RESUMEN

Rotator cuff disease is one of the most common human tendinopathies and can lead to significant shoulder dysfunction. Despite efforts to improve symptoms in patients with rotator cuff tears and healing rates after rotator cuff repair, high rates of failed healing and persistent shoulder morbidity exist. Increasing interest has been placed on the utilization of orthobiologics-scaffolds, cell-based augmentation, platelet right plasma (platelet-rich plasma), and small molecule-based strategies-in the management of rotator cuff disease and the augmentation of rotator cuff repairs. This is a complex topic that involves novel treatment strategies, including patches/scaffolds, small molecule-based, cellular-based, and tissue-derived augmentation techniques. Ultimately, translational research, with a particular focus on preclinical models, has allowed us to gain some insights into the utility of orthobiologics in the treatment of rotator cuff disease and will continue to be critical to our further understanding of the underlying cellular mechanisms moving forward.

BACKGROUND: Androgenic alopecia (AGA) is the most common type of hair loss in men, and there are many studies on the treatment of hair loss by platelet-rich plasma (PRP). The human scalp contains a huge microbiome, but its role in the process of hair loss remains unclear, and the relationship between PRP and the microbiome needs further study. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of PRP treatment on scalp microbiota composition. METHODS: We performed PRP treatment on 14 patients with AGA, observed their clinical efficacy, and collected scalp swab samples before and after treatment. The scalp microflora of AGA patients before and after treatment was characterized by amplifying the V3-V4 region of the 16 s RNA gene and sequencing for bacterial identification. RESULTS: The results showed that PRP was effective in the treatment of AGA patients, and the hair growth increased significantly. The results of relative abundance analysis of microbiota showed that after treatment, g_Cutibacterium increased and g_Staphylococcus decreased, which played a stable role in scalp microbiota. In addition, g_Lawsonella decreased, indicating that the scalp oil production decreased after treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The findings suggest that PRP may play a role in treating AGA through scalp microbiome rebalancing.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the variations in clinical effectiveness among patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis who underwent intra-articular administration of platelet-rich plasma using single, triple, or quintuple injections. METHODS: One hundred twenty patients with grade I-III knee osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to three groups: PRP1 group, who received a single injection of platelet-rich plasma; PRP3 group, who received three PRP injections one week apart; PRP5 group, who received five PRP injections one week apart. The patients' conditions were evaluated using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index-VA3.1 version (WOMAC-VA3.1) at baseline and 6, 12, 24, and 52 weeks 52 weeks follow up. RESULTS: Out of the total participants, 106 patients (30 males and 76 females) completed the study. The primary outcome measure, WOMAC pain score, registered significant improvements across all groups when compared to pre-treatment levels. However, the application of 3 and 5 injections of platelet-rich plasma was substantially more effective than that of a single injection in reducing knee pain and stiffness, as well as enhancing physical function in patients with knee osteoarthritis. No statistically discernable difference was observed between PRP3 and PRP5 at all follow-up intervals, and there was no discernable difference between 3 and 5 PRP injections either. Mild side effects occurred in all three groups. CONCLUSIONS: The administration of three or five injections of platelet-rich plasma is safe, substantially more effective than single injections, and leads to remarkable clinical improvement by significantly reducing knee pain, improving joint stiffness, and enhancing physical function in patients with grade I-III knee osteoarthritis. Furthermore, no significant difference was observed in the efficacy of three or five injections. Therefore, we recommend using three injections of PRP in the treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis of grade I-III.

BACKGROUND: The development of neuropathic pain (NP) is one of the reasons why the pain is difficult to treat, and microglial activation plays an important role in NP. Recently, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a novel therapeutic method for knee osteoarthritis (KOA). However, it's unclarified whether PRP has analgesic effects on NP induced by KOA and the underlying mechanisms unknown. PURPOSE: To observe the analgesic effects of PRP on NP induced by KOA and explore the potential mechanisms of PRP in alleviating NP. METHODS: KOA was induced in male rats with intra-articular injections of monosodium iodoacetate (MIA) on day 0. The rats received PRP or NS (normal saline) treatment at days 15, 17, and 19 after modeling. The Von Frey and Hargreaves tests were applied to assess the pain-related behaviors at different time points. After euthanizing the rats with deep anesthesia at days 28 and 42, the corresponding tissues were taken for subsequent experiments. The expression of activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3) in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) and ionized-calcium-binding adapter molecule-1(Iba-1) in the spinal dorsal horn (SDH) was detected by immunohistochemical staining. In addition, the knee histological assessment was performed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. RESULTS: The results indicated that injection of MIA induced mechanical allodynia and thermal hyperalgesia, which could be reversed by PRP treatment. PRP downregulated the expression of ATF3 within the DRG and Iba-1 within the SDH. Furthermore, an inhibitory effect on cartilage degeneration was observed in the MIA + PRP group only on day 28. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that PRP intra-articular injection therapy may be a potential therapeutic agent for relieving NP induced by KOA. This effect could be attributed to downregulation of microglial activation and reduction in nerve injury.

Excess free radicals at the wound site can cause an inflammatory response, which is not conducive to wound healing. Hydrogels with antioxidant properties can prevent inflammatory storms by scavenging free radicals from the wound site and inhibiting the release of inflammatory factors. In this study, we prepared the carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)/Molybdenum (IV) Selenide (MoSe2), and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) (CMCS/PVP/MoSe2/PRP) hydrogels for accelerating the repair of wounds. In the hydrogels, the MoSe2 can scavenge various free radicals to reduce oxidative stress at the site of inflammation, endowed the hydrogels with antioxidant properties. Interestingly, growth factors released by PRP assisted the tissue repair by promoting the formation of new capillaries. CMCS as a backbone not only showed good biocompatibility and biodegradability but also played a significant role in maintaining the sustained release of growth factors. In addition, incorporating PVP enhanced the tissue adhesion and mechanical properties. The multifunctional composite antioxidant hydrogels have good swelling properties and biodegradability, which is completely degraded within 28 days. Thus, the antioxidant CMCS/PVP/MoSe2/PRP hydrogels provide a new idea for designing ideal multifunctional wound dressings.

Importance: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been considered a promising treatment for musculoskeletal disorders. The effects of PRP on clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) are controversial. Objective: To compare subjective outcomes and graft maturity in patients undergoing ACLR with and without postoperative intra-articular PRP injection. Design, Setting, and Participants: This surgeon- and investigator-masked randomized clinical trial included patients treated at a national medical center in China who were aged 16 to 45 years and scheduled to undergo ACLR. Participants were enrolled between March 21, 2021, and August 18, 2022, and followed up for 12 months, with the last participant completing follow-up on August 28, 2023. Interventions: Participants were randomized 1:1 to the PRP group (n = 60), which received 3 doses of postoperative intra-articular PRP injection at monthly intervals, or to the control group (n = 60), which did not receive postoperative PRP injection. Both groups had the same follow-up schedule. Main Outcomes and Measures: The primary outcome was the mean score for 4 subscales of the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS4) (range, 0-100, with higher scores indicating better knee function and fewer symptoms) at 12 months postoperatively. Secondary outcomes were patient-reported outcomes, graft maturity (on magnetic resonance imaging), and physical examinations at 3, 6, and 12 months. Results: Among the 120 randomized participants (mean [SD] age, 29.0 [8.0] years; 84 males [70%]), 114 (95%) were available for the primary outcome analysis. The mean KOOS4 scores at 12 months were 78.3 (SD, 12.0; 95% CI, 75.2-81.4) in the PRP group and 76.8 (SD, 11.9; 95% CI, 73.7-79.9) in the control group (adjusted mean between-group difference, 2.0; 95% CI, -2.3 to 6.3; P = .36). Secondary outcomes were not statistically significantly different between the 2 groups except for sports and recreation level and graft maturity at 6 months. Intervention-related adverse events included pain at the injection site and knee swelling after injection. Conclusions and Relevance: In this randomized clinical trial among patients undergoing ACLR, the addition of postoperative intra-articular PRP injection did not result in superior improvement of knee symptoms and function at 12 months compared with no postoperative injection. Further studies are required to determine appropriate indications for PRP in musculoskeletal disorders. Trial Registration: Chinese Clinical Trial Registry Identifier: ChiCTR2000040262.

Tendinopathy, characterized by inflammatory and degenerative changes, presents challenges in sports and medicine. In addressing the limitations of conservative management, this study focuses on developing tendon grafts using extrusion bioprinting with platelet-rich plasma (PRP)-infused hydrogels loaded with tendon cells. The objective is to understand paracrine interactions initiated by bioprinted tendon grafts in either inflamed or non-inflamed host tissues. PRP was utilized to functionalize methacrylate gelatin (GelMA), incorporating tendon cells for graft bioprinting. Bioinformatic analyses of overexpressed proteins, predictive of functional enrichment, revealed insights into PRP graft behavior in both non-inflamed and inflamed environments. PRP grafts activated inflammatory pathways, including Interleukin 17 (IL-17), neuroinflammation, Interleukin 33 (IL-33), and chemokine signaling. Interleukin 1 beta (IL-1b) in the graft environment triggered p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling, nuclear factor kappa light chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kB) canonical pathway, and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) signaling. Biological enrichment attributed to PRP grafts included cell chemotaxis, collagen turnover, cell migration, and angiogenesis. Acellular PRP grafts differed from nude grafts in promoting vessel length, vessel area, and junction density. Angiogenesis in cellular grafts was enhanced with newly synthesized Interleukin 8 (IL-8) in cooperation with IL-1b. In conclusion, paracrine signaling from PRP grafts, mediated by chemokine activities, influences cell migration, inflammation, and angiogenic status in host tissues. Under inflammatory conditions, newly synthesized IL-8 regulates vascularization in collaboration with PRP.

Implant therapy is a common treatment option in dentistry and orthopedics, but its application is often associated with an increased risk of microbial contamination of the implant surfaces that cause bone tissue impairment. This study aims to develop two silver-enriched platelet-rich plasma (PRP) multifunctional scaffolds active at the same time in preventing implant-associated infections and stimulating bone regeneration. Commercial silver lactate (L) and newly synthesized silver deoxycholate:ß-Cyclodextrin (B), were studied in vitro. Initially, the antimicrobial activity of the two silver soluble forms and the PRP enriched with the two silver forms has been studied on microbial planktonic cells. At the same time, the biocompatibility of silver-enriched PRPs has been assessed by an MTT test on human primary osteoblasts (hOBs). Afterwards, an investigation was conducted to evaluate the activity of selected concentrations and forms of silver-enriched PRPs in inhibiting microbial biofilm formation and stimulating hOB differentiation. PRP-L (0.3 µg/mm2) and PRP-B (0.2 µg/mm2) counteract Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Candida albicans planktonic cell growth and biofilm formation, preserving hOB viability without interfering with their differentiation capability. Overall, the results obtained suggest that L- and B-enriched PRPs represent a promising preventive strategy against biofilm-related implant infections and demonstrate a new silver formulation that, together with increasing fibrin binding protecting silver in truncated cone-shaped cyclic oligosaccharides, achieved comparable inhibitory results on prokaryotic cells at a lower concentration.

BACKGROUND Histoplasmosis is typically associated with immunocompromised individuals, but cases in immunocompetent patients are rare. Primary cutaneous histoplasmosis (PCH) is a challenging diagnosis due to its clinical polymorphism and can mimic other infectious and non-infectious diseases. Previous cases of PCH have been reported in immunocompetent patients with underlying medical conditions or trauma history. So far there have been no reports of PCH after platelet-rich plasma (PRP) application due to inadequate hygiene measures in an immunocompetent host. CASE REPORT This case report presents a rare occurrence of PCH following a cosmetic procedure (PRP injection) in an immunocompetent patient. The patient developed nodule-like lesions at the application sites, which progressed to ulceration with purulent discharge. Initially, atypical mycobacterial infection was suspected, and empirical antibiotic therapy was initiated. Complementary tests were performed, ruling out immunosuppression and systemic pathogens. The patient showed complete resolution of the lesions after one month of atypical treatment with trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (TMP/SMX). Pathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of PCH with intracytoplasmic inclusions of Histoplasma sp. CONCLUSIONS This case highlights the importance of considering histoplasmosis as a diagnostic possibility, especially in hyperendemic areas like Venezuela. Direct inoculation of Histoplasma sp. after aesthetic procedures without proper hygiene measures can lead to pathological lesions, even in immunocompetent individuals. TMP/SMX can be considered as an alternative treatment option in the absence of the first-line medication. Further exploration of this treatment approach may benefit patients with similar clinical conditions or when ideal treatment options are unavailable.

INTRODUCTION: Autologous blood products like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Leukocyte and Platelets Rich Fibrin (L-PRF) have been used for many years across many types of skin ulcers. However, the effectiveness of autologous blood products on wound healing is not well established. METHODS: We evaluated the 'second generation' autologous product- Leukocyte and Platelet- Rich Fibrin (L-PRF). Our trial was undertaken on patients suffering from neuropathic leprosy ulcers at the Anandaban hospital which serves the entire country of Nepal. We conducted a 1:1 (n = 130) individually randomised trial of L-PRF (intervention) vs. normal saline dressing (control) to compare rate of healing and time to complete healing. Rate of healing was estimated using blind assessments of ulcer areas based on three different measurement methods. Time to complete healing was measured by the local unblinded clinicians and by blind assessment of ulcer images. RESULTS: The point estimates for both outcomes were favourable to L-PRF but the effect sizes were small. Unadjusted mean differences (intervention vs control) in mean daily healing rates (cm2) were respectively 0.012 (95% confidence interval 0.001 to 0.023, p = 0.027); 0.016 (0.004 to 0.027, p = 0.008) and 0.005 (-0.005 to 0.016, p = 0.313) across the three measurement methods. Time to complete healing at 42 days yielded Hazard Ratios (unadjusted) of 1.3 (0.8 to 2.1, p = 0.300) assessed by unblinded local clinicians and 1.2 (0.7 to 2.0, p = 0.462) on blind assessment. CONCLUSION: Any benefit from L-PRF appears insufficient to justify routine use in care of neuropathic ulcers in leprosy. TRIAL REGISTRATION: ISRCTN14933421. Diabetic wounds remain a global challenge due to disordered wound healing led by inflammation, infection, oxidative stress, and delayed proliferation. Therefore, an ideal wound dressing for diabetic wounds not only needs tissue adhesiveness, injectability, and self-healing properties but also needs a full regulation of the microenvironment. In this work, adhesive wound dressings (HA-DA/PRP) with injectability were fabricated by combining platelet rich plasma (PRP) and dopamine-modified-hyaluronic acid (HA-DA). The engineered wound dressings exhibited tissue adhesiveness, rapid self-healing, and shape adaptability, thereby enhancing stability and adaptability to irregular wounds. The in vitro experiments demonstrated that HA-DA/PRP adhesives significantly promoted fibroblast proliferation and migration, attributed to the loaded PRP. The adhesives showed antibacterial properties against both gram-positive and negative bacteria. Moreover, in vitro experiments confirmed that HA-DA/PRP adhesives effectively mitigated oxidative stress and inflammation. Finally, HA-DA/PRP accelerated the healing of diabetic wounds by inhibiting bacterial growth, promoting granulation tissue regeneration, accelerating neovascularization, facilitating collagen deposition, and modulating inflammation through inducing M1 to M2 polarization, in an in vivo model of infected diabetic wounds. Overall, HA-DA/PRP adhesives with the ability to comprehensively regulate the microenvironment in diabetic wounds may provide a novel approach to expedite the diabetic wounds healing in clinic.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) holds promise as a therapeutic modality for wound healing; however, immediate utilization encounters challenges related to volume, concentration, and consistency. Cryopreservation emerges as a viable solution, preserving PRP's bioactive components and extending its shelf life. This study explores the practicality and efficacy of cryopreserved platelet-rich plasma (cPRP) in wound healing, scrutinizing both cellular mechanisms and clinical implications. Fresh PRP and cPRP post freeze-thaw underwent assessment in macrophage, fibroblast, and endothelial cell cultures. The impact of cPRP on active component release and cell behavior pertinent to wound healing was evaluated. Varied concentrations of cPRP (1%, 5%, 10%) were examined for their influence on cell polarization, migration, and proliferation. The results showed minimal changes in cPRP's IL-1ß levels, a slight decrease in PDGF-BB, and superior effects on macrophage M2 polarization and fibroblast migration, while no statistical significance was observed in endothelial cell angiogenesis and proliferation. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood-derived product that has gained significant attention in the treatment of tendinopathies as one of many treatment modalities in the field of regenerative medicine. Rotator cuff pathologies are the leading cause of shoulder pain. Despite the high success rate with conservative treatment and arthroscopic surgical repair, the search for a nonsurgical treatment has made PRP a trending topic recently. The purpose of this article is to review the recent literature data on the possible role of PRP in different rotator cuff pathologies. The limited data in the literature about isolated tendinopathies without a tear (tendonitis and tendinosis) suggests potential benefit from conservative treatment with PRP. Many studies exist for the treatment of rotator cuff tears solely using PRP or as an augmentation to arthroscopic repair. Despite the large number of randomized clinical trials and meta-analyses about the topic, there is no consensus in favor of routine application of PRP in this patient population. The existing reliable evidence of benefit seems to be restricted to its use in only inflammatory tendinopathies with preserved tendon integrity.

Rotator cuff (RC) injuries include a wide range of pathologic states. Athletes are perhaps the most susceptible to RC injuries ranging from tendinopathy to partial or full-thickness tears, due to functional overload and repetitive movements, causing abstention from sports for long periods. Regenerative medicine keeps giving us multiple choices to fight the disability caused by these pathologies. A literature search was performed, and findings related to the structure-function of rotator cuff units, pathophysiology of injuries, regenerative medicine treatments, and future strategies were outlined. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has a greater number of articles and clinical trials, accompanied by stem cells progenitor, prolotherapy, and new approaches such as microfragmented adipose tissue and exosomes. RC injuries in athletes can cause pain, functional impotence, and the risk of recurrence, and can lead them to stop playing sports. Regenerative medicine offers a range of treatments, but some of them need further studies to underline their actual validity.

BACKGROUND: Although several studies on the potential benefits of protein-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for rotator cuff injuries have been published, the results have been conflicting. Therefore, this study aimed to determine whether PRP is beneficial for the prevention of retears after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). METHODS: Two reviewers conducted independent literature searches based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing a PRP treatment group with a control group were included. The quality of evidence was assessed using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool. Clinical outcomes were compared using the risk ratio (RR) for dichotomous variables and weighted mean difference (WMD) for continuous variables. Statistical significance was set at P < .05. RESULTS: This review included 21 RCTs (1359 patients). Significant results were noted in favor of PRP treatment compared with controls based on retearing rates (16.5% vs 23.6%, respectively; P = .002) and the Constant score in the short term (WMD: 1.98; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.27-3.70; I2 = 0%; P = .02), medium term and long term (WMD: 2.56 [95% CI: 1.57-3.55]; I2 = 2%; P < .001); the University of California, Los Angeles score in the short term (WMD: 1.14 [95% CI: 0.43-1.85]; I2 = 25%; P = .002) but not in the medium and long term (WMD: 0.66 [95% CI: -0.16 to 1.48]; I2 = 57%; P = .11); and the visual analog scale score in the short term (WMD: -0.63 [95% CI: -0.83 to-0.43]; I2 = 41%; P < .001), medium and long term (WMD: -0.12 [95% CI: -0.19 to-0.05]; I2 = 0%; P = .008). There was no significant difference in American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scores between the treatment and control groups in the short term (WMD: -0.48 [95% CI: -2.80 to 1.85]; I2 = 22%; P = .69) or medium and long term (WMD: 0.92 [95% CI: -1.56 to 3.39]; I2 = 40%; P = .47). CONCLUSION: Intraoperative use of PRP reduces the risk of rotator cuff repair failure, improves clinical outcomes, and reduces recurrence rates.

Tendons are fibroblastic structures that link muscle and bone. There are two kinds of tendon injuries, including acute and chronic. Each form of injury or deterioration can result in significant pain and loss of tendon function. The recovery of tendon damage is a complex and time-consuming recovery process. Depending on the anatomical location of the tendon tissue, the clinical outcomes are not the same. The healing of the wound process is divided into three stages that overlap: inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Furthermore, the curing tendon has a high re-tear rate. Faced with the challenges, tendon injury management is still a clinical issue that must be resolved as soon as possible. Several newer directions and breakthroughs in tendon recovery have emerged in recent years. This article describes tendon injury and summarizes recent advances in tendon recovery, along with stem cell therapy, gene therapy, Platelet-rich plasma remedy, growth factors, drug treatment, and tissue engineering. Despite the recent fast-growing research in tendon recovery treatment, still, none of them translated to the clinical setting. This review provides a detailed overview of tendon injuries and potential preclinical approaches for treating tendon injuries.

The clinical impact of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF®) respectively has been studied extensively in the field of regenerative dentistry during the last two decades. Literature supports evidence for additional benefits in regenerative periodontal therapy, alveolar ridge preservation, management of extraction sockets, implantology including guided bone regeneration as well as defect management in oral surgery. Regarding gingival wound healing and soft tissue regeneration, there is sufficient evidence for their positive effects which have been confirmed in several systematic reviews. The effects seem less clear in conjunction with osseous regenerative treatments, where the inter-study heterogenity in terms of different PRF-protocols, indications and application forms might hinder a systematic comparison. Nevertheless there is evidence that PRF might have beneficial effects on hard-tissue or its regeneration respectively.For being able to facilitate conclusions in systematic reviews, precise reporting of the used PRF-protocols is mandatory for future (clinical) research in the field of autologous platelet concentrates.

The use of autologous platelet concentrates (APC) such as platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and/or plasma rich in growth factors (PRGF®) is considered an established treatment modality in re-generative dentistry. The possibility of delivering growth factors over aclinically relevant time of several days seems particularly interesting in the context of wound healing.The growing body of evidence in the field of APC requires a continuous and actual knowledge of the literature for being able to make evidence-based treatment recommendations with a realistic assessment of possible advantages of this technology.PR(G)F can be applied in solid or liquid form, pure or in combination with other biomaterials. Both appear to be reasonable, depending on the clinical indication and/or desired treatment outcomes. Because of the many different factors that can affect the PR(G)F products final characteristics, a basic understanding of these parameters is desirable for choosing the most suitable product and/or optimizing its clinical application. This review aims to provide an over-view of relevant theoretical, practical, legal and biologic aspects of APCs.

Background/Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate if platelet-rich plasma (PRP) application into the wound during cesarean delivery improves wound healing and reduces pain in the postoperative period. Materials and Methods: A total of 46 patients undergoing cesarean section (CS) were included in this single-blind placebo-controlled intervention study: 23 women in the PRP group and 23 in the placebo group. Every patient was asked to evaluate pain by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) immediately after surgery, as well as 6 and 12 h after the surgery. The use of analgetics was also recorded. The postoperative scar was assessed using the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS). Results: There was no case of wound dehiscence in either group. Significant differences between the groups in the scar quality assessment were detected in both patient and doctor POSAS results on days 8, 30 and 90 after surgery in the favor of the PRP group. There was no difference in the pain intensity assessment on the VAS recorded after surgery, but PRP patients required fewer paracetamol doses per day than the control group. Conclusions: PRP application during CS significantly improved wound healing in both short- and long-term assessment. Although it did not influence postoperative pain intensity, it may reduce the use of analgetics after surgery.

A meta-analysis was conducted to comprehensively explore the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) combined with negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in treating patients with chronic wounds. Computer searches were conducted, from database infection to November 2023, in EMBASE, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Wanfang and China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the use of PRP combined with NPWT technology for treating chronic wounds. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data and conducted quality assessments according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Stata 17.0 software was employed for data analysis. Overall, 18 RCTs involving 1294 patients with chronic wounds were included. The analysis revealed that, compared with NPWT alone, the use of PRP combined with NPWT technology significantly improved the healing rate (odds ratios [OR] = 1.92, 95% confidence intervals [CIs]: 1.43-2.58, p < 0.001) and total effective rate (OR = 1.31, 95% CI: 1.23-1.39, p < 0.001), and also significantly shortened the healing time of the wound (standardized mean difference = -2.01, 95% CI: -2.58 to -1.45, p < 0.001). This study indicates that the treatment of chronic wounds with PRP combined with NPWT technology can significantly enhance clinical repair effectiveness and accelerate wound healing, with a high healing rate, and is worth further promotion and practice.
