RESUMEN

Inspired by the timely emergence of silkworm pupae from their cocoons, silkworm chrysalis-like probiotic composites (SCPCs) are developed for the comprehensive therapy of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in which probiotics are enveloped as the "pupa" in a sequential layering of silk sericin (SS), tannic acid (TA), and polydopamine, akin to the protective "cocoon". Compared to unwrapped probiotics, these composites not only demonstrate exceptional resistance to the harsh gastrointestinal environment and exhibit over 200 times greater intestinal colonization but also safeguard probiotics from the damage of IBD environment while enabling probiotics sustained release. The probiotics, in synergy with SS and TA, provide a multi-crossed comprehensive therapy for IBD that simultaneously addresses various pathological features of IBD, including intestinal barrier disruption, elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines, heightened oxidative stress, and disturbances in the intestinal microbiota. SCPCs exhibit remarkable outcomes, including a 9.7-fold reduction in intestinal permeability, an 8.9-fold decrease in IL-6 levels, and a 2.9-fold reduction in TNF-α levels compared to uncoated probiotics. Furthermore, SCPCs demonstrate an impressive 92.25% reactive oxygen species clearance rate, significantly enhance the richness of beneficial intestinal probiotics, and effectively diminish the abundance of pathogenic bacteria, indicating a substantial improvement in the overall therapeutic effect of IBD.

RESUMEN

Anaerobic membrane bioreactor (AnMBR) offer promise in municipal wastewater treatment, with potential benefits including high-quality effluent, energy recovery, sludge reduction, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions. However, AnMBR face hurdles like membrane fouling, low energy recovery, etc. In light of net-zero carbon target and circular economy strategy, this work sought to evaluate novel AnMBR configurations, focusing on performance, fouling mitigation, net-energy generation, and nutrients-enhancing integrated configurations, such as forward osmosis (FO), membrane distillation (MD), bioelectrochemical systems (BES), membrane photobioreactor (MPBR), and partial nitrification-anammox (PN/A). In addition, we highlight the essential role of AnMBR in advancing the circular economy and propose ideas for the water-energy-climate nexus. While AnMBR has made significant progress, challenges, such as fouling and cost-effectiveness persist. Overall, the use of novel configurations and energy recovery strategies can further improve the sustainability and efficiency of AnMBR systems, making them a promising technology for future sustainable municipal wastewater treatment.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Accurate inlay preparation is extremely important in pre-clinical training. However, there is a lack of tools to guide students to efficiently practise inlay preparation. Therefore, a 3D-printed coloured tooth model for inlay preparation was designed to guide beginners to practise inlay preparation by themselves according to different colour prompts. This study aimed to evaluate the benefits of using a 3D-printed coloured tooth model in the pre-clinical training on inlay preparation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-eight students in their fourth-year undergraduate dental program participated in this study. The participants were randomly assigned to two groups for the inlay preparation. Group 1 prepared a plain tooth model for the first and fourth attempts and a 3D-printed coloured tooth model for the second and third attempts (n = 14). Group 2 prepared four plain tooth models (n = 14). The first and fourth tooth models prepared by both groups were scored using an evaluation system (Fair Grade 2000, NISSIN). Next, questionnaires answered by students were used to evaluate the benefits of using a 3D-printed coloured tooth model and self-evaluate hands-on ability using a grading system (1 = strongly agree, 2 = agree, 3 = neutral, 4 = disagree, and 5 = strongly disagree). The scores were evaluated statistically using the Mann-Whitney U test, and the given grades are displayed as percentages and mean values. RESULTS: There was an overall increase in the clinical confidence of all students after repeated attempts to prepare an inlay; however, students from group 1, who had used the 3D-printed coloured tooth model, had more positive experiences and comments. The 3D-printed coloured tooth model for inlay preparation has been widely praised by participants. Comparing the average score of the first and fourth preparations, the average score of group 1 increased by 12% (Ø 54.46 ± 8.33, Ø 61.11 ± 7.13, p = .090), while that of group 2 increased by 0.72% (Ø 56.39 ± 9.59, Ø 56.80 ± 8.46, p = .925). CONCLUSION: Students favoured the use of the 3D-printed coloured tooth model, and this improved the average score for inlay preparation. The 3D-printed coloured tooth model for inlay preparation is expected to play an important role in dental education in the future.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) are important seed cells for tissue engineering to realize the regeneration of alveolar bone. Understanding the gene regulatory mechanisms of osteogenic lineage differentiation in PDLSCs will facilitate PDLSC-based bone regeneration. However, these regulatory molecular signals have not been clarified. METHODS: To screen potential regulators of osteogenic differentiation, the gene expression profiles of undifferentiated and osteodifferentiated PDLSCs were compared by microarray and bioinformatics methods, and PSAT1 was speculated to be involved in the gene regulation network of osteogenesis in PDLSCs. Lentiviral vectors were used to overexpress or knock down PSAT1 in PDLSCs, and then the proliferation activity, migration ability, and osteogenic differentiation ability of PDLSCs in vitro were analysed. A rat mandibular defect model was built to analyse the regulatory effects of PSAT1 on PDLSC-mediated bone regeneration in vivo. The regulation of PSAT1 on the Akt/GSK3ß/ß-catenin signalling axis was analysed using the Akt phosphorylation inhibitor Ly294002 or agonist SC79. The potential sites on the promoter of PSAT1 that could bind to the transcription factor ATF4 were predicted and verified. RESULTS: The microarray assay showed that the expression levels of 499 genes in PDLSCs were altered significantly after osteogenic induction. Among these genes, the transcription level of PSAT1 in osteodifferentiated PDLSCs was much lower than that in undifferentiated PDLSCs. Overexpressing PSAT1 not only enhanced the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation abilities of PDLSCs in vitro, but also promoted PDLSC-based alveolar bone regeneration in vivo, while knocking down PSAT1 had the opposite effects in PDLSCs. Mechanistic experiments suggested that PSAT1 regulated the osteogenic lineage fate of PDLSCs through the Akt/GSK3ß/ß-catenin signalling axis. PSAT1 expression in PDLSCs during osteogenic differentiation was controlled by transcription factor ATF4, which is realized by the combination of ATF4 and the PSAT1 promoter. CONCLUSION: PSAT1 is a potential important regulator of the osteogenic lineage differentiation of PDLSCs through the ATF4/PSAT1/Akt/GSK3ß/ß-catenin signalling pathway. PSAT1 could be a candidate gene modification target for enhancing PDLSCs-based bone regeneration.

RESUMEN

Although paraquat is a widely used herbicide, it is toxic to humans if ingested or absorbed through an open wound. To improve the safety of paraquat, a new formulation of paraquat based on photoresponsive polymers was exploited. Photoresponsive ß-cyclodextrin polymer microspheres (AZO-CD) were synthesized via a host-guest interaction between ß-cyclodextrin and azobenzene. AZO-CD were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry, circular dichroism, ultraviolet (UV) spectrophotometry, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their photoresponsiveness was also evaluated. AZO-CD were used to load paraquat, which yielded photoresponsive paraquat-loaded microspheres. For the paraquat-loaded microspheres, irradiation with UV light or sunlight induced the isomerization of azobenzene into the cis form. Then, the cis-azobenzene was liberated from the cavities of the ß-cyclodextrin. The paraquat-loaded microspheres released paraquat continuously over time. Furthermore, under UV light, the herbicidal capacity of the paraquat-loaded microspheres against barnyard grass was comparable to that of free paraquat at the same dose. Our findings show that loading paraquat into AZO-CD provides a safe and environmentally friendly herbicide formulation.

RESUMEN

We have previously shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) in nipple discharge are potential diagnostic biomarkers. In particular, exosomes are present in nipple discharge. Herein, we sought to elucidate the protective role of exosomes on miRNAs in nipple discharge and investigate the stability of miRNAs encapsulated in exosomes under degradative conditions. A novel TTMAAlPc-RNA complex method was used to measure the RNase concentration in colostrum and nipple discharge. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to test the stability of exogenous synthetic miRNAs (cel-lin-4-5p and cel-miR-2-3p) and endogenous miRNAs (hsa-miR-4732-5p, hsa-miR-3646, hsa-miR-4484, and kshv-miR-K12-5-5p). RNase was present and functional in colostrum and nipple discharge. Endogenous miRNAs were more stably expressed compared to exogenous miRNAs at room temperature and 4°C. Triton X-100 (1%, 30 min) destroyed the exosomal membrane, causing RNA degradation in colostrum but not in nipple discharge. Therefore, we confirmed that exosomes in colostrum and nipple discharge could protect miRNAs from degradation by RNase. Exosomes in nipple discharge may be more resistant to Triton X-100 lysis compared to those in the colostrum. Exosomal miRNAs in nipple discharge in breast cancer are stable under degradative conditions. Differential Triton X-100 sensitivity of exosomes of nipple discharge and colostrum warrants further investigation.

RESUMEN

Porous structures are essential for some collagen-based biomaterials and can be regulated by crosslinkers. Herein, dialdehyde carboxymethyl cellulose (DCMC) crosslinkers with similar size but different aldehyde group contents were prepared through periodate oxidation of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose with varying degrees of substitution (DS). They can penetrate into the hierarchy of fibril and form inter-molecular and intra-fibril cross-linking within the collagen matrix due to their nanoscale sizes and reactive aldehyde groups. The collagen matrices possessed higher porosity, significantly greater proportion of large pores (Φ > 10 µm), and shorter D-periodicity after cross-linking, showing greater potential for biomedical applications. In addition, the crosslinked collagen matrices showed satisfactory biocompatibility and biodegradation. The decreased DS of carboxymethyl cellulose, which led to the increased aldehyde content of corresponding DCMC, brought about an enhanced cross-linking degree, porosity, and proportion of large pores of the crosslinked collagen matrix. DCMC dosage of 6% was sufficient for cross-linking and pore formation. Excess DCMC would physically deposit in the matrix and decrease the porosity instead. Therefore, the desired pore properties of the collagen matrix could be obtained by regulating the structure of DCMC and thereby achieving the required functions of the biomaterial.

RESUMEN

The roots of Melastoma malabathricum subsp. normale (D. Don) Karst. Mey have been used in traditional ethnic medicine systems in China to treat inflammation-triggered ailments, such as trauma, toothache, and fever. Therefore, the aim of this study is to screen for compounds with anti-inflammatory activity in the title plant. The extract of M. malabathricum subsp. normale roots was separated using various chromatographic methods, such as silica gel, ODS C18, MCI gel, and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, as well as semi-preparative HPLC. One new complex tannin, named whiskey tannin D (1), and an undescribed tetracyclic depsidone derivative, named guanxidone B (2), along with nine known polyphenols (2-10) and three known depsidone derivatives (12-14) were obtained from this plant. The structures of all compounds were elucidated by extensive NMR and CD experiments in conjunction with HR-ESI-MS data. All these compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time. Moreover, compounds 1-4, 8, and 10-14 were obtained for the first time from the genus Melastoma, and compounds 1, 2, and 11-14 have not been reported from the family Melastomataceae. This is the first report of complex tannin and depsidone derivatives from M. malabathricum subsp. normale, indicating their chemotaxonomic significance to this plant. Compounds 1-12 were investigated for their anti-inflammatory activities on the production of the nitric oxide (NO) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 cells, and compounds 1, 11, and 12 showed anti-inflammatory activities with IC50 values of 6.46 ± 0.23 µM, 8.02 ± 0.35 µM, and 9.82 ± 0.43 µM, respectively. The structure-activity relationship showed that the catechin at glucose C-1 in ellagitannin was the key to its anti-inflammatory activity, while CH3O- at C-16 of aromatic ring A in depsidone derivatives had little effect on its anti-inflammatory activity. The study of structure-activity relationships is helpful to quickly discover new anti-inflammatory drugs. The successful isolation and structure identification of these compounds, especially complex tannin 1, not only provide materials for the screening of anti-inflammatory compounds, but also provide a basis for the study of chemical taxonomy of the genus Melastoma.

RESUMEN

Controlled-release formulations (CRFs) have potential applications in modern agriculture, for it can not only prolong the duration of agrochemicals but also alleviate the adverse effect on non-target organism. In this study, we constructed pyraclostrobin@SiO2@polydopamine microcapsule (Pyr@SiO2@PDA MC). The resulting microcapsule is a near-rod shape (about 1.15 µm), which has a drug-loading efficiency of 55%. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TG) revealed the successful entrapment of the pesticide. The coating of polydopamine (PDA) endowing the microcapsule with superior UV-shielding properties than pyraclostrobin@SiO2 microcapsule (Pyr@SiO2 MC). Compared with pyraclostrobin emulsifiable concentrate (EC), the Pyr@SiO2@PDA MC exhibited 9.07-, 5.50-, 4.93- and 4.16-fold higher fungicidal activity against Rice blast fungus (Pyricularia oryzae) at concentrations of 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 mg/L. Moreover, acute toxicity tests demonstrated that the sample on zebrafish with lower toxicity on the first day. These results showed that the obtained microcapsule may process broader application potential in agriculture.

RESUMEN

Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) is a major pathogen that causes hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), which occasionally results in severe neurological complications. In this study, we developed four EV-A71 (rgEV-A71) strains by reverse genetics procedures as possible vaccine candidates. The four rgEV-A71 viruses contained various codon-deoptimized VP1 capsid proteins (VP1-CD) and showed replication rates and antigenicity similar to that of the wild-type virus, while a fifth virus, rg4643C4VP-CD, was unable to form plaques but was still able to be examined by median tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50) titers, which were similar to those of the others, indicating the effect of CD on plaque formation. However, the genome stability showed that there were some mutations which appeared during just one passage of the VP1-CD viruses. Thus, we further constructed VP1-CD rgEV-A71 containing high-fidelity determinants in 3D polymerase (CD-HF), and the number of mutations in CD-HF rgEV-A71 was shown to have decreased. The CD-HF viruses showed less virulence than the parental strain in a mouse infection model. After 14 days postimmunization, antibody titers had increased in mice infected with CD-HF viruses. The mouse antisera showed similar neutralizing antibody titers against various CD-HF viruses and different genotypes of EV-A71. The study demonstrates the proof of concept that VP1 codon deoptimization combined with high-fidelity 3D polymerase decreased EV-A71 mutations and virulence in mice but retained their antigenicity, indicating it is a good candidate for next-generation EV-A71 vaccine development.IMPORTANCE EV-A71 can cause severe neurological diseases with fatality in infants and young children, but there are still no effective drugs to date. Here, we developed a novel vaccine strategy with the combination of CD and HF substitutions to generate the genetically stable reverse genetics virus. We found that CD combined with HF polymerase decreased the virulence but maintained the antigenicity of the virus. This work demonstrated the simultaneous introduction of CD genome sequences and HF substitutions as a potential new strategy to develop attenuated vaccine seed virus. Our work provides insight into the development of a low-virulence candidate vaccine virus through a series of genetic editing of virus sequences while maintaining its antigenicity and genome stability, which will provide an additional strategy for next-generation vaccine development of EV-A71.

RESUMEN

Reconstructing the chemical and structural characteristics of the plant cell wall represents a promising solution to overcoming lignocellulosic biomass recalcitrance to biochemical deconstruction. This study aims to leverage hydroxyproline (Hyp)-O-glycosylation, a process unique to plant cell wall glycoproteins, as an innovative technology for de novo design and engineering in planta of Hyp-O-glycosylated biopolymers (HypGP) that facilitate plant cell wall reconstruction. HypGP consisting of 18 tandem repeats of "Ser-Hyp-Hyp-Hyp-Hyp" motif or (SP4)18 was designed and engineered into tobacco plants as a fusion peptide with either a reporter protein enhanced green fluorescence protein or the catalytic domain of a thermophilic E1 endoglucanase (E1cd) from Acidothermus cellulolyticus. The engineered (SP4)18 module was extensively Hyp-O-glycosylated with arabino-oligosaccharides, which facilitated the deposition of the fused protein/enzyme in the cell wall matrix and improved the accumulation of the protein/enzyme in planta by 1.5-11-fold. The enzyme activity of the recombinant E1cd was not affected by the fused (SP4)18 module, showing an optimal temperature of 80°C and optimal pH between 5 and 8. The plant biomass engineered with the (SP4)18 -tagged protein/enzyme increased the biomass saccharification efficiency by up to 3.5-fold without having adverse impact on the plant growth.

RESUMEN

The purpose of the present study was to test whether a new stage classification based on radiographic visibility of the periodontal ligament in lower third molars in a Chinese population can be used for the 18- and 21-year thresholds. A total of 1300 orthopantomograms, including equal numbers of northern Chinese males and females evenly distributed between the ages of 15 and 40 years, were analyzed. The stages were defined according to the visibility of periodontal ligament for the outer parts of lower third molar roots because the visibility status of the periodontal ligament between the roots of lower third molars is none valuable in many Chinese individuals. Stage 0 was first achieved at the age of 17.05 years in males and 17.46 years in females. The earliest appearance of stage 1 was 17.47 years in males and 17.86 years in females. Stage 2 was first observed in males at the age of 21.43 years and in females at the age of 21.96 years. The onset of stage 3 was first observed at the age of 25.83 years in males and 23.14 years in females. Compared with the stage classification of Olze et al., which also considers the mesial parts of the roots, the number of assessable cases could be significantly increased. Therefore, our novel approach is effective for age estimation in the Chinese population.

RESUMEN

Inefficient diabetic ulcer healing and scar formation remain a challenge worldwide, owing to a series of disordered and dynamic biological events that occur during the process of healing. A functional wound dressing that is capable of promoting ordered diabetic wound recovery is eagerly anticipated. In this study, we designed a silicone elastomer with embedded 20(S)-protopanaxadiol-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (PPD-NS) to achieve ordered recovery in scarless diabetic ulcer healing. The nanostructured lipid carriers were prepared through an emulsion evaporation-solidification method and then incorporated into a network of silicone elastomer to form a unique nanostructured lipid carrier-enriched gel formulation. Interestingly, the PPD-NS showed excellent in vitro anti-inflammatory and proangiogenic activity. Moreover, in diabetic mice with full-thickness skin excision wound, treatment with PPD-NS significantly promoted in vivo scarless wound healing through suppressing inflammatory infiltration in the inflammatory phase, promoting angiogenesis during the proliferation phase, and regulating collagen deposition in the remodeling phase. Hence, this study demonstrates that the developed PPD-NS could facilitate ordered diabetic wound recovery via multifunctional improvement during different wound-healing phases. This novel approach could be promising for scarless diabetic wound healing.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Post-operative concurrent chemoradiotherapy has become the standard treatment for patients with positive lymph nodes after radical surgery. The aim of this study was to explore the efficiency and safety of consolidation chemotherapy in early-stage cervical cancer patients with lymph node metastasis after radical hysterectomy. METHOD: We reviewed the medical records of patients with early-stage cervical cancer with lymph node metastasis after radical hysterectomy from January 2010 to January 2017. All patients underwent adjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy (n=49) or three cycles of platinum-based consolidation chemotherapy following concurrent chemoradiotherapy (n=89). The primary end points of the study were disease-free survival and overall survival. RESULTS: The median follow-up time was 51 months (range 10-109). No significant difference was noted in disease-free survival, overall survival, or grade 3/4 gastrointestinal disorder between the consolidation chemotherapy group (78.1% vs 83.1% vs 6.7%) and the concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone group (75.4% vs 75.3% vs 4.1%), (p=0.42, 0.26, 0.80, respectively). However, the grade 3/4 myelosuppression rate in the consolidation group was higher than in the concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone group (40.4% vs 22.4%, p=0.03). For patients with >3 positive lymph nodes or patients with >2 positive lymph nodes+lymphovascular space invasion/≥1/3 stromal invasion, disease-free survival and overall survival were superior in the consolidation chemotherapy group compared with the concurrent chemoradiotherapy alone group (p<0.05). CONCLUSION: In patients with >3 positive lymph nodes or patients with >2 positive lymph nodes, lymphovascular space invasion, and greater than 1/3 stromal invasion, disease-free survival and overall survival were superior with consolidation chemotherapy. However, consolidation chemotherapy was also associated with an increased grade 3/4 myelosuppression rate.

RESUMEN

A new method of obtaining functional foam material has been proposed. The materials were created by mixing the poly lactic acid (PLA) solution in chloroform, chitosan (CS) dissolved in water saturated with CO2 and polyethylene glycol (PEG), and freeze-dried for removal of the solvents. The composite foams were characterized for their structural (SEM, FT-IR, density, porosity), thermal (DSC), functional (hardness, elasticity, swelling capacity, solubility), and biological (antimicrobial and cytotoxic) properties. Chitosan in the composites was a component for obtaining their foamed form with 7.4 to 22.7 times lower density compared to the neat PLA and high porosity also confirmed by the SEM. The foams had a hardness in the range of 70-440 kPa. The FT-IR analysis confirmed no new chemical bonds between the sponge ingredients. Other results showed low sorption capacity (2.5-7.2 g/g) and solubility of materials (less than 0.2%). The obtained foams had the lower Tg value and improved ability of crystallization compared to neat PLA. The addition of chitosan provides the bacteriostatic and bactericidal properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Biocompatibility studies have shown that the materials obtained are not cytotoxic to the L929 cell line.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Mirabegron, a ß3-adrenoceptor agonist, was approved for overactive bladder (OAB), but worsened hypertension was a potential risk based on its mechanism of action. Besides, head to head comparisons were limited between mirabegron and antimuscarinic agents, the prior first-line pharmacotherapy of OAB. In this regard, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare their efficacy as well as safety, especially in blood pressure changes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature search was conducted in PubMed, Medline and seven randomized clinical trial (RCT) register databases of WHO, EU, USA, Taiwan, China, Japan and Cochrane. Completed RCTs for OAB with mirabegron and antimuscarinics were identified and the last comprehensive search was run in August 2017. Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the potential bias, and RevMan5 software was performed for meta-analysis. RESULTS: Seven eligible RCTs (four for mirabegron vs. tolterodine and three for mirabegron vs. solifenacin) were included and demonstrated similar efficacy in micturitions, incontinence, and nocturia between mirabegron and antimuscarinics. In hypertension issue, no statistical differences were showed in risk ratio (RR) of hypertension events, change of blood pressure from baseline and change of blood pressure from placebo for all participants. On the other hand, RR of dry mouth was significantly lower in mirabegron users. CONCLUSIONS: Mirabegron was not inferior effective in improving OAB symptoms compared with antimuscarinic agents. In addition, mirabegron presented lower incidence of dry mouth and not higher risk for hypertension. Therefore, mirabegron has potential to be an alternative therapeutic option for OAB control.

RESUMEN

In many countries, assessment of legal age, also known as age of majority, has become increasingly important over the years. In China, individuals older than 18 years of age have full capacity regarding civil conduct and can be tried as an adult for criminal charges. Therefore, from a legal point of view, it is crucial to determine whether an individual is an adult. The developmental degree of the third molar is widely recognized as a suitable site for age estimation in late adolescence. This article uses the third molar maturity index (I3M) with a cutoff value of I3M = 0.08, which was established by Cameriere et al. in 2008, to distinguish whether an individual is a minor or an adult (≥ 18 years of age) in a northern Chinese population. A total of 840 digital orthopantomograms (OPTs) from 420 male and 420 female northern Chinese subjects aged 12 to 25 years were evaluated. It was found that an increase in I3M corresponded to a decrease in chronological age. In our study, I3M = 0.10 showed better accuracy in age discrimination in both men and women. This threshold also resulted in high sensitivity (0.929 and 0.809) and specificity (0.940 and 0.973) in males and females, respectively. The proportion of correctly classified subjects was 0.917 (95% CI, 0.898 to 0.935) in total, 0.938 (95% CI, 0.915 to 0.961) in male and 0.895 (95% CI, 0.866 to 0.925) in female subjects. Bayes post-test probabilities were 0.967 (95% CI, 0.947 to 0.986) in males and 0.983 (95% CI, 0.966 to 0.998) in females. These differences in threshold values between Chinese and Caucasian populations might be because the development of third molars is delayed in the Chinese population compared to the Caucasian population. In conclusion, I3M might be a useful method in legal and forensic practices to determine ages in late adolescence in northern Chinese individuals. However, a specific population should be tested before I3M is used for legal age estimation.

RESUMEN

Controlled release system has been widely developed and utilised in agriculture to optimise efficacy and minimise environmental pollution. Here, the azoxystrobin and difenoconazole compound pesticide microsphere was constructed by the solvent evaporation method. Blending poly (butylene succinate) (PBS) and poly (lactic acid) (PLA) as shells, in order to increase its entrapment efficiency and match the goal of complex synergism. The resulting microsphere processes high entrapment efficiency with a mean diameter of 7.2 µm. Acute toxicity suggested microsphere on zebrafish was moderate toxicity. Comparative studies revealed that the microsphere had a longer period of sustained release than difenoconazole-azoxystrobin (5:8) 32.5% w/v suspension concentrate (SC). In addition, the concentration ratio of active ingredients closed to the optimum compound stoichiometry, which can achieve the objective of improving the efficacy of the pesticides. These results demonstrated that such a compound pesticide microsphere delivery system may be a considerable potential for further exploration.

RESUMEN

Electromagnetic wave absorption coatings can effectively minimize electromagnetic radiation and are widely used in the military and civil field. However, even small scratches on the coating can lead to a large decline of absorption ability and bring serious consequences. To enhance the lifetime of electromagnetic wave absorbing coating, a kind of self-healing electromagnetic wave absorbing coating is developed by introducing host-guest interactions between the absorbing fillers and polymer matrix. After being damaged, the cracks on this coating can be healed completely with the aid of small amounts of water. Simultaneously, the electromagnetic absorbing ability of the coating is restored along with the self-healing process.
