (OR): 1.16, 95% CI: 0.94-1.43]. The single-center cohort included 479 patients, which also showed no significant differences in primary and secondary outcomes between the two groups. The unadjusted OR for weekend group over weekday group was 0.90 (95% CI: 0.40-1.86, P=0.777). The adjusted OR for weekend group was 0.94 (95% CI: 0.41-2.02, P=0.880) controlling for significant preoperative factors, and 0.75 (95% CI: 0.30-1.74, P=0.24) controlling for significant preoperative and operative factors altogether. In PSM matched cohort, the operative mortality was still comparable between the weekend group [10 (7.2%)] and weekday group [9 (6.5%)] (P=1.000). No significant survival difference was observed between the two groups (P=0.970). Conclusions: The weekend effect was not found to be applicable to ATAAD. However, clinicians should be cautious of the weekend effect as it is disease-specific and may vary across healthcare systems.

Background: Surgical technique plays an essential role in achieving good health outcomes. However, the quality of surgical technique reporting remains heterogeneous. Reporting checklists could help authors to describe the surgical technique more transparently and effectively, as well as to assist reviewers and editors evaluate it more informatively, and promote readers to better understand the technique. We previously developed SUPER (surgical technique reporting checklist and standards) to assist authors in reporting their research that contains surgical technique more transparently. However, further explanation and elaboration of each item are needed for better understanding and reporting practice. Methods: We searched surgical literature in PubMed, Google Scholar and journal websites published up to January 2023 to find multidiscipline examples in various article types for each SUPER item. Results: We explain the 22 items of the SUPER and provide rationales item by item alongside. We provide 69 examples from 53 literature that present optimal reporting of the 22 items. Article types of examples include pure surgical technique, and case reports, observational studies and clinical trials that contain surgical technique. Examples are multidisciplinary, including general surgery, orthopaedical surgery, cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, neurological surgery, oncogenic surgery, and emergency surgery etc. Conclusions: Along with SUPER article, this explanation and elaboration file can promote deeper understanding on the SUPER items. We hope that the article could further guide surgeons and researchers in reporting, and assist editors and peer reviewers in reviewing manuscripts related to surgical technique.

Diameter-based criterion have been widely adopted for preventive surgery of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA). However, recent and growing evidence has shown that diameter-based methods may not be sufficient for identifying patients who are at risk of an ATAA. In this study, fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analysis was performed on one-hundred ATAA geometries reconstructed from clinical data to examine the relationship between hemodynamic conditions, ascending aortic volume (AAV), ascending aortic curvature, and aortic ratios measured from the reconstructed 3D models. The simulated hemodynamic and biomechanical parameters were compared among different groups of ATAA geometries classified based on AAV. The ATAAs with enlarged AAV showed significantly compromised hemodynamic conditions and higher mechanical wall stress. The maximum oscillatory shear index (OSI), particle residence time (PRT) and wall stress (WS) were significantly higher in enlarged ATAAs compared with controls (0.498 [0.497, 0.499] vs 0.499 [0.498, 0.499], p = 0.002, 312.847 [207.445, 519.391] vs 996.047 [640.644, 1573.140], p < 0.001, 769.680 [668.745, 879.795] vs 1072.000 [873.060, 1280.000] kPa, p < 0.001, respectively). Values were reported as median with interquartile range (IQR). AAV was also found to be more strongly correlated with these parameters compared to maximum diameter. The correlation coefficient between AAV and average WS was as high as 0.92 (p < 0.004), suggesting that AAV might be a feasible risk identifier for ATAAs. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: Ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm is associated with the risk of dissection or rupture, creating life-threatening conditions. Current surgical intervention guidelines are mostly diameter based. Recently, many studies proposed to incorporate other morphological parameters into the current clinical guidelines to better prevent severe adverse aortic events like rupture or dissection. The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the relationship between morphological parameters and hemodynamic parameters in ascending aortic aneurysms using fluid-solid-interaction analysis on patient-specific geometries. Our results suggest that ascending aortic volume may be a better indicator for surgical intervention as it shows a stronger association with pathogenic hemodynamic conditions.
