Aim: Plant-derived nanovesicles have emerged as potential agents for combating tumors. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effects of Panax notoginseng-derived nanovesicles (PnNVs) on the proliferation and migration of squamous cell carcinoma. Additionally, we explored the relationship between plant tuber size and the physical properties, composition and bioactivity of these nanovesicles. Methods: We isolated PnNVs from Panax notoginseng tubers of varying sizes: small-sized (s_PnNVs), medium-sized (m_PnNVs) and large-sized (l_PnNVs), and evaluated for size, potential, and morphology. Cellular uptake efficiency was assessed using confocal microscopy and flow cytometry. The ability of different PnNVs to inhibit oral squamous cell carcinoma cells was evaluated using plate cloning, CCK8 assay, and scratch healing assay. Off-target metabolomics was used to compare metabolic compounds of different PnNVs. Results: Our findings revealed that s_PnNVs exhibited lower potential but had the highest cellular uptake efficiency, whereas m_PnNVs were characterized by the smallest size and lowest cellular uptake efficiency. Notably, m_PnNVs demonstrated the most effective inhibition of squamous cell carcinoma growth and migration. Compositional analyses showed that PnNVs were rich in proteins and contained lower levels of RNA, with l_PnNVs having the highest protein content. Furthermore, untargeted metabolomics analysis revealed a significant increase in the expression of specific antitumour-related metabolites in m_PnNVs compared to s_PnNVs and l_PnNVs. Conclusion: Overall, our results underscore the influence of plant tuber size on the bioactivity of the nanovesicles from which they are derived, emphasizing its importance for experimental design and study reproducibility.

HYPOTHESIS: Hexavalent chromium, recognized as one of the most toxic heavy metals, demands the development of advanced materials capable of both adsorption and photocatalysis for effective Cr (VI) removal. EXPERIMENTS: This study successfully synthesized a two-dimensional zinc porphyrin covalent organic framework (ZnPor-COF) via a solvent-based method. Performance evaluations have demonstrated that the ZnPor-COF possesses outstanding capabilities for the adsorptive and/or photocatalytic elimination of Cr (VI). Particularly noteworthy is the observation that when adsorption and photocatalysis are coupled, the ZnPor-COF attains an exceptional 99.7 % removal rate for a Cr (VI) concentration of 30 mg/L within just 60 min, with minimal susceptibility to coexisting ions. After five consecutive cycles, the material sustains a removal efficiency of 90 %, indicative of its robust cyclability. FINDINGS: Theoretical calculations, as well as experimental validations, have indicated that the integration of Zn ions into the porphyrin COF not only results in an expanded specific surface area and an increased count of adsorption sites but also significantly improves the COF's photosensitivity and the capability for charge carrier separation. Furthermore, the core of the synergistic effect between adsorption and photocatalysis lies in the ability of photocatalysis to substantially augment the adsorption process.

BACKGROUND: The jawline and neck significantly influence facial aesthetics. Botulinum toxin and filler are highly favored as minimally invasive jawline rejuvenation procedures. However, little evidence exists on the age-related skin and superficial fat tissue transformations in healthy individuals to guide targeted interventions. METHODS: A quantitative sonographic assessment was conducted on 51 patients. Total soft tissue thickness (the skin and superficial fat compartments) was measured at eight sites along the jawline and four sites at the neck. Among them, 21 patients received botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) injections for jawline lift. Three-dimensional images and questionaries were obtained before and after the treatment. RESULTS: In this ultrasound study, total superficial soft tissue thickness decreased significantly from the prejowl sulcus to the lateral cheek, with the jowl showing the greatest thickness. Vertically, significant differences in thickness were noted between superior and inferior points, especially at the inferior prejowl sulcus for the middle-aged and the jowl for the elderly group when comparing across age groups. Soft tissue thickness at the neck decreased from zones 1 to 3, consistent in all age groups. BMI and age positively correlated with soft tissue thickness at the jawline and neck. Regarding BTX-A injections, participants described a pain-free injection process, of which 85.7% reported substantial aesthetic improvement and sharpening of the submental-cervical angle. CONCLUSIONS: This study quantified age-related changes in superficial soft tissues at the jawline and neck regions with ultrasound imaging. With aging, soft tissue thickness alters with high region-specificity. Tailoring interventions to the specific alterations within each age group can achieve optimal results with enhanced safety. This study provided a quantitative analysis of skin and superficial fat compartment thicknesses for the young, middle-aged, and elderly groups. This study illustrated how skin and superficial fat compartments change with age in a regionally specific manner for both the jawline and neck regions. This study revealed a positive association between BMI and age with skin and superficial fat tissue thicknesses, especially in areas like the jowl, submental, and neck. This study provided guidance for a safe and effective botulinum toxin. A injection method focusing on the injection depths and regions to achieve optimal jawline rejuvenation outcomes and patient experience. Cancer genomics has led to the discovery of numerous oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes that play critical roles in cancer development and progression. Oncogenes promote cell growth and proliferation, whereas tumor suppressor genes inhibit cell growth and division. The dysregulation of these genes can lead to the development of cancer. Recent studies have focused on non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), including circular RNA (circRNA), long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), and microRNA (miRNA), as therapeutic targets for cancer. In this article, we discuss the oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes of ncRNAs associated with different types of cancer and their potential as therapeutic targets. Here, we highlight the mechanisms of action of these genes and their clinical applications in cancer treatment. Understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer development and identifying specific therapeutic targets are essential steps towards the development of effective cancer treatments.

Background: Refractory gastroesophageal reflux disease (refractory GERD) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by unresponsiveness or poor efficacy to proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs). This chronic disorder substantially weakens patients' mental wellbeing and quality of life, increasing the financial burden on society. Multiple articles have been reported in this area. However, literature involving scientometric analysis of refractory GERD is absent. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the evolution of research themes and the main hotspots of refractory GERD through bibliometric methods. Methods: All documents related to refractory GERD based on the WOS Core Collection from January 2000 to November 2023 were selected for analysis. Citespace V 6.1 R6, VOSviewer V 1.6.20, and Scimago Graphica V 1.0.38 were used to perform bibliometric analysis. Results: We collected a total of 241 research articles from 36 countries and 322 institutions, contributed by over 1,000 authors. Over the last 20 years, the number of articles in this field has increased year by year, and since 2011, the number of publications has increased dramatically, with 85.89% of the papers. These countries are led by the United States and Japan. GUT had the highest number of citations and DIGESTION had the highest number of publications. Research on standardized diagnosis and management, mechanisms, novel monitoring methods, and innovative drugs and procedures for refractory GERD are the main topics and hotspots in this field. This study also found that neuroimmune interaction is closely related to refractory GERD, which may be a new direction for future mechanism research. Conclusion: Our study is the first bibliometric analysis of the global literature on refractory GERD. This research provides valuable insights for researchers, enabling them to quickly understand the research frontier and hot topics of this field.

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The association of Lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) with recurrent ischemic events in stented patients remains uncertain. So, this research aimed to investigate the impact of elevated Lp(a) levels on the occurrence of ischemic events in this specific patient population. METHODS: Totally 553 patients who underwent intracranial or extracranial artery stent implantation were included. Baseline data were collected and postoperative ischemic outcomes were followed up. Cox regression analysis was used to investigate the association between Lp(a) and outcomes, while accounting for confounding factors. Finally, we established prediction models based on nomogram. RESULTS: Of total 553 patients, a number of 107 (19.3%) experienced outcomes. These included 46 cases (34.7%) in group with elevated Lp(a) levels (>30 mg/dL) and 61 cases (18.4%) in non-elevated group (χ2=6.343, p=0.012). The group with elevated Lp(a) was 1.811 times more likely to experience ischemic events than the non-elevated group, each 1 mg/dL increase in Lp(a) resulted in a 1.008-fold increase in the recurrence rate of ischemic events. In addition, sex (male), previous history of coronary heart disease, decreased albumin, elevated very low density lipoprotein cholesterol and poorly controlled risk factors (including blood pressure and blood sugar) were also associated with a high risk of recurrent ischemic events after stent implantation. CONCLUSION: Lp(a) elevation was a significant risk factor for ischemic events in symptomatic patients who underwent intracranial or extracranial artery stenting.

Grain chalkiness directly affects the commercial value of rice. Genes related to chalkiness reported thus far have been discovered in mutants, but it has not been identified whether these genes can be used to improve rice quality by breeding. Therefore, discovering more quantitative trait loci (QTLs) or genes related to chalkiness in the rice germplasm is necessary. This study entails a genome-wide association study on the degree of endosperm chalkiness (DEC) and percentage of grains with chalkiness (PGWC) by combining 1.2 million single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with the phenotypic data of 173 rice accessions. Thirteen QTLs for DEC and nine for PGWC were identified, of which four were detected simultaneously for both DEC and PGWC; further, qDEC11/qPGWC11 was identified as the major QTL. By combining linkage disequilibrium analysis and SNP information, LOC_Os11g10170 was identified as the candidate gene for DEC. There were significant differences among the haplotypes of LOC_Os11g10170, and the Hap 1 of LOC_Os11g10170 was observed to reduce the DEC by 6.19%. The qRT-PCR results showed that the gene expression levels in accessions with high DEC values were significantly higher than those in accessions with low DEC values during days 21-42 after flowering, with a maximum at 28 days. These results provide molecular markers and germplasm resources for genetic improvement of the chalkiness-related traits in rice.

Kinases, a class of enzymes controlling various substrates phosphorylation, are pivotal in both physiological and pathological processes. Although their conserved ATP binding pockets pose challenges for achieving selectivity, this feature offers opportunities for drug repositioning of kinase inhibitors (KIs). This study presents a cost-effective in silico prediction of KIs drug repositioning via analyzing cross-docking results. We established the KIs database (278 unique KIs, 1834 bioactivity data points) and kinases database (357 kinase structures categorized by the DFG motif) for carrying out cross-docking. Comparative analysis of the docking scores and reported experimental bioactivity revealed that the Atypical, TK, and TKL superfamilies are suitable for drug repositioning. Among these kinase superfamilies, Olverematinib, Lapatinib, and Abemaciclib displayed enzymatic activity in our focused AKT-PI3K-mTOR pathway with IC50 values of 3.3, 3.2 and 5.8 µM. Further cell assays showed IC50 values of 0.2, 1.2 and 0.6 µM in tumor cells. The consistent result between prediction and validation demonstrated that repositioning KIs via in silico method is feasible.

This study investigated the relationship between A body shape index (ABSI) and bone mineral density (BMD) in older Americans and found a negative linear association, which was particularly pronounced in diabetic population. An early focus on ABSI in the elderly population will help in the prevention of osteoporosis. OBJECTIVE: A body shape index (ABSI) is an abdominal obesity index developed based on epidemiological statistics and high ABSI indicates that waist circumference (WC) is higher than expected for a given height and weight and corresponds to a more central concentration of body volume. The objective of this study was to determine whether there is a linear or nonlinear relationship between ABSI and total femur bone mineral density (BMD) in older Americans and whether the relationship between the ABSI and total femur BMD varies across populations. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was based on data from the 2007-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Weighted multiple linear regression, restricted cubic spline (RCS) curves, subgroup analysis, and interaction tests were used to examine the association between ABSI and total femur BMD. RESULTS: This study included 2505 older adults. This study found a negative linear correlation between ABSI and total femur BMD (ß = -3.2, 95%CI: -5.0, -1.4, p < 0.001). When participants were grouped according to quartiles of ABSI, those in the upper quartile had lower total femur BMD compared to those in the bottom quartile of ABSI. This negative association remained consistent across gender, age, education level, smoking, physical activity and BMI subgroups. However, in the diabetes subgroup, ABSI showed a stronger negative association with total femur BMD. CONCLUSIONS: The study shows a negative linear association between ABSI and total femur BMD in older Americans, with this negative association being stronger in the diabetic population.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of hesperidin on the liver and kidney dysfunctions induced by nickel. The mice were divided into six groups: nickel treatment with 80 mg/kg, 160 mg/kg, 320 mg/kg hesperidin groups, 0.5% CMC-Na group, nickel group, and blank control group. Histopathological techniques, biochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and the TUNEL method were used to study the changes in structure, functions, oxidative injuries, and apoptosis of the liver and kidney. The results showed that hesperidin could alleviate the weight loss and histological injuries of the liver and kidney induced by nickel, and increase the levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), alanine aminotransferase (GPT), glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT) in liver and blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr) and N-acetylglucosidase (NAG) in kidney. In addition, hesperidin could increase the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione (GSH), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the liver and kidney, decrease the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and inhibit cell apoptosis. It is suggested that hesperidin could help inhibit the toxic effect of nickel on the liver and kidney.

Species of the family Microdochiaceae (Xylariales, Sordariomycetes) have been reported from worldwide, and collected from different plant hosts. The proposed new genus and two new species, viz., Macroidriella gen. nov., M.bambusae sp. nov. and Microdochiumaustrale sp. nov., are based on multi-locus phylogenies from a combined dataset of ITS rDNA, LSU, RPB2 and TUB2 with morphological characteristics. Microdochiumsinense has been collected from diseased leaves of Phragmitesaustralis and this is the first report of the fungus on this host plant. Simultaneously, we annotated 10,372 to 11,863 genes, identified 4,909 single-copy orthologous genes, and conducted phylogenomic analysis based on genomic data. A gene family analysis was performed and it will expand the understanding of the evolutionary history and biodiversity of the Microdochiaceae. The detailed descriptions and illustrations of species are provided.

The thermal anisotropy of materials holds significant theoretical and practical implications in the domains of thermal transport and thermoelectricity. Black phosphorene, a novel two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor, is notable for its exceptional chemical and physical properties, attracting substantial attention for its thermal transport characteristics. Similar to other 2D materials, black phosphorene exhibits pronounced in-plane thermal anisotropy. Given its expanding applications in nanoelectronics, optoelectronics, and thermoelectrics, there is a growing need to manipulate its anisotropic thermal transport. Current methods for adjusting anisotropy or isotropy typically involve structural engineering or materials processing, which are often costly, time-consuming, and irreversible. In contrast, little progress has been made with methods that are intact, robust, and reversible. Driven by the intrinsic relationship between interatomic interaction-mediated phonon transport and electronic charges, we conduct a comprehensive investigation into the impact of an external electric field on the thermal transport properties of 2D black phosphorene using first-principles calculations and the phonon Boltzmann transport equation. Our findings reveal that applying an electric field in the Zigzag direction reduces the lattice thermal conductivity of black phosphorene, with the Zigzag direction being more responsive to the electric field than the Armchair direction. By adjusting the electric field to a maximum of E(f_xx) = 0.2 V Å-1, the anisotropic thermal conductivity of black phosphorene decreases by more than 28%, demonstrating effective manipulation of anisotropy. This significant transition in anisotropic thermal transport arises from the substantial reduction in thermal conductivity along the Zigzag direction at moderate electric field strengths. The underlying cause of this variation in anisotropy can be attributed to changes in group velocity, with the phonon lifetime serving as a scaling factor for reducing anisotropy. Analysis of the electronic structures shows that stronger electric fields induce more charges, enhancing the screening effect. The electric field significantly alters thermal conductivity by affecting bond ionicity and anharmonicity. Our study introduces a robust approach for tuning the anisotropy of phonon transport in materials using an external electric field, without altering the atomic structure, thus offering considerable advantages for applications in nanoelectronics and thermoelectric energy conversion.

With the increasing urban environmental problems, spontaneous vegetation has been gradually emphasized for high ecological value, whose distribution has been reported as strongly influenced by fine-scale environmental factors. As one of the major zones for urban spontaneous vegetation distribution, urban riparian corridors are well suited for research on the response of spontaneous plants to microhabitats. Taking the Wenyu River-North Canal in Beijing as the study site, we measured six microhabitat factors, including the level of maintenance and visitor activity, canopy density, litter thickness, and distance to water and road, to investigate their effects on spontaneous plant assemblages. The results showed that spontaneous plants respond significantly to fine-scale habitat variation, and were more responsive to human disturbance than other factors. Compared with diversity indicators, the functional trait compositions were more significantly correlated with microhabitat factors. Under lower maintenance of plants, the spontaneous communities had a higher invasion risk for plants. Thick litter can impede the occurrence of invasive species while favoring the growth of native ones. Our findings are important for furthering understanding of the spontaneous plant community establishment, and can serve as a good reference for the maintenance and management of spontaneous plants in urban riparian corridors.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a complex role in interactions between plant viruses and their host plants. They can both help the plant defend against viral infection and support viral infection and spread. This review explores the various roles of ROS in plant-virus interactions, focusing on their involvement in symptom development and the activation of plant defense mechanisms. The article discusses how ROS can directly inhibit viral infection, as well as how they can regulate antiviral mechanisms through various pathways involving miRNAs, virus-derived small interfering RNAs, viral proteins, and host proteins. Additionally, it examines how ROS can enhance plant resistance by interacting with hormonal pathways and external substances. The review also considers how ROS might promote viral infection and transmission, emphasizing their intricate role in plant-virus dynamics. These insights offer valuable guidance for future research, such as exploring the manipulation of ROS-related gene expression through genetic engineering, developing biopesticides, and adjusting environmental conditions to improve plant resistance to viruses. This framework can advance research in plant disease resistance, agricultural practices, and disease control.

OBJECTIVES: The weight-adjusted waist circumference index (WWI), a novel obesity indicator, gives better accuracy in assessing both muscle and fat mass. Our goal was to evaluate the relationship between WWI and the occurrence of hyperuricemia/gout among middle-aged and older adults in America. METHODS: We analyzed the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from the 2007-2014 cycles. Logistic regression analyses, subgroup analyses, and restricted cubic splines (RCS) were performed to evaluate the association between WWI and hyperuricemia/gout prevalence. RESULTS: A total of 5332 adults aged 50 years and above were included in this study. The prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout was 23.20% and 6.70% respectively. The fourth quartile of WWI was associated with a 56% higher risk for hyperuricemia, compared with the first quartile (OR = 1.56, 95% CI 1.07-2.27, P trend < 0.001). A similar association was found between continuous WWI increase and OR of hyperuricemia in the fully adjusted model (OR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.13-1.61, P < 0.05). However, WWI was not significantly associated with the prevalence of gout. The RCS model suggested a significant linear relationship between WWI and the risk of hyperuricemia/gout. Stratification analysis showed that the positive associations of WWI with the risk of hyperuricemia were more pronounced in participants who were women, aged 50-59, smokers, no physical activity, non-diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest a positive correlation between WWI and hyperuricemia among middle-aged and older adults in America. Employing WWI as a tool for hyperuricemia prevention may be meaningful. The filamentation temperature-sensitive H (FtsH) metalloprotease participates in the chloroplast photosystem II (PSII) repair cycle, playing a crucial role in regulating leaf coloration. However, the evolutionary history and biological function of the FtsH family in albino tea plants are still unknown. In this study, 35 CsFtsH members, including 7 CsFtsH-like (CsFtsHi1-CsFtsHi7) proteins, mapping onto 11 chromosomes in 6 subgroups, were identified in the 'Shuchazao2' tea genome, and their exon/intron structure, domain characteristics, collinearity, protein interaction network, and secondary structure were comprehensively analyzed. Furthermore, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) analysis revealed that the expression levels of CsFtsH1/2/5/8 were significantly positively correlated with the leaf color of tea plants. The subcellular localization revealed that they were located in the chloroplast. The transgenic Arabidopsis has demonstrated that CsFtsH2 and CsFtsH5 could restore the chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence intensity in var1 and var2 mutants, respectively. Moreover, protein-protein interactions have confirmed that CsFtsH1 with CsFtsH5, and CsFtsH2 with CsFtsH8 could form a hetero-comples and function in chloroplasts. In summary, this study aims to not only increase the understanding of the underlying molecular mechanisms of CsFtsH but also to provide a solid and detailed theoretical foundation for the breeding of albino tea plant varieties.

BACKGROUND: The lips are one crucial determinant of facial attractiveness. Current studies investigating lip attractiveness were mostly conducted in Caucasians, and the results could not directly apply to Asians. Aside from lip proportions, lip contours play an important role in attractiveness but it is unclear how people perceive different lip contours. The aim of this study was to investigate the aesthetic perception of various lip shapes by Chinese to identify the most attractive lip morphology for women and men, respectively. METHODS: 303 Chinese participants were invited to rate the attractiveness of identical lip images with different contours and proportions in a young female and a young male. Stratified analyses were performed to assess the effect of gender, age and occupation on the preference of lip shapes. RESULTS: The lips that were rated to be most attractive had a flat upper vermilion border, an M-shaped oral fissure and a U-shaped lower vermilion border in both genders. Most respondents considered an upper-to-lower vermilion proportion of 1:1 to be more attractive, regardless of the gender of the lip models, and the lip thickness-to-width proportions of 1:2 and 1:2.5 were perceived most attractive for female and male, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: This study adds to our understanding of how lip contours contribute to attractiveness and that Chinese have distinctive aesthetic preferences for lip morphology, which possibly stem from racial characteristics and cultural differences. With such knowledge, practitioners may better tailor the treatment strategy when performing lip rejuvenation procedures. Trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) is one of the major species within Populus, a predominant genus of hardwoods in North America. However, its utilization has been limited to pulp and paper or wood-based composite boards. This study aimed at evaluating the major physical and mechanical properties of trembling aspen lumber, with an ultimate objective of using this species to produce engineered wood products (EWPs). The testing materials consisted of 2 × 4 (38 mm × 89 mm) trembling aspen lumber pieces in lengths of 8, 10, and 12 feet (2.44, 3.05, and 3.66 m) with two visual grades, select structural (SS) and No. 2. Machine Stress-Rated (MSR), and longitudinal stress wave (LSW), edgewise third-point bending (EWB), and axial tension tests were conducted on the lumber. It was found that, (1) by increasing the maximum knot size by a half-inch from one-quarter inch, the minimum modulus of elasticity (MOE) measured using the MSR, the mean, and the fifth-percentile ultimate tensile strength (UTS) decreased by about 8.8%, 20.1%, and 29.8%, respectively. (2) Approximately 44% of the trembling aspen lumber met the 1450f-1.3E grade for MSR lumber, and 62% qualified for the 1200f-1.2E grade. (3) There was a great potential for manufacturing cross-laminated timber (CLT) of grade E3, with a rejection rate of about 29%. (4) The mean UTS and MOE values of the SS-grade trembling aspen lumber were 22.88 MPa and 9519 MPa, respectively, being 25.5% and 11.3% lower than that of Spruce-Pine-Fir (S-P-F) lumber. The fifth-percentile UTS and MOE values were 11.57 MPa and 7404 MPa, respectively, marking a decrease of 13.3% and 1.5% compared to the S-P-F lumber. (5) The oven-dried specific gravity (SG) of the trembling aspen wood was 0.40, which was about 3.5% larger than the value provided in the Wood Handbook.

This research investigated the relationships between school climates and bullying behaviors in Chinese adolescents, and tested the mediating effect of prosocial tendency according to the seesaw effect. School climates were operationalized using three constructs: subjective diversity of student development goals, teacher support, and peer trust. Bullying behaviors included traditional (i.e., physical, nonphysical, and relational) and cyber bullying behaviors. We recruited 538 adolescents from three schools in Beijing, China (286 girls, 252 boys; average age = 12.47) and asked them to fill out the surveys measuring school climates and prosocial tendency at the outset and to report school bullying behaviors three months later. The results showed that subjective diversity of student development goals and peer trust were directly associated with less cyber bullying behavior. Moreover, teacher support and peer trust were indirectly associated with less traditional bullying behaviors via prosocial tendency. Our findings extend the existing literature on the relationships between school climates and bullying behaviors by incorporating different types of bullying behaviors, concentrating on Chinese adolescents from a cultural viewpoint, and tapping into the underlying mechanism via revealing prosocial tendency as a mediator. Theoretical and empirical contributions of this study, as well as practical implications are discussed.

Ni-based oxides are promising catalysts for CO2 methanation. However, Ni-based catalysts also have some unresolved issues and drawbacks in practical applications. The activity and selectivity of Ni-based catalysts in CO2 methanation at low temperatures still need to be improved. Here, Ni/ZrO2 nanofibers with high surface areas (up to 101.2 m2/g) were prepared by electrospinning methods. The Ni/ZrO2-ES (also named as 66Ni/ZrO2) catalyst showed excellent catalytic performance in CO2 methanation (the CO2 conversion = 81% and CH4 selectivity = 99% at 350 °C) and excellent stability for 100 h, which was better than most reported Ni/ZrO2 catalysts. However, the comparison sample Ni/ZrO2-CP prepared by the coprecipitation method had poor catalytic performance (the CO2 conversion = 54% and CH4 selectivity = 90% at 350 °C). Within 100 h, the CO2 conversion decreased to 30% and the CH4 selectivity decreased to 52%. Both EPR and O1S XPS confirmed that Ni/ZrO2 nanofibers can form more reactive oxygen species vacancies, and CO2-TPD confirmed that nanofibers had more CO2 adsorption sites compared with the control sample Ni/ZrO2-CP. In situ DRIFTS analysis showed that bidentate carbonate and monodentate carbonate were key intermediates in CO2 methanation. The catalytic performance of Ni/ZrO2 nanofiber catalysts would be attributed to higher dispersion of Ni species on the surface of nanofibers, high specific surface area (101.2 m2/g), more oxygen vacancies, more CO2 adsorption sites, and the synergistic effect between Ni nanoparticles and ZrO2 nanofibers. This work may inspire the rational design of Ni/ZrO2 nanofiber catalysts with rich oxygen vacancies for low-temperature CO2 methanation.
