RESUMEN

The achievement of size uniformity and monodispersity in perovskite quantum dots (QDs) requires the implementation of precise temperature control and the establishment of optimal reaction conditions. Nevertheless, the accurate control of a range of reaction variables represents a considerable challenge. This study addresses the aforementioned challenge by employing manganese (Mn) doping to achieve size uniformity in CsPbBr3 perovskite QDs without the necessity for the precise control of the reaction conditions. By optimizing the Mn:Pb ratio, it is possible to successfully dope CsPbBr3 QDs with the appropriate concentrations of Mn²âº and achieve a uniform size distribution. The spectroscopic measurements on single QDs indicate that the appropriate Mn²âº concentrations can result in a narrower spectral linewidth, a longer photoluminescence (PL) lifetime, and a reduced biexciton Auger recombination rate, thus positively affecting the PL properties. This study not only simplifies the size control of perovskite QDs but also demonstrates the potential of Mn-doped CsPbBr3 QDs for narrow-linewidth light-emitting diode applications.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To construct a predictive model for Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) based on clinical and ultrasonic characteristics in patients with plaque psoriasis (PsP). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Demographic, clinical, and ultrasound data were collected from patients with PsP and PsA between May 2019 and December 2022. RESULTS: A total of 212 patients with PsP and 123 with PsA in the training cohort, whereas the validation cohort comprised 91 patients with PsP and 49 with PsA. The multivariate logistic regression identified nail psoriasis (odds ratio [OR] 1.88, 95% CI: 1.07-3.29), synovitis (OR 18.23, 95% CI: 4.04-82.33), enthesitis (OR 3.71, 95% CI: 1.05-13.14), and bone erosion (OR 11.39, 95% CI: 3.05-42.63) as effective predictors for PsA. The area under the curve was 0.750 (95% CI, 0.691-0.806) and 0.804 (95% CI, 0.723-0.886) for the training and validation cohorts, respectively. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test showed good consistency for both the training cohort (p  =  0.970) and the validation cohort (p  =  0.967). Calibration curves also indicated good calibration for both cohorts. The DCA revealed that the predictive model had good clinical utility. CONCLUSIONS: We have developed a quantitative, intuitive, and convenient predictive model based on nail psoriasis, synovitis, enthesitis, and bone erosion to assess the risk of PsA in patients with plaque psoriasis.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Considering the reliance of serum uric acid (SUA) levels on renal clearance function, its role in stroke outcomes remains controversial. This study investigated the association of renal function-normalized SUA (SUA to serum creatinine ratio, SUA/SCr), a novel renal function index, with the 1-year outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). METHODS: This is a prospective, multicenter observational study. Renal function-normalized SUA levels were determined by calculating the ratio of SUA to SCr. One-year outcomes included stroke recurrence, all-cause mortality, and poor prognosis. Multivariable Cox regression analyses and restriction cubic splines for curve fitting were used to evaluate SUA/SCr's association with 1-year stroke outcomes. RESULTS: Among 2294 enrolled patients, after adjustment for potential confounders, multivariable Cox regression analyses showed that each one-unit increase in SUA/SCr corresponded to a 19% decrease in 1-year stroke recurrence in patients with AIS. SUA/SCr was analyzed as a continuous variable and categorized into quartiles (Q1-Q4). Compared with the Q1 reference group, Q2, Q3, and Q4 showed significantly lower 1-year stroke recurrence risks. The trend test indicated significant differences in the 1-year stroke recurrence trend from Q1 to Q4. In these patients, SUA/SCr did not show a significant association with poor prognosis or all-cause mortality. Curve fitting revealed SUA/SCr had a negative but nonlinear association with 1-year stroke recurrence. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with AIS, low SUA/SCr may be an independent risk factor for 1-year stroke recurrence. Changes in SUA/SCr had no significant impact on 1-year poor prognosis and all-cause mortality.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Genetic factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of stroke(S). This study aimed to screen the loci associated with S risk in northwestern Chinese population by genome-wide association analysis (GWAS). METHODS: A total of 1394 subjects, including 682 S patients and 692 controls, were enrolled in this study. SPSS 25.0 software was used for statistical analysis, and the independent sample t-test as well as Chi-square test were used to analyze the differences in age and gender between the case and control groups. The Precision Medicine Diversity Array (PMDA) genotyping chip was used in this study. The genotyping platform was the Gene Titan multi-channel instrument, and the Axiom Analysis Suite 6.0 software was used for the data analyzing. Besides, the LASSO analysis, SNP-SNP and GO/KEGG analysis were conducted to analyze the association between significant loci and S risk. RESULTS: A total of 30 SNPs were found to be associated with the S risk based on additive model (p < 5 × 10-8). After the LASSO screening, 22 SNPs showed the diagnostic value in S. The SNPs interaction analysis further screened the SNP-SNP interaction groups associated with the S risk(p < 0.05). Finally, the GO/KEGG analysis discovered the suggestive significance loci could be involved in the S development mainly by immune-related functions and pathways. CONCLUSION: This study discovered 30 S related SNPs and analyzed the potential pathways associated with genes located on the 30 SNPs, which were beneficial for enriching the genetic mechanism analysis of S in northwestern Chinese population.

RESUMEN

High-quality private machine learning (ML) data stored in local data centers becomes a key competitive factor for AI corporations. In this paper, we present a novel insider attack called Matryoshka to reveal the possibility of breaking the privacy of ML data even with no exposed interface. Our attack employs a scheduled-to-publish DNN model as a carrier model for covert transmission of secret models which memorize the information of private ML data that otherwise has no interface to the outsider. At the core of our attack, we present a novel parameter sharing approach which exploits the learning capacity of the carrier model for information hiding. Our approach simultaneously achieves: (i) High Capacity - With almost no utility loss of the carrier model, Matryoshka can transmit over 10,000 real-world data samples within a carrier model which has 220× less parameters than the total size of the stolen data, and simultaneously transmit multiple heterogeneous datasets or models within a single carrier model under a trivial distortion rate, neither of which can be done with existing steganography techniques; (ii) Decoding Efficiency - once downloading the published carrier model, an outside colluder can exclusively decode the hidden models from the carrier model with only several integer secrets and the knowledge of the hidden model architecture; (iii) Effectiveness - Moreover, almost all the recovered models either have similar performance as if it is trained independently on the private data, or can be further used to extract memorized raw training data with low error; (iv) Robustness - Information redundancy is naturally implemented to achieve resilience against common post-processing techniques on the carrier before its publishing; (v) Covertness - A model inspector with different levels of prior knowledge could hardly differentiate a carrier model from a normal model.

RESUMEN

Integration of optical components into microfluidic devices can enhance particle manipulations, separations, and analyses. We present a method to fabricate microscale diffractive lenses composed of aperiodically spaced concentric rings milled into a thin metal film to precisely position optical tweezers within microfluidic channels. Integrated thin-film microlenses perform the laser focusing required to generate sufficient optical forces to trap particles without significant off-device beam manipulation. Moreover, the ability to trap particles with unfocused laser light allows multiple optical traps to be powered simultaneously by a single input laser. We have optically trapped polystyrene particles with diameters of 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 µm over microlenses fabricated in chromium and gold films. Optical forces generated by these microlenses captured particles traveling at fluid velocities up to 64 µm/s. Quantitative trapping experiments with particles in microfluidic flow demonstrate size-based differential trapping of neutrally buoyant particles where larger particles required a stronger trapping force. The optical forces on these particles are identical to traditional optical traps, but the addition of a continuous viscous drag force from the microfluidic flow introduces tunable size selectivity across a range of laser powers and fluid velocities.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Occlusal disharmony (OD) may induce anxiety-like behaviours; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Herein, we explored the expression profiles of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), along with their biological function and regulatory network, in anxiety-like behaviour induced by OD. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Occlusal disharmony was produced by anterior crossbite of C57BL/6 mice. Behavioural tests, corticosterone (CORT) and serotonin (5-HT) levels were used to measure anxiety. In addition, RNA sequencing was used to screen all differentially expressed (DE) ncRNAs. Moreover, the RNA-binding proteins interacting with ncRNAs were predicted by the ENCORI database and confirmed using western blots. RESULTS: The significant differences in behavioural tests and CORT suggested the successful induction of anxiety-like behaviour by OD. In OD mice, ncRNAs were significantly dysregulated. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses suggested that the DE ncRNAs were enriched in anxiety-related pathways. CircRNA10039 was upregulated, and PTBP1 was predicted to interact with circRNA10039. In addition, KEGG pathway analysis showed that PTBP1 may be associated with messenger RNA biogenesis and spliceosomes. CONCLUSION: OD induced by anterior crossbite can lead to the anxiety-like behaviours. During this process, ncRNA also changes. CircRNA10039 and PTBP1 may play a role in OD-induced anxiety-like behaviours.

RESUMEN

Internet-based interventions (IBIs) for behavioural health have been prevalent for over two decades, and a growing proportion of individuals with mental health concerns prefer these emerging digital alternatives. However, the effectiveness and acceptability of IBIs for various mental health disorders continue to be subject to scholarly debate. We performed an umbrella review of meta-analyses (MAs), conducting literature searches in PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane and Ovid Medline from their inception to 17 January 2023. A total of 87 MAs, reporting on 1683 randomised controlled trials and 295 589 patients, were included. The results indicated that IBIs had a moderate effect on anxiety disorder (standardised mean difference (SMD)=0.53, 95% CI 0.44 to 0.62) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) (SMD=0.63, 95% CI 0.38 to 0.89). In contrast, the efficacy on depression (SMD=0.45, 95% CI 0.39 to 0.52), addiction (SMD=0.23, 95% CI 0.16 to 0.31), suicidal ideation (SMD=0.23, 95% CI 0.16 to 0.30), stress (SMD=0.41, 95% CI 0.33 to 0.48) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (SMD=0.47, 95% CI 0.22 to 0.73) was relatively small. However, no significant effects were observed for personality disorders (SMD=0.07, 95% CI -0.13 to 0.26). Our findings suggest a significant association between IBIs and improved mental health outcomes, with particular effectiveness noted in treating anxiety disorders and PTSD. However, it is noteworthy that the effectiveness of IBIs was impacted by high dropout rates during treatment. Furthermore, our results indicated that guided IBIs proved to be more effective than unguided ones, playing a positive role in reducing dropout rates and enhancing patient adherence rates. RESUMEN

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is characterized by multi-joint involvement, primarily affecting the small joints in the hands and feet. However, the specific pattern of joint involvement at an individual level remains uncertain. This study aimed to elucidate the pattern of joint involvement in a PsA cohort. Patients diagnosed with PsA were recruited for this cross-sectional study. Demographic, clinical, laboratory, personal and family history, and comorbidity data were collected. Descriptive statistical analysis was performed, and univariate and multivariate regression models were used to examine baseline factors influencing joint involvement. A total of 264 PsA patients (156 males) were included in the study. The results revealed a predominant involvement of peripheral facet joints. The second proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP) of the right hand exhibited the highest prevalence of swelling (18.9%), while the right knee joint had the highest prevalence of tenderness (24.2%). Older age and earlier onset of PsA were identified as independent factors associated with the swelling of the second PIP of the right hand. Older age, earlier onset of PsA, lower Psoriasis Area and Severity Index and higher Dermatology Life Quality Index scores were identified as independent factors associated with the tenderness of the right knee joint. In conclusion, the most commonly affected joints in PsA are the second PIP of the right hand and the right knee joint.

RESUMEN

Background: Ischemic stroke is a serious and sudden cerebrovascular condition that significantly affects individual's health and imposes a substantial economic burden on medical management. Despite its widespread use in China, there is still a lack of reliable evidence regarding the efficacy of Shenmai injection (SMI) in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). We aimed to comprehensively assess the effectiveness and safety of SMI in treating AIS through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods: Randomized controlled studies (RCTs) investigating the efficacy of SMI in treating AIS were searched for in eight databases from the inception of each database till January 2024. We utilized the ROB 2.0 to assess the risk of bias. A meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.4, while sensitivity analyses and publication bias assessments were conducted using Stata 16.1. Results: A total of 17 studies involving 1,603 AIS patients were included in our meta-analysis. Our results showed that SMI plus conventional treatments (CTs) was more effective than CTs alone in improving the total effective rate (RR 1.22, 95% CI: 1.14 to 1.30, p < 0.00001), the Barthel index (BI) (MD 12.18, 95% CI: 10.30 to 14.06, p < 0.00001), and reducing the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Score (NIHSS) score (MD -3.05, 95% CI: 3.85 to -2.24, p < 0.00001) and Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) (MD -0.68, 95% CI: 0.86 to-0.49, p < 0.00001). In addition, SMI combination therapy was better than CTs alone in decreasing the levels of IL-6, IL-18, and hs-CRP. SMI therapy also enhanced the cerebral hemorheology of patients by reducing levels of fibrinogen and plasma viscosity. However, there was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse events, including elevated transaminase, rash, nausea, bleeding, urticaria, headache, vomiting, chest tightness, and facial flushes. Moreover, no serious adverse effects or life-threatening events were reported. Conclusion: Our study shows that combining SMI with CTs effectively enhances the neurological function of patients with acute cerebral infarction. However, our findings should be interpreted considering the significant heterogeneity and suboptimal quality of the analyzed trials. RESUMEN

Mineral oils and synthetic and natural esters are the predominant insulating liquids in electrical equipment. Structure-activity relationship models to predict the key properties of pure insulating liquids, including pulse breakdown strengths, AC breakdown voltages, dielectric constants, flash points, and kinematic viscosities, have been proposed for the first time. Dependence of the specific properties on the molecular structures has been illustrated quantitatively in terms of surface area, statistical total variance, and average deviation of positive and negative electrostatic potentials, as augmented by molecular weight, volume, and ovality. Moreover, the individual contribution of the functional groups to viscosity has been revealed by an additive approach. The predicted properties are in good agreement with the experimental data. The present theoretical work provides new insights on the development of novel dielectric fluids.

RESUMEN

Fulvic acid (FA) is a kind of natural organic acids extracted from lignite, which is the active ingredient in Wujin oral liquid, a proprietary Chinese medicine used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers. However, our understanding of the mechanisms of FA remains limited. Currently, the protection of FA and its mechanism were explored using the ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury mouse model. The histopathological examinations showed FAs at three doses effectively reduced gastric congestion, oedema caused by ethanol, and prevented gastric epithelial cell fall-off. When compared to the model group, FAs reduced IL-1ß and IL-6 levels in serum, as well as IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, and COX-2 expression levels in tissue. Furthermore, FAs significantly inhibited p65, P38 MAPK, and Erk1/2 phosphorylation in damaged gastric tissue. It was indicated FA has good protection against ethanol-induced gastric mucosa injuries in mice and this effect was related to NF-κB and MAPK signalling pathways.

RESUMEN

Determining the correlation between the size of a single quantum dot (QD) and its photoluminescence (PL) properties is a challenging task. In the study, we determine the size of each QD by measuring its absorption cross section, which allows for accurate investigation of size-dependent PL blinking mechanisms and volume scaling of the biexciton Auger recombination at the single-particle level. A significant correlation between the blinking mechanism and QD size is observed under low excitation conditions. When the QD size is smaller than their Bohr diameter, single CsPbI3 perovskite QDs tend to exhibit BC-blinking, whereas they tend to exhibit Auger-blinking when the QD size exceeds their Bohr diameter. In addition, by extracting bright-state photons from the PL intensity trajectories, the effects of QD charging and surface defects on the biexcitons are effectively reduced. This allows for a more accurate measurement of the volume scaling of biexciton Auger recombination in weakly confined CsPbI3 perovskite QDs at the single-dot level, revealing a superlinear volume scaling (τXX,Auger ∝ σ1.96).

RESUMEN

Non-infectious uveitis is an intraocular autoimmune disease mainly characterized by immune dysregulation of the eye, which may cause blindness if not well treated. Interleukin 10 (IL-10) is a potent cytokine with multiple immunoregulatory functions. However, it's in vivo activity is unstable owing to its inherent protein instability and short plasma half-life. Therefore, our previous research tried to establish IL-10-overexpressing MSC-sEVs (sEVs-IL10) using lentiviral transfection. While this approach indeed improved drug delivery, it also suffered from tedious procedures and limited loading efficiency. Accordingly, we constructed a novel MSC-sEVs-based delivery system for IL-10 (IL-10@sEVs) by sonication. The obtained formulation (IL-10@sEVs) had relatively higher loading efficiency and exerted a more profound immunomodulatory effect than sEVs-IL10 in vitro. Furthermore, IL-10@sEVs had significant therapeutic effects in a mouse model of experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) by decreasing the percentage of Th17 cells, increasing regulatory T cells in the eye, and draining lymph nodes. In summary, sonication outperforms conventional transfection methods for loading IL-10 into MSC-sEVs.

RESUMEN

In the context of sustainable agriculture and biomaterial development, understanding and enhancing plant secondary cell wall formation are crucial for improving crop fiber quality and biomass conversion efficiency. This is especially critical for economically important crops like upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.), for which fiber quality and its processing properties are essential. Through comprehensive genome-wide screening and analysis of expression patterns, we identified a particularly high expression of an R2R3 MYB transcription factor, GhMYB52 Like, in the development of the secondary cell wall in cotton fiber cells. Utilizing gene-editing technology to generate a loss-of-function mutant to clarify the role of GhMYB52 Like, we revealed that GhMYB52 Like does not directly contribute to cellulose synthesis in cotton fibers but instead represses a subset of lignin biosynthesis genes, establishing it as a lignin biosynthesis inhibitor. Concurrently, a substantial decrease in the lint index, a critical measure of cotton yield, was noted in parallel with an elevation in lignin levels. This study not only deepens our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying cotton fiber development but also offers new perspectives for the molecular improvement of other economically important crops and the enhancement of biomass energy utilization.

RESUMEN

Background: Ovarian cancer is a fatal gynecologic malignancy. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) has been verified to serve as key regulator in ovarian cancer tumorigenesis. Objective: The aim of the study was to study the functions and mechanism of lncRNA PITPNA-AS1 in ovarian cancer cellular process. Methods: Clinical ovarian cancer samples were collected and stored at an academic medical center. Cellular fractionation assays and fluorescence in situ hybridization were conducted to locate PITPNA-AS1 in OC cells. TUNEL staining, colony-forming assays, and Transwell assays were performed for evaluating cell apoptosis as well as proliferative and migratory abilities. Western blot was conducted for quantifying protein levels of epithelialmesenchymal transition markers. The binding relation between genes was verified by RNA pulldown, RNA immunoprecipitation, and luciferase reporter assays. Gene expression levels in ovarian cancer tissues and cells were subjected to RT-qPCR. Results: PITPNA-AS1 level was downregulated in ovarian cancer samples and cells. PITPNA-AS1 overexpression contributed to the accelerated ovarian cancer cell apoptosis and inhibited cell migration, proliferation, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition process. In addition, PITPNA-AS1 interacted with miR-223-3p to regulate RHOB. RHOB knockdown partially counteracted the repressive impact of PITPNA-AS1 on ovarian cancer cell activities. Conclusion: PITPNA-AS1 inhibited ovarian cancer cellular behaviors by targeting miR-223-3p and regulating RHOB.

RESUMEN

Drought is one of the major abiotic stresses with a severe negative impact on maize production globally. Understanding the genetic architecture of drought tolerance in maize is a crucial step towards the breeding of drought-tolerant varieties and a targeted exploitation of genetic resources. In this study, 511 quantitative trait loci (QTL) related to grain yield components, flowering time, and plant morphology under drought conditions, as well as drought tolerance index were collected from 27 published studies and then projected on the IBM2 2008 Neighbors reference map for meta-analysis. In total, 83 meta-QTL (MQTL) associated with drought tolerance in maize were identified, of which 20 were determined as core MQTL. The average confidence interval of MQTL was strongly reduced compared to that of the previously published QTL. Nearly half of the MQTL were confirmed by co-localized marker-trait associations from genome-wide association studies. Based on the alignment of rice proteins related to drought tolerance, 63 orthologous genes were identified near the maize MQTL. Furthermore, 583 candidate genes were identified within the 20 core MQTL regions and maize-rice homologous genes. Based on KEGG analysis of candidate genes, plant hormone signaling pathways were found to be significantly enriched. The signaling pathways can have direct or indirect effects on drought tolerance and also interact with other pathways. In conclusion, this study provides novel insights into the genetic and molecular mechanisms of drought tolerance in maize towards a more targeted improvement of this important trait in breeding.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Unsafe opioid-related practices can lead to abuse, diversion, and accidental overdoses. In this study, we aimed to describe the patterns and beliefs regarding the storage, disposal, and use of opioids among Chinese patients with cancer in their home settings, which remain unclear. METHODS: A multicenter cross-sectional survey was conducted in Hubei Province from October 2022 to June 2023. We collected information on the storage, disposal, and use of opioids among cancer pain inpatients in the oncology department. Logistic regression was used to estimate the factors associated with unsafe disposal and use of opioids. RESULTS: The survey included 221 patients with a median age of 62 years. Only 3.2% stored their opioids under lock and key, and 49.8% were unaware of proper disposal methods. Nearly one-fifth (19.5%) reported having received information on the safe storage (14.0%) and/or disposal (10.0%) of opioids. A total of 44.3% reported unsafe use by sharing (1.8%), losing (4.1%), or taking opioids at a higher dose than prescribed (42.5%). Patients who did not receive information on the safe disposal of opioids (OR = 4.57, P = .0423), had a history of alcohol use (OR = 1.91, P = .0399), and used opioids other than morphine (OR = 2.31, P = .0461) had higher odds of unsafe disposal practices. Individuals with an associate degree/bachelor's degree or above were less likely to dispose of (OR = 0.36, P = .0261) and use (OR = 0.31, P = .0127) opioids unsafely. CONCLUSION: A significant proportion of Chinese patients with cancer exhibit unsafe practices in the storage, disposal, and use of opioids. The study highlights an urgent need for implementing routine education programs and drug "take-back" initiatives to improve opioid-related practices.

RESUMEN

With over a million cases detected each year, skin disease is a global public health problem that diminishes the quality of life due to its difficulty to eradicate, propensity for recurrence, and potential for post-treatment scarring. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment with minimal invasiveness or scarring and few side effects, making it well tolerated by patients. However, this treatment requires further research and development to improve its effective clinical use. Here, a piezoelectric-driven microneedle (PDMN) platform that achieves high efficiency, safety, and non-invasiveness for enhanced PDT is proposed. This platform induces deep tissue cavitation, increasing the level of protoporphyrin IX and significantly enhancing drug penetration. A clinical trial involving 25 patients with skin disease was conducted to investigate the timeliness and efficacy of PDMN-assisted PDT (PDMN-PDT). Our findings suggested that PDMN-PDT boosted treatment effectiveness and reduced the required incubation time and drug concentration by 25% and 50%, respectively, without any anesthesia compared to traditional PDT. These findings suggest that PDMN-PDT is a safe and minimally invasive approach for skin disease treatment, which may improve the therapeutic efficacy of topical medications and enable translation for future clinical applications.
