RESUMEN

Based on the key factor of spontaneous modified atmosphere packaging (MAP)-gas permeability, a spontaneous MAP film was created for the preservation of Agaricus bisporus by delaying the senescence of white mushrooms. Compared with other mixed films, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC)/pueraria (P)-2 showed better mechanical properties, barrier properties and thermal stability energy. Applying the HPMC/P-2 film for preserving white mushrooms can spontaneously adjust the internal gas environment. Moreover, the O2 concentration in the package remained stable at 1-2 %, and the CO2 concentration was between 8 % and 14 %. The film can effectively reduce the respiration rate of white mushrooms, inhibit enzymatic browning, maintain their good color and texture, and delay their aging. In conclusion, the HPMC/P-2 film can be used not only for fruit and vegetables preservation but also provide theoretical basis for sustainable food packaging.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Periodontal disease has been associated with systemic inflammation and may be a risk factor for autoimmune diseases. This study evaluated the association between periodontal disease and the risk of incident psoriasis in a large prospective cohort study. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Self-reported history of periodontal bone loss, from 1998-2008, was evaluated as a risk factor for incident psoriasis among 60,457 women in the Nurses' Health Study. Secondary analyses examined associations between history of tooth loss and number of natural teeth and psoriasis risk. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess multivariate estimates, adjusting for age, cigarette smoking, body mass index, alcohol intake and physical activity. RESULTS: An increased multivariate risk of psoriasis was observed for those with mild periodontal bone loss (RR = 1.35, 95% CI = 1.03-1.75) and moderate-to-severe periodontal bone loss (RR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.08-2.05), as compared to those without periodontal bone loss, after adjusting for age, cigarette smoking, body mass index, alcohol intake, physical activity and tooth loss. Number of natural teeth and tooth loss were not associated with risk of psoriasis in this study. CONCLUSION: This study shows that a history of periodontal bone loss may increase risk of subsequent psoriasis. A limitation of this study is that it is based on self-reported measures.

RESUMEN

Traditional transplantation, surgical extrusion and intentional replantation procedures are important treatment options that clinicians may consider performing in their daily clinical practice. There should be a well-constructed treatment plan for teeth with problems. In this paper, we present a series of case reports on three treatment methods used in autologous tooth transplantation and a literature review on the prevention of postoperative complications and the advantages of autologous tooth transplantation compared to dental implantation. The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of autologous tooth transplantation.

RESUMEN

Bacillus subtilis has been engineered successfully to express heterologous antigens for use as a vaccine vehicle that can elicit mucosal and systemic immunity response. In this study, a recombinant B. subtilis expressing the B subunit of cholera toxin (CT-B) and an epitope box constituted with antigen sites from foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV) type Asia 1 was constructed and named 1A751/CTB-TEpiAs. Its capability to induce mucosal, humoral, and cellular responses in mice and guinea pigs was evaluated after oral administration with vegetative cells of 1A751/CTB-TEpiAs. In addition, its capability to protect guinea pigs against homologous virus challenge was examined. All animals were given booster vaccination at day 21 after initial inoculation and guinea pigs were challenged 3 weeks after booster vaccination. The control groups were inoculated with a commercial vaccine or administered orally with 1A751/pBC38C or an oral buffer. All animals vaccinated with 1A751/CTB-TEpiAs developed specific anti-FMDV IgA in lung and gut lavage fluid, serum ELISA antibody, neutralizing antibody as well as T lymphocyte proliferation, and IFN-γ secretory responses. Three of the five guinea pigs vaccinated with 1A751/CTB-TEpiAs were protected completely from the viral challenge. The results demonstrate the potential viability of a B. subtilis-based recombinant vaccine for the control and prevention of FMDV infections.
