RESUMEN

This study investigated how sitting and standing working postures affected operation force, upper limb muscle activation, and task performance using different pointing devices. Fifteen male participants completed cursor aiming and dragging tasks using a conventional mouse, a vertical mouse, and a trackball at sitting and standing workstations. A custom-made force plate was used to measure operation forces applied to the pointing devices. Surface electromyography (EMG) was used to capture the activation of the biceps brachii, triceps brachii, deltoid, and trapezius. Task performance was measured by task success rates, and subjective ratings were obtained for the force required for operation, smoothness of operation, accuracy, and local fatigue in the upper limb. We quantified the following significant outcomes: (1) greater operation forces were found when standing; (2) standing reduced EMG amplitudes of the triceps and trapezius muscles for all tasks; (3) during the aiming task, the vertical mouse had greater operation forces; (4) during the dragging task, both the vertical mouse and trackball had greater operation forces; and (5) task success rates differed for pointing devices only when sitting. This study revealed the distinct biomechanical properties of standing working posture and suggested limited beneficial effects of alternative pointing devices in terms of task performance and subjective ratings.

El presente estudio tiene como objetivo describir la relación que existe entre teletrabajo, carga mental y conflicto trabajo-familia. A 102 trabajadores del sector privado en Chile, que se encuentran bajo la modalidad de teletrabajo, se les administró de manera online los cuestionarios Cuestionario de percepción y condiciones teletrabajo (Ossa, Jiménez y Gómez, 2020), Cuestionario de carga mental (Ceballos, Paravic, Burgos y Barriga, 2014) y Cuestionario conflicto trabajo-familia" (Carlson, Kacmar y Williams, 2000). Se observan relaciones negativas y significativas entre teletrabajo y conflicto trabajo familia (r= -.572, p= .000) , y entre teletrabajo y carga mental (r= -.307, p= .002). Mientras que entre carga mental y conflicto trabajo-familia existe relación positiva (r= .360, p= .000). Se concluye que el Teletrabajo tiene influencia en las áreas de carga mental y conflicto trabajo-familia, del mismo modo que estas variables tienen influencia en el teletrabajo, por lo que el apoyo de recursos organizacionales, tecnológicos e interpersonales de una de estas áreas por parte de la organización será beneficioso para las políticas organizacionales.


The present study has as its objective to describe the existing relationship between remote work, mental burden and work-family conflict. The questionnaires Remote Work Perception Scale (Ossa, Jiménez & Gómez, 2020), Mental Burden Scale (Ceballos, Paravic, Burgos & Barriga, 2014) and Work-family Conflict Questionnaire (Carlson, Kacmar & Williams, 2000)were administered via online to 102 private sector workers in Chile who are working remotely. Negative relationships between remote work and work-family conflict were observed (r= -.572, p= .000), and between remote work and mental burden (r= -.307, p= .002). While there is a positive relationship between mental burden and work-family conflict (r= .360, p= .000). It is concluded that remote work has an influence on the areas of mental burden and work-family conflict in the same manner that this variables have an influence on remote work, so that the support of organisational, technological and interpersonal resources on one of these areas by the organisation can be beneficial for the organisational politics and the workers' life.


O presente estudo tem como objetivo descrever a relação entre teletrabalho, carga mental e conflito trabalho-família. 102 trabalhadores do setor privado no Chile, que estão na modalidade de teletrabalho, foram aplicados online os questionários "Questionário de condições de percepção e teletrabalho" (Ossa, Jiménez e Gómez, 2020), "Questionário de carga mental" (Ceballos, Paravic, Burgos e Barriga, 2014) e "Questionário conflito trabalho-família" (Carlson, Kacmar e Williams, 2000). O estudo da crescente feminização da área da Medicina de Família e Comunidade coloca na agenda de estudiosos a preocupação com os fatores e impactos dessa tendência nas trajetórias das carreiras das médicas, principalmente daquelas que estão exercendo suasatividades em áreas periféricas. O objetivo do estudo do qual resulta este artigo foi compreender como as médicas justificam suas escolhas e permanências no exercício da Medicina de Família e Comunidade, mesmo em contextos considerados potencialmente violentos. Realizamos uma investigação de caráter qualitativo, que dialogou com aspectos da cartografia, a partir de entrevistas realizadas com oito médicas de família que se fixaram em áreas de alta vulnerabilidade social em uma capital brasileira. A análise dos enunciados apontou para o gênero como o eixo marcador de diferença, destacando o empuxo exercido pela maternidade, o conceito gênero em sua dinâmica interseccional. Identificamos que a responsabilização pelo cuidado permanece impactando o processo decisório das mulheres, (re)definindo o equilíbrio entre vida pessoal/familiar e trabalho e (de)limitando as trajetórias de suas carreiras.


The growing trend of feminization of family practice raises scholars' concerns about the factors and effects of this trend on the trajectories of female medical careers, particularly those working in outlying areas. The aim of the study, from which this article results, was to understand how medical women justify their choices and permanence in the family practice career while working in contexts considered potentially violent. We carried out a qualitative study with cartographic aspects, based on interviews with eightfamily doctors who are settled in areas of high social vulnerability in a large city in Brazil. The analysis of the statements pointed to gender, in its intersectional dynamics, as the major axis of difference in the practice. Motherhood is highlighted ashaving a major impact on female professionals. Our study identified that the duty of care persists in impacting women's decision-making, (re) defining the balance between personal and family life and (de) limiting their career trajectories.

Evaluation of a complex healthcare intervention should include careful exploration of the mechanisms through which it brings about change. This paper describes a qualitative evaluation of the Redesigning Daily Occupations (ReDO®-10) programme as it was implemented for the first time with women with stress-related issues in a primary care setting in Ireland. The ReDO®-10 is a 10-week group intervention designed to support participants make changes to their daily activity patterns to have a more satisfying and balanced daily life. Fourteen women were interviewed after completing the programme. The aim was to explore changes that participants perceived they experienced and to understand how the content of ReDO®-10 was thought to bring about this change (if it did). Directed content analysis was used to analyse the qualitative data using the Behaviour Change Wheel and Theoretical Domains Framework as a coding framework. Overall, four BCW functions of ReDO® -10 were identified: Education, Persuasion, Modelling and Enablement. Participants described improved belief in their own capabilities, knowledge and goals around life changes. Many behaviour changes were also described, particularly in relation to doing more restorative activities in daily life. Behaviour change techniques that were identified as important for change were practicing new, restorative occupations in group sessions and as homework and the use of self-analysis activities to understand the relationship between activities and health for these participants. Modelling, support and other effects of group dynamics were also vital in changes that occurred.

Resumen (analítico) Chile es un caso emblemático en la instalación de una política de protección a la infancia con orientación neoliberal. Actualmente, esta política es ejecutada casi completamente por organizaciones privadas, financiadas conforme al logro de indicadores de desempeño estandarizados. Algunas investigaciones plantean que estos indica-dores gobiernan la racionalidad de los trabajadores y trabajadoras; empero, estudios internacionales señalan que este tipo de gobernanza no solo es racional, sino también afectiva. A partir de un análisis textuala-fectivo de 14 entrevistas individuales y dos talleres grupales realizados a cinco trabajadoras y un trabajador de distintos organismos colaboradores del Servicio Nacional de Menores, se reporta que este modelo de gestión consume y maquiniza los cuerpos de estas y estos profesionales. No obstante, el afecto es el que hace posible la resistencia.


Abstract (analytical) Chile is an emblematic case in the implementation of a neoliberal child welfare policy. This policy is now almost entirely undertaken by private organizations, financed based on their achievement of standardized performance indicators. Scientific literature suggests that these indicators govern workers' rationality. However, international studies indicate that the effect of indicators is not just rational but also affective. From a textual-affective analysis of 14 interviews and 2 workshops conducted with 5 female workers and 1 male worker from different partner organizations within the Chilean National Service for Minors, participants reported that this management model consumes and mechanizes the work carried out by these professionals. However, it is affectivity that makes resistance possible.


Resumo (analítico) O Chile é um caso emblemático na instalação de uma política neoliberal de proteção à criança. Esta, é hoje quase inteiramente executado por organizações privadas, financiadas de acordo com a obtenção de indicadores de desempenho padronizados. Pesquisas sugerem que estes indicadores governam a racionalidade dos trabalhadores; enquanto estudos internacionais indicam que este governo não é apenas racional, mas também afetivo. A partir de uma análise textual-afetiva de 14 entrevistas e duas oficinas realizadas a cinco trabalhadoras e um trabalhador de diferentes Organizações Colaboradoras do Serviço Nacional de Menores, é relatado que este modelo de gestão consome e mecaniza os órgãos destes profissionais. No entanto, é o afeto que torna possível a resistência.

CONTEXT: Work-family guilt has been reported among athletic trainers (ATs) working in the intercollegiate setting; however, it has yet to be fully explored from a descriptive, in-depth perspective. OBJECTIVE: To better understand the experiences of work-family conflict and guilt of intercollegiate ATs who are parents. DESIGN: Descriptive qualitative study. SETTING: Intercollegiate athletics. PATIENTS OR OTHER PARTICIPANTS: Twelve collegiate ATs (females = 6, males = 6) participated in the study. All 12 were married (12 ± 7 years) with an average 2 ± 1 children (range = 1-4). The ATs reported working 51 ± 9 hours per week and spending 11 ± 7 hours per week on household duties or chores. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: One-on-one interviews were conducted with all participants. An inductive descriptive coding process was used to analyze the data after saturation was met. Peer review and researcher triangulation were completed. RESULTS: Conflict and guilt were discussed as unavoidable given the equally demanding roles of AT and parent. The resulting guilt was bidirectional, as each role is equally important to the AT. The management theme was specifically defined by 3 subthemes: creating a separation between work and parenting roles, the benefits of having a supportive workplace, and the importance of having coworkers and supervisors with shared life experiences. CONCLUSIONS: The ATs experienced work-family conflict and feelings of guilt from their parental responsibilities. The guilt described by the ATs was bidirectional, as they placed high value on both their parenting and athletic training roles. Guilt was balanced and managed by reducing the spillover from the parental role into work or work into time at home. By separating roles and having supportive workplace environments, including coworkers and supervisors who had similar life experiences, ATs felt they were better able to meet work and home demands.

El presente manual establece el desarrollo de jornadas de autocuidado de la salud mental, por medio de las cuales se brindan herramientas para el desarrollo de las intervenciones y concibe al participante como un ser integral, con sus propias emociones y sentimientos, permitiendo reconocer en sí mismo la falta de conciencia en el autocuidado así como la importancia que tienen las influencias y condicionamientos familiares, culturales y socio ambientales en la determinación social de nuestros hábitos de vida actuales. El presente manual, está dividido en seis secciones: la primera comprende los antecedentes históricos del autocuidado, la segunda presenta algunas definiciones del autocuidado, la tercera establece lo relacionado a la promoción y los principios del autocuidado, la cuarta comprende los factores determinantes del autocuidado y las formas en que la atención repercute en la salud de los prestadores de servicios, la quinta define el estrés, burnout y la traumatización vicaria y el papel del profesional de salud en el fomento del autocuido y finalmente la sexta sección presenta la estructura de las jornadas de trabajo


This manual establishes the development of mental health self-care sessions, through which tools are provided for the development of interventions and the participant is conceived as an integral being, with their own emotions and feelings, allowing them to recognize in themselves the lack of awareness in self-care as well as the importance of family, cultural and socio-environmental influences and conditioning in the social determination of our current life habits. This manual is divided into six sections: the first includes the historical background of self-care, the second presents some definitions of self-care, the third establishes what is related to the promotion and principles of self-care, the fourth includes the determining factors of self-care and the ways in which care affects the health of service providers, the fifth defines stress, burnout and vicarious traumatization and the role of the health professional in promoting self-care and finally the sixth section presents the structure of the sessions of work

As leis trabalhistas vêm sendo usurpadas continuamente pelo sistema capitalista neoliberal que modifica o ordenamento empregatício e o sistema de lazer no país, especialmente com o avanço da tecnologia. Observa-se o avanço de diversas modalidades de labor que crescem como oposição ao contrato CLT e aos direitos trabalhistas. Essa quebra de direitos e dissolução do lazer têm reflexos diretos na saúde dos indivíduos. É necessária a mudança do lazer no momento atual, trazendo um lazer popular, por meio de políticas públicas que alterem a visão consumista s obre direitos, ao mesmo tempo é importante saber que apenas com a superação do sistema capitalista será possível realmente a emancipação da classe trabalhadora, para que a vida seja mais que uma obrigação.


Labor laws are being usurped by the neoliberal capitalist system that modifies the employment system and the leisure system in the country, especially with the advancement of technology. There is an advance in labor modalities that grow as opposed to the CLT and labor rights. This breach of rights and the dissolution of leisure have a direct impact on the health of individuals. Because it, it is necessary to change leisure at the present time, bringing a popular leisure, through public policies that alter the consumerist view of rights; at the same time it is important to know that only with the overcoming of the capitalist system the emancipation of the worker class will really be possible, so that the life may be more than an obligation.

Objetivo: Identificar quais os sentidos do trabalho atribuídos às enfermeiras em suas rotinas diárias de atuação. Método: A abordagem do estudo apresentou-se de forma qualitativa e, a coleta de dados, procedeu mediante entrevistas individuais com nove participantes no período de abril de 2019. As categorias de análise foram compostas no eixo dos sentidos do trabalho e seus seis constructos (utilidade social, oportunidades de aprendizagem e desenvolvimento, autonomia, cooperação e relacionamento com os demais colaboradores). Resultados: Os seis constructos foram identificados e correlacionados com a rotina de trabalho de cada profissional. Os resultados indicaram que o sentido do trabalho para cada profissional possui características polissêmicas e, muitas vezes, confrontantes. Conclusão: Esta pesquisa contribui com as discussões a respeito da sensibilização dos profissionais enfermeiros quanto aos sentidos do trabalho e a essência do cuidado à profissão(AU)


Objective: Identify the meanings of work attributed to nurses in their daily work routines. Methodology: The study approach was presented in a qualitative way and data collection proceeded through individual interviews with nine participants. The analysis categories were composed in the work senses axis and its six constructs (social utility, learning and development opportunities, autonomy, cooperation and relationship with other employees). Results: The six constructs were identified and correlated with the work routine of each professional. The results indicated that the meaning of work for each professional has polysemic and often confronting characteristics. Considerations: This research contributes to discussions regarding the awareness of professional nurses about the meanings of work and the essence of care for the profession.(AU)


Objectivo: Identificar los significados del trabajo atribuidos al enfermero en sus rutinas laborales diarias. Metodología: El enfoque del estudio se presentó de forma cualitativa y la recolección de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas individuales con nueve participantes. Las categorías de análisis se compusieron en el eje sentidos del trabajo y sus seis constructos (utilidad social, oportunidades de aprendizaje y desarrollo, autonomía, cooperación y relación con otros empleados). Resultados: Se identificaron los seis constructos y se correlacionaron con la rutina de trabajo de cada profesional. Los resultados indicaron que el significado del trabajo para cada profesional tiene características polisémicas y muchas veces enfrentadas. Consideraciones: Esta investigación contribuye a las discusiones sobre la conciencia de los profesionales de enfermería sobre los significados del trabajo y la esencia del cuidado para la profesión(AU)

RESUMEN

O estudo documental analisa o que é essencial para a formação inicial e continuada de professores e para o trabalho pedagógico da Educação Física. As fontes foram documentos da ANFOPE, CNE, CNTE, CONFEF/CREF, MEC, MNCR, poder legislativo. Concluímos que existe um embate entre perspectivas: utilitarista e pragmática, que considera essenciais a exploração, terceirização, precarização da formação e do trabalho docente; e contra hegemônica, na qual o essencial é a vida humanizada, fundada na valorização da docência e do magistério, na formação e atuação profissional, na defesa dos serviços públicos e na luta por outro modo de produção da vida (AU).


The documentary study analyzes what is essential for the initial and continuing education of teachers and for the pedagogical work of Physical Education. The sources were documents from ANFOPE, CNE, CNTE, CONFEF/CREF, MEC, MNCR, and legislative power. We conclude that there is a clash between perspectives: utilitarian and pragmaticconsiders essential the exploration, outsourcing, precariousness in tea-cher training and teacher work; and counter-hegemonic, for which the essential is the humanized life, based on the appreciation of teaching, on professional training and performance, on the defense of public servi-ces, and on the struggle for another way of production of life (AU).


El estudio documental analiza lo fundamental para la formación inicial y continua de los profesores y para la labor pedagógica de la Educación Física. Las fuentes fueron documentos de ANFOPE, CNE, CNTE, CONFEF/CREF, MEC, MNCR y poder legislativo. Concluimos que existe un choque de perspectivas: la utilitarista y pragmática considera imprescindible la exploración, la subcontratación, la precariedad en la formación y el trabajo docente; y contrahegemónicoa para lo cual lo esencial es la vida humanizada, fundada en la valorización de la docência y del magisterio, en la formación y actuación profesional, en la defensa de los servicios públicos y en la lucha por otra forma de producción de la vida (AU).

Organizations have shown an interest in socio-emotional competencies due to the current knowledge that they are as important as technical competencies for the best personal and professional development. However, there is no consensus in the literature regarding the conceptual definition of these competencies. Accordingly, this narrative review aimed at characterizing the concept of socio-emotional competencies and the instruments used in Brazilian and international studies in the context of organizations and work. The Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and Biblioteca Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações databases were consulted, resulting in 26 articles composing the sample. The results show that there is a myriad of concepts about socio-emotional competencies, and that the instruments used evaluate mainly emotional intelligence, personality and other more consolidated constructs in the literature. The impacts of the multiple possibilities of conceptualizing and measuring socio-emotional competences are discussed (AU).


As organizações têm demonstrado interesse nas competências socioemocionais devido ao conhecimento atual de que são tão importantes quanto as competências técnicas para o melhor desenvolvimento pessoal e profissional. No entanto, não há consenso na literatura sobre a definição conceitual dessas competências. Nesse sentido, esta revisão narrativa teve como objetivo caracterizar o conceito de competências socioemocionais e os instrumentos utilizados nos estudos brasileiros e internacionais no contexto das organizações e trabalho. Foram consultadas as bases de dados Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar e Biblioteca Brasileira de Teses e Dissertações, resultando em 26 artigos compondo a amostra. Os resultados indicam uma miríade de conceitos sobre competências socioemocionais e que os instrumentos utilizados avaliam principalmente inteligência emocional, personalidade e outros construtos mais consolidados na literatura. Os impactos das múltiplas possibilidades de conceituar e mensurar competências socioemocionais são discutidos (AU).


Las organizaciones han mostrado interés en las habilidades socioemocionales debido al conocimiento actual de que son tan importantes como las habilidades técnicas para un mejor desarrollo personal y profesional. Sin embargo, no hay consenso en la literatura sobre la definición conceptual de estas competencias. En consecuencia, esta revisión narrativa tuvo como objetivo caracterizar el concepto de competencias socioemocionales y los instrumentos utilizados en los estudios brasileños e internacionales en el contexto de las organizaciones y del trabajo. Se consultaron las bases Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar y Biblioteca Digital Brasileña de Tesis y Disertaciones, lo que resultó en 26 artículos que componen la muestra. Los resultados indican una gran cantidad de conceptos sobre las competencias socioemocionales y que los instrumentos empleados evalúan principalmente la inteligencia emocional, la personalidad y otros constructos más consolidados en la literatura. Se discuten los impactos de las múltiples posibilidades de conceptualizar y medir las competencias socioemocionales (AU).

O presente estudo visou adicionar evidências de validade à Escala de Potencial Criativo no Trabalho, por meio da investigação da influência de variáveis relacionadas ao sujeito (gênero, idade e nível de escolaridade) e ao ambiente organizacional (tempo de empresa) nos resultados do teste e investigar a precisão do instrumento por meio do método de teste e reteste. A amostra foi composta por 371 participantes, com idade média de 33,1 anos, funcionários de empresas de pequeno a grande porte. Nenhuma das variáveis se mostrou significativa nos dois fatores do instrumento (bloqueios e barreiras à criatividade; atributos e características que favorecem a criatividade). Somente três interações se mostraram significativas (sexo x idade no Fator 1; escolaridade x idade no Fator 1; idade x tempo no Fator 2). A precisão se mostrou adequada (r = 0,650 no Fator 1 e r = 0,729 no Fator 2). Estudos voltados à investigação de outras qualidades psicométricas do instrumento são recomendados (AU).


The goal of this study was to add evidence of validity for the Creative Potential at Work Scale, by investigating the influences of variables related to the subject (sex, age, level of education) and the organizational environment (length of time in the company) on test results. The reliability of the instrument was also examined using the test and retest method. Participants in the study were 371 employees employed in small to large companies with a mean age of 33.1 years. There was no significant relationship between any of the variables and the two factors of the instrument (blocks and barriers to creativity; attributes and characteristics that promote creativity). There were only three significant interactions in the study (sex x age for Factor 1; education x age for Factor 1; age x time for Factor 2). In this study, reliability was found to be adequate (r=.650 for Factor 1 and r=.729 for Factor 2). The instrument should be investigated further to determine its other psychometric properties (AU).


El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo agregar evidencias de validez a la Escala de Potencial Creativo en el Trabajo, investigando la influencia de las variables relacionadas con el tema (género, edad y nivel de educación) y el entorno organizacional (tiempo en la empresa) en los resultados a través del método de test-retest. La muestra consistió en 371 participantes, con una edad media de 33.1 años, empleados de pequeñas y grandes empresas. Ninguna de las variables resultó significativa en los dos factores del instrumento (bloqueos y barreras a la creatividad; atributos y características que favorecen la creatividad). Solo tres interacciones fueron significativas (sexo x edad en el Factor 1; educación x edad en el Factor 1; edad x tiempo en el Factor 2). La precisión demostró ser adecuada (r = 0.650 en el Factor 1 y r = 0.729 en el Factor 2). Se recomienda la realización de estudios para investigar otras cualidades psicométricas del instrumento (AU).

We examined the prospective association of physical exertion at work with subsequent tobacco, cannabis, alcohol use, and sugar and fat consumption. Volunteers of the French population-based CONSTANCES cohort currently employed were included from 2012 to 2017 for tobacco and cannabis outcomes (n = 100,612), and from 2012 to 2016 for alcohol and sugar and fat outcomes (n = 75,414). High level of physical exertion at work was defined as a score ≥ 12 at the Rating Perceived Exertion Borg scale. Substance use was self-reported and diet rich in sugar and fat was obtained from principal component analysis and analyzed as quartiles. Generalized linear models computed odds of substance use and sugar and fat consumption at follow-up according to baseline physical exertion at work, while adjusting for sociodemographic factors, depressive symptoms and baseline level of consumption. High physical exertion was associated with tobacco use with dose-dependent relationships. It was also associated with increased odds of cannabis use at least once per month compared to no use in the past and with increased odds of diet rich in sugar and fat. Hence, the role of physical exertion at work on tobacco and cannabis use and diet rich in sugar and fat should be tackled for information and prevention strategies.

PURPOSE: Male urinary incontinence (UI) is a global health issue associated with bothersome symptoms which affect daily life. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of male UI in China, Taiwan, and South Korea and to determine if UI is an independent risk factor affecting the health-related quality of life (HRQoL), mental health, work limitations, and healthcare seeking behavior. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A post-hoc analysis was conducted on the LUTS Asia database which was collated from a cross-sectional, population-based internet survey in China, Taiwan, and South Korea. Prevalence of male UI was assessed, and the effect on HRQoL, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) depression and anxiety scores, work performance, and healthcare seeking behaviors was determined using univariate and multivariate analyses. RESULTS: A total of 4,076 male participants were surveyed. Prevalence of male UI was 17.3%. UI adversely affected the HRQoL in both physical and mental domains. Both multivariate and univariate analyses showed that male UI could be correlated with a negative effect on the HADS anxiety and depression scores. Multivariate analysis suggested that work difficulties were correlated to the presence of UI. Up to 28% of participants who reported urge UI only did not adopt any management measures. CONCLUSIONS: UI is common in men over 40 years and adversely impacts HRQoL. It is an independent risk factor for anxiety and depression and may cause significant work limitations. Despite these negative effects, many men still do not seek any intervention.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: This study develops a working model characterizing work volition among women suffering from fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) to better understand the vocational challenges these women face, the drivers behind their ambitions, and the coping strategies they implement. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A qualitative phenomenological study was conducted consisting of semi-structured interviews with 15 women diagnosed with FMS who are currently employed. The interviews were analyzed according to the principles of Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. RESULTS: The findings point to the enormous efforts these women make to ration their energy and preserve their careers by implementing calming cognitive, social, and solution-focused strategies. Several motivational factors governing work volition emerged from the interviews: (1) a drive for esteem, power, and control; (2) achieving self-actualization and a sense of meaning in life by nurturing of others; (3) preserving a sense of existence through their career achievements; and (4) pushing beyond their physical limits. They reported implementing four calming, cognitive-focused, social support, and solution-focused strategies to reduce pain. CONCLUSIONS: Work plays an important role in grounding these women's sense of vitality and normalcy. This is coupled with their enormous efforts to pursue and preserve their careers by calming the mind and the body. Paradoxically, however, these efforts appear to aggravate their physical exhaustion and distress. The complexity of maintaining a career when diagnosed with FMS as well as issues of general physical and mental health are discussed.Implications for rehabilitationCareer has an existential significance for women with Fibromyalgia.Motivational factors for work volition were identified; these include ambition for esteem, the obtaining of meaning, and gaining a sense of existence.Enormous efforts have been taken to save energy and preserve careers.Women are trapped between their desire to work and the need to conserve energy.Body-mind interventions are recommended for women's rehabilitation.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the relationships between physical activity, both work and recreational, and urinary incontinence among women. METHODS: We assessed women aged 20 years and older in 2008-2018 NHANES (National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey) cycles who answered self-reported urinary incontinence and physical activity questions. Weighted, multivariate logistic regression model was used to determine the association between incontinence and physical activity levels after adjusting for age, body mass index, diabetes, race, parity, menopause and smoking. RESULTS: A total of 30,213 women were included in analysis, of whom 23.15% had stress incontinence, 23.16% had urge incontinence, and 8.42% had mixed incontinence (answered "yes" to both stress and urge incontinence). Women who engaged in moderate recreational activity were less likely to report stress and urge incontinence (OR 0.79, 95% CI 0.62-0.99 and OR 0.66, 95% CI 0.48-0.90, respectively). Similarly, women who engaged in moderate activity work were less likely to report stress, urge and mixed incontinence (OR 0.84, 95% CI 0.70-0.99; OR 0.84, 95% CI 0.72-0.99; and OR 0.66 95% CI 0.45-0.97, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Moderate physical activity and greater time spent participating in moderate physical activity are associated with a decreased likelihood of stress, urge and mixed incontinence in women. This relationship holds for both recreational and work-related activity. We hypothesize that the mechanism of this relationship is multifactorial, with moderate physical activity improving pelvic floor strength and modifying neurophysiological mediators (such as stress) involved in the pathogenesis of incontinence.

Abstract Objective: to understand how the contradictions and tensions of neoliberal policy, materialized in precarious work, affect nursing workers' mental health in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: this is a study with a qualitative and descriptive approach, analyzed in the light of neoliberal economic policy. Data were collected through virtual means, with the participation of 719 nursing workers, from April to June 2020. To organize the data, the IRaMuTeQ® software and thematic analysis were used. Results: the reports revealed the lack of value of workers and the loss of social labor rights; the progressive nature of the neoliberal policy, its threats and repercussions on workers' mental health; and recognition by female workers that political and class participation does not occur in isolation, but collectively. Conclusion: under the aegis of neoliberal policy, the COVID-19 pandemic brought an upsurge precarious work, influencing nursing workers' subjectivity and mental health.


RESUMEN Objetivo: comprender cómo las contradicciones y tensiones de la política neoliberal, materializadas en la precariedad del trabajo, afectan la salud mental de los trabajadores de enfermería en el contexto de la pandemia de COVID-19. Método: se trata de un estudio con enfoque cualitativo y descriptivo, analizado a la luz de la política económica neoliberal. Datos recolectados a través de medios virtuales, con la participación de 719 trabajadores de enfermería, de abril a junio de 2020. Para organizar los datos se utilizó el software IRaMuTeQ® y análisis temático. Resultados: los informes revelaron la desvalorización de los trabajadores y la pérdida de los derechos sociolaborales; el carácter progresivo de la política neoliberal, sus amenazas y repercusiones en la salud mental de los trabajadores; y el reconocimiento por parte de las trabajadoras de que la participación política y de clase no se da de forma aislada, sino de forma colectiva. Conclusión: bajo la égida de la política neoliberal, la pandemia de COVID-19 provocó un recrudecimiento de la precariedad laboral, incidiendo en la subjetividad y la salud mental de los trabajadores de enfermería.

Para a organização dos dados, foi utilizado o software IRaMuTeQ® e análise temática. Resultados: os relatos revelaram o desvalor das trabalhadoras e as perdas dos direitos sociais trabalhistas; a progressividade da política neoliberal, suas ameaças e repercussão na saúde mental das trabalhadoras; e reconhecimento das trabalhadoras de que a participação política e de classe não ocorre de forma isolada, mas coletiva. Conclusão: sob a égide da política neoliberal, a pandemia de COVID-19 trouxe um recrudescimento da precariedade do trabalho, influenciando na subjetividade e na saúde mental das trabalhadoras de enfermagem.

Los cuidados de fin de vida han evolucionado en lo conceptual y en lo práctico, incluyendo el tipo de profesionales que se involucra actualmente en esta área del quehacer. El trabajo de los/las fonoaudiólogos/as históricamente se ha relacionado con la intervención de las dificultades en la comunicación y deglución, sin embargo, frente al acompañamiento de personas en su proceso de muerte, es necesario diversificar esta concepción. Por esto, el presente artículo tiene por objetivo, reflexionar sobre nuestra realidad como profesionales de la salud en dicha área, por esto se presenta una revisión de tópicos relacionados con los cuidados de fin de vida, buscando entregar sustentos teóricos y prácticos al respecto. Se destacan aspectos relevantes para la intervención, tales como el modelo de salud que fundamenta las intervenciones que se realizan (biomédico ­ biopsicosocial), la importancia del autoconocimiento y el rol que juegan las emociones del profesional en el proceso terapéutico. Finalmente, se hace referencia a puntos relevantes relacionados con la intervención clínica específica a nivel fonoaudiológico, buscando ampliar el entendimiento y los límites del abordaje de las personas con dificultades de comunicación y deglución (alimentación) al final de su vida, esperando con ello explicitar lo diverso de las acciones realizables en el acompañamiento de la población antes mencionada


End-of-life care has evolved conceptually and practically, including the type of professionals currently involved in this area of work. Speech and Language therapists practice has historically been related to the intervention of communication and swallowing difficulties, however, when accompanying people in their dying process, it is necessary to diversify this conception. Therefore, this article aims to reflect on our reality as health professionals in this area, therefore a review of issues related to end-of-life care is presented. Relevant aspects for the intervention are highlighted, such as the health model that underlies the interventions carried out (biomedical - biopsychosocial), the importance of self-knowledge and the role played by the professional's emotions in the therapeutic process.Finally, reference is made to important points related to the specific clinical intervention at the speech and language therapy level, seeking to expand the understanding and the limits of the approach to people with communication and swallowing difficulties (feeding) at the end of their life, hoping to make explicit the diversity of the actions that can be performed in the accompaniment of the aforementioned population
