BACKGROUND: After COVID-19 infection, long-term impacts on functioning may occur. We studied the functioning of patients with post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) and compared them to controls without PCC. METHODS: This cross-sectional study consisted of 442 patients with PCC referred to rehabilitation at the Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) Outpatient Clinic for the Long-Term Effects of COVID-19, and 198 controls without PCC. Functioning was assessed with a questionnaire including WHODAS 2.0. Patients underwent physical testing including a hand grip strength test (HGST) and a 6-minute walking test (6MWT). Lifestyle was assessed by questionnaire and comorbidities were collected as ICD-10 codes from the HUS Data Lake on the HUS Acamedic platform. RESULTS: The WHODAS 2.0 average total score was 34 (SD 18) (moderate functional limitation) for patients with PCC and 6 (SD 8) (normal or mild limitation) for the controls. The disability was higher in all aspects of WHODAS 2.0 in patients with PCC. Bivariate binomial and multivariable regression analyses showed that the presence of comorbidities, anxiety, depression, and smoking predicted a WHODAS 2.0 score of 24 (moderate functional limitation) or above in the PCC group. The average 6MWT distance was 435 m (SD 98 m) in patients with PCC and 627 m (SD 70 m) in controls. HGST measurements showed no significant differences from controls. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, patients with PCC had significantly reduced functioning based on WHODAS 2.0 scores and the 6MWT results. Comorbidities, anxiety, depression, and smoking were associated with moderate or severe limitations in functioning. Findings support that PCC is multifactorial and requires a holistic approach to rehabilitation.


The post-COVID-19 condition (PCC) has been shown to negatively impact functioning, quality of life, and mental health, with cognitive and physical impairments being prevalent.This study found that patients with PCC had significantly reduced functioning compared to controls.Key factors predicting severe disability included comorbidities, smoking, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression.The reduced functioning in patients with PCC appears to be multifactorial and not only related to COVID-19 infection.

Background: The long-term effect of the 2019 coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is not fully known. Severe cases of COVID-19 have resulted in disability that can be assessed in a biopsychosocial manner with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health with the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) questionnaire. This study aimed to evaluate the long-term effects on disability of COVID-19 three years after post-acute rehabilitation using WHODAS 2.0. Methods: This single-center cohort study included patients with severe COVID-19 who underwent immediate post-discharge post-acute rehabilitation intervention. Three years later, patients were assessed via telephone using the WHODAS 2.0 questionnaire. Results: Of the 69 patients identified in the hospital database, 27 responded. A total of 16 patients refused to respond due to emotional distress. The mean age was 63.4 ± 8.6 years, 81.5% were independent in the community, 55.3% had been previously admitted to the ICU, and the median rehabilitation hospitalization duration was 18 (11.5,24) days. Comorbidities included type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) (55.5%), grade 2 high blood pressure (62.9%), pressure ulcers (37%), peripheral neurologic deficits (62.9%), and central neurological deficits (14.8%). ICU admission was significantly correlated with advanced rehabilitation needs (measured by the level of the rehabilitation (p < 0.01) and longer hospitalizations (measured by total days in the hospital (p < 0.001). The overall disability score was 35.09%, significantly influenced by DM and central neurological deficits. Conclusions: Central neurological deficits and DM are associated with higher disability scores. Tailored rehabilitation programs, ongoing medical assessment, integrated care models, and patient education are essential for improving long-term outcomes after COVID-19 disease.

OBJECTIVE: The current study aims to develop an algorithm for mapping the WHODAS 2.0 to the EQ-5D-5 L for patients with mental disorders. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at the Institute of Mental Health and Community Wellness Clinics in Singapore between June 2019 and November 2022. We included four regression methods including the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression, the Tobit regression model (Tobit), the robust regression with MM estimator (MM), and the adjusted limited dependent variable mixture model (ALDVMM) to map EQ-5D-5 L utility scores from the WHODAS 2.0. RESULTS: A total of 797 participants were included. The mean EQ-5D-5 L utility and WHODAS 2.0 total scores were 0.615 (SD = 0.342) and 11.957 (SD = 8.969), respectively. We found that the EQ-5D-5 L utility score was best predicted by the robust regression model with the MM estimator. Our findings suggest that the WHODAS 2.0 total scores were significantly and inversely associated with the EQ-5D-5 L utility scores. CONCLUSION: This study provides a mapping algorithm for converting the WHODAS 2.0 scores into EQ-5D-5 L utility scores which can be implemented using a simple online calculator in the following web application: https://eastats.shinyapps.io/whodas_eq5d/.

Worldwide, lung cancer remains the predominant cause of cancer cases and deaths and poses significant health challenges, with surgical resection being a key treatment. Post-surgery, patients often experience functional impairments. This study aimed to develop a comprehensive ICF version for assessing the functional profile and disability in lung cancer patients post-thoracic surgery undergoing pulmonary rehabilitation using the ICF and WHODAS 2.0 tool. We analyzed the correlation between the ICF Core Set and WHODAS 2.0 data to understand the impact on daily functioning. This study included 50 patients (23 F, 27 M) from the Clinic of Thoracic Surgery and Respiratory Rehabilitation in Lodz. Essential ICF codes were determined using the Delphi method, and assessments were conducted on the third day post-operation. Statistical analyses included various tests with α = 0.05. The results showed no impairments in voice functions (b310), respiration rates (b4400), and diaphragm functions (b4451), but there were significant issues with chest pain (b28011), respiratory muscle functions (b445), exercise tolerance (b455), and muscle endurance (b740). In Activities and Participation and Environmental Factors, most codes were not problematic, except for employment (d845, d850) and atmospheric pressure (e2252). Significant correlations were found between mobility limitations (d410, d460) and self-care (d510, d540) with the WHODAS 2.0 results. The comprehensive ICF Core Set effectively described the functional profile of post-surgery patients, confirming its utility and highlighting the impact of disability on daily functioning.

(1) Background: The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) is a tool designed to measure disability in accordance with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. Measuring disability is becoming increasingly important due to its high prevalence, which continues to rise. Rehabilitation interventions can reduce disability and enhance functioning. (2) Objective: The present study aims to assess the impact of rehabilitation interventions on reducing disability, as measured by the WHODAS 2.0 questionnaire. It also seeks to identify which specific rehabilitation interventions are more effective and to explore other disability assessment questionnaires. (3) Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology, we conducted a systematic review, with the protocol registered with the identifier CRD42023495309, focused on "WHODAS" and "rehabilitation" using PubMed and Web of Science electronic databases. (4) Results: We identified 18 articles from various regions encompassing patients with various health conditions, related to stroke, the cardiovascular system (cardiovascular disease, chronic heart failure), the pulmonary system (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), the neurologic system (Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy, neurodegenerative disease), the musculoskeletal system (orthopaedic surgery), cancer, and chronic pain, and among frail elderly. These patients have received a wide range of rehabilitation interventions: from conventional therapy to virtual reality, robot-assisted arm training, exergaming, and telerehabilitation. (5) Discussion and Conclusions: A wide range of rehabilitation techniques can effectively improve disability with various comorbidities, offering numerous benefits. The WHODAS 2.0 questionnaire proves to be an efficient and reliable tool for measuring disability, and scores have a tendency to decrease after rehabilitation.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the present study was to report on the prevalence of disability and its association with sociodemographic factors among welfare benefit applicants in Greece. The study also compared the disability scores between different health conditions using the WHODAS 2.0 (12-item version), a biopsychosocial-model-based measure. METHODS: The Greek WHODAS 2.0, 12-item version, was administered by interview. A three-member medical committee assessed the medical records of the applicants and assigned a disability percentage based on the biomedical measure of disability percentage determination (Barema scale). RESULTS: The majority of the participants were female (56.65%). Certain health conditions were presented more frequently among welfare benefit applicants (mental health disorders and neoplasms). The domains with the highest rate of difficulty were the "participation" and "life activities" domains. Significant differences were found between WHODAS 2.0 and Barema scores for all eight different health condition categories. The factorial ANOVA (8x2) showed a significant interaction effect between health condition category and gender with respect to the WHODAS 2.0 score (F = 19.033, p <.001, η2 = 0.13). The WHODAS 2.0 score was negatively correlated to gender, years of studies, and marital status and positively correlated to age, working status, and the Barema score. The results revealed that male participants with a partner who were younger, had more studies, were actively working, and had a lower Barema score would have lower WHODAS scores. CONCLUSION: Sociodemographic characteristics of welfare benefit applicants are associated with disability levels based on WHODAS 2.0. Certain health conditions, like mental health or neuromusculoskeletal conditions, are associated with higher disability scores. There are differences between the biopsychosocial and the biomedical approaches to disability assessment. The implementation of WHODAS 2.0 may contribute to a better understanding of the lived experience of patients and is a feasible and efficient tool. Combining biomedical and biopsychosocial approaches may enhance the procedures of disability assessment and help in the development of policies that support people with disabilities.

AIM: This study aimed to compare the 12-item and 36-item versions of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0 using longitudinal data from community mental health outreach service users. METHODS: Using data from Tokorozawa City mental health outreach service users in Japan, total and domain WHODAS-12 and WHODAS-36 scores were compared. First, we examined score-change differences by domain at the start of outreach services (T1) and 1 year later (T2) for each version. Next, we compared differences between the two versions using Pearson's correlation, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and Bland-Altman analysis. RESULTS: Among 20 participants, total scores and scores of some domains (i.e., cognition, getting along, life activities, and participation) were significantly lower at T2 than at T1 on both versions (p < 0.010). WHODAS-36 scores were significantly lower at T2 than at T1 for the self-care domain (p = 0.018). Except for self-care, strong correlations were found between scores from the two versions (p < 0.001). In the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and Bland-Altman analysis, we found significant differences between the scores of the two versions in the mobility, self-care, and participation domains. There were no significant differences in the distribution or systematic errors between the two versions in scores for the other domains or total score. CONCLUSION: We found strong positive correlations between WHODAS-12 and WHODAS-36 total scores with no statistical differences between them. For some domains, differences in distribution and systematic errors were found.

PURPOSE: To analyze the reliability and validity of the WHODAS 2.0 instrument for women with urinary incontinence (UI). METHODS: This is a methodological study with Brazilian women with complaints of urge, stress or mixed UI, over 18 years old, without cognitive disorders. The WHODAS 2.0 (36-item version) and the auxiliary instruments were applied through face-to-face and telephone interviews after 7-14 d. The psychometric properties evaluated were: Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for intra-rater test-retest, Spearman's correlation coefficient (rho) for construct validity of WHODAS 2.0 with auxiliary instruments; and ANOVA for discriminative validity with UI severity. RESULTS: 101 women with UI with a mean age of 50.71 ± 10.39 were included. WHODAS 2.0 showed good reliability in all domains and excellent reliability in the total score (>0.80). The intra-evaluator test-retest showed ICC values between 0.59 and 0.87 (p < 0.001). We observed a positive correlation between the WHODAS 2.0 domains and the instruments recommended by International Continence Society (ICS), with greater emphasis on moderate correlation with the Urinary Impact Questionnaire (IUQ-7) subscale (rho = 0.730 p < 0.001). CONCLUSION: The WHODAS 2.0 instrument is a reliable and valid questionnaire for investigating the functioning and disability of women with UI.


The WHODAS 2.0 is a valid and reliable tool for future functioning research with women with urinary incontinence.The WHODAS 2.0 can be used in clinical practice to assess disabilities in women with urinary incontinence.The validation of WHODAS 2.0 reinforces the need for rehabilitation based on the functioning needs of each patient with urinary incontinence.The WHODAS 2.0 assesses functioning based on the biopsychosocial model, supported by the ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health).

Background: Prolonged disability resulting from road traffic injuries (RTIs) contributes significantly to morbidity and disease burden. A good understanding of the prevalence and the level of disability of orthopaedic injuries in developing countries is crucial for improvement; however, such data are currently lacking in Rwanda. Objectives: To determine the prevalence and levels of disability of 2 years post-road traffic orthopaedic injuries in Rwanda. Method: A multicentre, cross-sectional study from five Rwandan referral hospitals of 368 adult RTI victims' sustained from accidents in 2019. Between 02 June 2022, and 31 August 2022, two years after the injury, participants completed the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) Questionnaire for the degree of impairment and the Upper Extremity Functional Scale and Lower-Extremity Functional Scale forms for limb functional evaluation. Descriptive, inferential statistics Chi-square and multinomial regression models were analysed using R Studio. Results: The study's mean age of the RTOI victims was 37.5 (±11.26) years, with a sex ratio M: F:3: 1. The prevalence of disability following road traffic orthopedic injury (RTOI) after 2 years was 36.14%, with victims having WHODAS score > 25.0% and 36.31% were still unable to return to their usual activities. Age group, Severe Kampala Trauma Score and lack of rehabilitation contributed to disability. The most affected WHODAS domains were participation in society (33%) and life activities (28%). Conclusion: The prevalence and levels of disability because of RTOI in Rwanda are high, with mobility and participation in life being more affected than other WHODAS domains. Middle-aged and socio-economically underprivileged persons are the most affected. Contribution: This study showed that a good rehabilitation approach and economic support for the RTI victims would decrease their disabilities in Rwanda.

BACKGROUND: The Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) and the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Scale (WHODAS 2.0) have been widely used to measure functional impairment and disability. To ensure that the scores from these two scales are practically exchangeable across diseases, therapies, and care programmes, the current study aimed to examine the linkage of the WHODAS 2.0 with the SDS and develop a simple and reliable conversion table for the two scales in people with mental disorders. METHODS: A total of 798 patients (mean age = 36.1, SD = 12.7) were recruited from outpatient clinics of the Institute of Mental Health, and the Community Wellness Clinic in Singapore. Using a single-group design, an equipercentile equating method with log-linear smoothing was used to establish a conversion table from the SDS to the WHODAS 2.0 and vice versa. RESULTS: The conversion table showed that the scores were consistent for the entire range of scores when the scores were converted either from the SDS to the WHODAS 2.0 or from the WHODAS 2.0 to the SDS. The agreement between the WHODAS 2.0's raw and converted scores and SDS's raw and converted scores were interpreted as good with intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.711 and 0.725, respectively. CONCLUSION: This study presents a simple and reliable method for converting the SDS scores to the WHODAS 2.0 scores and vice versa, enabling interchangeable use of data across these two disability measures.

BACKGROUND: Stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Assessing stroke's impact on patients' daily activities and social participation can provide important complementary information to their rehabilitation process. However, no previous study had been conducted on the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) in the stroke population. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to examine the internal consistency, test-retest and inter-rater reliability, convergent validity and floor/ceiling effect of the Brazilian version of the WHODAS 2.0 in individuals after chronic stroke. METHODS: Two examiners interviewed 53 chronic stroke individuals who responded to the Brazilian 36-item version of the WHODAS 2.0 three times to analyze test-retest and inter-rater reliabilities. Floor/ceiling effects were calculated as relative frequencies of the lowest or the highest possible WHODAS 2.0 scores. Participants also responded to the Stroke Impact Scale 3.0 (SIS 3.0) and the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) to analyze convergent validity. RESULTS: The internal consistency analyses for domains of WHODAS showed a strong correlation among the items of each domain (0.76-0.91) except for the "getting along" domain, which presented a moderate correlation (ρ = 0,62). Total scores of WHODAS 2.0 showed satisfactory internal consistency (α = 0.93), good inter-rater reliability (ICC = 0.85), excellent test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.92) and no significant floor/ceiling effect. Convergent validity indicated moderate to strong correlations (ρ=-0.51 to ρ=-0.88; p < 0.001), with the highest values associated with the correlation with the SIS scale. CONCLUSIONS: The Brazilian version of the WHODAS 2.0 instrument presented evidence of reliability and validity for chronic post-stroke individuals.

PURPOSE: To analyse longitudinally patient- and proxy-perceptions on stroke survivors'(SSs') functioning using the 12-item WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS) after subacute inpatient stroke rehabilitation. METHODS: Sixty-five SSs and their significant others(proxies) responded to WHODAS questionnaire at discharge and 9 to 50 months later. Self-WHODAS ratings were compared with corresponding proxy-perceptions and informal ratings on self-reported functional recovery. RESULTS: On average, SSs' functioning improved after discharge, except according to self-WHODAS ratings of those with severe stroke. Individual changes were, however, notable. Association between time and change was statistically insignificant. SSs perceived greatest improvements in walking, household tasks, community life and working ability. The only items showing slight deterioration were emotions and relationships. In parallel, proxies rated all items except emotions and relationships improved. At discharge, proxies rated SSs' functioning more impaired than SSs themselves, mostly regarding those with severe stroke. Still, inter-rater reliability was very strong and increased significantly with time (ICC 0.799 vs. 0.979 at follow-up). Ninety percent of SSs with improved functioning according to self-WHODAS reported better functioning also in the informal questionnaire. CONCLUSION: WHODAS showed improvements in SSs' functioning 9-50 months after discharge from subacute stroke rehabilitation. Improvements were in line with proxy-perception and self-reported functional recovery.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONStroke survivors' functioning improved significantly during the 9-50 months follow-up after subacute inpatient stroke rehabilitation.Stroke survivors perceived slightly less difficulties in their functioning compared to evaluations by proxies.Strong correlation between patient- and proxy-perceptions on stroke survivors' functioning strengthened from subacute to chronic phase of stroke recovery.The 12-item WHODAS 2.0 seems to be a valuable patient- and proxy-reported outcome measure to assess longitudinal changes in stroke survivors' functioning after stroke.

INTRODUCTION: The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) provides a framework for the biopsychosocial model of disability and was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO). The World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS 2.0) is an ICF-based tool that measures health and disability at the population level or in clinical practice. The aim of the study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Greek version of the WHODAS 2.0 (12-item) administered to 10,163 adults who had applied for welfare benefits in three regions of Greece. METHODS: The WHODAS 2.0, administered by interview was the primary outcome variable. Principal axis factoring (PAF) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) assessed the data fit to the model (construct validity). The correlation between Barema disability percentage (assessed by a three-member medical committee) and WHODAS 2.0 score and the correlation between WHODAS 2.0 score and the number of comorbidities were also examined (concurrent validity). Cronbach's alpha was used to assess the internal consistency of the questionnaire. Floor and ceiling effects were also examined. RESULTS: Internal consistency was acceptable (Cronbach's alpha=0.918). A significant association was found between Barema disability percentage and the WHODAS 2.0 score. Factor analysis showed a clear two-factor solution (PAF and CFA), while no floor or ceiling effects were evident. CONCLUSION: The Greek version of the 12-item WHODAS 2.0 was found to be reliable and valid in a wide sample of applicants for welfare benefits.

BACKGROUND: A high prevalence of epilepsy has been observed in the onchocerciasis-endemic focus of Mahenge, Tanzania. This study sought to assess the degree of disability experienced by persons with epilepsy (PWE) in Mahenge and identify associations with sociodemographic and clinical features. METHOD: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Mahenge, Tanzania, between February and July 2020. PWE were recruited from the Mahenge epilepsy clinic and four neighbouring rural villages (Mdindo, Mzogezi, Mzelezi and Sali). Data were collected using the 36-item version of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0) questionnaire for adults. For children aged 5-17 years, we used the Module on Child Functioning developed by UNICEF and the Washington Group. Questionnaires were administered by trained research assistants. Descriptive statistics were performed, and multivariable analyses (gamma and logistic regressions) were conducted. RESULTS: A total of 321 adults (45.5% males) and 48 children (55.3% males) with epilepsy participated. The overall median WHODAS 2.0 score was 4.8% (IQR: 0.9-18.9). The most affected disability domain was 'participating in the society' (median score: 12.5%, IQR: 0-29.2). Fifteen (31.3%) of the children with epilepsy had a disability in at least one domain of the child functioning module, with the 'accepting change' domain harbouring the highest proportion of disabled children (12.5%). Higher seizure frequency and longer epilepsy duration were associated with more disability. CONCLUSION: PWE in Mahenge experience variable degrees of disability. The affected domains indicate the need for societal rehabilitation of PWE in various community and/or social activities. Peer-support groups were instituted at the study sites to address these needs.

This observational study aims to describe the level of perceived disability in Cerebral Palsy (CP). We described the perception of adults by using the interviewer-administered version of the WHO disability assessment schedule (WHODAS 2.0). In case of intellectual disability (ID), the proxy-administered version was used, and a caregiver was asked to report the difficulties experienced by the patient; 199 patients were enrolled. The level of perceived disability was higher when referred to patients with ID (proxy report) than when referred to patients without ID (p < .001). For all patients, the level of perceived disability varied depending on the severity and the localization of motor impairment (both p < .001). No differences were observed based on the type of motor impairment. The perceived disability was correlated with age only for patients with no ID (p < .05). The WHODAS 2.0 may be a useful tool to explore the perception of disability in CP.

Disability is common in patients with mental disorders, and therapeutic approaches should promote functional recovery to achieve the highest quality of life. This study reports changes in WHODAS 2.0 scores at 1 year of follow-up among patients receiving care from a single mental-health nurse in a community setting in Spain and compare these changes by diagnosis (SMI vs. CMI). Baseline and 1-year follow-up scores were compared. For all participants, we collected sociodemographic information, clinical diagnosis, and disability scores according to WHODAS 2.0. Participating patients received the usual, non-manualized nursing intervention. Our sample comprised 133 patients, 75 of whom were assessed after 1 year. All patients had improved WHODAS 2.0 scores (difference of 9.20 ± 2.42; p < .001) in all domains except those domains related to work ("Life activities") and relationships ("Getting along"). Furthermore, almost half of the patients studied were no longer undergoing treatment with the nurse at 1-year follow-up.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to investigate concurrent validity of the Swedish self-rated 36-item World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule (WHODAS) 2.0 by comparison with professional Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) ratings in psychiatric outpatients. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A cross-sectional convenience sample of 444 patients was recruited from their regular psychiatric outpatient settings. The patients filled out the WHODAS 2.0; their clinicians provided clinical information and performed GAF ratings blinded to the patients' assessments. Analyses of correlations, variance components, and ROC curves were performed to investigate the validity of the WHODAS 2.0 through comparison with the GAF. The variance component analyses included working status, psychosocial problems, number of diagnostic groups, and remission status. GAF ratings were separated as total (GAF-T), symptoms (GAF-S), and functioning (GAF-F). RESULTS: There was significant correlation (p < 0.001) between WHODAS 2.0 total and domain scores and GAF-S, GAF-F, and GAF-T ratings. The correlations varied from r = 0.29 to r = 0.48, with the highest being between GAF-F rating and WHODAS 2.0 total score. Repeating the analyses for separate diagnostic groups replicated the findings, though not for psychotic, substance-related, and eating disorders. The WHODAS 2.0 showed good ability to distinguish impaired functioning below a fixed GAF-T cut-off of 70 (area under the curve: 0.74-0.78). The explained variance was lower for the WHODAS 2.0 than for the GAF (38.9% vs. 59.2%). CONCLUSIONS: Concurrent validity was found when comparing the Swedish self-administered 36-item version of WHODAS 2.0 with the expert-rated GAF in psychiatric outpatients.

PURPOSE: To investigate the impact of missing data and imputation with the response function (RF) approach on bias and precision of disability estimates as well as reliability of scale of WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Data were collected by face-to-face interviews and self-report surveys from 284 respondents with low back pain. Hypothetical datasets were created by using person and item parameters of real data. A simulation study was devised to assess the ability parameters and reliability measures on incomplete and imputed datasets. Rasch model was used to evaluate latent trait levels. Imputation was carried out using the response function method. RESULTS: Almost the same level of bias and MSE was reached. While the missing rate increases, the Person separation index slightly reduced, still exceeded 0.94 and Cronbach alpha values have similar mean values of 0.99 with larger variations. After deletion of four items of "work or school activities" in domain 5, reliability measures reduced the lowest. CONCLUSION: Construct validity is preserved. Problems regarding the compliance of the items with the target group still persist. When researchers encounter missingness in data collected with WHODAS 2.0, the response function can be usefully implemented to impute missing values to improve the reliability of disability level estimates.Implications for rehabilitationThe Turkish version of the 36-item WHODAS is reliable and valid for assessing health and disability status in patients with low back pain.A critical issue is a systematic nonresponse was highly observed in items related to "work/school life activities" which are allowed to be skipped and excluded from the scoring according to WHODAS 2.0 training manual.Imputation of missing values within four items of "work or school activities" in domain 5 using the response function approach showed satisfactory reliability for the estimation of disability in adults with low back pain.This study showed missing data imputations with response function can be implemented by a statistician as contribute to a missing data management process better tailored to clinicians' interpretations.

PURPOSE: A contribution to the Italian adaptation of the original English version of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 for children and youth (WHODAS-Child), proxy-administered among children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) without intellectual disability. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Observational and retrospective study with within-dependent variables by cross-sectional sampling on psychometric properties (internal consistency and construct/criterion validity) of the 36- and 7-item versions of the Italian WHODAS-Child. The original English version was translated into Italian, also considering the Italian version of the WHODAS 2.0 for adults. The Italian questionnaire was then translated back into English. All authors compared the original and back-translated English versions. The sample was collected among parents and clinicians of 100 children with ASD. To assess convergent/divergent validity, the Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule (ADOS) was also administered. RESULTS: Cronbach's α for both versions' total scores was good. WHODAS-Child also showed a positive correlation with the three DSM-5 levels of impairment. A pattern of correlations with the ADOS was found for all domains of the WHODAS-Child except for the mobility and self-care domains. CONCLUSIONS: The WHODAS-Child Italian proxy-administered version has the potential to be a reliable and valid tool to measure functional impairment in children with ASD. Implications for rehabilitationWorld Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 for children and youth (WHODAS-Child) has shown to be sensitive in detecting children and youth functioning in the domains of activity and participation.WHODAS-Child Italian version seems to be a reliable and valid tool to measure the functional impairment in children with autism spectrum disorder.A critical issue for rehabilitation is that a single "minimal clinically important difference" score for the WHODAS-Child has not yet been established.

PURPOSE: We examined whether patient-rated or clinician-rated needs are more strongly associated with perceived psychosocial disability (PPD) and subjective quality of life (SQOL) of schizophrenia patients, beyond symptom severity. METHODS: Hierarchical regression analyses were computed to test patient and clinician-rated unmet and met needs (estimated by eighty-two patient-clinician pairs) as predictors of PPD and SQOL above and beyond demographics and psychopathology. Needs, symptomatology, PPD and SQOL were estimated using Camberwell Assessment of Need (CAN), PANSS, WHODAS 2.0 and WHOQOL-BREF respectively. RESULTS: Needs were significantly associated with all WHODAS 2.0 and WHOQOL-BREF domains above and beyond demographics and PANSS variables. Clinician-rated needs were better predictors of only one WHODAS 2.0 domain, while patient-rated needs were better predictors of all other WHODAS 2.0 and WHOQOL-BREF domains. Patient-rated unmet needs were more strongly than met needs associated with the most WHODAS 2.0 and WHOQOL-BREF subscores. CONCLUSION: This study offers the first evidence that patient-rated needs, especially unmet needs, are strongly associated, above and beyond symptomatology, with global and domain-specific PPD of schizophrenia patients. Accordingly, strong relations of patient-rated needs with SQOL emerged. Identifying and addressing patient-reported needs could facilitate PPD and SQOL improvement more effectively than interventions confined solely to symptom remission.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSchizophrenia is associated with poor rehabilitation and recovery outcomes, i.e., perceived psychosocial disability (PPD) and subjective quality of life (SQOL).Assessment of patients' needs constitutes the basis of determining treatment goals and planning tailor-made interventions to achieve crucial rehabilitative outcomes.Higher levels of patient-reported unmet needs are associated with poorer SQOL and higher global and domain-specific PPD of schizophrenia patients, above and beyond symptom severity.Addressing patient-reported needs through personalized interventions can facilitate more effectively PPD and SQOL improvement, than treatment confined to symptomatic alleviation.
