RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common reproductive endocrine disorders. Accumulated evidence has suggested the indispensable role of kisspeptin-G protein-coupled receptor (GPR54) system and SHBG in development of PCOS. However, potential mechanisms and their relationship are unclear. Jiawei Buzhong Yiqi Decoction (JWBZYQ) has been reported to ameliorate obese PCOS. Whereas, potential mechanisms remain elusive. PURPOSE: To determine whether JWBZYQ attenuates PCOS by regulating the kisspeptin-GPR54 system and SHBG production. And to explore potential mechanisms. METHODS: An overweight PCOS rat model was developed with testosterone propionate (TP) and high-fat diet (HFD). The efficacy of JWBZYQ was assessed by tracking changes in weight, estrous cycle, ovarian morphology, and serum sex hormone levels. Additionally, kisspeptin-GPR54 system expression in multiple organs and PI3K-AKT pathway activity in liver of different rats were detected. Modifications in SHBG production were also measured. Kisspeptin54 was administered to establish a cellular model. The levels of AKT phosphorylation and SHBG protein within HepG2 cells were analyzed. Finally, confirmatory studies were performed using AKT phosphorylation activator and inhibitor. RESULTS: JWBZYQ effectively attenuated the overweight, disrupted estrous cycle, altered sex hormone levels, and aberrant ovarian morphology in PCOS rats. Meanwhile, PCOS rats exhibited elevated levels of kisspeptin and GPR54, along with reduced SHBG levels, which could be reversed by JWBZYQ. These alterations might be connected with the activation of AKT phosphorylation. In vitro experiment identified that JWBZYQ could rectify the hyperactivated AKT phosphorylation and deficient production of SHBG caused by kisspeptin54. CONCLUSIONS: Overexpressed kisspeptin-GPR54 system inhibited SHBG synthesis in PCOS. JWBZYQ curtailed the exorbitant expression of kisspeptin and GPR54, which moderated the rise in AKT phosphorylation and subsequently promoted the production of SHBG.

RESUMEN

Due to their unique microstructure and modifiable rheological properties, wormlike micelles that respond to environmental stimulation have garnered significant interest in recent years. Among them, CO2-responsive wormlike micelles have the advantages of simple preparation and controllable properties, which have significant development potential in the food chemistry field of thickeners. In this study, CO2-responsive wormlike micelles were prepared using docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), pyridoxamine (PA), and glucosamine (GA); the stimulus-responsive behaviors and mechanisms of the two systems, namely, NaDHA/PA and NaDHA/GA, were investigated using dynamic light scattering (DLS) and cryo-transmission electron microscopy (Cryo-TEM). The nearly unaltered viscosity of the systems confirmed the cyclic reversibility of the CO2 response of the two systems when the two mixed solutions were converted back to aqueous liquids 10 times. The preparation and properties of DHA-based CO2-responsive wormlike micelles are expected to advance fundamental research and establish the theoretical groundwork for their practical application in controllable thickening agents in food chemistry.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a tricky puzzle in the field of female reproductive medicine. Bushen Huoxue recipe (BHR), a traditional Chinese medicine compound based on the combination of kidney-tonifying and blood-activating functions, has shown excellent efficacy in improving female irregular menstruation, POI, and infertility. However, the potential mechanism of BHR in POI treatment has not yet been elucidated. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), a type of pluripotent stem cells, have received increasing attention for their significant role in improving ovarian function and restoring fertility in women with POI. PURPOSE: This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effect of BHR in POI mice and explore its potential mechanism. METHODS: A POI mouse model was established with a single intraperitoneal injection of 120 mg/kg cyclophosphamide (CTX). Distilled water, BHR, or dehydroepiandrosterone was administered via gavage for 28 consecutive days. The effect of BHR on ovarian function in POI mice was evaluated by assessing the estrous cycle, ovarian morphology, follicular development, hormone levels, and angiogenesis. The proportion of BMSCs in bone marrow, peripheral blood, and ovary was analyzed via flow cytometry, and the level of molecules mediating migration and homing in ovary was measured. Cell viability assays, scratch healing assays and transwell migration assays were performed to explore the effect of BHR on BMSCs proliferation and migration in vitro, and its potential mechanism was explored. RESULTS: BHR significantly ameliorated estrous cycle disorders, hormone disorders, ovarian morphology, ovarian microvascular formation, and ovarian reserve in POI mice. Meanwhile, the number of BMSCs number in the bone marrow, peripheral blood, and ovary was apparently increased. Of note, BHR increased the level of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)/cellular mesenchymal epithelial transition factor (cMET) and stromal cell-derived factor-1(SDF-1)/CXC chemokine receptor 4 (CXCR4) in the ovaries of POI mice. Moreover, BHR treatment promoted BMSCs proliferation and migration in vitro, with a significant increase in the level of proliferating cell nuclear antigen, cMET, and CXCR4. CONCLUSIONS: BHR effectively restored ovarian reserve, ovarian function, and ovarian angiogenesis in CTX-induced POI mice. In addition, BHR promoted BMSCs proliferation, migration, and homing to the ovary, which was mediated by the SDF-1/CXCR4 and HGF/cMET signaling axis. Finally, the amelioration of ovarian reserve and ovarian function in CTX-induced POI mice by BHR may be related to its promotion of endogenous BMSCs proliferation and homing.

RESUMEN

Thermoviscosifying polymers refer to a category of smart materials that exhibit a responsive behavior to environmental stimuli, specifically demonstrating a natural rise in viscosity of solutions as the temperature increases. The temperature-dependent behavior exhibited by thermally viscous polymers renders them potentially advantageous in the context of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). There exists a dearth of research pertaining to the application of thermoviscosifying polymer for better recovery in reservoirs characterized by high temperatures and high salt content. In order to tackle the mentioned concerns, this study examined the utilization of welan gum modified with poly(2-oxazoline) as thermally responsive chain segments to enhance viscosity. The objective was to evaluate the ability to enhance viscosity under thermal conditions and to assess their effectiveness in displacement of reservoir oil in high temperature and high salt environments. This study aimed to establish a theoretical framework for understanding the correlation between the molecular structure and performance of novel thermally viscous polymers. Additionally, it sought to offer practical insights into designing the molecular structure of thermally viscous polymers suitable for polymer flooding in high temperature and high salt environments. Furthermore, the study proposed the application of these new thermoviscosifying polymers for EOR.

RESUMEN

Humans and animals exhibit various forms of prosocial helping behaviour towards others in need1-3. Although previous research has investigated how individuals may perceive others' states4,5, the neural mechanisms of how they respond to others' needs and goals with helping behaviour remain largely unknown. Here we show that mice engage in a form of helping behaviour towards other individuals experiencing physical pain and injury-they exhibit allolicking (social licking) behaviour specifically towards the injury site, which aids the recipients in coping with pain. Using microendoscopic imaging, we found that single-neuron and ensemble activity in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) encodes others' state of pain and that this representation is different from that of general stress in others. Furthermore, functional manipulations demonstrate a causal role of the ACC in bidirectionally controlling targeted allolicking. Notably, this behaviour is represented in a population code in the ACC that differs from that of general allogrooming, a distinct type of prosocial behaviour elicited by others' emotional stress. These findings advance our understanding of the neural coding and regulation of helping behaviour.

RESUMEN

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a prevalent endocrine disease characterized by hyperandrogenism, ovulatory dysfunction, and ovarian polycystic changes, which combines with reproductive problems, metabolic disorders, and psychological disorders to exhibit a far-reaching impact on the physical and mental health of women. We reviewed previous research and discovered that psychiatric disorders are more common in PCOS patients and their children, potentially exacerbating the condition and creating a vicious loop. To understand the reasons, relevant articles were collected following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines from PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library, through December 2022. Evidence suggested that PCOS-related clinical manifestations, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, obesity, gut dysbiosis, and other variables may increase the risk of psychiatric disorders in patients. In turn, psychiatric disorders may aggravate the pathologic process of PCOS and increase the difficulty of the treatment. We systematically reported the mechanisms underlying the psychiatric disorders-PCOS interactions, intending to provide potential ways to break the vicious cycle and lay the groundwork for future research. However, research on PCOS and psychiatric disorders were still in initial stages, which limited the scope of this review. More studies are needed to further verify our findings.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a tricky puzzle that disturbs female reproduction worldwide. According to previous research, Bushen Antai recipe (BAR), a classic Chinese herbal formula widely used in clinic for miscarriage, exhibited multifaceted benefits in improving embryo implantation and attenuating early pregnancy loss. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), a set of immunoregulatory cells critical in inflammation balance, get growing attention for their indispensable role in successful pregnancy. PURPOSE: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of BAR in abortion-prone mice and explore the potential mechanisms of BAR regarding MDSCs. METHODS: RPL mice (CBA/J females paired with DBA/2 males, BALB/c males were used as the control) were administered with BAR1 (5.7 g/kg), BAR2 (11.4 g/kg), progesterone (P4), or distilled water from embryo day (D) 0.5 until D10.5. The rate of embryo absorption on D10.5 and the health status of progeny were measured. The systemic inflammatory states and the placenta-uterus milieu were assessed by serum cytokine levels, placenta-uterus architecture, and related protein expression at the maternal-fetal interface. Flow cytometry analysis was carried out to measure the frequency of MDSCs. Furthermore, we established the MDSCs-depletion mouse model by using C57BL/6 females mated with BALB/c males via intraperitoneal injection of anti-Gr-1 antibody on D6.5, while irrelative LTF antibody was used as the control. Similarly, BAR1, BAR2, P4, or distilled water was separately applied. Embryo absorption rate, systemic inflammatory states, placenta-uterus milieu, and MDSCs frequency were evaluated as mentioned above. RESULTS: Significantly, embryo absorption rate was increased with disrupted placenta-uterus milieu and exorbitant proinflammatory cytokines in RPL mice, meanwhile, MDSCs number in the placenta-uterus unit were apparently reduced (⁎⁎⁎p < 0.001). BAR treatment markedly alleviated the poor conditions above and increased MDSCs number (####p < 0.0001). Flow cytometry analysis validated the efficacy of anti-Gr-1 antibody and the raised embryo absorption rate confirmed the essentiality of MDSCs in normal pregnancy (⁎⁎p < 0.01). Besides, the placenta-uterus milieu was destroyed, accompanied by the impaired expression of immune tolerance and angiogenesis related factors in the MDSCs-depletion mice. Even though, BAR treatment reversed the embryo resorption phenotype and optimized the serum cytokine milieu, mobilizing MDSCs and rejuvenating active intercellular communication. Thereby, BAR facilitated the expression of MDSCs-related functional molecules, promoting immune tolerance and vascular remodeling at the placenta-uterus unit. CONCLUSION: We unfurled the remarkable therapeutic ability of BAR in abortion-prone mice, and this was achieved by mobilizing MDSCs, thus favoring immune tolerance and angiogenesis at the maternal-fetal interface.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of manual acupuncture on endometrial blood flow parameters by three-dimensional (3D) power Doppler ultrasound in women undergoing in vitro fertilization embryo transfer (IVF-ET). METHODS: Seventy patients undergoing IVF-ET were equally randomized into traditional or sham acupuncture treatment group for totally 4 days (from the day of oocyte aspiration to the day of embryo transfer) of treatment by random envelope method at the Reproductive Medicine Center and Outpatient Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medicine College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology from January 2013 to December 2015. Patients in the traditional acupuncture group accepted traditional acupuncture methods with manual acupuncture, and Zhongji (CV3), Qihai (CV 6), Sanyinjiao (SP6), Taichong (LR 3), Tianshu (ST 25), Guilai (ST 29) and Zusanli (ST 36) were chosen. Patients at the sham acupuncture group accepted shallow acupuncture methods at 4 non-meridian points at each shoulder and upper arm. Outcome measures included endometrial ultrasonic indices such as vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI) and vascularization flow index (VFI), endometrial thickness and volume, subendometrial VI (sVI), subendometrial FI (sFI), subendometrial VFI (sVFI), implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, live birth rate and number of live births. RESULTS: Finally, 34 patients in the traditional acupuncture group and 35 in the sham acupuncture group completed this trial. VI, FI and VFI of the traditional acupuncture group were significantly higher than those in the sham acupuncture group (P<0.05). No significant differences were found in endometrial thickness, endometrial volume, sVI, sFI, sVFI, implantation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, abortion rate, live birth rate and number of live births (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Manual acupuncture performed after oocyte aspiration and before transplantation improved the endometrial blood flow parameters VI, RI and VFI in women who underwent IVF-ET, instead of sVI, sFI and sVFI. Therefore, acupuncture might be beneficial in women undergoing IVF-ET by increasing endometrial blood flow and endometrial receptivity. (Registration No. ChiCTR2100053354).

RESUMEN

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Jiawei Buzhong Yiqi Decoction (JWBZYQ), from records of FuqingzhuNvke, is a classical formula for treating obese women related infertility. JWBZYQ has been shown to be effective in treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in both clinical studies and practical practice, with the pharmacological mechanism remaining unknown. AIM OF THE STUDY: To explore the potential therapeutic effects and mechanistic insights of JWBZYQ in PCOS. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An overweight PCOS rat model was established via testosterone propionate (TP) injection and 45% high-fat diet (HFD). Then they were categorized into five distinct groups: Control group, Model group, low-dose of JWBZYQ (JWBZYQ1) group, high-dose of JWBZYQ (JWBZYQ2) group, and metformin (Met) group. Body weight, estrous cycle, and sex hormone levels were observed. Hematoxylin-Eosin staining was employed to investigate the histological characteristics of the ovaries. To identify the pathways that changed significantly, transcriptome analysis was performed. The protein and mRNA levels of key molecules in ovarian zona pellucida (ZP) organization, transzonal projections (TZPs) assembly, steroid hormone receptors, and steroidogenesis were assessed using phalloidin staining, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS: RNA-seq analysis demonstrated that regulation of hormone secretion, cilium assembly, cell projection assembly, and ZP production may all have crucial impact on the etiology of PCOS and therapeutic effect of JWBZYQ. In particular, PCOS rats exhibited elevated expressions of ZP1-3, which can be reversed by JWBZYQ2 particularly. Simultaneously, TZPs assembly was totally disrupted in PCOS rats, evidenced by the phalloidin staining, upregulated calcium-/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II beta (CaMKIIß), and deficient p-CaMKIIß, myosin X (MYO10), proline-rich tyrosine kinase 2 (PTK2), and Fascin. Nonetheless, JWBZYQ or metformin treatment revived the disturbance, repairing the oocyte-granulosa cell communication, regulating steroidogenesis in PCOS rats. In this way, JWBZYQ and metformin exerted remarkable effects in alleviating altered ovarian morphology and function in PCOS rats, with JWBZYQ2 revealing the best effect. CONCLUSIONS: JWBZYQ restored the altered ovarian morphology and function by regulating the oocyte-granulosa cell communication, which was related with ZP organization and TZPs assembly in the ovary.

RESUMEN

Introduction: Neuronal surface antibody syndromes (NSAS) encompass a growing set of autoimmune neurological disorders, with their predominant clinical presentation being autoimmune encephalitis (AE). The most extensively documented form within NSAS is anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) autoimmunity. In contrast, other NSAS, such as anti-metabotropic glutamate receptor-5 (mGluR5) autoimmunity, are less common and less comprehensively characterized, particularly in pediatric cases. Case description: In this instance, we present the case of a 7-year-old girl who exhibited abnormal behaviors following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). She received a diagnosis of anti-mGluR5 AE, and her Electroencephalogram (EEG) displayed an increased number of generalized slow waves during wakefulness. Treatment involved intravenous administration of gamma globulin and methylprednisolone, followed by oral prednisone tablets. Levetiracetam was introduced as an antiepileptic therapy during the pulse steroid therapy. Notably, the abnormal behaviors exhibited significant improvement after treatment. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of rare pediatric NSAS involving anti-mGluR5 AE following HSCT. Enhancing our understanding and characterization of this condition may facilitate its recognition and treatment in children. Serum antibody testing could enable early identification and treatment of anti-mGluR5 AE.

RESUMEN

The nonisothermal thermal decomposition kinetics of 4,4'-azobis-1,2,4-triazole (ATRZ) at different heating rates (5, 10, 15, and 20 °C·min-1) were investigated by thermogravimetry (TG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) studies. The thermal decomposition kinetic parameters such as apparent activation energy (E) and pre-exponential factor (A) were calculated by the Kissinger, Ozawa, and Satava-Sestak methods. The E and A values calculated by the above three methods are very close, which are 391.1 kJ·mol-1/1034.92 s-1, 381.1 kJ·mol-1/1034.30 s-1, and 393.4 kJ·mol-1/1035.76 s-1, respectively. Then, the decomposition mechanism function of ATRZ is analyzed by the calculated results. The results show that the decomposition temperature of ATRZ is about 300 °C and the exothermic decomposition speed is fast. The decomposition pathway of ATRZ was analyzed by pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (PY-GC-MS). The thermal decomposition kinetic equation of the ATRZ was deduced.

RESUMEN

Rhabdomyolysis syndrome refers to the breakdown and necrosis of muscle tissue due to various reasons and caused by the release of intracellular contents into the blood stream, which can lead to acute renal failure or even death. In this article, we describe for the first time a case report of severe rhabdomyolysis induced by etoposide-nedaplatin chemotherapy in a small cell lung cancer (SCLC IIIb) patient. The patient developed progressive general muscle pain and weakness after the first cycle of chemotherapy, accompanied by elevated creatine kinase (CK), myoglobin (Mb), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), spartate aminotransferase (AST), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Examination of and inquiry regarding the medical history were used to exclude various factors of rhabdomyolysis caused by trauma, strenuous activities, infections, drugs, hyperthermia, and immunity; the patient was diagnosed with severe rhabdomyolysis induced by chemotherapy. After treatment with intravenous fluids and methylprednisolone, the patient's symptoms were relieved and laboratory results were significantly improved. An unexpected situation arose, in that the lung CT scan showed that the lung mass was significantly smaller than that before chemotherapy; the reason for this is not clear. Rhabdomyolysis induced by anti-cancer drugs, especially chemotherapy drugs, is rarely reported and easily overlooked. Therefore, physicians should be aware of this rare but potentially serious complication when using chemotherapy drugs.

RESUMEN

The synthesis of the new energetic material 4-amino-3-hydrazino-5-methyl-1,2,4-triazole, which shows excellent performance and reliable safety, has drawn attention recently. To fully characterize this material, a comprehensive analysis was performed using various techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), infrared spectroscopy (IR), elemental analysis, and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Additionally, three compounds, 3, 5 and 9, were further characterized using single X-ray diffraction. The X-ray data suggested that extensive hydrogen bonds affect molecular structure by means of intermolecular interactions. In order to evaluate the explosive properties of these synthesized compounds, detonation pressures and velocities were calculated using EXPLO5 (V6.01). These calculations were carried out utilizing experimental data, including density and heat of formation. Among the explosives tested, compounds 7 and 8 exhibited zero oxygen balance and demonstrated exceptional detonation properties. Compound 7 achieved the highest recorded detonation pressure, at 34.2 GPa, while compound 8 displayed the highest detonation velocity, at 8887 m s-1.

RESUMEN

A growing number of studies have suggested that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays an essential role in the development and occurrence of liver cancer. However, the function of Ruangan Lidan decoction (RLD) in liver cancer are not yet adequately identified and manifested, which attracted our attention. The key genes related to liver cancer and RLD and the upstream miRNAs of PDK4 were obtained based on bioinformatics analysis, followed by verification of the targeting relationship between miR-9-5p and PDK4. Next, Huh7 cells were treated with RLD to detect cell proliferation, colony formation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis by multiple assays with gain- and loss-of-function experiments. Moreover, subcutaneous transplanted tumor model and lung metastasis model of liver cancer in nude mice were established to further verify the functional role of RLD in liver cancer growth and metastasis via miR-9-5p/PDK4 axis. Bioinformatics analysis found that PDK4 and miR-9-5p were related to liver cancer, and PDK4 may be a downstream regulator of RLD. miR-9-5p could target and inhibit PDK4. In vitro cell experiments demonstrated that RLD suppressed liver cancer cell proliferation, invasion and migration, and promoted apoptosis by inhibiting miR-9-5p expression and promoting PDK4 expression. In vivo animal experiments further confirmed that RLD inhibited liver cancer growth and metastasis via upregulation of miR-9-5p-dependent PDK4. RLD downregulated miR-9-5p and upregulated PDK4 to inhibit the proliferation, migration, invasion, and induce apoptosis, thereby suppressing the growth and metastasis of liver cancer, highlighting a potential novel target for treatment of liver cancer.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Workplace violence has always been a critical issue worldwide before and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which can lead to burnout and turnover. In addition, the burnout and mental stress of nurses during the COVID-19 period have been widely described. To our knowledge, no studies have examined the mediating effect of the sense of coherence on the relationship between workplace violence and burnout among Chinese nurses over time. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the relationship between workplace violence and burnout among Chinese nurses and how the sense of coherence mediates the association. METHODS: Using a convenience sampling method, 1190 nurses from 4 tertiary grade-A comprehensive hospitals were investigated between September 2021 and December 2021 in 3 provinces of China. The Workplace Violence Scale, Burnout Inventory, and Sense of Coherence scale were used to collect data. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and regression analysis to estimate direct and indirect effects using bootstrap analysis. RESULTS: The mean total scores for workplace violence and burnout were 1.67 ± 1.08 and 47.36 ± 18.39, respectively. Workplace violence was significantly negatively correlated with the sense of coherence (r = -0.25) and positively correlated with burnout (r = 0.27). Additionally, a higher level of workplace violence was associated with higher burnout (ß = 1.13, 95% CI: 0.68 ~ 1.56). A higher sense of coherence was also associated with lower burnout (ß = -0.98, 95% CI: -1.03 ~ -0.92). Workplace violence showed an effect on burnout through a sense of coherence. The direct, indirect and total effects were 1.13, 1.88 and 3.01, respectively. The mediating effect of the sense of coherence accounted for 62.45% of the relationship between workplace violence and burnout. CONCLUSION: We found that the sense of coherence mediated most workplace violence on burnout. It is imperative for hospital managers to improve nurses' sense of coherence to reduce the occurrence of burnout during COVID-19. Future intervention studies should be designed to strengthen nurses' sense of coherence.

RESUMEN

Objective: The aim of the study is to investigate the serum metabolomics of electroacupuncture (EA) with different current intensities in the treatment of functional constipation (FC). Methods: The total number of FC patients was 19, (7, 6, 6, in the low current intensity group (LCI), high current intensity group (HCI), and mosapride citrate tablet control group (MC), respectively). Patients in the EA groups received 16 sessions of acupuncture treatments. Patients in the MC group were orally administered 5 mg mosapride citrate tablets 3 times daily, and serum samples were collected from the patients before and after treatment. Orthogonal partial least square-discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) was used to assess the metabolic data. The significant differences before and after FC treatment are shown in the OPLS-DA score plot. Variable importance plots (VIPs) and T tests were used to identify significant metabolites. Results: Among the three groups, the number of metabolites with VIP > 1 was 11, 7, and 21 (in LCI, HCI and MC groups, respectively). Compared with those before treatment, the serum metabolites of patients were characterized by increased levels of L-ornithine (p < 0.05) and glyceric acid in the LCI group (p < 0.05), increased levels of vanillic acid in the MC group (p < 0.05), and decreased levels of arabinonic acid in the MC group (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The effects of EA treatment on the serum metabolomics of FC may involve fatty acid and amino acid metabolism.

RESUMEN

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is an intractable issue that negatively impacts the quality of pregnancy. The incidence of GDM is on the rise, becoming a major health burden for both mothers and children. However, the specific etiology and pathophysiology of GDM remain unknown. Recently, the importance of gut microbiota and related metabolic molecules has gained prominence. Studies have indicated that women with GDM have significantly distinct gut microbiota and gut metabolites than healthy pregnant women. Given that the metabolic pathways of gut flora and related metabolites have a substantial impact on inflammation, insulin signaling, glucose, and lipid metabolism, and so on, gut microbiota or its metabolites, such as short-chain fatty acids, may play a significant role in both pathogenesis and progression of GDM. Whereas the role of intestinal flora during pregnancy is still in its infancy, this review aims to summarize the effects and mechanisms of gut microbiota and related metabolic molecules involved in GDM, thus providing potential intervention targets.

RESUMEN

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is known as a prevalent but complicated gynecologic disease throughout the reproductive period. Typically, it is characterized by phenotypic manifestations of hyperandrogenism, polycystic ovary morphology, and persistent anovulation. For now, the therapeutic modality of PCOS is still a formidable challenge. Metabolic aberrations and immune challenge of chronic low-grade inflammatory state are significant in PCOS individuals. Recently, interleukin-22 (IL-22) has been shown to be therapeutically effective in immunological dysfunction and metabolic diseases, which suggests a role in the treatment of PCOS. In this review, we outline the potential mechanisms and limitations of IL-22 therapy in PCOS-related metabolic disorders including its regulation of insulin resistance, gut barrier, systemic inflammation, and hepatic steatosis to generate insights into developing novel strategies in clinical practice.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To investigate the effect of acupuncture for improving the pregnancy rate of COH rats from the viewpoint of regulating the opening time of the implantation window and endometrial receptivity. Methods: Experimental rats were randomly divided into normal group (N), model group (M) and acupuncture group(A), and samples were collected on Day 4, 5 and 6 after mating. COH rats were treated with acupuncture at SP6, LR3, and ST36 once a day for 7 times. The pinopodes were observed under a scanning electron microscope. Serum estrogen and progesterone levels were measured via ELISA. The protein and mRNA levels of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF), integrin ß3, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) in the endometrium were evaluated via West-blot, immunohistochemistry, and PCR. Results: Compared with group N, the pregnancy rate of group M was significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the abnormal serum hormone levels and implantation window advancement were observed. Compared with group M, the pregnancy rate of group A was significantly increased (P<0.05), the supraphysiological serum progesterone levels were restored to normalcy (P<0.05), and the advanced implantation window was restored to a certain extent. Further, the abnormal ER, PR, LIF, integrin ß3, VEGF, and FGF-2 expression levels of the endometrium got recovered to varying degrees. Conclusion: Acupuncture may restore the estrogen and progesterone balance in COH rats and the forward shift of the implantation window to a certain extent, improving the endometrial receptivity and finally improving the pregnancy rate of COH rats.

RESUMEN

To study the application of intraoperative EMG intelligent monitoring in orthopedic surgery under general anesthesia, a total of 53 patients who underwent orthopedic surgery from February 2021 to February 2022 were selected. The combined monitoring of somatosensory evoked potential (SEP), motor evoked potential (MEP), and electromyography (EMG) was used to analyze the monitoring efficiency. In 38 of the 53 patients, the intraoperative signal was normal, and there was no postoperative neurological dysfunction; one case had abnormal signal, and the abnormality still existed after debugging, but no obvious neurological dysfunction was found after operation; the remaining 14 cases had abnormal signal. There were 13 early warnings in SEP monitoring; 12 early warnings in MEP monitoring; 10 early warnings in EMG monitoring. There were 15 cases of early warning in the joint monitoring of the three, and the sensitivity of the combined monitoring of SEP + MEP + EMG was significantly higher than that of the single monitoring of SEP, MEP, and EMG (p < 0.05). There was no significant difference in specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value between combined monitoring and single monitoring (p > 0.05). The combined monitoring of EMG, MEP, and SEP in orthopedic surgery can significantly improve the safety of surgery, its sensitivity and negative predictive value were significantly higher than the monitoring effects of the two alone.
