RESUMEN

This novel materials assembly technology endows the designated materials with additional/enhanced performance by fixing "functional components" into the materials. Such functional components are molecularly recognized and accommodated by the designated materials. In this regard, two-photon fluorescence (TPF) organic molecules and CdTe quantum dots (QDs) are adopted as functional components to functionalize silk fibers and films. TPF organic molecules, such as, 2,7-bis[2-(4-nitrophenyl) ethenyl]-9,9-dibutylfluorene (NM), exhibit TPF emission quenching because of the molecular stacking that leads to aggregation in the solid form. The specific recognition between -NO2 in the annealed fluorescent molecules and the -NH groups in the silk fibroin molecules decouples the aggregated molecules. This gives rise to a significant increase in the TPF quantum yields of the silk fibers. Similarly, as another type of functional components, CdTe quantum dots (QDs) with different sizes were also adopted in the silk functionalization method. Compared to QDs in solution the fluorescence properties of functionalized silk materials display a long stability at room temperature. As the functional materials are well dispersed at high quantum yields in the biocompatible silk a TPF microscope can be used to pursue 3D high-resolution imaging in real time of the TPF-silk scaffold.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the clinical efficacy of antibiotic bone cement covered reconstruction steel plate in the treatment of infected anterior pelvic ring fracture. METHODS: From January 2017 to March 2022, 11 patients with infected anterior pelvic ring fracture were treated with antibiotic bone cement covered reconstruction steel plate including 7 males and 4 females and the age ranged from 27 to 49 years old. The pelvic fractures were classified according to the Tile typology: 4 cases of C1 type, 4 cases of C2 type, and 3 cases of C3 type. Among them, 2 cases of infected anterior ring were infected after internal fixation of anterior ring, and 9 patients were infected with infected anterior ring due to incomplete early debridement, which was classified as infected according to the injury severity score(ISS) for 24 to 38 scores. The anterior ring was internally fixed by extended debridement, irrigation, and antibiotic bone cement covered reconstruction plate, and the posterior ring fractures were all closed reduction and internally fixed with sacroiliac screws. RESULTS: All 11 cases obtained follow-up from 13 to 20 months. Among them, 2 patients had recurrence of postoperative infection, 1 case was re-dissected and replaced with antibiotic bone cement-coated internal fixation, and 1 case had a milder infection without accumulation of the medullary cavity, and the infection was controlled by retaining the plate and replacing the antibiotic bone cement only after dissecting. Two cases developed incisional oozing, which healed after removal of the internal fixation three months postoperatively. All patients did not show pelvic fracture redisplacement or reinfection during the follow-up period. All 11 cases eventually healed bony. At the final follow-up, according to the Matta score, the fracture reduction was excellent in 6 cases, good in 4, and possible in 1. According to the Majeed functional score, it was excellent in 6, good in 3, and possible in 2. CONCLUSION: Antibiotic bone cement covered reconstruction plate is effective in the treatment of infected anterior pelvic ring fracture, with high intraoperative safety and low recurrence rate of infection, which is conducive to the early postoperative rehabilitation and significantly shortens the course of the disease.

The effects of Tip-Edge plus appliance in the treatment of Angle II(1) malocclusion and the mechanism were investigated. Fifty-two Angle II(1) children, aged from 12.3-14.2 years, with mandibular retrusion in permanent dentition were selected and treated with Tip-Edge plus appliance. Lateral cephalometric films taken before and after treatment were analyzed. The arithmetic mean and standard deviation were calculated for each variable. Paired t-test was performed to evaluate the significant treatment change. Results showed that the average treatment time was 16 months. Normal overjet and overbite were established with retroclination of upper incisors and proclination of lower incisors. U1-NA was decreased by 15.4° (P<0.01). ANB and Y axial angle were decreased significantly (P<0.05). Soft tissue measurements showed that FCA and UL-E were decreased dramatically (P<0.05), and LL-E was increased significantly (P<0.05). Remarkable soft tissue change was noted after the treatment and convex facial profile changed to the straight profile. In conclusion, Tip-Edge plus technique can quickly and efficiently correct anterior bite and lateral outlook.

HP501 is a highly selective renal urate transporter 1 (URAT1) inhibitor used for treating hyperuricemia. This study aimed to evaluate the tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics of HP501 in male Chinese patients. Patients with hyperuricemia were sequentially assigned to receive oral doses of HP501 (30, 50, 60, 90, and 120 mg) as a single dose on Day 1 and as once-daily doses from Days 4 to 13. Safety, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic data were collected. Multiple oral doses of HP501 were well-tolerated in all the cohorts. The most common adverse events (≥ 10% of patients) of any grade regardless of drug relationship were gout flare (14 patients, 25.93%), diarrhea (12 patients, 22.22%), elevated ALT (8 patients, 14.81%), hypertriglyceridemia (7 patients, 12.96%), dry mouth (7 patients, 12.96%) and oral ulcer (7 patients, 12.96%). All adverse events were mild or moderate. The Cmax and exposure (AUC) of HP501 was approximately dose-proportional between 30 and 120 mg. A dose-dependent serum uric acid (UA)-lowering effect was observed in the dose range of 30 to 60 mg and the serum UA lowering effect was similar between 90 and 120 mg on day 13, indicating that the maximal serum UA lowering effect of HP501 was achieved at 90 mg in the patients with hyperuricemia. In conclusion, the tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacodynamics supported 90 mg HP501 for subsequent clinical studies of this highly selective URAT1 inhibitor.Clinical Trial registration: No. CTR20212259 ( http://www.chinadrugtrials.org.cn/ ) was registered in September 2021, and No. CTR20222257 was registered in September 2022.

The performance of combined Fenton oxidation and membrane bioreactor (MBR) process for the advanced treatment of an effluent from an integrated dyeing wastewater treatment plant was evaluated. The experimental results revealed that under the optimum Fenton oxidation conditions (initial pH 5, H2O2 dosage 17 mmol/L, and Fe2+ 1.7 mmol/L) the average total organic carbon (TOC) and color removal ratios were 39.3% and 69.5% after 35 min of reaction, respectively. Results from Zahn-Wallens Test also represented that Fenton process was effective to enhance the biodegradability of the test wastewater. As for the further purification of MBR process, TOC removal capacity was examined at different hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 10, 18 and 25 hr. Under the optimum HRT of 18 hr, the average TOC concentration and color of the final MBR effluent were 16.8 mg/L and 2 dilution time, respectively. The sludge yield coefficient was 0.13 g MLSS/g TOC and TOC degradation rate was 0.078 kg TOC/(m3 x day). The final effluent of MBR can meet the reuse criteria of urban recycling water - water quality standard for miscellaneous water consumption GBT18920-2002.
