Os dentistas são um grupo de alto risco para o desenvolvimento de doenças de desordens musculoesqueléticas e tendo em vista que o sistema de produção industrial desenvolve produtos que atendem a maioria da população destra, os estudantes canhotos precisam se adequar a uma formação acadêmica, usando instrumentais, cadeiras odontológicas eoutros objetos projetados para destros. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo a coletade informações sobre os canhotos nos cursos de Odontologia da cidade de Uberlândia ­Minas Gerais. Foram incluídos todos os alunos canhotos matriculados no ano de 2022 e que estavam cursando ou já cursaram disciplinas com atividades laboratoriais ou clínicas. Questionários foram aplicados para identificação do perfil, das dificuldades, da ergonomia e das dores osteomusculares dos alunos canhotos em suas atividades. Os dados foram em seguida tabulados e passaram por análise estatística. Da quantidade total de alunos das três instituições (n=1.578), foram entrevistados 45 (2,8%) alunos canhotos, sendo a maioria feminina (80%), na qual identificou-se um posicionamento inadequado do operador canhoto quando comparado ao preconizado pela ISO-FDI, além da limitação de movimento na presença de auxiliar (82,2%). Os locais com maior frequência de dor/desconforto foram: pescoço (79%), costas superior esquerda (63%) e inferior esquerda (61%) e punhos/ mãos esquerda (56%). A intensidade da dor variou entre alguma, moderada e bastante. O impedimento de realizar atividades diárias foi relatado por 17% dos alunos (n=7) e destes somente 1 buscou atendimento médico. Não houve diferença estatística na comparação entre instituição pública e privada. Diante dos resultados, concluiu-se que os canhotos representam minoria dos alunos de Odontologia e apresentam várias regiões de dor/ desconforto devido às adaptações e posturas erradas durante os atendimentos. Apesar de grande parte apresentar dor, poucos tiveram impedimento de atividades rotineiras ou procuraram ajuda médica(AU)


Dentists are a high risk group for the development of musculoskeletal disorders and considering that the industrial production system develops products that serve the majority of the right-handed population, lefthanded students need to adapt to an academic training, using instruments, dental chairs and other objects designed for right-handers. This study aimed to collect information about left-handers in Dentistry courses in the city of Uberlândia - Minas Gerais. All left- handed students enrolled in the year 2022 and who were taking or had taken courses with laboratory or clinical activities were included. Questionnaires were applied to identify the profile, difficulties, ergonomics and musculoskeletal pain of left-handed students in their activities. The data were tabulated and then undergo statistical analysis. Of the total number of students from the three institutions (n=1,578), 45 (2.8%) left-handed students were interviewed, the majority being female (80%), in which an inadequate positioning of the left-handed operator was identified when compared to the recommended one by ISO-FDI, in addition to limitation of movement in the presence of an assistant (82.2%). The places with the highest frequency of pain/discomfort were: neck (79%), upper left back (63%) and lower left back (61%) and left wrists/hands (56%). The intensity of pain varied between some, moderate and a lot. The impediment to carrying out daily activities was reported by 17% of the students (n=7) and of these, only 1 sought medical attention. There was no statistical difference when comparing public and private institutions. In view of the results, it was concluded that left-handers represent a minority of dentistry students and have several regions of pain/discomfort due to adaptations and wrong postures during consultations. Although most of them had pain, few were prevented from performing routine activities or sought medical help(AU)

Reservoir computing approximation and generalization bounds are proved for a new concept class of input/output systems that extends the so-called generalized Barron functionals to a dynamic context. This new class is characterized by the readouts with a certain integral representation built on infinite-dimensional state-space systems. It is shown that this class is very rich and possesses useful features and universal approximation properties. The reservoir architectures used for the approximation and estimation of elements in the new class are randomly generated echo state networks with either linear or ReLU activation functions. Their readouts are built using randomly generated neural networks in which only the output layer is trained (extreme learning machines or random feature neural networks). The results in the paper yield a recurrent neural network-based learning algorithm with provable convergence guarantees that do not suffer from the curse of dimensionality when learning input/output systems in the class of generalized Barron functionals and measuring the error in a mean-squared sense.

Granular sludge is an alternative technology for the direct treatment of acidic nitrate-containing wastewater. Rapid remediation of disintegrated granules is essential to achieve efficient nitrogen removal. In this study, denitrifying granules were inactivated and disintegrated when the influent nitrate-nitrogen concentration was elevated from 240 to 360 mg L-1 in acidic wastewater (pH = 4.1) in a sequencing batch reactor. Tightly bound extracellular polymeric substances (TB-EPS) decreased by 60%, and extracellular protein (PN) was the main component of the reduced EPS. The three-dimensional excitation emission matrices (3D-EEM) results confirmed that the PNs that decreased were mainly tryptophan-like, tyrosine-like, and aromatic. This study further confirmed that the decrease in PN was mainly from the destruction of C=O (amide I) and N-H functional groups. Overloading of nitrogen-inhibited denitrifying activity and the destruction and dissolution of TB-EPS by acidic pH were responsible for granule disintegration, with PNs playing a major role in maintaining granule stability. Based on this, new granules with an average particle size of 454.4 µm were formed after calcium chloride addition; EPS nearly doubled during granule formation with PN as the dominant component, accounting for 64.7-78.4% of the EPS. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed that PN-PN adhesion increased by 1.6-4.9 times in the presence of calcium ions, accelerating the re-granulation of disintegrated particles. This study provides new insights into the disintegration and remediation of granular sludge under acidic conditions.

Recent microbiome-brain axis findings have shown evidence of the modulation of microbiome community as an environmental mediator in brain function and psychiatric illness. This work is focused on the role of the microbiome in understanding a rarely investigated environmental involvement in schizophrenia (SZ), especially in relation to brain circuit dysfunction. We leveraged high throughput microbial 16s rRNA sequencing and functional neuroimaging techniques to enable the delineation of microbiome-brain network links in SZ. N = 213 SZ and healthy control subjects were assessed for the oral microbiome. Among them, 139 subjects were scanned by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rsfMRI) to derive brain functional connectivity. We found a significant microbiome compositional shift in SZ beta diversity (weighted UniFrac distance, p = 6 × 10-3; Bray-Curtis distance p = 0.021). Fourteen microbial species involving pro-inflammatory and neurotransmitter signaling and H2S production, showed significant abundance alterations in SZ. Multivariate analysis revealed one pair of microbial and functional connectivity components showing a significant correlation of 0.46. Thirty five percent of microbial species and 87.8 % of brain functional network connectivity from each component also showed significant differences between SZ and healthy controls with strong performance in classifying SZ from healthy controls, with an area under curve (AUC) = 0.84 and 0.87, respectively. The results suggest a potential link between oral microbiome dysbiosis and brain functional connectivity alteration in relation to SZ, possibly through immunological and neurotransmitter signaling pathways and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, supporting for future work in characterizing the role of oral microbiome in mediating effects on SZ brain functional activity.

The increasing contamination of mask wastes presents a significant global challenge to ecological health. However, there is a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the environmental risks that mask wastes pose to soil. In this study, a total of 12 mask wastes were collected from landfills. Mask wastes exhibited negligible morphological changes, and bound eight metals and four types of organic pollutants. Masks combined with pollutants inhibited the growth of alfalfa and Elymus nutans, reducing underground biomass by 84.6 %. Mask wastes decreased the Chao1 index and the relative abundances (RAs) of functional bacteria (Micrococcales, Gemmatimonadales, and Sphingomonadales). Metagenomic analysis showed that mask wastes diminished the RAs of functional genes associated with nitrification (amoABC and HAO), denitrification (nirKS and nosZ), glycolysis (gap2), and TCA cycle (aclAB and mdh), thereby inhibiting the nitrogen transformation and ATP production. Furthermore, some pathogenic viruses (Herpesviridae and Tunggulvirus) were also found on the mask wastes. Structural equation models demonstrated that mask wastes restrained soil enzyme activities, ultimately affecting nitrogen and carbon cycles. Collectively, these evidences indicate that mask wastes contribute to soil health and metabolic function disturbances. This study offers a new perspective on the potential environmental risks associated with the improper disposal of masks.

OBJECTIVE: To improve the understanding and diagnostic accuracy of disorders of consciousness (DOC) by quantifying transcranial magnetic stimulation evoked electroencephalography (TMS-EEG) connectivity using Permutation Conditional Mutual Information (PCMI). Approach: PCMI can characterize the functional connectivity between different brain regions. This study employed PCMI to analyze TMS-evoked cortical connectivity (TEC) in 154 DOC patients and 16 normal controls, focusing on optimizing parameter selection for PCMI (Data length, Order length, Time delay). We compared short-range and long-range PCMI values across different consciousness states-unresponsive wakefulness syndrome (UWS), minimally conscious state (MCS), and normal (NOR)-and assessed various feature selection and classification techniques to distinguish these states. Main Results: 1) PCMI can quantify TEC. We found optimal parameters to be Data length: 500ms; Order: 3; Time delay: 6ms. 2) TMS evoked potentials (TEP) for NOR showed a rich response, while MCS patients showed only a few components, and UWS patients had almost no significant components. The values of PCMI connectivity metrics demonstrated its usefulness for measuring cortical connectivity evoked by TMS. From NOR to MCS to UWS, the number and strength of TEC decreased. Quantitative analysis revealed significant differences in the strength and number of TEC in the entire brain, local regions and inter-regions among different consciousness states. 3) A decision tree with feature selection by mutual information performed the best (balanced accuracy: 87.0% and accuracy: 83.5%). This model could accurately identify NOR (100.0%), but had lower identification accuracy for UWS (86.5%) and MCS (74.1%). Significance: The application of PCMI in measuring TMS-evoked connectivity provides a robust metric that enhances our ability to differentiate between various states of consciousness in DOC patients. This approach not only aids in clinical diagnosis but also contributes to the broader understanding of cortical connectivity and consciousness. .

Two approaches are presented here to analyze the absorption resonances between carbynes and cyclo[n]carbons, namely the analytical tight-binding model to calculate the optical selection rules of cumulenic atomic rings and chains and theab initiotime-dependent density functional theory for the optical investigation of polyynic carbon ring and chains. The optical absorption spectra of the carbon ring match that of the finite chain when their eigen energies align following theNring= 2Nchain+ 2 rule, which states that the number of atoms in an atomic ringNringis twice the number of atoms on a finite chainNchainwith two additional atoms. Two representative atomic chains are chosen for our numerical calculations, specifically carbynes withN= 7 and 8 carbon atoms as optical resonance spectra match to a recently synthesized carbon ring called cyclo$[18]$carbon. Despite the mismatch in resonance peaks, molecular orbital transitions of both carbynesN= 7 and 8 and cyclo[n]carbons reveal a wave function symmetry change from inversion to reflection and vice versa for allowed molecular orbital transitions, which results in electron density redistribution along the polyynic carbyne axis or the cyclo[n]carbons circumference. Our investigation of the correlation of optical absorption peaks between carbynes and cyclo[n]carbons is a step towards enhancing the reliability of allotrope identification in advanced molecular device spectroscopy. Moreover, this work could facilitate the non-invasive, rapid and crucial assessment of these sensitive 1D allotropes by providing accurate descriptions of their electronic and optical properties, particularly in controlled synthesis environments.

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of the row-like needling along the spleen meridian combined with autonomous functional exercise in treatment of postpartum diastasis recti abdominis. METHODS: A total of 72 patients with postpartum diastasis recti abdominis were randomly divided into an observation group (36 cases, 3 cases excluded) and a control group (36 cases, 3 cases dropped out). In the control group, the autonomous functional exercise was performed on the rectus abdominis. In the observation group, on the basis of the treatment as the control group, the row-like needling along the spleen meridian was delivered. Along the distribution of the spleen meridian on the abdomen, besides Daheng (SP 15), acupuncture was operated at the sites 3 cm and 6 cm directly above and below Daheng (SP 15) bilaterally. Five points on each side were stimulated along the meridian. Acupuncture was delivered once every two days, 3 interventions a week. One course of treatment, composed of 10 treatments, was required. Before treatment and after 5 and 10 treatments, the inter-rectus distance (IRD) and the score of the medical outcomes study 36-item short form health survey (SF-36) were observed in the two groups, respectively. RESULTS: After 5 and 10 treatments, the IRD at the sites 3 cm above the umbilicus, in the center of the umbilicus and below the umbilicus was reduced when compared with that before treatment in the observation group, respectively (P<0.01); and the IRD at the site 3 cm above the umbilicus was decreased in comparison with that before treatment in the control group (P<0.05). After treated for 5 times, compared with the control group, the IRD at the site 3 cm below the umbilicus was reduced in the observation group (P<0.05); and after treated for 10 times, compared with the control group, the IRD at the sites 3 cm above the umbilicus, in the center of the umbilicus and below the umbilicus was reduced in the observation group (P<0.01). After the completion of 5 and 10 treatments, the scores of physical functioning (PF), role-physical (RP), role-emotional (RE) and health change (HC), as well as the total score of SF-36 were all higher than those before treatment in the observation group (P<0.01); while in the control group, the scores of PF, RP and RE, as well as the total score of SF-36 were increased in comparison with those before treatment (P<0.01). After 5 treatments, the scores of general health (GH) and HC in the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.05, P<0.01); and after 10 treatments, the score of PF, GH and HC, as well as the total score of SF-36 in the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: On the basis of autonomous functional exercise, the row-like needling along the spleen meridian can promote the recovery of postpartum diastasis recti abdominis and improve the quality of life of the patients.

Although trait and state rumination play a central role in the exacerbation of negative affect, evidence suggests that they are weakly correlated and exert distinct influences on emotional reactivity to stressors. Whether trait and state rumination share a common or distinct neural substrate remains unclear. In this study, we utilized functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) combined with connectome-based predictive modeling (CPM) to identify neural fingerprints associated with trait and state rumination. CPM identified distinctive functional connectivity (FC) profiles that contribute to the prediction of trait rumination, primarily involving FC within the default mode network (DMN) and the dorsal attention network (DAN) as well as FC between the DMN, control network (CN), DAN, and salience network (SN). Conversely, state rumination was predominantly associated with FC between the DMN and CN. Furthermore, the predictive features of trait rumination can be robustly generalized to predict state rumination, and vice versa. In conclusion, this study illuminates the importance of both DMN and non-DMN systems in the emergence and persistence of rumination. While trait rumination was associated with stronger and broader FC than state rumination, the generalizability of the predictive features underscores the presence of shared neural mechanisms between the two forms of rumination. These identified connectivity fingerprints may hold promise as targets for innovative therapeutic interventions aimed at mitigating rumination-related negative affect.

The current study proposes an optimized ethanolic extraction for the efficient recovery of high-value components from Pakistani olives (cv. Arbequina) using response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural networking (ANN). The extracts were investigated for antioxidant properties and GC-MS metabolite profiling.  Four factors such as time, temperature, solvent concentration, and solute weight (g/100 mL) were utilized as independent variables for determining the response (% yield).  The results obtained under optimum extraction conditions such as duration (25 min), temperature (45°C), solvent concentration (65%; ethanol: water v/v), and solute (7.50 g) indicated an extract yield of 40.96% from Arbiquina olives. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) for the RSM model showed significant p-values and a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.9960, confirming model reliability.  The multilayer perceptron architecture was used in ANN, and the results were fairly consistent with the experimental findings. Arbequina olive extract (AOE) demonstrated significant antioxidant ability in terms of total phenolics, total flavonoid concentration, and DPPH radical scavenging. The GC-MS analysis of AOE revealed the presence of several bioactives, including oleic acid (36.22%), hydroxytyrosol (3.95%), tyrosol (3.32%), ß-sitosterol (2.10%), squalene (1.10%), sinapic acid (0.67%), α-tocopherol (0.66%), vanillic acid (0.56%), 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol (0.31%), and quercetin.

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd) is widely regarded as a versatile pseudo-cereal native to the Andes Mountains in South America. It has gained global recognition as a superfood due to its rich nutritional profile. While quinoa grains are well-known, there is an undiscovered potential in quinoa greens, such as sprouts, leaves, and microgreens. These verdant parts of quinoa are rich in a diverse array of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds, including proteins, amino acids, bioactive proteins, peptides, polyphenols, and flavonoids. They have powerful antioxidant properties, combat cancer, and help prevent diabetes. Quinoa greens offer comparable or even superior benefits when compared to other sprouts and leafy greens, yet they have not gained widespread recognition. Limited research exists on the nutritional composition and biological activities of quinoa greens, underscoring the necessity for thorough systematic reviews in this field. This review paper aims to highlight the nutritional value, bioactivity, and health potential of quinoa greens, as well as explore their possibilities within the food sector. The goal is to generate interest within the research community and promote further exploration and wider utilization of quinoa greens in diets. This focus may lead to new opportunities for enhancing health and well-being through innovative dietary approaches.

OBJECTIVE: This study explored the impact of one session of low-pressure leg blood flow restriction (BFR) during treadmill walking on dual-task performance in older adults using the neurovisceral integration model framework. METHODS: Twenty-seven older adults participated in 20-min treadmill sessions, either with BFR (100 mmHg cuff pressure on both thighs) or without it (NBFR). Dual-task performance, measured through light-pod tapping while standing on foam, and heart rate variability during treadmill walking were compared. RESULTS: Following BFR treadmill walking, the reaction time (p = 0.002) and sway area (p = 0.012) of the posture dual-task were significantly reduced. Participants exhibited a lower mean heart rate (p < 0.001) and higher heart rate variability (p = 0.038) during BFR treadmill walking. Notably, BFR also led to band-specific reductions in regional brain activities (theta, alpha, and beta bands, p < 0.05). The topology of the EEG network in the theta and alpha bands became more star-like in the post-test after BFR treadmill walking (p < 0.005). CONCLUSION: BFR treadmill walking improves dual-task performance in older adults via vagally-mediated network integration with superior neural economy. This approach has the potential to prevent age-related falls by promoting cognitive reserves.

BACKGROUND: Although white matter hyperintensity (WMH) is closely associated with cognitive decline, the precise neurobiological mechanisms underlying this relationship are not fully elucidated. Connectome studies have identified a primary-to-transmodal gradient in functional brain networks that support the spectrum from sensation to cognition. However, whether connectome gradient structure is altered as WMH progresses and how this alteration is associated with WMH-related cognitive decline remain unknown. METHODS: A total of 758 WMH individuals completed cognitive assessment and resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI). The functional connectome gradient was reconstructed based on rs-fMRI by using a gradient decomposition framework. Interrelations among the spatial distribution of WMH, functional gradient measures, and specific cognitive domains were explored. RESULTS: As the WMH volume increased, the executive function (r = -0.135, p = 0.001) and information-processing speed (r = -0.224, p = 0.001) became poorer, the gradient range (r = -0.099, p = 0.006), and variance (r = -0.121, p < 0.001) of the primary-to-transmodal gradient reduced. A narrower gradient range (r = 0.131, p = 0.001) and a smaller gradient variance (r = 0.136, p = 0.001) corresponded to a poorer executive function. In particular, the relationship between the frontal/occipital WMH and executive function was partly mediated by gradient range/variance of the primary-to-transmodal gradient. CONCLUSIONS: These findings indicated that WMH volume, the primary-to-transmodal gradient, and cognition were interrelated. The detrimental effect of the frontal/occipital WMH on executive function was partly mediated by the decreased differentiation of the connectivity pattern between the primary and transmodal areas.

The experiment was conducted to evaluate the supplementary effects of gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) and sodium butyrate (SB) when a graded level of fish meal (FM) was replaced with soy protein concentrate (SPC) in diets for juvenile red seabream (Pagrus major). A control diet was designed to contain 60% FM (F60). Two other diets were formulated by reducing FM levels to 40% and 20% with SPC (F40 and F20). Six more diets were formulated by adding 0.02% GABA or 0.2% SB to each F60, F40 and F20 diets (F60G, F60S, F40G, F40S, F20G and F20S). Each diet was randomly assigned to a triplicate group of fish (5.52 g/fish) and provided for eight weeks. Final body weight, weight gain and specific growth rate of fish fed F60G, F60S, F40G and F40S diets were comparable and significantly higher (p < 0.05) than other groups. The growth of fish fed SB-containing diets was significantly increased (p < 0.05) compared to fish fed the respective control diets. The feed efficiency and protein efficiency ratios were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in the fish fed all diets containing 60% and 40% FM compared to F20 and F20G groups. The F40S diet resulted in the highest feed utilization values. The F20S group exhibited significantly higher (p < 0.05) feed utilization than the F20 and F20G groups. Serum lysozyme activity was significantly higher (p < 0.05) in fish fed the GABA- and SB-containing diets compared to the F20 group. The F60S group exhibited the highest lysozyme activity which was significantly higher (p < 0.05) than in the F20 and F40 groups. Therefore, the growth performance, feed utilization and innate immunity of red seabream can be enhanced by dietary supplementation with GABA or SB in low-FM diets containing SPC. The FM level in the juvenile red seabream diet can be reduced to 40% with SPC and GABA or SB while maintaining performance better than a diet containing 60% FM.

Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TKS) is a model plant and a potential rubber-producing crop for the study of natural rubber (NR) biosynthesis. The precise analysis of the NR biosynthesis mechanism is an important theoretical basis for improving rubber yield. The small rubber particle protein (SRPP) and rubber elongation factor (REF) are located in the membrane of rubber particles and play crucial roles in rubber biosynthesis. However, the specific functions of the SRPP/REF gene family in the rubber biosynthesis mechanism have not been fully resolved. In this study, we performed a genome-wide identification of the 10 TkSRPP and 2 TkREF genes' family members of Russian dandelion and a comprehensive investigation on the evolution of the ethylene/methyl jasmonate-induced expression of the SRPP/REF gene family in TKS. Based on phylogenetic analysis, 12 TkSRPP/REFs proteins were divided into five subclades. Our study revealed one functional domain and 10 motifs in these proteins. The SRPP/REF protein sequences all contain typical REF structural domains and belong to the same superfamily. Members of this family are most closely related to the orthologous species T. mongolicum and share the same distribution pattern of SRPP/REF genes in T. mongolicum and L. sativa, both of which belong to the family Asteraceae. Collinearity analysis showed that segmental duplication events played a key role in the expansion of the TkSRPP/REFs gene family. The expression levels of most TkSRPP/REF members were significantly increased in different tissues of T. kok-saghyz after induction with ethylene and methyl jasmonate. These results will provide a theoretical basis for the selection of candidate genes for the molecular breeding of T. kok-saghyz and the precise resolution of the mechanism of natural rubber production.

Advancements in medicine and pharmacology have led to the development of systems that deliver biologically active molecules inside cells, increasing drug concentrations at target sites. This improves effectiveness and duration of action and reduces side effects on healthy tissues. Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) show promise in this area. While traditional medicinal chemistry methods have been used to develop CPPs, machine learning techniques can speed up and reduce costs in the search for new peptides. A predictive algorithm based on machine learning models was created to identify novel CPP sequences using molecular descriptors using a combination of algorithms like k-nearest neighbors, gradient boosting, and random forest. Some potential CPPs were found and tested for cytotoxicity and penetrating ability. A new low-toxicity CPP was discovered from the Rhopilema esculentum venom proteome through this study.

Up to 75% of individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) may have residual symptoms such as amotivation or anhedonia, which prevent full functional recovery and are associated with relapse. Globally and in the Gulf region, primary care physicians (PCPs) have an important role in alleviating stigma and in identifying and monitoring the residual symptoms of depression, as PCPs are the preliminary interface between patients and specialists in the collaborative care model. Therefore, mental healthcare upskilling programmes for PCPs are needed, as are basic instruments to evaluate residual symptoms swiftly and accurately in primary care. Currently, few if any electronic enablers have been designed to specifically monitor residual symptoms in patients with MDD. The objectives of this review are to highlight how accurate evaluation of residual symptoms with an easy-to-use electronic enabler in primary care may improve functional recovery and overall mental health outcomes, and how such an enabler may guide pharmacotherapy selection and positively impact the patient journey. Here, we show the potential advantages of electronic enablers in primary care, which include the possibility for a deeper "dive" into the patient journey and facilitation of treatment optimisation. At the policy and practice levels, electronic enablers endorsed by government agencies and local psychiatric associations may receive greater PCP attention and backing, improve patient involvement in shared clinical decision-making, and help to reduce the general stigma around mental health disorders. In the Gulf region, an easy-to-use electronic enabler in primary care, incorporating aspects of the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale to monitor amotivation, and aspects of the Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale to monitor anhedonia, could markedly improve the patient journey from residual symptoms through to full functional recovery in individuals with MDD.

Objective: Acute unilateral vestibulopathy (AUVP) is the second leading cause of peripheral vestibular vertigo. Full recovery of AUVP is related to sufficient central vestibular compensation. It has been confirmed that the vestibular nucleus and vestibular cortex are involved in the process of vestibular compensatory in AUVP patients. However, few studies have focused on the functional compensation of thalamus in patients with AUVP. This study aimed to explore the alterations of resting-state functional connectivity (FC) focused on thalamus using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in AUVP patients. Methods: Data of 3D-T1 and resting-state fMRI were collected from 40 AUVP patients and 35 healthy controls (HC). Seeds-based (bilateral thalamus) FC was analyzed to investigate the changes in FC between the two groups. Furthermore, we evaluated the associations between altered thalamus FC and clinical features in AUVP patients using Pearson's partial correlation. Results: Compared with HC, AUVP patients showed decreased FC between bilateral thalamus and left insula. We also observed decreased FC between right thalamus and left supramarginal gyrus. Additionally, we found increased FC between left thalamus and right postcentral gyrus (PCG), as well as increased FC between right thalamus and regions of bilateral PCG, right middle frontal gyrus and right middle occipital gyrus in AUVP patients. Furthermore, the FC between left thalamus and left insula was negatively correlated with values of canal paresis in patients with AUVP (p = 0.010, r = -0.434). Conclusion: Our results provided first evidence for the decreased thalamo-vestibular cortex pathway, as well as increased thalamo-somatosensory and thalamo-visual cortex pathway in AUVP patients. These findings help us better understand the underlying mechanisms of central dynamic compensatory following an acute unilateral peripheral vestibular damage.

Few studies have focused sufficiently on the intricate link between functional health and depression among older people aged 60 and above in India. Therefore, the current study investigates the association between functional health and depression among older Indian adults through the mediating role of social disengagement and loneliness and the moderating role of living arrangements using recent data from the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI: 2017-2018). Composite International Diagnostic Interview-Short Form (CIDI-SF) for depression, the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) for functional health, and the indoor/outdoor activities, visits, and religious events for social disengagement were used. The feelings of loneliness and living arrangements were measured using single-item questions and surveys/interviews of household members. Bivariate analysis, logistic regression, and a Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Model were adopted. The results show that older persons with functional health had 1.85 times higher odds of depression; similarly, those not engaging in social activities and experiencing loneliness were more likely to feel depressed. Living with someone was negatively linked to depression. A significant moderation by living arrangements in the functional health-depression relationship was also observed. The results also indicate significant mediating roles of social disengagement and loneliness, with 22.0% and 3.08% mediation effects, respectively. Therefore, this study recommends the provision of housing and social interaction among older people.
