RESUMEN

The construction of road infrastructure has resulted in the degradation of wildlife habitat and the decrease of ecological network connectivity and stability. Studying the impacts of road infrastructure on wildlife life and migration is significant for regional wildlife conservation and ecological network optimization. We assessed the impacts of road infrastructure on habitat suitability using the MaxEnt model based on wildlife occurrence point data in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. We constructed the ecological networks and identified ecological breakpoints using the minimum cumulative resistance model, and compared the ecological network connectivity of different scenarios with the landscape connectivity index and graph theory index. The results showed that railway and motorway significantly affected habitat suitability, causing a decrease in wildlife habitat suitability. Affected by road infrastructure, the fragmentation of ecological sources intensified, the resistance of ecological corridors increased, and the ecological network connectivity and stability significantly decreased. A total of 536 ecological breakpoints were identified, which were concentrated in the area adjacent to ecological sources. The results would provide important scientific references for wildlife habitat conservation and ecological restoration in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

RESUMEN

In photoelectrochemical cells, promising devices for directly converting solar energy into storable chemical fuels, the spatial variation of the electrostatic potential across the semiconductor-electrolyte junction is the key parameter that determines the cell performance. In principle, electric field induced second harmonic generation (EFISH) provides a contactless in situ spectroscopic tool to measure the spatial variation of electrostatic potential. However, the total second harmonic generation (SHG) signal contains the contributions of the EFISH signals of semiconductor space charge layer and the electric double layer, in addition to the SHG signal of the electrode surface. The interference of these complex quantities hinders their analysis. In this work, to understand and deconvolute their contributions to the total SHG signals, bias-dependent SHG measurements are performed on the rutile TiO2(100)-electrolyte junction as a function of light polarization and crystal azimuthal angle (angle of the incident plane relative to the crystal [001] axis). A quadratic response between SHG intensity and the applied potential is observed in both the accumulation and depletion regions of TiO2. The relative phase difference and amplitude ratio are extracted at selected azimuthal angles and light polarizations. At 0° azimuthal angle and s-in-p-out polarization, the SHG intensity minimum has the best match with the TiO2 flatband potential due to the orthogonal relative phase difference between bias-dependent and bias-independent SHG terms. We further measure the pH-dependent flatband potential and probe the photovoltage under open circuit conditions using the EFISH technique, demonstrating the capability of this contactless method for measuring electrostatic potential at semiconductor-electrolyte junctions.

RESUMEN

Utilizing Diesel Oxidation Catalysts (DOC) to partially oxidize NO to NO2 is a crucial step in controlling NOx emissions from diesel engines. However, enhancing both catalytic activity and hydrothermal stability remains a significant challenge. Benefiting from abundant asymmetric oxygen vacancies and increased Mn4+ content, MnRE0.5Zr0.5 exhibits superior NO oxidation performance (T63 = 337 °C) and hydrothermal aging resistance (T52 = 340 °C) compared to the undoped sample (T53 = 365 °C). XPS, Raman, TPR, and XAS are employed to verify the elevation of oxygen vacancy concentration and Mn valence state modulation due to Zr introduction. Furthermore, compared to MnRE (1.36 eV), the formation energy of oxygen vacancies in MnRE0.5Zr0.5 is significantly reduced (0.17 eV). This work elucidates the dual regulatory role of Zr in the Mn-RE-Zr ternary system, providing theoretical support and guidance for the design of catalysts for atmospheric pollutant purification and industrial catalysis.

RESUMEN

Background and objective: The B19 virus is mainly transmitted through the respiratory tract; however, studies have shown that it can also be transmitted through blood transfusions or plasma products. This study investigated B19V antibodies, DNA, and gene typing in blood donors at a central blood station in China to evaluate the status of B19V infection. Materials and methods: A total of 7728 samples from Suzhou Blood Center were collected from July 2022 to April 2023. Samples were detected for the B19V DNA using real-time polymerase chain reaction. Furthermore, 893 selected samples were screened for the seroprevalence of B19V antibodies using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The NS1-VP1u fragment of the B19V DNA-positive samples was amplified using nested PCR, and the sequences were determined. A B19V phylogenetic tree was constructed using neighborhood joint and maximum parsimony methods to discriminate genotypes using the NS1-VP1u sequences. Results: The percentages of IgG, IgM, and DNA were 19.4 %, 1.9 %, and 0.09 %, respectively. IgG positivity increased with age, and there was a significant difference among the blood groups. The IgG levels of repeat donors were greater than those of first-time donors. There were no apparent differences in the IgM levels in all the participants. Genotyping revealed that the B19 genotype was 1. Conclusions: The prevalence of B19V antibodies and DNA was lower in these areas than in rest of China, indicating that the risk of B19V transmission via transfusion may be relatively low. However, during transfusion, particular attention should be paid to the B19V-susceptible populations, especially those in high-risk groups.

RESUMEN

Background: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder in children, can be effectively alleviated by the herbal preparation Long Mu Qing Xin Mixture (LMQXM), but its mechanism has not been fully elucidated. Objective: To scrutinize the potential pharmacological mechanisms by which LMQXM improves behavior in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR/NCrl). Methods: The SHR/NCrl rats were randomly stratified into the model (SHR) group, the methylphenidate hydrochloride (MPH) group, and groups subjected to varying dosages of LMQXM into the medium dose (MD) group with a clinically effective dose, the low dose (LD) group with 0.5 times the clinically effective dose, and high dose (HD) group with 2 times the clinically effective dose. Furthermore, the WKY/NCrl rats constituted the control group. The evaluation of behavior involved the open field test and the Morris water maze test. HPLC, LC-MS, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and RT-qPCR were utilized to scrutinize the catecholamine neurotransmitter content and the expression of proteins and genes associated with the dopamine receptor D1 (DRD1)/cAMP/protein kinase A (PKA)-cAMP response element-binding (CREB) pathway in prefrontal cortex (PFC) and striatum. Results: MPH and LMQXM ameliorated hyperactivity and learning and memory deficits of SHR/NCrl rats. Among them, LMQXM-MD and MPH also upregulated dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), adenylate cyclase (AC) and cAMP levels, and the expression of proteins and genes associated with the DRD1/cAMP/PKA-CREB pathway in PFC and striatum of SHR/NCrl rats. PFC and striatum DA levels were also upregulated in the LMQXM-LD group as well as the striatum DA levels in the LMQXM-HD group, but there were no statistically significant differences in their NE levels compared to the SHR group. LMQXM-LD and LMQXM-HD also upregulated some DRD1/cAMP/PKA-CREB pathway-related proteins and gene expression, but the effects were discernibly disparate in PFC and striatum. Upon comprehensive analysis, LMQXM-MD appeared to be the most effective dose. Conclusion: Our study tentatively suggests that LMQXM may rectify hyperactivity and learning and memory deficits of SHR/NCrl rats by elevating catecholamine neurotransmitters in the PFC and striatum. This effect may be attributed to the potential activation of the DRD1/cAMP/PKA-CREB signaling pathway, which appears to achieve an optimal response at moderate doses.

RESUMEN

To achieve highly sensitive and reliable detection of apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1), a critical cancer diagnostic biomarker, we designed a DNA walker-based dual-mode biosensor, utilizing cellular endogenous dual enzymes (APE 1 and Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN 1)) to collaborate in activating and propelling DNA walker motion on DNA-functionalized Au nanoparticles. Incorporating both fluorescence and electrochemical detection modes, this system leverages signal amplification from DNA walker movement and cascade amplification through tandem hybridization chain reactions (HCR), achieving highly sensitive detection of APE 1. In the fluorescence mode, continuous DNA walker movement, initiated by APE1 and driven by FEN1, generates a robust signal response within a concentration range of 0.01-500 U mL-1, presenting a good linearity in the concentration range of 0.01-10 U mL-1, with a detection limit of 0.01 U mL-1. In the electrochemical detection module, the cascade upstream DNA walker and downstream HCR dual signal amplification strategy further enhances the sensitivity of APE1 detection, extending the linear range to 0.01-50 U mL-1 and reducing the detection limit to 0.002 U mL-1. Rigorous validation demonstrates the biosensor's specificity and anti-interference capability against multiple enzymes. Moreover, it effectively distinguishes cancer cells from normal cell lysates, exhibiting excellent stability and consistency in the dual-modes. Overall, our findings underscore the efficacy of the developed dual-mode biosensor for detecting APE1 in serum and cell lysates samples, indicating its potential for clinical applications in disease diagnosis.

RESUMEN

Purpose: Skin injury, often caused by physical or medical mishaps, presents a significant challenge as wound healing is critical to restore skin integrity and tissue function. However, external factors such as infection and inflammation can hinder wound healing, highlighting the importance of developing biomaterials with antibiotic and wound healing properties to treat infections and inflammation. In this study, a novel photothermal nanomaterial (MMPI) was synthesized for infected wound healing by loading indocyanine green (ICG) on magnesium-incorporated mesoporous bioactive glass (Mg-MBG) and coating its surface with polydopamine (PDA). Results: In this study, Mg-MBG and MMPI was synthesized via the sol-gel method and characterized it using various techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS) system and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The cytocompatibility of MMPI was evaluated by confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), CCK8 assay, live/dead staining and F-actin staining of the cytoskeleton. The antibacterial efficiency was assessed using bacterial dead-acting staining, spread plate method (SPM) and TEM. The impact of MMPI on macrophage polarization was initially evaluated through flow cytometry, qPCR and ELISA. Additionally, an in vivo experiment was performed on a mouse model with skin excision infected. Histological analysis and RNA-seq analysis were utilized to analyze the in vivo wound healing and immunomodulation effect. Conclusion: Collectively, the new photothermal and photodynamic nanomaterial (MMPI) can achieve low-temperature antibacterial activity while accelerating wound healing, holds broad application prospects.

RESUMEN

In the field of orthopedics, surgeons have long been facing the challenge of loosening of external fixation screws due to inherent material characteristics. Despite Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) being employed as an orthopedic implant material for many years, its bio-inert nature often hinders bone healing due to the limited bioactivity, which restricts its clinical applications. Herein, a new type of orthopedic implant (Sr-SPK) was developed by introducing strontium (Sr)-doped mesoporous bioactive glass (Sr-MBG) onto the surface of PEEK implants through a simple and feasible method. In vitro experiments revealed that Sr-SPK effectively promotes osteogenic differentiation while concurrently suppressing the formation of osteoclasts. The same results were validated in vivo with Sr-SPK significantly improving bone integration. Upon investigation, it was found that Sr-SPK promotes adhesion among bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) thereby promoting osteogenesis by activating the regulation of actin cytoskeletal and focal adhesion pathways, as identified via transcriptome analysis. In essence, these findings suggest that the newly constructed Sr-doped biofunctionalized PEEK implant developed in this research can promote osteoblast differentiation and suppress osteoclast activity by enhancing cell adhesion processes. These results underline the immense potential of such an implant for wide-ranging clinical applications in orthopedics.

RESUMEN

This study compared the biomechanical characteristics of proximal femur bionic nail (PFBN) and proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) in treating osteoporotic femoral intertrochanteric fractures using finite element analysis. Under similar bone density, the PFBN outperforms the PFNA in maximum femoral displacement, internal fixation displacement, stress distribution in the femoral head and internal fixation components, and femoral neck varus angle. As the bone density decreases, the PFBN's biomechanical advantages over PFNA become more pronounced. This finding suggests that the PFBN is superior for treating osteoporotic intertrochanteric femoral fractures.

RESUMEN

IMPORTANCE: Epidemiological evidences regarding the association between whole grain intake and the risk of new-onset hypertension are still controversial. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the relationship between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension and examine possible effect modifiers in the general population. METHODS: A total of 10,973 participants without hypertension from the China Health and Nutrition Survey were enrolled, with follow-up beginning in 1997 and ending in 2015. Whole grain intake was assessed by 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a household food inventory. Multivariable hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression model after adjusting for potential risk factors. RESULTS: During a median follow-up of 7.0 years, 3,733 participants developed new-onset hypertension. The adjusted HRs (95% CIs) were as follows: for quartile 2 (HR: 0.52; 95% CI: 0.47-0.57), quartile 3 (HR: 0.46; 95% CI: 0.42-0.51), and quartile 4 (HR: 0.35; 95% CI: 0.31-0.38), compared with quartile 1. Different types of whole grain types, including wheat (adjusted HR, 0.35; 95% CI, 0.32-0.39), maize (adjusted HR, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.42-0.59), and millet (adjusted HR, 0.38; 95% CI, 0.30-0.48), showed significant associations with a reduced risk of hypertension. The association between whole grain intake and new-onset hypertension was stronger in individuals with older age (P for interaction < 0.001) and higher BMI (P for interaction < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Higher consumption of whole grains was significantly associated with a lower risk of new-onset hypertension. This study provides further evidence supporting the importance of increasing whole grain intake for hypertension prevention among Chinese adults.

RESUMEN

Restricted by synaptic plasticity, dopamine receptor (DR) upregulation takes a long time to work. Moreover, the impact of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) on delivery efficiency restricts the development of drugs. Taking inspiration from snuff bottles, a convenient, fast-acting, and nonaddictive nasal drug delivery system has been developed to rapidly reshape the balance of synaptic transmitters. This optical and magnetic response system called CFs@DP, comprised of carbonized MIL-100 (Fe) frameworks (CFs) and domperidone (DP), which can enter the brain via nasal administration. Under dual stimulation of near-infrared (NIR) irradiation and catecholamine-induced complexation, CFs@DP disintegrates to release iron ions and DP, causing upregulation of the dopamine type 1 (D1), type 2 (D2) receptors, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) to achieve a therapeutic effect. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the DR density of mice (postnatal day 50-60) increased in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and the hippocampus (HPC) after 10 days of therapy, resulting in antidepressant-like and cognitive enhancement effects. Interestingly, the cognitive enhancement effect of CFs@DP is even working in noniron deficiency (normal fed) mice, making it a promising candidate for application in enhancing learning ability.

RESUMEN

Background: Gliomas, known for their complex and aggressive characteristics, are deeply influenced by the tumor microenvironment. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) play a vital role in shaping this environment, presenting an opportunity for novel treatment strategies. Methods: We collected six bulk RNA datasets, one single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) dataset, and gene sets related to Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs), Endothelial-Mesenchymal Transformation (EndMT), and sprouting angiogenesis. We computed enrichment scores using Gene Set Variation Analysis (GSVA) and Single-sample Gene Set Enrichment Analysis (ssGSEA). To analyze immune infiltration, we employed the CIBERSORT method. Data analysis techniques included the log-rank test, Cox regression, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Pearson correlation. For single-cell data, we utilized tools such as Seurat and CellChat for dimensionality reduction, clustering, and cell communication analysis. Results: 1. MMP14 was identified as an independent prognostic marker, highly expressed in myeloid cells in recurrent glioblastoma, highlighting these cells as functionally significant. 2. C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand (CCL) signaling from MMP14+ myeloid cells was identified as a critical immune regulatory pathway, with high C-C Motif Chemokine Receptor 1 (CCR1) expression correlating with increased M2 macrophage infiltration and PD-L1 expression. 3. Patients with high MMP14 expression showed better responses to bevacizumab combined chemotherapy. 4. Signaling pathways involving Visfatin, VEGF, and TGFb, emanating from myeloid cells, significantly impact endothelial cells. These pathways facilitate EndMT and angiogenesis in gliomas. 5. Nicotinamide Phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) showed a strong link with angiogenesis and EndMT, and its association with chemotherapy resistance and differential sensitivity to bevacizumab was evident. Conclusions: MMP14+ myeloid cells are critical in promoting tumor angiogenesis via EndMT and in mediating immunosuppression through CCL signaling in glioblastoma. MMP14 and NAMPT serve as vital clinical indicators for selecting treatment regimens in recurrent glioma. The study suggests that a combined blockade of CCR1 and CD274 could be a promising therapeutic strategy.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The relationship between whole grain intake and chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the association between whole grain intake and risk of CKD in Chinese adults. METHODS: The present cross-sectional study used data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey conducted in 2009. Whole grain intake was measured using 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls and a household food inventory. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for risk of CKD. In addition, a restricted cubic spline was used to investigate the dose‒response relationship between whole grain and risk of CKD. RESULTS: A total of 6747 participants were included, 728 of whom had CKD. Compared with those in the lowest whole grain intake group, those in the higher grain intake group had an inverse association with risk of CKD (Q2: adjusted OR 0.70, 95% CI: 0.54, 0.89; Q3: adjusted OR 0.54, 95% CI: 0.42, 0.69; and Q4: adjusted OR 0.29, 95% CI: 0.21, 0.41). The association between whole grain intake and CKD seems to be stronger for individuals who were male (P for interaction = 0.008) or smokers (P for interaction = 0.013). In addition, the restricted cubic spline suggested an obvious L-shaped correlation. CONCLUSIONS: Increased whole grain intake was associated with a decreased risk of CKD in Chinese adults.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This research aims to explore the efficiency and safety of endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery (Micro-ECIRS) composed of micro-percutaneous nephrolithotomy (Micro-perc) and retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) in the Galdakao-modified supine Valdivia (GMSV) position for a single session for the treatment of complex nephrolithiasis in children. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed patients aged < 18 years who underwent Micro-ECIRS in the GMSV position for renal stones larger than 2 cm under ultrasound guidance between August 2020 to May 2022 at our institution. RESULTS: A total of 13 patients (8 males and 5 females) received Micro-ECIRS for renal stones under ultrasound guidancewhile adopting the GMSV position. The average stone size was 2.7 cm (range: 2.1-3.7 cm). Among them, 6 patients had left kidney stones, 5 patients had right kidney stones, and 2 patients had bilateral kidney stones. The mean operative time was 70.5 min (range: 54-93 min). The mean hospital stay was 6.4 days (range: 4-9 days). The mean hemoglobin decrease was 8.2 g/L (range: 5.1-12.4 g/L). The total number of kidneys that had complete stone clearance was 8 kidneys at 48 h postoperatively, 11 kidneys at 2 weeks postoperatively, and 14 kidneys at 1 month postoperatively. CONCLUSION: Our results demonstrate that Micro-ECIRS while patients are in the GMSV position is a safe and effective method for the treatment of complex children nephrolithiasis. However, all children made three hospital visits and received anesthesia three times. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.

RESUMEN

Developing biomaterials with antimicrobial and wound-healing activities for the treatment of wound infections remains challenging. Macrophages play non-negligible roles in healing infection-related wounds. In this study, a new sequential immunomodulatory approach is proposed to promote effective and rapid wound healing using a novel hybrid hydrogel dressing based on the immune characteristics of bacteria-associated wounds. The hydrogel dressing substrate is derived from a porcine dermal extracellular matrix (PADM) and loaded with a new class of bioactive glass nanoparticles (BGns) doped with copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) ions (Cu-Zn BGns). This hybrid hydrogel demonstrates a controlled release of Cu2+ and Zn2+ and sequentially regulates the phenotypic transition of macrophages from M1 to M2 by alternately activating nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD) and inhibiting mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) signaling pathways. Additionally, its dual-temporal bidirectional immunomodulatory function facilitates enhanced antibacterial activity and wound healing. Hence, this novel hydrogel is capable of safely and efficiently accelerating wound healing during infections. As such, the design strategy provides a new direction for exploring novel immunomodulatory biomaterials to address current clinical challenges related to the treatment of wound infections.

RESUMEN

Age-Related Hearing Loss (ARHL) is a common problem in aging. Numerous longitudinal cohort studies have revealed that ARHL is closely related to cognitive function, leading to a significant risk of cognitive decline and dementia. This risk gradually increases with the severity of hearing loss. We designed dual auditory Oddball and cognitive task paradigms for the ARHL subjects, then obtained the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scale evaluation results for all the subjects. Multi-dimensional EEG characteristics helped explore potential biomarkers to evaluate the cognitive level of the ARHL group, having a significantly lower P300 peak amplitude coupled with a prolonged latency. Moreover, visual memory, auditory memory, and logical calculation were investigated during the cognitive task paradigm. In the ARHL groups, the alpha-to-beta rhythm energy ratio in the visual and auditory memory retention period and the wavelet packet entropy value within the logical calculation period were significantly reduced. Correlation analysis between the above specificity indicators and the subjective scale results of the ARHL group revealed that the auditory P300 component characteristics could assess attention resources and information processing speed. The alpha and beta rhythm energy ratio and wavelet packet entropy can become potential indicators to determine working memory and logical cognitive computation-related cognitive ability.

RESUMEN

Since microRNAs (miRNAs) are valuable biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis, the pursuit of enhanced detection sensitivity through signal amplification strategies has emerged as a prominent focus in low-abundance miRNA detection research. DNA walkers, as dynamic DNA nanodevice, have gained significant attention for their applications as signal amplification strategies. To overcome the limitations of unipedal DNA walkers with a restricted signal amplification efficiency, there is a great need for multi-pedal DNA walkers that offer improved walking and signal amplification capabilities. Here, we employed a combination of catalytic hairpin assembly (CHA) and APE1 enzymatic cleavage reactions to construct a tripedal DNA walker, driving its movement to establish a cascade signal amplification system for the electrochemical detection of miRNA-155. The biosensor utilizes tumor cell-endogenous microRNA-155 and APE1 as dual-trigger for DNA walker formation and walking movement, leading to highly efficient and controllable signal amplification. The biosensor exhibited high sensitivity, with a low detection limit of 10 pM for microRNA-155, and successfully differentiated and selectively detected microRNA-155 from other interfering RNAs. Successful detection in 20 % serum samples indicates its potential clinical application. In addition, we harnessed strand displacement reactions to create a gentle yet efficient electrode regeneration strategy, to addresses the time-consuming challenges during electrode modification processes. We have successfully demonstrated the stability of current signals even after multiple cycles of electrode regeneration. This study showcased the high-efficiency amplification potential of multi-pedal DNA walkers and the effectiveness and versatility of strand displacement in biosensing applications. It opens a promising path for developing regenerable electrochemical biosensors. This regenerable strategy for electrochemical biosensors is both label-free and cost-effective, and holds promise for detecting various disease-related RNA targets beyond its current application.

RESUMEN

Sound source localization in "cocktail-party" situations is a remarkable ability of the human auditory system. However, the neural mechanisms underlying auditory spatial attention are still largely unknown. In this study, the "cocktail-party" situations are simulated through multiple sound sources and presented through head-related transfer functions and headphones. Furthermore, the scalp time-varying network of auditory spatial attention is constructed using the high-temporal resolution electroencephalogram, and its network properties are measured quantitatively using graph theory analysis. The results show that the time-varying network of auditory spatial attention in "cocktail-party" situations is more complex and partially different than in simple acoustic situations, especially in the early- and middle-latency periods. The network coupling strength increases continuously over time, and the network hub shifts from the posterior temporal lobe to the parietal lobe and then to the frontal lobe region. In addition, the right hemisphere has a stronger network strength for processing auditory spatial information in "cocktail-party" situations, i.e., the right hemisphere has higher clustering levels, higher transmission efficiency, and more node degrees during the early- and middle-latency periods, while this phenomenon disappears and appears symmetrically during the late-latency period. These findings reveal different network patterns and properties of auditory spatial attention in "cocktail-party" situations during different periods and demonstrate the dominance of the right hemisphere in the dynamic processing of auditory spatial information.

RESUMEN

Highly selective capture of cesium (Cs+) from complex aqueous solutions has become increasingly important owing to its (133Cs) indispensable role in some cutting-edge technologies and the environmental mobility of radioactive nuclide (137Cs) from nuclear wastewater. Herein, we report the development of cation-intercalated lamellar MoS2 as an effective Cs+ adsorbent with the advantages of facile synthesis and highly tunable layer spacing. Two types of cations, including Na+ and NH4+, were employed for the intercalations between adjacent layers of MoS2. The results demonstrated that the adsorption capacity of the NH4+-intercalated material (M-NH4+, 134 mg/g) for Cs+ clearly outperformed the others due to higher loading percentages of cations and larger layer spacing. The cesium partition coefficients for M-NH4+ in the presence of 100-fold competing ions all exceed 1 × 103 mL/g. A simulated complex aqueous solution containing 15.37 mg/L Cs+ and highly excess of competing ions Li+, Na+, K+, Mg2+, and Ca2+ (20-306 times higher) was introduced to prove the practical application potential using our best-performing M-NH4+, showing a good to excellent partition ability of Cs+ among other cations, especially for Cs/K and Cs/Na with separation factors of 58 and 212, respectively. The adsorption and selectivity mechanisms were clearly elucidated using various advanced techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and Raman spectroscopy. These results revealed that the good selectivity for Cs+ can be ascribed to the differences in Lewis acidities, hydration energy, cation sizes, and in particular, the divergence of coordination modes which was successfully achieved after tuning the layer distance via the cation intercalation strategy. In addition, the material has fast kinetics (<30 min), wide range of pH tolerance (4-10), and good reusability. Overall, our studies point out that the tunable lamellar MoS2-based materials are promising adsorbents for Cs+ capture and separation.
