The major lipids and antioxidant activities of Asterias rolleston gonad lipids were evaluated systematically. Major lipids of A. Rolleston gonad lipids were triacylglycerols (TAGs) and phospholipids (PLs). Total lipids were composed of 15.62% of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and 40.81% of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). The most abundant PUFA were C20:5n-3 (EPA) (6.28%) and C22:6n-3 (DHA) (5.80%). Predominantly composed of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), polar lipids were rich in PUFAs and could contain up to 34.59% EPA and DHA, and PE and PI (phosphatidylinositol) were also found to be the main carriers of EPA and ARA (arachidonic acid) in polar lipids. The MUFA and PUFA of Sn-2 in TAG are 39.72% and 30.37%, respectively. A total of 64 TAG species were identified, with Eo-P-M, Eo-Eo-M, and M-M-Eo being the main TAGs components. Moreover, A. rollestoni gonad lipids exhibited potent radical scavenging activities and reducing power in a dose-dependent manner.

Fresh sea urchin (Paracentrotus lividus) gonads are a delicacy with short seasonal availability, very often heterogeneous in size and intrinsic characteristics. This study aimed to valorise this resource through the preparation of canned products (with/without Porphyra spp.) and evaluate their physicochemical and sensory quality (3-12 months). Canning contributed to a decrease in protein, K and most carotenoids contents; and a concentration of lipids, ash, Na and Se levels. A simulated 12-month ageing led to decrease the protein and ß-carotene contents; and the Na and lutein levels concentration. The macroalgae addition resulted in an orange, darker and less soft product, with higher carbohydrates, Na, Se and carotenoids contents. A 25 g-dose contributes to significant daily intakes of protein (8-9%), EPA+DHA (47-53%), I (35-62%) and Se (30-47%). The products were commercially stable/sterile and had good sensory acceptance. Overall, canning constitutes a strategy to provide a nutritionally balanced product available all year-round.

This study aimed to characterize Echinus esculentus gonads in terms of biometric parameters and nutritional quality at two sites in Mid-Norway at four different seasons. The chemical contamination of the gonads was also investigated for the first time through the evaluation of 28 macro- and trace elements and 32 components from the emerging and persistent group per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). The spawning period was determined in summer, given that the gonad index was the lowest in this season for both sites. Protein concentrations were constant (8%-10%). However, lipid contents (1%-3%) were noticed to be higher in gonads during autumn and winter. The gonads had high contents of PUFA mainly EPA and DHA, followed by SFA, and MUFA year around for both locations. E. esculentus gonads constitute a good source of fatty acids, macro, and trace elements. This species could also be a bioindicator for the monitoring of marine environments.

This paper focuses on determining the concentrations of phenol derivatives in the gonads of seabirds and examining the potential factors (age, sex and region) affecting the degree of their bioaccumulation. The study involved assays of bisphenol A (BPA), 4-tert-octylphenol (4-t-OP) and 4-nonylphenol (4-NP) in the gonads of long-tailed ducks taken as bycatch from the Southern Baltic region in 2015-2016. Among phenol derivatives, 4-NP was found to reach the highest concentrations in the gonads of long-tailed ducks, and its concentrations were in the range of <0.1-717.5 ng g-1 dw. The concentrations of BPA and 4-t-OP were similar and amounted to <0.4-181.6 ng g-1 dw and <0.1-192.4 ng g-1 dw respectively. The concentration levels of phenol derivatives in the birds' gonads were similar to the levels which had been observed to have negative endocrine effects in other authors studies. This shows that the studied xenoestrogens can interfere with the reproduction and development of birds. Moreover, adult long-tailed ducks had higher concentrations of phenol derivatives compared to immature ones, possibly resulting from long-term bioaccumulation, as well as from diverse pollution in their respective habitats. Particularly in the case of 4-NP, the median concentrations in gonads of adult birds were 2-fold higher than in immature ones. In turn, among adult long-tailed ducks, phenol derivatives were characterized by higher concentrations in males than in females, with almost 3 times and approx. 3.5 times higher median concentrations of BPA and 4-t-OP, respectively. Lower concentrations of phenol derivatives in female gonads may result from the additional elimination of pollutants from their bodies through the transfer of pollutants from mother to egg. The results show the need for further research on phenol derivatives in the gonads of birds, focusing on their impact on the reproductive system and early development.

Paracentrotus lividus is a sea urchin widely distributed throughout Mediterranean basin and Atlantic coast, highly appreciated for its gonads. It is broadly distributed along the Portuguese coast and its exploitation has potential to grow. Nevertheless, fluctuations on nutritional composition and sensory traits of P. lividus according to each habitat and seasonality are still little understood. Stable isotopes analysis has been recognised as a powerful tool for exploring environmental-ecological-biological processes in aquatic systems. It is also useful to give indications on how to improve available diets for the aquaculture of this species, contributing to a sustainable rearing. Herein, such technique was used to assess temporal and spatial differences in isotopic composition of P. lividus' gonads and intestines and to evaluate its application as a management tool for the identification of the most suitable locations and periods of the year to collect organisms with high quality gonads. Sampling campaigns were carried out between 2019 and 2020 in five rocky shores along the Portuguese coast (Viana do Castelo, Figueira da Foz, Peniche, Sines and Guia). Three rock pools were selected in each shore, and five specimens were collected per pool. The gonadosomatic index (GSI, %) was calculated and carbon and nitrogen elemental and isotopic composition were determined in gonads and intestine using isotope ratio mass spectrometry. Significant spatial and temporal fluctuations were registered among urchins collected along Portuguese coast. Such variations may be associated with latitudinal gradients along the coast and variations of environmental and ecological conditions within each area, especially those affecting algal biomass, on which urchins primarily feed. More research must be pursued to maximise the use of stable isotopes analysis as a management tool for supporting sustainable exploitation of natural stocks or even to contribute to nutritional studies with new diets for sea urchin production that consider the feeding of these animals in the wild.

Studying the noncovalent interactions between proteins and polysaccharides is quite important mainly due to the wide number of applications such as developing pH-responsive complexes. Scallop Patinopecten yessoensis male gonad hydrolysatessodium alginate (SMGHs-SA) was investigated as noncovalent complexes at pH from 1 to 10. The critical pH values pHC (around 6) and pHφ (around 4) were independent of the SMGHs-SA ratio, indicating the formation of soluble and insoluble complexes. The pH response of SMGHs-SA complexes was evaluated by investigating the rheological behavior, moisture distribution, functional group change and microstructure. Compared to the co-soluble and soluble complexes phases, the SMGHs-SA complexes had a higher storage modulus and viscosity as well as a lower relaxation time (T23) in the insoluble complexes phase (pHφ>3). Additionally, the amide I band and COO- stretching vibration peaks were redshifted and the amide A band vibration peaks were blueshifted by acidification. Electrostatic interactions and intermolecular/intramolecular hydrogen bonding led to SMGHs-SA agglomeration at pH 3, forming a uniform and dense gel network structure with strong gel strength and water-retention capacity. This study provides a theoretical and methodological basis for the design of novel pH-responsive complexes by studying SMGHs-SA complex coacervation.

Many environmental monitoring works have been carried out using biomarkers as a tool to identify the effects of oil contamination on marine organisms; however, only a few studies have used sea urchin gonadal tissue for this purpose. Within this context, the present work aimed to understand the impact of an oil spill, proposing the use of sea urchin gonadal tissue as a biomarker for environmental contamination by trace metals in the species Paracentrotus lividus. Biometric analysis, quantification analyses of the elements Cd, Pb, Ni, Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu, as well as histopathological evaluations were performed in gonads of P. lividus collected from an area affected by hydrocarbons, named as impacted shore (IS) and an area not affected, named reference shore (RS). The results showed that carapace diameter (DC), total wet weight (WW), and Cd concentrations in the gonads were significantly influenced by the interaction between the rocky shores of origin, the months of sampling, and by the sex of the individuals. Moreover, from July until September, the levels of Zn and Cd were significantly lower in male than in female gonads. In July (the month of the oil spill), the indexes of histopathological alterations (IHPA) of membrane dilation were significantly higher in individuals from the IS, compared to the individuals from the RS. In addition, there were significant correlations between biometric variables (wet weight, diameter of carapace, gonadal weight, and gonadosomatic index) and the elements Cd, Cu, Ni, and Mn concentrations. Lastly, a delay in the gametogenic cycle of the sea urchins from IS was also observed. Taken together, these findings suggest that direct exposure to trace metals induces histopathological lesions in P. lividus' gonads and affects its reproductive cycle.

OBJECTIVE: Prolonged exposure to heavy metals, such as Pb, Hg, or Cu, has multiple adverse effects on marine organisms at the cellular, physiological, and population levels. Bivalves' histopathology provides a sensitive biomarker of pollutant-induced stress and environmental health. Gonad tissue deterioration is of particular concern, as it affects the reproductive success of a species. This study aimed to examine the histopathological alterations caused by metal exposure in the gonad of the white clam Dosinia ponderosa. METHODS: Organisms were sampled from three locations in the Gulf of California: Santa Rosalia (SR), a former Cu mining town; San Lucas beach (SL), a nearby site influenced by pollution; and Escondida beach (EB), which served as a control site. Histological and histochemical stains were used, and the prevalence and intensity level of each alteration were calculated. RESULT: The prevalence of alterations was higher in the ovaries of SR clams (92% compared to 60% in SL clams and 32.7% in EB clams), during spawning (91.4% compared to 20% in SL clams and 4.7% in EB clams), and in winter (93.5% compared to 30% in SL clams and 17.4% in EB clams). CONCLUSION: These findings suggest a significant deterioration in the gonads of white clams from SR, probably linked to the chronic exposure to high concentrations of Cu and possibly other heavy metals; hence, the reproductive health of the clams is likely compromised.

Coastal areas are affected by multiple stressors like climate change and endocrine disruptors (EDCs). In the laboratory, we investigated the combined effects of increased temperature and EDCs (drospirenone and mercury) on the fitness and gonads' maturation dynamics of the marine gastropod Nucella lapillus for 21 days. Survival was negatively affected by all the stressors alone, while, in combination, a synergistic negative effect was observed. Both chemicals, as single factors, did not cause any effect on the maturation stage of ovaries and testis. However, in the presence of a higher temperature, it was clear a delay in the maturation stage of the ovaries, but not in the testis, suggesting a higher negative impact of the stressors in females than in males. In summary, drospirenone caused a low negative impact in aquatic species, like gastropods, but in combination with other EDCs and/or increased temperature can be a matter of concern.

BACKGROUND: The maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis is crucial for the establishment of reproductive function. In female mice, neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) activity appears to be key for the first postnatal activation of the neural network promoting the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), i.e. minipuberty. However, in males, the profile of minipuberty as well as the role of nNOS-expressing neurons remain unexplored. METHODS: nNOS-deficient and wild-type mice were studied during postnatal development. The expression of androgen (AR) and estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) as well as nNOS phosphorylation were evaluated by immunohistochemistry in nNOS neurons in the median preoptic nucleus (MePO), where most GnRH neuronal cell bodies reside, and the hormonal profile of nNOS-deficient male mice was assessed using previously established radioimmunoassay and ELISA methods. Gonadectomy and pharmacological manipulation of ERα were used to elucidate the mechanism of minipubertal nNOS activation and the maturation of the HPG axis. RESULTS: In male mice, minipubertal FSH release occurred at P23, preceding the LH surge at P30, when balanopreputial separation occurs. Progesterone and testosterone remained low during minipuberty, increasing around puberty, whereas estrogen levels were high throughout postnatal development. nNOS neurons showed a sharp increase in Ser1412 phosphorylation of nNOS at P23, a phenomenon that occurred even in the absence of the gonads. In male mice, nNOS neurons did not appear to express AR, but abundantly expressed ERα throughout postnatal development. Selective pharmacological blockade of ERα during the infantile period blunted Ser1412 phosphorylation of nNOS at P23. CONCLUSIONS: Our results show that the timing of minipuberty differs in male mice when compared to females, but as in the latter, nNOS activity in the preoptic region plays a role in this process. Additionally, akin to male non-human primates, the profile of minipuberty in male mice is shaped by sex-independent mechanisms, and possibly involves extragonadal estrogen sources.

The involvement of hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions in a mixture of scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) male gonad hydrolysates (SMGHs) and guar gum (GG) or locust-bean gum (LBG) was investigated using guanidine hydrochloride (GuHCl) and urea treatments in this study. The addition of GG and LBG (5.56 mg/mL) increased the viscosity of SMGHs at 0.1 s-1 by almost 2.5-fold and 1.7-fold, respectively, reaching 254.8 and 177.0 Pa·s. After treatment with GuHCl or urea, the mixed gels (SMGHs/GG and SMGHs/LBG) became relatively transparent and more fluid, as the viscosity significantly reduced. Moreover, changes of moisture distribution and conformational characteristics suggested that hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions were the main intermolecular forces in the mixed gels of SMGHs and GG or LBG. Furthermore, the SMGHs/GG and SMGHs/LBG mixtures yielded strong gels with viscous network structures, indicating that these materials can be used as thickening agents in food systems.

Very long-chain (> C24) polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFA) play an important role in the development of nervous system, retinal function and reproductive processes in vertebrates. Their presence in very small amounts in specific lipid classes, the lack of reference standards and their late elution in chromatographic analyses render their identification and, most important, their quantification, still a challenge. Consequently, a sensitive and feasible analytical methodology is needed. In this work, we have studied the effect of chain length, as well as the number and position of unsaturations (or double bonds) on the response of GC-APCI-(Q)TOF MS, to establish an analytical method for VLC-PUFA quantification. The developed methodology allows the quantification of these compounds down to 2.5 × 10-3 pmol/mg lipid. The reduction of VLC-PUFA levels in lipid fractions of the organs from the herein sampled farmed fish suggesting a yet undetected effect on these compounds of high vegetable oil aquafeed formulations, that currently dominate the market.

The complex coacervation between scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) female gonad protein isolates (SFGPIs) and sodium alginate (SA) was determined by the turbidimetric method. The impact of pH, total biopolymer concentration, biopolymer blend ratio, and various salt ionic on the mechanisms governing the complex coacervation of SFGPIs-SA complexes were also investigated. For the SFGPIs:SA ratio of 2:1 without adding NaCl, insoluble and soluble complexes were observed at pH 5.8 (pHφ1 ) and pH 8.2 (pHc ) with the optimum biopolymer interactions appearing at pH 2.6 (pHopt ). The maximum turbidity value increased with the increment of the total biopolymer concentration from 0.37 to 1.83 until attaining the critical value (0.75%). As the blend ratios rose from 1:3 to 12:1, the critical pH values (pHc , pHφ1 , and pHopt ) moved to higher pH. Furthermore, the addition of NaCl led to a remarkable decrease in turbidity over the whole pH region in SFGPIs-SA complexes. Moreover, monovalent ions (Na+ and K+ ) had the same effect on the formation of the SFGPIs-SA complex, whereas the divalent cations (Mg2+ and Ca2+ ) lessened the complex formation in comparison with the monovalent ions. This study offers a methodological and theoretical basis for the design of complex SFGPIs-SA systems by understanding the complex coacervation under different conditions. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: In recent years, several protein-polysaccharides complexes have been widely applied in food and biological systems. Scallop (Patinopecten yessoensis) female gonads are deemed as good marine sources for developing protein matrices on account of their high protein content and nutrients. In our study, the effects of different conditions on the mechanisms governing the complex coacervation of SFGPI-SA mixtures were investigated, and the instability of the system could be overcome by understanding the conditions for SFGPIs/SA complex formation, which have a feasible role in developing marine source-protein as a functional food base such as kamaboko gels, can, sausage, fat substitutes, and delivery vehicles for bioactive compounds.

We have previously reported that filtered air (FA) intervention reduces inflammation and hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis activation after fine particulate matter (PM2.5 exposure). Whether FA also modulates the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) and hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axes in rats after PM2.5 exposure is still unknown. Adult Sprague-Dawley rats were exposed to PM2.5 by using a "real-world" PM2.5 exposure system, and the FA intervention was conducted by renewing for 15 days. PM2.5 inhalation decreased thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and thyroxine (T4) levels in both male and female rats, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) level in male rats. FA intervention attenuated the reduction in TRH and TSH levels in male rats and reduction in T4 level in female rats. PM2.5 inhalation also reduced testosterone (T) level in male rats, and estradiol (E2) and progesterone (PROG) levels in female rats, and these changes were attenuated after FA intervention. The FA intervention attenuated the decreases in CD8 T cells and T cells induced by PM2.5 inhalation in female rats only by flow cytometry analysis. In blood, FA interventions ameliorated IL-6 and IL-1ß mRNA levels in both male and female rats after PM2.5 exposure. FA intervention restored the IL-4 and IL-10 levels in female rats after PM2.5 exposure. Moreover, FA intervention ameliorated the inflammatory responses induced by PM2.5 inhalation in the thyroid and gonads in both male and female rats. These data indicate that FA intervention exerted an effect on modulating the hormonal balance of the HPT and HPG axes, and this may be related to a reduction in the inflammatory responses in the thyroid and gonads of PM2.5-treated rats, respectively.

Accumulation of Al, As, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S, Se, Si, Sr, and Zn was analyzed in gills, liver, gonads, and muscle of European chub (Squalius cephalus), Cactus roach (Rutilus virgo), and pikeperch (Sander lucioperca) from Zlatar reservoir (Serbia) using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). The highest concentrations of Cu in liver as well as Ba, Ca, Fe, Mn, Na, P, and Sr in gills were detected in all fish species, while the lowest concentrations of Cu, Fe, Mn, Na, and Zn were detected in muscle. Pikeperch had significantly lower concentrations of Ba in all tissues compared to the other species, as well as Fe, P, and Sr in muscle, K, Mg, Mn, Sr, and Zn in gills, and Fe in gonads. European chub had significantly higher concentrations of Ca, Cu, and Zn in muscle, Cu in liver, and Cr and Cu in gonads compared to Cactus roach and pikeperch. Cd concentration in one individual of Cactus roach exceeded the maximum allowed concentration. The muscle was exposed to the lowest pressure of metal pollution in all species, and European chub accumulated more metals compared to the other species. There is no significant health risk due to consumption of investigated species. A major hazard index (HI) contributor in all species was Hg. According to the target carcinogenic risk factor (TR), target hazard quotient (THQ), and HI, men are under lower health risk compared to the women. The TR and THQ for As, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, and Zn as well as HI values were higher for European chub compared to the other species. On the other hand, THQ for Hg was highest for pikeperch.

The mechanisms by which sex is determined, and how a sexual phenotype is stably maintained during adulthood, have been the focus of vigorous scientific inquiry. Resources common to the biomedical field (automated staining and imaging platforms) were leveraged to provide the first immunofluorescent data for a reptile species with temperature induced sex reversal. Two four-plex immunofluorescent panels were explored across three sex classes (sex reversed ZZf females, normal ZWf females, and normal ZZm males). One panel was stained for chromatin remodeling genes JARID2 and KDM6B, and methylation marks H3K27me3, and H3K4me3 (Jumonji Panel). The other CaRe panel stained for environmental response genes CIRBP and RelA, and H3K27me3 and H3K4me3. Our study characterized tissue specific expression and cellular localization patterns of these proteins and histone marks, providing new insights to the molecular characteristics of adult gonads in a dragon lizard Pogona vitticeps. The confirmation that mammalian antibodies cross react in P. vitticeps paves the way for experiments that can take advantage of this new immunohistochemical resource to gain a new understanding of the role of these proteins during embryonic development, and most importantly for P. vitticeps, the molecular underpinnings of sex reversal.

There is limited information on fluoride toxicity and risk overview on ecotoxicological risks to aquatic invertebrate populations particularly molluscan taxa. This necessitated the assessment of toxicity responses in the freshwater snail, Bellamya bengalensis exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of sodium fluoride. Under lethal exposures (150, 200, 250, 300, 400 and 450 mg/l), the median lethal concentrations (LC50) were determined to be 422.36, 347.10, 333.33 and 273.24 mg/l for B. bengalensis at 24, 48, 72 and 96 h respectively. The rate of mortality of the snails was increased significantly with elevated concentrations of the toxicant. The magnitude of toxicity i.e., toxicity factor at different time scale was also higher with increased exposure duration. Altered behavioural changes i.e., crawling movement, tentacle movement, clumping tendency, touch reflex and mucous secretion in exposed snail with elevated concentrations and exposure duration. Similarly, oxygen consumption rate of the treated snail also lowered significantly during 72 and 96 h of exposure. Under 30-day chronic exposures (Control-0.00 mg/L; T1-27.324 mg/L; T2-54.648 mg/L), protein concentrations in gonad and hepatopancreas of exposure groups was significantly lowered. Chronic exposures also revealed lowered haemocytes counts in exposure groups. The potential for loss of coordination, respiratory distress and physiological disruption in organisms exposed to environmentally relevant concentrations of fluoride was demonstrated by this study. The estimation and magnitude of toxicity responses are necessary for a more accurate estimation of ecological risks to molluscan taxa and invertebrate populations under acute and chronic fluoride exposures in the wild.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the best-preserved archipelagos in the world. We sampled individuals of six demersal and three pelagic species. The metal concentration of liver and gonad tissues were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Spectrometry. Findings suggest none of the pelagic species showed metallic concentrations that could pose a risk to their health or reproductive capacity. S. violacea and P. clemensi Zn levels were higher in liver than in gonads, indicating that these species could be in their reproduction period. Zn risk toxicity for the study species is negligible. High concentrations of Cd were found in the liver of C. princeps, C. affinis and P. albomaculatus which could cause morphological and physiological alterations. We hypothesize that the high metal concentrations found in the demersal species could come from the volcanism of the islands, since no major sources of anthropogenic metal contamination can be found in the archipelago.

There has been great interest in phospholipids (PLs) from marine by-products due to their long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids with unique health and functional properties. Here, marine PLs from squid viscera and gonads were comprehensively characterized and compared by UPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap/MS-based lipidomics analysis. A total of thirteen phospholipid classes including 1223 molecular species were identified and quantified in both resources. PC, PE and SM were further isolated from the total PLs of squid viscera and gonads, respectively. All isolated squid PL components were first evaluated for anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and cardiovascular effects using in vivo zebrafish models. Our results showed the diversity, content and physiological functions of PLs from squid by-products, which provided a basis for their future application in the nutritional and pharmaceutical industry.

The risk of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon exposure in aquatic organisms is a global concern. In this study, we investigated the toxic effects of different doses of benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) on Cyprinus carpio in microcosms from the following aspects: superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD) activity, malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the gill, liver, and gonad; glutathione s-transferase (GST), aromatic hydroxylase (AHH), and 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) activity in the liver; and altered tissue and cellular structures of the gill, liver,and gonad. SOD and POD activity in the gill, liver, and gonad increased in low-dose BaP groups and significantly decreased with an increase in BaP. MDA content increased continuously with an increase in BaP in the gill, liver, and gonad. The activity of enzymes related to detoxification, specifically GST, AHH, and EROD, gradually increased in the liver with an increase in BaP. Upon exposure to BaP, gill hypertrophy, bulging, necrosis, and cavitation occurred, gonadal cells became larger, with an increase in pyknotic or vacuolar nuclei, bulging and cavitation of organelles, and cytoplasm leakage, and nuclear membrane lysis was observed in the liver. Collectively, BaP exposure changed the SOD and POD activity in the gill, liver, and gonad of carp with increases in MDA content, increased GST, AHH, and EROD activity in liver, and damaged the tissue and cellular structures of the gill, liver, and gonad, revealing the toxic effects of BaP exposure on carp.
