RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of periodontal mechanical therapy for chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients with low dose of aspirin. METHODS: Sixty nine chronic periodontitis patients with coronary heart disease were randomly selected as the experimental group (medication group, group A), the control group (withdrawal group, group B) including 20 chronic periodontitis patients with coronary artery disease, stopping the drug for one week and another control group with 50 chronic periodontitis patients (group C). The three groups were examined with pocket probing, and received supragingival scaling, subgingival scaling, and root planning. Local bleeding after operation was observed. In 30 minutes after periodontal mechanical treatment, there was still a need to take some hemostatic measures (containing the oxidized cellulose putting in the periodontal pocket, gauze oppressing, and suturing). Nd:YAG laser was used to stop bleeding 60 minutes after operation. RESULTS: At baseline, there was no significant difference in the three groups, as to the plaque index(PLI), the probing depth (PD), and the attachment loss (AL). The bleeding index (BI)in group A was significantly higher than that in group C (P=0.024), higher than that in group B (P=0.088). The platelet maximum aggregation rate (Agg(max)) was detected in some subjects. The average Agg(max) value group A was 15.2%, which was much greater than that in group B (60.7%) and group C (62.5%). The three groups were all safe in the treatment of periodontal therapy. There were five cases of active bleeding in group A, one case in group B and one case in group C in 30 minutes after operation. In 60 minutes after operation, there was one case of bleeding actively in group A. Nd:YAG laser was used to stop bleeding successfully. CONCLUSION: The chronic periodontitis and coronary heart disease patients with long-term oral administration of low dose of aspirin can be safely treated with periodontal mechanical treatment, and the effect of local hemostasis is positive without stopping the drug.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To understand the oral care status of elderly inpatients in various departments, analyze the existing problems, and provide a basis for further improving the oral care practices and promoting the oral health of elderly patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This study intends to investigate the oral care status of patients in a tertiary hospital in Chongqing. This study was divided into two phases, the first phase was designed as a cross-sectional study. Our aim was to explore the implementation status of oral care in each department. The second phase of this study was to explore the correlation between patient oral care and patient outcomes. RESULTS: We extracted a total of 9,164 cases of elderly discharged patients. Primary care patients were mainly distributed in various general wards, among which orthopedics was the most frequent, accounting for 30.19%. The oral care doctor order rate of the patients with premium care was 80.21%, and the rate of oral care orders of the primary care patients was only 2.10%. The study analysis found that among surgical and intensive care unit (ICU) patients, patients in high-frequency group and low-frequency group were significantly better than that of patients without oral care in terms of overall survival. CONCLUSIONS: The oral care is still insufficient, and the frequency of use is relatively infrequent. This study also found that oral care can improve patient outcomes and reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).

RESUMEN

The prevalence and mortality of the patients who suffer cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases are rising in China, and the number of periodontitis patients with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases is growing. Certain principles should be followed during periodontal treatments for these patients due to their particular health conditions. Stomatologists should cooperate with cardiovascular physicians to evaluate the risks and benefits of periodontal treatments in advance, and to select reasonable treatment timings and plans. During treatments, the heart rates, blood pressures and other vital indicators are monitored in real time to avoid acute cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events. The application, discontinuation and adjustment of specific cardiovascular drugs are determined by cardiovascular physicians.

RESUMEN

Ammonium gluconate (AG) provides both an organic carbon source and a nitrogen source, which can positively improve soil fertility and delay soil degradation. We investigated the underlying mechanisms of both NH4 + - and C6 H11 O7 - -mediated resistance to high salt concentrations in maize (Zea mays L.), and how they relate to antioxidant cellular machinery, root system architecture, root activity and lignin content in roots. Seedlings treated with AG maintained lower Na+ content, higher chlorophyll content, higher CAT and POD activity, compared with those without AG and ammonium carbonate (AC). The total size of the root system, primary root length and number of lateral roots detected on the primary root treated with AG decreased compared with those not treated with AG at the same NaCl concentration. However, average root diameter and root activity when treated with AG were significantly higher than roots without AG at the same NaCl concentration. Furthermore, total size of the root system, primary root length and number of lateral roots detected on primary rootsof seedlings treated with AG were higher than those treated with AC at the same NaCl concentration. These results suggested that AG may be a good organic fertiliser under salt stress by decreasing Na+ content and increasing chlorophyll content, activity of antioxidant enzymes, root diameter and root activity in maize seedlings.

RESUMEN

Objective:To study the effect of small incision combined with PVC slice through suture in the treatment of auricular pseudocyst.Method:The clinical data of 55 patients with auricular pseudocyst were analyzed retrospectively. The operation method of small incision combined with PVC was adopted. The anterior cartilage of the cyst was not need to remove and the integrity of the auricle stent and the elasticity of the auricle were preserved. Postoperative use of pruning PVC slice through the suture fixed pressure, then observe the recovery of the ear.Result:Fifty-five cases (57 ears) were cured in one time, the cyst disappeared and the auricle shape recovered well. All patients were followed-up for 6-12 months, no recurrence. Conclusion:The combination of small incision and PVC slice through the suture treatment of auricular pseudocyst, the operation is simple, short course, good effect, the patient pain is small, not easy to relapse, safe and reliable, maintaining the original physiological function and natural appearance. It is worthy in clinical application.

RESUMEN

The performance of size-exclusion electrochromatography (SEEC) for the mass distribution analysis of synthetic polymers was studied and compared to conventional, pressure-driven size-exclusion chromatography (SEC). Electroosmotic flow control, within-day, day-to-day and column-to-column repeatability were determined for SEEC with respect to retention and separation efficiency. It was shown that by using the retention ratio instead of the migration time, the precision of the mass distribution calculations is sufficiently high, and that similar distributions were obtained for a sample analyzed by pressure-driven SEC and by SEEC. Furthermore, hexafluoroisopropanol was demonstrated to be a new and potent solvent for SEEC. It was used for the separation of narrow polymethylmethacrylate standards and several commercially important polymers such as polycarbonate, polycaprolactam and poly(ethylene terephthalate), using UV detection in the deep UV region (195-230 nm).

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of lipopolysaccharide(LPS) and dialyzer membrane on cytokine gene expression and protein production in uremic patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and regular hemodialysis(HD). METHODS: Interleukin-1 beta (IL-1 beta) and interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) produced by cultured peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) after exposure to cuprammonium (Cup) membrane, polysulfone (PS) membranes or endotoxin were detected using enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay. mRNA expression was determined simultaneously by in situ hybridization. RESULTS: In the absence of endotoxin, a small amount of IL-1 beta and IL-1 Ra was produced by PBMC harvested from HD and CAPD patients after incubation with Cup or PS during subsequent 24-hour culture. For healthy controls, IL-1 beta was barely detectable just above the detection limit. Although no differences could be found in protein synthesis between Cup and PS, in situ hybridization showed that Cup induced markedly higher level mRNA coding for IL-1 beta and IL-1Ra. In contrast, when subsequently stimulated with endotoxin, PBMC incubated with Cup could produce significantly larger amount of IL-1 beta and IL-1Ra compared with either unstimulated cells or post-incubation PBMC with PS. LPS-stimulated PBMC in healthy subjects produced similar amount of IL-1 beta and markedly lower IL-1Ra as compared with uremic patients on HD and CAPD. CONCLUSIONS: Two steps are required in healthy control for IL-1 beta and IL-1Ra production: induction of mRNA transcription by membrane contact, followed by LPS-induced translation, while in uremic patients on HD or CAPD bioincompatibility-membrane and LPS have a synergetic effect on IL-1 beta and IL-1Ra production. There exists an unbalance between IL-1 beta and its specific inhibitor in maintenance dialysis patients.

RESUMEN

A detailed analysis of the structure of an 18-residue peptide AQSLLVPSIIFILAYSLK [M6(252-269, C252A)] in 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-phosphocholine bilayers was carried out using solid state NMR and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The peptide corresponds to a portion of the 6th transmembrane domain of the alpha-factor receptor of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Ten homologs of M6(252-269, C252A) were synthesized in which individual residues were labeled with (15)N. One- and two-dimensional solid state NMR experiments were used to determine the chemical shifts and (1)H-(15)N dipolar coupling constants for the (15)N-labeled peptides in oriented dimyristoylphosphatidylcholine bilayers on stacked glass plates. These parameters were used to calculate the structure and orientation of M6(252-269, C252A) in the bilayers. The results indicate that the carboxyl terminal residues (9-14) are alpha-helical and oriented with an angle of about 8 degrees with respect to the bilayer normal. Independently, an attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis on M6(252-269, C252A) in a 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-phosphocholine bilayer concluded that the helix tilt angle was about 12.5 degrees. The results on the structure of M6(252-269, C252A) in bilayers are in good agreement with the structure determined in trifluoroethanol/water solutions (B. Arshava et al. Biopolymers, 1998, Vol. 46, pp. 343-357). The present study shows that solid state NMR spectroscopy can provide high resolution information on the structure of transmembrane domains of a G protein-coupled receptor.
