RESUMEN

Myositis ossificans (MO) is characterized by benign heterotopic ossificans in soft tissues like muscles, which can be classified into nonhereditary MO and fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP). Although MO has been studied for decades, no research reviewed and analyzed the features of publications in this field quantitatively and qualitatively. Using bibliometrics tools (bibliometrix R package, VOSviewer, and CiteSpace), we conducted a bibliometric analysis of 1280 articles regarding MO in the Web of Science Core Collection database from 1993 to 2022. The annual number of publications and related research areas in the MO field increased gradually in the past 20 years. The USA contributed the most percentage (42.58%) of articles. The University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) and the Journal Bone published the most articles among all institutions and journals. Kaplan FS and Shore EM from UPenn were the top two scholars who made the largest contributions to this field. Keyword analysis showed that research hotspots changed from traumatic MO and clinical management of MO to the genetic etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of FOP. This study can provide new insights into the research trends of MO and helps researchers grasp and determine future study directions more easily.

The limited and unstable absorption of excess exudate is a major challenge during the healing of infected wounds. In this study, a highly stable, multifunctional Janus dressing with unidirectional exudate transfer capacity is fabricated based on a single poly(lactide caprolactone) (PLCL). The success of this method relies on an acid hydrolysis reaction that transforms PLCL fibers from hydrophobic to hydrophilic in situ. The resulting interfacial affinity between the hydrophilic/phobic PLCL fibers endows the Janus structure with excellent unidirectional liquid transfer and high structural stability against repeated stretching, bending, and twisting. Various other functions, including wound status detection, antibacterial, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties, are also integrated into the dressing by incorporating phenol red and epigallocatechin gallate. An in vivo methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus-infected wound model confirms that the Janus dressing, with the capability to remove exudate from the infected site, not only facilitates epithelialization and collagen deposition, but also ensures low inflammation and high angiogenesis, thus reaching an ideal closure rate up to 98.4% on day 14. The simple structure, multiple functions, and easy fabrication of the dressing may offer a promising strategy for treating chronic wounds, rooted in the challenges of bacterial infection, excessive exudate, and persistent inflammation.

Flexible electro-optical dual-mode sensor fibers with capability of the perceiving and converting mechanical stimuli into digital-visual signals show good prospects in smart human-machine interaction interfaces. However, heavy mass, low stretchability, and lack of non-contact sensing function seriously impede their practical application in wearable electronics. To address these challenges, a stretchable and self-powered mechanoluminescent triboelectric nanogenerator fiber (MLTENGF) based on lightweight carbon nanotube fiber is successfully constructed. Taking advantage of their mechanoluminescent-triboelectric synergistic effect, the well-designed MLTENGF delivers an excellent enhancement electrical signal of 200% and an evident optical signal whether on land or underwater. More encouragingly, the MLTENGF device possesses outstanding stability with almost unchanged sensitivity after stretching for 200%. Furthermore, an extraordinary non-contact sensing capability with a detection distance of up to 35 cm is achieved for the MLTENGF. As application demonstrations, MLTENGFs can be used for home security monitoring, intelligent zither, traffic vehicle collision avoidance, and underwater communication. Thus, this work accelerates the development of wearable electro-optical textile electronics for smart human-machine interaction interfaces.

BACKGROUND: Traditional Chinese medicine, JianpiJiedu decoction (JPJDF), has been utilized in colorectal cancer (CRC) treatment for over forty years. The potential of JPJDF to inhibit CRC through modulation of intestinal microbiota and their metabolites remains uncertain. AIMS: This study aims to further investigate the therapeutic mechanisms of JPJDF in CRC. METHODS: CAC mouse models were developed using azoxymethane (AOM) and dextran sulfate sodium (DSS). Intestinal tissues and contents underwent 16S rRNA gene sequencing and untargeted metabolomics analysis. Serum levels of IL-1ß and TNF-α were measured using ELISA. Immunohistochemistry was utilized to assess the expression of Ki67, ZO-1, Occludin, CD68, and CD206. Furthermore, western blotting was performed to evaluate the protein expression of AhR and NF-κB. RESULTS: JPJDF inhibited colorectal tumourigenesis in AOM/DSS treated mice, while also suppressing tumor cell proliferation and upregulating the expression of tight junction proteins. The results of 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis revealed that JPJDF altered intestinal microbiota composition by increasing the abundance of beneficial bacteria. Additionally, JPJDF reduced tryptophan metabolites, effectively alleviating inflammation and significantly restoring intestinal barrier function in CAC mice. Molecular biology experiments confirmed that JPJDF suppressed the expression levels of AhR and M2-type tumor-associated macrophages, thereby promoting anti-tumor immunity and exerting inhibitory effects on CAC growth. CONCLUSION: JPJDF can regulate the tryptophan metabolism-AhR pathway by modulating the gut microbiota, reducing intestinal inflammation, improving intestinal barrier function, enhancing anti-tumor immunity, and effectively inhibiting CAC growth.

Nitrogen (N) immobilization (Nim, including microbial N assimilation) and plant N uptake (PNU) are the two most important pathways of N retention in soils. The ratio of Nim to PNU (hereafter Nim:PNU ratio) generally reflects the degree of N limitation for plant growth in terrestrial ecosystems. However, the key factors driving the pattern of Nim:PNU ratio across global ecosystems remain unclear. Here, using a global data set of 1018 observations from 184 studies, we examined the relative importance of mycorrhizal associations, climate, plant, and soil properties on the Nim:PNU ratio across terrestrial ecosystems. Our results show that mycorrhizal fungi type (arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) or ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi) in combination with soil inorganic N mainly explain the global variation in the Nim:PNU ratio in terrestrial ecosystems. In AM fungi-associated ecosystems, the relationship between Nim and PNU displays a weaker negative correlation (r = -.06, p < .001), whereas there is a stronger positive correlation (r = .25, p < .001) in EM fungi-associated ecosystems. Our meta-analysis thus suggests that the AM-associated plants display a weak interaction with soil microorganisms for N absorption, while EM-associated plants cooperate with soil microorganisms. Furthermore, we find that the Nim:PNU ratio for both AM- and EM-associated ecosystems gradually converge around a stable value (13.8 ± 0.5 for AM- and 12.1 ± 1.2 for EM-associated ecosystems) under high soil inorganic N conditions. Our findings highlight the dependence of plant-microbial interaction for N absorption on both plant mycorrhizal association and soil inorganic N, with the stable convergence of the Nim:PNU ratio under high soil N conditions.

Ecological succession and restoration rapidly promote multiple dimensions of ecosystem functions and mitigate global climate change. However, the factors governing the limited capacity to sequester soil organic carbon (SOC) in old forests are poorly understood. Ecological theory predicts that plants and microorganisms jointly evolve into a more mutualistic relationship to accelerate detritus decomposition and nutrient regeneration in old than young forests, likely explaining the changes in C sinks across forest succession or rewilding. To test this hypothesis, we conducted a field experiment of root-mycorrhizal exclusion in successional subtropical forests to investigate plant-decomposer interactions and their effects on SOC sequestration. Our results showed that SOC accrual rate at the 0-10 cm soil layer was 1.26 mg g-1 yr-1 in early-successional arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) forests, which was higher than that in the late-successional ectomycorrhizal (EcM) forests with non-significant change. A transition from early-successional AM to late-successional EcM forests increase fungal diversity, especially EcM fungi. In the late-successional forests, the presence of ectomycorrhizal hyphae promotes SOC decomposition and nutrient cycle by increasing soil nitrogen and phosphorus degrading enzyme activity as well as saprotrophic microbial richness. Across early- to late-successional forests, mycorrhizal priming effects on SOC decomposition explain a slow-down in the capacity of older forests to sequester soil C. Our findings suggest that a transition from AM to EcM forests supporting greater C decomposition can halt the capacity of forests to provide nature-based global climate change solutions.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) represents a complex pathology within the central nervous system (CNS), leading to severe sensory and motor impairments. It activates various signaling pathways, notably the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. Present treatment approaches primarily focus on symptomatic relief, lacking efficacy in addressing the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. Emerging research underscores the significance of the MAPK pathway in neuronal differentiation, growth, survival, axonal regeneration, and inflammatory responses post-SCI. Modulating this pathway post-injury has shown promise in attenuating inflammation, minimizing apoptosis, alleviating neuropathic pain, and fostering neural regeneration. Given its pivotal role, the MAPK pathway emerges as a potential therapeutic target in SCI management. This review synthesizes current knowledge on SCI pathology, delineates the MAPK pathway's characteristics, and explores its dual roles in SCI pathology and therapeutic interventions. Furthermore, it addresses the existing challenges in MAPK research in the context of SCI, proposing solutions to overcome these hurdles. Our aim is to offer a comprehensive reference for future research on the MAPK pathway and SCI, laying the groundwork for targeted therapeutic strategies.

Conventional computing systems based on von Neumann architecture face challenges such as high power consumption and limited data processing capability. Improving device performance via scaling guided by Moore's Law becomes increasingly difficult. Emerging memristors can provide a promising solution for achieving high-performance computing systems with low power consumption. In particular, the development of flexible memristors is an important topic for wearable electronics, which can lead to intelligent systems in daily life with high computing capacity and efficiency. Here, recent advances in flexible memristors are reviewed, from operating mechanisms and typical materials to representative applications. Potential directions and challenges for future study in this area are also discussed.

Polymer-mediated cytosolic protein delivery demonstrates a promising strategy for the development of protein therapeutics. Here, we propose a new designed diblock copolymer which realizes efficient cytosolic protein delivery both in vitro and in vivo. The polymer contains one protein-binding block composed of phenylboronic acid (PBA) and N-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) (DMAP) pendant units for protein binding and endosomal escape, respectively, followed by the response to ATP enriched in the cytosol which triggers the protein release. The other block is PEG designed to improve particle size control and circulation in vivo. By optimizing the block composition, sequence and length of the copolymer, the optimal one (BP20) was identified with the binding block containing 20 units of both PBA and DMAP, randomly distributed along the chain. When mixed with proteins, the BP20 forms stable nanoparticles and mediates efficient cytosolic delivery of a wide range of proteins including enzymes, toxic proteins and CRISPR/Cas9 ribonucleoproteins (RNP), to various cell lines. The PEG block, especially when further modified with folic acid (FA), enables tumor-targeted delivery of Saporin in vivo, which significantly suppresses the tumor growth. Our results shall inspire the design of novel polymeric vehicles with robust capability for cytosolic protein delivery, which holds great potential for both biological research and therapeutic applications.

OBJECTIVES: This study investigated the diagnostic performance of dual-energy computed tomography (CT) and deep learning for the preoperative classification of equivocal lymph nodes (LNs) on CT images in thyroid cancer patients. METHODS: In this prospective study, from October 2020 to March 2021, 375 patients with thyroid disease underwent thin-section dual-energy thyroid CT at a small field of view (FOV) and thyroid surgery. The data of 183 patients with 281 LNs were analyzed. The targeted LNs were negative or equivocal on small FOV CT images. Six deep-learning models were used to classify the LNs on conventional CT images. The performance of all models was compared with pathology reports. RESULTS: Of the 281 LNs, 65.5% had a short diameter of less than 4 mm. Multiple quantitative dual-energy CT parameters significantly differed between benign and malignant LNs. Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that the best combination of parameters had an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.857, with excellent consistency and discrimination, and its diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity were 74.4% and 84.2%, respectively (p < 0.001). The visual geometry group 16 (VGG16) based model achieved the best accuracy (86%) and sensitivity (88%) in differentiating between benign and malignant LNs, with an AUC of 0.89. CONCLUSIONS: The VGG16 model based on small FOV CT images showed better diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity than the spectral parameter model. Our study presents a noninvasive and convenient imaging biomarker to predict malignant LNs without suspicious CT features in thyroid cancer patients. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Our study presents a deep-learning-based model to predict malignant lymph nodes in thyroid cancer without suspicious features on conventional CT images, which shows better diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity than the regression model based on spectral parameters. KEY POINTS: Many cervical lymph nodes (LNs) do not express suspicious features on conventional computed tomography (CT). Dual-energy CT parameters can distinguish between benign and malignant LNs. Visual geometry group 16 model shows superior diagnostic accuracy and sensitivity for malignant LNs.

Subtropical forests, recognized for their intricate vertical canopy stratification, exhibit high resistance to extreme drought. However, the response of leaf phenology to drought in the species-rich understory remains poorly understood. In this study, we constructed a digital camera system, amassing over 360,000 images through a 70% throughfall exclusion experiment, to explore the drought response of understory leaf phenology. The results revealed a significant advancement in understory leaf senescence phenology under drought, with 11.75 and 15.76 days for the start and end of the leaf-falling event, respectively. Pre-season temperature primarily regulated leaf development phenology, whereas soil water dominated the variability in leaf senescence phenology. Under drought conditions, temperature sensitivities for the end of leaf emergence decreased from -13.72 to -11.06 days °C-1, with insignificance observed for the start of leaf emergence. Consequently, drought treatment shortened both the length of the growing season (15.69 days) and the peak growth season (9.80 days) for understory plants. Moreover, this study identified diverse responses among intraspecies and interspecies to drought, particularly during the leaf development phase. These findings underscore the pivotal role of water availability in shaping understory phenology patterns, especially in subtropical forests.

BACKGROUND: Post-anesthetic emergence agitation is common after general anesthesia and may cause adverse consequences, such as injury as well as respiratory and circulatory complications. Emergence agitation after general anesthesia occurs more frequently in nasal surgery than in other surgical procedures. This study aimed to assess the occurrence of emergence agitation in patients undergoing nasal surgery who were extubated under deep anesthesia or when fully awake. METHODS: A total of 202 patients (18-60 years, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification: I-II) undergoing nasal surgery under general anesthesia were randomized 1:1 into two groups: a deep extubation group (group D) and an awake extubation group (group A). The primary outcome was the incidence of emergence agitation. The secondary outcomes included number of emergence agitations, sedation score, vital signs, and incidence of adverse events. RESULTS: The incidence of emergence agitation was lower in group D than in group A (34.7% vs. 72.8%; p < 0.001). Compared to group A, patients in group D had lower Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale scores, higher Ramsay sedation scores, fewer agitation episodes, and lower mean arterial pressure when extubated and 30 min after surgery, whereas these indicators did not differ 90 min after surgery. There was no difference in the incidence of adverse events between the two groups. CONCLUSIONS: Extubation under deep anesthesia can significantly reduce emergence agitation after nasal surgery under general anesthesia without increasing the incidence of adverse events. The effect of immunoinflammation on bone repair during the recovery process of bone defects needs to be further explored. It is reported that Mg2+ can promote bone repair with immunoregulatory effect, but the underlying mechanism on adaptive immunity is still unclear. Here, by using chitosan and hyaluronic acid-coated Mg2+ (CSHA-Mg) in bone-deficient mice, it is shown that Mg2+ can inhibit the activation of CD4+ T cells and increase regulatory T cell formation by inducing immunosuppressive dendritic cells (imDCs). Mechanistically, Mg2+ initiates the activation of the MAPK signaling pathway through TRPM7 channels on DCs. This process subsequently induces the downstream HIF-1α expression, a transcription factor that amplifies TGF-ß production and inhibits the effective T cell function. In vivo, knock-out of HIF-1α in DCs or using a HIF-1α inhibitor PX-478 reverses inhibition of bone inflammation and repair promotion upon Mg2+-treatment. Moreover, roxadustat, which stabilizes HIF-1α protein expression, can significantly promote immunosuppression and bone repair in synergism with CSHA-Mg. Thus, the findings identify a key mechanism for DCs and its HIF-1α-TGF-ß axis in the induction of immunosuppressive bone microenvironment, providing potential targets for bone regeneration.

Despite the booming progress of anticancer nanomedicines in the past two decades, precise tumor-targetability and sufficient tumor-accumulation are less successful and still require further research. To tackle this challenge, herein we present a biomolecular motor (FOF1-ATPase)-embedded chromatophore as nanorobot to efficiently overcome biological barriers, and thoroughly investigate its chemotactic motility, tumor-accumulation ability and endocytosis. Chromatophores embedded with FOF1-ATPase motors were firstly extracted from Thermus thermophilus, then their properties were fully characterized. Specifically, two microfluidic platforms (laminar flow microchip and tumor microenvironment (TME) microchip) were designed and developed to fully investigate the motility, tumor-accumulation ability and endocytosis of the chromatophore nanorobot (CN). The results from the laminar flow microchip indicated that the obtained CN possessed the strongly positive chemotaxis towards protons. And the TME microchip experiments verified that the CN had a desirable tumor-accumulation ability. Cellular uptake experiments demonstrated that the CN efficiently promoted the endocytosis of the fluorescence DiO into the HT-29 cells. And the in vivo studies revealed that the intravenously administered CN exhibited vigorous tumor-targetability and accumulation ability as well as highly efficient antitumor efficacy. All the results suggested that FOF1-ATPase motors-embedded CN could be promising nanomachines with powerful self-propulsion for overcoming physiological barriers and tumor-targeted drug delivery. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE: In this study, we demonstrated that FOF1-ATPase-embedded chromatophore nanorobots exhibit a strong proton chemotaxis, which not only plays a key role in tumor-targetability and accumulation, but also promotes tumor tissue penetration and internalization. The results of in vitro and in vivo studies indicated that drug-loaded chromatophore nanorobots are capable to simultaneously accomplish tumor-targeting, accumulation, penetration and internalization for enhanced tumor therapy. Our study provides a fundamental basis for further study on FOF1-ATPase-embedded chromatophore as tumor-targeting drug delivery systems that have promising clinical applications. It offers a new and more efficient delivery vehicle for cancer related therapeutics.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the diagnostic value of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) quantitative parameters in the identification of regional lymph node metastasis in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). METHODS: This retrospective diagnostic study assessed 145 patients with pathologically confirmed pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma from August 2016-October 2020. Quantitative parameters for targeted lymph nodes were measured using DECT, and all parameters were compared between benign and metastatic lymph nodes to determine their diagnostic value. A logistic regression model was constructed; the receiver operator characteristics curve was plotted; the area under the curve (AUC) was calculated to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of each energy DECT parameter; and the DeLong test was used to compare AUC differences. Model evaluation was used for correlation analysis of each DECT parameter. RESULTS: Statistical differences in benign and metastatic lymph nodes were found for several parameters. Venous phase iodine density had the highest diagnostic efficacy as a single parameter, with AUC 0.949 [95% confidence interval (CI):0.915-0.972, threshold: 3.95], sensitivity 79.80%, specificity 96.00%, and accuracy 87.44%. Regression models with multiple parameters had the highest diagnostic efficacy, with AUC 0.992 (95% CI: 0.967-0.999), sensitivity 95.96%, specificity 96%, and accuracy 94.97%, which was higher than that for a single DECT parameter, and the difference was statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Among all DECT parameters for regional lymph node metastasis in PDAC, venous phase iodine density has the highest diagnostic efficacy as a single parameter, which is convenient for use in clinical settings, whereas a multiparametric regression model has higher diagnostic value compared with the single-parameter model.

We used the data from the NHANES cross-sectional study among 14,113 participants and indicated a positive correlation between alcohol intake frequency and bone mineral density in different body sites. Mendelian randomization was conducted, and no causal relationship is significant between these two variables. The study can provide some suggestions on the daily consumption of alcohol for osteoporosis patients. PURPOSE: The effect of alcohol intake on bone mineral density (BMD) remains unclear. This study explored the association and causality between alcohol intake and BMD. METHODS: Based on the 2005-2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey including 14,113 participants, we conducted co-variate-adjusted multilinear regression analyses to explore the association between alcohol intake levels and spine or femur BMD. To evaluate the causal association between alcohol intake frequency and bone mineral density, the inverse variance weighted approach of two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) was used with genetic data from the Medical Research Council Integrative Epidemiology Unit (462,346 cases) for alcohol intake frequency and the Genetic Factors for Osteoporosis Consortium (28,496 cases) for lumbar spine and femur neck BMD (32,735 cases). RESULTS: Compared with non-drinkers, total femur BMDs but not total spine BMD increased with daily alcohol intake in males (ß = 3.63*10-2 for mild drinkers, ß = 4.21*10-2 for moderate drinkers, and ß = 4.26*10-2 for heavy drinkers). By contrast, the higher total spine BMD in females was related to higher alcohol intake levels (ß = 2.15*10-2 for mild drinkers, ß = 2.59*10-2 for moderate drinkers, and ß = 3.88*10-2 for heavy drinkers). Regarding the two-sample MR results, no causal relationship was observed between alcohol intake frequency and lumbar spine BMD (odds ratio [OR] = 1.016, P = 0.789) or femur neck BMD (OR = 1.048, P = 0.333). CONCLUSION: This study suggests a positive association between alcohol intake frequency and BMD, although the causal relationship was not significant.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the correlation between lesion location and swallowing function characteristics in post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We enrolled 133 PSD. The patients were divided into supratentorial and infratentorial stroke groups. We compared the measurements in the videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) with 3ml and 5 ml of diluted and thickened barium liquid data between supratentorial and brainstem stroke groups. We further compared the difference of VFSS measurements between patients with left hemispheric or right hemispheric lesions (further divided into unilateral hemispheric cortical and subcortical subgroups) and brianstem leison stroke group.To explore the lesion location's effect on different bolus volume, the VFSS measurements of 3ml and 5ml in each subgroups were compared respectively. The measurements of VFSS included the oral transit time, soft palate elevation duration, hyoid bone movement duration (HMD), UES opening duration, pharyngeal transit duration (PTD), stage of ansition duration, and laryngeal closure duration (LCD), the upper esophageal sphincter opening (UESO), hyoid bone superior horizontal displacement, and hyoid bone anterior horizontal displacement. General swallowing function was assessed using the Penetration Aspiration Scale (PAS) and Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS). We performed the paired t-test, Spearman's correlation, and Kruskal-Wallis test analysis to characterize the parameters among the groups. RESULTS: Fifty-eight patients were assessed in the final analysis. The HMD (p = 0.019), PTD (p = 0.048) and LCD (p = 0.013) were significantly different between the supratentorial and brainstem lesion groups in 5ml volume. The HMD was significantly different (p = 0.045) between the left cortical and brainstem lesion groups. Significant differences in the HMD (p = 0.037) and LCD (p = 0.032) between the left subcortical and brainstem lesion groups were found in 5ml volume bolus. There was no group different when taking the 3ml volume bolus. Regarding the relationship between food bolus volume and swallowing functions, only the UESO demonstrated a significant difference in the subcortical lesion of the right hemisphere (p = 0.0032) compared the 3 ml and 5 ml volume bolus. The PTD demonstrated a moderate correlation with the PAS scores (r = 0.38, p = 0.0044). The HMD (r = 0.32, p = 0.018) and LCD (r = 0.29, p = 0.039) demonstrated weak correlations with the PAS scores. We did not identify any correlation between the VFSS parameters and FOIS scores in each subgroup level. CONCLUSION: The PSD with brainstem lesion shows more sever dysfunction in the pharyngeal phases. The left hemisphere was engaged in both the oral and pharyngeal phases. Lesions in the bilateral cortical, subcortical, and brainstem regions may impair sensory input.

Alcohol use disorder (AUD) has been associated with attentional deficits and impairments of working memory. Meanwhile, attention and working memory are critical for time perception. However, it remains unclear how time perception alters in AUD patients and how attention and working memory affect their time perception. The current study aims to clarify the time perception characteristics of AUD patients and the cognitive mechanisms underlying their time perception dysfunction. Thirty-one patients (three of them were excluded) with AUD and thirty-one matched controls completed the Time Bisection Task, Attention Network Test and Digital Span Backward Test to assess their abilities in time perception, attention network and working memory, respectively. The results showed that, after controlling for anxiety, depression, and impulsivity, AUD patients had a lower proportion of 'long' responses at intervals of 600, 750, 900, 1050 and 1200 ms. Furthermore, they displayed higher subjective equivalence points and higher Weber ratios compared to controls. Moreover, AUD patients showed impaired alerting and executive control networks as well as reduced working memory resources. Only working memory resources mediated the impact of AUD on time perception. In conclusion, our findings suggested that the duration underestimation in AUD patients is predominantly caused by working memory deficits.

Mycorrhizal associations are considered as one of the key drivers for soil carbon (C) accumulation and stability. However, how mycorrhizal associations influence soil organic C (SOC) and its fractions (i.e., particulate organic C [POC] and mineral-associated organic C [MAOC]) remain unclear. In this study, we examined effects of plant mycorrhizal associations with arbuscular mycorrhiza (AM), ectomycorrhiza (ECM), and their mixture (Mixed) on SOC and its fractions as well as soil stoichiometric ratios across 800-km transect in permafrost regions. Our results showed that soil with only ECM-associated trees had significantly higher SOC and POC compared to only AM-associated tree species, while soil in Mixed plots with both AM- and ECM- associated trees tend to be somewhat in the middle. Using structural equation models, we found that mycorrhizal association significantly influenced SOC and its fraction (i.e., POC, MAOC) indirectly through soil stoichiometric ratios (C:N, C:P, and N:P). These results suggest that selecting ECM tree species, characterized by a "slow cycling" nutrient uptake strategy, can effectively enhance accumulation of SOC and its fractions in permafrost forest ecosystems. Our findings provide novel insights for quantitatively assessing the influence of mycorrhiza-associated tree species on the management of soil C pool and biogeochemical cycling.
