RESUMEN

The aim of the study was to explore the molecular dynamics and transformation pathways of dissolved organic matter (DOM) in sewage sludge (SS) during composting, and the DOM of raw material, material experiencing thermophilic phase and material collected from humification phase were characterized using electrospray ionization coupled with Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry. The results indicated that there were approximately 85% of aliphatic/proteins and 75% of carbohydrate preferentially decomposed in the thermophilic phase. Moreover, lignins/carboxylic-rich alicyclic molecules (CRAM) were the main N-containing substances evolved in the decomposition, which leading to a reduction of N/C ratio from 0.073 to 0.041. Whereas aliphatic acids and tryptophan in lignins/CRAM with high oxidizing capacities are preferentially decomposed in the thermophilic phase. As for maturity phase, the carbon of the newly generated compounds (belonging to lignins/CRAM and tannins), possessed an oxidation state that similar to sulfonates and sulfonamides, and these DOM are beneficial for the humic substances formation. Moreover, it was found that the newly formed N2Ox and N3Ox compounds had a more significant contribution to the double bond equivalent (DBE) of the compost, corresponding to 1.0 and 1.7 DBE, respectively. The results would help explore the understanding of DOM transformation and humification during SS composting in the microscopic molecular level.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Current strategies for correcting alar retraction mainly include cartilage grafting and composite grafting, which are relatively complicated and may produce injury to the donor site. Herein, we introduce a simple and effective external Z-plasty technique for correcting alar retraction in Asian patients with poor skin malleability. METHODS: Twenty-three patients were presented with alar retraction and poor skin malleability, and they were very concerned about the shape of the nose. These patients undergoing external Z-plasty surgery were analyzed retrospectively. In this surgery, no grafts were needed, and the location of the Z-plasty was according to the highest point of the retracted alar rim. We reviewed the clinical medical notes and photographs. During the postoperative follow-up period, patients' reported satisfaction with aesthetic outcome were also evaluated. RESULTS: The alar retraction of all the patients was successfully corrected. The postoperative mean follow-up period was 8 months (range: 5-28 mo). No incidents of flap loss, recurrence of alar retraction, or nasal obstruction were observed during postoperative follow-up. Within postoperative 3-8 weeks, minor red scarring was visible at the operative incisions in most patients. However, these scars turned unobvious after postoperative 6 months. There were 15 cases (15/23) being very satisfied with the aesthetic outcome of this procedure. Seven patients (7/23) were satisfied with the effect and the invisible scar of this operation. Only one patient was dissatisfied with the scar, but she was satisfied with the correction effect of the retraction. CONCLUSION: This external Z-plasty technique can be an alternative method for correction of alar retraction with no need of cartilage grafting, and the scar can be unobvious with fine surgical suture. However, the indications should be limited in patients with severe alar retraction and poor skin malleability, who should not particularly care about the scars.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Nasal tip hypertrophy is common in Asians, and its reshaping is very critical in rhinoplasty. For patients who refuse any implant placed in the nose, there are limited options for tip reshaping. Herein, we introduce a new procedure of nasal tip and alar groove plasty through external nasal cutting in Asians. METHODS: A total of 20 patients who had hypertrophic nasal tip and refused to have any implants were included in this study. They were performed this procedure of nasal tip and alar groove plasty through external nasal cutting. The authors carefully reviewed the patients' medical records and preoperative and postoperative photographs. Self-reported satisfactions of patients with the scar morphology and correction effect were assessed at postoperative every follow-up using a questionnaire survey. RESULTS: All of the patients' procedures were completely successful, and the hypertrophic nasal tip was improved. In the long-term postoperative follow-up, the patients' wound showed no abnormalities such as scar contracture deformity, scar bumps, and nasal deformation. In 1 patient, the nasal wound developed significant scarring, and we performed reoperation to remove the superficial scar tissue. Surgical scars in the remaining patients were not obvious. Eight patients (8/20) reported "very satisfied" with scar shape and nasal tip shape improvement results, and 10 patients (10/20) reported "satisfied" with the outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: This procedure of nasal tip and alar groove plasty could be an alternative for making the nasal tip more refined. However, the surgical indications for this procedure need to be strictly limited to specific patients. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen, and because of its specificity, its treatments appear tricky in postrhinoplasty infections with internal implants. This study summarizes the clinical characteristics and treatment of this type of infections to provide some reference for clinical work. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 10 patients who were diagnosed with a nasal infection of P. aeruginosa after implant nasal augmentation. The results of the bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test of the patients' wound secretions were summarized and analyzed. We summarized the characteristics of the patients' infection and the treatments, and we also summarized the patients' prognosis. RESULTS: In these 10 cases, their implants included rib cartilage and ear cartilage alone, as well as their own cartilage combined with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and silicone. All patients developed wound infections within 1 month after rhinoplasty, with bacterial cultures of P. aeruginosa . Prolonged use of sensitive antibiotics, as well as wound dressing changes, failed to keep the infection well under control. Patients whose implant was removed and thoroughly debrided within 1 week of infection did not experience any serious complications. In patients who were infected for >1 week before surgery to remove the implants, complications such as nasal column necrosis and nasal contracture occurred, and later the nasal repair was performed after multiple surgeries. CONCLUSIONS: For bacterial infections in postrhinoplasty wounds with implants, we recommend early bacterial culture. If the infection is clearly P. aeruginosa , the implant should be removed and thoroughly debrided as soon as possible to avoid serious complications. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Restricted ventilation is common after rhinoplasty with an endogenous extension stent. The authors proposed an exogenous extension stent concept for Asian rhinoplasty patients to avoid this problem. Herein, we introduce an innovative stent in rhinoplasty for Asians, which is an application of this concept. METHODS: An L-shaped expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is hand-carved, and the long arm is placed at the nose back to improve the flatness of the nose, while the short arm supports the nasal column to raise the nose tip. The prosthesis does not occupy nasal volume and therefore theoretically does not affect nasal ventilation. The fan-shaped ear cartilage was placed at the nasal tip to prevent visualization of the nasal tip. The safety and effectiveness of this method were verified through 20 years of clinical practice. The difficulty of learning and popularizing the method was tested through the course of rhinoplasty among 22 plastic surgeons. RESULTS: After 20 years of clinical practice, it was found that this stent could not only effectively improve the nasal dorsum and tip morphology, but also did not actually affect the nasal volume and thus did not affect the nasal ventilation of patients. Among the trainees in plastic surgery, we found that it was not difficult to learn this method of rhinoplasty and the trainees could complete the prosthesis carving well after standardized training. CONCLUSION: This stent consisting of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene and ear cartilage is suitable in rhinoplasty for Asians with significant advantages, one of which is that it has no risk of resulting in restricted nasal ventilation. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV.

RESUMEN

Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce is used in traditional Chinese medicine and also consumed as a vegetable. In July of 2020, a root rot was observed on P. odoratum in a commercial field located in Benxi city (41º23'32" N, 124º04'27" E), Liaoning province of China. About 35% diseased plants in the field exhibited poor vigor, were stunted, and had yellow or brown leaves. Affected plants wilted and died. Roots of the plants were poorly developed, had brown lesions, and later rotted. To determine the causal agent, symptomatic roots with typical lesions were cut into small pieces, surface sterilized in 2% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) for 3 min, rinsed three times in sterile water, and plated onto PDA medium. After 5 days of incubation at 26°C, whitish-pink to red colonies growing from the root samples were observed and transferred to carnation leaf agar (CLA). Ten single conidia isolates obtained from the colonies on CLA were incubated at 26°C for 10 days. Abundant macroconidia were formed in sporodochia on CLA. Macroconidia were falcate, slender, distinctively curved in the bottom half of the apical cell, had 3 to 5 septa, and 33.1 - 46.3 × 5.0 - 7.2 µm (n=50). Chlamydospores formed in chains or single, measuring 13.8 to 14.5 µm in diameter. Microconidia were not observed on CLA. Morphologically, the isolates were identified as Fusarium acuminatum (Leslie and Summerell, 2006). To confirm the species identity, the partial translation elongation factor 1 alpha (TEF1-α) gene and rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of isolate YZ5-2 were amplified and sequenced (O'Donnell et al. 2015; White et al.1990). BLASTn analysis of both TEF sequence (MW423623) and ITS sequence (MW423626), revealed 100% (696/692 bp) and 99.64% (563/602 bp) sequence identity with F. acuminatum LC546967 and MF509746, respectively. Pathogenicity tests were carried out in the greenhouse. A conidial suspension (2 × 106 conidia per ml) of the isolate YZ5-2 was prepared from 7-day-old cultures grown in potato dextrose broth (PDB) o n a shaker (140 rpm) at 26±1°C. Five 12-liter pots were filled with sterilized field soil and each pot was drenched with 300ml of conidial suspension. Five control pots with sterilized field soil and 300 ml PDB were also included. Roots of 20 healthy P. odoratum plants were surface disinfected in 2% NaOCl for 3 min, and rinsed with sterilized water. Prior to planting, 2-3 pinholes (1.5× 1.0 mm) were made using a toothpick on the root surface of each plant, and they were then planted in each pot (2 plants per pot). All ten pots were maintained in a greenhouse at 22-26°C for 40 days. Plants grown in the pots inoculated with the conidial suspension were stunted, had yellowed leaves and were wilted. The roots of the affected plants were rotted. Disease symptoms were similar to those observed in field. Non-inoculated control plants had no symptoms. F. acuminatum was reisolated from inoculated plants and was identical to the original isolate. The experiment was repeated twice with similar results. To our knowledge, this is the first report of root rot of P. odoratum caused by F. acuminatum in China. The disease has since been observed on P. odoratum in fields in Liaoyang and Qingyuan city in Liaoning Province of China, and it has become an important threat to P. odoratum production in China.

RESUMEN

The present paper discusses how to monitor and analyze the relative change in muscle oxygen content in quadriceps tissue, and measures and records the change in blood lactate acid concentration, blood volume and heart rate when eight players who are good at middle-distance races perform grade incremental intensity exercise on cycle ergometer by using noninvasive tissue oximeter with near infrared spectroscopy produced by China independently. The results show that muscle oxygen content has a close relationship (p < 0.01)with exercise load, blood lactic acid, blood volume and heart rate. When determined muscle oxygen content and blood lactate acid concentration was determined for many times to the same person, the test proved regular falling and rising. There was no significant changes when analyzed each set of the data was analyzed through horizontal comparison. It verifies we can judge the subjects's endurable exercise intensity and the upward inflection point of blood lactic acid corresponding to the decreasing inflection point of blood lactate acid concentration & muscle oxygen content according to the muscle oxygen content change of skeletal muscle while exercising. This paper shows NIRS research status and present situation in sports field through investigation, and analyzes the main trouble and research tendency in the future. By understanding NIRS technology gradually, the authors can realize that the muscle oxygen content which measured by noninvasive tissue oximeter using near infrared spectroscopy produced by China independently is a sensitive, nondestructive, up-to-date and reliable index, it has irreplaceable advantages when compared with traditional invasive, excised and fussy test methods.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To formulate hydroxyapatite (HA)/polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composites with improved cytocompatibility for provisional restoration. METHODS: Nanocomposites with 20 wt%, 30 wt%, 40 wt%, and 50 wt% HA/PMMA (H/P) were developed and examined using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Human gingival fibroblasts were cultured on those HA/PMMA discs and investigated by fluorescent staining on 24 h and MTT assay at 1 d, 3 d, 5 d and 7 d. RESULTS: Chemical integration of HA/PMMA interface was confirmed by XPS. Typical fusiform cells with adhesion spots were detected on 40 wt% and 50 wt% H/P discs. MTT results showed insignificant differences in cell growth between 40 wt% H/P and pure titanium (Ti, P > 0.05), while the other H/P discs showed significantly lower cell growth than pure Ti (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: 40 wt% H/P might be a promising candidate for provisional dental implant restoration and for esthetic gingival contour.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Guided bone self-generation with periosteum-preserved has successfully regenerated mandibular, temporomandibular and interphalangeal joint. The aim of this study was to investigate the dynamic changes of gene expression of periosteum which was involved in the guided bone self-generation. METHODS: Rib defects of critical size were created in mature swine with periosteum-preserved. The periosteum was sutured into a sealed sheath that closed the bone defect. The periosteum of trauma and control sites were harvested at postoperative 9 time points, and total RNA was extracted. Microarray analysis was conducted to identify the differences in the transcriptome of different time points between two groups. RESULTS: The differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between control and trauma group were different at postoperative different time points. The dynamic changes of the number of DEGs fluctuated a lot. There were 3 volatility peaks, and we chose 3 time points of DEG number peak (1 week, 5 weeks and 6 months) to study the functions of DEGs. Oxidoreductase activity, oxidation-reduction process and mitochondrion are the most enriched terms of Go analysis. The major signaling pathways of DEGs enrichment include oxidative phosphorylation, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, osteoclast differentiation pathway and Wnt signaling. CONCLUSIONS: The oxidoreductase reaction was activated during this bone regeneration process. The oxidative phosphorylation, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, osteoclast differentiation pathway and Wnt signaling may play important roles in the guided bone self-generation with periosteum-preserved. This study can provide a reference for how to improve the application of this concept of bone regeneration.

RESUMEN

From August 1990 to December 2007, 156 patients with humeral shaft nonunion were treated with our patented Ni-Ti shape memory alloy swan-like memory pressure connector (SMC). The SMC device cooled with ice before implantation was warmed to 40-50 degrees C after implantation to produce balanced axial and compression forces to stabilise the fracture three-dimensionally. This combined with autologous bone grafting achieved bone tissue regeneration in the fracture and promoted smooth recovery of joint function, with a nonunion healing rate of 98.7% after a single SMC implantation. Failure of nonunion healing occurred in only two cases but was successfully managed by a further operation. Complications were not found in any of these patients apart from four with pre-existing radial nerve injuries. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of the SMC device for the management of humeral shaft nonunion. The device provides continuous compression of the fracture with minimal trauma to the local blood supply.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To observe immunoreaction to PVA/n-HA+ PA66 biological composite material after being implanted into animal body. METHODS: PVA/n-HA+PA66 composite materials were implanted into mouse subcutaneous tissue. Histologial examination was performed at 2, 4, 6 weeks, the amount of CD3, CD4+, CD8+ in blood and IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alpha in spleen cells was measured at the same time. RESULTS: The amount of CD3, CD4+, CD8+ in mouse blood and IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alpha in mouse spleen cells were not different with the control groups at 2, 4, 6 weeks (P > 0.05). The fibrous tissue and some blood vessels were found growing into the porous materials, which resulted in composite materials intergration of proliferative structure. The reject reaction was not found. CONCLUSION: PVA/n-HA+PA66 biological composite material does not cause immune rejection after being implanted into animal body, verifying its good biocompatibility.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of porous polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel (PVA-H) composite, for tissue engineering scaffold. METHODS: The approach of emulsifier-foaming, freeze-drying and surfactant-cleaning method was developed to gain three kinds of porous scaffolds: porous polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), porous polyvinyl alcohol/nano-hydroxyapatite (PVA/n-HA) and porous polyvinyl alcohol/chitosan (PVA/Cs). We checked the physical features of the above three kinds of materials and further investigated their biocompatibility by SEM image analysis, mechanics test, MTT and muscle implanting. RESULTS: Three kinds of materials had the similar character of high porosity (80%), but the PVA/n-HA had the smallest mean pore size (154.5 microm) and the PVA had the biggest tensile strength (0.60 Mpa). MTT assay demonstrated three kinds of materials to have no toxicity, furthermore, PVA had better absorbance, compared with cell control group (P < 0.05). After muscle implantation, there were many muscular tissues growing into pores of PVA/Cs at the 4th week, although PVA/Cs had stronger inflammatory reaction. Other two kinds of materials had very small inflammatory reaction and there were many fibrous tissues growing into pores at the 1st, 4th, 12th week. CONCLUSION: The features of materials are changed after adding n-HA or Cs, moreover, porous PVA/Cs seems to have the activity of inducing muscle growth. Porous PVA and its composites may be applied to tissue engineering as a long-term or permanent scaffold due to their good biocompatibility, elasticity and hydrophilicity.

RESUMEN

The natural ventilation widely used in greenhouses has advantages of saving energy and reducing expense. In order to provide information for climate control of greenhouse, a model was developed to predict the variation of air temperature in the naturally ventilated greenhouse equipped with insect-proof screen. Roof ventilation and combined roof and sidewall ventilation were considered in the model. This model was validated against the results of experiments conducted in the greenhouse when the wind was parallel to the gutters. The model parameters were determined by the least squares method. In the used model, effects of wind speed and window opening height on the air temperature variation were analyzed. Comparison between two types of ventilation showed that there existed a necessary ventilation rate which results in air temperature decrease in natural ventilation under special climatic conditions. In our experiments when wind speed was less than 3.2 ms(-1), wind had a more gradual effect on greenhouse temperature for roof ventilation, compared with combined roof and sidewall ventilation, which had greater air temperature decrease than roof ventilation only.

RESUMEN

Depression is common among lung cancer patients. Increasing evidence has suggested that hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and pro-inflammatory cytokines may play a key role in the pathophysiology of depression as well as cancer. This pilot study investigated the efficacy of sputum interleukin (IL)-6, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and salivary cortisol as new markers to support the diagnosis of depression in lung cancer patients. The diurnal rhythms of sputum IL-6, sputum TNF-α and salivary cortisol were measured in lung cancer patients with and without depression as well as depressed controls and healthy controls. The area under the diurnal variation curves (AUC) over the 24h time course and relative diurnal variation (VAR) were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis was performed. Patients with co-morbid depression and lung cancer showed highest level of sputum IL-6 AUC, sputum TNF-α AUC and lowest level of cortisol VAR (P<0.001). As a biomarker for depression, salivary cortisol VAR demonstrated an optimal cutoff point at 77.8% (AUC=0.94; 95% CI, 0.85-0.98), which is associated with a sensitivity of 82.1% and a specificity of 96.0%. Sputum IL-6 AUC demonstrated a sensitivity of 74.4% and a specificity of 92.0% (AUC=0.81; 95% CI, 0.69-0.90). These findings suggested that higher 24h overall levels of sputum IL-6, TNF-α and flattened diurnal salivary cortisol slopes were associated with depression in lung cancer patients. Sputum IL-6 AUC and salivary cortisol VAR performed best as biomarkers in the diagnosis of depression in lung cancer patients.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of the nano-hydroxyapatite/polyamide 6 (n-HA/PA6) on the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs), and the feasibility of using both for constructing tissue engineered bone in the calvarias of rats with critical sized defects. METHODS: The third passage of BMSCs were cultured in osteoblastic medium and seeded on the scaffolds of n-HA/PA6, the proliferation of the BMSCs was tested by MTT (3-{4,5-dimethylthiazol-2yl}-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium-bromide) on scheduled dates, and the osteoblastic differentiation of the BMSCs were measured by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) staining. Furthermore, the scaffolds with or without BMSCs in rat calvarial defects, after 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 16 weeks have been implanted. Histology and scanning electron microscope were used to test the bone healing in the different groups. RESULTS: The BMSCs seeded on the n-HA/PA6 grew well, the proliferation of cells was not affected by the scaffold, and the staining of ALP was also positive. At 4 week and 8 week after implantation, the n-HA/PA6 with BMSCs showed more new bone formation on the surface of scaffolds, with a better osseointegration of implant and host bone when compared with the group of n-HA/PA6 without BMSCs. However, there was no significant difference between these two groups at 16 week. CONCLUSION: The porous n-HA/PA6 has no negative effects on the proliferation and osteoblastic differentiation of rat BMSCs, and using BMSCs as seed cells and n-HA/PA6 as scaffolds is a good choice for constructing tissue engineered bone due to the enhanced new bone formation and osseointegration.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: Undried silver-hydroxyapatite-titania (Ag-nHA-nTiO2) nanoparticles slurry was used to make membrane with polyamide 66 (PA66) by co-polymerization method. The purpose of this study is to test the physical and chemical characteristics and antibacterial ability. METHODS: The morphology, chemical components and structures of the membrane were characterized by atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX). Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Escherichia coli (E. coli), Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis), Fusobacterium nucleatum (F. nucleatum) and Streptococcus mutans (S. mutans) were utilized to test the antibacterial effect. RESULTS: XRD results demonstrated that the membrane have characteristic diffraction peaks of pure hydroxyapatite (HA). A homogeneous distribution of the Ca, P, Ti and Ag element in the membrane was confirmed by EDX. Both surface and section showed porous structure which was confirmed by SEM and the average hole size was 20-30 microm. The bacteria assay reflected to the antibacterial effect, 50.10% of S. aureus and 56.31% of E. coli were killed. However, 91.84% of P. gingivalis, 90.64% of F. nucleatum and 90.49% of S. mutans were killed and pictures of SEM showed obviously fewer cells on the surface. CONCLUSION: The nanocomposite membrane could be one of the bioactive materials with antibacterial properties for oral guided bone regeneration technique.

RESUMEN

Polyvinylpyrrolidone is a macromolecular polymer with widespread use in industry as well as in medicine for various purposes. Its effect on cells cultured in vitro, however, has not been fully investigated. To elucidate this issue, we studied the influence of PVP K-30 on cultured HeLa cells. PVP K-30 treatment produced a dose- and time-dependent toxicity to HeLa cells. Cells exposed to PVP K-30 exhibited several morphological features of apoptosis. Gel electrophoresis of DNA from PVP K-30-treated cells showed typical apoptotic ladder. And flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that PVP K-30 induced cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase and the subsequent appearance of sub-G1 population. In addition, it was shown that procaspase-3 was activated in response to PVP K-30 treatment. We also found that alpha-tocopherol efficiently protected HeLa cells from PVP K-30 cytotoxicity. This is the first demonstration that PVP K-30 could induce apoptosis in HeLa cells and cell cycle arrest at G2/M phase, and that PVP K-30 toxicity could be attenuated by alpha-tocopherol.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to investigate reconstruction of segmental defect in the mandible using a new bionic materials of nano-hydroxyapatite -polyainides-66 (n-HA/PA66). METHODS: Two defects (15 mm x 10 mm x 5 mm) were created in the mandibular bodies of dogs. One of defects was reconstructed with n-HA/PA66, another not repaired as a blank control. At 2, 4, 8, 12, 16 weeks after operation. Evaluation of effects of n-HA/PA66 on reconstruction of the mandibular defects was carried out by means of radiography and histology. RESULTS: From 2 to 8 weeks after operation, some fiber tissue grew into the space between n-HA/PA66 and mandibular bone. The ossification was observed at 12 weeks post-operation. At 16 weeks, the n-HA/PA66 was connected directly to the mandibular bone by the newborn bone. CONCLUSIONS: The new artificial bone of n-HA/PA66 has the effects of osteoconduction and osteoinduction, with a good biocompatibility and is an ideal bone substitute material for reconstruction of mandibular defect.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of n-HA/PA66 plate as a guided implant for the regeneration of the soft tissue defects in palatal region of goats. METHODS: 12 goats were divided into experimental group and control group at random. 18.0 mm x 14.0 mm soft tissue defect and 15.0 mm x 13.0 mm hard tissue defect were formed artificially in hard palate. n-HA/PA66 plates were implanted to the defect in the experimental group. The tissue regeneration in the defects was observed and the structure of regenerating tissue was analyzed by histology. RESULTS: The mucoperiosteal tissue in the experimental group regenerated along the n-HA/PA66 plates and the mucoperiosteal defects were closed in 6 weeks. The soft and hard tissues were not closed up in control group in 6 weeks. CONCLUSION: n-HA/PA66 plates can guide the regeneration of mucoperiosteal tissue to close the palatal defects.
