RESUMO

Compared to nanozymes with single enzyme activity, those with multiple enzyme activities possess broader application potential due to their diversified enzymatic functionalities. However, the multienzyme nanozymes currently face challenges of interference among different enzymatic activities during practical applications. In this study, we report the synthesis of a light-responsive YbGd-carbon quantum dots nano-hybrid, termed YbGd-CDs, which exhibits controllable enzyme-mimicking activities. This light-responsive behavior enables selective control of the enzymatic activities. Under visible light irradiation, YbGd-CDs demonstrate robust oxidase-like activity. Conversely, under dark conditions, they primarily exhibit peroxidase-like activity. Leveraging the dual-enzyme-mimicking capabilities of YbGd-CDs, we developed colorimetric assays for sensitive detection of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in both normal and cancer cells as well as d-amino acids in human saliva. This study not only advances the synthesis of carbon-based nanozymes but also highlights their potential in biosensing applications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Drug coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty can provide sustained anti-restenotic efficacy without the limitations of permanent vascular implantation and is presumably ideal for treating intracranial atherosclerotic disease. However, the safety of paclitaxel in the neurovasculature remains a concern. METHODS: 242 patients with angiographically verified symptomatic stenosis >70% in intracranial arteries treated with DCB angioplasty were reviewed divided into two groups: group A, patients with stenotic intracranial arteries; and group B, patients with acute, subacute, or chronic occluded intracranial arteries. The primary endpoint was any stroke or death within 30 days. The secondary endpoint was arterial restenosis of >50% during follow-up. RESULTS: 16 major and 12 minor complications occurred among 245 procedures (6.5% and 4.9%, respectively). Five patients died within 30 days after the procedure (2.1%, 5/242). 12 major and 12 minor complications occurred among 211 procedures in group A (5.7% and 5.7%). In group B, four major complications occurred among 34 procedures (11.8%). Hyperperfusion and perforator stroke accounted for half of all complications (53.6%, 15/28). Restenosis >50% was present in eight lesions during the follow-up period (4.8%, 8/167). CONCLUSIONS: After treatment with DCB angioplasty, complications were no different from those after standard balloon angioplasty or stenting. This study suggests that DCB angioplasty may be a safe and effective procedure for intracranial arterial stenosis.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although percutaneous transluminal angioplasty and stenting (PTAS) was an effective and safe alternative treatment for severe intracranial atherosclerosis disease (ICAD), the high rate of restenosis remained a major issue for this endovascular procedure. Recently, the application of drug-coated balloons (DCB) in ICAD was developed to reduce restenosis. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of DCB angioplasty for ICAD. METHODS: We searched relevant databases for eligible studies enrolling ICAD patients treated with DCB. The event rates of restenosis and periprocedural complications in the follow-up period were pooled with random-/fixed-effect models using Freeman-Tukey double arcsine transformation. Heterogeneity tests and publication bias tests were performed. RESULTS: Two hundred and twenty-four ICAD patients treated with DCB from 9 eligible studies were included. Rate of stenosis in the DCB arm before treatment was ranged from 62% to 90% and reported median follow-up was ranged from 3 to 10.7 months. The pooled incidence of restenosis were 5.7% (95% confidence interval [CI] 2.6%-9.7%; I2 = 0%, p = 0.516) and 5.9% for periprocedural complications (95% CI: 2.5-10.3%; I2 = 0%, p = 0.649) in follow-up term. CONCLUSION: With the limitation of the low quality of the available evidence, angioplasty with DCB appears to be effective and safe in severe ICAD. Further larger randomized trials are needed to provide more definitive evidence and to address the ideal clinical context for their application.

RESUMO

Corn protein has been identified as an important source of bioactive peptides. Such peptides can be released during hydrolysis induced by proteolytic enzymes or microbial fermentation. Corn peptides have been found to exhibit different functions in vitro and in vivo such as antihypertensive, hepatoprotective, anti-obesity, antimicrobial, antioxidative, mineral-binding and accelerating alcohol metabolism. To date, 22 sequences of bioactive corn peptides have already been identified. There is an increasing commercial interest in the production of corn peptides with the purpose of using them as active ingredients, which may find use in the treatment of liver injury, hypertension, dental carries, oxidative stress, mineral malabsorption and obesity. These bioactive peptides may be used in formulation of functional foods, nutraceuticals, and natural drugs because of their health benefit effects.

RESUMO

The polylactic acid (PLA) nanospheres containing griseofulvin were prepared by a water-in-oil solvent evaporation method adopting an uniformly designed experiment, and the drug-releasing rates were compared between the microsphere and nanosphere. The results showed that the nanospheres was good in spherical shape with narrow distribution of the particle sizes. The particle diameter was about 114 nm, and the comprehensive score of the nanosphere was 95.59, with the error of 3.66% and the drug content of 13.55% by the linearity regression averaged from the results of the three repeat experiments. The drug-releasing rate of the microsphere was relatively slow, while that of the nanosphere can have an abrupt increase, indicating its function of solubilizing the drug.

RESUMO

Humane enterovirus 71 (HEV 71) is a common contagious agent of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) which is normally mild but can caused deaths and severe neurological complications. In April 2011, an unpredicted HFMD outbreak in Xiangyang City of Hubei Province in China resulted in a high aggregation of HFMD cases including fatal cases and many severe cases. In this study, 71 clinical specimens were collected according to the different symptoms and RNA extraction and RT-PCR amplification were performed immediately. Laboratory testing and genetic analyses were used to identify the casual pathogen of this outbreak. HEV71 was confirmed as the etiological pathogen of the outbreak. Similarity and phylogenetic analyses of the VP1 gene of HEV71 from Xiangyang showed that they belong to C4a cluster of the C4 subgenotype. Intertypic recombinant events were found in the 3D region between the Xiangyang HEV71 strains and Coxsackievirus A16 (CV-A16). Intratypic recombination was found in the 3D region between two same subgenotypic Xiangyang HEV71 strains in this outbreak. It is suggested that these recombination events played important roles in the emergence of the various HEV 71 subgenotypes and different type of recombination of HEV71 might exist in one outbreak which might be the reason for the different virulent HEV71 strains in an outbreak.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is to improve the anticorrosive property of the dental FeCrMo soft magnetic alloy covered with TiN film obtained by ion beam assisted deposition (IBAD) technology in oral environment. METHODS: The magnetic force of the FECrMo soft magnetic alloy after TiN film treated were measured by Instron test machine. An advanced electro-chemical method was used to measure the electric potential of corrosion (Ecorr), passive potential (Ep), passive current density (Ip), current density of corrosion (Icorr), polarization resistance (Rp), of FeCrMo soft magnetic alloy in simulated oral environment before and after surface modification. RESULTS: There were no statistic changes of the magnetic force in 4 groups after alloy with TiN film treated. Comparing with the alloy without surface modified, the Ecorr, Rp of FeCrMo soft magnetic alloy was obviously higher, and the Icorr, Ip and Ep were obviously lower. CONCLUSIONS: The anticorrosive property of the dental FeCrMo soft magnetic alloy with TiN film is better than that without modified.
